There are always those applications that are not well-suited for pressure transmitters, such as: process temperatures beyond the limits of the transmitter, special process connections (sanitary connections, PMC connections, quick disconnect for easy cleaning between batches), presence of solids or viscous fluids that could plug impulse lines, or the transmitter or process is corrosive.
The solution for these applications is adding a diaphragm seal system to the transmitter. The seal system function acts as an extension of the transmitter, but isolates it from the process and/or allows for the adoption of special process connections. But, diaphragm seal systems are not well-understood in the process control world. This webinar will help you gain a basic understanding of the diaphragm seals.
You will learn:
How a diaphragm seal works
The difference between a direct mount and a capillary mounted seal
When to use a diaphragm seal system
Things to consider when selecting the right diaphragm seal system
Diaphragm seal system limitations

The development and implementation of safety related devices in plant systems is crucial for dependable operation, not to mention peace of mind. Safety and safe operation were once only high priorities for installations that involve hazardous environments. Expensive certification testing was, and still is, paramount to meeting the hazards of such environments, but a new level of plant-wide integrity is emerging — that of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and SIS. SIL is a safety rating that can be derived by analyzing a system to determine the risk of a failure occurring and the severity of its consequences. Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) are systems containing instrumentation or controls installed for the purpose of preventing or mitigating a failure either by emergency shut down (ESD) or diverting the hazard. New or replacement equipment must have the ability to be introduced into plant systems without jeopardizing either the SIL of the operation or negatively impacting the SIS.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

SitrackVibes - Hydro
1.
2. The MPH1000 system is a powerful tool devoted to the hydroelectric generation industry
that allows controlling the operating status of turbine, generator, and auxiliary elements in
real time. The main purpose is to improve the efficiency of production processes based on
machines regardless their type, size, and output.
The MPH1000 system performs an incipient and automatic analysis of probable failures
operating in a threshold prior to their occurrence. The system works automatically and
online on machines under operation allowing failures to be detected earlier and thereby
reducing operating and maintenance costs significantly.
The MPH10000 system provides unique protection features to monitor the mechanical,
hydraulic, and electric performance of the machine independently during startup, loading,
and rated power stages. This system shutdowns the machine if an anomaly is detected. It
acts earlier than other protection systems available on the market.
The benefits resulting from using this
system are:
• Early detection of incipient failures
and anticipation of their
consequences
• Optimization and effectiveness of
maintenance activities using the
predictive failure system
• Optimization of the productive
process
• Reduction of carrying costs and of
spare part costs and reduction or
removal of fines imposed by control
entities due to the suspension of
machine operation
• Reduction of unplanned stops and
idle times
• Significant reduction of catastrophic
failures
3. Basic System Diagnosis
• Rotor unbalance
• Rotor misalignment
• Bearing gap
• Bearing blows
• Hydraulic effects

4. Diagram of the System
Instrumentation
Sitrack Vibes has subscribed technology development agreements with several
world-class scientific institutions for the purpose of developing instrumentation for
specific applications.
The MPH1000 system uses signals from sensors
located within machines and process signals.
The system supports sensors existing at the plant
and additional sensors are installed as required.
Signals from various sensors are used, including:
• Accelerometers
• Proximity sensors
• Pressure sensors
• Temperature sensors
• Air gap
• Process variables
5. Protection
Sitrack Vibes provides machine protection systems that operate using vibration analysis.
These systems identify abnormal situations that jeopardize the normal operation of
machines.
Sitrack Vibes offers a specific
protection system for hydraulic turbines
that is capable of detecting the
abnormal behavior of machines during
startup, speed increase to rated speed,
synchronization with the electric
network, loading, and rated power
stages.
This is a unique system that protects
the machine during startup phases detecting vibration levels caused by hydraulic,
mechanical, and electromagnetic forces. If a hazardous abnormal behavior is detected
during these stages, a stop unit alarm is sent. This protection system includes self-
calibration features so it can be adapted to every type of machines.
Local Monitor
Monitoring, analysis, and diagnosis functions are carried out by
a local monitor installed at the power station. This monitor
receives field signals and performs data conditioning, filtering,
and acquisition tasks.
Information is processed using an industrial computer placed
within the monitor. Algorithms and analysis models for
machines are the sole property and design of Sitrack Vibes.
The local monitor generates on-line information on the status of
the machine, as well as alarm and temporary reports. This
information is sent to the local control room of the power station
and to Sitrack Vibes facilities.
Shaft Monitor
The shaft monitor is a proprietary concept of Sitrack Vibes. This equipment is assembled
on the turbine shaft and allows monitoring the dynamic operation of the rotor on an on-line
and continuous basis during the operation of the machine.
Acceleration and deformation of the shaft are measured for the purpose of tracking certain
phenomena.
Information input and transmission is made wirelessly to the Sitrack Vibes turbine monitor.
6. Control Room and Local Analysis
The local control room shows the diagnosis on the machine status in real time. Alarms and
reports that contain all the signals and parameters measured are also provided.
Additionally, temporary signals, spectral signals, and historical trends can be analyzed.
Software suites including specific analyses are offered. They allow conducting the
following activities:
• Visual supervision and analysis of the machine vibratory behavior in real time
• Comparative supervision and analysis of the dynamic behavior of the rotating set
during startup
• Real-time analysis of the generator air gap
• Cavitation monitoring
• Vortex rope monitoring
• Monitoring of blows on runner (Francis) or blades (Kaplan)
7. Sitrack Vibes Facilities
Sitrack Vibes servers are located in the
city of Mendoza. They are equipped with
the elements and tools required to post-
process signals received and to store
reports and inform alarms.
On-line information on machinery status
as well as report and historical alarm
information can be accessed through the
Web.
Sitrack Vibes facilities also accommodate
a 24/7 monitoring room. When an alarm is
generated, it is received and processed by
Sitrack Vibes operators, who inform it to
the contact persons previously defined by
the client by telephone, fax, or e-mail.
