Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Essay
Introduction:Medical malpractice lawsuits are an extremely serious topic and have affected
numerous patients, doctors, and hospitals across the country. Medical malpractice is defined as
improper, unskilled or negligent treatment of a patient by a physician, dentist, nurse, pharmacist, or
other health care professional (Medical malpractice, n.d.). If a doctor acts negligent and causes
harm to a patient, malpractice lawsuits arise. Negligence is the concept of the liability concerning
claims of medical malpractice, making this type of litigation part of tort law. Tort law provides
that one person may litigate negligence to recover damages for personal injury. Negligence laws
are designed to deter careless behavior and also to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic Requirements for a Claim: In order to claim that a doctor or hospital was negligent in a
medical malpractice case, there must be specific requirements present. First off a doctor patient
relationship must have existed (Boeschen, 2014). An individual making the claim must show
that there was a physician patient relationship with the doctor being sued. This means the doctor
was hired and agreed to be hired for the medical care provided. If a doctor began seeing you and
treating you, it is easy to prove a physician patient relationship existed. Second the plaintiff must
show the doctor was negligent. Regardless of if the patient is unhappy with their treatment or
results, does not determine the doctor is liable for medical malpractice. The doctor must have
been negligent not reasonably skillful and careful in a diagnosis or treatment (Boeschen, 2014).
To sue for malpractice, you must be able to show that the doctor caused you harm in a way that a
competent doctor, under the same circumstances would not have (Boeschen, 2014). In many
cases, the doctor s care is not required to be the best possible, but simply reasonably skillful and
careful (Boeschen, 2014). Whether or not the doctor was reasonably skillful and careful is often up
to the medical malpractice claim. Another basic requirement of a medical malpractice claim is
whether or not the doctor s negligence caused the injury. Many malpractice cases involve patients
that were already

The Cut Short Story

The Cut
It was a Friday, I hopped off the bus and sprinted home as fast as I could to pack my clothes in
my suitcase. I regretted procrastinating the night before, because my mom would be home any
minute to leave for Oklahoma. I grabbed my suitcase and flung it carelessly on my bed. I was so
excited for my basketball tournament that I stood on my bed and began packing quickly.
Suddenly i remembered that I left a shirt in the laundry room. I stepped down from my bed and
felt something cut through my toe like butter. I looked down and saw a big piece of glass with
blood dripping down the side.
Immediately I knew what happened. With my quick thinking, I grabbed my cell phone and I
hopped into the bathroom. Trying my best not to get blood on the clean carpet. I sat on the edge of
the bathtub and turned on the water. While the water washed the fresh blood, I called my dad on
my phone. I heard his thunderous footsteps coming down the hallway. He swung open the door and
wrapped my foot in a towel.
He helped me into the car as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Except this time it felt colder and had a different atmosphere. You could hear the roaring of
machines but at the same time there was an ominous silence to it. I sat alone with my thoughts
until they were broken by the sound of my name. They helped me inside and looked at my foot
once more. Instantly they decided that I would need stitches. That was what I figured from the
very beginning, but still dreaded the idea. Right before they began the stitches they looked once
more and realized the cut wasn t deep enough for something as drastic as stitches. They simply
decided to use skin glue instead. They glued the skin back together with much less pain and effort
that stitches could have caused. I walked out with my cautiously trying not to break the glue
because I never wanted to walk back into that place ever

Database Modeling, System Design, And Improve Performance
MODELING
As databases and technology have evolved, Elmasri and Navathe point out that increasingly
complex data structures for modeling to meet the needs of the more advanced and larger databases
that were also beginning to include newer data types (2016). As stated before, with more complex
databases, there are more vulnerabilities in security that need to be planned for and mitigated
wherever possible. A DBMS is responsible for designing the methods in which data recovery and
security is handled, while tools are used within database modeling that facilitate modeling, system
design, and improve performance (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). When applying these tools to database
creation, security should always be considered in each step of modeling and creating the database.
The DBMS provides a security and authorization subsystem to the DBA so that they can use it to
create accounts and specify account restrictions (Elmasri Navathe, 2016).
AGGREGATION AND INFERENCE
Aggregation occurs when a user combines individual pieces of data that they have access to in
order to infer more of the bigger picture which they do not have access to, which can happen when
a user only has access to some records but draws enough information from the ones they do have
access to in order to figure out information that has been deemed off limits to them (Harris, 2002).
This is, of course, a potential security risk which should be corrected. On the other hand, knowledge
representation techniques,

Kindertransport Research Paper
The Kindertransport was a series of transports from Nazi Germany to Great Britain that lasted
from 1938 to 1940. The Kindertransport was able to save over 10,000 jewish childrens lives
from the harshness of the Holocaust. The jewish children left their families and traveled to Great
Britain where they were placed with foster families or in group homes. There were many ways
that the children were transported. Also, there were many other outside forces that allowed for the
kindertransport to happen. After the children were brought to Great Britain, they lived many
different lives. Through the help of British Parliament and the forces of their allies, the
Kindertransport was able to save the lives of many children, whom otherwise could have died
during the Holocaust. Before the Holocaust had even begun, forces were working against the Nazi
s to help aid the Jewish people. Many jewish people were stranded in Nazi Germanybecause there
were not many countries willing to offer them refuge. The United States president of the time,
Franklin Roosevelt, proposed that a conference should be held to discuss what action should be
taken. In 1938, representitives from 32 countries in the surrounding area of Germany... Show more

Arthrogram Summary
According to WebMD, an Arthrogram is a radiographic examination of a joint, such as a knee,
shoulder, hip, ankle or wrist. It is used to obtain a series of pictures by using special kinds of
radiographic imaging like fluoroscopy, MRI, CT and contrast. Contrast material is a dye that is
injected into the patient and helps the doctor see the soft tissue structures of that jointsuch as
tendons, ligaments, muscles, cartilage and joint capsule (Healthwise Staff, 2014, p. 1).Contrast is
either injected directly into the joint or indirectly where the dye is injected into the bloodstream
and absorbs into the joint. Without contrast these structures would not be seen on a regular
radiographic image. The article also states that Fluoroscopy helps take... Show more content on

Arthrograms can indicate tears, degeneration or disease in joints, ligaments, cartilage or bones in
the joint. It can also help find problems with the rotator cuff, such as tears. The exam can be used
to find abnormal growths or fluid filled cysts. Arthrograms are used to confirm the correct
placement of a needle for fluid analysis. Fluid analysis is a test in which joint fluid is removed
with a thin needle. Along with guiding needles for fluid analysis, arthrograms are also used to

