Project Three Photo Spread Analysis
28 June 2015
Subject: Dennis arrested for stealing.
Memorandum:
A young woman named Vicky was at the mall where she had her purse stolen from her by a white
male. The only description that Vicky can give to the police is that the assailant was a white male,
approximately 25 to 35 years old, tall, perhaps close to six feet, somewhat stocky. She recalls him
as having dark blond hair and does not recollect facial hair. (UMUC, 2015) William, a 6 4 male,
witnesses the incident; he saw the man walk rapidly toward Vicky and grab her purse. He had a
good view of the assailant the entire time. He describes the assailant as, a white male,
approximately 30 to 35 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By displaying similar looking people on the photo spread you could ensure that the witness is
choosing the correct one. If the officer does not have a suspect, she may show witnesses a mug
book, beat book, or other compilation of photographs. These usually have so many photographs
in them that suggestiveness is rarely an issue. (Module 2, 2015) The photo spread should also
display 6 8 photos when trying to identify just one suspect. Also when trying to display the photo
spread, the people shown in the photos that are selected must be of the same race, age, general
physical characteristics, and sex as the suspect. Hair style, facial hair, and other facial features
should be similar. If the suspect has close cropped hair, it would be improper to include fill ins
with bushy hair. The background and tone of the photographs should also be similar to preclude
any particular photograph standing out. It is not necessary for the images in the spread to be
clones, but the photos should be similar enough in appearance to ensure a reliable identification.
(Module 2, 2015) When compiling or displaying a photo spread to a witness the officer should use
the NIJ Guidelines as their standard. The National Institute of Justice wrote Eyewitness Evidence:
A Guide for Law Enforcement. This set of guidelines is an important tool for refining investigative
practices dealing with this evidence as we continue our search for truth. (National Institute of
Justice, 1999)

Distribution of Chamapsipho brunneas and Lepsiella Scobina at Sirens Rock
In Order to analyse the Distribution of C.brunneas and L.scobina, Year twelve Biology classes had
to go down to the Sirens Rock on the south coast of wellington. The Habitat is mainly rock but
there are rock pools from when the high tide went down the water couldn t get out. Chamapsipho
brunnea or Brown Barnacle are a type of barnacle found in the mid high tides parts of rocky shores.
Brown Barnacle are also known as filter feeders so they feed off of algae and plankton. Brown
Barnacle are not found in the low tide zones for this reason their shells can close off meaning
that they can survive out of water longer by keeping water locked in their shells. Lepsiella
Scobina or oyster borer are a predatory sea snail species. they feed off of barnacle and other prey
they are found in the mid high tide zones of rocky shores and not low tide. Oyster borer are

Competition can be intraspecific meaning between members of the same species or
interspecific meaning members of others species. If a brown barnacle is in a competition
between members of its own species or with a member of another species it will try to not stick its
bottom by anything else so it will be able to get enough food to survive. Brown barnacle has a hard
shell so when predators like the oyster borer come up at high tide and mid tide to kill and eat it, the
brown barnacle will try and fight it off but it does not always win. The brown barnacle feed off of
algae that is on the same rock as them by scooping water and any food into the opening of its shell.

4. Corporal Punishment with Respect to the Private and Public...
1Introduction
Corporal punishment is the unlawful intentional act of causing harm by physically inflicting
punishment on the body of an offender or severely criticising the offender. There is a distinction in
common law between corporal punishment in the public sphere and in the private sphere.
Corporal punishment on children in the private sphere is administered by parents. It is legally
accepted in South Africa, provided that the requirements are met.
The public sphere s position is much different in the sense that the government along with all
schools have no authority to physically discipline school children anymore. Authority to exercise
corporal punishment often leads to abuse of power, child abuse and feelings of superiority. All...

Rex v Janke Janke ( Janke ) clarifies the rights parents have when corporally punishing their children
with the intention of teaching them a valuable lesson. The requirements for this defence are for it
to be moderate and reasonable. The reasonable requirement refers to the child having to wrongfully
do something or threaten to do so. The moderate requirement states that the punishment must be in
proportion to the age, build, health and gender of the child. Corporal punishment by parental
authority can only succeed as a defence if it meets these requirements, as well as having the
intention to discipline or educate the child.
3 1Arguments against parent s right of chastisement
The harm inflicted on a child when punishing him/her, violates the human rights of the child, which
states that every child should be protected from abuse or degradation in section 28(d) of the
Constitution. Another point of inconsistency the legalisation of corporal punishment in the private
sphere, is set out in section 39(3) of the Constitution that states: The Bill of rights does not deny the
existence of any other rights or freedoms that are recognised or conferred by common law,
customary law or legislation, to the extent that they are consistent with the Bill . The current
position of the private sphere is not in correspondence with the public sphere, even though they both
deal with corporal punishment. Confusion could be raised as

