An asymmetrical full bridge converter is proposed in the paper. The proposed converter
achieves zero voltage switching of all the power switches. Zero current switching of all the output diodes
are also achieved here. This in turn provides a highly efficienct operation. The proposed converter can
provide a high voltage gain and the voltages across the semi- conductor devices are effectively clamped.
The converter can be utilised effectively in high voltage applications as embedded systems, renewable
energy systems, fuel cells, mobility applications and uninterrupted power supply
This paper proposes a non-isolated soft-switching bidirectional dc/dc converter for interfacing energy storage in DC microgrid. The proposed converter employs a half-bridge boost converter at input port followed by a LCC resonant tank to assist in soft-switching of switches and diodes, and finally a voltage doubler circuit at the output port to enhance the voltage gain by two times. The LCC resonant circuit also adds a suitable voltage gain to the converter. Therefore, overall high voltage gain of the converter is obtained without a transformer or large number of multiplier circuit. For operation in buck mode, the high side voltage is divided by half with capacitive divider to gain higher step-down ratio. The converter is operated at high frequency to obtain low output voltage ripple, reduced magnetics and filters. Zero voltage turn-on is achieved for all switches and zero current turn-on and turn-off is achieved for all diodes in both modes i.e., buck/boost operation. Voltage stress across switches and diode is clamped naturally without external snubber circuit. An experimental prototype has been designed, built and tested in the laboratory to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

Fuzzy based control of Transformer less Coupled inductor based DC-DC converterIJERA Editor
Most of the industrial applications use any one of the basic DC-DC converter configurations namely buck,
boost, buck–boost, and Cuk converters. These converters are non-isolating converters. Buck-boost converters
use inductors for storing energy from the source and release the same to load or output. This results in high
stress across magnetic components. This drawback restricts usage of buck-boost converters to low power
applications. Flyback converters popularly have known as buck-boost converters uses transformers for
achieving wide range of step down and step up voltages. Coupled inductor based converters or tapped inductor
based converters are used for achieving wide input – wide output conversion ratios. Coherent transition between
step-down and step-up modes is achieved by a proper control scheme. This paper proposes fuzzy logic based
closed loop control scheme for control of converter switches. Theoretical derivations of control parameters with
their membership values, mamdani based rules for development of fuzzy rules and simulation results of a
coupled inductor based DC-DC converter using MATLAB / SIMULINK are concluded.

In this concept novel high step-up dc–dc converter with an active coupled-inductor network is presented for
a sustainable energy system. The proposed converter contains two coupled inductors which can be
integrated into one magnetic core and two switches. The primary sides of coupled inductors are charged in
parallel by the input source, and both the coupled inductors are discharged in series with the input source to
achieve the high step-up voltage gain with appropriate duty ratio, respectively. In addition, the passive
lossless clamped circuit not only recycles leakage energies of the coupled inductor to improve efficiency but
also alleviates large voltage spike to limit the voltage stresses of the main switches. The reverse-recovery
problem of the output diode is also alleviated by the leakage inductor and the lower part count is needed;
therefore, the power conversion efficiency can be further upgraded. The voltage conversion ratios, the effect of
the leakage inductance and the parasitic parameters on the voltage gain are discussed. The voltage stress
and current stress on the power devices are illustrated and the comparisons between the proposed converter
and other converters are given. The simulation results are presented by using Mat lab/Simulink software.

Design of Half Bridge LLC Resonant Converter for Low Voltage Dc ApplicationsIOSRJEEE
An advanced hybrid LLC series resonant converter with united flying-capacitor cell is proposed in this paper to permit the high step-down conversion in the high input voltage applications. The in-built flyingcapacitor branch in the primary side can efficiently share out the primary switch voltage stress related with the half-bridge LLC converters. And the input voltage can be shared correspondingly and automatically between the two series half-bridge components lacking additional balance circuit or control strategies owing to the built-in flying- capacitor cell. Likewise, the inherent soft switching performance in extensive load range that exists in the LLC converters is still kept to decrease the switching losses, which ensures the high efficiency. In addition, the proposed converter can be comprehensive to reduce the switch voltage stress byemploying stacked connection. Finally, a 500∼640 Vinput 48 Voutput 1 kW prototype is built and tested to verify the efficiency of the proposed converter. The results prove that the proposed converter is an excellent candidate for the high input voltage and high step-down dc/dc conversion systems.
As a consequence of sensitive, diverse and complex loads in today's distribution networks, improving power quality in distribution systems has attracted great attention. Power quality issues involve voltage sags, transient interrupts and other distortions in sinusoidal waveforms. Enormous methods have been proposed for power quality modification. One of the methods by which power quality problems might be addressed is to apply power electronic devices in the form of custom power devices. One of such devices is Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) which is connected in series to distribution networks. At the same time, through injection of voltage to the network it is able to control voltage amplitude and phase. It is adopted lend to compensate for voltage sags through injecting series and synchronous three phase voltage. Consisted of three single phase inverters and a DC bus, it can protect susceptible loads against various types of voltage sags as well as other disturbances in the power supply. Moreover, it is capable of generating and absorbing active and reactive power. Therefore, in this paper, different structures of DVR have been investigated and eventually proposed a new structure for DVR based on Γ-Source asymmetric inverter. Voltage Control of Dual Active Bridge Converter for CO-Amorphous Core Materia...kuldeep12555
Solid-State Transformer (SST) provides versatile power system operation. In the smart world, there are technologies where everything is incorporated that reduce the size and eventually save time in delivering a fast process. It has been seen that solid-state transformer voltage begins to decrease during operation that needs to be regulated through some control strategy. In this paper, a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter has been used to control the voltage of SST that employs the Single-Phase Shift (SPS) technique. For further efficiency improvement Co73(Si, B)27 co-amorphous material has been used for the core of SST because co-amorphous alloy has much lower loss compared with Fe-amorphous cores and have limited saturation flux density. Real-time parameters of core have been used in the analysis. It has been evident from the results that DAB dc-dc converter-based SST with SPS control technique is simple and offers better performance compared to stand-alone SST. It improves the overall performance and efficiency of the system. This paper has been accomplished in Matlab® / Simulink environment.