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Family
Human papillomavirus (HPV) family is a subset of viruses characterized by their double
stranded circular DNA in which the capsid is icosahedral. About 150 HPV types have been
isolated and entirely sequenced. According to the homologous nucleotide sequence of the major
capsid protein (L1), the HPV types are categorized into different genera namely: Alpha genus,
beta genus, gamma, mu, and nu in addition to HPV types with a skin tropism that appears to be
linked with the growth of benign cutaneous lesions. There are approximately 30 HPV types
included in the alpha genus which characterized by their ability to infect the mucosa of the
genital and oral tract as well as several benign cutaneous HPV types that are associated with the
development of common skin warts. The (alpha) HPV types are divided according to their
oncogenic potential into two groups: low risk(LR) HPVs (e.g. types 6 and 11) and high risk
(HR) HPVs. The former group is mainly associated with benign genital warts and the latter
group contains viruses considered to be the etiological agents of cervical as well as head and neck
cancers. Dozen of different HR HPV types: 16, 18,31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, and 59 were
categorized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as carcinogenic to humans.
The genomic organization of all HPV family members is typical, with 8 or 9 open reading frames
(ORFs) found on the same DNA strand. The HPV genome can be divided into three different
regions: (1) a

Many Beliefs Influence Our Lives Today
Many beliefs influence our lives today. In fact one of the most well known movie series today,
was influenced by a belief, called Norse Mythology. That movie series is Lord of the Rings! Many
of the main characters and items come from Norse mythology. Such as, the elves, the enchanted
rings, the dwarves, and other realms. Most people only know one or two deities from Norse
Mythology, like Thor and Loki. While most people in the world are more familiar with the beliefs
of the Ancient Greeks, Norse Mythology is one of the most overlooked, interesting, and diverse
forms of mythology in the world. Norse Mythology was started by the vikings and carried across
the world by them. The earliest known accounts of Norse Mythology came from... Show more

There are many deities/figures in Norse mythology. Such as, giants, gods, supernaturals, and
humans. One of the most important figures is Ymir. He was a brutal frost giant, created out of
ice. He created every giant, who later created the gods. Two kings of the giants are Thrym and
Skymir. Thrym is king of the frost giants. He is most famously known for using Mjolnir, Thor s
hammer as ransom for the goddess, Freyja. Skymir is the king of Jotunheim. He is known for
being an illusionist, and tricking Thor. Most people only know one or two figures of Norse
mythology. Even though there are so many more. Like, Buri the 1st god created. He is the father of
Bor, and grandfather of Odin. He is said to have come into the worlds, by the cow Audhumla. She is
said to have licked him free from inside a block of ice. There is no known accounts of who his wife
is. Odin is the son of Bor and Bestla and ruler of Asgard. His is god of all wisdom and only has one
eye. He gouged out the other one. His wife s name is Frigg. Frigg is an Aesir goddess and wife of
Odin. She is the mother of Balder and hold, Queen of Asgard, and goddess of foreknowledge. Thor

Essay on History of the Democratic Republic of Congo
Prior to 1960, Belgium and their King, Leopold ruled the Congo region. They held great interests in
the rubber industry and created harsh labor camps that exploited the people. That is why after
gaining independence in 1960, the nation then known as Zaire plunged into chaos. Military unrest
coupled with oppressive warlord throughout the region made it a very unstable state, ready to
collapse. Nowadays, U.N. peacekeeping forces hold posts in the nation to maintain its stability. The
United States has had foreign relations with the country from 1960 and has signed many treaties to
help promote growth in the region. One such document is the Peace, Security and Cooperation

That is another reason why U.S. economic involvement in the DRC is seen as very important,
because it produces stability in the region, leading into the next point. As stated at the end of the
last paragraph, the U.S. must prevent more military destabilization in the region through both
military and economic means. The early mission statement of the United States Africa Command
states that the West s long term strategic interests in Africa are clear: we must thwart the growth
of terrorism and transnational crime; we must prevent destabilizing mass migrations; and we
must maintain secure trade links. Through military invention and economic aid, both the DRC
and other nations in Africa as well as the United States will benefit with increased national
security. In 2001, the UN blamed the various factions that fought a brutal five year war in the
DRC for deliberately extending the conflict in order to plunder the country s extensive supplies
of gold, diamonds, and timber (World Geography). Through the Peace, Security and Cooperation
framework the U.S. is able to maintain a Special Envoy for the Great Lakes and the DRC to
prevent further exploitation of resources. The Envoy has a main goal of locating and destroying
the main root cause of instability in the region. In other economic terms, A UN agency said it
needed close to 7.5 million U.S. dollars to continue offering

What Was The Impact Of The Bus Boycott
The Bus Boycott of 1955 1956 was a U.S Civil Rights movement that took place in Montgomery,
Alabama. African Americans all over Montgomery refused to ride the city bus to demonstrate a
peaceful protest against racial segregation. Four days before the protest, an African American
women, Rosa Park, refused to leave her seat on the busfor a white man. This led to her arrest and
finement; this triggered the boycott to begin. This event was one of the many Civil Rights
movement. This caused many important figures to become involved, such as Martin Luther King

their rights instead of living in fear and silence. The Bus Boycott of Montgomery, Alabama (1955

The main objective and goals for the black to accomplish from the protest are to receive well and
respected treatment by the bus operators and its riders. Also, that riders are free to sit as
anywhere as they like on a first come, first served standard. They wanted the blacks to be able to
be seated from the back toward the front of the bus and vise versa for the whites. Finally, they
demanded that Negro bus operators were employed on mainly Negro routes. Throughout the
protest, their main focus shifted to abolishing segregation altogether. King made this pretty clear
during his speech he once gave called I Have A Dream. during 1963. one day right there in
Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and
white girls as sisters and brothers. (King). Throughout this process, the blacks did face a lot of
negative effects. Many African Americans boycotters and riders were shot throughout this event.
Many were found dead in mainly dark areas and alleys of the city. Violence went on with bombing
and murder. African Americanchurches were bombed as a threat towards Black boycotters. Ralph

The Problem Of Conflict Mineral
While the term conflict mineral can be used to refer to any mineral resource being exploited by a
belligerent faction in order to perpetuate hostilities, it is most commonly associated with columbite
tantalite, cassiterite, wolframite, and gold ore, collectively known as 3TG minerals.i These ores,
used to produce tantalum, tin, tungsten and gold, respectively, comprise a multi billion dollar
market fueled by the growing demand for electronics and other products related to the technology
industry. The 3TG group is essentially vital in every modern electronic device: phones, computers,
pacemakers, light bulbs, batteries, generators, planes, cars, everything.ii The issue with this
industry is that these minerals are often harvested by a variety of military factions concentrated in
Central Africa, then shipped across the porous border undeclared to Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi,
Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Rwanda, smuggled to Africa s eastern coast, and finally shipped to smelting
factories in Southeast Asia and the Indian sub continent.iii Once the minerals reach the smelting
plant they are melted down with other shipments from around the world and any hope of
identifying whether or not they were used to fund the growing number of human rights violations
occurring in the Democratic Republic of the Congoand throughout Central Africa dissolves. As
though this supply chain was not already complex and spanning over a myriad of legal jurisdictions
each with their own issues, it is estimated

