CURRENT MODES OF TRANSPORTATION
ROAD (Slow and time consuming)
WATER(Slow and risky)
RAILWAYS(Slow and time consuming)
AIR(Expensive and risky)
Is there any new mode of transportation?
Yes . HYPERLOOP is one such mode of
transportation.
It is framed by great personality , a successive
entrepreneur and the CEO of tesla – ELON MUSK.
WHAT IS HYPERLOOP?
A hyperloop is a proposed
high-speed transportation system for both public
and goods transport.
COMPONENTS OF HYPERLOOP
 TUBES:
It is made of steel.
Two tubes are weld together in a side by
side configuration to allow capsule to travel in both
directions.
 CAPSULE POD:
It is used to carry passenger and goods.
These capsules are shaped aerodynamically
to reduce drag.
 SUSPENSION:
Air bearings are used as the
suspension for capsule
Provides the stability
without support of any active control
system.
 POWER SOURCE:
The main power source of
hyperloop is solar power
Solar arrays are placed
along the length of tube , which
collects solar energy
WORKING OF HYPERLOOP:
 It is based on the principle of Magnetic levitation.
 The capsule moves in low pressure pylon
supported tube.
 The low pressure air is sucked by the compressor,
and converts it into high pressure and eject it
through the air bearings.
HOW HYPERLOOP WORKS ?
MOVES ANYTHING:
CARGO:
• Transports 1 or 2 FEU (forty foot equivalent unit)
• Ship a pod every 10 seconds
•Provides cost-effective and fast method of
shipping time sensitive goods
• Travels faster than passengers due to allowable
g-loading
PASSENGERS:
 A tube/pod system designed for cargo can also
carry people
 Includes more stringent safety and escape
measures
 Pods have ECLS (Environmental Controls & Life
Support) System
GOES ANYWHERE
IN LAND:
• Removes need for grading
•Easily crosses natural
barriers – Bridges are cheaper
due to low mass per pod –
Tunnels are cheaper due to
tube’s resistance to external
pressure
• Does not restrict access or
R.O.W. • Reaches city centers
above grade or via tunnel
IN WATER:
 Eliminates R.O.W. issues
 Enables offshore ports which can deliver goods to
inland ports via minor tunneling
 Reallocates waterfront property
ADVANTAGES:
➨The technology offers very fast speed of
transportation which is twice that of aircraft.
➨It has very low powerconsumption.
➨It is low cost transportation system on
long run.
➨It is immune to bad weatherconditions.
➨It is resistant to earthquakes.
➨It is safe mode of transportationsystem.
DISADVANTAGES:
➨High speed of capsule (almost at speed of sound) may cause
dizziness to the passengers travelling due to vibration and jostling.
➨Initial cost of investment to have the system in place is very
high.
➨It has very high risk to life when something wrong happens to
the system.
➨It has limited space in the train and hence people can not move
freely.
➨It has limited space in the train and hence people can not move
freely.
CONCLUSION:
Hyperloop is the technology for the future. For the past decades,
innovation in transport technology has been limited to improving or
modifying traditional means. Thus growth in the transport
technology has been stagnant. Hyperloop has the potential to break
this slump and provide a very fast and cheap method of
transportation.
“It’s a cross
between a
Concorde, a rail
gun, and an air
hockey table.”
