Client Project Pro- Forma
name
Mind Maps/Brainstorms Here is my mind map that I have made it is only little with a few
ideas on there. As I don’t feel like I can explain much on a mind
map what it is that I feel like I could do for my client. I feel like
one thing that I could focus on first is photography. But even this I
feel like there is different aspects of this that I am able to do. For
example since it is a brewery I am able to focus on the beer
bottles they have and things like their labels. As I feel like this is
something that I am able to focus on well. I then am able to focus
on the things like the machines the have and the methods to
then making the beer. But this then can lead to photography of
the people that it is owned by.
Then with this photography it can lead to other things. As with these photographs I will be able to then make posters which
even then I am able to make multiple different kind of posters for my client for the fact that they do different things but
they also have a new building being bought that they are doing up. So this is something that would be good to make a
poster for so people are able to know that it is opening up but with this I think it’s a good chance to also use some of the
photographs that I do take within the poster so that people can get a true feel of the place rather then using photographs
not to do with the company. This way it is also more personal as well. Here are some of their current posters that I have
decided to have a look at to help me when making
one for them so that I am able to keep with the same
style so that it is something that people are able to
still recognize back to them. I feel like I could use
different colours as these posters have stuck with
more of a black background which I feel like is
something that I could stay away from more. As I feel
like its not as bright as it could which by that will
make it more eye catching to their audience and with
a black background it can make the images seem
darker too.
Mind Maps/Brainstorms
Here are all their kind of posters
which you can see all look very
similar with the way that they
look. You can see they have used
the same fonts so this is
something that I will need to ask
my client so that I am able to use
in my own work as well so that I
am able to stay very similar. I feel
like I would use my won style at
the same time as well. So I feel
like more with colours I would
use the red that they have used
on their logo. As when looking at
the other posters you can see
that depending on what the logo
is they have then used that
colour for some of their text.
I feel like getting these
and seeing what my
client has already does
help with me trying to
make a poster for them
on the opening of
another part of their
business and I have
gotten them to send me
anything that I may need
and I am also able to look
at their website and any
social media for anything
else that I may need. This
can be information or
even photographs. But
since it is a local
company I am able to go
down and take any
photographs that I feel I
may need if I may need
anymore. But also able to
go to a local event that
they will be at in a few
weeks and take some
photographs then as well
if this is something that I
feel would help me with
my work more. But the
fact that they are local is
something that is really
helpful as I am able to go
down and ask questions
or anything that I may
need to know. So its
easier to get information.
Here is some more of their things that they have sent me for
incase it is something that I may need to use. As you can see
they have used the same background and all of these apart
from the fact they have used different colours for each of their
different beers. I feel like in a way these are things that I would
like to add in to my work that I do for them. As these are some
of the labels from some of the beers that they make but I feel
like I will really need to work on how it is that I could add them
in to my work. As they of course do make other beers then
these so I feel like if I was to add them then I feel like it would
need some thinking as they are all very bright and I wouldn't
want them to clash. But I also need to think about my
audience and who it is that I am trying to target.
I then have the logo as well and the title that I will need to use
for my poster as this is what I am trying to show off. I think
when using this on my poster I wont need to add the logo as
well as you already have the logo twice in the title so I think if
I was to add it another time then it would be a little bit too
much.
But I feel like this is my main focus and from here I am able to
see what it is that I would like to add to my poster and the
road that I go down when making it.
Idea 1
When reading the brief they had said that they were wanting something simple
so the first idea that came up with was just a simple white background and
then using logo. Which then from the logo I decided to use them colours for the
text as well so that I could tie it all together. As I didn't want to personally keep
the poster just black and white so I thought by adding the colour to it, it made
it more eye-catching.
What do you like about the idea?
I like this idea because I do believe that it eye catching if I was to carry on with the
colour idea as I think especially against the white background it makes the text and
logo stand out a lot which I do see as a good thing as it is everything that is important
to the poster.
Does it match what the client wants?
I believe it does match what my client wanted as they never specifically told me what
it was they wanted in detail. From the brief what I knew was that they wanted was a
poster to tell people when their venue was opening. But gave me the freedom of how
to design it but because of this I was going to send an email of my fist design to see
what they thought so that I'm able to get more of an idea of what they would like.
Are you capable of delivering this?
I believe that I am capable of delivering this as I feel with the freedom I have and from
their guidance through out I will be able to make a poster that we do both like. As I
still want to make a design that I myself like too and not just my client. So I feel this
type of design is simple and should be easy to make and finish.
Can you do this on time?
I do think that I will be able to finish my production on time as what I do have planned isn't too hard and the posters will have a
simple look to them. I feel like the hardest thing that could take time is finding out the final design as I feel like I will be making
multiple designs till I find the right one. Which when I do even then I will make more then one as well.
Do you have the resources available to do this?
For this I do have the resources available as if I would like to I am able to use my own camera to go take photographs of the actual
place if this is something I end up needing. But apart from that I have everything at college where I am able to use Photoshop to
actually make the posters.