The Prayer Of Jesus And The Deaf Man Who Had A Speech Problem
Introduction to Mass:
Good morning everyone! I m very pleased that I can celebrate this Eucharist with you. We know
that every Mass is a beautiful time of encounter with Jesus when we want to open our ears and
eyes and listen to his voice. In today s Gospel Mark will tell us the story of Jesus healing the deaf
man who had a speech problem. And we would like to ask the Lord to help us to have eyes that
see His gifts, ears that hear His Words, and love to respond. Let us confess our sins...
Homily
Every miracle that Jesus performed was unique. I think that in today s Gospel we can hear one of
the most interesting miracles that Jesus performed. Mark tells us the story of Jesus healing the
deaf man who had a speech problem. Jesus compassion is so great that when the man
approaches him, He takes the man aside and heals him. And this is the first thing that can be
very surprising and unique. But why does Jesus take the deaf man off by himself away from the
crowd? It seems that it would be more effective to cure somebody in the presence of others. In
this case everyone would be able to see and believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, that He is
one who is sent from God, that He has divine power. But we see that Jesus thinks in very different
way. For him it s not so important human effectiveness but true and dense encounter with a person.
The Lord wants to be alone with him, away from the noise and activity of the crowd. He wants to
be able to communicate with him in

United States Supreme Court History
The history of the United States Supreme Court dates back to 1789 when George Washington
signed the Judiciary Act of 1789 that was passed by congress. This act established the United States

been many changes to their practices, but there are still a few that have stand the test of time.
Between the increase and decreasing of the number of Justices, and the few traditions that still

so very interesting facts. Justices are appointed by the President and serve for life or until they
choose to retire. In the case of a Chief Justice passing away or retiring, the President appoints a
new Chief Justice. When the Supreme Court was original made in 1790 there were originally six
Justice s, one Chief Justice and five Associate Justices. The number of Justices has change

The author sheds light on the idea that younger generations are affected in a positive way when
they watch reality T.V. While viewers are engaged watching a show, they learn to think critically
and analyze environments and situations. Johnson discusses that in watching these shows, even
reality TV for example, kids are forced to think like grown ups: analyzing complex social
networks, managing resources, tracking subtle narrative intertwining s, recognizing long term
patterns (Johnson 294). I believe this could be a positive impact, but could also have some
negative outcomes. Johnson believes that even bad T.V. is good T.V. because it teaches real
world situations. This is where I believe the negative impact of the exposure of T.V. comes into
play, because shows with high levels of violence could lead to the viewer reenacting the seen
behavior; this goes for not only violence but other things as well. He also refers to a show that he
considers nourishing; the finished series of 24, that you have to pay attention, make inferences,
track shifting social relationships (Johnson 279). The benefit of these shows does not come from
learning and following the characters actions; it comes from thinking and questioning situations.

one or more anxiety disorder, and whether or not there is a correlation between them. The authors
clearly included their hypothesis, which states they presume there to be higher rates of childhood
separation anxiety disorderamong patients with various adult anxiety disordersthan in adults with
only one adult anxiety disorder. In addition, the authors included the operational definitions of
comorbid anxiety disorders and childhood separation anxiety disorder. They defined comorbid
anxiety disorders as having more than two lifetime adult anxiety disorders. The authors were more
specific when clarifying CSA, which they defined as being diagnosed with excessive anxiety
regarding the separation of those whom the child is emotionally attached to, as well as
experiencing three of the nine symptoms listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders for at least two weeks.
The purpose of the study, according to the authors, is to further specify research already done on the
correlation between childhood separation anxiety disorder and adult anxiety disorders, and to
explore the possible relationship between other adult anxiety disorders and childhood separation
anxiety. This research is practically important because parents whose children are diagnosed with

Learning Disabilities And The Early Stages Of A Disability
Abstract
Learning disabilities are something a lot of people have to do it. It is a problem that affects
many people around the world, and causes a lot of frustration. This people will cover the general
definition of what other s ability is, and explain a little bit what it is. It will also go over some
myths that are prevalent when it comes to her and Billy s learning disabilities. It will cover the
criteria that needs to be met to receive the proper diagnosis and treatment for a child or young
adult with a learn disability. Warning sign and treatment will also be covered and given a more in
depth look into each of those topics.
Learning Disabilities
Learning disabilities are the most common disability. These disabilities are not like others, they
affect different people in different ways and have plenty of myths behind them. There is a criterion
that has to be met to receive the proper treatment and warning signs that can identify the early
stages of a disability.
Definition of Learning Disabilities
There have been many different definitions for what a learning disability is. These definitions fan
from books, to websites, to research papers, basically every and anything has its own definition
for what other disability is. LD Online states that a learning disability is a neurological disorder (
What is a Learning, 2015). However, a Learning disability is much more than that. To put it in a
much easier way to understand, a learning disability results from a

Soluble In Methanol
When we tested the solubility of the starting materials, we found that all of our starting materials
were soluble in hexanes, ethyl acetate, and acetone, which makes sense because all of these
solutions are organic materials, so the starting materials should form London dispersion forces with
them all, and the reaction should occur. Enthalpy should not care about whether the reaction occurs
or not because either way it has London dispersion forces, but entropy would drive the reaction
because it always wants a more random orientation, as explained above when describing enthalpy,
entropy, and free energy. Interestingly, none of the starting materials were soluble in methanol.

The combination of oils and fats with alkali products creates soap lather. However, when friction
is applied to these molecules, more lathering occurs. The friction creates air pockets and the oil
forms around each pocket of air (Fredericks), creating more surface area. Soaps and detergents
made from avocado, coconut, and castor oil (vegetable oil) will produce more lather than those
created from lard and fat because they produce both fluffy (foamy) and stable (picks up dirt)
lathers. This would explain why the canola oil had the best latherability. Canola oil is a type of
vegetable oil like castor oil, so it should have more lather. Detergent 2 was very basic and it was
made from fat, which is not as good at lathering as oil, plus it creates a hard soap, which does not
lather as well (Taylor). Table 4 depicts our results from the latherability

Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
The post WWI political and societal climate produced a steep increase in the number of American
expatriates in Europe. These expatriates were disillusioned by the horrors that they witnessed
during wartime. Romantic ideals became obsolete, and traditional values of love and happiness
faded with them. The effects of this disillusionment can be seen in Ernest Hemingways The Sun
Also Rises, a novel that revolves around the relationships and characters of a group of expatriates
on vacation in Spain for the Running of the Bulls Festival. Of these characters, only one still
subscribes to prewar values: Robert Cohn. Robert Cohn did not fight in the war, unlike the others in
the group, but he lost most of his inheritance, his wife, and the... Show more content on

