Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System
Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They
provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While
treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma
and burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of
medical and nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospitalsystems are well known for
their open door policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether
or not they can pay for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other
providers by ownership. Some are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments,
while others are non profit. However, they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access
to care for all individuals with limited or no access to health care due to their finical circumstances,
insurance status or health condition (What is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015).
Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will
frequently show up in the emergency room. Even if their care is not critical or an emergency, these
patients cannot be turned away. A study performed by an urban institute estimated that the costs of
uncompensated care to these hospitals were as high as forty five billion dollars in 2013.
Government programs will help with approximately 65% of

Do I Have To Do Analysis
Some Essay/Creative Writing I Have To Do One of the struggles I had was getting my first job at
PlayLand during the summer. My shifts were 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. The fair looked like a
very simple job and I felt confident to work. I never had any job experience prior to this and I
assumed the work wasn t going to be difficult. It was great to be able to work and earn myself
some money over the summer. My mom told me I could spend it however I d like. A month after
I signed up for PlayLand, I went to the interviews. It was very simple and everyone there was

got to swipe my card and I was very excited. As I walked in and grabbed my uniform and got
ready to work. Within a few hours of standing outside in the sun, I felt so tired and exhausted. I
didn t want to continue to work anymore, I realized how difficult it was to make money. At the
end of the shift, I was completely out of it. I swiped my card out and got onto my bike and rode
home. Fast forward to the next day of work, I was feeling really worn out and lost all energy to
work. I went in and changed into my uniform then I went out to stand in the sun again. This time,
I noticed that if I try to enjoy what I was doing time could pass by quicker because my shifts were

Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory
Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey
Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic
nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its
entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was
in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the
fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in
certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes
stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or
clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the
obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s
overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the
context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind
and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm
of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com).
Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse,
individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be
acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong

The Importance Of Sharing An Underused Asset
So you ve accepted the fact that your car is dangerously depreciating in value every second it s
parked in the driveway but, you still have questions.
We realised since launching our business early this year that concept of sharing an underused asset
is new to many people!
Sure, sharing goods between family members and close friends has always been common
practice. But how exactly did the idea of sharing and earning some extra cash from an existing
asset become so easily accessible for everyone?
Advancement in technology and the rise of digital technology have led to laborious tasks
becoming automated. For anyone that s experienced the turmoil of unexpected item in bagging
area during the weekly grocery shop, the changes not always a welcome edition to daily life. One
positive result is the increased access to free information, meaning that consumers are much more
informed and rely less on traditional marketplaces and in some cases can choose to deviate from
them altogether. The cost to produce goods has gone down, and with many goods and services
almost free this has led to a boost in efficiency and individuals starting to networking with each
other.
While most people aren t against the idea of the earning some extra cash by lending someone
something they already own, they don t want the hassle of taking care of all the little details or
damage to their property and that s where companies like us step in! In our case, our online

Computer Aided Dermatology
The different methods that fall under computer aided diagnosis are more variable in diagnosing
different attributes of melanoma as opposed to physicians. In computer diagnosis, patients are able
to undergo several, but not all types of noninvasive diagnoses such as teledermatology, mole
mapping and monitoring, automated diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for automatic
diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for noninvasive measurement of the depth of melanomas,
and confocal microscopy of histopathology. (Elbaum, 2002) With the variability in types of
diagnoses, individuals have the ability to choose what they want view and analyze in regards to
their skin, whereas physicians are limited by the methods they utilize (ABCDE, Ugly Duckling, ...

A popular technique utilized by dermatologists to diagnose melanoma includes dermoscopy,
which is a noninvasive technique for taking high resolution images of skin lesions by making
the superficial layers of the skin translucent. (Dreiseitl, Binder, Hable, Kittler, 2009)
Dermoscopy is a technique that allows dermatologists to view lesions and moles at a larger
magnitude yielding to a more accurate diagnosis through the ABCDE method and Glasgow 7
point checklist. While dermoscopy has aided physicians in accurately diagnosing melanoma,
computer aided dermoscopy has been proven to have higher accuracy in diagnosing patients. In
one study, expert physicians scored a sensitivity of 81% and specificity of 95%, whereas the
computer aided dermoscopy scored 93% on sensitivity and 95% specificity. (Barzegari,
Ghaninezhad, Mansoori, Taheri, Naraghi, Asgari, 2005) The high sensitivity and specificity of
the computer diagnosis is the result of the lack of bias computers have in comparison to
physicians and dermatologists. In computer aided dermoscopy, the computer compares the
patient s lesions and moles to a database of previously recorded and imputed parameters. Thus,
computer diagnosis is accurate to the extent of the set parameters and is reproducible in results
as opposed to trained physicians who have variable ranges for specificity and sensitivity due to
bias. Similarly, in the dermoscopy of small lesions, expert dermatologists scored an average of
71% sensitivity and 49% specificity whereas the computer vision system achieved 98% sensitivity
and 44% specificity. (Friedman, Gutkowicz Krusin, Farber, Warycha, Schneider Kels, Papastathis,

Cannibalism Or The Consumption Of Human Flesh By Human
Cannibalism Culture
Cannibalism or the consumption of human flesh by humans is an act in which many people feel
uneasy about and is ethically immoral to participate in ( Cannibalism , 2008: 427). However, it is
a ritual that is practiced in some parts of the world. There are still cultures that feel that the eating
of humans by humans (Lawless, 2006: 435), is perfectly conventional and acceptable. This may
create a culture shock for many individuals that don t engage in such rituals The reasons why
people participate in cannibalism are due to many factors, but it all narrows down to the culture that
an individual is introduced and/or indulged in. It is common to think that Cannibalism can be seen
as a survival technique. When one is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fine line between what is right and what is wrong. The opinion that you have on cannibalism,
whether positive or negative does not directly reflect the opinions of every individual in the
world. It all boils down to how you the individual was raised and in which culture was he/she
raised in. In many cultures, cannibalism is seen as taboo and a topic that individuals do not want to
think or talk about, but there are cultures that see it as perfectly normal. Cannibalism is part of their
tradition and these individuals do not feel remorse for their cannibalistic actions. To them,

Theories Of Progressive Education
Progressive Learning Theory in the US
Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating
John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational
philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that
reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring
instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in
the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is
essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as,
Progressive Education.
Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and
educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the
importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child
learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
(1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct
manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated.
Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of
pedagogy as an academic discipline. According to Herbart, abilities were not innate but could be
instilled, so a thorough education could provide the framework for moral and

Hobo Dyer Essay
1 The Hobo Dyer map is a bit confusing; where the South and North are on opposite direction of
the map I am used to. The compass used on the Hobo Dyer map is different than the compass used
in a normal map; the map is upside down. In terms of territories, the United States of America is
located in North America between Canada and Mexico. China is located in Asia between Thailand,
Mongolia, Nepal, and etc.
According to my research, in terms of population, China has greater population than the United
States of America. China s population is 1.382 billion, while USA s population is 318.9 million.
The following five countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council with their
location on the Hobo Dyer map: a China: is located in the northeast of Asia. b France: is located
in east Europe. c United Kingdom: is located in the southwest of Europe. d United States of
America: is located in North America. e Russia: is located between south Asia and west Europe.