Idea 2 This is my second kind of design idea and as you can see it is very similar to
my other idea. But with this one I decided to use more of a darker
background which this colour I still got from the logo as I felt like black was
a little too harsh. I then went along with using the logo for the text colour
which I think for this aspect it doesn't stand out as much. Then another
idea I had was to use the emoji banner as well.
What do you like about the idea?
There's only a few things that I do like about this and I think that is mainly
the colour scheme I have decided upon as I do like the black background
but I do feel like with this it doesn't stand out as much as the white but I do
prefer it.
Does it match what the client wants?
I think it will match what my client would like as like I've said they haven't
specifically said what it is that they would like. So what I will do is finish
making the poster and then email it to them so that they are able to give
me any kind of feedback of what they like and what it is they don’t like as
much. As this way I'm able to know what to change and what to keep.
Are you capable of delivering this?
I believe I am capable of delivering this as it is just a simple poster design.
As I don’t want to put too much on it as I feel this will take away from the
important aspects of the poster. So I feel like if I keep it very simple with
maybe some kind of graphic design aspect to it this could work. As I feel
like I need to get the text across more since it is about opening a venue and
not about who the business is.
Can you do this on time?
I feel like this is something I will be able to do in time my only problem is
that I know this isn't going to my final design and I feel like this is what will
take up the most of my time. Is figuring out and make more posters till I
can find one I know will work.
Do you have the resources available to
do this?
Yes I do as I have a camera to take
photographs if I need too and then I have
Photoshop at college to make the actual
poster.
Idea Evaluation
I think with my ideas I will be developing them both further as with my work I don’t plan to just make one thing and then
send it to my client. I would like to start off where I will make a few different posters and this will also be with different looks
and colour schemes. As I don’t feel like straight away I will find the right poster design that I like. So I will start off making
some and then I will ask my client what it is they think of the ones that I have made so far as this way I am involving them.
As with my client when it came down to it on the brief they did give me a lot of freedom of how I would like to make the
posters as they didn't have anything they would really like to see apart from the important details on to the poster so other
then that I had choice of colour scheme where I could put things on the poster but also the overall design.
So I knew that I fi made some designs I would be able to then email them and try and get as much feedback as possible as
this way I would be able to move forward and find the right design. Which I know will work as with my client as well they
do reply fast meaning that by doing this it wont take much time either. But I feel like it is easier to do this then to ask my
client what it is they would like to see more. As I do like the freedom that have with this project but I would still like to
involve my client in the work I am doing so they can see my vision as well.
When looking at my ideas you can see how I have used different colours and even though they are all different they do have
elements that are the same. This is mainly because I have found some things that I like the look of so when trying them on
different poster looks I am able to see what does work and if the idea I like doesn't a much as I thought with other poster
ideas. One thing I found that I did like was the emoji banner but this I have had a difficult time with as at first I made it too
big and it kind of over powered the venue name. Yet when making it smaller I still think it took all the attention away from
the important details so even though this was something I liked I will have to get rid of it but when I developed my ideas
more I may come back to it to see if at all I can get it working. Another aspect that I am going to work upon is the fact that I
have got different colour schemes but I think that I want to play more with the black, whites and grey as I feel like these
work really well with the logo they have going on as it doesn't take the attention away like other colours would. But if I was
to add colour into my poster designs I would use the colours that where already in the logo as this way I know that the
colours would go with the logo and wouldn't be over powering.
Developed Idea 1 Here I have then developed my ideas more into
finished posters. But as you can see I have
changed them a little from where my first idea
was going and these are very similar posters but
they do have their differences. As I first started
off with more of a colour look for my fonts but I
then changed it to more of a black and white as I
felt this stranded out a lot more and would catch
peoples eye. With my first design I've kept it very
simple but by doing this I feel like the poster is
missing something as the poster itself does have
a lot of negative space within it. Where as when
you look at the second one you can see that the
space is more filled and there is less negative
space then the first one.
I do like some aspects of these posters for
example I like the colour scheme of it being black
and white. There are a few aspects of the posters
that I am not too keen on. For example I think on
the second poster the emoji board it too much.
As I feel like its too distracting and it takes your focus away from the actual name of the venue. I'm also not a massive fan of
the actual photograph that I took on the poster as I think it doesn't fit in with the style as much and this is something that I
don’t think I will include on to the poster as I know when I was making this poster I did try a few different photographs and
found that none of them really worked. But I think this is a design I would show my client to see what they think so that I
can get some feedback of what they like about the poster and what they would like me to change. As I already have a few
ideas of what I think I could change and what I could add to make the posters a little better. I know one thing that I could
change is the emoji banner as when looking at that I think it takes away from the venue name. You then have the
photograph that I added to the second poster this is something else that I don’t think works. I then don’t think that overall
the design is the best especially where I have placed things I think some fo the words could do to be bigger to really get
your attention.
