• Definition:
Hysterectomy is defined as the surgical removal of
uterus.
Routes for Hysterectomy
1. Abdominal Hysterectomy
2. Vaginal Hysterectomy
3. Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
4. Caesarean Hysterectomy
1. Total Hysterectomy
Removal of entire uterus.
2. Subtotal Hysterectomy
Removal of body or corpus leaves behind the cervix.
3. Panhysterectomy / Hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo
oophorectomy
Removal of uterus along with tubes and ovaries of
both sides.

4. Extended hysterectomy
Panhysterectomy along with cuff of vagina.
5. Radical Hysterectomy
Removal of uterus, tubes and ovaries of both
sides, upper one-third of vagina and lymph
nodes of cervix.
