2. Military Child Essay

FINAL DRAFT
Military Child: Brat
Pure hell took its course on me as a young innocent girl. Being a military brat
definitely impacted my life in many challenging ways. The term military brat is
usually misunderstood by non military population. A military brat is a child from a
parent who is in the military. My mother was a commanding officer which made me
and my siblings labeled military brat The word brat (by itself) may seem negative.
However, we were taught that its not an insult but actually a term of endearment and
respect. Of course the military has a lot of traveling, family orientated, many free
services, and good food. Being a military brat was not all ... Show more content on

If we moved she would distribute more lashings. My mother was mean and called
her discipline tough love . Yeah right, my ass it wasn t tough love. She could
dissemble my door frame in five minutes taking away my privacy when I would slam
my door from anger.
She would turn off the electricity to my room so that there was no TV, curling
irons, games, or any luxury. The more my mother was a bitch the more I rebelled
with braking my curfew, sneaking out, hiding her badge, taking her files and hiding
them. The consequences of misbehavior for a military brat are generally greater than
for a civilian children.
Being labeled a brat was not a choice by any means. However, due to the challenges
I endured it has shaped and molded me into the woman I am today. A woman with
values, strength, great friendships, and unconditional love for all. No longer that
innocent girl thanks to the military who robbed me of that innocence. And It makes

3. To Build A Fire Literary Analysis
To Build a Fire by Jack London, is about a man who is unnamed, who travels from
the Yukon trail on a deathly cold morning with a wolf dog to meet up with his
friends at a camp at Henderson Creek. The man is advised by a wise old man to not
travel alone in such weather when it is extremely cold. But the man doesn t pay
attention to the little things and disregards the warnings and continues his journey.
The central idea suggests a broad theme of man versus nature. Jackson shows this idea
through intellectual (traveler) versus instinctive (wolf dog). The travelers lack of
recognition for instinctive decisions leads him on the path of self destruction and
death.

The old man at Sulphur Creek provides a supporting role in the story. He is
repeatedly brought up throughout the story when the traveler recalls the advice he
was given. The man was extremely serious when he said that no man should travel
alone (Jackson ). His advice and warning are what creates tension to the story. The
traveler brushes off the old man s advice and says the old man probably couldn t
do handle it because old men are womanish (Jackson ). As the traveler continues his
journey he realizes that being alone and traveling in such cold weather is
dangerous. When he makes the fire the first time he makes it under a pine tree.
The snow from the tree falls on the fire taking away the warmth he needed to reheat
his body. The second time he tries to make the fire he couldn t hold on to the
matches. The matches fell on the floor and he says how if he had a companion on
the trail he would be in no danger (Jackson ). He recalls how if he was traveling
with someone the companion could have built the fire. Now, he must build the fire
again, and this second time he must not fail (Jackson). Later, he says perhaps the old
man on Sulphur Creek was right. If he had a companion on the trail he would be in
no danger now (Jackson ). He also understands how the world is more instinctual
instead of intellectual. He doesn t realize until later that there might be a situation
which he cannot
4. Discipline Is Vital To Parenting In Ray Bradbury s The Veldt
Discipline is Vital to Parenting In today s society, parents that do not discipline
their children are perceived as nonchalant, or carefree. Ray Bradbury, an acclaimed
writer, disagrees with this concept. Instead, Bradbury would say that discipline is a
vital component of parenting, and without it, children will commit awful acts.
With the use of foreshadowing and allusion in his short story, The Veldt , Bradbury
depicts that a lack of discipline leads to horrendous, potentially deadly
consequences. Bradbury foreshadows the parents fatal deaths to develop the
repercussions they face for not disciplining Wendy and Peter. For instance, after the
Hadleys have dinner, the parents head to the nursery and find George s old wallet
with drops of saliva and blood smears on both sides (Bradbury 8). The disturbing
state George and Lydia find the wallet in hints that something is wrong with the
nursery and that the virtual animals can affect real life objects. Bradbury also adds
the following dialogue between the parents: Those screams they sound familiar. Do
they? Yes, awfully (9). The two screams Mr. and Mrs. Hadley heard were strikingly
familiar because they were their own screams, hinting that the children wanted them
dead and that the lions in the nursery were going to kill them. Throughout The Veldt ,
the parents hardly discipline their children, or care for them, causing the children to
despise them and develop a rotten character. Had the parents properly ruled
5. Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay
Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer
The number one is not a thing. Math has no definitive reality. Numbers are a social
construct, a system of symbols designed to express the abstractions through which
properly developed societies explain aspects of reality. It follows that, as humanity
seeks to understand more of what it is to exist, bigger numbers are needed. Soon,
we need machines to understand the numbers. Society plants a base on information
technology, efficiency, and a mechanical precision that is startling. What is desirable
in a product is distilled to a formulaic essence and packaged neatly. Humans, too, are
boiled down to science. Glossy shots, red lipstick, concrete biceps, and an ever
decreasing waistline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Gibson s cyberpunk world, technology and humanity simultaneously clash and
meld, creating a society in which humans scramble to interact with technology, using
it to gain footholds or augment their actual physical bodies. Humanity, in a sense,
ceases to be defined by being human The Ashpools and Hideo, for instance, are
clones, their DNA unoriginal, replicated like the numbers and symbols that make up
the infinite information networks of the Sprawl. More apparently, Dixie Flatline is
nothing more than a computer program hacked and grifted from a corporation, but he
is virtually the only major character in the book that treats Case like a friend without
a motive behind it, aside from Linda, who is relatively unimportant to the flow of the
story after her initial involvement. (Damyanov) Through this relationship, Dixie gains
at least a semblance of humanity, while Case is drawn ever closer to technology.
Dixie himself illuminates the question of human intelligence during a conversation
with Case:
...Me, I m not human either, but I respond like one, see? Wait a sec, Case said. Are
you sentient, or not? Well, it feels like I am, kid, but I m really just a bunch of
ROM. It s one of them, ah, philosophical questions, I guess... The ugly laughter
sensation rattled down Case s spine. But I ain t likely to wite you no poem, if you