Developed Idea 2
As you can see with these designs they are
really different from the others as I decided
I wanted to go more with the route of
using more colours which I got from the
logo as I feel like if I used any other kid of
colours they would clash and not work as
well. Which when looking at this designs I
feel like the red doesn't go as well and I
feel like it is something people will have
trouble reading. I think the brown colour
does work but when you look at is with the
emoji banner I think the emoji banner does
over power everything else on the poster
especially with it being that big so when I
move forward I think this is something I
plan to get rid of as when you look at it cut
down as well. I feel like it still just doesn't
work and this is something I think I will get
rid of and work on a different kind of
design as its not something that my client I
asked to be on my poster so I am able to
just get rid of it. When looking back at the
first poster as well one thing I'm not too
keen on is the bottom part where I have
the chunk of writing a a poster I don’t think
people will really stand there and read it
all. So I think I need to work on that and
making it shorter as with a poster what I
need is the important information people
can read straight away.
With the second poster there are a few things I don’t like as well. I do think
this is a better design compared to the first one though as I feel like it gets to
the point more of what the poster is trying to advertise and you are able to
see clearly when it is but even then because of how close the other text is I
feel like when it opens I could make that a little bigger so that you are able to
really read it and that it what catches your eye first. As you can see with this
poster I did add a photograph again which when looking at this design I do
think that this is something that still doesn't go and I don’t think for my final
poster or for any more of my development posters I will be adding
photographs.
Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience?
I feel like so far my design ideas are suitable for my audience but I do think that they could use some work as I am targeting an older
audience then I am used too so I need to be able to make sure that I really think about the colour schemes I am using will be clear for
them to read and see. As when working with younger audience your able to use more colours where as for an older audience I think
it is more suitable to use more of dull colours that will be easy to read or your normal white and black contrast.
Suitability for client?
Yes my idea does fulfil what my client has asked for and mentioned in the brief, even though in the brief they haven't mentioned
much and I do have a lot of freedom in the aspect of the design in the poster I will still make sure to keep in touch with them of the
designs I come up with as this way they are able to have input through out of what they like or don’t like too much with what I design.
But this way I am able to make sure my design is suitable for my client as well.
Appeal of the work:
I feel like when I start to improve on my poster more there will be more of appeal but for now I feel like they are still just ideas and
nothing close to what I personally would like for my final posters. As I feel like it would be great if my work appealed to both me and
my client as this way I know I am able to appeal to different age ranges and hopefully maybe bring them a younger aspect to their
venue as well as their normal target audience.
Timescales for production:
I feel like my project is do able I will need to make sure I work extra hard so that I am able to catch up with the week that I have
missed due to my other client. But I feel like I will be able to get the production done quicker then I expect if I really start to think
about the ideas and develop them more.
Costs:
My project wont cost anything as the client that I have picked is in my village so it is within walking distance so I wont need to pay for
any transport. The only transport I may need to pay for is if I decide that I want to have a look at where the venue will be that my
client would like the poster for but I don’t think this is something that I will be doing. I then wont have the cost to take any
photographs as I do have my own camera or I am able to use one from college and I am able to use Photoshop at college to make
my posters as well so this is something else I wont have to pay for. SO overall I don’t have any costs for my project.
Personnel:
It will be just me making my project. As I wont need anyone else as I will be taking the photographs if need be and then making the posters. I
don’t need anything like models or even anyone else taking photographs for me either. I mean I may take advice from other people of the
photographs that I could take but I will not be depending on anyone else or need anyone else for my project.
Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues:
I could be taking photographs of my clients company in case I will need to use photographs or my poster as by doing this I
can show people more of what my client is like. But I will need to make sure that I get permission to take photographs
around the building where they brew. Also depending what I take photographs off I may have to ask permission to also
have my client in some of the photographs and make sure that this is something they are ok about before I take any
photographs or even think about using any. I will also need to be careful with any of the fonts that my client would like
me to use and make sure that none of them are copyrighted. As I will be asking my client what fonts they use already and
any they may just like the look of for me to use for my poster. I wont have any issue with any of the things they send me to
add to the poster as I will already have their permission but I will need to make sure that if I take anything of their social
media or website for any reason that I do have their permission to use them too.
Research
Competition & Market When looking at other brewery's local I found the Jolly Sailor, they are very similar in
the fact that they are a family run business in the local area . They then deliver their
beers to local pubs and go to markets which is the same as The Little Black Dog. One
thing I have found so far that is different is first the layout of their websites and the way
they go about it but also their social media a little bit.
When looking at their website you can see that it lacks a lot of colour and can be seen
as quiet dull. As on the home page the only main colour that you do have is from the
logo in the left hand corner. They also have a little bit of information about who they
are when you are on the home page but other then this it isn't something that they do
focus on. Where as when you look at the Little Black Dogs website you can see that it is
more bright and overall I think the layout has been done better. As you will find that
when you read the little bit of information it is a lot more personal and even how
they’ve ended it they’ve added all their names so that you can really get to know the
people that are making the beer.
When comparing the both with how they look overall you can see how the Little Black
Dog looks more inviting As you can see that at the top they have both used their logo
and then have the tabs so that you can find out other things. But I like how with the
Little Black Dog they have put their logo in the middle of the page as this is different to
a lot of websites you will see as like the Jolly Sailor the majority of the time you will
notice that the logo is in the left hand corner. You then have the fact that the Little Black
Dog have got more personal tabs as you have one where you can find out about the
people you are buying beer from which is what I think makes their brewery a lot more
personal from the other as with the other you have no way of knowing who the people
are making the beer.