Analysis and Design of Solar Photo voltaic Grid Connected Inverterijeei-iaes
This paper presents common mode voltage analysis of single phase grid connected photovoltaic inverter. Many researchers proposed different grid tie inverters for applications like domestic powering, street lighting, water pumping, cooling and heating applications, however traditional grid tie PV inverter uses either a line frequency or a high frequency transformer between the inverter and grid but losses will increase in the network leading to reduced efficiency of the system. In order to increase the efficiency, with reduced size and cost of the system, the effective solution is to remove the isolation transformer. But common mode (CM) ground leakage current due to parasitic capacitance between the PV panels and the ground making the system unreliable. The common mode current reduces the efficiency of power conversion stage, affects the quality of grid current, deteriorate the electric magnetic compatibility and give rise to the safety threats. In order to eliminate the common mode leakage current in Transformerless PV systm two control algorithms of multi-carrier pwm are implemented and compared for performance analysis. The shoot-through issue that is encountered by traditional voltage source inverter is analyzed for enhanced system reliability. These control algorithms are compared for common mode voltage and THD comparisons. The proposed system is designed using MATLAB/SIMULINK software for analysis.
High gain dc-dc step up converters have been used in renewable energy systems, for example, photovoltaic grid connected system and fuel cell power plant to step up the low level dc voltage to a high level dc bus voltage. If the conventional boost converter is to meet this demand, it should be operated at an extreme duty cycle (duty cycle closes to unity), which will cause electromagnetic interference, reverse recovery problem and conduction loss at the power switches. This paper proposes a class of non-isolated dc-dc step up converters which provide very high voltage gain at a small duty cycle (duty cycle < 0.5). Firstly, the converter topologies are derived based on active switched inductor network and combination of active and passive switched inductor networks; secondly, the modes of operation of proposed active switched inductor converter and combined active and passive switched inductor converter are illustrated; thirdly, the performance of the proposed converters are analyzed mathematically in details and compared with conventional boost converter. Finally, the analysis is verified by simulation results.

ANN Based Prediction Model as a Condition Monitoring Tool for Machine ToolsIJMER
In today’s world of manufacturing, a machine tool has an important role to produce best
quality and quantity in phase with the demand. Machine tool in good working condition enhances the
productivity and provides an opportunity for the overall development of the industry. Several
parameters such as vibration of a machine tool structure, temperature at cutting zones, machined
surface roughness, noise levels in the moving parts etc. provide the information of its working
condition which is related to its productivity. Surface roughness of the machined part is one of the
parameters to indicate machine tool condition. In the recent trends, soft computing tools have
emerged as an aid for the condition monitoring of machine tools. In the present work, experiments
have been conducted based on Taguchi technique for turning operation with different process input
parameters using carbide cutting tool insert and the surface roughness of the turned parts were
measured as output characteristic. Relation between input and output was established and a
prediction model for surface roughness was built by using artificial neural network (ANN)
backpropagation learning algorithm. The predicted values of surface roughness from the prediction
model in comparison with the experimental values are found to be in close agreement. This establishes
the use of ANN in developing prediction models for better monitoring of the condition of a machine
tool for enhancing the productivity

Tracking and attacking enemies at distant places is very much difficult for the soldiers. There
may be a chance of loss of lives of the soldier during war and emergency situations. So the idea is to
replace a real soldier with robot soldier completely controlled with a wireless network. The objective of
this paper is to minimize human fatalities in terrorist attack. For this we design a robot that can monitor
enemy remotely when required. It can silently enter into enemy area and send us all the information
through its tiny camera, that can be mounted on top of it. For this purpose Renesas microcontroller was
used to perform the control actions as per requirement.