The Reform Of The Health Care Reform Essay
The latest health care reform has done what few policies manage to do sicken both republicans
and progressive democrats. While we can all agree that a reform of the health care system is
sorely needed, we must also acknowledge that Obamacare is not the cure all we so desperately
require. Rather, President Obama, like a medieval barber, prescribed a health care reform that
treated the symptoms of our flawed system rather than the actual disease. The subsidization of
health insuranceproviders has proven ineffective at providing affordable coverage for all.
Certainly one is likely to hear the various incendiary talking points of both the proponents and
opponents. Whether it s the republican candidates blaspheming Obamacare as socialism, or the
administration praising the success of health care for all, it is difficult to actually find constructive
dialogue. We are purview to many sound bites, but few actual solutions. We have witnessed heated
debates, but rarely do we witness intelligent discourse. If beneficial reform is to be crafted and
implemented, we must first acknowledge the issues and inconsistencies of the current system and
begin to explore alternate methods of providing health care to the American people. This diagnoses
of the flaws in our health care system must start with identifying and redefining the social
constructs of America. In most other civilized nations, it is generally accepted that it is in the best
interest of the public that every individual be

Pope Leo XIII Advantages And Disadvantages
Pope Leon XIII marked that history of society with his encyclical because of the moment that was
written. The industrial revolution was a transformation in the history of the world with the creation
of job s factories, the origin of two classes: the wealthy and the poor, and the migration of people
from rural to urban. Pope Leon XIII, could see that advantages and disadvantages of the industrial
revolution because the industrial revolution was violating human rights he made some arguments
on the common goods, the right of the workers and the private property.
Sharing benefits between member of the community is a principal that Pope Leo XIII is transmitting
in his encyclical. The common good is an important quality that society should develop every
day. The church has been always in behalf of the poor, for that reason Pope Leo XIII used that
Bible as way to support his idea of the common good, He cited, There was not a needy person
among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what
was sold (Acts 4:34). This passage support his idea of common good in the way that if the wealth
people could provide or share their goods to the needy, poverty will decrease with the help of the
church and the state. In this argument he talks to those who practices almsgiving and those who
ignore to help the needy (22) he quoted, And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as
you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. (matt
25:40). This argument has a good intentions, but I according to his source matt 25:40, it does not
applied to the moment in the history and neither today because if people could follow that norm of
helping the needy, it would not be extreme poverty as it was and it is. So, I do not consider this
specific passage as essential for this argument. However, he mentioned the state should be
responsible of the common good. He defined the state as the reasonable institution to take care of
the administration of the commonwealth (32). His bases his argument in one of his encyclicals
named, On the Christian Constitution of the state before Rerum Novarum, this encyclical explains

exemplifies a study regarding an experiments where they planted fake memory about alien

control group. This shows that fake memory could produce realistic experiences towards the
patients and could lead to severe consequences. Parts work therapy on the other hand deals with

How Sugar Affects The Melting Rate Of Ice Research
The Effect of Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice.
Abstract:
The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in
them or not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the
lowering of the freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar.
Introduction:
I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There
were two different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar.
Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the
molecules become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you
freeze the water, the water freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice
develops. Sugar makes the ice harder to form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering
the freezing point, it keeps the ice from re freezing as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ...

The only dependent variable is the time the ice cubes take to melt. The controlled variables are the
size of the ice cube, and the room conditions they melted in.
Aim:
To see which type of ice cube melts faster (the one with or without sugar).
Hypothesis:
If the sugar in the ice cubes will cause the ice cubes to melt quicker than the ones without it.
Equipment:
пЂЄ1 tablespoon (20 g) White Sugar
пЂЄ280 ml of water (this needed to be divided in half for the different types of ice cubes, so 140

Teratogenic Effects Of Alcohol On Fetus
Effects of Alcohol on Fetus
Teratogen Defined. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is known to have teratogenic effects.
Teratogen means that a particular agent is known to cause abnormalities on a developing embryo.
The teratogenic effect the alcohol will have on the embryo is highly dependent on dose and
frequency of consumption. As stated in the medical journal, AlcoholAbuse In Women, Exposure to
heavy drinking (over 48 60 gr. ethanol/day) may cause fetal alcohol syndrome; exposure to
moderately high drinking, between 24 48 gr. ethanol/day which may result mostly in alcohol

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is known for the physical abnormalities it causes. Children with Fetal
Alcohol Syndrome have abnormal facial features, such as a smooth ridge between the nose and
upper lip, small head size, shorter than average height and low body weight. FAS also causes
problems in the central nervous system and may cause a wide range of behavioral issues
(CDC,2015). Alcohol Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder has properties that may not be readily
visible right after birth. The reason being that the disorder is based on the effects it has on the child
intellectually and behaviorally. These effects are prominently seen when the child is older. These
children have difficulties with math, memory, attention, judgment, and impulse control (CDC,
2015). The last Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder that will be discussed is Alcohol Related Birth
Defects (ARBD). The defects associated with this disorder are problems with the heart, kidneys,
bones and hearing. Other consequences of alcohol consumption while pregnant include spontaneous
abortion, sleep and sucking problems as a baby, and death. All of these consequences can be easily
prevented if a mother chooses to abstain from drinking while she is pregnant.

What Led to the Decline of Indentured Servitude and the...
The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic
factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers
to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming
independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude,
in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a
labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a
labor force that would satisfy their needs.