Even though you can see that they both have used a very similar colour scheme with
the fact they use neutral colours you can see how the Little Black Dog have then paired
that with some bright cartoon style pictures and then they have a lot of white around
the edge and where they have the writing which then brightens it up a lot more as well.
Which I think is a massive difference between the two.
When looking at the two designs as well you can see that they have used imagery.
When looking at the Jolly Sailor they have used a simple photograph to the side of what
their brewery place looks inside. Where as the Little Black Dog have used a bigger
photograph and even then they have used multiple. Even though they are just of beer
they really do brighten the page up a lot more as well.
Competition & Market
Here are the labels from some of
the labels they sell. As you can see
they both have a very different
design. With the Little Black Dog
they focus more on a traditional
modern hipster look where as the
Jolly Sailor focus more on a old style
kind of look. I think they both have
great designs and they really stand
out and go well with what their
company is. But you are able to see
how they are great competition for
each other.
In the local area you have a lot of brewers so you can see that there is a massive
competition and also market for it. When I researched into I found the top 3 in the local
area, Goole, Carlton and Snaith. This way I am able to look at things like the logos and
colours they use. As already when looking at the beer labels I have got you are able to see
the different approaches they use and how they go with the companies they are from.
When looking on google at these brewers you can see that Little Black Dog and The Jolly
Sailor both have 5 stars where as the Old Mill Brewery falls behind a little with 4. Hence
why you can see that these two other brewers in the local area are competition for my
client since they are so close together.
When looking at the labels and logos you can see that they all have their own style but
Little Black dog and Jolly Sailor both have more brighter labels and logos. Which really
stand out and I think they really go well with their companies where as when you look at
the logo for Old Mill you can see that compared to the others it is a lot more dull and not
as eye catching but this can because out of all 3 this is the oldest so it has already been
able to build up an audience that will not need to rely on things like the logo to draw
them as they already trust the company where as the other two are still quiet new so
they are still trying to catch peoples attention.
Audience/Customer research:
When looking on social media like Facebook I am able to see how well my client do appeal to their audience.
All 15 reviews that they do have are all 5 stars so they really do appeal to their customers and what it is they
are after. You will also find that with every review they get on their social media they make sure that they are
replying. This can help with really connecting with your audience and appealing to them a lot more.
They don’t reply with a simple thank you either, they
make sure that it is a little bit more personal. With the
fact they say that they loved having the people their
and that they cant wait to see them again. Which
shows good customer service. Especially for the
audience they do appeal to this is something that is
especially important.
For my target audience I wouldn't’t say it would be anyone specific. As it is for
anyone who likes beer and coffee, since these are the two things they are
bringing together for their opening. I think one thing I would say is that they
are wanting to target more of an older audience. This is why they will be
closing at 9pm as they are not targeting for a younger audience especially
since their location is Selby and this is somewhere, where a lot of youngsters
are out late and will cause trouble.
In my opinion I think that their target audience is people at the age of 25 and older. But it is anyone who
is above the age of 18 and has a keen interest into different beers. As this company offers a very diverse
range of beers. As they have their regulars but they also do a lot of limited edition beers as well. You
then have the fact that they have their own brew your own beers as well so that you are able to get the
experience and learn more about it.
Their beers aren't expensive either so I would say that it is also for the middle class. As they also do a
few events and their most recent one was at Carlton Towers for the Royal Wedding.
Content research:
When researching about my client I had a lot that I was able to look at to really get an idea of who they are and what
posters I felt would best suite their style but while still making sure they were different. I was able to first look at their social
media as this way I was able to see how they communicate with their audience which upon research I was bale to see that
this is something they do well and they really like to involve their audience in everything they do for example like the
brewery days they do where you and friends are able to brew your own beer. But they make sure to update their social
media regularly so their audience is always in the loop of what new things they may be up too or even what events they be
next at. This was both Facebook and Instagram that I looked at. Which looking at these helps as the poster I am making they
also wanted to make sure that they could put these on their social media as well. So by researching I was able to see what
would really go with their social media and everything they have posted so far. Next I had a look at their website as well
which is very friendly upon seeing. You also really get that family feel when looking as they really like to involve their
audience as they have page where they tell you a bit about each one of them.
But when looking at all these things I could see they had a common theme of colours running through them all which is
something I would like to stay away from a little but just incase I will make posters with these colours in case this is
something that y client would like. As when reading the brief they have given me they haven't said anything about what
colours they would like to see on their posters. So I feel like if I use the colours they have running through their media and
then use your normal kind of black, white and grey I keep the poster looking clean. But I want to make sure that I still give
people that friendly and family feel from my posters so that I am able to really represent what my client do.
Treatment
What I intend to make for you is a range of posters, by making a range I am able to get your input as well to what it is you
like out of the ones I have made for you. As this way you as the client can either choose to use the one poster or all the
posters that I have made for you. As I intend to at least make 4 posters for you to choose from they will all have the same
design but the difference between all 4 of them will be the colour scheme as with people you can never be sure what they
are able to read clearly so by having the different colour schemes you know that people will be able to read at least one of
them. What I first plan to do is start with one or two ideas, which I then will start to develop more as this way I will be able
to finally get to the right design. By doing this I am able to still make sure that you as my client will stay in the loop and I
know of all the different ideas I have come up with and the idea developments as well. This way I still have the freedom that
you have given me to design the poster but I am still able to make sure that my ideas will appeal to you and you are able to
help more with what works and doesn't work as well.