Based on Jake s observations, it can be observed that Cohn has turned to books to cope with the

stories like The Purple Land which, according to Jake, is a very sinister book if read too late in
life due to its splendid imaginary amorous contents (17). This observation tells the reader about
Cohn s mindset, as well as Jake s. Due to the personal nature of Cohn s failures resulting in his
losses, Cohn still has a sense of optimism and romanticism that he explores through reading
books like The Purple Land as they provide him with inspiration for ways to better his life and
his character. Jake, however, believes that Cohn s obsession with The Purple Land is naive. Jake
believes that his war induced impotence has destroyed his love life, leading him to conclude that
The Purple Land portrays an inaccurate representation of love. Jake has lost all hope for himself,
and this mindset proves it. One night, after looking at himself naked in the mirror, Jake started to
cry after getting lost in his thoughts, revealing how hopeless he believes his situation is and how he
still cannot fully come to terms with his condition (38 39). Due

Circulation Of Cell-Free Dna Case Study
Among massive methods for diagnosis of cancer, detection of cell free DNA (cfDNA) is
distinguished from others by noninvasiveness and satisfactory sensitivity and specificity,
potentiating its application in clinic. However, a thorough understanding of cfDNA in pathobiology
and clinical use is still required. This review summarizes previous studies regarding liberation of
cfDNA into circulation. Distinctions of cfDNA between cancerous and non malignant conditions,
mainly including abnormally elevated concentration, gene mutations, changed methylation status,
loss of heterozygosity, aberrant microsatellite instability and alteration of DNAintegrity, are also
discussed to demonstrate the principle of diagnostic utilization of cfDNA... Show more content on

1. Biology of cfDNA
1.1 Origin
Although the concept of cfDNA has been raised since 1948, mechanisms leading to the
appearance of cfDNA in blood are still not clearly known. However, it was found that cell death
is the major origin of cfDNA.[6] Apoptosis and necrosis of nucleated cells can contribute to the
generation of cfDNA. Apoptosis is a controlled process of cell death and leads to a fragmented
nuclear genome visualized by a nucleosomal ladder.[7] On the other hand, cell necrosis is an
uncontrolled release of cellular contents. Therefore, they present differences in the size of DNA
fragments released. Moreover, cfDNA can also derive from living cells by a poorly understood
mechanism of active release.
1.2 Existent forms and Transporting mechanisms
Cell free DNA (cfDNA) is defined as the DNA presenting extracellularly and freely circulating in
the bloodstream, which can exist in several forms, namely unbound DNA fragments, nucleosomes,
vesicle bound DNA and virtosomes,[8] illustrated in figure 1.
1.2.1 Unbound DNA fragments
Free DNA fragments are unbound by any molecule or surface. They are digested by DNases in
blood[9] and have a half life of less than 2 hours.[10, 11] However, it was reported that in cancer
the DNase concentrations are low and DNase

Stop Under-Forced Marriage
Stop Under Aged Forceed Marriages
Every young girl asks for a new baby Annabel or a new bicycle on the run up to their 11th
birthday, but girls all over the world just want the right to an education and a free life. In the
developing world girls are getting married to older men from ages 30 up. This can end their
chances of an education and puts them at a much greater risk of isolation and violence. For girls
under the age of 15 the incidence of an early forced marriage is one in nine; The girls in these
undeveloped countries can be married as young as 5 years old. It is time to stop these unforgivable
marriages.
Research shows that in some of the biggest Mosques in Britain, millions of famillies have been
caught on camera agreeing to the marriage of their daughters some who are as young as 11 years
old. We cannot allow this to happen here on our doorstep. More awareness, more publicity, more
information has to be distributed so that this practice is brought to the attention of us all. Some of
the causes are due to poverty and religion. This is one of the biggest issues in the world and it

Concepts and Philosophies
Discuss why scale and resolution are important for your dissertation research
Scale can be a confusing definition in geography with its multiple referents. Scale is about size,
either relative or absolute, and involves a fundamental set of issues in geography. Scale primarily
concerns space in geography. However, the domains of temporal and thematic scale are also
important to geographers. Temporal scale deals with the size of time units, thematic scale with the
grouping of entities or attributes such as people or weather variables. Whether spatial, temporal, or
thematic, scale in fact has several meanings in geography. (Montello, 2001) .The definition of

from soil sample to cantena to catchment or watershed. The problem with this is that
generalisations made at one level or scale does not always hold at other scales. Sampling can be
done at the regional scale with sampling the sediment load at mouth of river to estimate catchment

Scale and resolution are very important for dissertation research as they help monitor the
environment via measuring cross sections with stratigraphic logging, this is not trying to control
realist but still interfering. An act of measurement is always considered an act of intervention.
There is less control over variables in final based experiments such as erosion plots, but still want
to replicate variability present in reality. However there are scaling issues strict scaling of materials
and forces cannot be applied. Experiments (laboratory and numerical) are the most extreme form of
intervention:

The Female Characters Of The Film, By Pan s Labyrinth
Patriarchy is described as a general structure where men hold the position of power over women.
This could include being the head of the household, upper level in the workplace, or leader in
society. Cinema serves this patriarchal institution by constantly constructing ideological images of
women. Since the beginning, women in film are made to conform to the ideal image that the man
has of them (Smelik, 496). Essentially, Hollywood cinema is structured for the male audience,
and therefore majority of films are classified as patriarchal. A lot has to do with how female
characters are portrayed and if there is a male gazein the film. Although Pan s Labyrinth is
constructed through the classic narrative mode, the film has a female lead and focuses on women.
Del Toro demonstrates the female characters overcoming obstacles and stigmas. Ofelia and
Mercedes are the two strong female protagonists who are good natured and act to what they think
is right, different from the passive or aggressive protagonists found in traditional fairytales. So,
how do these two women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype? In the paper, I will
analyze the mise en scene of the two different worlds and the inclusion of the male gaze to
establish how these women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype. To start off, there
are two worlds depicted within the film; a hostile fascist government in Spain and an enchanted
fantasy world. In the real world, the form is strictly

Medea s Quest For The Golden Fleece
Synopsis
The play of Medea was written by Seneca around 50 CE. In Greek Myth Medea is the daughter
of King Aeetes of Colchis, granddaughter of Helios and niece of Circe. She seeks revenge on her
husband Jason after he abandons her in Corinth in order to marry Creon s daughter. Over ten years
before the start of the play Medea had met Jason when she assisted him in his quest for the Golden
Fleece using her powers to aid him in impossible tasks that her father had set in front of Jason as
his price for obtaining the Golden Fleece. As assisting Jason meant that she was betraying both
her family and her country she fled with Jason to Thessaly. Their peace did not last long and they
were forced to flee back to Corinth where everything was fine ... Show more content on

