Student Services at the State Library of NSW provides library cards for access to resources, research guides on various topics, and shelves containing study materials for the HSC including textbooks, guides, and materials for personal interest projects. The library also offers access to e-resources and staff are available to answer any questions.

Editor's Notes
- Whenever we provide a program for students we ask the class to sign up for a library card, we then hand out the cards to the group when they come in.
- Library Card can be picked up from the Library or sent to your home address. Need Library Card to access e-resources and book study rooms
- Two English Guides, Standard and Advanced and Extension. Many Legal Studies guides. Using springshare software
- The Research Guides are knowledge banks listing supporting material in this case for Standard English, and can be used by going into the different tabs. This tab is for the ‘area of study: Discovery’. It is divided by general resources, prose and non-fiction, drama etc. We have tried to include as many online resources (see arrows) as possible so that the guide is useful for clients using it offsite. The little sign with the library card and library building indicates that the resource can be used on- and offsite. On the side we have tried to include as many other information as possible, such as eg a link to our ‘Discovery’ Pinterest Board. In regards to Discovery, we also help students directly in the Reading Room when they have a question in regards to ‘discovery’ and we also provide research skills for ‘HSC students programs’ Pauline will talk about this. We can taylor the program to a particular subject and for English we can show the group how to find resources for Discovery. We also educated ourselves and our staff, the presenters of our program and client service staff on what the area of study ‘Discovery’ involves. We created a cheat sheet and power point presentation.
- From our Pinterest Board again we tried to link to as many online resources as possible, such as some ebooks, maps, explorers journals and photo’s of antyacrtica from our collection
- Under this tab, ‘Resources for Standard English’ we have grouped supporting material under the different modules that are studied by the students
- Under the tab ‘Finding related texts and literary criticism’ all the resources have a description outlining how to find related material and literary criticism. The other tabs cover Shakespeare resources, we have a very strong collection for Shakespeare, and ‘writing guides’. We have also kept the ‘Previous area of study:belonging’ up there for the moment, just in case people need to go back to that.
- We maintain these open access shelves in the Reading Room, containing Excel guides, study guides, general text books and copies of the prize winning Personal Interest Projects or PIPs for Society & Culture

- The Library subscribes to approx. 305 databases, many of which can be accessed from home. A lot of these databases are also listed in the Research Guides, but here is a separate listing
- As you can see I have ticked the Literature and language option and on the right hand sight it then lists the literary databases. Most of these databases are full text and as you can see these ones listed here can all be accessed from home, so you can imagine how exited the students get when they find out they don’t even have to come into the Library. At the top you can see the access point to our EBL e-books, these are also listed in our normal catalogue but also listed separately through this portal.
