The HQ-9 is China's new generation medium- to long-range air defense missile system. It uses an active radar homing missile that is 6.8 meters long, has a maximum speed of Mach 4.2, and carries a 180 kg warhead. The basic formation of an HQ-9 battery consists of one search radar, one tracking radar, one generator truck, and eight transporter erector launchers carrying a total of 32 missiles. Variants include the FT-2000 anti-radiation version, the naval HHQ-9 version, and an upgraded HQ-9A model.
