Research Paper On Liquid Latex
From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in
the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost
90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every
independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected
greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one
of our final measurements.
In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a
preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition.
When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result
could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an
unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be
used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with
proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates
deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the
tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%,
or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and
alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex.
The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g
compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more
effective if we had used unused formalin.
Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the
mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and
quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in
comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed
from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable
source of facts and statistics based on

The Construction Industry Has Developed A Reputation For...
Ethics Paper Over the years the construction industry has developed a reputation for shady deals and
untrustworthiness. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the industry and
the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors though there is
still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often times contractors
bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable positions. And after that
subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable sub contracts. However, not
all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific clauses that are inserted in an
attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and sub subcontractors. Conditional
payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of clauses that attempt to do such work.
Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect the contractor and owner from each other
with regard to change orders, it is included to force each party to put changes into writing. For the
most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes must be made. So contractors and owners
find themselves in yet another situation where both sides have the opportunity to be as unsavory as
they can be. As the industry progresses into the future, many additional contract clauses will pop up.
They will attempt to shift more responsibility and blame off the

The Effects Of Environmental Influence On The Environment
Does human interference benefit or hurt the environment and does human advancement necessarily
mean environmental degradation? Earth contains multiple ecosystems, from the dense forests to the
vast grasslands, the blazing hot deserts to the frigid tundra, and from the freshwaters to the seawaters.
Webster s Dictionary defines ecosystem as the complex of a community of organisms and its
environment functioning as an ecological unit . Each individual ecosystem has its own inhabitants
along with its own special environment. The inhabitants, whether it be animals or plants, have adapted
to specifically thrive in their respectful conditions. Humans, on the other hand, can bounce around to
and from different ecosystems, even if it is only for a short time. Technological advances have
empowered us to survive and thrive even in the harshest conditions. Whenever we move from place to
place, we seem to leave our mark. With technology continuing to push the envelope and human
population rising, our reach continues to grow along with our carbon footprint. In return, our
expansion may be causing nature to retreat. So how can we combat this decline? In today s modern
age, human interference may be necessary to preserve what s left of nature because of what happens to
the environment in consequence to human advancements. The world is your oyster, figuratively or
literally? As hunters and gatherers, our ancestors thrived off of the land they lived on, and took what it
gave them. Today,

Canadian Mining Companies Are Responsible For Numerous...
Canada is home to some of the largest mining corporations in the world. In fact, seventy five percent
of the world s mining companies are based in Canada (Dean, 2013). These companies are involved in
the extraction of numerous resources, including silver, petroleum, bitumen and coal. Canadian mining
operations also have a particular focus in gold, as twenty one of the country s top forty mining
companies are involved in gold extraction. With billion dollar annual revenues and interests in almost
every continent, these multinational companies are making a large impact around the globe (Canadian
Mining Journal, 2014). However, these impacts are not necessarily positive. Canadian mining
corporations have failed to implement CSR policies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Environmental and Human Rights Violations Most mining projects aim to exploit territories of great
ecological richness and/or the lands inhabited by... ethnic minorities (U.S. Office, 2013). Many times,
when mining operations commit environmental violations, they commit human rights violations as
well. For this reason, it is hard to separate these two types of violations. Large scale, open pit mining
by Canadian corporations is responsible for a myriad of environmental infractions, not only affecting
ecosystems, but also having a profound, direct or indirect, impact on the lives of millions living in
Latin America.
1.1 Water Violations
Water is one of the most affected resources in the region due to mining operations as mass mining
extractions are having detrimental effects on surface and ground water (Cereceda, 2007). First, there is
the problem of Acid Mine Drainage, or AMD. Naturally, sulphuric acid is produced when sulphides in
rocks are exposed to water and air. AMD, however, is a result of this process being greatly magnified.
Large quantities of rocks containing sulphides are excavated in these open pit mines, reacting to water
and air and creating sulphuric acid. This acid leaches out of the rock, sometimes for

The Hacked World Order Summary
The world as we know it is becoming more and more interconnected technologically. A mere decade
or so ago, the internet and the idea that people would spend much of their lives on it was an alien
concept, only floated by nerds and futurologists. However, as the internet and computers came into
their own, the brief, almost carefree toward computer and the internet faded quickly, to be replaced by
a more measured and cautious attitude of realism. This is because, like every other piece of
technology, every nation in the world immediately took computers and started attempting to
understand how to use them for their own personal/national gain. In The Hacked World Order, the
author, Adam Segal explores how nations incorporate computers and the technology of the 21st
century into their arsenal and utilize them both against and for each other. Segal does this way that
appeals to the average person, but if approaching the book from an academic standpoint an extremely
cautious attitude is in order when exploring the different arguments the book makes. ... Show more

internet, while containing some merit at first, is going away quickly, with governments rapidly finding
ways to exert control over the use of cyberspace both in their borders and out. The second main idea is
that cyberwarfare and computers present new angles of conflict from conventional weaponry such as
the intended targets, method of implementation, potential impacts, and level of damage caused. The

The Negative Effects Of Space Travel
Introduction 400 According to the Oxford dictionary, outer space is defined to be the physical universe
beyond the atmosphere of earth (Oxford, 2017). Space travel specifically long term assignments can
be difficult due to the extreme environment consisting of a hard vacuum, high levels of radiation and
microgravity being hazardous to the health and wellbeing of the crew. The controversary regarding
space travel is regarding the adverse effects on the individuals health. As humans are not able to
properly adapt physically and biologically to space, a series of extensive training must take place
before space travel is allowed. Overall the training period for an astronaut is approximately 18 months
or longer depending on experience. There are variety of procedures astronauts must go through such
as using the Space Vehicle Mock Up Facility which gives a simulation of how they will be operating
the space shuttle and how they will move about, the KC 35 which provides them with roughly 20
seconds of weightlessness, a machine called the Precision Air Bearing Floor assists astronauts when
moving larger objects in space and lastly the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory which allows them to
practice extravehicular activities i.e. space walks (NASA, 2009). Astronauts are required to float
underwater for up to seven hours while operating a full sized model of a space vehicle (NASA, 2009).
Along with that, they must learn medical procedures, survival training in case of emergency and