Range query in P2P system is mainly made by establishing index, such as B+ tree or DST. However when the number of nodes in the system and the amount of data in a single node increases significantly, the above traditional index will become extremely large so it will affect the query efficiency. In the present, enterprises require effective data analysis when making some important decisions, such as user's consumption habits deriving from analyzing user data. This paper aims at optimization of range query in big data. This algorithm introduces MapReduce in P2P system and organizes files by P-Ring in different nodes. In the recent years, large scale information transfer by remote computing and the development
of massive storage and retrieval systems have witnessed a tremendous growth. To cope up with the
growth in the size of databases, additional storage devices need to be installed and the modems and
multiplexers have to be continuously upgraded in order to permit large amounts of data transfer between
computers and remote terminals. This leads to an increase in the cost as well as equipment. One solution
to these problems is “COMPRESSION” where the database and the transmission sequence can be
encoded efficiently. In this we investigated for optimum wavelet, optimum level, and optimum scaling
factor.

A DC-DC Converter with Ripple Current Cancellation Based On Duty Cycle SelectionIJMER
In this paper a boost dc-dc converter is proposed based on the concept of ripple current cancellation. This proposed system has the novel capability of cancelling the input current ripple at an arbitrarily preselected duty cycle. This is accomplished without increasing the count of the number of components in contrast to other solutions available in the conventional system. In addition to this, the converter also features a high voltage gain without utilizing extreme values of duty cycle or boosting transformers. These features make the converter ideal to process electric power coming from low-voltage power-generating sources, such as renewables. This system also provides details on the principle of operation via topological considerations and a mathematical model. The key factor of reactive component sizing is also discussed in detail. The proposed boost dc-dc converter is evaluated by simulating in MATLAB/Simulink software.

Transformerless Buck-Boost Converter With Positive Output Voltage and Nominal...paperpublications3
Abstract: This article deals with a transformerless buck-boost converter with simple structure. By inserting an additional switched network into the traditional buck-boost converter new converter is obtained. Compared with the traditional buck-boost converter, its voltage gain is quadratic of the traditional buck-boost converter. It can operate in a wide range of output voltage, that is, the proposed buck-boost converter can achieve high or low voltage gain without extreme duty cycle. Moreover, the output voltage of this transformerless buck-boost converter is common-ground with the input voltage, and its polarity is positive. The two power switches of the proposed buck-boost converter operate synchronously. The operating principles and the steady-state analyses for the buck-boost converter operating in CCM are presented. The PSIM simulations are provided to compare and validate the effectiveness of the buck-boost converter.

Average current control of DC-DC Cuk Converters as Power Factor CorrectorIJERA Editor
The era of electronic devices in all loads due to the manufacturing technologies replaced many conventional electrical or mechanical loads including lighting loads where Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) is becoming an emerging technique with many advantages. High frequency switching dc-dc converter is a new technology to control the load and the supply side simultaneously. Due to additional harmonics generated by these switching converters power factor correction has become a necessity in utility side. This paper focuses on the power factor correction of the supply side when employing an ideal LED load with dc-dc Cuk converter. This paper also illustrates the controlling of the power factor correction employing high switching frequency dc-dc converters. The control loops employed are discussed and the strategy for designing the compensator is also explained. The simulated results have been shown to ascertain the accepted performance of the power factor correction converter.
Analysis of Fuel Cell Based Multilevel DC-DC Boost Converter for Induction MotorIJMTST Journal
In this paper new topologies and interleaving modulation concepts for multilevel DC-DC boost converter
enabling a significantly less loss and a reduced chip size of the power semiconductors are proposed. The
distributed generation (DG) systems based on the renewable energy sources have rapidly developed in
recent years. These DG systems are powered by micro sources such as fuel cells, photovoltaic (PV) systems,
and batteries. Fuel cells are considered to be one of the most promising sources of distributed energy because
of their high efficiency, low environmental impact and scalability. Non-isolated high step-up DC-DC
converters are required in the industrial applications. Many of these conventional DC–DC converters have the
disadvantages of operating at high duty-cycle, high switch voltage stress and high diode peak current. A
three-level step up converter is implemented to boost the fuel cell stack voltage of 96V to 340V. The proposed
converter consists a system of fuel cell based Multilevel DC-DC converter with PI controller is modeled and

This paper presents the simulation design of dc/dc interleaved boost converter with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). By employin the interleaved structure, the input current stresses to switching devices were reduced and this signified to a switching conduction loss reduction. All the parameters had been calculated theoretically. The proposed converter circuit was simulated by using MATLAB/Simulink and PSpice software programmes. The converter circuit model, with specifications of output power of 200 W, input voltage range from 10~60 V, and operates at 100 kHz switching frequency was simulated to validate the designed parameters. The results showed that the main switches of the model converter circuit achieved ZVS conditions during the interleaving operation. Consequently, the switching losses in the main switching devices were reduced. Thus, the proposed converter circuit model offers advantages of input current stress and switching loss reductions. Hence, based on the designed parameters and results, the converter model can be extended for hardware implementation.
Design of an Integrated Power Factor Converter with PI Controller for Low Pow...IOSRJEEE
In this paper, an integrated power factor converter with PI controller is proposed. The circuit topology is obtained by integrating two converters namely the buck converter and a boost converter. The boost converter is normally a step up converter which obtain an unity power factor and performs low harmonics at the input. Based on the simple circuit topology and easy control the boost converter or buck-boost converter is used as power factor correctors. Similarly the buck converter regulates the dc-link voltage and provide a stable dc output voltage. To achieve unity power factor, the output voltage of both converter should be higher than the amplitude of the ac line voltage. The steady -state analysis is developed and a design is provided