5. Fargo Film Analysis
Fargo is a movie directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen who are brothers. It is a 1996 American
crime film. Unlike most common movies, Fargo has its own style. The story is linear. It tells a
story in three different lines. The beginning of the film shows a few lines of subtitles. It is
adapted from a true story took place in Minnesota in 1987. The reason why this is done, just to be
more attractive, if audiences feel it is real, then they will go down. Coen uses lively narrative
rhythm in this film. For them, manufactured suspense by concealing the story is far from clear, but

6. Compare and Contrast Dna and Rna
Compare and contrast DNA and RNA. Discuss why humans did not evolve with one central
repository of DNA, but rather it is replicated throughout the body?
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA): It is helical double stranded nucleic acid made of complementary
purine and pyramidines supported by deoxy ribose sugars and phospodiester structures. (5 Prime to
3 prime). Eukaryotic DNA material.
Ribonucleic acid (RNA): It is a single nucleic acid supported by adenine, guanine, cytosine and
uracil supported by ribose sugars. mRNA, rRNA and tRNA.
Double standed RNA Viruses are also with RNA as genetic material

The four bases found in DNA are adenine (abbreviated A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine
(T). A fifth pyrimidine base, called uracil (U), usually takes the place of thymine in RNA and
differs from thymine by lacking a methyl group on its ring.
If we only had one central repository of DNA, it would take a long time for a protein to be made.
We d have to make it far in advance of needing it, so we wouldn t be able to quickly respond to new
situations. Imagine if you were out hunting, and suddenly, a wolf appeared at your side. If you
were slow at making proteins because you had one central repository of DNA, the wolf would
probably get to you before you could respond safely.
Also, regulation of proteins occurs at the level of DNA as well as on other levels. In some cells,
certain sections of DNA are bundled tight in a mass of proteins, in such a way that no RNA (and
thus no protein) can be made from them. This turns off those genes. In other sections, only a few
proteins might be keeping the DNA turned off, so that it could quickly be unravelled and used to
make proteins.
This decreases the chance of harmful mutations killing the entire body, as well. Right now, you
have redundancy many copies of heart cells, each with a full set of DNA. Now imagine that
something goes wrong with one of those cells. It can safely suicide , and the other cells will
replace it.
If we had one central set of DNA, if anything ever went wrong

7. The Role of Istambul on Modern Literature
Istanbul plays an important role in all kinds of art. It is especially important in literature. There
are a lot of books set in Istanbul and we can also talk about famous writers who were inspired by
the Istanbul views and who wrote beautiful stories because of Istanbul. There is also another group
of writers, who were born and who wrote or write their works here, in Istanbul. This, of course, has
its own print and meaning, because living in such a beautiful and great city like Istanbul cannot not
to affect writers works. When we talk about literature and Istanbul, we also have to mention famous
writers and poets that wrote their stories and books in this city. Istanbul has a rich story, there have
lived a lot of writers from the Ottoman Empiretill nowadays. There were writers not only from the
common people, but also from the Sultans. For example, Ottoman emperor Suleiman the
Magnificent, who moved to Constantinople after the death of his father, was also an accomplished
poet, he wrote his poems in both Persian and Turkish languages. His most famous verse under the
pen name Muhibbi is this:
The people think of wealth and power as the greatest fate,
But in this world a spell of health is the best state.
Wha men call sovereignty is a worldly strife and constant war;
Worship of God is the highest throne, the happiest of all estates.
Another famous Turkish writer who was both born in Istanbul and wrote about Istanbul is Orhan

this growth, the middle class started playing a more significant role in Russias national economy.
Russia also has the largest territory in the world, with an area of 6,601,668 square miles of land,
while the United States contains 3,794,100 square miles. Along with a diverse economy, the large
territory of land, Russia s technology plays an incredibly significant role in improving Russia s
economy and society as whole. However, even though Russia has a rapidly growing economy,
Russia is currently experiencing decreasing Green Index Scores. Seventh Generation is a strong
brand that has a powerful focus, and it could start a positive environmental revolution in Russia as
the country gets more developed. Russians are brand oriented, and the Russian consumers purchase

