This study investigates the biochemical conversion of acid-pretreated water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) into alcohol using the yeast Pichia stipitis NCIM3497. It highlights the potential for utilizing water hyacinth, an invasive species, as a low-cost renewable biomass for alcohol production, reducing the financial burden of its removal from water bodies. The fermentation process yielded 19.2 gm/l alcohol after 40 hours, demonstrating the viability of this approach for sustainable fuel production.