She is set on getting revenge for the wrongs done against her right from the beginning of the
play. The Medea in Seneca s play is no weak damsel or victim of fate, she is a strong and
powerful woman, a force of nature, who will destroy anyone or anything that wrongs her, even
killing her sons without hesitation or lament. She demands to be feared rather than pitied and does
not hesitate to do what she feels she must in order to right the wrongs against her.
The Chorus Seneca s chorus is objective and does not hesitate in condemning the actions they are
witnessing. This is fine because Medea does not need their sympathy or permission, she is a
woman who makes things happen and does not rely on the gods.
Jason
In my opinion Jason takes the feminine role in the play. He comes across as rather weak and
helpless allowing the fates to dictate his course rather than fighting. He is also too willing to try to
help Medea and to trust her, when she pretends to have a change of heart. Also the fact that at the
end of the play he laments to the gods able why they allow such things to happen, rather than
vowing to avenge his son s deaths, confirms to me that he has taken the feminine role in the play.

Fantasy Sports Should Not Be Considered Gambling
Fantasy Sports; gambling or not. Fantasy sports should not be considered gambling. Fantasy
sports requires the player to be knowledgeable about the sport that they are playing in. Gambling

Players with more experience are more likely to win in fantasy sports. With gambling the same
cannot be said. Gambling has no real skill involved. If a person bets on a horse race, they do so
with blind faith in that horse. Sure, you can watch that horse and figure out if it can do well or

Insanity as a Defense
In this article I will consider whether the current claw defence of insanity is ineffective, out dated
and in need of reform. I will do so by contemplating several criticism of the insanity defence arising
from the M Naghten rules .
The concept of insanity as a defence was established in the early eighteenth century in the Arnold
s case (1724) and was further developed in the late 18th century in the Hadfield s case (1800), but
the standart test of criminal liability was only formed after the case of Daniel M Naghten (1843).
This case established the special verdict of ‚ not guilty by reason of insanity .
Over the years, academics have identified uncertainity in the insanity defence. First, the out dated
M Naghten rules cover crimes including non mental illnesses like in the case of Kemp (1957) and
also the epilepsy, diabetes and sleepwalking because the English courts accept that these defendants
(D) are of unsound mind when they are not. This mean that the insanity defence is weak and in
need of reform.
In murder cases, most defendants prefer to seek the other defence such as diminished responsibility
and non insane automatism due to stigma attached.
THE M NAGHTEN RULES
On January 20, 1843 Daniel M Naghten shot a person, who died, while suffering from morbid
delusions. The court established that the he was suffering from disease of the mind and he did not
know his action.

A Separate Peace By John Knowles
The war was not only happening in the real world, but also in the Devon School of Prep. The
book A Separate Peace by John Knowles is mostly about a boy, Gene, who is receiving his

his best pal, Finny, are both being forced to mature and grow up before being drafted to fight, but
before that even happens Gene s jealousy gets the best of him which will threaten his friendship.
Throughout the novel John Knowlesuses a great deal of literary elements to help add imagery, thrill,

Another way Knowles uses paradoxes in his story is when Phineas tells Gene he s sorry for
pulling him away from school and that Gene is his best pal (John Knowles 41). This proves that
even though their friendship is slowly falling apart Finny still wants things to be okay between
them, for example he hesitates before reinsuring Gene at this teen age period in life the proper
person is you best pal. He hesitated and then added, which is what you are, and there was silence
on his dune. (Knowles 41). No this is not a statement paradox, but it is a paradox because
throughout the entire novel Gene believes Finny is his best pal, yet when Finny tells Gene, Gene
becomes flabbergasted and cannot believe so and after Finny s statement he thinks to himself I
should have told him then that he was my best friend also and rounded off what he had said. I
started to; I nearly did. But something held me back. Perhaps I was stopped by that level of
feeling, deeper than thought, which contains the truth, (Knowles 41). He doesn t believe so
because of his jealousy of Finny. His jealousy will become a barrier between the two boys that will
bring them closer together and completely separate them.
Caricature has a great impact throughout the novel. It adds

The Fireflies ( 1988 ) Directed By Isao Takahata And Waltz...
In America, most animated movies incite young audiences. The funny characters and feel good
script entertain children and also gives them moral lessons along the way. The same cannot be
said for international films such as Grave of the Fireflies (1988) directed by Isao Takahata and
Waltz with Bashir (2008) directed by Ari Folman. These animated films contrast each other, not
only cinematically, but in the plotline as well. Wars replay over the main characters in each film,
both inside and outside the war itself. The difference between civilians and soldiers, color and
grayscale, dreams and reality create films which mesmerize the adult audience. Both anime and
comic book animationsoften the audience s overwhelming emotions when facing the realities
brought by war and help story tellers create scenes with a specific purpose. The animation used
in Grave of the Fireflies provides child like imagination during World War II. Set in Japan, the
plot follows two children torn away from their parents and struggling to survive on their own. By
using anime, the children s harsh conditions seem unreal, yet powerful. If the director, or
producers, used real actors and actresses to create Grave of the Fireflies, then the audience would
find Setsuko and Seita s situation harder to swallow. Seeing real people ripped from their families
and starving on the streets forces people to accept other realities different from their own. American
audiences see how the air raids effected civilians

Sports have become the new religion in America Essays
In America, despite the number of people who attend church and participate in religious
activities, you could assume sports are the new religion. There s the seasonal NASCAR on
Sundays and Monday night football, but most sports such as, baseball, basketball, soccer, and
hockey hold their events on any given day of the week. Many Americans arrange their schedules
to either attend or watch these events on television. You could even go so far as to say
Americans idolize athletes and sports stars, considering the billions of dollars spent on sporting

Super bowl Sunday has become an unofficial holiday, on which many people miss church to
watch. In attempts to encourage people to attend church on this day, churches are having super
bowl parties that many people would rather not go to because of the lack of alcohol. There are
many people who don?t attend church at all during football season. A number of people even
tithe their sport. Not in the traditional offering that you would give in church, but through ticket
sale, merchandise, and concessions at events. The NCAA Basketball play offs held their second
round games on Easter Sunday. Statistics say, in addition to the people who go to church
regularly, about twenty percent more of the population shows up at church on Easter Sunday. I
believe it?d be fair to say that religion won over sports that day. Sports have become extremely
important in public schools throughout America. Children are being pushed by parents, coaches,
peers, and in some cases, teachers to excel in sports. Hours upon hours a week are spent
practicing for some form of competition. Years ago, all this time was spent with family, at church,
or a combination of both. For example, how many times in the past few decades has a student