Geochemistry and Genesis of Kammatturu Iron Ores of Devagiri Formation, Sandu...IJMER
The Greenstone belts of Karnataka are enriched in BIFs in Dharwar craton, where Iron
formations are confined to the basin shelf, clearly separated from the deeper-water iron formation that
accumulated at the basin margin and flanking the marine basin. Geochemical data procured in terms of
major, trace and REE are plotted in various diagrams to interpret the genesis of BIFs. Al2O3, Fe2O3 (T),
TiO2, CaO, and SiO2 abundances and ratios show a wide variation. Ni, Co, Zr, Sc, V, Rb, Sr, U, Th,
ΣREE, La, Ce and Eu anomalies and their binary relationships indicate that wherever the terrigenous
component has increased, the concentration of elements of felsic such as Zr and Hf has gone up. Elevated
concentrations of Ni, Co and Sc are contributed by chlorite and other components characteristic of basic
volcanic debris. The data suggest that these formations were generated by chemical and clastic
sedimentary processes on a shallow shelf. During transgression, chemical precipitation took place at the
sediment-water interface, whereas at the time of regression. Iron ore formed with sedimentary structures
and textures in Kammatturu area, in a setting where the water column was oxygenated.

Non linear analysis of Robot Gun Support Structure using Equivalent Dynamic A...IJMER
Robot guns are being increasingly employed in automotive manufacturing to replace
risky jobs and also to increase productivity. Using a single robot for a single operation proves to be
expensive. Hence for cost optimization, multiple guns are mounted on a single robot and multiple
operations are performed. Robot Gun structure is an efficient way in which multiple welds can be done
simultaneously. However mounting several weld guns on a single structure induces a variety of
dynamic loads, especially during movement of the robot arm as it maneuvers to reach the weld
locations. The primary idea employed in this paper, is to model those dynamic loads as equivalent G
force loads in FEA. This approach will be on the conservative side, and will be saving time and
subsequently cost efficient. The approach of the paper is towards creating a standard operating
procedure when it comes to analysis of such structures, with emphasis on deploying various technical
aspects of FEA such as Non Linear Geometry, Multipoint Constraint Contact Algorithm, Multizone
meshing .

Intrusion Detection and Forensics based on decision tree and Association rule...IJMER
This paper present an approach based on the combination of, two techniques using
decision tree and Association rule mining for Probe attack detection. This approach proves to be
better than the traditional approach of generating rules for fuzzy expert system by clustering methods.
Association rule mining for selecting the best attributes together and decision tree for identifying the
best parameters together to create the rules for fuzzy expert system. After that rules for fuzzy expert
system are generated using association rule mining and decision trees. Decision trees is generated for
dataset and to find the basic parameters for creating the membership functions of fuzzy inference
system. Membership functions are generated for the probe attack. Based on these rules we have
created the fuzzy inference system that is used as an input to neuro-fuzzy system. Fuzzy inference
system is loaded to neuro-fuzzy toolbox as an input and the final ANFIS structure is generated for
outcome of neuro-fuzzy approach. The experiments and evaluations of the proposed method were
done with NSL-KDD intrusion detection dataset. As the experimental results, the proposed approach
based on the combination of, two techniques using decision tree and Association rule mining
efficiently detected probe attacks. Experimental results shows better results for detecting intrusions as
compared to others existing methods
Natural Language Ambiguity and its Effect on Machine LearningIJMER
"Natural language processing" here refers to the use and ability of systems to process
sentences in a natural language such as English, rather than in a specialized artificial computer
language such as C++. The systems of real interest here are digital computers of the type we think of as
personal computers and mainframes. Of course humans can process natural languages, but for us the
question is whether digital computers can or ever will process natural languages. We have tried to
explore in depth and break down the types of ambiguities persistent throughout the natural languages
and provide an answer to the question “How it affects the machine translation process and thereby
machine learning as whole?” .
Today in era of software industry there is no perfect software framework available for
analysis and software development. Currently there are enormous number of software development
process exists which can be implemented to stabilize the process of developing a software system. But no
perfect system is recognized till yet which can help software developers for opting of best software
development process. This paper present the framework of skillful system combined with Likert scale. With
the help of Likert scale we define a rule based model and delegate some mass score to every process and
develop one tool name as MuxSet which will help the software developers to select an appropriate
development process that may enhance the probability of system success.
Material Parameter and Effect of Thermal Load on Functionally Graded CylindersIJMER
The present study investigates the creep in a thick-walled composite cylinders made
up of aluminum/aluminum alloy matrix and reinforced with silicon carbide particles. The distribution
of SiCp is assumed to be either uniform or decreasing linearly from the inner to the outer radius of
the cylinder. The creep behavior of the cylinder has been described by threshold stress based creep
law with a stress exponent of 5. The composite cylinders are subjected to internal pressure which is
applied gradually and steady state condition of stress is assumed. The creep parameters required to
be used in creep law, are extracted by conducting regression analysis on the available experimental
results. The mathematical models have been developed to describe steady state creep in the composite
cylinder by using von-Mises criterion. Regression analysis is used to obtain the creep parameters
required in the study. The basic equilibrium equation of the cylinder and other constitutive equations
have been solved to obtain creep stresses in the cylinder. The effect of varying particle size, particle
content and temperature on the stresses in the composite cylinder has been analyzed. The study
revealed that the stress distributions in the cylinder do not vary significantly for various combinations
of particle size, particle content and operating temperature except for slight variation observed for
varying particle content. Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) emerged and led to the development
of superior heat resistant materials.