Chupacabra is a main part of their heritage and culture.
Local scientists have recently debunked the mystery of the Chupacabra. Recently, it
has been determined that our mythical Chupacabra creature is actually just an animal
with no hair. In fact, recent years have turned up many different types of dead
hairless animals that seem to be undetectable as a well know species. Researchers
first thought this condition to be a terrible case of mange. Recent studies have

Researchers now believe this condition to be a strange genetic mutation that causes
the animal to be born without hair. A recent show on televisions Dirty Jobsby Mike

related to a coyote. No evidence has ever been given to support an alien type creature

7. Seinfeld s Impact on American Culture Essay
Seinfeld s Impact on American Culture
Jerry Seinfeld s television sitcom, Seinfeld, which went off the air in 1999, is still
one of the most culturally pertinent shows today. The show dealt with little nuances
of American society. A puffy shirt, for example, could be the main subject for an
entire show. This show, which was derived from Jerry Seinfeld s observational
humor, was voted as the Greatest Show of All Time by TV Guide in 2002.
According to the show s official website, the ratings for the syndicated version of
Seinfeld are ahead of many of the current primetime comedies ( Seinfeld 2/5).

Of his obsessive nature his mother said: He never wanted just a piece of chocolate

Jerry Seinfeld 1/7).
Soon Seinfeld s easy to relate to humor gave way to regular appearances on The
Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman. Other more gimmicky
comedians failed the test of time, but Seinfeld s steadfast style made his popularity
bloom. Despite national exposure, Seinfeld still stayed close to his roots, continuing
to play at small venues as well as on television. With jokes like: They say Tide cleans
bloodstains. I say if you ve got a T shirt with bloodstains, then maybe laundry isn t
your biggest problem ( Jerry Seinfeld 3/7) it s not hard to see why Seinfeld caught on.
In 1990, Seinfeld, a sitcom based on Seinfeld s humor, debuted as a summer
replacement show. Seinfeld allowed characters on the show to embody some of the
idiosyncrasies his stand up comedy had observed. Seinfeld played himself on the
show, and the other characters on the sitcom were based on friends and
acquaintances in Seinfeld s real life. The show was set in a recognizable Manhattan
with specific storefronts and locales in the cut scenes and dialogue. The plot of an
episode of Seinfeld usually centered on the daily menial tasks of the characters and
the little quirks that they observed along the way. Seinfeld, widely

movies starting with children and ending with the elderly. These two series of films I

Star Wars information:
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created

While Star Wars has raised its six films about $ 5,670 million, Star Trek with its
dozen films he has reached $ 1,760. And yet here we do not have the latest
animated film, which also must be much . The film pocketed more money from the
Star Wars saga was the original 1977 about $ 1,610 million while Star Trek are barely
reached $ 235 million with its Star Trek IV 1986
Conclusion:
I choose Star Wars vs. Star Trek because I like science fiction and fantasy movies. I
liked Star Wars more because it has more special effects and the characters
demonstrate more action; however the part of the movie as the main character. Star
Trek didn t Convince me. I think it was boring. Comparing to Star Wars if doesn t

9. Julius Caesar s Funeral Speech Analysis
Julius Caesar Funeral Speeches The play Julius Caesar written by William
Shakespeare in 1599, is about the murder of Julius Caesar, a great Roman general
who conjured many lands, and helped to form the Great Empire that we read about
today. Caesar was to be crowned king of Rome, but he was savagely murdered by a
group of conspirators before he received the crown. After Caesar s brutal murder,
Brutus a very honourable Roman, who helped in in Caesar s death, and Mark Antony,
one of Caesar s closest friends, gave speeches at Caesar s funeral, trying to convince
the crowd to agree with them and turn against the other. Brutus and Antony both
made convincing speeches, but Antony came out on top, because Antony let the
people make up their own mind, by appealing to their emotions.
Brutus made a convincing speech but came out beneath Antony, because he forced
his opinion on the crowd by using his honour, instead of convincing them and
giving them reason. Brutus said, hear me for my/ cause, and be silent, that you
may hear: believe me/ for mine honour, and have respect to mine honour. (3.2. 2 4)
Brutus is telling the crowd that they have to believe him and agree with him
because he is honourable, Brutus gives no other reason to believe him. Some
people in would argue that Brutus gives another reason, when he said, as he was
ambitious, I/ slew him (3.2. 16 17). But he doesn t give a reason, for why Caesar
was ambitious, he just tells the crowd Caesar was ambitious and

currently a case manager in my office. This is to emphasize her experience and
expertise in the medical field. She obviously had strong feelings about pharmaceutical
marketing and was happy to contribute. Her main focus was on the television (T.V.)

pharmaceutical companies advertise drugs that are needed by patients. She further
explained that it is also the way which marketing is conducted, showing cheery
people with fabulous hair on sunny days (F. McClure, personal communication,

drugs and/or do not grasp the severity of many of them. Most people are looking at
the pleasing visuals in these commercials, therefore they do not notice the side
effects of the drugs, because the notices are in small print or run through so quickly
they are incomprehensible. The viewers want what they see and ask their physicians