The Opium Wars
Imperial China was one of the greatest civilizations. It was leading in its inventions, trading routes,
and craftsmanship. Beginning in 221 BC, it lasted up till the final Qing Dynasty. It s downfall can
be attributed to the introduction of the drug, opium, from the west. It s introduction inspired two
wars, namely The Opium wars of the 19th century. In the 18th century, the country was flourishing,
while it had control of international trade. By the 19th century, China had lost control of trade and
was struggling with mass amounts of poverty and addiction.
Many assume that because of the Qing Dynasty 1644 1912, China had no outside contact with the
world. However, this is false. Since the 16th century the imperial court had been receiving
European diplomatic and religious missions. From 1760 Canton or what is called now Guangzho, a
city north easy of Hong Kong, had the monopoly on foreign trade within China. During this time,
China had many cultural and diplomatic procedures involving foreign trade. Foreigners interacted
with Cohongs, licensed chinese merchants. More and more Europeans began to get involved with
trade in China and the city of Canton flourished with international trade. China had many exotic and
high quality products to sell to Europeans. Silk, tea, herbs, spices, and porcelain were among the
chief exports. Tea, being the most popular export to Great Britain, was in high

open and close leading to modulation of the pain gate. Proposing that physical, emotional and
mental conditions are responsible for closing and opening the gate, found in the dorsal horn of
the spinal cord. Moreover, it helps to explain the relationship between thoughts and emotions in
modifying the perception of pain, why actions such as music, imagery, and distraction help to
relieve it. For example, understanding that the gate may be opened by bodily injury, anxiety, and
depression. The gate may be closed by analgesia, good mood, and distraction. Therefore by

model has only a minor chance, between 13.8 and 15.3 percent, of predicating safe sex behavior
(McEachan 2011). Based on these types of findings, researches have encouraged the inclusion of
additional variables to the TPB framework that may help to increase predictability (Conner
Armitage, 1998). In research undertaken by Turchik Gidych, six variables were added to extend the
model, the first three; past behaviour, anticipated affect and moral norms, have consistently shown
to increase predictability when using the TPB, furthermore researchers have argued for their
permanent inclusion in the model (Turchik Gidycz, 2012). The last three, sexual... Show more

13. Contingency Theory
INTRODUCTION:
According to Public Administration in Canada, (pg 70) contingency theory is one of the most
recent theories in organizational structure, it argues that there is no one best way of structuring an
organization. Instead contingency theory suggests that the best way to structure a particular
organization is contingent(dependent) on a number of factors such as the attitudes of the managers
and employees, the nature of the task performed by the organization and the nature of the
environment.
The basic premise of Contingency Theory is that there is no one best way to organize a
corporation, to lead a company, or to make decisions. There are too many external and internal
constraints that will alter what really is the best way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four important ideas of Contingency Theory are:
1. There is no universal or one best way to manage.
2. The design of an organization and its subsystems must fit with the environment.
3. Effective organizations not only have a proper fit with the environment but also between its
subsystems.
4. The needs of an organization are better satisfied when it is properly designed and the management
style is appropriate both to the tasks undertaken and the nature of the work group.
DISCUSSION:
There are too many external and internal constraints that will alter what really is the best way to
lead in a given situation and some examples of such constraints (factors) include: The size of the
organization, how the firm adapts itself to its environment, differences among resources and
operations activities, assumptions of managers about employees, strategies being used, technologies
being used, suppliers and distributors, consumer interest groups, customers and competitors,
government and unions among others which shall be discussed below.
According to the contingency theory, a Theory X manager would not structure an organization in
the same manner as a Theory Y manager. following McGregor, there is a tendency to look at the
Theory X manager as always being the bad

Now finally alone, drowning in the rain, a young girl lays still on the railroad, awaiting for her
hopeful demise. She had become lost, her past few days. She threw herself into the unknown
and ran away from what she conceived to be a harbinger of doom. The whistle was heard at last,
the steam emerged, her smile rose and soon all would turn black... Silvina, or as her name
simply became Silva, was a silent birth in comparison to the world around her. She stuck to that
silence for the rest of her existence. She was born to a family who lived off the coast of the world
far away from any major civilization. Living off the crops they sowed, rarely any profit was ever
made. Though her years numbered little, Silva smiled day to day, knowing in... Show more content

simple possibility of people forgetting the importance of this day. Given that it could also just
not be too important in their minds, but I was still confused as to where they could have gone. I
stood, and walked about aimlessly in the house, humming a song I ve known since I was a