Application of Parabolic Trough Collectorfor Reduction of Pressure Drop in Oi...IJMER
Pipelines are the least expensive and most effective method for the oil transportation.
Due to high viscosity of crude oil, the pressure drop and pumping power requirements are very high.
So it is necessary to bring down the viscosity of crude oil. Heated pipelines are used reduce the oil
viscosity by increasing the oil temperature. Electrical heating and direct flame heating are the common
method used for heating the oil pipeline. In this work, a new application of Parabolic Trough Collector
in the field of oil pipeline transport is introduced for reducing pressure drop in oil pipelines. Oil
pipeline is heated by applying concentrated solar radiation on the pipe surface using a Parabolic
Trough Collector in which the oil pipeline acts as the absorber pipe. 3-D steady state analysis is
carried out on a heated oil pipeline using commercial CFD software package ANSYS Fluent 14.5. In
this work an effort is made to investigate the effect of concentrated solar radiation for reducing
pressure drop in the oil pipeline. The results from the numerical analysis shows that the pressure drop
in oil pipeline is get reduced by heating the pipe line using concentrated solar radiation. From this
work, the application of PTC in oil pipeline transportation is justified.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

An Asymmetrical Dc-Dc Converter with a High Voltage Gain Sarah Ben Abraham1, Ms. Riya Scaria2, 1, 2 Assistant Professor
I. Introduction
The recent growth of battery powered applications and low voltage storage elements are increasing the demand of efficient step-up dc–dc converters. Typical applications are embedded systems, renewable energy systems, fuel cells, mobility applications and uninterrupted power supply. These applications demand high step- up static gain, high efficiency and reduced weight, volume and cost. Some classical converters with magnetic coupling as flyback or current-fed push-pull converter can easily achieve high step-up voltage gain. However, the power transformer volume is a problem for the development of a compact converter. The energy of the transformer leakage inductance can produce high voltage stress, increases the switching losses and the electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems, reducing the converter be used to reduce the switching losses and the EMI generation. However the voltage stress is higher than in the hard-switching structures and the cost and circuit complexity are increased. Thus, the weight, volume and losses of the power transformer are limiting factors for the isolated dc–dc converters used in embedded applications. Non-isolated dc–dc converters as the classical boost, can provide high step-up voltage gain, but with the penalty of high voltage and current stress, high duty-cycle operation and limited dynamic response. The diode reverse recovery current can reduce the efficiency when operating with high current and voltage levels. There are some non-isolated dc–dc converters operating with high static gain, as the quadratic boost converter, but additional inductors and filter capacitors must be used and the switch voltage is high. In order to overcome these problems, an asymmetrical full bridge converter with high-voltage gain is proposed. The limitation of the maximum duty cycle disappears in the proposed topology. The proposed converter features high-voltage gain, fixed switching frequency, soft-switching operations of all power switches and output diodes, and clamped voltages across power switches and output diodes. The reverse recovery problem of the output diodes is significantly alleviated due to an additional inductor at the secondary side. Therefore, the proposed converter shows high efficiency and it is suitable for high-voltage applications.
II. Literature Review
The conventional boost converters are widely employed in power factor correction (PFC) applications due to the simple circuit structure. The conventional single-phase single-switch boost converter is shown in Figure 2.1. In theory, the voltage gain of the boost converter can be infinite when the duty cycle is close to one. However, the switch turn-off period becomes short when the duty cycle increases. The current ripples of the power devices are large, with high-step-up conversion [5], which increases the power device conduction losses and turn-off current. Moreover, the voltage stresses of the switch and the diode are equal to the output voltage, which is large in high output- voltage applications. The cost of the switches with high voltage stress is rather higher than that of the switches with low voltage stress. The switching and reverse-recovery losses are significant due to the hard-switching operation. Furthermore, the power level is limited by the single-phase single-switch solution.
Abstract: An asymmetrical full bridge converter is proposed in the paper. The proposed converter achieves zero voltage switching of all the power switches. Zero current switching of all the output diodes are also achieved here. This in turn provides a highly efficienct operation. The proposed converter can provide a high voltage gain and the voltages across the semi- conductor devices are effectively clamped. The converter can be utilised effectively in high voltage applications as embedded systems, renewable energy systems, fuel cells, mobility applications and uninterrupted power supply.