British Raj is a term for the period when British ruled India from the late 1858 until
1947. This all started when Portuguese found India which then was introduced by
the British. The British had interest on India because they had a lot of resource
which led the British to conquer India in 1858. ( The Economic Effects of the British

The other side of the admitted presence of danger is the failure of the institutions

Fear of various dangers, hazards, and the unknown have constituted the most basic
of human experiences, drives, emotions, etc. In your book Risk Society, you argue
that the driving force in the class society can be summarized in the phrase: I am
hungry! The movement set in motion by the risk society, on the other hand, is
expressed in the statement: I am afraid! The commonality of anxiety takes the
place of the commonality of need. Could you say more about fear as a driving
force in risk society? How does fear in a risk society differ from its formulations in
other kinds of societies for example, feudal agrarian societies? Do you agree with
Anthony Giddens statement that Our age is not more dangerous not more risky than
those of earlier generations, but the balance of risks and dangers has shifted. (1)
We don t know if we live in a world any more risky than those of earlier generations.
It is not the quantity of risk, but the quality of control or to be more precise the known
21. Free Play In Politics
Famous American and political journalists P.J. O Rourke and Carl Bernstein took the
stage at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on March 31, 2016 to discuss current U.S.
political and economic issues. Their performance was a part of the John S. Knight
Foundation s lecture series hosted at The University of Akron. Anxious guests talked
amongst themselves until the President of The University of Akron, Scott
Scarborough took the stage at approximately 7:42 p.m. to explain the night s roadmap
and introduce the evening s moderator, Dr. John Green. Before talking politics, Dr.
John Green, Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute and Interim Dean for the College
of Arts and Sciences, introduced the two speakers. Their speeches were well
intentioned and felt almost too rehearsed. When discussing performance, we often
don t think about politics or political lectures. In a way, I suppose we as a society
want to believe that these leaders aren t acting or performing. Unfortunately, in this
year s presidential race, as well as the debate I attended, it s all pre scripted. With
that in mind, I think back to the first discussion post we were asked to write about
the many ways life is scripted. Nachmanovitch writes in Free Play There are many
situations in which we are inappropriately expected to plan or script the future

My clinical placement for the fall 2016 is in the UW Health East Clinic s Internal
Medicine, which is located in 5249 E. Terrace Drive, Madison, WI. The UW East
Clinic operates under the healthcare entities of the UW Medical Foundation. The
purpose of this paper is to explore practice setting of the internal medicineand role of
my preceptor.
Practice Setting The Internal Medicine providers offer comprehensive diagnostic and
primary care services to general population. The providers are involved in treating
complex medical problems, the diagnosis and treatment of both acute and chronic
illnesses, gynecological care, urgent care, and minor surgery. The staff members,
demographics of patient population, payers system, and practice policies of the
Internal Medicine is discussed below:
Staff Members
The team of the Internal medicine is composed of both physicians and non physician
health professionals such as nurse practitioners (NPs). The other team members
include clinic manager, registered nurses, medical assistants, and schedulers. The
physician are the primary care provider of the patient, while the nurse practitioners
are the part of the care team. The registered nurses (RNs) worked as a triage nurse in
the triage call center. The triage RNs are involved in triaging phone calls and
scheduling appointment for treatment accordingly, patient education such as wound

23. Health Care Strategies
The meaning of strategy is obscured by its wide variety of definitions. It is often
easier to see it in action than it is to define. In the early 1980s, three different health
systems embraced equally different strategies.
In a small conference room at St. Luke s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis, a strategy
emerged that would fuel St. Luke s transformation into Aurora Health Care and plant
its signature teal colored rooftops all over eastern Wisconsin. St. Luke s had carved
out the strongest preference levels of any hospital in the state, largely on the
reputation of its heart program. When health plans began to push hospitals in
southeastern Wisconsin for significant discounts, St. Luke s CEO, Mark Ambrosius,
pushed back. He knew no health plan

a.The sniper is undoubtedly a dynamic character. The author displays this through the
plot, the sniper s thoughts, and even states it directly. Liam O Flaherty wrote of the
sniper being overwhelmed with penitence after defeating his opposition. In the story,
the author directly stated how the sniper s feelings had changed. Liam O Flaherty did
this again when he wrote about the sniper feeling reckless after drinking from the
whiskey flask.
b.One can also justify that the sniper is a dynamic character through indirect
characterization. Then when the smoke cleared, he peered across and uttered a cry
of joy. Liam O Flaherty wrote, proving that the sniper had achieved his goal. Later in
the story, the author wrote, Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked
into his brother s face. Not only is this written dramatically, it is also the ending of the
story. From this, the reader can infer that the sniper must have been heavily impacted
and influenced (changed) by this tragic event. Thus, the sniper is a dynamic

Industry Definition and Competitors
Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) is a quick service and casual Mexican
inspired restaurant chain based out of Denver, Colorado. The company takes pride
in doing a few things exceptionally well: To serve high quality and delicious food
quickly with an experience that not only exceeded, but redefined the fast food

tastiest food, and growing the most capable team possible.
Steve Ells started Chipotle in 1993, and expanded the chain to over 400 stores
within 12 years. Chipotle is supported by the financial power and sprawling
distribution network of owner McDonald s Corp, and is the largest Mexican style
concept among a number of fast casual competitors that also have been picked up by
quick service companies in recent years (Peters, 2005).
Major competitors include other Mexican fast casual locations such as Baja Fresh,
Del Taco, Qdoba Grill, and market leader Taco Bell. Additional competitors in the