The purpose of this project is to test if smaller reactants create a faster chemical change. This test
also will show if hot or cold water affect the time of the chemical reaction. The experiment will
show if reactants are broken down into smaller particles can the chemical reactions speed up, the
increase of CO2 at ten second intervals. This will be done using an experiment with Alka seltzer
tablets, varying their physical composition and timing the release of CO2 over ten second intervals.
Alka Seltzer tablets have ingredients that help with indigestion, stomach aches, headaches, and
inflammation. The ingredients inside of a Alka Seltzer tablet are: 325 mg of aspirin, 1000 mg of
citric acid , and 1916 mg of sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate is a white powder that can
be used as a buffering agent for pH, a cleaning solution, and a electrolyte replenisher.Additionally,
sodium bicarbonate uses ions to increase plasma and create a buffering agent for pH. The
molecular formula for sodium bicarbonate is NaHCO3. Another primary ingredient in Alka

Mills take On liberty is similar to Huntington s argument on clash of civilization because mills

attempt to answer question One section C, I will discuss J.S Mill theory On liberty for an individual

Mill believes in the individual and his freedom to exercise his rights a person so long it does not
harm others. That no one should be forced or pressured into doing things against their will and
not even society, forceful ruler ship and public opinions of other should interfere in an individual

In the medieval Islamdom, the government was to employ castration, mandatory celibacy and

social practice was to destroy existing family, affiliation and to deploy them into a less

But how can this be related or applied to humanoid robots? Especially, in accordance to Leopoldina

The main political factor that would influence the success of Scooterino in a particular economy is
state regulations concerning ridesharing business. Specifically, the more regulations there are in a

Scooterino in that economy.
What is interesting in this analysis is that the four cities under consideration Berlin, London, Madrid

one of the biggest names in a ridesharing business Uber has faced considerably more obstacles on
its rise to prominence in Europe, compared to the United States, where it originated. As it appears,

One of the major factors deciding whether a ridesharing business will sustain in the long run is the
corruption level in a particular economy. Specifically, the higher the corruption level is, the easier
it would be for competing businesses to using various bribing schemes to enforce a ban on your
business. In the case of a ridesharing platform, the ban might be initiated in the interest of taxi
industry, and such cases are outlined further in the section dedicated to analysis of legal factors.
While there is no evidence to suggest that bans on ridesharing sector are caused solely by corrupt
state officials, in certain cases it is virtually to impossible to identify other reasons for restrictive
legislative acts. The more corrupt the particular state is, the easier it is for a particular lobbying
company to enforce legislative acts that would limit their competitors

21. The Process Of Recycling Aluminum From Cans Into Potassium...
Title: The Process Of Recycling Aluminum From Cans Into Potassium Aluminum Sulfate.
Author Information: Taylor Wharton*, Colton Barr, Suyash Gupta Chem 111 section 490
Introduction: A major avenue of recycling and saving money is found in the recycling of aluminum
cans. While aluminum cans are often recycled, the process of turning the can itself into a usable
alum is not as well understood. Seeing that the process involves taking an aluminum can and
utilizing heat reductions, filtrations, and mixtures in order to end up with alum crystals helps better
understand how recycling can help save money and resources.
Materials and Methods: Using all PPE a weighing boat and a balance were used to measure out
1.1121g of pieces of aluminum can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results and Discussion:
The creation of alum is made through four reactions. The first of these allows the aluminum to
be oxidized with the 50mL of 1.4M KOH which creates a redox reaction. This is shown in the
balanced reaction of 2Al(s)+2KOH(aq)+6H2O(l) 2KAl(OH)4(aq)+3H2(g). The next reaction
comes from the addition of the the 20mL of 6.0M sulfuric acid. This reacts in the mixture to
create 3 parts of the mixture including water, aluminum hydroxide, and potassium sulfate which is
show in the balanced reaction of 2KAl(OH)4+H2SO4(aq) 2Al(OH)3(s)+K2(SO4)3(aq)+2H2O(l).
The third reaction creates aluminum sulfate and hydrogen as shown in the balanced equation of
2Al(OH)3(s)+H2SO4(aq) Al(SO4)3(aq)+6H2)(l). The final reaction that results in alum is found
in the cooling of the third reaction and this allows the crystals to precipitate and this is shown in
the balanced reaction of Al2(SO4)3(aq)+K2SO4(aq)+24H2O(l) 2KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). These four
reactions show how the original aluminum is able to be recycled and made into alum through
addition of acids and usage of heat and cooling to form crystals.
In converting the original 1.1121g of Aluminum can pieces used in the beginning of the process to
.0422 moles of Aluminum and alum the theoretical yield of this experiment was calculated as
being 19.5544g of KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). Because the actual yield of alum created was