The Israeli and Palestinian Gaza Conflict Essay
Broad international consensus regarding the political and legal controversies of the Israeli and
Palestinian Gaza conflict has been minimal at best. At its worst it has fueled the controversies created
by the United Nations Fact Finding Mission, through which, both sides maintain their positions and
justification for their actions. In ordered to obtain an opinion on this issue one must examine the
factual historical background of the Gaza Conflict. By identifying the major legal and political
discrepancies, observing the perspectives of those who defend Israeli actions, and those who have a
strong critique against those actions we can grasp the complexity of this issue and make an assessment
of actions on both sides. In 2005 Israel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
International outcry caused the creation of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza
Conflict. This conflict has brought about legal and political controversies pertaining to the use of
force, obligations of Palestinian and Israeli forces to use precaution pertaining to civilian population
and infrastructure, illegality of the blockade, and human rights abuses by Israeli defense forces which
still elude full resolution and clarity. Based on the United Nations Fact Finding Missions on the Gaza
Conflict (aka the Goldstone Report) defenders of Israeli actions such as Golda Begin would start by
arguing that the fact finding mission came in with pre conceived biases against Israel. Alan
Dershowitz believes the fact finding mission is far more accusatory of Israeli actions, far less balanced
in its criticism of Hamas, far less honest in its evaluation of evidence, far less responsible in drawing
its conclusions, far more biased against Israeli than Palestinian witnesses, and far more willing to draw
adverse inferences of intentionally from Israeli conduct and statements than from comparable
Palestinian conduct and statements. (Dershowitz, pg.1) A common theme in the report is the
accusation that Israel instituted military policies which led to the intentional death of Palestinian
civilians. Dershowitz believes that this is the reason the Goldstone Report chose to ignore

Nirvana s Lead Singer Commit Suicide
Natalie Boan Nirvana s Lead Singer Commits Suicide Kurt Donald Cobain, the lead singer for the
band Nirvana was born on February 20, 1967, and committed suicide on April 5, 1994. The talented
performer became a rock legend when he started his band Nirvana in 1988. The night of April 5, 1994,
Cobain committed suicide in the guest house behind his Seattle home. As a child, Cobain had to deal
with the constant yelling and fighting of his parents, up until they divorced when he was only nine
years old. After the divorce, Cobain became secluded and introverted, as would any child. He went off
to live with his father and would visit his mother and sisters over the weekend. When his father
decided to remarry, the young boy resented the woman and her children. To brighten the difficult time

The Iowa State Teaching Standards
The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an
effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how
the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one
standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain
how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student
teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being
my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods
(standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards
are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate
for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content
and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math
standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and
answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a
concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the
needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking

Aristotle And St. Augustine
Aristotle and St. Augustine both wrote philosophical works in order to teach us something that they
have learned, in hopes that we will apply it to our own lives. However, Augustine uses a type of
autobiographical style in addition to treatise in his works, while Aristotle only uses the treatise style in
his works. What were they both thinking when they were writing these famous works? Did they use
their respective styles to achieve a goal?
Both authors used their work to teach lessons in a way that would best communicate to the reader with
relation to their own life experiences and careers. Both authors wrote their work as a way of
acknowledging their own mortality. In other words, Aristotle spent a significant part of his life as a
teacher of philosophy, and an earlier part of his learning and Augustine spent most of his later life
teaching the Christian ideals. Both writers wished to teach people after they reached the end of their
life and were to continue to the next one. In addition, they took the opportunity to communicate to
those, during their times and after, who they were not able to speak to directly.
Aristotle, Greek philosopher and author of works including the Nichomachean Ethics, wrote in a style
in which the writer uses methodological discussion in order to reach a conclusion, also known as
treatise. Aristotle, as opposed to St. Augustine and other religious persons, spent his life learning
philosophy and presumably made it a goal to teach others,

Mark Antony And Popular Culture
Mark Antony and Popular Culture: Masculinity and the Construction of an Icon by Rachael Kelly, is a
pathbreaking analysis of how Antony (the pop culture icon, hopeless lover and drunkard) differs so
substantially from Antonius (the historical figure, esteemed general and statesman). Kelly successfully
lays out with great quality and depth how the mythology itself performs a deeper socio cultural
function. In order to further examine and engage with this idea, this informative and original study
employs a socio ideological analysis of a series of seven culturally resonating screen texts dating
from, for example, Cleopatra (Cecil B DeMille, 1934) to the television series Rome (HBO, BBC, RAI,
RAI2, 2005 2007). This meticulously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other important texts that were not examined such as silent films, comedies, animation, and
pornography all of which have told the story of Mark Antony in some way or another at some point
were purposefully neglected. Due to Kelly s analysis only considering those films that follow the
genre conventions of the historical epic, meaningful information about hegemonic masculinity as it is
encoded within these genres is neglected and it does not help that often times, discourses in a
historical epic are embedded within Western gender and identity construction and therefore go unseen
to audiences. However, this exemplar book still greatly contributes to the fields of gender, history and
media by taking gender studies to a new direction by probing the purpose and boundaries of
hegemonic masculinity within Western cultural and political discourse. Students, scholars and fans of
Mark Antony and gender will learn greatly from this monograph and in which the Antonian
mythography has been translated into the complex semiological system that is