26. Sorrowful Women and a Story of an Hour
The traditional outlook on life has dissipated in modern years. Men were usually the
ones who worked to support the family and maintained a steady income to make the
family financially stable. On the contrary, women were expected to raise the
children, prepare meals and keep a tidy house. For most, this was the ideal life style
that worked effectively. Throughout Gail Godwin s short story, A Sorrowful Woman
,
the character is a component of a troubled family. Furthermore in the short story, The
Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin, the protagonist, Mrs. Mallard is notified
with information that is life altering. A characters motivation drives a story towards

the family can create problem even if it is a tragic event that sparks these troubles.
In the story A Sorrowful Woman the reader will certainly notice how she has created
the troubles depicted from the family vantage point. This idea of how lifestyles have
changed is perpetuated by the story The story of an Hour by Kate Chopin. This
shows how a life altering event has changed the mindset of a woman who was rather
traditional in thoughts regarding marriage and life with her husband. In conclusion,
these main characters actions and emotions are supportive of the author s intentions

Review of movie Stand By Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four
preteens, who during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of
a dead twelve year old, who has been missing by news accounts, but known to them,
to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The story is told as an historical narrative
about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in this movie, Gordy,
Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self
concept, affects the characters, and their interactions.
Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this story, can best be described as an
introvert. He is living in the shadow of his recently deceased brother, ... Show more

He comes from what Gordy describes as a ?bad family?, and believes himself to be
bad too. His self fulfilling prophecy would be to turn out as bad as everyone in town
believes that he will. Gordy sees the good in him, and pushes him to be more than
Chris perceives he is capable of being. Chris is the group leader. The others in the
group value his opinion, and he is the protector. He sticks up for the rest of the
boys, and they look up to him. One example of this is when Ace, an older, bullying
local, steals Gordy?s hat. He verbally attacks the older bully, on behalf of Gordy. His
presenting self is confident, independent, and tough. Inwardly, or his perceived self,
is incapable, and destined to become nothing, primarily caused by the locals, and his
family continually reminding him that he comes from a family of trouble, so he must
trouble too.
Teddy DuChamp can best be described as an antagonist. His father abused him, and
was eventually put into an asylum, this leaving Teddy with a stigma of being the
son of a ?looney?. This brought about his self fulfilling prophecy of craziness. He
has a problem with self control, to the point where it could cause him serious harm.
One example of this is when he begins arguing with the keeper of a junkyard, and
instead of backing down during the altercation, he continues to fight, without
realizing that he could be endangering himself. He spends
28. How Does Stockett Present Racism In The Help
The novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett is an exploration of the ways in which
the main theme of racism and symbols of discrimination pervaded every aspect of
human life within the 1960s. The symbol of the toilets symbolizes all the flaws in
society, specifically in relation to segregation in this era, while sparking Skeeter s
motivation to impact the public eye of race. Bathrooms are one of the most
persistent motifs in the novel as well. This starts with Hilly s Home Help Sanitation
Initiative, which requires all white families to have a second bathroom for the use of
their colored maids. Another symbol includes Minny, being famous for her great
skill at cooking, and in particular, for her delicious pies. The recurring motif of pies
exemplifies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toilets and bathrooms are used to symbolize all that is wrong with the society
depicted in the novel. They are also there to symbolize the dirtiness of the tactics
used to maintain a racist status quo in the Mississippi community in the 1960s.
Despite the fact that Minny is increasingly well known for her pies, she uses her
baking skills to her advantage in order to get revenge upon Hilly. By doing so
Minny receives a feeling of empowerment against Hilly and successfully proves her
wrong against the claim that all African American individuals carry unique diseases.
It has also been suggested that women might be more of a threat towards black people
than men would be a white man will use violence, but a white woman will ruin
your life. This statement becomes true when Hilly uses negative tools in order to
punish Minny after accusing her of thievery. Aibileen often refers to the bitter seed
that began to grow inside of her after the death of her son Treelore. The seed makes
Aibileen less accepting of the white women who treat her like a lesser human being,
and she often feels the seed growing every time a white woman humiliates or
degrades her. The individuals with privilege in this novel must realize that they are
given an unfair amount of power and should use that power not to maintain their
status quo but to help others who have their voices silenced by society. Although each
one of the help undergo the pretentiousness of the white woman of the South, it is
demonstrated that no matter how anyone is treated or how dark a person s life
seems, there is hope. Hope that things will change and hope that you can help make