22. Concentration Of Acid-Base Titration
Acid Base titration is defined as using a solution of known concentration and volume to find the
concentration of a solution with known volume but unknown concentration. Acid Base titration can
be used when mixing strong acids and strong bases because strong acids and bases neutralize each
other. Phenolphthalein indicators, substances that change color based on pH, can be used to
determine when the titrationis complete and when both of the solutions are neutralized. In this
experiment, AcidBase titration will be used to determine the concentration of 10mL of an HCl
solution by adding a known volume 0.1003 M NaOH solution using a buret. The chemical
equation for this reaction is NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) в†’ NaCl(aq)+H2O(l). Because the moles of
NaOH equals the moles of HCl, the number of moles of NaOH that are added to the solution in
order to neutralize it will equal the moles of HCl in the solution. The number of moles of NaOH
added to the solution will be used to determine the moles of HCl, which will then be used to
determine the molarity of the HCl solution by dividing the number of moles of HCl by the volume
of HCl, according to the formula: Moles/Volume=Molarity.
Results
The average HCl molarity was found to be 0.090 M. Our actual values were 0.091, 0.091, and
0.089. These molarities were found according to the formula mass/volume=molarity. For example,
0.089 was found by dividing the moles of NaOH added to the solution (8.9x10 4) by the volume of

that it echoes the modeling or imitation behavior executed by children and adolescents. For

because of the outcome of the human brains premotor cortex initiating its mirror neurons via trying

25. The Birth Narrative Of Jesus Christ
As children many of us were told or taught the birth narrative of Jesus Christ. The story was
much simpler, Mary the wife of Joseph was told by Gabriel the angel she was in favor of God
because she had been faithful to him. Though Mary was a virgin God preformed a miracle and
Mary bore a child. He was born in manger and surrounded by shepherds and wise men who
brought gifts to their new savior. For most of us that is the story of Jesuss birth and in the New
Testament Matthew and Luke tell a similar story, but reading the text the audience can find some
subtle and significant differences. In this paper I will discuss the implications of reading both
Matthew and Luke. Conferring my research to what is presented within the New Testament I
will argue that Matthew and Luke told the story that they had heard from oral tradition and this
can prove that the basic facts of both gospels are mainly true but are changed through
generations. To first understand my thesis, we must know the story of Matthew and Luke. To
begin I will focus on the differences of Matthew and follow with Luke. 1:1 1:17 establishes the
genealogy of Jesus1. Matthew follows his ancestry to Abraham, the father of Isaac2. He continues
with the son Jacob the father of Judah and so on3. Matthew s story also contains a set of main

bonus to help the reader reimagine certain aspects of the story. The scene Harold meets Maude

makes the book come alive. On the other hand, the movie World War Z is a loose adaptation of

32. The Terri Schiavo Case Study
What legal impact did this case have on legislation? The Terri Shiavo case had a significant
impact on legislation. After numerous appeals in the court regarding both removing as well as
reinstating ANH (Artificial Nutrition and Hydration), the in 2003, the Florida House and Senate
passed Terri s Law which for the first time in history granted permission to governor to direct a
specific medical act be carried out on the patient. In 2004, the Florida Supreme court declared
Terri s Law as retroactive legislation citing separation of powers and citizens right to privacy as
justification. What ethical issues were involved? The main ethical issue that was involved in the
Terri Shivao case was whether administering Artificial Nutrition and Hydration was morally
obligatory or optional. The other ethical issues that were involved were that of autonomy,
beneficence and non maleficence. Was her autonomy permitted? Why or why not? The principle
of autonomy focuses primarily on the concept of independence and values the ability of the
individual to make rational and logical choices. For those individuals who are incapable of making
sound decisions on their own, the standard of substituted judgement should be followed which
describes the decision that the patient would make for themselves if they were mentally capable of
doing so. Terri Shiavo would not have wanted herself to suffer the pain of her vegetative state, yet
her husband, Michael Schiavo took many years to