After I have made the poster designs I will then go on to making the social media posters as well. It will be easier to make
these after wards as I will be able to see what works on these from the print out posters. As since I will be making them
smaller not everything might work hence why I will do them after the print out posters.
What I would like to do when making the poster is have the main focus on the
venue logo as this is what I would like people to see first. So I feel like if I put this in
the middle of the poster people will see it straight away and then after wards look
at all the information that is important. For example I feel like if I put when it opens
at the top this is what people will look at next after the venue name.
I have been thinking of colour schemes and I think what would be best for the
poster is if I take inspiration from your logo of what colours I decide to use as one
thing I don’t want to do is to have the colours I use clash with your logo as I feel like
this would be very distracting to your audience. Then when looking at the
photographs I took I feel like these are things that I can include into the posters in
some way so that people are able to get a real feel of your company and what it is
you like to give to your audience

Mind Maps/Brainstorms Here areall their kind of posters which you can see all look very similar with the way that they look. You can see they have used the same fonts so this is something that I will need to ask my client so that I am able to use in my own work as well so that I am able to stay very similar. I feel like I would use my won style at the same time as well. So I feel like more with colours I would use the red that they have used on their logo. As when looking at the other posters you can see that depending on what the logo is they have then used that colour for some of their text. I feel like getting these and seeing what my client has already does help with me trying to make a poster for them on the opening of another part of their business and I have gotten them to send me anything that I may need and I am also able to look at their website and any social media for anything else that I may need. This can be information or even photographs. But since it is a local company I am able to go down and take any photographs that I feel I may need if I may need anymore. But also able to go to a local event that they will be at in a few weeks and take some photographs then as well if this is something that I feel would help me with my work more. But the fact that they are local is something that is really helpful as I am able to go down and ask questions or anything that I may need to know. So its easier to get information.

Here is somemore of their things that they have sent me for incase it is something that I may need to use. As you can see they have used the same background and all of these apart from the fact they have used different colours for each of their different beers. I feel like in a way these are things that I would like to add in to my work that I do for them. As these are some of the labels from some of the beers that they make but I feel like I will really need to work on how it is that I could add them in to my work. As they of course do make other beers then these so I feel like if I was to add them then I feel like it would need some thinking as they are all very bright and I wouldn't want them to clash. But I also need to think about my audience and who it is that I am trying to target. I then have the logo as well and the title that I will need to use for my poster as this is what I am trying to show off. I think when using this on my poster I wont need to add the logo as well as you already have the logo twice in the title so I think if I was to add it another time then it would be a little bit too much. But I feel like this is my main focus and from here I am able to see what it is that I would like to add to my poster and the road that I go down when making it.

Idea 1 When readingthe brief they had said that they were wanting something simple so the first idea that came up with was just a simple white background and then using logo. Which then from the logo I decided to use them colours for the text as well so that I could tie it all together. As I didn't want to personally keep the poster just black and white so I thought by adding the colour to it, it made it more eye-catching. What do you like about the idea? I like this idea because I do believe that it eye catching if I was to carry on with the colour idea as I think especially against the white background it makes the text and logo stand out a lot which I do see as a good thing as it is everything that is important to the poster. Does it match what the client wants? I believe it does match what my client wanted as they never specifically told me what it was they wanted in detail. From the brief what I knew was that they wanted was a poster to tell people when their venue was opening. But gave me the freedom of how to design it but because of this I was going to send an email of my fist design to see what they thought so that I'm able to get more of an idea of what they would like. Are you capable of delivering this? I believe that I am capable of delivering this as I feel with the freedom I have and from their guidance through out I will be able to make a poster that we do both like. As I still want to make a design that I myself like too and not just my client. So I feel this type of design is simple and should be easy to make and finish. Can you do this on time? I do think that I will be able to finish my production on time as what I do have planned isn't too hard and the posters will have a simple look to them. I feel like the hardest thing that could take time is finding out the final design as I feel like I will be making multiple designs till I find the right one. Which when I do even then I will make more then one as well. Do you have the resources available to do this? For this I do have the resources available as if I would like to I am able to use my own camera to go take photographs of the actual place if this is something I end up needing. But apart from that I have everything at college where I am able to use Photoshop to actually make the posters.