29. Animal Cruelty And Domestic Abuse
If abusing animals isn t bad enough, it s been noticed the terrible connections it has
with domestic abuse. The current animal cruelty laws should be more severe and
enforced with worse repercussions. Once an individual is charged with abusing an
animal, they should be prohibited from owning one forever instead of just months
/years. Children that are responsible for animal abuse should be required to see a
psychiatrist regularly, so they can learn to deal with their anger in a better way rather
than taking it out on animals or people. For adults that are completely aware of their
actions, there should be bigger fines and longer imprisonment terms to help
discourage abusive behavior before it affects more than animals. Human beings can
shout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, according to a report by the Boston Globe, both of the perpetrators in
the Columbine High School shooting had an interest in mutilating animals. They
went from animal abuse to murdering their classmates as teenagers.
One prime example of animal abuse going without punishment takes live
broadcasts to a whole new, horrible level. In Denmark during a radio show the host
beat a baby rabbit named Allan to death with a bicycle pump. He claimed it was a
humane way to put him down, although using a bicycle pump hardly seems so. The
rabbit was only nine weeks old. So far the host hasn t been punished or charged with
anything, and with the way things are going it seems unlikely he will be. Things
need to change. The current laws for animal cruelty simply aren t enough, and unless
we help make a difference they won t ever be.
Animal abuse is a terrible crime that affects all living creatures around the world. In
the U.S., you can take action by learning which laws exist in your area and work to
strengthen them through petitions and writing to your government representatives.
You should also learn how to report animal cruelty nearby. As these examples show,
the punishment is often not even close in proportion to the crime. It s up to us to lend
our voices to the
30. Why Has The World Changed At The End Of The Twentieth
Century
Outrage Causes Democracy There are many reasons why the world completely
changed at the end of the Twentieth Century. The main reasons why the world
changed is because of major events and dictators that influenced the world to change.
These events included the loss of power of Philippines dictator, Ferdinand Marcos,
and dictator Jean Claude of Haiti (Kenney 1). This was a major coincidence that
showed the rest of the world how great the countries looked because of new
democratic governments that took to power and showcased joyous crowds and
removal of repression (Kenney 1). At least 20 30 countries in the 1980s rapidly
changed their ways to democratic governments. The years surrounding 1989 were
the most important for Democratic Revolutions is because the world finally opened
their eyes. Many countries finally caught onto the repression they had been facing
for years and had enough. Two countries that were part of this Revolution were The
Philippines and South Africa. The Philippines was a country ruled by dictator
Ferdinand Marcos from 1917 1989 (Kenney 78). Many things could have happened to
prevent Marcos from continuing his rule. These included strong guerrilla forces that

beyond the victory in order to create a better government for the people of South
Africa. For example, he said I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free
society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities
(Kenney 136). This quote from his speech is significant because it shows he is ready
to fight for the freedom and equality of
31. Forensic And Age Determination Of Blood Stains
Forensic approaches to age determination of blood stains Among the many pursuits
of forensic scientists, one of the foremost attempts is that of establishing time of
death of a victim by use of whatever evidence is available. Even though some
calculations for estimations are claimed to be available to a few branches of the
forensics community, such as medical examiner determination by use of internal
temperature of the body, or the onset of rigor and livor mortis, or that of the
entomologist s estimations based on the pupal and larval stages of different
carrion insects, it may be that the body is in such an advanced state of decay that
these calculations cannot give an accurate calculation, or, even worse, that a body
may be absent. In light of such possibilities, it may however be possible to use
other types of evidence to establish time of death, time of deposition, and render a
partial, if not full reconstruction of events on the scene based on the age and order
of deposition of other evidence. Bloodstains represent one such potential piece of
evidence that, aside from having the possibility of providing a link to a person by
DNA, may allow investigators to determine the time of deposition, and perhaps aid in
the reconstruction of the purported events. Attempts to establish the age of
bloodstains have been made since early 1900s (Bremmer et al., 2012), but no early
technique could really be established as a universal and accepted method. One issue
that most techniques
32. Analysis Of All The Pretty Horses
In the Novel All The Pretty Horses by author Cormac McCarthy, the book develops
the ideas about how imagination affects an individual s willingness to embrace or
reject an uncertain future. The people in John Grady s life affect his future in
certain ways, the decisions he makes based on the opinions of his peers, to the
death of loved ones. John is a unique character in this book, he acts out on what he
wants. He never speaks much but he acts a lot, and for john his actions speak
louder than words. Such as riding away from San Angelo into mexico. He rode
with his friend Rawlins and they do not encounter much trouble, this is when they
are truly living the life of the cowboys. For John this shows that he s ready for
what s going to come at him. Heading out into mexico with no plan shows us that
John is ready to embrace any future that hits him. Whether it hits him like a train or
rolls by like a tumbleweed. John Grady will be ready for what comes his way no
matter what. Another person in his life who changed the ways John Grady thought
was he sick father. His father was a second world war vet. Being in the war gave
certain experiences and a certain mind set for his father. These rubbed off on John
as he got taught life lessons. His father was a broken man. Looks at the world with
sunken eyes as if the world out there had been altered or made suspect by what he d
seen of it elsewhere. This quote is from the Narrator of the book, giving us a detailed

33. A Palace In Time Heschel Analysis
As a dimension widely considered inextricable from human existence as a whole,
concepts of time and temporal existence often intersect with those of sacredness and
spirituality. Indeed, many religions equate time to mortality, with the temporal
representing the irreligious and worldly confines that precede eternity, Heaven, or
Enlightenment. Contrarily, within the introductory chapter of his text The Sabbath,
entitled A Palace in Time, author and Jewish mystic Abraham Joshua Heschel
eloquently proposes the glorification of time as an inherently divine element.
To Heschel, time evokes divinity. The sabbatical observance and glorification of the
seventh day runs adjacent to that of God, who, accordingly, did not lackadaisically
rest on the seventh day but rather deliberately built the Sabbath and its underlying
concept of menuhah abstractly defined by the author as tranquility, serenity, peace,
repose, and perhaps most importantly the essence of good life. Heschel
conceptualizes the Jewish Sabbath as a recurrent, sanctified moment in time by
which holiness exudes; essentially, his conception of sabbatical observation does not
equate to the popular, non theological understanding of Sabbath as rest and ... Show

Instead, Heschel emphasizes the importance of the Sabbath as a moment of
celebration of the majesty of holiness in time, a day by which observant Jews carve
out holiness in the experiential moments of time amid the materialism of tangible
space. Time particularly, sabbatical time thereby does not undermine the practical
importance of labor and civilization, but instead grants meaning to these spatial
elements. In short, as Heschel asserts, It is not a thing that lends significance to a
moment; it is the moment that lends significance to

