This document proposes constructing a rooftop resting area on an unused balcony at Block E, Level 2 of the campus. A site analysis found the space receives sunlight after 11AM and has low noise. The concept is to transform the concrete space into a relaxing natural environment with landscaping, seating, and a corridor allowing socialization. Justification cites utilizing the unused space and addressing the heat issue. The proposal includes cost estimates for materials, construction, and maintenance totaling over RM200,000. The conclusion is that the design would provide a comfortable space for users while requiring ongoing maintenance costs.

INTRODUCTION
In this project, students have to work in a group of 2 peoples and find a
within 30m×30m site in the campus and propose a small construction project.
To do this, students have to study types of building development which
include suggestion, rationale, benefits, site analysis, evaluation and the needs of the
project to the client and to the community.
For our group, we are required to propose a project that is for resting
purpose and our site is located at Block E Level 2 balcony. We decided to propose it
as a rooftop resting area which is consider as an on-site reconstruction.

SITE ANALYSIS
Our site is located at Block E, Level 2 balcony. The reason why we choose this
site is because the site is quite empty and is a large piece of concrete which it is an
unused place.

Sunlight
At the site, the sun is not directly visible until at least 11AM in the morning because
it blocked by the Block E building. After that, the sun travels in a parabolic arc until it
ends at sundown.
Wind direction
The wind flows in different direction towards the site. The wind flows stronger in
Level 2 compared to Level 1.
Sound
There is a noise of air conditioning compressors which located on the top of the
toilet windows. The site has low human noise.
Circulation
The site can be easily accessed. There is no specific circulation of peoples because
there’s nothing can attract people to go there. You can go to the site via the stairs
(from Block E Level 3 and Block E Level 1), the lifts (From all levels of Block E), the
Divisional Office of Education, and the Divisional Office of Business and Law and the
central avenue that connects Block B, C, D and E.

CONCEPT
The aim of our site is to change the uninteresting and concrete environment
to an otherwise friendly and relaxation. The design makes our site become an unique
and relaxation place that is suitable to rest.
The design is to focus on closeness: bringing people together in unity with the
natural elements. People would be drawn together by this unique planning that
allows and encourages closure, intimacy and fellowship.
The design will bring peoples into a friendly, natural environment. Much
thought has gone into the planning of both the hardscape and soft scape, integrating
as much natural elements as possible while simultaneously introducing new, non-
interfering yet beneficial artificial ingredients into the mix, resulting in the creation
of a natural and non-polluted landscape for relaxation. For some peoples, it is a
place where they can have a little time of break and escape from the busy schedule.
The design brings people closer to one another. The design of our site allows
people to get together to have a close, meaningful relationship with each other
while still having own privacy. They can have friends meeting, entertainment, work-
related discussion, a stress-relieving retreat or even an intimate for couples.
The unity of both natural and built elements have a soft wonderful space,
where the fusion of natural and built structures match each other excellently. People
will not find a big contrast of elements in here.

Concept: Rooms are provided for activities such as resting, gathering and etc.

JUSTIFICATION
The reason why we choose Block E, Level 2 balcony as our site is because it is
a large piece of land which enables us to do (build) whatever we want. We should
utilize the place by building useful facilities on that. Before we utilize the site as a
resting area, we must solute the heat problem which is the major problem of the site.
Green plants can be planted in our site if we want the site to be sustainable.
If not, we can also use air conditioner in our site which will make the site cool faster
than using green plants. Of course, green plants are needed in the site to create
greenery, relaxing and resting place.

CONCLUSION
The design will give out a comfortable and relaxing feel to every of us.
By construct our design in our site, the users get a lot of benefits. First at all,
they can have more place to choose for them besides the library and other open
spaces. Secondary, the unused concrete land is now turned into a useful and
interesting place so that we are really utilize every facilities of school.
Although it is useful to us, but the management has to put a lot of effort to
maintain the whole design which will cost much money.