Idea 2 Thisis my second kind of design idea and as you can see it is very similar to my other idea. But with this one I decided to use more of a darker background which this colour I still got from the logo as I felt like black was a little too harsh. I then went along with using the logo for the text colour which I think for this aspect it doesn't stand out as much. Then another idea I had was to use the emoji banner as well. What do you like about the idea? There's only a few things that I do like about this and I think that is mainly the colour scheme I have decided upon as I do like the black background but I do feel like with this it doesn't stand out as much as the white but I do prefer it. Does it match what the client wants? I think it will match what my client would like as like I've said they haven't specifically said what it is that they would like. So what I will do is finish making the poster and then email it to them so that they are able to give me any kind of feedback of what they like and what it is they don’t like as much. As this way I'm able to know what to change and what to keep. Are you capable of delivering this? I believe I am capable of delivering this as it is just a simple poster design. As I don’t want to put too much on it as I feel this will take away from the important aspects of the poster. So I feel like if I keep it very simple with maybe some kind of graphic design aspect to it this could work. As I feel like I need to get the text across more since it is about opening a venue and not about who the business is. Can you do this on time? I feel like this is something I will be able to do in time my only problem is that I know this isn't going to my final design and I feel like this is what will take up the most of my time. Is figuring out and make more posters till I can find one I know will work. Do you have the resources available to do this? Yes I do as I have a camera to take photographs if I need too and then I have Photoshop at college to make the actual poster.

Idea Evaluation I thinkwith my ideas I will be developing them both further as with my work I don’t plan to just make one thing and then send it to my client. I would like to start off where I will make a few different posters and this will also be with different looks and colour schemes. As I don’t feel like straight away I will find the right poster design that I like. So I will start off making some and then I will ask my client what it is they think of the ones that I have made so far as this way I am involving them. As with my client when it came down to it on the brief they did give me a lot of freedom of how I would like to make the posters as they didn't have anything they would really like to see apart from the important details on to the poster so other then that I had choice of colour scheme where I could put things on the poster but also the overall design. So I knew that I fi made some designs I would be able to then email them and try and get as much feedback as possible as this way I would be able to move forward and find the right design. Which I know will work as with my client as well they do reply fast meaning that by doing this it wont take much time either. But I feel like it is easier to do this then to ask my client what it is they would like to see more. As I do like the freedom that have with this project but I would still like to involve my client in the work I am doing so they can see my vision as well. When looking at my ideas you can see how I have used different colours and even though they are all different they do have elements that are the same. This is mainly because I have found some things that I like the look of so when trying them on different poster looks I am able to see what does work and if the idea I like doesn't a much as I thought with other poster ideas. One thing I found that I did like was the emoji banner but this I have had a difficult time with as at first I made it too big and it kind of over powered the venue name. Yet when making it smaller I still think it took all the attention away from the important details so even though this was something I liked I will have to get rid of it but when I developed my ideas more I may come back to it to see if at all I can get it working. Another aspect that I am going to work upon is the fact that I have got different colour schemes but I think that I want to play more with the black, whites and grey as I feel like these work really well with the logo they have going on as it doesn't take the attention away like other colours would. But if I was to add colour into my poster designs I would use the colours that where already in the logo as this way I know that the colours would go with the logo and wouldn't be over powering.

Developed Idea 1Here I have then developed my ideas more into finished posters. But as you can see I have changed them a little from where my first idea was going and these are very similar posters but they do have their differences. As I first started off with more of a colour look for my fonts but I then changed it to more of a black and white as I felt this stranded out a lot more and would catch peoples eye. With my first design I've kept it very simple but by doing this I feel like the poster is missing something as the poster itself does have a lot of negative space within it. Where as when you look at the second one you can see that the space is more filled and there is less negative space then the first one. I do like some aspects of these posters for example I like the colour scheme of it being black and white. There are a few aspects of the posters that I am not too keen on. For example I think on the second poster the emoji board it too much. As I feel like its too distracting and it takes your focus away from the actual name of the venue. I'm also not a massive fan of the actual photograph that I took on the poster as I think it doesn't fit in with the style as much and this is something that I don’t think I will include on to the poster as I know when I was making this poster I did try a few different photographs and found that none of them really worked. But I think this is a design I would show my client to see what they think so that I can get some feedback of what they like about the poster and what they would like me to change. As I already have a few ideas of what I think I could change and what I could add to make the posters a little better. I know one thing that I could change is the emoji banner as when looking at that I think it takes away from the venue name. You then have the photograph that I added to the second poster this is something else that I don’t think works. I then don’t think that overall the design is the best especially where I have placed things I think some fo the words could do to be bigger to really get your attention.

Developed Idea 2 Asyou can see with these designs they are really different from the others as I decided I wanted to go more with the route of using more colours which I got from the logo as I feel like if I used any other kid of colours they would clash and not work as well. Which when looking at this designs I feel like the red doesn't go as well and I feel like it is something people will have trouble reading. I think the brown colour does work but when you look at is with the emoji banner I think the emoji banner does over power everything else on the poster especially with it being that big so when I move forward I think this is something I plan to get rid of as when you look at it cut down as well. I feel like it still just doesn't work and this is something I think I will get rid of and work on a different kind of design as its not something that my client I asked to be on my poster so I am able to just get rid of it. When looking back at the first poster as well one thing I'm not too keen on is the bottom part where I have the chunk of writing a a poster I don’t think people will really stand there and read it all. So I think I need to work on that and making it shorter as with a poster what I need is the important information people can read straight away. With the second poster there are a few things I don’t like as well. I do think this is a better design compared to the first one though as I feel like it gets to the point more of what the poster is trying to advertise and you are able to see clearly when it is but even then because of how close the other text is I feel like when it opens I could make that a little bigger so that you are able to really read it and that it what catches your eye first. As you can see with this poster I did add a photograph again which when looking at this design I do think that this is something that still doesn't go and I don’t think for my final poster or for any more of my development posters I will be adding photographs.