Analysis of Kanye West s All Falls Down Essay
Thanh Do
Professor Rehner
English 1980, Tutorial 1
24 March 2009
Personal Context Essay: All Falls Down
Kanye West produced the popular song All Falls Down in 2004. He is well known for creating
many wonderful tunes but this one stands out above the rest. While his other songs contain bass
heavy instrumentals and contain lyrics about money and women, this one is strays away from the
previous structures. All Falls Down catches the attention of youth, with its mellow melody, to send
a strong message concerning the overemphasis on money and education and how it can be harmful
through the lyrics. The issues contained in the message are highly focused on the idea that money
and education will not always be there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artists tend to showcase a slower tempo for the song if it dealt with negative views of drugs
because it is important to raise the awareness. Kanye tries to usher the ideas that money and
education shouldn t be the only objectives of life, so it shouldn t be so important. Because it is
unimportant, why express it with such detail in a slower pace? The music and lyrics therefore
are contrasted with a purpose. The tempo is created with a bass guitar and drums. Add these to
the already established acoustic guitar and female vocals and the beat sounds very complex.
This suggests that the issues are also complex; they cannot be easily understood and solved. The
lyrics of a song often have no substance and a clear example would be any Britney Spears song.
The lyrics of All Falls Down are very deep. They talk about the ideal situation in life; We should
go to school, get a good job and make money to buy what we want. The lyrics then ask, what if

The Ethics Of Paediatric Anti Depressant
Synthesizing the clinical problems relating to the prescription of antidepressant medications, M.
C. Shearer and S. L. Bermingham outline and highlight the ethical concerns regarding the use of
antidepressant medications in children and adolescents. Professors of Biology Shearer and
Bermingham in their article The Ethics of Paediatric Anti Depressant Use: Erring on the Side of
Caution argue that prescribing antidepressants to youth is a simplistic approach to a complex
issue and should be severely restricted by physicians and strictly enforced by parents. Paediatric
depression (depression that usually affects youth ages five to eighteen, or in some cases,
individuals up to age twenty one) is on the rise, and is quickly becoming a significant issue in
today s society. Recent estimates have placed its prevalence at a combined percentage of between
two and seven percent for those between the ages of six and eighteen years old. Identified by a
range of symptoms including: low mood, anhedonia [the inability to feel pleasure], defiance,
pessimism, morbid thoughts and somatic symptoms, (710) adolescent depression, very similar to
adult depression, takes a toll on the lives of adolescent youth and often alters their personalities,

Siddhartha
Siddhartha, the handsome and respected son of a Brahmin, lives with his father in ancient India.
Everyone in the village expects Siddhartha to be a successful Brahmin like his father. Siddhartha
enjoys a near idyllic existence with his best friend, Govinda, but he is secretly dissatisfied. He
performs all the rituals of religion, and he does what religion says should bring him happiness and
peace. Nonetheless, he feels something is missing. His father and the other elders have still not
achieved enlightenment, and he feels that staying with them will not settle the questions he has

Japan And Japanese Culture
Japan is an East Asian Island country with a distinct cultural identity. Samurai values, kimono
clothing, Noh Theater, woodblock art, and sumo wrestling are among the many instantly
identifiable aspects of Japan s culture. Many of Japan s cultures have developed through centuries
of feudal rule and has benefited from the country s geographic isolation.
Japan put in place a policy of national seclusion for hundreds of years until the 1850s, but it
succumbed to an imperialist power by the end of the 19th century. The culture of Japan was spread
internationally through occupation in military campaigns before World War II. Japan then
reinvented itself after the war and began to flourish economically. Japanese influence spread not by
militarist might, but through economic integration with much of the international community in
the last part of the 20th century (Encyclopedia Britannica Online, Japan, 2011).
East of the Asian mainland, Japan is a country of mountainous volcanic islands and intermittent
valleys situated in the western Pacific Ocean. Japan has four main islands, the biggest is Honshu,
which contributes to sixty percent of the nations total land area and eighty percent of the entire
population. Some of the other major islands of Japan include Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku.
Lying south of the main islands are the Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa. With a land area
totaling 377,835 sq km (145,902 sq mi), Japan is a fraction smaller than California. Neighboring

Symptoms And Treatment Of The Vocal Fold Polyps
Introduction Vocal fold polyps are common in the general population. They affect the vibratory
vocal fold function resulting in significant dysphonia which are often surgically correctable. They
are confined to the superficial lamina propria (SLP) of the vocal folds . Nowadays ,
phonomicrosurgery is the most common treatment of vocal fold polyps , and became a new
standard of care to remove pathology in these cases without scar formation . The term
phonomicrosurgery was introduced in 1994 , the principle of which lies in maximal preservation of
the layered microstructure of the vocal folds, that is the epithelium and superficial lamina propria
(SLP) . Physicians prescribe antireflux therapy in the form of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) after
phonomicrosurgery for vocal fold polyps depending on the base that laryngopharyngeal
reflux(LPR) plays an important role in pathogenesis of benign vocal fold mucosal lesion including
polyps. Liquid alginate has been used in the treatment of symptoms of reflux disease with
promising results for many years, sometimes in combination with H2 receptor antagonists or proton
pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is effective by producing a mechanical antireflux barrier within the
fundus of the stomach.. The formation of barrier reduces the risk of further symptoms due to reflux
of gastric contents into the oesophagus so , combination of proton pump inhibitors ( PPIs) and
liquid alginate is expected to give

First-Grade Classroom Evaluation
This first grade classroom has a wealth of printed text, both on the walls and on bookshelves and
within technology. While not always apparent at first glance, a little digging produced resources for
both the teacher and students. While to my eyes, these appeared hidden away, the teacher was
quickly able to point me in the direction of the resources.
In general, this first grade classroom rated outstanding with a score of 10/15. The outstanding
rating was given as an indication of a classroom full of written text which is presented in multiple
modalities. The written text is readily available as a resource for students who still need that extra
assistance when applying new strategies for reading and writing.
The classroom rated a score of 2/15 for the adequate category and 3/15 for the inadequate
category. To be fair, the score for the inadequate category is, in part, more a reflection of the grade
level of students. Specifically, textbooks are not used with first grade other than as a resource for
math worksheets. Additionally, many lower grade teachers at this school have not recognized the
usefulness and impact of non fiction periodicals for use with their students. The lower scoring

Fog In Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens diplomatically uses symbolism throughout the novel to portend upcoming
conflicts. The horses with drooping heads and tremulous tails (16) struggled to march up the harsh
conditions of the lofty hill. The horses embodies King Louis XIV, Queen Marie Antoinette, and
aristocrats of France. The rulers and aristocrats eventually face death due to the dissatisfaction of
the people about the dying economy. The horses drooping heads epitomizes the King, Queen, and
the aristocrats heads under the guillotine, which leads to their appalling death. As the passengers of
the carriage, along with the horses, trudged up the the precipitous hill, they had to walk through a
curtain of fog that was enough to shut out everything from the light (16). The fog best exemplifies
the unpredictable future of the aristocrats because they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the passengers and company hiked up the steep hill, they mashed their way through the thick
mud (16). The thick mud prefigures the difficulties and conflicts the aristocrats have to face in the
end for ignoring the suffering and poverty of the people around them. The story takes place on a
Friday night in November, one thousand seven hundred and seventy five (17). Dickens chose a
night in November because the month has more dark and gloomy weather and color during the
day than luminous and radiant. The month s gloom and darkness foreshadows the many deaths
of the aristocrats and the depression feeling of the lower class. On the Friday night of November,
the passengers were lumbering up Shooter s hill (17) to get the the Dover Mail. Shooter s hill is
steep, muddy, and sufficient with many obstacles. The hill presages the tough obstacles the upper
class will encounter because of their money and arrogance towards the lower class. The setting is a
strategy used by the author to foretell future events and and set a