Bees have a secret life we don t know anything about. (Kidd 148). In the book August told Lily
about how bees live and how the queen bee lays eggs that become worker bees later on. This
made Lily think about herself and her life living without a mother. She realized that the queen bee
is like a mother to all the thousands of worker bees in the hive. This realization makes Lily
understand that even though she didn t grow up with her mother, doesn t mean that she could not
have a motherly figure to love her and take care of her like her mother would have. Along with the
queen bee becoming a symbol of her mother, later in the story, Lily understands that the statue of
Mary in the sisters home, also symbolizes a mother to thousands. Understanding this helps Lily
accept and deal with the trauma of her mother s death and heal her unhealed

the breakdown of the casualties since 2003 is as follows.
Since 2001, Taliban s have been operating in South Asia, untiringly, firming their ground and hold
over several cities and agencies, manipulating their routine or working, into something that suits the
Taliban establishment. in the name of religion Taliban have been attacking schools, have been
killing innocent people in the name of Jihad, spreading terror among masses.
The people of Pakistan consciously and sub consciously have fallen into the passively and actively
imposed lifestyle by the Taliban, controlling the masses by the power of terror.
The Taliban, following the footsteps and believing in the Khwarijites school of thought have been
operating the same way, dominating and controlling the people through fanatic religious ideas and
extremist approach towards implementing sharia and spreading the word of faith.

Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Moliere s Tartuffe...
Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Tartuffe
Moliere rocked the 17th century French world with his comedy Tartuffe in 1664. Although,
religious factions kept the play banned from theatres from 1664 1669, Tartuffe emerged from the
controversy as one of the all time great comedies. Tartuffe is a convincing religious hypocrite. He is
a parasite who is sucking Orgon, the rich trusting father, for all he is worth. Orgon does not realize
that Tartuffe is a phony, and caters to his every whim. For instance, he reneges on his promise to
let his daughter Mariane, marry Valere. Instead he demands that she wed Tartuffe, whom she
despises. He also banishes his own son, Damis, from his house for speaking out against Tartuffe and

If one takes the trouble to examine my comedy in good faith, he will surely see that my intentions
are innocent throughout, and tend in no way to make fun of what men revere; that I have presented
the subject with all the precautions that its delicacy imposes; and that I have used all the art and
skill that I could to distinguish clearly the character of the hypocrite from that of the truly devout
man. (Meyer 1509)
The play successfully conveys this message because Tartuffe is a first class villain. He is as
manipulative as Lady Macbeth, as greedy as Prince John, as underhanded as Modred, and as
clever as Darth Vader. Through his every word and deed it becomes more apparent that he is
thoroughly bad. More specifically, he not only wants to marry Orgon s daughter, but wants to
defile his wife as well. He is not satisfied with living off of Orgon s wealth but wants to possess it.
At no time in the play does Tartuffe resemble a truly pious man. The play never mocks God, but
only those who use his name to prey on unsuspecting fools.
The part of the fool is played to the hilt by Orgon. Throughout the first three acts he is such a
domineering idiot that he is not even worth pitying. He, along with his mother, play the part of the
blind zealot. What he chooses to call Christian love leads him to punish his family and himself
because he takes away their freedom of choice and integrity and his own property. But, Orgon is not

Watts Riots Research Paper
Watts Riots Introduction Martin Luther King, Jr. once said The limitation of riots, moral questions
aside, is that they cannot win and their participants know it. Hence, rioting is not revolutionary but
reactionary because it invites defeat. It involves an emotional catharsis, but it must be followed by a
sense of futility. Marquette Frye was a 21 year old African American man who was arrested on

Microsoft Corporation, A Worldwide Software Corporation
The Microsoft Corporation is a worldwide software corporation whose headquarters is in Redmond,
Washington. Microsoft develops, manufactures, license and wires a wide range of products and
services that are connected to personal computing. Microsoft is most remarkably known for its
Windows Operating System(OS), MicrosoftOffice and Mobile products like Windows Phone and
now tablets.
Over the past 5 years or so, Microsoft has fallen behind with is world wide supremacy.
For example, even though Windows OS is still the #1 operating system, it no longer leads by the
border it once had. This is due to the better popularity of Apple iOS, Linux and Google Android
and Chrome OS. Less than 10 years ago, Windows Phone was #1 with over 40% of the market
share, now that market share has fallen to less than 5%. My premeditated plan is to help Microsoft
raise its market share and gain a competitive frame. It will be significant to change the on hand
technology approach to something more mutual and flexible.
Microsoft has made billions of dollars production of great products at a great price, but the
satisfaction of the past 5 years or threatens to weaken the company s relevance in the future of
computing. Even though Microsoft is still huge and competes strongly, Microsoft has not seen
much product development outside of products like SharePoint and recently Windows Phone. If

Ralph Waldo Emerson Quotes
Quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is
no path and leave a trail describes me because I liked to venture into the unknown, the thought of
not knowing the outcome of your choice always intrigued me. The idea of carving your own
path or choices and leaving it for theirs take is fascinating. From an early childhood, I loved
doing things my own way, not because I wanted to be ignorant, rude or stubborn. I just want to
take my own way, taking an obvious path has no rewarding factor, no excitement or thrill. For
example, during kindergarten, I was assigned a simple task to bring in something you liked and
share it with a class. Normal you have several common option of bringing a favorite toy or a
book. I in the other had taken my neighbor s dog without asking the owner. My school was a
walking distance so I walked with the dog and came into class with the dog. The teacher was
concerned with me because I managed to sneak in a dog into the class. Of course, I got in trouble
but in my mind I was just following my teachers request to bring something I liked. I got a hundred
percent on the assigned even thought I was in a huge amount of trouble.... Show more content on