Language carries with it cultural coding. All experts, commentators and linguists are
unanimous that without knowledge of the language the culture can never be

But, one day, on her way back home from buying salt from the market, a goblin

malicious intent. Using his charisma, he proposed a bargain. Suddenly, enough was
insufficient.
Goblins were not to be trusted, especially those that made deals . . . but, a world of

First of all, dog walking will give me the exercise I need for a maturing girl.
Developing children need sixty minutes a day to maintain their healthy lifestyle.
That said, since my basketball season is over I am no longer getting that exercise I
need to be healthy. Becoming a dog walker gives me the opportunity to meet that
daily exercise and gain money while having fun.
Having my own dog walking business gives me the chance to really understand
what it is like to actually work for money. Earning money will give me a taste of
adulthood. For example, I would have the chance to make my own money and
spend that money on things I want instead of begging you guys, my parents, to buy
stuff for me. Also, the money I would make I could possibly save and use it for
college or to go to a sports camp that will benefit me in the near future. Dog walking
will give me many opportunities to learn about animals, money, making commitments
to others and becoming more

The
The current year 2017, marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Netflix. In
today s society, Netflix and Chill is an actual term used by Millennials, young adults,
and adolescents. Netflix accounts are shared like candy, and a break up results in
your ex continuing to use your Netflix account. It is hard to imagine a time when this
was not the norm, when Netflixdid not exist. In order to live the Netflix obsessed
lives society does, what had to happen? What is the history of Netflix?
The Founding of Netflix In 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph co founded
Netflix. The duo became acquainted through their previous jobs at Pure Atria.
Coincidentally Hastings and Randolph both lived in Santa Cruz, and were in the

This idea was ruled out because of logistical challenges (Xavier) with VHS tapes.
However, around this time DVD s were up and coming, allowing for the
resurrection of this otherwise buried idea. In order to see if shipping would be a
problem, Hastings and Randolph mailed a CD to Reed s house (Xavier). This is one
of the founding myth stories that is actually very true (Xavier). When the CD arrived
at Hastings house undamaged the two realized that they may just be on to something.
Following their epiphany was a period of working through the details (Xavier), where
Randolph mainly, worked through things such as cost and how the company would
work. Eventually there was nothing else that could be researched or worked out and
the pair had to jump (Xavier) into their new business. Once the company began,
Randolph ran the company as CEO and Hastings funded it and contributed when he
could.
The Growth of Netflix Today only Hastings remains with Netflix, while Randolph
left the company back in 2002, and the company s board of directors in 2004.
Leadership is not the only change Netflix has seen. The Netflix known today bears
almost a zero resemblance (Xavier) to the original concept Hastings and Randolph
envisioned for Netflix. The original concept was to provide a movie rental service
without due dates and late fees. However, logistics did not favor this vision, and

42. The Rise Of The Qing Dynasty
During the years 1851 1866 there was massive civil war, or as some would consider
it, a rebellion in China. This period of turmoil was not only the most destructive war
of the nineteenth century, but likely the bloodiest civil war of all time. (Platt, 2012)
The ruling government was the Qing dynasty, who had been in power since the mid
1600 s. There were widespread problems throughout the country including natural
disasters such as droughts, famines, and floods. (Robert Worden, 1988) There were a
substantial number of lower class citizens who were unhappy with their living
conditions and with the Manchu rulers of the Qing dynasty. There was a large gap in
economic status between the lower class and the wealthy members of the
government. This social tension along with Chinabeing defeated militarily by France
and Britain lead to a citizen uprising in the region of south China. Known as the
Taiping Rebellion, this large scale revolt was fought in an attempt to create a new
Han Chinesedynasty that would unite Christianity and Confucianism. (Black, 2013)
The Taiping Rebellion impacted Chinese history in two main ways: the Chinese
lower class learned to fight for social change, which lead to other rebellions, and, at
the same time, the war showcased the Chinese government s intolerance for and
ability to thwart societal change. The first main impact the rebellion had on Chinese
history was that the Chinese people, who were possibility influence by the American