Cultural And Cultural Diversity In Hey Arnold
As a kid, watching television was one of my favorite things to do. It seemed as if when the TV
was on, the world stopped moving for an hour or two. There were many shows from my childhood
that helped shape me into the person I am today, but the one that stood out amongst the rest was
Hey Arnold. The hit 90 s show Hey Arnoldenculturated children through illustrating social
acceptance, self confidence, and displaying resilience through hardships.
As a young child growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, Hey Arnold helped me become a more
culturally and socially accepting individual through the consistent exposure of different ethnicities
and family structures. For example, Arnold s grandparents housed two immigrants Mr. Hyunh
from Vietnam and Oskar Kokoshka from Czechoslovakia. These two men from two entirely
different cultural backgrounds were able to share a home, as well as guide Arnold through
several issues he faced growing up. Arnold showed a full capacity of love and acceptance for
these men s diverse race and backgrounds. Another example of the ethnic diversity in Hey Arnold
is Arnold s friends. His best friend Gerald, a young sporty African American boy, Phoebe a young
Japanese American girl, and his Jewish friend Harold are prime examples of the cultural and racial
diversity the show displayed. None of these characters were treated poorly or persecuted based on
race or culture. In the episode Harold s Bar Mitzvah , Harold is forced to abandon his friends

American involvement in Vietnam was largely in response to Cold War polices and Strategies.
Kennedy took a much more laid back approach to Vietnam than Eisenhower did. He only wanted to

The fighting lasted for two days and nights, with both sides reporting heavy casualties. Ultimately
in the end the US won and Robert McNamara now had his strategy to win the war, numbers (We

causality on the North Vietnamese, which he thought would in the end lead to Ho Chi Minh
surrendering because the North Vietnamese would no longer be able to fight. The body count
system was the only way he knew to measure success since the ultimate US goal was to keep
communist influence out of South Vietnam, and there was no clear way to measure that. With the

The US tactics for the war, such as its manpower policy had a great impact on the American

The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of
men are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul
passes to another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids
believed that men s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may
prevail. Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading

The Nature of Gladiator Fights Essay
The Nature of Gladiator Fights
The Gladiatorial fights were noble in some ways, but in others seem to have the characteristics of
the lowest form of entertainment. Gladiators were considered to fight with pride, they honoured
their Gods with sacrifices and prayer for victory and they honoured their traditions and heritage,
often being armed in weapons and armour, and having fighting styles originating from their
country of origin. For example the Gaul. Glory and fame, were just two of the noble characteristics

a person struggling with the various conflicts and problems in his life. The fame, together with the
luxury the gladiators experienced when not training or fighting adds to the general feeling of
nobility. I suppose its this outward nobility, together with the objective of the Gladiatorial fights to
reduce aggression within the general public, that made the fights seem morally and ethically
acceptable to the Roman masses. Anyway, the Gladiatorfights would be held immediately after the
midday executions; the Romans would at this point be more interested in skill and prize than blood.
I suppose the Gladiatorial fights were somewhat a trademark of the Roman Empire and indeed
Roman Civilisation. I expect that this has something to do with the fact that Rome was built upon
bloody conquest, and the Gladiatorial fights amplify both bloody conquest and indeed a noble
luxurious life. There was also an aim for all Gladiators, that turned savage blood lust entertainment
into an acceptable tournament of the highest calibre; gladiators could be given the wooden sword,
symbolising freedom; the fact that the Gladiators are working for a goal, rather than just killing each

Consumer And Consumer Self Identity
1.0Introduction
Consumer researchers have recognized that people consume in ways that are consistent with
their sense of self (Sirgy, 1982). Consumption is not only a tool to obtain the value of goods and
display social status, but also is closely related to self identity. In the consumer culture, customers
no longer just shop because of their needs. The desire of individual s self development and self
taught continue to stimulate the consumption. People change themselves as much as possible by
buying new goods. In answer to the problem what kind of person he is , people not only judge
other people according to a virtue or quality of the individual, but tend to be based on personal

3.0 The importance of advertising
In the increasingly competitive market, people pay more attention to the development of brand
image. Meenaghan (1995) stated that advertising is considered to be an important marketing tool. It
informs consumers of the product information and it is a popular and effective way to
communicate with their customers. Companies could attract target groups through advertising.
Advertising are largely based on defining the desires and dreams of the consumers so it do not
attempt to manipulate consumers, but rather the symbolic meanings which are attached to the
products. When a company launches advertising, its goal is to promote consumption and increase
market sales. Abideen and Saleem (2011) stated that advertising promotes product awareness in the
minds of all the potential and target consumers and as such playing a huge role in influencing the
consumer purchasing decision. Therefore, many companies choose to make the advertising to
attract the customers. These companies also use consumer s self identity concept to advert and let
the customers know the products could satisfy their self identity. There are three different

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel written by Scottish author Robert Louis
Stevenson and published in 1886. It concerns a lawyer, Gabriel Utterson, who investigates the
strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the reclusive Mr. Edward
Hyde. This novel represents an ideology in Western culture; the perpetual conflict between
humanity s virtuosity and immorality. It is interpreted as an accurate guidebook to the Victorian
era s belief of the duality of human nature. This essay will explore Mr. Edward Hyde and whether
Stevenson intended for him to be a mere character in the novel or something of wider significance.

This suggests that Hyde is a strange man. Stevenson uses this powerful description to convey
and portray a man who comes across as mysterious and dangerous. Stevenson makes him more
mystifying when Enfield continues, I can t describe him. And it s not want of memory; for I
declare I can see him this moment. (Page 15) This immediately brings a sense of a man with
deformities that can t be described. Stevenson uses this to confuse the reader and amplify the
sense of foreboding. Surely when one can see somebody in their mind, they can describe how
they look and describe their deformities especially? Not being able to describe Hyde shows that
he isn t a normal human; he s something far more inhumane. Utterson meets Hyde when Hyde is
trying to go through the door where the novel started. After talking very briefly with Hyde, Mr.
Utterson gets the impression that Hyde prefers the solitude as he quickly unlocks the door to
enter. This time the reader gets an accurate account of how Hyde looks like. Mr. Hyde was pale
and dwarfish (Page 23) is the initial line to the description. This could create the sense that Hyde is
malnourished and still not fully formed yet. He gave an impression of deformity without any
namable malformation (Page 23) reinforces the idea that Hyde had a deformity that couldn t be
described. Even though Utterson just met Hyde, he is indescribable which creates the notion that
Hyde looks different from