Photographic Reality
A Photographic Reality
Chaos, a state of utter confusion or disorder. Chaos, a word often used to describe the scene of a tragic
event such as a natural disaster or an act of terrorism. Whether in movies or in real life we have all
seen chaos at work. Smoke and screams fill the air. Law enforcement franticly runs about trying to
help in any way possible. Reporters and photographers arrive in swarms to get the inside scoop on the
next ground breaking tragedy. When the Boston bombing happened on April 15, 2013 there was no
exception to this pattern of events. Many photographs were taken of the aftermath, but one photo in
particular seems to have captured the frantic atmosphere of the moment. It depicts an older man who,
mid run, had been knocked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The image I was viewing was not graphic, nor even artistically formatted. This photo had caused a
strong reaction for one reason, context. The Syrian revolution has been going on since March of 2011.
As of August of 2015, more than 250,000 people have been killed and 12 million displaced because of
the conflict (CNN Library). A total of three people died during the Boston bombings. The drastic
difference between these statistics really puts things into scale. While some news coverage has been
given to the tragedies occurring in Syria, over the years we have become desensitized to it. When a
tragic bombing occurs in our homeland, people take notice. There are endless photos and stories
written about the event. The Syrians apologetic sign sent a message of a little more than just
condolences. It took the tragic event of our country and diminished it. By reminding us that bombings
like this happen every day in Syria. For them it a common occurrence. I don t mean to say that the
Boston bombing was not a terrible incident, but when compared to the happenings over in Syria it
makes you wonder where our priorities lie.
Without the context of the Boston bombing photo, the photo of the Syrian townspeople would have
had a much lesser effect on my emotions. By piggy backing on the United states tragedy they
amplified their message. When I go back and look at that chaotic photo of the fallen runner I see a
man, who is alive, and will live to run another race. I can now see straight through the message my
eyes want me to believe. Photos can often have a broadcasted message that the artist or photographer
wants you to see, but it is our job to view things without bias or relying on prior

Story Of An Hour Naturalism Analysis
This literature unit took place in the 1850 s to the 1914 this time period was focused on the subject of

is the belief that human begins had no control over the individualism identities and were of the mercy

controlled over their fate. The pieces of literature that show this is An Episode of War , My Bondage

Idealism In W. D. Valgardson s The Novice
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the cost becomes prohibitive. William F. Buckley Jr.
Here, William F. Buckley Jr. sends a warning: that idealism itself is fine, but idealism which threatens
reality can have prohibitive consequences. W.D. Valgardson s short story, The Novice, shows a sailor
reflecting on his life, and his fate, as he and what s left of his crew wade in Alberta s Lake Narrows,
waiting for sunrise. In WD Valgardson s, The Novice the reader should come to the realization that
idealism may be dangerous when it skews the truth, but that it is ultimately necessary in the face of
misfortune, so one may maintain hope in the face of challenging obstacles. In The Novice the

The Neuroscience in Human Functions
In neuroscience there are many components that play important roles in the many human functions.
They are part of the reasons why human are complex and can perform complex actions. Categories
that show the importance of neuroscience is divisions and subdivisions of the human nervous system,
neurotransmitters receptors, neuromuscular, vision, audition, somatosensory, olfaction, gustatory,
emotion, learning and memory, and communication.
The divisions and subdivisions of the human nervous system consist of the central nervous system
(CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord. In the
brain anatomy it consists of the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe occipital lobe, cerebellum,
and medulla oblongata. They all play in major components of the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain.
The forebrain consists of the telencephalon and diencephalon. In the telencephalon consists of the
cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, and limbic system. The diencephalon consists of the thalamus and
hypothalamus. The next component of the brain is the midbrain also known as the mesencephalon.
The mesencephalon is composed of the tectum and tegmentum. The last part of the brain is the
hindbrain, which consists of the metencephalon and myelencephalon. The metencephalon consists of
the cerebellum and the pons. The myelencephalon, consists of the medulla oblongata. The next part of
the CNS is the spinal cord. It is the CNS tissue that extends caudally

Nas The Space Shuttle Columbia
On February 1, 2003, the space shuttle Columbia was just coming in for re entry after being in space
for almost a month, when it had spontaneously exploded over Texas. The seven crew members on the
shuttle had lost their lives and an unforgettable image is burned into the memory of the American
people. I will be discussing mainly about how USA Today has covered the disaster and provide
examples as to how the agency makes it seem as though NASA was the one responsible for the
disaster and how the news agency tries to make it seem as though NASA wasn t concerned about the
safety of its employees. I will also provide a small summary about each article that I mention.
For the first article, titled A year after Columbia, weaknesses remain at NASA by Alcestis Cooky
Oberg of USA Today, the author writes that NASA has not learned from its past mistakes with the
Columbia disaster and continue to put people in danger. This is an exaggeration by USA Today in an
effort to demote the image of NASA to the public. In the beginning paragraph of the article, the author
writes We always knew that overconfidence, carelessness and flawed decision making by NASA
leaders were recipes for doom. This is prove that the writer is trying to make NASA look guilty by
exaggerating the issue. Another aspect the author mentions is that In other words, there are few clear
signs that our space program is leaving past weaknesses behind, even after this second kick of a mule.

The Nature Of The And Hunter Gatherer Societies
Throughout history, humanities encounters with the other inhabitants of our planet have provoked
many questions and assumptions about the natural state of our being and our relationship with the the
world in which we live. A reflection from Sahlins on this relationship poses that Nature is to culture as
the constituted is to the constituting (1976: 209). Whereby nature as it exists in itself is the raw
material provided by the hand of God, waiting to be given meaningful shape and content by the mind
of man, culture provides a building plan for society with nature as the building materials (ibid:210).
The fate of nature once culturalized is its new mode of existence is then bound by the benefits of
exploitation by strongest of men. Through the well documented period of European colonialism in
Jahoda 2008 Wolf 2010, we can see how the assumptions of intellectual supremacy fed a negative
construction of the other , underpinning waves of colonial expansion and facilitating the domination of
pastoralist and hunter gatherer societies, ultimately serving to perpetuate economically exploitative
relationships. Fortunately for mankind, the remedial element of time and the critical thinking of the
enlightenment age has encouraged a more sympathetic consideration of radically different social
systems and cultural practices (Mason 1990 in Jahoda), and has inspired some thinkers (Locke 1689
Rousseau 1750) to envisage a more ethical, freer race of mankind. This essay