Figure 2.1: Conventional boost converter
The interleaved structure is another effective solution to increase the power level, which can minimize
the current ripple, can reduce the passive component size, can improve the transient response, and can realize
the thermal distribution. Figure 2.2 shows a two-phase conventional interleaved boost converter. However, the
power devices still operate at hard switching [10]. The efficiency is limited because the output diode reverse-recovery
problem is still serious in high-output voltage applications.
An active zero current transition (ZCT) interleaved boost converter is derived from the conventional
interleaved boost converter by adding a set of auxiliary commutation circuit to each phase [13], which is formed
by an active switch, a capacitor, and an inductor. The interleaved boost converter with auxiliary commutation
circuits is introduced in Figure 2.3. Turning on of the main switches occurs naturally at zero current, and the
output-diode reverse-recovery problem is alleviated due to the critical discontinued current mode (DCM)
operation. The auxiliary commutation circuits provide ZCT when the main switch turns off. However, a
variable frequency control is mandatory for this converter, which is difficult for the electromagnetic interference
(EMI) filter design.
Figure 2.2: Active ZCT interleaved boost converter
The filter inductors of the conventional interleaved boost converter can be integrated into one coupled
inductor to reduce the magnetic components. The output-diode reverse recovery problem can be alleviated, and
zero current switching (ZCS) turn-on of the switches can be achieved due to the leakage inductance of the
coupled inductor.

each phase of the interleaved boost converter with coupled inductor. ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off are achieved
for the main switches. The ZVS soft-switching performance is realized for the auxiliary switches during the

whole switching transition. The leakage inductance of the coupled inductor is used to control the output diode
turn-off current falling rate, which alleviates the diode reverse-recovery problem. The converter is symmetrical
and suitable for high-power and high-efficiency dc/dc applications.
Figure 2.4: Active ZVZCS interleaved boost converter with a coupled inductor
A lot of other active or passive lossless soft-switching solutions are proposed to reduce the switching
and reverse-recovery losses that exist in the conventional boost converters. However, most of the improvements
are presented for PFC applications. They are not suitable for high-step-up and high efficiency PV grid-connected
applications.
The current-fed converters are often used in high step-up applications due to their inherent low input
current ripple characteristic and high-voltage gain [11], [12]. However, in the current fed converters, the voltage
stresses of the switches are serious. In order to clamp the voltages across the switches and provide zero-voltage
switching (ZVS) features, active snubbers are often employed. The snubbers require additional switches and
cause additional conduction losses. As a result, the system efficiency decreases. On the other hand, the voltage-fed
converters such as phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converters, which are widely used, show low-voltage
stress of the switching devices. PSFB converters feature fixed switching frequency and ZVS of power switches.
However, they have some drawbacks including large conduction loss due to circulating current, duty cycle loss,
and the voltage spikes across output rectifiers. The large voltage spikes of the output rectifiers are serious
problems especially in high-voltage applications. To remedy these problems, many topologies have been
proposed in [13]–[18]. In some of them, auxiliary snubber circuits are employed to suppress the voltage spikes
at the secondary side. However, the complexity and the overall cost are increased while the system efficiency
decreases due to the additional circuits.
The voltage gain can be extended, and the current ripple can be further reduced to satisfy the high-step-up
requirements by employing the cascade structure. Figure 2.6 shows a cascade boost converter. The voltage
stress of the first stage is low, and it can be operated with a high switching frequency to improve the power
density. The second stage can be worked with a low switching frequency to reduce the switching losses.
However, the cascade converter requires two sets of power devices, magnetic cores, and control circuits, which
is complex and expensive. The system stability of the cascade structure is another big issue, and the control
circuit should be designed carefully. The output-diode reverse-recovery problem of the second stage is severe
because a high voltage level should be sustained in the high-output-voltage applications.

The two switches in the cascade boost converter can be integrated into one switch to reduce circuit
complexity. The integrated cascade boost converter is shown in Figure 2.7. The inductors L1 and L2 operate in
the charging mode when switch S turns on. The energy stored in L1 is transferred to capacitor C1 through diode
D1, and the energy stored in L2 is delivered to the load through diode Do when switch S turns off. The circuit is
simplified, and the instability caused by the cascade structure is avoided, compared with the cascade boost
converter.
An integrated cascade boost converter with ZVS soft switching performance is shown in Figure 2.8.
The auxiliary circuit is composed of a small inductor Ls, a resonant capacitor Cc, and a power MOSFET Sc,
which is used to realize the soft switching for the main and clamp switches. However, the switch voltage stress
of the integrated cascade boost converters is equal to the high output voltage, and the current stress is large
because the current of the inductors L1and L2 flows through the switch when it turns on. These two factors
increase the conduction losses and reduce the circuit efficiency.