Essay on Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson
Developing a country and its principals comes with many debates, arguments, and many decisions
to be made. In the end of the eighteenth century the Founding Fathers of the newly established
America dealt with the difficulties of creating a country with strong political, social, and economic
power. With the writing of the Articles of Confederation the country had now developed a national
government, but was weak and ineffective. The top leaders of the country knew the flaws of the
Articles and gathered together to rewrite the draft. When these decisions makers met in
Philadelphia for the Convention the Constitution of the United Stateswas written. This Constitution
developed the foundation of the American governmental system. Along with... Show more content

Federalist s views on economy were based off internal and foreign connections. Internally, Hamilton
s economic plan included three main parts paying off all war debts, raising government taxes, and
creating a national bank. This plan would result in the nation s debt, which was a result of the
Revolution, being paid in full by the wealthier states paying states debts for the poorer states. This
was not accepted because the richer southern states disagreed to pay for the poorer northern states.
Another plan by Hamilton was to tax farmer who made alcohol, resulting in funds to pay off the
nations debt. Most of these farming citizens where part of the opposing Republican Party who
strongly disagreed with the new tax causing the Whiskey Rebellion. Internationally, Hamilton
wanted a strong economic relationship with Great Britain. He developed the Jay Treaty that insured
a diplomatic agreement from peaceful trading with Britain. The Jay Treaty included decisions of
debt payments, country boundaries, and Britain occupation of forts in newly independent America.
Hamilton believed in a strong central economy that was aided by foreign affairs and national
strength.
Along with an economic system, Federalist believed in a powerful national government and army.
Hamilton wanted the government to be centralized and

Vygotsky Vs Piaget
In the world of cognitive development , two of the most influential psychologists are Jean Piaget
and Lev Vygotsky. Piaget s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky s sociocultural theory
had a profound impact on the field of cognitive development, and their contributions continue to
influence psychologist, educators and researchers today. Both Vygotsky and Piaget s theories
provide a different perspective on how children learn, and by looking at both theories, we can better
understand a child s cognitive development. At the beginning of his career, Jean Piagetconsidered
himself to be a genetic epistemologist (McLeod,2015). Because of his desire to understand how
knowledge emerges, Piaget decided to study human development, specifically... Show more content

In the first stage, Piaget looked at understanding object permanence which is recognizing if an
object still exist even when it is out of sight (Cardwell Flanagan,2004). Children below the age
of two failed to grasp the concept. Next, Piaget examined if children, in pre operational stage,
could understand the logic. He did this by seeing if children could understand that despite the
change of the appearance of an object, it would remain the same (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). In
his conservation experiment, Piaget showed children identical glass full of equal amount of
liquid. He then pours the liquid of one the glasses in a taller narrow glass. After which, he would
ask the child, what glass has more? . Inevitably, the child would say the tall the narrow glass,
believing it contained more liquid because of the height of the glass (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004).
Piaget believed that this was caused by centration , and was based on perception instead of logic
(Cardwell Flanagan, 2004).
The importance of Piaget s work cannot be understated. His theory of cognitive development
continues to influence research today. In a recent study, researchers decided to take a closer look
at early brain development as it pertains to Piaget s sensorimotor stage. They discovered that the
nerve pathway that carries information such as eye, head, neck and trunk coordination is one of the
earliest central nervous systems to myelinate, allowing the infant s early sucking, grasping, and the
following objects just as Piaget describes in his early stage of development (Lefman

Mean Variance Analysis
Harry W. Markowitz, the father of Modern Portfolio theory , developed the mean variance
analysis, which focuses on creating portfolios of assets that minimizes the variance of returns i.e.
risk, given a level of desired return, or maximizes the returns given a level of risk tolerance. This
theory aids the process of portfolio construction by providing a quantitative take on it. It integrates
the field of quantitative analysis with portfolio management. Mean varianceanalysis has found
wide applications both inside and outside financial economics. However it is based on certain
assumptions which do not hold good in practice. Hence there have been certain revisions to it, so
as to make it a more useful tool in portfolio management.

All securities can be divided into parcels of any size.
Let R be the expected return of the assets:
R = (R1, R2,.....Rn)T
Let V be the variance/covariance matrix. It is assumed to be positive definite. Пѓ ij = cov (Ri , Rj)
A portfolio X of asset weights is expressed as:
X = (x1, x2,..........xn)T.
[Note that HT denotes the transpose of a matrix H and xi denotes the weight on asset and ∑xi =
1, where i=1 to n]
The expected return of a portfolio is given by E[RX] = XT E[R], and the variance of the portfolio
by σX = XT VX. Thus, the mean return of the portfolio X satisfies: Mean = Rx= XT ¯R = ∑xi
ВЇRI, where i = 1 to n.
The variance Vx of portfolio return is given by: where Пѓi2 is the variance of return i , and Пѓij
measures the covariance between returns i and j . We denote the standard deviation of X by ПѓX.
Often, it is not possible to be short on assets. In that case, we need to add a constraint that all
portfolio weights shall be zero or above: xi ≥ 0.(Mz)
If we search for maximizing the expected return for a given variance, we have to solve the
following optimization problem:
As explained by Markowitz, the portfolio selection problem can be formulated as a quadratic
program. We can also search for minimizing the variance given a level of expected return. For a
portfolio containing n assets, the minimum variance portfolio is a solution of: Where E* is the
level of expected return.
Thus we get the efficient frontier as shown

The harassment of Muslims was at its peak mostly after the 9/11 tragedy. Kathy, Zeitoun s wife
experiences this when a couple of kids try to take off her hijab resulting in cursing at them in the
most crucial way. Egger writes about the background life of Kathy and how she decides to convert
to Muslim in whom she feels more comfortable and appreciates their ways. Despite her efforts to

The Stigma Of The Homeless
During the Great Depression, the homeless were almost glamorized as vagabonds who rode the
rails with their belongings neatly tied up in a bandana over their shoulder. Today, the homeless can
be anyone: children or women escaping an abusive relationship or those who just cannot afford to
pay for housing. While some homeless people maintain employment of some sort, long term
homelessnessis usually a function of the inverse; either severely under employed or no income
stream at all with which to pay rent and utilities. While quite a bit of academic research has shown
the need to focus on societal causes of homelessness, people who are homeless seem to be
increasingly perceived and treated within a paradigm of individual sickness. While... Show more

Rice, April 2014) and that between 5 25% of those have some sort of pet. While it appears that

within the homeless population. Homeless respondents also have stated that the general public
tends to treat them better or are more likely to talk to them because of their pets, with the pets
acting as social facilitators (Ibed). Pet ownership can strike such a strong emotional chord within a
homeless person that it has been found within research that had not specifically focused on pet
ownership within the homeless community have identified pets as a self reported barrier to having
access to social support mechanisms. This attachment to their pets are many times so strong that
they (homeless) would sacrifice personal healthcare and other social services if no one was

the industry, they have to initiate a serious overhaul of the strategic management of managing funds.
Jet Blue managers have not managed the company s assets efficiently and effectively. Because
of the September 11 terrorists attack, Jet Blue s Return on Assets (ROA) has drastically dropped