Review Of Degikup Basket By Louisa Keyser
Firstly, the craftwork that I would like to review is called Degikup Basket by Louisa Keyser. The artist
was also known as Datsolalee who was a Washoe Native American basket maker. Degikup Basket is
basically a large basket that consist small flat base but wider in the middle and then same diameter as
base for the hole at the top. In other words, the craft produced is almost similar to a bird nest which
has the concave side and smaller top. Moreover, the craft work get the people attention after it has
been documented by Keyser s sponsor who sees the art talent that she had. Apart from that, the
interesting part about the basket is it is created through a weaving process by hands which suggest that
it is carefully produced. It could be seen that the influence on the conception of this craftwork are
based on Keyser s living place. The exterior of the craftwork is likely to store a traditional value and
symbolize her community custom. The simplicity portrayed by the design indicates its friendly
function as it serves either as a place to keep miscellaneous items or acts as a collection to the people.
In addition, the craftwork also could be considered as unique due to its abstract design. Since Keyser
is from Washoe Indian tribe in Nevada, the materials she used to weave the basket are easily obtained
in the nature. The basket is constructed using three different things which are willow, Redbud and
bracken fern root. The important material is the willow because it is the

Mechanism Of The Electoral College
The electoral college is the mechanism established by the United States constitution for the indirect
election of the president of the United States and Vice president. The electoral college was created was
created because the founding fathers were afraid a tyrant could manipulate the system. Because a state
s electoral votes are equal to its representatives plus its two senators, and every state has two senators,
the electoral college gives excessive weight to states with small populations.
The Constitution assigns each state a number of electors that equals to the combined total of the state s
Senate and House of Representatives. The number of electoral votes per state is equal to the number of
its senators plus the number of its individuals

Literary Analysis American Born Chinese
American Born Chinese Literary Analysis The identity of a person can be considered their most
valuable possession, and losing sense of who you are can be the biggest loss. The comic book,
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang takes readers through the journey of a young Chinese
American boy named Jin and his efforts to hide and destroy any trace of his cultural roots to become
an all American boy instead. The comic published in 2006 is a great read for college students, young
adults, immigrants children, and descendants of the Chinese culture living in America. Inside the
book, the audience also encounters the story of The Monkey King, who is trying to be recognized by
everyone as, The Great Sage Equal of Heaven . This tale is told along Jin Wang s in order to enhance
the main characters embarrassment of their true identity, the changes both of them go under to become

He heads over to attend a very important party, but upon arrival he is denied entry for not wearing any
shoes. The Monkey King tries to explain the gatekeeper that he is none other but, The sovereign ruler
of Flower Fruit Mountain (p 14). Despite his royal title he is told, Look. You may be a king, you may
even be a deity, but you are still a monkey (p 15). This public humiliation infuriates the Monkey King
and causes him to kill everyone at the party and stays up all night thinking of ways to change his
identity. This particular example enriches that of Jin Wang s first day at an American School. When
introducing him, the teacher pronunciates his Chinese name incorrectly and one of his classmates even
makes the comment, My momma says chinese people eat dogs (p 32). Later on during lunch time the
other kids make fun of his Chinese cultural food and tell him to stay away. Just like the Monkey King,
Jin is infuriated for being excluded and decides to change his true self and cultural

Servant Leadership In Nursing
In both passages Greenleaf and in Biblical verses it is congruently agreed upon that servant leadership,
is a naturally calling that transcends both education and standard conformity. The only authority
deserving one s allegiance is that which is freely and knowingly granted to the led by the leader in
response to, and in proportion to the clearly evident servant nature of the leader (Greenleaf, 2002). In
anticipation of becoming a leader within a healthcare field this writer plans to utilize the teachings of
Matthew 20: 20 28 for guidance in becoming one with whom you serve. As mentioned in passage 26
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and

Essay about THE TRAIL OF TEARS
Quantie s weak body shuddered from a blast of cold wind. Still, the proud wife of the Cherokee chief
John Ross wrapped a woolen blanket around her shoulders and grabbed the reins. Leading the final
group of Cherokee Indians from their home lands, Chief John Ross thought of an old story that was
told by the chiefs before him, of a place where the earth and sky met in the west, this was the place
where death awaits. He could not help but fear that this place of death was where his beloved people
were being taken after years of persecution and injustice at the hands of white Americans, the proud
Indian people were being forced to vacate their lands, leaving behind their homes, businesses and
almost everything they owned while traveling to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Americans saw this act as the government sanctioning of brutality and inhuman treatment of the
Indian people and actively protested its passing.
President Jackson thought of the Indians as children who needed his guidance and justified their
removal as a way of protecting the Indians from the hatred and harassment of the white Americans and
as a measure that would allow them to govern themselves in a new land. A passage from the Removal
Act reads as follows, no state could achieve proper culture, civilization, and progress, as long as
Indians remained within its boundaries . This statement gives a more accurate description of how the
American Congress and the President thought of all Indians in America and the Removal Act gave
them the justification to further American expansion into Indian tribal lands.
By the late 1830s, more than 40 treaties were signed by what was then called the Five Civilized
Tribes, which consisted of the Cherokee, Choctaws, Chickasaws, Creeks, and Seminoles. Many of
these tribes exchanged over 40,000 miles of land in seven states. Three quarters of Alabama and
Florida, as well as parts of Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky and North Carolina became
property of the United States after they were traded for lands west of the Mississippi river, which is
now Northern Oklahoma. These treaties were signed by the Five Tribes in hopes that the American
government would allow them to retain some of their indigenous lands,