Assessment of finalideas Suitable for audience? I feel like so far my design ideas are suitable for my audience but I do think that they could use some work as I am targeting an older audience then I am used too so I need to be able to make sure that I really think about the colour schemes I am using will be clear for them to read and see. As when working with younger audience your able to use more colours where as for an older audience I think it is more suitable to use more of dull colours that will be easy to read or your normal white and black contrast. Suitability for client? Yes my idea does fulfil what my client has asked for and mentioned in the brief, even though in the brief they haven't mentioned much and I do have a lot of freedom in the aspect of the design in the poster I will still make sure to keep in touch with them of the designs I come up with as this way they are able to have input through out of what they like or don’t like too much with what I design. But this way I am able to make sure my design is suitable for my client as well. Appeal of the work: I feel like when I start to improve on my poster more there will be more of appeal but for now I feel like they are still just ideas and nothing close to what I personally would like for my final posters. As I feel like it would be great if my work appealed to both me and my client as this way I know I am able to appeal to different age ranges and hopefully maybe bring them a younger aspect to their venue as well as their normal target audience. Timescales for production: I feel like my project is do able I will need to make sure I work extra hard so that I am able to catch up with the week that I have missed due to my other client. But I feel like I will be able to get the production done quicker then I expect if I really start to think about the ideas and develop them more. Costs: My project wont cost anything as the client that I have picked is in my village so it is within walking distance so I wont need to pay for any transport. The only transport I may need to pay for is if I decide that I want to have a look at where the venue will be that my client would like the poster for but I don’t think this is something that I will be doing. I then wont have the cost to take any photographs as I do have my own camera or I am able to use one from college and I am able to use Photoshop at college to make my posters as well so this is something else I wont have to pay for. SO overall I don’t have any costs for my project. Personnel: It will be just me making my project. As I wont need anyone else as I will be taking the photographs if need be and then making the posters. I don’t need anything like models or even anyone else taking photographs for me either. I mean I may take advice from other people of the photographs that I could take but I will not be depending on anyone else or need anyone else for my project.

Assessment of finalideas Legal and ethical issues: I could be taking photographs of my clients company in case I will need to use photographs or my poster as by doing this I can show people more of what my client is like. But I will need to make sure that I get permission to take photographs around the building where they brew. Also depending what I take photographs off I may have to ask permission to also have my client in some of the photographs and make sure that this is something they are ok about before I take any photographs or even think about using any. I will also need to be careful with any of the fonts that my client would like me to use and make sure that none of them are copyrighted. As I will be asking my client what fonts they use already and any they may just like the look of for me to use for my poster. I wont have any issue with any of the things they send me to add to the poster as I will already have their permission but I will need to make sure that if I take anything of their social media or website for any reason that I do have their permission to use them too.

Competition & MarketWhen looking at other brewery's local I found the Jolly Sailor, they are very similar in the fact that they are a family run business in the local area . They then deliver their beers to local pubs and go to markets which is the same as The Little Black Dog. One thing I have found so far that is different is first the layout of their websites and the way they go about it but also their social media a little bit. When looking at their website you can see that it lacks a lot of colour and can be seen as quiet dull. As on the home page the only main colour that you do have is from the logo in the left hand corner. They also have a little bit of information about who they are when you are on the home page but other then this it isn't something that they do focus on. Where as when you look at the Little Black Dogs website you can see that it is more bright and overall I think the layout has been done better. As you will find that when you read the little bit of information it is a lot more personal and even how they’ve ended it they’ve added all their names so that you can really get to know the people that are making the beer. When comparing the both with how they look overall you can see how the Little Black Dog looks more inviting As you can see that at the top they have both used their logo and then have the tabs so that you can find out other things. But I like how with the Little Black Dog they have put their logo in the middle of the page as this is different to a lot of websites you will see as like the Jolly Sailor the majority of the time you will notice that the logo is in the left hand corner. You then have the fact that the Little Black Dog have got more personal tabs as you have one where you can find out about the people you are buying beer from which is what I think makes their brewery a lot more personal from the other as with the other you have no way of knowing who the people are making the beer. Even though you can see that they both have used a very similar colour scheme with the fact they use neutral colours you can see how the Little Black Dog have then paired that with some bright cartoon style pictures and then they have a lot of white around the edge and where they have the writing which then brightens it up a lot more as well. Which I think is a massive difference between the two. When looking at the two designs as well you can see that they have used imagery. When looking at the Jolly Sailor they have used a simple photograph to the side of what their brewery place looks inside. Where as the Little Black Dog have used a bigger photograph and even then they have used multiple. Even though they are just of beer they really do brighten the page up a lot more as well.