  • 2. Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Essay Introduction:Medical malpractice lawsuits are an extremely serious topic and have affected numerous patients, doctors, and hospitals across the country. Medical malpractice is defined as improper, unskilled or negligent treatment of a patient by a physician, dentist, nurse, pharmacist, or other health care professional (Medical malpractice, n.d.). If a doctor acts negligent and causes harm to a patient, malpractice lawsuits arise. Negligence is the concept of the liability concerning claims of medical malpractice, making this type of litigation part of tort law. Tort law provides that one person may litigate negligence to recover damages for personal injury. Negligence laws are designed to deter careless behavior and also to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basic Requirements for a Claim: In order to claim that a doctor or hospital was negligent in a medical malpractice case, there must be specific requirements present. First off a doctor patient relationship must have existed (Boeschen, 2014). An individual making the claim must show that there was a physician patient relationship with the doctor being sued. This means the doctor was hired and agreed to be hired for the medical care provided. If a doctor began seeing you and treating you, it is easy to prove a physician patient relationship existed. Second the plaintiff must show the doctor was negligent. Regardless of if the patient is unhappy with their treatment or results, does not determine the doctor is liable for medical malpractice. The doctor must have been negligent not reasonably skillful and careful in a diagnosis or treatment (Boeschen, 2014). To sue for malpractice, you must be able to show that the doctor caused you harm in a way that a competent doctor, under the same circumstances would not have (Boeschen, 2014). In many cases, the doctor s care is not required to be the best possible, but simply reasonably skillful and careful (Boeschen, 2014). Whether or not the doctor was reasonably skillful and careful is often up to the medical malpractice claim. Another basic requirement of a medical malpractice claim is whether or not the doctor s negligence caused the injury. Many malpractice cases involve patients that were already ... • 3. The Cut Short Story Jordyn Vicente 2A 10.17 The Cut It was a Friday, I hopped off the bus and sprinted home as fast as I could to pack my clothes in my suitcase. I regretted procrastinating the night before, because my mom would be home any minute to leave for Oklahoma. I grabbed my suitcase and flung it carelessly on my bed. I was so excited for my basketball tournament that I stood on my bed and began packing quickly. Suddenly i remembered that I left a shirt in the laundry room. I stepped down from my bed and felt something cut through my toe like butter. I looked down and saw a big piece of glass with blood dripping down the side. Immediately I knew what happened. With my quick thinking, I grabbed my cell phone and I hopped into the bathroom. Trying my best not to get blood on the clean carpet. I sat on the edge of the bathtub and turned on the water. While the water washed the fresh blood, I called my dad on my phone. I heard his thunderous footsteps coming down the hallway. He swung open the door and wrapped my foot in a towel. Right before they began the stitches they looked once more and realized the cut wasn t deep enough for something as drastic as stitches. They simply decided to use skin glue instead. They glued the skin back together with much less pain and effort that stitches could have caused. Database Modeling, System Design, And Improve Performance MODELING As databases and technology have evolved, Elmasri and Navathe point out that increasingly complex data structures for modeling to meet the needs of the more advanced and larger databases that were also beginning to include newer data types (2016). As stated before, with more complex databases, there are more vulnerabilities in security that need to be planned for and mitigated wherever possible. A DBMS is responsible for designing the methods in which data recovery and security is handled, while tools are used within database modeling that facilitate modeling, system design, and improve performance (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). When applying these tools to database creation, security should always be considered in each step of modeling and creating the database. The DBMS provides a security and authorization subsystem to the DBA so that they can use it to create accounts and specify account restrictions (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). AGGREGATION AND INFERENCE Aggregation occurs when a user combines individual pieces of data that they have access to in order to infer more of the bigger picture which they do not have access to, which can happen when a user only has access to some records but draws enough information from the ones they do have access to in order to figure out information that has been deemed off limits to them (Harris, 2002). This is, of course, a potential security risk which should be corrected. On the other hand, knowledge representation techniques, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Family Human papillomavirus (HPV) family is a subset of viruses characterized by their double stranded circular DNA in which the capsid is icosahedral. About 150 HPV types have been isolated and entirely sequenced. According to the homologous nucleotide sequence of the major capsid protein (L1), the HPV types are categorized into different genera namely: Alpha genus, beta genus, gamma, mu, and nu in addition to HPV types with a skin tropism that appears to be linked with the growth of benign cutaneous lesions. There are approximately 30 HPV types included in the alpha genus which characterized by their ability to infect the mucosa of the genital and oral tract as well as several benign cutaneous HPV types that are associated with the development of common skin warts. The (alpha) HPV types are divided according to their oncogenic potential into two groups: low risk(LR) HPVs (e.g. types 6 and 11) and high risk (HR) HPVs. The former group is mainly associated with benign genital warts and the latter group contains viruses considered to be the etiological agents of cervical as well as head and neck cancers. Dozen of different HR HPV types: 16, 18,31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, and 59 were categorized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as carcinogenic to humans. The early mission statement of the United States Africa Command states that the West s long term strategic interests in Africa are clear: we must thwart the growth of terrorism and transnational crime; we must prevent destabilizing mass migrations; and we must maintain secure trade links. The Problem Of Conflict Mineral While the term conflict mineral can be used to refer to any mineral resource being exploited by a belligerent faction in order to perpetuate hostilities, it is most commonly associated with columbite tantalite, cassiterite, wolframite, and gold ore, collectively known as 3TG minerals.i These ores, used to produce tantalum, tin, tungsten and gold, respectively, comprise a multi billion dollar market fueled by the growing demand for electronics and other products related to the technology industry. In today s Gospel Mark will tell us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who had a speech problem. And we would like to ask the Lord to help us to have eyes that see His gifts, ears that hear His Words, and love to respond. Let us confess our sins... Homily Every miracle that Jesus performed was unique. I think that in today s Gospel we can hear one of the most interesting miracles that Jesus performed. Mark tells us the story of Jesus healing the deaf man who had a speech problem. Jesus compassion is so great that when the man approaches him, He takes the man aside and heals him. And this is the first thing that can be very surprising and unique. But why does Jesus take the deaf man off by himself away from the crowd? It seems that it would be more effective to cure somebody in the presence of others. In this case everyone would be able to see and believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, that He is one who is sent from God, that He has divine power. But we see that Jesus thinks in very different way. For him it s not so important human effectiveness but true and dense encounter with a person. While viewers are engaged watching a show, they learn to think critically and analyze environments and situations. Johnson discusses that in watching these shows, even reality TV for example, kids are forced to think like grown ups: analyzing complex social networks, managing resources, tracking subtle narrative intertwining s, recognizing long term patterns (Johnson 294). I believe this could be a positive impact, but could also have some negative outcomes. Johnson believes that even bad T.V. is good T.V. because it teaches real world situations. This is where I believe the negative impact of the exposure of T.V. comes into play, because shows with high levels of violence could lead to the viewer reenacting the seen behavior; this goes for not only violence but other things as well. The journal article Childhood Separation Anxiety Disorder in Patients With Adult Anxiety Disorders focuses on the prevalence of childhood separation anxiety