Differences Between Television And Television
After going over how meaning is made in television, in chapter seven, Mittell goes over how these
meanings on television can impact the way that we, as viewers, think about our lives and the world.
Mittell goes over the two most popular approaches that are usually used to understand the relationship
of the meanings conveyed through television and the real world, as a way to escape the world and as a
reflection of the world. The escapist and direct reflection approaches, according to Mittell, are not
accurate. The escapist approach, which states that people watch television to escape from real life,
falls short when considering the news, sports, talk shows, and other reality television programs due to
their connection to real life. The direct reflection approach, which states that programming on
television is true to viewers lives, fails to take into account fantasy programs and the representation
distortion that happens in non fiction programs. Mittell argues that the best way to understand the
relationship between television meanings and the way television viewers see the world is to use the
refraction approach. The refraction approach states that television meanings refract the world, where
programs alter the world around it and its meanings through particular techniques and forms like
cinematography and editing. An important term in Mittell s refraction approach is representation.
Mittell defines representation as, taking facets of the real world and presenting them

Spirited Away Essay
Give 110% this quote is usually uttered to athletes who are struggling to find motivation or to push
through a workout. It is pretty obviously a hyperbole. We usually over emphasize what we want our
children to learn. It seems that Miyazaki followed this pattern in his film Spirited Away, specifically in
his character Chihiro. In the story Chihiro gives 110%. She is always humble and willing to do
anything with very little personal gain involved. Chihiro is a very idealistic representation of how to
be selfless, which is not possible to apply to real life. Modern culture has a strong opinion on being
selfish versus being selfless. People who display the personality trait of being selfish are demonized,
some for good reason, but sometimes it is not possible to give the entirety of ourselves to others. If we

Look to a child for an answer. Chihiro embodies this sense of complete trust and outpouring of
oneself. Specifically represented by her willingness to go to Zeniba s house on the small chance that
she has a possibility to save Haku s life. This choice sounds like it is relatively small and should be an
easy accomplishment, but requires going on a train that runs one way and a long journey away. There
is a chance she will not make it back to her parents and go home. Now she does have some personal
gain due to her love for Haku, but the risk of never returning home displays how selfless she can be.
Chihiro is willing to throw away chances of going home on the slight change that she can save her
friend. She does not stop there, she brings along the monster, No face, who was terrorizing the bath
house. She not only does something for little gain, but changes others for the better in the process. By
bringing No face, she is bettering the world for everyone when she could have easily left him there to
continue to cause problems. The only issue is the way she is portrayed is not entirely accurate to how

What Is The Political Philosophy Of The Tempest
THE TEMPEST:
POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY ON SHAKESPEARE S LAST PLAY
Political Philosophy is a wide branch of philosophy that focuses statements and arguments involving
political opinion. It is all about state, politics itself, liberty, justice and the idea of authority. It tackles
the meaning of government itself, why it is needed, what makes a government legitimate, the freedom
of its underman, duties of both government and citizens and other political stuff. This type of
philosophy is being practiced since it was discovered and has two reasons. First is the method and
approach the philosopher and second is the philosopher s agenda that made him came up with the
methods he used. Political Philosophy have major theories that includes Anarchism, ... Show more

Experts have acclaimed that The Tempest did not receive a big amount of public attention and
applause before the ban on the performance of plays in 1642 and retained its popularity after the
Restoration. During 19th and 20th century, theater productions took great interest with the play and
undertook a re appraisal now saying that The Tempest is one of Shakespeare s greatest works. The
Tempest is the inspiration of 46 operas, plays, poems, and films. The story focuses with the exiled
duke of Milan, Prospero, which was brought to an island on the Mediterranean border which he
claimed to be the master. There he raised his daughter from childhood, Mirana, and encountered the
fascinating creature Caliban and the spirit Ariel. Prospero made Ariel his right hand while Caliban
became a slave who is the previous master of the island. Prospero made a Tempest which he said to
come from the use of witchcraft or magic to manipulate certain things just like the storm that hit the
ship of the King of Naples. We might have seen The Tempest as a supernatural literary piece but
almost all of the characters on the play are just part of Prospero s political experiment. Prospero was
once a philosopher in Milan but after he was overthrown, he started to realize the meaning of
Machiavellian politics. Prospero is shown to act according to his own philosophy but is shown that it
is not his main motivation for his actions. Prospero main motivation must be creating the best regime.
It is in the story that parallels the Old Testament and the creation of Israel. As we can see, the royal
group in the ship and the drunkards represents the flaws of human nature. Prospero noticed this flaws
and corrects them through establishing some sort of modern Israel. Prospero s leadership is planned to
be a nation where justice will be seen and

Analysis Of Lars Eighner s Dumpster Diving
Most people have heard the phrase, Don t judge a book by its cover . This adage means that you
should not make judgements based off of what you see by first glance. This expression is not only
related to books, but to people as well. To clarify, if you see a woman walking down the street with
makeup on most people will begin to think either one of two things at the snap of a glance. A. She is a
makeup artist or B. She is insecure or hiding something. In reality, none of these answers could be the
possible truth. This woman can work at a restaurant as a hostess and just enjoy putting on makeup
occasionally. Our covers are can be based on a numerous things like the way we speak or displaying
common behavior similar to a group of people. The author of the essay Mother Tongue , other wise
known as Amy Tan, writes about her mother s broken english and how it has taken an impact on her
ability. In addition to this, Lars Eighner composes an essay called Dumpster Diving in which he
records his experience as a homeless man on the street scavenging through garbage to find his next
meal. Evident in both the essays and reality, Amy Tan s mother, Lars Eighner, as well as myself, have
all been judged by our verbal, stereotypical, and visual covers by others in society thus affecting how
we are regarded.
For one thing, verbal covers affect the way the communication and understanding between two
people. In the essay Mother Tongue , there are many instances in which Tan s

