Hyperloop is a proposed mode of transportation comprising sealed tubes that would allow pods to levitate and travel at high speeds with reduced friction. It was envisioned by Elon Musk as a faster and more affordable alternative to existing high-speed rail and air travel. Several countries are pursuing development of Hyperloop networks, with operations projected to begin by 2020 according to one founder, though safety, costs, and other challenges remain.
