On-premises, consumption-based private cloud creates opportunity for enterpri...Stanton Jones
The document discusses a new "on-premises, consumption-based private cloud" (OPCB) model for data storage that combines the benefits of public and private clouds. It provides flexibility and cost savings like public clouds through usage-based pricing, but with the security, control and data sovereignty of private clouds by hosting the infrastructure on-site. The OPCB model addresses enterprises' needs to reduce costs while the pace of data growth prevents waiting for public cloud issues to be resolved. It evaluates this model for customers who value data sovereignty and flexibility without full operational control of traditional private clouds.

The overwhelming challenges of IT infrastructure managementNIIT Technologies
CIOs are now looking at IT infrastructure management as a mean to drive business transformation. To transform the way businesses work, CIOs need responsive systems and processes to bridge the gap between operations and business. With this understanding, IT leaders need to align IT with business and manage IT infrastructure as a service model. This paper surveys the challenges service providers face in managing IT infrastructures. It also lists down solutions for the effective management of IT infrastructures.
It one conf it costs chargeback 2008_04_22Laurent Remmy
The document discusses best practices for managing and allocating IT costs through chargeback models. It recommends identifying all IT costs, dividing them into cost centers, and then allocating costs to business units based on chargeback keys tied to IT resource usage. A practical example is provided that showed how a company improved cost transparency and reduced IT expenditures by 37% by implementing these practices.
UPS uses a complex package tracking system involving inputs like package details, signatures, locations and billing data. This data is processed by transmitting it to central computers for storage and organization so packages can be tracked by various criteria. Outputs include delivery times, locations and reports for customers and management. The system provides value by reducing paperwork, saving fuel costs, monitoring deliveries, and enabling easy customer inquiries. It helps solve routing problems and allows UPS to compete effectively through efficient tracking of packages. Without this system, UPS would struggle to compete as the largest package delivery company.

This document presents a framework for estimating the value of cloud computing compared to conventional IT solutions. The framework consists of four main steps: (1) defining the business scenario including objectives, demand behavior, and technical requirements; (2) calculating the costs of fulfilling the scenario using cloud computing; (3) calculating the costs of using a reference IT solution; and (4) comparing the total costs of both approaches to estimate the value of cloud computing for that scenario. The document also provides two examples that illustrate how real-world use cases can be analyzed using this framework.
Capgemini ses - smart grid operational services- utility mobile it adoption...Gord Reynolds
The document discusses the benefits and reasons for utility companies to adopt mobile solutions. Key points:
1) Utility companies face challenges like aging infrastructure, workforce, and stricter regulations, which increases the need for mobile technologies to improve productivity, decision making, and operational efficiency.
2) Mobile technologies allow field workers to access enterprise systems remotely, complete tasks faster, and exchange information in real-time, reducing costs and cycle times.
3) Implementing mobile solutions can streamline operations, improve asset management, customer service, and employee satisfaction for utility companies. Selecting the right mobile applications tailored to their industry needs allows utilities to address challenges and maximize their existing investments in back-end systems.
Recently, organizations have shown more interest in cloud computing because of the many advantages they provide (cost savings, storage capacity, scalability, and speed of loading). Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are one of the most important systems that have been upgraded to cloud computing. In this thesis, we focus on cloud ERP interoperability, which is an important challenge in cloud ERP. Interoperability is the ability of different components to work in independent clouds with no or minimum user effort. More than 20% of the risk rate of cloud adoption is caused by interoperability. Thus, we propose web services as a solution for cloud ERP interoperability. The proposed solution increases interoperability between different cloud service providers and between cloud ERP systems with other applications in a company.

The emergence of social, mobile, cloud, big data and analytics are fundamentally changing how we live, work and interact.
Mobile devices are ubiquitous. Changing consumer behaviors, supplanting PCs, generating massive amounts of data and putting new demands on the enterprise to not only support these devices but to adjust the way they do business.
Social technologies are changing the way we interact, communicate and share information – equally generating vast amounts of data and impacting business as they try to unlock the full potential social has to offer.
Cloud technologies bring new scale and efficiency to service delivery and enable more agile ways of doing business and drive business model innovation. For companies, It also brings information and applications to people at the right time and place.
All of these trends are fueling an explosion of data. Not only do enterprises need to store, manage and secure this data, they also need to derive meaningful insight from these vast amounts of data. Data is the basis of significant opportunity and a source of competitive advantage for all organizations. Data is a new economic asset, the next natural resource.
These trends are spawning new workloads, business processes and technology deployments that are putting unprecedented demands on our IT environments.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