Baseball As A National Pastime
Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, Baseball is what we were, and football is what we
have become ( Brainy Quotes ). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9 13
play baseball in the world today. There is no longer Take me out to the ball game, but let me watch the
game on my TV. Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the
increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the
game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as
football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance.
Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size
and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys
stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison,
the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ).
These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of
baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of
tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an
MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand,

Theme Of An Imaginary Life
The author suggests that all his writing is an attempt to achieve that state of perfect correspondence,
against the whole of our cultural history (Kavanagh 1986 p. 253). Malouf points out in the same
interview that Western culture considers a mature point of view as being the point at which a person is
most aware of himself/herself in a hard and clear way, separate from the rest of creation, and therefore
having power over it. Through an attentive choice of words and use of language devoid of mere
communication purposes, Malouf attempts to rehabilitate the primeval magical function of language.
He individuates in art, the task of the restorer of the magic correspondence of language.
Coming back to the novel, Malouf s character, Ovid, lives on the edge. Malouf has taken the idea of
the edge much further than anybody else; it is perhaps not too inappropriate a paradox of language to
say that the edge is at the centre of his work. But he would probably never have developed it as such a
central theme if he had not been born in Australia. In an interview, to Julie Copeland, he elaborated on
the suggestion that An Imaginary Life could only have been written by an Australian by saying that
the polarity between the centre and the edge (Rome and the hinterlands, Europe and Australia) really
only exists for those who are at the edge; the people at the centre just think of the centre .15 For Ovid
the exiled Augustan poet in Malouf s novel, the problem of being is a ... Show more content on