The proposed converter has four power switches S1 through S4. There is also the clamping capacitor
Cc between top side switches S1 and S3 of two switch bridges. The voltages across the switches S1 and S2 in
the first bridge are confined to the input voltage Vin. The clamping capacitor Cc can clamp the voltages across
the switches S3 and S4 in the second bridge. The output stage of the proposed converter has a voltage doubler
structure that consists of the secondary winding N2 of the transformer T, the serial inductor Ls, the output
capacitors Co1 and Co2 and the output diodes Do1 and Do2. According to the voltage doubler structure, the
voltage gain increases and the voltage stresses of the output diodes are confined to the output voltage Vo
without any auxiliary circuits.
The equivalent circuit of the proposed converter is shown in Fig. 2. The diodes D1 through D4 are the
intrinsic body diodes of all switches. The capacitors C1 through C4 represent their parasitic output capacitances.
The transformer T is modeled as the magnetizing inductance Lm and the ideal transformer that has a turn ratio
of 1:n (n = N2 /N1). Its leakage inductance is included in the serial inductor Ls. To simplify the analysis, it is
assumed that the clamping capacitor Cc has a large value and the voltage across Cc is constant as Vc under a
steady state. Similarly, the output capacitor voltages are assumed to be constant as Vo1 and Vo2, respectively.
Figure 3.2: Equivalent Circuit
The theoretical waveforms of the proposed converter are shown in Fig. 3. The switch S1 (S4) and the
switch S2 (S3) are operated asymmetrically and the duty cycle D is based on the switch S1 (S4 ). A small delay
between driving signals for S1 (S4) and S2 (S3) is a deadtime for the switches. It prevents cross conduction and
allows ZVS.

IV. Modal Analysis
The operation of the proposed converter during a switching period Ts is divided into four modes as
shown in Fig. 4. Before t0, the switches S2 and S3, and the output diode Do1 are conducting. At t0 , the
magnetizing current im and the secondary current is arrive at their minimum values Im2 and −ID o1, respectively.
Mode 1 [t0, t1]: At t0, the switches S2 and S3 are turned off. Then, the energy stored in the magnetic
components starts to charge/discharge the parasitic capacitances C1 through C4. Therefore, the voltages vS2 and
vS3 start to rise from zero. Similarly, the voltage vS4 starts to fall from Vin + Vc voltage vS1 starts to fall from
Vin. Since all the parasitic output capacitances C1 through C4 are very small, this transition time interval is very
short and it is ignored in Fig. 3. When the voltages vS1 and vS4 arrive at zero, their body diodes D1 and D4 are
turned on. Then, the gate signals are applied to the switches S1 and S4. Since the currents have already flown
through D1 and D4 and the voltages vS1 and vS4 are clamped as zero before the switches S1 and S4 are turned on,
zero-voltage turn-ON of S1 and S4 is achieved. With the turn-ON of S1 and S4, the primary voltage vp across Lm
is Vin. Then, the magnetizing current im increases linearly from its minimum value Im2 as follows:
im (t) = Im2 +
Vin
Lm
(t-t0)
Figure 4.1: Mode 1
Since the voltage VLs across Ls is nVin+Vo1, the secondary current is increases from its minimum value
−IDo1 as follows:
is (t) = -ID01 +
nVin +Vo1
Ls
(t-t0)
Mode 2 [t1, t2]: At t1, the currents is and iDo1 arrive at zero and the diode Do1 is turned off. Then, the output diode
Do2 is turned on and its current increases linearly. Since the current changing rate of Do1 is controlled by the
serial inductor Ls, its reverse-recovery problem is significantly alleviated. Since the voltage vLs is (nVin−Vo2) in
this mode, the current is are given by:
is(t) =
nVin −V02
Ls
(t-t1)
Figure 4.2: Mode 2
At the end of this mode, im and is arrive at their maximum values Im1 and ID02, respectively.
Mode 3 [t2, t3]: Similar to mode 1, the switches S1 and S4 are turned off at t2. The parasitic capacitors C1 and C4
start to be charged from zero, whereas the parasitic capacitors C2 and C3 start to be discharged from Vin and Vin
+ Vc, respectively. With the same assumption as mode 1, this transition time interval is very short and it is

ignored in Fig. 3. After the parasitic capacitors are fully charged and discharged, the voltages vS 2 and vS 3
become zero and the body diodes D2 and D3 are turned on. Then, the gate signals are applied to the switches S2
and S3. Since the currents have already flown through D2 and D3 and the voltages vS 2 and vS 3 are clamped as
zero, zero-voltage turn-on of S2 and S3 is achieved. With the turn-on of S2 and S3, the voltage vp across Lm is −
(Vin+Vc). Then, the current im decreases linearly from its maximum value Im1 as follows:
im (t) = Im1 –
Vin+Vc
Lm
(t-t2)
Figure 4.3: Mode 3
Since the voltage vLs across Ls is − (n (Vin + Vc) +Vo 2), the current is decreases from its maximum value IDo2 as
follows:
is (t) = ID02 –
n Vin+Vc + V02
Ls
(t-t2)
Mode 4 [t3, t4]: Similar to mode 2, the currents is and iDo2 arrive at zero and the diode Do2 is turned OFF at t3.
Then, the output diode Do1 is turned on and its current increases linearly. Since the current changing rate of Do2
is controlled by Ls, its reverse-recovery problem is significantly alleviated. Since the voltage vLs is − (n (Vin +
Vc) −Vo1), the current is is given by:
is(t) = –
n Vin+Vc − V01

(t-t3)
At the end of this mode, the currents im and is arrive at Im2 and −IDo1, respectively.