Photographic Reality
A Photographic Reality
Chaos, a state of utter confusion or disorder. Chaos, a word often used to describe the scene of a
tragic event such as a natural disaster or an act of terrorism. Whether in movies or in real life we
have all seen chaos at work. Smoke and screams fill the air. Law enforcement franticly runs about
trying to help in any way possible. Reporters and photographers arrive in swarms to get the inside
scoop on the next ground breaking tragedy. When the Boston bombing happened on April 15, 2013
there was no exception to this pattern of events. Many photographs were taken of the aftermath, but
one photo in particular seems to have captured the frantic atmosphere of the moment. It depicts an
older man who, mid run, had been knocked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The image I was viewing was not graphic, nor even artistically formatted. This photo had caused
a strong reaction for one reason, context. The Syrian revolution has been going on since March
of 2011. As of August of 2015, more than 250,000 people have been killed and 12 million
displaced because of the conflict (CNN Library). A total of three people died during the Boston
bombings. The drastic difference between these statistics really puts things into scale. While some
news coverage has been given to the tragedies occurring in Syria, over the years we have become
desensitized to it. When a tragic bombing occurs in our homeland, people take notice. There are
endless photos and stories written about the event. The Syrians apologetic sign sent a message of a
little more than just condolences. It took the tragic event of our country and diminished it. By
reminding us that bombings like this happen every day in Syria. For them it a common
occurrence. I don t mean to say that the Boston bombing was not a terrible incident, but when
compared to the happenings over in Syria it makes you wonder where our priorities lie.
Without the context of the Boston bombing photo, the photo of the Syrian townspeople would
have had a much lesser effect on my emotions. By piggy backing on the United states tragedy
they amplified their message. When I go back and look at that chaotic photo of the fallen runner
I see a man, who is alive, and will live to run another race. I can now see straight through the
message my eyes want me to believe. Photos can often have a broadcasted message that the artist
or photographer wants you to see, but it is our job to view things without bias or relying on prior

Jane Eyre, The Great Divorce, And The Importance Of The Heart
William Faulkner once said that in order for a work to be considered good writing, it needs to
display a conflict within the heart. The three summer reading books, Jane Eyre, The Great Divorce,
and The Importance of Being Earnest, all certainly present some internal conflict within major
characters. Through these conflicts, the major characters have to make decisions in the books and
these decisions have grand consequences. These decisions teach the readers very valuable moral
lessons. Through displaying internal conflicts within characters like Jack, Jane, and Ikey, authors
Oscar Wilde, C.S. Lewis, and Charlotte Bronte follow Faulkner s definition of good writing while
also teaching the readers about morality and giving wisdom about life. The first work that displays
a conflictof the heart is The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. In this play, a character
known as Jack has to make a very tough decision that involves the woman that he loves. After
lying to everyone about having a troublesome brother and faking his identity, Ernest decides to
attempt at killing off Ernest in the Second Act. He goes to Miss Prism and says He died abroad;
in Paris, in fact. I had a telegram last night from the manager of the Grand Hotel (Wilde 29). This
decision within seems as if it was really difficult. The reader obviously knows that Jack has an
internal conflict since the girl he loves, Gwendolyn, only likes him because of his name. This
decision to kill off Ernest