  • 2. Research Paper On Liquid Latex From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost 90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one of our final measurements. In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition. When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%, or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex. The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more effective if we had used unused formalin. Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable source of facts and statistics based on ... • 3. The Construction Industry Has Developed A Reputation For... Ethics Paper Over the years the construction industry has developed a reputation for shady deals and untrustworthiness. Contractors specifically are the root cause of the mistrust between the industry and the public. When it comes to the relationships between contractors and subcontractors though there is still a mistrust even though both sides share the same unfavorable reputation. Often times contractors bully subcontractors into signing contracts that put them in very unfavorable positions. And after that subcontractors bully sub subcontractors into signing equally unfavorable sub contracts. However, not all contracts are terrible, what makes them so one sided are specific clauses that are inserted in an attempt to transfer responsibilities from the contractor to the sub and sub subcontractors. Conditional payment and oversight responsibility are a couple of the types of clauses that attempt to do such work. Another clause in construction contracts attempts to protect the contractor and owner from each other with regard to change orders, it is included to force each party to put changes into writing. For the most part, no set of plans is perfect so inevitably changes must be made. So contractors and owners find themselves in yet another situation where both sides have the opportunity to be as unsavory as they can be. As the industry progresses into the future, many additional contract clauses will pop up. They will attempt to shift more responsibility and blame off the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Effects Of Environmental Influence On The Environment Does human interference benefit or hurt the environment and does human advancement necessarily mean environmental degradation? Earth contains multiple ecosystems, from the dense forests to the vast grasslands, the blazing hot deserts to the frigid tundra, and from the freshwaters to the seawaters. Webster s Dictionary defines ecosystem as the complex of a community of organisms and its environment functioning as an ecological unit . Each individual ecosystem has its own inhabitants along with its own special environment. The inhabitants, whether it be animals or plants, have adapted to specifically thrive in their respectful conditions. Humans, on the other hand, can bounce around to and from different ecosystems, even if it is only for a short time. Technological advances have empowered us to survive and thrive even in the harshest conditions. Whenever we move from place to place, we seem to leave our mark. With technology continuing to push the envelope and human population rising, our reach continues to grow along with our carbon footprint. In return, our expansion may be causing nature to retreat. So how can we combat this decline? In today s modern age, human interference may be necessary to preserve what s left of nature because of what happens to the environment in consequence to human advancements. The world is your oyster, figuratively or literally? As hunters and gatherers, our ancestors thrived off of the land they lived on, and took what it gave them. Today, ... In fact, seventy five percent of the world s mining companies are based in Canada (Dean, 2013). These companies are involved in the extraction of numerous resources, including silver, petroleum, bitumen and coal. Canadian mining operations also have a particular focus in gold, as twenty one of the country s top forty mining companies are involved in gold extraction. Environmental and Human Rights Violations Most mining projects aim to exploit territories of great ecological richness and/or the lands inhabited by... ethnic minorities (U.S. Office, 2013). Many times, when mining operations commit environmental violations, they commit human rights violations as well. For this reason, it is hard to separate these two types of violations. Large scale, open pit mining by Canadian corporations is responsible for a myriad of environmental infractions, not only affecting ecosystems, but also having a profound, direct or indirect, impact on the lives of millions living in Latin America. 1.1 Water Violations Water is one of the most affected resources in the region due to mining operations as mass mining extractions are having detrimental effects on surface and ground water (Cereceda, 2007). First, there is the problem of Acid Mine Drainage, or AMD. Naturally, sulphuric acid is produced when sulphides in rocks are exposed to water and air. AMD, however, is a result of this process being greatly magnified. Large quantities of rocks containing sulphides are excavated in these open pit mines, reacting to water and air and creating sulphuric acid. This acid leaches out of the rock, sometimes for ... • 7. The Hacked World Order Summary The world as we know it is becoming more and more interconnected technologically. A mere decade or so ago, the internet and the idea that people would spend much of their lives on it was an alien concept, only floated by nerds and futurologists. However, as the internet and computers came into their own, the brief, almost carefree toward computer and the internet faded quickly, to be replaced by a more measured and cautious attitude of realism. This is because, like every other piece of technology, every nation in the world immediately took computers and started attempting to understand how to use them for their own personal/national gain. In The Hacked World Order, the author, Adam Segal explores how nations incorporate computers and the technology of the 21st century into their arsenal and utilize them both against and for each other. Segal does this way that appeals to the average person, but if approaching the book from an academic standpoint an extremely cautious attitude is in order when exploring the different arguments the book makes. ... • 8. The Negative Effects Of Space Travel Introduction 400 According to the Oxford dictionary, outer space is defined to be the physical universe beyond the atmosphere of earth (Oxford, 2017). Space travel specifically long term assignments can be difficult due to the extreme environment consisting of a hard vacuum, high levels of radiation and microgravity being hazardous to the health and wellbeing of the crew. The controversary regarding space travel is regarding the adverse effects on the individuals health. As humans are not able to properly adapt physically and biologically to space, a series of extensive training must take place before space travel is allowed. Overall the training period for an astronaut is approximately 18 months or longer depending on experience. There are variety of procedures astronauts must go through such as using the Space Vehicle Mock Up Facility which gives a simulation of how they will be operating the space shuttle and how they will move about, the KC 35 which provides them with roughly 20 seconds of weightlessness, a machine called the Precision Air Bearing Floor assists astronauts when moving larger objects in space and lastly the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory which allows them to practice extravehicular activities i.e. space walks (NASA, 2009). The Israeli and Palestinian Gaza Conflict Essay Broad international consensus regarding the political and legal controversies of the Israeli and Palestinian Gaza conflict has been minimal at best. At its worst it has fueled the controversies created by the United Nations Fact Finding Mission, through which, both sides maintain their positions and justification for their actions. In ordered to obtain an opinion on this issue one must examine the factual historical background of the Gaza Conflict. This conflict has brought about legal and political controversies pertaining to the use of force, obligations of Palestinian and Israeli forces to use precaution pertaining to civilian population and infrastructure, illegality of the blockade, and human rights abuses by Israeli defense forces which still elude full resolution and clarity. Based on the United Nations Fact Finding Missions on the Gaza Conflict (aka the Goldstone Report) defenders of Israeli actions such as Golda Begin would start by arguing that the fact finding mission came in with pre conceived biases against Israel. Alan Dershowitz believes the fact finding mission is far more accusatory of Israeli actions, far less balanced in its criticism of Hamas, far less honest in its evaluation of evidence, far less responsible in drawing its conclusions, far more biased against Israeli than Palestinian witnesses, and far more willing to draw adverse inferences of intentionally from Israeli conduct and statements than from comparable Palestinian conduct and statements. Nirvana s Lead Singer Commit Suicide Natalie Boan Nirvana s Lead Singer Commits Suicide Kurt Donald Cobain, the lead singer for the band Nirvana was born on February 20, 1967, and committed suicide on April 5, 1994. As a child, Cobain had to deal with the constant yelling and fighting of his parents, up until they divorced when he was only nine years old. After the divorce, Cobain became secluded and introverted, as would any child. He went off to live with his father and would visit his mother and sisters over the weekend. • 11. The Iowa State Teaching Standards The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods (standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Aristotle And St. Augustine Aristotle and St. Augustine both wrote philosophical works in order to teach us something that they have learned, in hopes that we will apply it to our own lives. However, Augustine uses a type of autobiographical style in addition to treatise in his works, while Aristotle only uses the treatise style in his works. What were they both thinking when they were writing these famous works? Did they use their respective styles to achieve a goal? Both authors used their work to teach lessons in a way that would best communicate to the reader with relation to their own life experiences and careers. Both authors wrote their work as a way of acknowledging their own mortality. In other words, Aristotle spent a significant part of his life as a teacher of philosophy, and an earlier part of his learning and Augustine spent most of his later life teaching the Christian ideals. Both writers wished to teach people after they reached the end of their