disorder (CSA) in adults with one or more anxiety disorder, and whether or not there is a correlation between them. The authors clearly included their hypothesis, which states they presume there to be higher rates of childhood separation anxiety disorderamong patients with various adult anxiety disordersthan in adults with only one adult anxiety disorder. In addition, the authors included the operational definitions of comorbid anxiety disorders and childhood separation anxiety disorder. They defined comorbid anxiety disorders as having more than two lifetime adult anxiety disorders. The authors were more specific when clarifying CSA, which they defined as being diagnosed with excessive anxiety regarding the separation of those whom the child is emotionally attached to, as well as experiencing three of the nine symptoms listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders for at least two weeks. The purpose of the study, according to the authors, is to further specify research already done on the correlation between childhood separation anxiety disorder and adult anxiety disorders, and to explore the possible relationship between other adult anxiety disorders and childhood separation anxiety. This research is practically important because parents whose children are diagnosed with childhood separation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soluble In Methanol When we tested the solubility of the starting materials, we found that all of our starting materials were soluble in hexanes, ethyl acetate, and acetone, which makes sense because all of these solutions are organic materials, so the starting materials should form London dispersion forces with them all, and the reaction should occur. Enthalpy should not care about whether the reaction occurs or not because either way it has London dispersion forces, but entropy would drive the reaction because it always wants a more random orientation, as explained above when describing enthalpy, entropy, and free energy. The friction creates air pockets and the oil forms around each pocket of air (Fredericks), creating more surface area. Soaps and detergents made from avocado, coconut, and castor oil (vegetable oil) will produce more lather than those created from lard and fat because they produce both fluffy (foamy) and stable (picks up dirt) lathers. This would explain why the canola oil had the best latherability. Canola oil is a type of vegetable oil like castor oil, so it should have more lather. Biology of cfDNA 1.1 Origin Although the concept of cfDNA has been raised since 1948, mechanisms leading to the appearance of cfDNA in blood are still not clearly known. However, it was found that cell death is the major origin of cfDNA.[6] Apoptosis and necrosis of nucleated cells can contribute to the generation of cfDNA. Apoptosis is a controlled process of cell death and leads to a fragmented nuclear genome visualized by a nucleosomal ladder.[7] On the other hand, cell necrosis is an uncontrolled release of cellular contents. Therefore, they present differences in the size of DNA fragments released. • 29. The Female Characters Of The Film, By Pan s Labyrinth Patriarchy is described as a general structure where men hold the position of power over women. This could include being the head of the household, upper level in the workplace, or leader in society. Cinema serves this patriarchal institution by constantly constructing ideological images of women. Since the beginning, women in film are made to conform to the ideal image that the man has of them (Smelik, 496). Essentially, Hollywood cinema is structured for the male audience, and therefore majority of films are classified as patriarchal. A lot has to do with how female characters are portrayed and if there is a male gazein the film. Although Pan s Labyrinth is constructed through the classic narrative mode, the film has a female lead and focuses on women. Del Toro demonstrates the female characters overcoming obstacles and stigmas. Ofelia and Mercedes are the two strong female protagonists who are good natured and act to what they think is right, different from the passive or aggressive protagonists found in traditional fairytales. So, how do these two women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype? In the paper, I will analyze the mise en scene of the two different worlds and the inclusion of the male gaze to establish how these women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype. Over ten years before the start of the play Medea had met Jason when she assisted him in his quest for the Golden Fleece using her powers to aid him in impossible tasks that her father had set in front of Jason as his price for obtaining the Golden Fleece. She demands to be feared rather than pitied and does not hesitate to do what she feels she must in order to right the wrongs against her. The Chorus Seneca s chorus is objective and does not hesitate in condemning the actions they are witnessing. This is fine because Medea does not need their sympathy or permission, she is a woman who makes things happen and does not rely on the gods. Jason In my opinion Jason takes the feminine role in the play. He comes across as rather weak and helpless allowing the fates to dictate his course rather than fighting. He is also too willing to try to help Medea and to trust her, when she pretends to have a change of heart. Also the fact that at the end of the play he laments to the gods able why they allow such things to happen, rather than vowing to avenge his son s deaths, confirms to me that he has taken the feminine role in the play. ... • 32. Insanity as a Defense In this article I will consider whether the current claw defence of insanity is ineffective, out dated and in need of reform. I will do so by contemplating several criticism of the insanity defence arising from the M Naghten rules . The concept of insanity as a defence was established in the early eighteenth century in the Arnold s case (1724) and was further developed in the late 18th century in the Hadfield s case (1800), but the standart test of criminal liability was only formed after the case of Daniel M Naghten (1843). This case established the special verdict of ‚ not guilty by reason of insanity . Over the years, academics have identified uncertainity in the insanity defence. First, the out dated M Naghten rules cover crimes including non mental illnesses like in the case of Kemp (1957) and also the epilepsy, diabetes and sleepwalking because the English courts accept that these defendants (D) are of unsound mind when they are not. This mean that the insanity defence is weak and in need of reform. In murder cases, most defendants prefer to seek the other defence such as diminished responsibility and non insane automatism due to stigma attached. THE M NAGHTEN RULES On January 20, 1843 Daniel M Naghten shot a person, who died, while suffering from morbid delusions. She realized that the queen bee is like a mother to all the thousands of worker bees in the hive. This realization makes Lily understand that even though she didn t grow up with her mother, doesn t mean that she could not have a motherly figure to love her and take care of her like her mother would have. • 41. Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Moliere s Tartuffe... Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Tartuffe Moliere rocked the 17th century French world with his comedy Tartuffe in 1664. Although, religious factions kept the play banned from theatres from 1664 1669, Tartuffe emerged from the controversy as one of the all time great comedies. Tartuffe is a convincing religious hypocrite. He is a parasite who is sucking Orgon, the rich trusting father, for all he is worth. Orgon does not realize that Tartuffe is a phony, and caters to his every whim. For instance, he reneges on his promise to let his daughter Mariane, marry Valere. Instead he demands that she wed Tartuffe, whom she despises. He also banishes his own son, Damis, from his house for speaking out against Tartuffe and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one takes the trouble to examine my comedy in good faith, he will surely see that my intentions are innocent throughout, and tend in no way to make fun of what men revere; that I have presented the subject with all the precautions that its delicacy imposes; and that I have used all the art and skill that I could to distinguish clearly the character of the hypocrite from that of the truly devout man. (Meyer 1509) The play successfully conveys this message because Tartuffe is a first class villain. He is as manipulative as Lady Macbeth, as greedy as Prince John, as underhanded as Modred, and as clever as Darth Vader. Through his every word and deed it becomes more apparent that he is thoroughly bad. More specifically, he not only wants to marry Orgon s daughter, but wants to defile his wife as well. He is not satisfied with living off of Orgon s wealth but wants to possess it. At no time in the play does Tartuffe resemble a truly pious man. The play never mocks God, but only those who use his name to prey on unsuspecting fools. The part of the fool is played to the hilt by Orgon. Throughout the first three acts he is such a domineering idiot that he is not even worth pitying. He, along with his mother, play the part of the blind zealot. What he chooses to call Christian love leads him to punish his family and himself because he takes away their freedom of choice and integrity and his own property.