43. Analysis of BachВґs Work Essay
Before actually going into the analysis of the actual piece itself, background
information would be helpful. The composition was written by Bach, and it is part
of the sonatas and partitas for solo violin. For this example, Partita II in d minor,
movement I, Allemanda, will be discussed. Allemanda, sometimes spelled
allemande, derives from German and simply means dance. While there are various
tempos used, this movement is usually fast, around 120 beats per minute. Strip all
the decorations and ornaments, and there is a straight forward analysis. The piece
begins and ends in D, cadencing to tonic. There is an A halfway in between, creating
a half cadence. In order words, this can be easily be called a I V I, just like any other
piece.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With numerous rhythms to choose from, along with a wide assortment of notes, it
makes much more sense why that G sharp is longer than that note or why this D is
only one sixteenth note. Breaking down each rhythmical pattern will create better
understanding as to why some passages have more emphasis than others. The four
16th pattern will start. Because they are the most frequent out of any other rhythm
type, it makes logical sense they are the star of the show. It is the milk when making a
strawberry smoothie. Without the milk, it would fall apart. Milk is the base that
holds everything together, like glue. The four 16th notes are the cohesion that binds
the piece into a solid entity. A milkshake would not be defined as a milkshake without
the milk. It even has the word milk in it. This highlights the importance of its
significance. Substituting milk might work, but it diminishes the effects of the
creation. The second rhythm pattern is the one 16th/two 32nd/two 16th. What is the
difference between the first pattern and this one? This one has two 32nd notes. Both
own three 16th notes, so that one distinction is the only idea that makes it different.
One clean might seem trivial, but it establishes a notable contrast. They are the
strawberries when making a strawberry smoothie. They become second in command
in terms of importance of the smoothie. It would make sense the smoothie tastes of
strawberry, does
44. Sex can be an Addiction
Sex can be an Addiction
About Sexual addiction
Do you think sex addition is a real disease? According to Karen Huffman, sex is
defined as a biological maleness and femaleness including chromosomal sex; also
sexual behaviors, such as masturbation and intercourse. Addiction, is a broad term
describing a compulsion to the use a specific drug or engage in a certain activity
according to the Psychology in Action textbook (Huffman, 2012). In our society
today being a sex addict is an addiction that is sometimes over looked. Some people
don t know that sex can be a serious addiction. My definition for sex addiction is a
person who always wants sex and will find any way to please this desire. Sex
addiction is described as a behavior of someone who unusually has a strong sex
drive or sexual obsession and sexual thoughts and acts. More than 30 million people
in the United States alone suffer from sexual addiction (Millien, 2013).
Sex addicts are usually addicted to pornography, masturbation, visiting prostitutes
or using chat lines for sexual reasons (Elizabeth Hartney, 2013). The author for the
article The truth about sex addition feels that sex addition is a real addition, only
when the person cannot control them self when it comes to sex. This article also
feels it is not an addition when it is an excuse to watch porn or to get sex all the time.
3 to 6 percent of adults are estimated to become a sex addict (Cloud, 2011).
I believe sex addition is a real disease that
45. Midgley s Idea Of Moral Relativism
We currently live in a society that is pushing towards the idea that no one should be
discriminated against. This includes discrimination over one s culture and beliefs.
While this broad idea seems good, it comes with unforeseen problems. In this essay,
I am going to argue against Midgley s idea of moral relativismand how their ideas
create an unhealthy society leading towards anarchy. Moralrelativism is a prominent
idea in philosophy that asks the question Who am I to judge? . This question focus
primarily on morals between different people and cultures. As different cultures
have different values and ways of life it stands that the morals between two
cultures would vary, whether it be minimally or vastly. Midgley believed it was
impossible to understand other cultures way, and that if we wanted to remain
respectful and non discriminatory then we must not pass any form of judgement
upon each other. Moral relativism is a problematic idea that will lead to a global
society with no rules. If it is believed that you can not judge another for what they
find morally acceptable, then it is not a far reach to say that you can not stop
another person from doing what they find morally acceptable as well. With actions
such as that, the world we live in would be drastically different from what it is now.

Moral relativism focuses on the idea that you cannot judge someone s morals if they
are different than yours, leading to the problem that you cannot stop their actions
since they are dictated by morals. Our prison system is put in place to stop those
who have performed actions we deem immoral. The problem with this is that if we
cannot deem any actions immoral then we can never place anyone in a prison. This
places those who have not done immoral deeds in an unsafe position where they must

Using Information and Information Technology in Policing
Information Technology (IT) is the technology side of an information system. In
order for police departments to be able to manage their resources in combating crime
in their areas they will have to adapt to new technologies. One of these technologies
is CompStat which stands for comparative statistics. CompStat made its first
appearance in 1994 in New York City. Since then many policedepartments have
implemented the CompStat system.
Once a police officer makes an arrest they have to fill out a report. This report must
be as accurate as possible because the information that is obtained from this report
will be entered into the CompStat system. The CompStat system has ... Show more

There are four basic principles that allow them to respond to crime faster. These
principles are timely an accurate intelligence, along with effective tactics, rapid
deployment, relentless follow up and assessment. These four basic principles have
to happen on a continuous basis in order for the whole system to be effective. This
is why management must play a key role in the use, and implementation of
CompStat. This is one of the main differences between private enterprise and the
public sector is the bottom line of positive returns. If a business implements an
unsuccessful strategy or provides an unacceptable level of customer service, it is not
long before it becomes a failed business. Much like a business, the bottom line with
CompStat is results. (Shawnee P.D. 2012)
CompStat has much strength in preventive policing. Some of these strengths are
being able to predict where and when crimes will be committed, and as a result of
this it allows police department to allocate the proper resources to deal with the
crime. This is very important because it saves time and money on these resources,
and allows for more effective policing. These strengths help the police departments in
other ways as well. Police departments have to operate inside of a budget, and this has
an effect on manpower, operations, and resources. CompStat will help them with their

Inquiries into the mental wellbeing and child friendliness of hopeful foster parents
should be a top priority. It should also be a requirement for foster families to be

regarding familial abuse including ways to identify it and help those who are victims

Conclusion:
It appears that the Andrew and Bonta s personal, interpersonal, community

with crime than . The four main indicators of criminal reoffending all apply to

49. How Does St. Ignatius Impact On Religion
Saint Ignatius has had a major impact on the Christian faith. For one, St. Ignatius
founded the religious order called the Society of Jesus. He was a holy saint that
would later serve as a role model to the faith. The artist is trying to express the
correlation of St. Ignatius and God. Also, to depict that God is all around us. The
statue communicates the experience one receives while connecting with God. The
desired effect of the statue displays how the faith benefits people and instills
Christian values. The St. Ignatius Loyola Statue outside the Panasci Family Chapel