life and were to continue to the next one. In addition, they took the opportunity to communicate to those, during their times and after, who they were not able to speak to directly. Aristotle, Greek philosopher and author of works including the Nichomachean Ethics, wrote in a style in which the writer uses methodological discussion in order to reach a conclusion, also known as treatise. Aristotle, as opposed to St. Augustine and other religious persons, spent his life learning philosophy and presumably made it a goal to teach others, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mark Antony And Popular Culture Mark Antony and Popular Culture: Masculinity and the Construction of an Icon by Rachael Kelly, is a pathbreaking analysis of how Antony (the pop culture icon, hopeless lover and drunkard) differs so substantially from Antonius (the historical figure, esteemed general and statesman). Kelly successfully lays out with great quality and depth how the mythology itself performs a deeper socio cultural function. In order to further examine and engage with this idea, this informative and original study employs a socio ideological analysis of a series of seven culturally resonating screen texts dating from, for example, Cleopatra (Cecil B DeMille, 1934) to the television series Rome (HBO, BBC, RAI, RAI2, 2005 2007). However, this exemplar book still greatly contributes to the fields of gender, history and media by taking gender studies to a new direction by probing the purpose and boundaries of hegemonic masculinity within Western cultural and political discourse. Reporters and photographers arrive in swarms to get the inside scoop on the next ground breaking tragedy. When the Boston bombing happened on April 15, 2013 there was no exception to this pattern of events. While some news coverage has been given to the tragedies occurring in Syria, over the years we have become desensitized to it. When a tragic bombing occurs in our homeland, people take notice. There are endless photos and stories written about the event. The Syrians apologetic sign sent a message of a little more than just condolences. It took the tragic event of our country and diminished it. By reminding us that bombings like this happen every day in Syria. For them it a common occurrence. I don t mean to say that the Boston bombing was not a terrible incident, but when compared to the happenings over in Syria it makes you wonder where our priorities lie. Without the context of the Boston bombing photo, the photo of the Syrian townspeople would have had a much lesser effect on my emotions. By piggy backing on the United states tragedy they amplified their message. When I go back and look at that chaotic photo of the fallen runner I see a man, who is alive, and will live to run another race. I can now see straight through the message my eyes want me to believe. Photos can often have a broadcasted message that the artist or photographer wants you to see, but it is our job to view things without bias or relying on prior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Valgardson s short story, The Novice, shows a sailor reflecting on his life, and his fate, as he and what s left of his crew wade in Alberta s Lake Narrows, waiting for sunrise. For the first article, titled A year after Columbia, weaknesses remain at NASA by Alcestis Cooky Oberg of USA Today, the author writes that NASA has not learned from its past mistakes with the Columbia disaster and continue to put people in danger. This is an exaggeration by USA Today in an effort to demote the image of NASA to the public. In the beginning paragraph of the article, the author writes We always knew that overconfidence, carelessness and flawed decision making by NASA leaders were recipes for doom. • 21. The Nature Of The And Hunter Gatherer Societies Throughout history, humanities encounters with the other inhabitants of our planet have provoked many questions and assumptions about the natural state of our being and our relationship with the the world in which we live. A reflection from Sahlins on this relationship poses that Nature is to culture as the constituted is to the constituting (1976: 209). Whereby nature as it exists in itself is the raw material provided by the hand of God, waiting to be given meaningful shape and content by the mind of man, culture provides a building plan for society with nature as the building materials (ibid:210). The fate of nature once culturalized is its new mode of existence is then bound by the benefits of exploitation by strongest of men. Through the well documented period of European colonialism in Jahoda 2008 Wolf 2010, we can see how the assumptions of intellectual supremacy fed a negative construction of the other , underpinning waves of colonial expansion and facilitating the domination of pastoralist and hunter gatherer societies, ultimately serving to perpetuate economically exploitative relationships. Fortunately for mankind, the remedial element of time and the critical thinking of the enlightenment age has encouraged a more sympathetic consideration of radically different social systems and cultural practices (Mason 1990 in Jahoda), and has inspired some thinkers (Locke 1689 Rousseau 1750) to envisage a more ethical, freer race of mankind. In other words, the craft produced is almost similar to a bird nest which has the concave side and smaller top. Moreover, the craft work get the people attention after it has been documented by Keyser s sponsor who sees the art talent that she had. Apart from that, the interesting part about the basket is it is created through a weaving process by hands which suggest that it is carefully produced. It could be seen that the influence on the conception of this craftwork are based on Keyser s living place. The exterior of the craftwork is likely to store a traditional value and symbolize her community custom. The simplicity portrayed by the design indicates its friendly function as it serves either as a place to keep miscellaneous items or acts as a collection to the people. In addition, the craftwork also could be considered as unique due to its abstract design. A passage from the Removal Act reads as follows, no state could achieve proper culture, civilization, and progress, as long as Indians remained within its boundaries . • 27. Differences Between Television And Television After going over how meaning is made in television, in chapter seven, Mittell goes over how these meanings on television can impact the way that we, as viewers, think about our lives and the world. Mittell goes over the two most popular approaches that are usually used to understand the relationship of the meanings conveyed through television and the real world, as a way to escape the world and as a reflection of the world. The escapist and direct reflection approaches, according to Mittell, are not accurate. The escapist approach, which states that people watch television to escape from real life, falls short when considering the news, sports, talk shows, and other reality television programs due to their connection to real life. The direct reflection approach, which states that programming on television is true to viewers lives, fails to take into account fantasy programs and the representation distortion that happens in non fiction programs. Mittell argues that the best way to understand the relationship between television meanings and the way television viewers see the world is to use the refraction approach. The refraction approach states that television meanings refract the world, where programs alter the world around it and its meanings through particular techniques and forms like cinematography and editing. An important term in Mittell s refraction approach is representation. Mittell defines representation as, taking facets of the real world and presenting them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chihiro is a very idealistic representation of how to be selfless, which is not possible to apply to real life. Modern culture has a strong opinion on being selfish versus being selfless. During 19th and 20th century, theater productions took great interest with the play and undertook a re appraisal now saying that The Tempest is one of Shakespeare s greatest works. The Tempest is the inspiration of 46 operas, plays, poems, and films. The story focuses with the exiled duke of Milan, Prospero, which was brought to an island on the Mediterranean border which he claimed to be the master. There he raised his daughter from childhood, Mirana, and encountered the fascinating creature Caliban and the spirit Ariel. Prospero made Ariel his right hand while Caliban became a slave who is the previous master of the island. Prospero made a Tempest which he said to come from the use of witchcraft or magic to manipulate certain things just like the storm that hit the ship of the King of Naples. We might have seen The Tempest as a supernatural literary piece but almost all of the characters on the play are just part of Prospero s political experiment. Prospero was once a philosopher in Milan but after he was overthrown, he started to realize the meaning of Machiavellian politics. Prospero is shown to act according to his own philosophy but is shown that it is not his main motivation for his actions. Prospero main motivation must be creating the best regime. Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. • 32. Theme Of An Imaginary Life The author suggests that all his writing is an attempt to achieve that state of perfect correspondence, against the whole of our cultural history (Kavanagh 1986 p. 253). Malouf points out in the same interview that Western culture considers a mature point of view as being the point at which a person is most aware of himself/herself in a hard and clear way, separate from the rest of creation, and therefore having power over it. Through an attentive choice of words and use of language devoid of mere communication purposes, Malouf attempts to rehabilitate the primeval magical function of language. He individuates in art, the task of the restorer of the magic correspondence of language. Coming back to the novel, Malouf s character, Ovid, lives on the edge. Malouf has taken the idea of the edge much further than anybody else; it is perhaps not too inappropriate a paradox of language to say that the edge is at the centre of his work. But he would probably never have developed it as such a central theme if he had not been born in Australia. In an interview, to Julie Copeland, he elaborated on the suggestion that An Imaginary Life could only have been written by an Australian by saying that the polarity between the centre and the edge (Rome and the hinterlands, Europe and Australia) really only exists for those who are at the edge; the people at the centre just think of the centre .15 For Ovid the exiled Augustan poet in Malouf s novel, the problem of being is a ...
