Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that
establish…

Setting

1. In the background of the cut scene, you
can hear the feint sounds of Gekkos (Mooing
war machines) Mooing to make out that
there are more around than you can see in
the scene.
2. Whilst the fight is happening, you can
always hear the helicopter blades spinning to
give the idea that the helicopter is circling
round them throughout he fight.
3. The music in the background is very quiet
and minimalistic so that the sounds of the
fight aren’t drowned out by an intense
soundtrack and the tempo of the music is
high to show the speed of the fight in the
scene.

Mood

1. When Vamp is introduced at 1:05, a
subtle piece of music plays to give the
feel of peril or danger now that he has
arrived in the scene.
2.The music momentarily kicks up when
Vamp inserts his blade into Raiden at
1:41 almost to show the sudden pain
Raiden feels and to emphasise the shock
that Vamp has actually stabbed him.
3. When Raiden is let loose and the

Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements

1.They could have recorded the
directional sound of a cow mooing
or they might have pulled a
generic cow sound from a music
library.
2.They could have recorded the
ambient sound of a helicopter
flying around in the air.
3.An orchestra could have
recorded many of the elements of
the music in the scene and edited
it to give it an echo and reverb it a
bit or they could have composed it
digitally which would make more
sense as the music has a very
digital feel to it.
1.They could have used a string
orchestra to make the violin like
sound effect.
2.An electronic drum machine
could probably have been used
here to make the echo-y snare
sound.
3.A synthesized percussion sound
was no doubt used to create this
quick paced action soundtrack.

action starts, the music ramps up and
plays an exciting, quick paced piece to
signify the rage induced battle that is
about to begin.
1. In the fight sequence, there are a
lot of “swishing “ fight noises very
much like an old marshal arts film
to signify an action scene.
2. There are sounds of blade on
blade sword fighting followed by
skin being pierced to give the
effect that its a heavy action
scene with nothing being held
back.
3. After Raiden has flung the Gekkos
up into the air after being
released, they fall to the ground
with a heavy impact sounds like
many machine bodies crashing into
the ground after being sliced
apart.

This scene has some fairly interesting
dialogue whilst the fight scene is happening,
such as when Vamp questions, “You too...
Immortal?” and Raiden replies “No. I just
don’t fear death.”

1.They may have used a
professional sword fighter to swing
blades around and record the
sounds of him doing so.
2.For this sound they could have
created the sound effect by
stabbing different types of fruit/
vegetable until they found the
right sound effect.
3.They could have taken a
machine being dropped sound
effect from a sound library or
dropped some old computer parts
and recorded the sound in a
studio.

The human voices have been recorded in a
studio by actors, for example, Raiden is
played by Quentin Flynn.