For one, St. Ignatius originally founded the Jesuits and Le Moyne College is a
Jesuit school. This represents unity with the eternal community of the faith. Also,
Jesuit values, created by St. Ignatius, are being passed down through generations.
The faith is being preserved and restored throughout generations. The statue depicts
the service St. Ignatius provided to the faith. St. Ignatius is connected to God and
depicts the love God has for people. This is important in cultivating the viewer. The
sense of the Holy Spirit the statue displays reflects on the Christian community. St.
Ignatius is a visual sign of God s love and nurture towards the faith and its people.
God loves by sharing what love is and has. In order to be holy, one must love. Being
holy depicts on the fulfillment a person receives through the faith. God is
everywhere in aspects of everyday life and the statue of St. Ignatius is a symbol of
God s presence. I believe the statue speaks to both non Christians and Christian. The
statue depicts gratitude a non Christian should feel, for St. Ignatius founded schools,
like Le Moyne College. Therefore, St. Ignatius promotes a person s education and
opportunities in life, whether a person is a Christian or not. Likewise, the lasting
relationships within a college community is promoted through St. Ignatius. He
influenced the core values that a person accumulates throughout a Jesuit college, and
with continue to acquire after college. As one can see, the statue is a visible sign of
Christianity that cultivates its viewer, whether the person is Christian or
50. Gender Roles In The Movie Gidget
Gidget: Breaking Waves and Gender Role Gidget, a 1959 film about a young girl
who falls in love with surfing, helped establish a prominent foundation for surfing in
California. To some, the film may simply be a feel good story about surfing and
American teen culture. To others, it s about breaking stereotypical genderroles and
their associated societal norms. The film released soon after World War II and the
subsequent baby boom. This was a time with gave Americans a fresh new look on
life, and a time when many young adults and teens had plenty of leisure time. Gidget
also marked the end of an era and the start of a new one. Surfing and Gidget play a
monumental role in shaping this new era by defying gender roles and leaving a
lasting imprint on society. In 1950 s society, both women and men had their place.
Although men may have more opportunities and differentiation than women, they
both still have their places. Generally, a womans literal place is in the household,
often the kitchen to be more exact. The typical housewife wears a conservative
dress, heels, pearls, and possibly an apron depending on whether they are on duty
or not. This standard lifestyle of women is portrayed well through Gidget s mother.
Gidget, however, does not seem to want to follow in the footsteps of her mother in
this jail cell of a stereotypical matriarchal role. Instead of wiping cake batter off her
fingers, Gidget would rather wipe sand off her feet after a long day of surfing. While

Discuss the ways in which the poets present character and voice in; Medusa and
Les Grands Seigneurs The two poems; Medusa and Les Grands Seigneurs (LGS)
have their similarities and differences. The most obvious being both speakers are
women and how they subdue men. However, the most apparent difference is the
way both poets present character, with Medusa and her jealousy and mistrust
towards her partner; ...a doubt, a jealously . The standards of a woman are lowered;
she is bitter, vicious and twisted. Having snakes for hair and revealing the monster
she has become, whereas in LGS the dominance and prowess of the woman is

The use of this here is to symbolise the sexual meaning in butt which carries a
double meaning, men were her support, allowing the voice of the poem to have a

again reinforcing her superiority. In verse two the bowers is a reference to a
shady or leafy recess where lovers might go, however the courtesan could not
marry as she was out of reach , once again augmenting the semantic field.
Continuing with the first stanza LGS much like Medusa uses pleasant images,
albeit they are sexual puns; peacocks and cockatoos . Here the voice is suggesting
men are birds, that they show off their colours (peacocks) or their feathers stand up
(cockatoos). Both poems present voice in the form of a 1st person narrative,
allowing the reader to see the point of view (opinions and thoughts) of the narrator.
The poem Medusa calls out directly to the you , the lover; and here you come .
LGS on the other hand speaks out to the men and their desperation, how they are
shallow creatures; men were my dolphins . One thing the poems have in common is
found in the first word of the first verse, LGS uses; men and Medusa uses a
suspicion . The effect of this is that the poems straight into the subject, with Duffy s
use of suspicion inferring that the speaker is paranoid. Looking at the final stanza in
LGS the voice has changed from active to passive, the

passed by the EPA and the National Marine Fisheries Service that make salmonfarms
in Puget Sound not liable to general sediment management standards breaches on the
Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act
. Because the Plaintiff argues that
both the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act were violated, there are

both the EPA and the Fisheries Service failed to take into account the best scientific

completely unique approach to a romance story, deprived of all the cliches of

The book is unique Because it is in a letter form, from Min s perspective. If the
novel would have been from Ed s perspective the story would have been completely
different. It would have been the classic love story where the popular guy starts
dating the girl that is outstanding and is nothing compared to the girls he has ever
been with, the girl would have gotten to see and discover the real him that noone
has yet seen, then he would face an obstacle in his life, everything would go
downhill just like any other classic love story that we are used to reading. The
writing style is very interesting because the chapters were very descriptive especially
with the help of visuals. Although some chapters felt like they were being rushed, it
wasn t a big issue since all the other chapters were astonishing. Since the romance
novel is describing items in a breakup box, the illustrator Maira Kalman paintings
are used as a portion of enhancement that made the items worth sparing. Anyone who
has experienced heartbreak would find Min s arguments relatable. One of the many
reasons why I enjoyed this book is because many readers can relate to Min s
situation. Throughout the novel we find out that Min and Ed are from different social
groups, and because they are so young readers like myself can relate and understand
their problems. The audience can usually find themselves in situations