33. Grafting of the Bone
Bone grafting is performed to restore bone that has been lost due to injury, trauma, or disease.
Injury may cause haematoma and bleeding from adjacent structures to occur. Haematoma is
clotting of blood that occur in any specific region such as around the broken bone ends. This event
is localized. Two ends involved are proximal and distal boneend which is the medium for osteonal
healing (ossification) to occur.
Ossification is the process of bone formation that is usually beginning at particular centers in each
prospective bone and involving the activities of species osteoblasts that segregate and deposit
inorganic bone substance about themselves (Webster, 2013). To form fracture callus, hyaline
cartilage and woven bone has to be formed first. In order this to happen, chondroblasts and
osteoblasts will arise from periosteum of each ends respectively.
After that, fracture callus will undergo the process of bone subtitution, followed with
endochondral ossification, resulting in production of lamellar bone. Final remodelling of the bone
is completed by deposition of compact bone by osteoblasts in resorption pits prepared by the
osteoclasts (Gaston and Simpson, 2007). This natural osteonal healing would be done well if and
only if these four prerequisites are active.
Firstly, cells with active osteogenic potential. Secondly, medium which has active osteoconductive
matrix. Thirdly, medium with an active osteoconductive stimulus. Lastly, a mechanically active and

34. Unemployment Rate In The United States
Sypnosis (50 100 words)
The U.S. employment rate has fallen, resulting in the addition of 173000 jobs, which is below
expectations. This is mostly due to people searching for jobs or giving up on doing so. This, along
with a jittery stock market and uneven growth, has created doubt in the U.S. economy s ability to
handle a rate increase. Inflation and economic growth also contributes to the unemployment rate in
the U.S.
Analysis (500 700 words)
This article is related to macroeconomic which examines how the economy functions and its
performance. Unemployment as a whole is related to macroeconomics. There are many reasons as
to why a person could be unemployed. He or she could be retrenched, fired or still be looking for a
job. However, if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inflation is when there in an increase in price of goods and service, causing there to be a fall in
the currency as lesser goods and services can be brought by each unit of currency due to the rise
in price. Rapid economic growth will often lead to inflation. When the economy is rapidly
growing, a company will need to employ more employees, resulting to a fall in unemployment
rate. As unemployment rate falls, lesser people will be looking for jobs and the company will
find it harder to fill up job vacancies. This will cause the salaries of the workers as well as
company spending to increase, resulting in the company passing on the extra costs to the
consumer. Together with the raise in salaries for the employees, they will have more to spend,
resulting in an increase in an aggregate demand. All this will result in rapid economic growth,
where the increase in price will cause inflation to occur.
Conclusion ( 50 100 words)
Rapid economic growth is one thing we should avoid as this could lead to inflation which could
result in recession or even worse situation. Inflation results in an increase in price which will make
it difficult to predict future goods and service cost. Investments in the country will be lower causing
the country to have even poorer economic growth (EconomicsHelp, n.d.). Unemployment is
therefore an important factor as it will affect the economic

Aidan Dolinar
Mrs. Kelley Weakely
Honors English
Period 5
9/30/15
The Coward s way A Sound of Thunder (Ray Bradbury) and The Lottery (Shirley Jackson) are
both connected through a specific quality that characters in both stories contain. That quality is
the inability to make good decisions. When faced with alarming or stressful situations, Eckels,
Travis, and the townsfolk in the lottery, make bad decisions. The townsfolk blunder through their
life, blindly following the unjust tradition to stone someone to death each year. Eckels and Travis
are both cowards, and cowards tend to make bad decisions because they are selfish. Both stories
are connected by these cowardly people that make bad decisions. The lottery townsfolk are put
under pressure by not a person, but by tradition. Tradition makes them scared, and fear blinds
people. Traditions can have many beginnings, but ones such as this, with no positive result, are
simply a terrible decision. However, the townsfolk believe in tradition, and this pressures them into
going along with this horrible idea. When Mrs. Hutchinson is chosen, she also makes a bad
decision. Fear can cause denial, which, in Mrs. Hutchinson s case, can lead to your death. Instead of
turning tail and running from her fate, she stands and lets the other townsfolk surround her, simply
saying, It isn t fair, it isn t right, (The Lottery). Then simply letting the other townsfolk kill her

