2. Concept of Hybrid Cath Lab
THE RATIONALE FOR THE HYBRID ROOM IS TO OVERCOME THE
LIMITATIONS OF THE SEPARATE SUITES
• Cath labs have high-quality fluoroscopy equipment, but generally rooms too
small for surgery
• Lacking the sterile requirements and equipment needed for open surgical
procedures.
• ORs have lower quality mobile C-arms not suitable for complex
interventional procedures.
THE HYBRID CATH LAB PROVIDES THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

3. Why we Choose Hybrid Cath Lab
not
Hybrid OR
• Hybrid suit is the part of Interventional cardiology and Cath Lab because.
• Technical facilities
Here we are using common console room for both Labs, which will help
space utilization.
• Hardware availability.
Interventional hardware's need more specific storage units, quantity,
verity which can also used for normal interventional procedures,
• Data Processing and transferring.
Cath Lab suit has its own Data Processing systems and integrations.

• Transcatheter aortic valve implantations (TAVI)
• Mitral valve repair
• Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR)
• Surgery for rhythm disturbances
• Interventional/Surgical complications

Its easy to maintain Radiation safety, when hybrid is the part of cath
lab, Common Lead wall, X-ray protective equipment's, Common
radiation safety protocols,
• Supporting Department
Cath lab suit always near to Cardiac ICU, and recovery areas which will
help sudden transfer of patients

6. Before We Start……..
• Following areas need to be checked and arranged in order to develop a
smooth Process.
TEAM
Hybrid team includes Surgeons, Anesthetist, Interventionalist , Surgical
Scrub Nurse, Cath Lab Scrub nurse, Radiographer, Perfusionist.
Its most important to develop a cross training program. Both specialty
staff need to be posted each other department observe and participate
surgical and intervention procedures,
• Hybrid team should be aware of Both Cath lab and surgical policy and
protocols.
• Basic knowledge about Biomedical equipment and inventories needed to
provide.

7. 2 Supporting Department
Biomedical Department need to trained and oriented about safe transfer of
Equipment’s to Cath lab complex.
House keeping department and Porters need to be trained safe transfer of the
patients,
House keeping staff need to trained a bout Surgical suit sterilization cleaning
protocols.
All team members need to undergo radiation safety training
Above mentioned process need to be monitored under hospital approved Policy
and Protocols.

8. Procedure Package and billing
• Emergency hybrid procedure always start with Simple low cost
procedure. So sudden shift to Hybrid procedure can change
treatment cost dramatically. Well established billing department need
to communicate between Surgeon and Patient/dependent to avoid
Financial related issues
• Special packages, Procedure costing need to be set

9. When we start……
• Each supporting team members should aware about his role
and responsibility .
• Its also important to developed common standardized
communication.
• Commonly accepted medical terminology, abbreviations
should be used.
• WHO Surgical and interventional safety Checking need to be
practiced

10. Ready to Launch….?
• A multi-disciplinary merger of medical professionals who have
specific role and responsibilities. Clearly, a team approach is required
for the successful implementation of the hybrid lab.
• Considering BDIH scope of service, availability of Equipment's,
Materials and manpower need to checked.
• Based on above concept and information, A set of approved Policies,
Protocols, Procedural pathways and Training program need to be
developed and implemented