IV. Design Parameters
To validate the characteristic of the proposed converter, design procedure is given in this section with
the following specifications:

3) Maximum output power Po,max = 150W.
4) Switching frequency fs = 74 kHz.

4.1 Selection Dmax and n The voltage stresses of S3 and S4 depend on D. If they need to be kept below 150V, D should be smaller than 0.75. Therefore, the maximum duty cycle Dmax is determined as 0.7. Since the required voltage gain is 8.3, the turn ratio n can be calculated as 3 from from the following equation: M = V0Vin = n 1−2k D D+ 1−2D k (1−D− 1−2D k) 4.2 Selection of Ls Serial inductor Ls can be determined as follows: Ls = nDmaxVinTs8Iomax [1-(1-2k)]^2 By using previously selected k∗ and Dmax, (32) gives Ls = 87.5 μH. Then, Ls is selected as 90 μH. 4.3 Selection of Lm ID01 is calculated as 2.287 A from the following equation: Io = 1−D+d1−d2 IDo12 = D−d1+d2 IDo22 Where, d1 = kD d2 = k (1-D) By assuming the output capacitances C1 to C4 of the switches as 500pF, we choose Lm<136μH from an inequality which arises since there is current cancellation between ip and im at to. Therefore, for ZVS of S1 and S4, the energy difference between the energies stored in Lm and Ls should be larger than the energy stored in C1 through C4 as follows: − LmIm2^22 + LsIDo1^22 > C1+C2 Vin^22 = C3+C4 (Vin+Vc)^22 4.4 Selection of Cc The switch current iS3 flows through Cc. From the current waveform iS3 in Fig. 3, the resulting ripple in the voltage across Cc depends on the area under the current waveform. The voltage ripple ΔVc across Cc is approximately given by: ΔVc= 1−D Ts4Cc (Im1 + nIDo2) Where, Im1 = Iin + VinDTs2Lm Iin = VoIoVin IDo2 = nVin−Vo2Ls (D-d1) Ts Vo2 = D−d1−(D/ 1−D d2D−d1+d2 nVin And from the equation for ΔVc, Cc should be larger than 3.49 μF to keep the ripple below 1 V. The value of Cc is selected as 6.6 μF. 4.5 Selection of Co1 and Co2 The secondary current is flows through C01 and C02 equally. The voltage ripple across C01 is given by: ΔVo1 = D−d1+d2 TsIDo24Co1 And from the above equation, C01 should be larger than 18.75 μF to keep ΔV01 below 0.1 V. The value of C01 is selected as 47 μF. Similarly, C02 is also selected as 47μF.

Figure 6.2: Measured Key Waveforms The figure shows the key waveforms of the proposed converter. It shows the currents is and it, the clamping capacitor voltage Vc and the switch voltage vs2. According to the equation for Cc, clamping capacitor voltage Vc should be 64 v. It agrees with the experimental result. The measured maximum voltage stress of S4 is around 110v, which agrees with the theoretical analysis. The ZVS operations of all power switch S4 is shown in the figure 6.3. The voltage across the switches goes to zero before the gate pulses are applied to the switches. Since the switch voltages are clamped to zero before the gate pulses are applied, the ZVS turn on of the switches is achieved. Figure 6.4 shows the ZCS of output diodes. After the diode currents fall to zero, the voltages across the diode rise to output voltageV0. Therefore, the ZCS turn off of the output diodes is achieved.

VI. Conclusion
The limitations of the conventional dc-dc converters in high-step-up, low-cost, and high-efficiency are analyzed. From the aforementioned analysis, the major challenges in applications requiring high voltage gain can be drawn as follows: 1) Extension of voltage gain. 2) Reduction of switch 3) Realization of soft-switching performance to reduce the switching losses. 4) Alleviation of the output-diode reverse-recovery problem to reduce the reverse-recovery losses. In this paper, an asymmetrical full-bridge converter with high voltage gain has been presented. The ZVS of all power switches and ZCS of the output diodes are achieved. The proposed converter is able to provide a high efficiency and high-voltage gain with relatively low transformer turn ratio. Also, without any auxiliary circuits, the voltages across the switches and the output diodes are effectively clamped. Therefore, the proposed converter is suitable for high-voltage applications. A prototype was simulated to verify the performance of the proposed converter. The voltage gain is 8.3with the transformer turn ratio of 3. REFERENCES [1] R. J. Wai, W. H. Wang, and C. Y.