39. What s Wrong With Gay Marriage By Katha Pollitt
The essay written by Katha Pollitt, titled, What s wrong with gay marriage is an intriguing one. At
first, the author, explains the notion that marriage and procreation do not necessarily go hand in
hand. And later, she carefully interprets the true meaning of marriage; by stating that there is a
separation of church and state. Most importantly, the author speaks to her audience in a clear and
logical manner; without adding personal biases. Although the essay may seem to have deterministic
view on social behavior. Nonetheless, I believe that does not disqualify the series of argument
which she makes.
Pollit expounds on the true meaning of marriage; by looking at the history of marriage. For a period
of time, polygyny was the rule; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, it is something deeper more genuine a union which does not need to follow social order.
It is about two people loving each other for how they naturally know how to. This makes the
reader come to the understanding that gay marriage is not an attention seeking behavior; but
instead a sincere desire for another. Pollit concludes by saying the only objection to gay
marriage is based on religious prejudice. Which means that there is no logical reasoning behind
people disapproval of gay marriage. Rather, it is merely something which someone else s god
dislikes. At the end marriage is not defined by religion; but instead interpreted by the government.
Even if the holy book tells you to wed all the people in apartment 3G your still not allowed to do so.
Regarding the controversial issue of same sex marriage. It seems that Pollit is trying to justify
same sex marriage by comparing it to a legal substandard marriage (A man can marry a woman
no matter how ill acquainted). And in the essay of gay Marriage societal suicide by Charles
Colson, he takes the same approach by disregarding all the issues of traditional marriage. Both of
these essays are guilty of distorting the readers perception of what is a good marriage by vastly
exaggerating the

41. Romeo And Juliet s Death
It only takes one person to take another person s life. Ones morals, beliefs, and values can affect
another. A man who makes the irresponsible decision to drink and drive can take someone s life
in seconds. If that man crashes and hits and kills another driver, their one decision to drink and
drive has a bigger outcome than they expected. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers
remain separated because of one man s decisions that change the whole story. A decision no
matter its size, or how thoughtfully it is made, can lead to an outcome that may be small and
even life changing. One has to be blamed for an ending, so who is at fault for Romeo and Juliet
s death? Although, some might argue Friar Lawrence remains at fault for Romeo and Juliet s
death, Romeo is actually at fault for their deaths since, Romeo kills Tybalt, which causes him to
get exiled and Juliet to drink the potion, and he makes an impulsive decision to kill himself,
which leads to Juliet s death. For one to be blamed, they have to be at fault. Being held at fault
means to hold accountability for an accident. Somebody has to be blamed for an accident because
otherwise it would not have happened. In Romeo and Juliet there were many unfortunate events and
many characters were held responsible for each single one. However, Romeo was held responsible
for many more incidents compared to the rest. With his character being dynamic, the changes he

42. The Comparison Of Godot, By James Beckett
There is a vast literature on interpretations of Godot, encompassing Christian and anti Christian
religion, Freudian and Jungian psychology, and a kitchen sinkful of esoteric and obscure isms. The
undeniable fact is that no one really knows what Godot is about, and the playwright himself clearly
believed that the core of his art lay in the ambiguities resulting from the absence of information,
saying that everything he knew about the characters was in the text and if he knew anything more
about the characters then he would have put it in the text. That Godot is more hole than doughnut
has made it an easy target of parody if not outright ridicule. Beckett evolved his unique literary
voice by distinguishing his style from that of his mentor James Joyce, whom he assisted during the
writing of Finnegans Wake. In almost exactly the opposite way, Joyce grounded his art in
fanatically perfectionist control of his work, leaving no missing pieces or rough edges in stuffing
his characters full to overflowing so that we the readers know more about them than they could
possibly know about themselves.
By far the best biography of Beckett, in my opinion, is by James Knowlson of the University of
Reading, whose 20 year friendship with the playwright led to the donation of notebooks,
manuscripts and other archival material that became the world s leading Beckett archive. Knowlson
s title taken from a passage in Beckett s notebooks is Damned to Fame, neatly encapsulating the

43. Beast From Water Alternate Ending Essay
CHAPTER FIVE Beast from Water
The tide was coming in and there was only a narrow strip of firm beach between the water and the
white, stumbling stuff near the palm terrace. Ralph chose the firm strip as a path because he
needed to think, and only here could he allow his feet to move without having to watch them.
Suddenly, pacing by the water, he was overcome with astonishment. He found himself
understanding the wearisomeness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a
considerable part of one s waking life was spent watching one s feet. He stopped, facing the strip;
and remembering that first enthusiastic exploration as though it were part of a brighter childhood,
he smiled jeeringly. He turned then and walked back toward the platform with the sun in his face.
The time had come for the assembly and as he walked into the concealing splendors of the sunlight
he went carefully over the points of his speech. There must be no mistake about this assembly, no
chasing imaginary. . . . He lost himself in a maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his
lack of words to express them. Frowning, he tried again. This meeting must not be fun, but
business. At that he walked faster, aware all at once of urgency and the declining sun and a little
wind created by his speed that breathed about his face. This wind pressed his grey shirt against his
chest so that he noticed in this new mood of comprehension how the folds were stiff like cardboard,