  • 2. Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma and burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of medical and nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospitalsystems are well known for their open door policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether or not they can pay for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other providers by ownership. Some are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments, while others are non profit. However, they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access to care for all individuals with limited or no access to health care due to their finical circumstances, insurance status or health condition (What is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015). Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will frequently show up in the emergency room. Even if their care is not critical or an emergency, these patients cannot be turned away. A study performed by an urban institute estimated that the costs of uncompensated care to these hospitals were as high as forty five billion dollars in 2013. Government programs will help with approximately 65% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My shifts were 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. The fair looked like a very simple job and I felt confident to work. I never had any job experience prior to this and I assumed the work wasn t going to be difficult. It was great to be able to work and earn myself some money over the summer. My mom told me I could spend it however I d like. A month after I signed up for PlayLand, I went to the interviews. It was very simple and everyone there was friendly. A way I dealt with the problem was to bring two locks with me and I always bring it with me to the employee locker room. On August 20th, this is the first day and the first time I got to swipe my card and I was very excited. As I walked in and grabbed my uniform and got ready to work. Within a few hours of standing outside in the sun, I felt so tired and exhausted. I didn t want to continue to work anymore, I realized how difficult it was to make money. At the end of the shift, I was completely out of it. I swiped my card out and got onto my bike and rode home. Fast forward to the next day of work, I was feeling really worn out and lost all energy to work. I went in and changed into my uniform then I went out to stand in the sun again. This time, I noticed that if I try to enjoy what I was doing time could pass by quicker because my shifts were 6 hours I had quite of time left on the job. • 4. Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com). Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse, individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Sharing An Underused Asset So you ve accepted the fact that your car is dangerously depreciating in value every second it s parked in the driveway but, you still have questions. We realised since launching our business early this year that concept of sharing an underused asset is new to many people! Sure, sharing goods between family members and close friends has always been common practice. But how exactly did the idea of sharing and earning some extra cash from an existing asset become so easily accessible for everyone? Advancement in technology and the rise of digital technology have led to laborious tasks becoming automated. For anyone that s experienced the turmoil of unexpected item in bagging area during the weekly grocery shop, the changes not always a welcome edition to daily life. One positive result is the increased access to free information, meaning that consumers are much more informed and rely less on traditional marketplaces and in some cases can choose to deviate from them altogether. The cost to produce goods has gone down, and with many goods and services almost free this has led to a boost in efficiency and individuals starting to networking with each other. While most people aren t against the idea of the earning some extra cash by lending someone something they already own, they don t want the hassle of taking care of all the little details or damage to their property and that s where companies like us step in! In our case, our online platform enables users to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Computer Aided Dermatology The different methods that fall under computer aided diagnosis are more variable in diagnosing different attributes of melanoma as opposed to physicians. In computer diagnosis, patients are able to undergo several, but not all types of noninvasive diagnoses such as teledermatology, mole mapping and monitoring, automated diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for automatic diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for noninvasive measurement of the depth of melanomas, and confocal microscopy of histopathology. (Elbaum, 2002) With the variability in types of diagnoses, individuals have the ability to choose what they want view and analyze in regards to their skin, whereas physicians are limited by the methods they utilize (ABCDE, Ugly Duckling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A popular technique utilized by dermatologists to diagnose melanoma includes dermoscopy, which is a noninvasive technique for taking high resolution images of skin lesions by making the superficial layers of the skin translucent. (Dreiseitl, Binder, Hable, Kittler, 2009) Dermoscopy is a technique that allows dermatologists to view lesions and moles at a larger magnitude yielding to a more accurate diagnosis through the ABCDE method and Glasgow 7 point checklist. While dermoscopy has aided physicians in accurately diagnosing melanoma, computer aided dermoscopy has been proven to have higher accuracy in diagnosing patients. In one study, expert physicians scored a sensitivity of 81% and specificity of 95%, whereas the computer aided dermoscopy scored 93% on sensitivity and 95% specificity. (Barzegari, Ghaninezhad, Mansoori, Taheri, Naraghi, Asgari, 2005) The high sensitivity and specificity of the computer diagnosis is the result of the lack of bias computers have in comparison to physicians and dermatologists. In computer aided dermoscopy, the computer compares the patient s lesions and moles to a database of previously recorded and imputed parameters. Thus, computer diagnosis is accurate to the extent of the set parameters and is reproducible in results as opposed to trained physicians who have variable ranges for specificity and sensitivity due to bias. Similarly, in the dermoscopy of small lesions, expert dermatologists scored an average of 71% sensitivity and 49% specificity whereas the computer vision system achieved 98% sensitivity and 44% specificity. (Friedman, Gutkowicz Krusin, Farber, Warycha, Schneider Kels, Papastathis, Mihm, King, Prieto, Kopf, Polsky, Rabinovitz, Oliviero, Cognetta, Rigel, Marghoob, Rivers, Johr, Grant Kels, Tsao, 2008) Especially in smaller lesions, the computer vision system had a relatively ... Cannibalism Or The Consumption Of Human Flesh By Human Cannibalism Culture Cannibalism or the consumption of human flesh by humans is an act in which many people feel uneasy about and is ethically immoral to participate in ( Cannibalism , 2008: 427). However, it is a ritual that is practiced in some parts of the world. There are still cultures that feel that the eating of humans by humans (Lawless, 2006: 435), is perfectly conventional and acceptable. This may create a culture shock for many individuals that don t engage in such rituals The reasons why people participate in cannibalism are due to many factors, but it all narrows down to the culture that an individual is introduced and/or indulged in. • 9. Theories Of Progressive Education Progressive Learning Theory in the US Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as, Progressive Education. Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August FrГ¶bel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated. Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of pedagogy as an academic discipline. • 12. The Reform Of The Health Care Reform Essay The latest health care reform has done what few policies manage to do sicken both republicans and progressive democrats. While we can all agree that a reform of the health care system is sorely needed, we must also acknowledge that Obamacare is not the cure all we so desperately require. Rather, President Obama, like a medieval barber, prescribed a health care reform that treated the symptoms of our flawed system rather than the actual disease. The subsidization of health insuranceproviders has proven ineffective at providing affordable coverage for all. Certainly one is likely to hear the various incendiary talking points of both the proponents and opponents. Whether it s the republican candidates blaspheming Obamacare as socialism, or the administration praising the success of health care for all, it is difficult to actually find constructive dialogue. We are purview to many sound bites, but few actual solutions. We have witnessed heated debates, but rarely do we witness intelligent discourse. If beneficial reform is to be crafted and implemented, we must first acknowledge the issues and inconsistencies of the current system and begin to explore alternate methods of providing health care to the American people. This diagnoses of the flaws in our health care system must start with identifying and redefining the social constructs of America. • 13. Pope Leo XIII Advantages And Disadvantages Pope Leon XIII marked that history of society with his encyclical because of the moment that was written. The industrial revolution was a transformation in the history of the world with the creation of job s factories, the origin of two classes: the wealthy and the poor, and the migration of people from rural to urban. Pope Leon XIII, could see that advantages and disadvantages of the industrial revolution because the industrial revolution was violating human rights he made some arguments on the common goods, the right of the workers and the private property. Sharing benefits between member of the community is a principal that Pope Leo XIII is transmitting in his encyclical. The common good is an important quality that society should develop every day. The church has been always in behalf of the poor, for that reason Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as way to support his idea of the common good, He cited, There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold (Acts 4:34). This passage support his idea of common good in the way that if the wealth people could provide or share their goods to the needy, poverty will decrease with the help of the church and the state. In this argument he talks to those who practices almsgiving and those who ignore to help the needy (22) he quoted, And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. (matt 25:40). This argument has a good intentions, but I according to his source matt 25:40, it does not applied to the moment in the history and neither today because if people could follow that norm of helping the needy, it would not be extreme poverty as it was and it is. So, I do not consider this specific passage as essential for this argument. However, he mentioned the state should be responsible of the common good. He defined the state as the reasonable institution to take care of the administration of the commonwealth (32). His bases his argument in one of his encyclicals named, On the Christian Constitution of the state before Rerum Novarum, this encyclical explains Another way the Pope Leo XIII ... • 15. How Sugar Affects The Melting Rate Of Ice Research The Effect of Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice. Abstract: The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in them or not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the lowering of the freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar. Introduction: I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There were two different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar. Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the molecules become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you freeze the water, the water freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice develops. Sugar makes the ice harder to form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering the freezing point, it keeps the ice from re freezing as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ... I had the feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task given to me. В—Carl Jung. Reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one s body decomposes, but one is reborn in another body. It is the belief that one has lived before and will live again in another body after death. Carl Jung is one of the thousands of people that believe reincarnation is possible. The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. Elsewhere Caesar complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans, and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. Gladiators were considered to fight with pride, they honoured their Gods with sacrifices and prayer for victory and they honoured their traditions and heritage, often being armed in weapons and armour, and having fighting styles originating from their country of origin. The fame, together with the luxury the gladiators experienced when not training or fighting adds to the general feeling of nobility. I suppose its this outward nobility, together with the objective of the Gladiatorial fights to reduce aggression within the general public, that made the fights seem morally and ethically acceptable to the Roman masses. Anyway, the Gladiatorfights would be held immediately after the midday executions; the Romans would at this point be more interested in skill and prize than blood. I suppose the Gladiatorial fights were somewhat a trademark of the Roman Empire and indeed Roman Civilisation. I expect that this has something to do with the fact that Rome was built upon bloody conquest, and the Gladiatorial fights amplify both bloody conquest and indeed a noble luxurious life. There was also an aim for all Gladiators, that turned savage blood lust entertainment into an acceptable tournament of the highest calibre; gladiators could be given the wooden sword, symbolising freedom; the fact that the Gladiators are working for a goal, rather than just killing each ... • 41. The Significance of Edward Hyde s Character in The Strange... The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1886. It concerns a lawyer, Gabriel Utterson, who investigates the strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the reclusive Mr. Edward Hyde. This novel represents an ideology in Western culture; the perpetual conflict between humanity s virtuosity and immorality. It is interpreted as an accurate guidebook to the Victorian era s belief of the duality of human nature. Stevenson uses this powerful description to convey and portray a man who comes across as mysterious and dangerous. Stevenson makes him more mystifying when Enfield continues, I can t describe him. And it s not want of memory; for I declare I can see him this moment. (Page 15) This immediately brings a sense of a man with deformities that can t be described. Stevenson uses this to confuse the reader and amplify the sense of foreboding. Surely when one can see somebody in their mind, they can describe how they look and describe their deformities especially? Not being able to describe Hyde shows that he isn t a normal human; he s something far more inhumane. Utterson meets Hyde when Hyde is trying to go through the door where the novel started. After talking very briefly with Hyde, Mr. Utterson gets the impression that Hyde prefers the solitude as he quickly unlocks the door to enter. This time the reader gets an accurate account of how Hyde looks like. Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish (Page 23) is the initial line to the description. This could create the sense that Hyde is malnourished and still not fully formed yet. In the end of the eighteenth century the Founding Fathers of the newly established America dealt with the difficulties of creating a country with strong political, social, and economic power. With the writing of the Articles of Confederation the country had now developed a national government, but was weak and ineffective. This was not accepted because the richer southern states disagreed to pay for the poorer northern states. Piaget s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky s sociocultural theory had a profound impact on the field of cognitive development, and their contributions continue to influence psychologist, educators and researchers today. Both Vygotsky and Piaget s theories provide a different perspective on how children learn, and by looking at both theories, we can better understand a child s cognitive development. In the first stage, Piaget looked at understanding object permanence which is recognizing if an object still exist even when it is out of sight (Cardwell Flanagan,2004). Children below the age of two failed to grasp the concept. Next, Piaget examined if children, in pre operational stage, could understand the logic. He did this by seeing if children could understand that despite the change of the appearance of an object, it would remain the same (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). In his conservation experiment, Piaget showed children identical glass full of equal amount of liquid. He then pours the liquid of one the glasses in a taller narrow glass. After which, he would ask the child, what glass has more? . Inevitably, the child would say the tall the narrow glass, believing it contained more liquid because of the height of the glass (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). Piaget believed that this was caused by centration , and was based on perception instead of logic (Cardwell Flanagan, 2004). The importance of Piaget s work cannot be understated. His theory of cognitive development continues to influence research today. In a recent study, researchers decided to take a closer look at early brain development as it pertains to Piaget s sensorimotor stage. They discovered that the nerve pathway that carries information such as eye, head, neck and trunk coordination is one of the earliest central nervous systems to myelinate, allowing the infant s early sucking, grasping, and the following objects just as Piaget describes in his early stage of development (Lefman ... This theory aids the process of portfolio construction by providing a quantitative take on it. It integrates the field of quantitative analysis with portfolio management. Mean varianceanalysis has found wide applications both inside and outside financial economics. However it is based on certain assumptions which do not hold good in practice. Hence there have been certain revisions to it, so as to make it a more useful tool in portfolio management. Mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All securities can be divided into parcels of any size. Let R be the expected return of the assets: R = (R1, R2,.....Rn)T Let V be the variance/covariance matrix. It is assumed to be positive definite. Пѓ ij = cov (Ri , Rj) A portfolio X of asset weights is expressed as: X = (x1, x2,..........xn)T. [Note that HT denotes the transpose of a matrix H and xi denotes the weight on asset and ∑xi = 1, where i=1 to n] The expected return of a portfolio is given by E[RX] = XT E[R], and the variance of the portfolio by ПѓX = XT VX. Thus, the mean return of the portfolio X satisfies: Mean = Rx= XT ВЇR = ∑xi ВЇRI, where i = 1 to n. The variance Vx of portfolio return is given by: where Пѓi2 is the variance of return i , and Пѓij measures the covariance between returns i and j . We denote the standard deviation of X by ПѓX. Often, it is not possible to be short on assets. In that case, we need to add a constraint that all portfolio weights shall be zero or above: xi ≥ 0.(Mz) If we search for maximizing the expected return for a given variance, we have to solve the following optimization problem: As explained by Markowitz, the portfolio selection problem can be formulated as a quadratic program. We can also search for minimizing the variance given a level of expected return. For a portfolio containing n assets, the minimum variance portfolio is a solution of: Where E* is the level of expected return. Thus we get the efficient frontier as shown ... The managers at Southwest Airlines are maximizing the use of the shareholder s funds. On the other hand, Jet Blue is doing very poorly in utilizing their shareholder s funds. But in fairness, they were able to bring their percentage down in 2004. In order for Jet Blue Management to recover and compete against the industry, they have to initiate a serious overhaul of the strategic management of managing funds. Jet Blue managers have not managed the company s assets efficiently and effectively. • 54. Photographic Reality A Photographic Reality Chaos, a state of utter confusion or disorder. Chaos, a word often used to describe the scene of a tragic event such as a natural disaster or an act of terrorism. Whether in movies or in real life we have all seen chaos at work. Smoke and screams fill the air. Law enforcement franticly runs about trying to help in any way possible. Reporters and photographers arrive in swarms to get the inside scoop on the next ground breaking tragedy. When the Boston bombing happened on April 15, 2013 there was no exception to this pattern of events. Many photographs were taken of the aftermath, but one photo in particular seems to have captured the frantic atmosphere of the moment. It depicts an older man who, mid run, had been knocked ... The Syrian revolution has been going on since March of 2011. As of August of 2015, more than 250,000 people have been killed and 12 million displaced because of the conflict (CNN Library). A total of three people died during the Boston bombings. The drastic difference between these statistics really puts things into scale. While some news coverage has been given to the tragedies occurring in Syria, over the years we have become desensitized to it. When a tragic bombing occurs in our homeland, people take notice. There are endless photos and stories written about the event. The Syrians apologetic sign sent a message of a little more than just condolences. I don t mean to say that the Boston bombing was not a terrible incident, but when compared to the happenings over in Syria it makes you wonder where our priorities lie. Without the context of the Boston bombing photo, the photo of the Syrian townspeople would have had a much lesser effect on my emotions. By piggy backing on the United states tragedy they amplified their message. When I go back and look at that chaotic photo of the fallen runner I see a man, who is alive, and will live to run another race. I can now see straight through the message my eyes want me to believe. Photos can often have a broadcasted message that the artist or photographer wants you to see, but it is our job to view things without bias or relying on prior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three summer reading books, Jane Eyre, The Great Divorce, and The Importance of Being Earnest, all certainly present some internal conflict within major characters. Through these conflicts, the major characters have to make decisions in the books and these decisions have grand consequences. These decisions teach the readers very valuable moral lessons. Lewis, and Charlotte Bronte follow Faulkner s definition of good writing while also teaching the readers about morality and giving wisdom about life. The first work that displays a conflictof the heart is The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