Competition & Market Hereare the labels from some of the labels they sell. As you can see they both have a very different design. With the Little Black Dog they focus more on a traditional modern hipster look where as the Jolly Sailor focus more on a old style kind of look. I think they both have great designs and they really stand out and go well with what their company is. But you are able to see how they are great competition for each other. In the local area you have a lot of brewers so you can see that there is a massive competition and also market for it. When I researched into I found the top 3 in the local area, Goole, Carlton and Snaith. This way I am able to look at things like the logos and colours they use. As already when looking at the beer labels I have got you are able to see the different approaches they use and how they go with the companies they are from. When looking on google at these brewers you can see that Little Black Dog and The Jolly Sailor both have 5 stars where as the Old Mill Brewery falls behind a little with 4. Hence why you can see that these two other brewers in the local area are competition for my client since they are so close together. When looking at the labels and logos you can see that they all have their own style but Little Black dog and Jolly Sailor both have more brighter labels and logos. Which really stand out and I think they really go well with their companies where as when you look at the logo for Old Mill you can see that compared to the others it is a lot more dull and not as eye catching but this can because out of all 3 this is the oldest so it has already been able to build up an audience that will not need to rely on things like the logo to draw them as they already trust the company where as the other two are still quiet new so they are still trying to catch peoples attention.

Audience/Customer research: When lookingon social media like Facebook I am able to see how well my client do appeal to their audience. All 15 reviews that they do have are all 5 stars so they really do appeal to their customers and what it is they are after. You will also find that with every review they get on their social media they make sure that they are replying. This can help with really connecting with your audience and appealing to them a lot more. They don’t reply with a simple thank you either, they make sure that it is a little bit more personal. With the fact they say that they loved having the people their and that they cant wait to see them again. Which shows good customer service. Especially for the audience they do appeal to this is something that is especially important. For my target audience I wouldn't’t say it would be anyone specific. As it is for anyone who likes beer and coffee, since these are the two things they are bringing together for their opening. I think one thing I would say is that they are wanting to target more of an older audience. This is why they will be closing at 9pm as they are not targeting for a younger audience especially since their location is Selby and this is somewhere, where a lot of youngsters are out late and will cause trouble. In my opinion I think that their target audience is people at the age of 25 and older. But it is anyone who is above the age of 18 and has a keen interest into different beers. As this company offers a very diverse range of beers. As they have their regulars but they also do a lot of limited edition beers as well. You then have the fact that they have their own brew your own beers as well so that you are able to get the experience and learn more about it. Their beers aren't expensive either so I would say that it is also for the middle class. As they also do a few events and their most recent one was at Carlton Towers for the Royal Wedding.

Content research: When researchingabout my client I had a lot that I was able to look at to really get an idea of who they are and what posters I felt would best suite their style but while still making sure they were different. I was able to first look at their social media as this way I was able to see how they communicate with their audience which upon research I was bale to see that this is something they do well and they really like to involve their audience in everything they do for example like the brewery days they do where you and friends are able to brew your own beer. But they make sure to update their social media regularly so their audience is always in the loop of what new things they may be up too or even what events they be next at. This was both Facebook and Instagram that I looked at. Which looking at these helps as the poster I am making they also wanted to make sure that they could put these on their social media as well. So by researching I was able to see what would really go with their social media and everything they have posted so far. Next I had a look at their website as well which is very friendly upon seeing. You also really get that family feel when looking as they really like to involve their audience as they have page where they tell you a bit about each one of them. But when looking at all these things I could see they had a common theme of colours running through them all which is something I would like to stay away from a little but just incase I will make posters with these colours in case this is something that y client would like. As when reading the brief they have given me they haven't said anything about what colours they would like to see on their posters. So I feel like if I use the colours they have running through their media and then use your normal kind of black, white and grey I keep the poster looking clean. But I want to make sure that I still give people that friendly and family feel from my posters so that I am able to really represent what my client do.

Treatment What I intendto make for you is a range of posters, by making a range I am able to get your input as well to what it is you like out of the ones I have made for you. As this way you as the client can either choose to use the one poster or all the posters that I have made for you. As I intend to at least make 4 posters for you to choose from they will all have the same design but the difference between all 4 of them will be the colour scheme as with people you can never be sure what they are able to read clearly so by having the different colour schemes you know that people will be able to read at least one of them. What I first plan to do is start with one or two ideas, which I then will start to develop more as this way I will be able to finally get to the right design. By doing this I am able to still make sure that you as my client will stay in the loop and I know of all the different ideas I have come up with and the idea developments as well. This way I still have the freedom that you have given me to design the poster but I am still able to make sure that my ideas will appeal to you and you are able to help more with what works and doesn't work as well. After I have made the poster designs I will then go on to making the social media posters as well. It will be easier to make these after wards as I will be able to see what works on these from the print out posters. As since I will be making them smaller not everything might work hence why I will do them after the print out posters. What I would like to do when making the poster is have the main focus on the venue logo as this is what I would like people to see first. So I feel like if I put this in the middle of the poster people will see it straight away and then after wards look at all the information that is important. For example I feel like if I put when it opens at the top this is what people will look at next after the venue name. I have been thinking of colour schemes and I think what would be best for the poster is if I take inspiration from your logo of what colours I decide to use as one thing I don’t want to do is to have the colours I use clash with your logo as I feel like this would be very distracting to your audience. Then when looking at the photographs I took I feel like these are things that I can include into the posters in some way so that people are able to get a real feel of your company and what it is you like to give to your audience