44. ##cietal Values In Society In Amy Poehler s Writing Is Hard
In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be
pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these
situations, two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s
preface, Writing is Hard, and in Tina Feys excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to
live with the difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the
work side and Fey s being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s
mindset and believing in yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more
detailed and thought out job with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything
that more people can relate to. Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to
their specific audience; however, Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler.
Poehler and Fey are both well known for their comedic work and acting abilities in the society
meaning they have the credibility to talk about such topics they discuss in their excerpts, but
Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her advantage. She writes about teaching girls
that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are people tend to get from the media.
For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells her readers of her personal
story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her excerpt from chapter
three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin Janet scoffed,
Look at the hips on her. I panicked. What about the hips? Were they too big? Too small? What
were my hips? Fey later shares her story about her daughter noticing the standards for hair color
by saying, When I asked her why she didn t like Snow White, she told me, I don t like her hair.
Not even three years old, she knew that yellow hair is king (Bossypants). This proves to the
audience that not only is dealing with body image a problem now with the younger generation,
but, also, before Tina Fey even rose to fame. She is able to appeal to the readers emotions by using
her young daughter s story because

In the short story Walk Well, My Brother the author, Farley Mowat, develops the idea that a
significant experience can lead to a change in how one individual views another individual. The
story shows us how a person can learn from another person that is very different from them and be
moved by their selflessness into becoming a better person. It also shows us how important it is for
people not to judge others for superficial reasons.
An individual can learn a lot from people that are very different from them. I feel that this story

In this story, Konola never once acts in a selfish manner towards Charles. She was very ill with
tuberculosis and she still followed Charles across the arctic in order to save his life, even after he

wrong. We know this when Charles is questioning himself; Why had Konola not stayed in the
relative safety of the aircraft or else traveled north to seek her own people? What had impelled
her... to rescue a man of another race who had abandoned her? I think that this is a very
important line, because it shows how Charles still feels a separation from her because of race.
He cannot see how she would follow a man of another race . Konola does not see this as
important, and that is why she feels compelled to save him. He is very moved by her acts of
kindness. She took care of him and nursed him back to health even though she herself was very
ill. This amazed Charles and changed him from a greedy person to a more giving one. It changed
his outlook on the native people and on how he treated others. In the end he begins to care for
Konola because she is too ill to take care of herself and this is proof that he had changed because of
their situation and the things that she had done for him.

Disney s film library had grown, Disney brought distribution in house with the formation of
Buena Vista Distribution Co., in 1953. In films, Disney kept costs low by developing its own
talent pool. For cartoon features, characters were infinitely reusable and never required a salary,
while for live action features, Disney shied away from using well known and expensive talent.
Audiences were drawn because of the reputation Disney had established for providing quality,
reliable, and predictable family entertainment. In the early 1950s, Disney was quick to recognize
the growing medium of television to provide new outlets for Disney characters with The Wonderful
World of Disney first airing in 1953 and The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. Disney s television

Before when I compared the ratios of this runner, I found that this runner will be a sprinter, but this
player is in the second standard deviation for the long distance runner and they are in the seventh
standard deviation for the sprinter. This runner s biceps are smaller for a sprinter because they
are in the first standard deviation for a long distance runner and they are in the third for a sprinter.
Also, this runner has smaller quads for a sprinter because they are in the third standard deviation
for a distance runner and in the fourth for a sprinter. So, basically this runner can be a sprinter
because they have the same ratios of a sprinter and plus if this runner goes to training and develops
muscles then could possibly come closer to the sprinters standard

54. Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Theme
Antigone and The Adjustment Bureau My essay is about Antigone and The Adjustment Bureau
and the topics I worked on in the play and in the movie. My topic for Antigone was Gods and
religion as, in The Adjustment Bureau I picked my topic to be choices and consequences. The
other way I m going to compare and contrast these two topics are with the themes I came up with
for these topics. The theme for Antigone is if you don t listen to The gods you get punished. The
theme for the Adjustment Bureau is the choices you make affect your fate in the end. This essay is
going to cover my two topics and theme and how they are alike and how they are both different to
each other. The reason why Antigone and The Adjustment Bureau are alike is how the themes
