A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Writing a professional research paper outline is very useful for
organizing your thoughts and ideas on the topic. It doesn’t matter how
many pages your written piece must have, it should consist of an
introduction, the body, and conclusion. The more detailed outline you
create, the more accurate and powerful research paper you get in result.
3. Why do you need to come up with a senior project research paper
outline? The main reason is to see the logical order of all your thoughts.
It helps to keep an eye on a huge amount of information you need for
your research paper. Besides, an outline allows you to see how much
time you need to accomplish each section before you start writing.
4. What is a preliminary outline?
• It connects all your thoughts to each
other;
• It shows which order of your ideas is
the best;
• It defines where gaps might be in
your writing and whether all your
evidence is effective enough to back
up your arguments.
5. TIPS ON CREATING AN OUTLINE
• Before writing paper outlines
Choose a decent topic. It should be
interesting for you as well as for your
readers. It must work to your
strengths so select the one about
which you know something. Consider
your knowledge, interests, your
readers and paper’s aim.
6. • Define your audience
Find out which language will be the most appropriate and
understandable for those you are writing for: jargon or formal language.
Besides, paper’s style and tone are also determined by the audience.
7. • Define the research problem
The research problem is a crucial point
of your paper. It is some condition that
can be improved, an issue to be
removed, or troubling question in theory
or practice which needs to be
investigated or explained.
8. • Specify your main points
Think about the major points
which you’re going to describe
in the introduction and
develop in the body of your
research paper.
9. • Start creating an outline
Begin with the introduction. This part is crucial because after reading
it, your audience will decide whether it is worth to read the rest of the
paper. So, the introduction should be engaging, eye-catching, and
informative (however, don’t overdo here: giving too many details on the
topic is not so good idea).
10. • Catch your reader’s attention:
begin with some examples
from real life, interesting
statistic, or historical
background which introduces
your topic.
11. • Specify key terms which are
crucial in understanding the
topic. Also, point out
background facts on the
subject needed to get to the
point of your written piece.
12. • End your introduction with a thesis statement (an optimal
length is 1-2 sentences). The whole paper will be focused on
it, so make sure your thesis is clear, concise, and never
boring.
13. • The body
List all your points and ideas and back
them up with strong examples, vivid
details, and powerful arguments. If
you’re using some information from
publications of other authors,
paraphrase or quote them accurately.
14. • Don’t avoid ideas which are opposite to yours. In such a way, you will
show the reader you’ve conducted a deep and thorough research on
the topic. Explain why these contrasting arguments are wrong and
yours are more valuable.
15. • Conclusion
Write again your thesis statement but in different words. Make a short
summary of each main point you’ve included in the body (maximum 2
sentences on each idea). Also, write a strong final sentence which ties an
overall idea of your paper together.
16. • Call to action
It is a final message to your
audience and a chance to provoke it.
Leave your readers with something
to think about or call to a
discussion. Use paper outline
example to find out how to do it.
17. OTHER HELPFUL TIPS
• Some students don’t start writing with an introduction: they prefer
creating a thesis and main points first. This part is very important so
no rushing! After you’ve completed your research paper, you can be
more qualified to write a proper introduction.
18. • While researching you can find out new unexpected facts
which can significantly change the focus of your written
piece. It is absolutely OK so feel free to add new sections
and reorganize your outline.
19. • Use transitional words (for instance, in
addition, furthermore, in contrast,
otherwise, in this case, in fact, etc.)
between main ideas and examples
which support them.
• Move from general to specific, from
abstract to concrete. Make your
research paper consistent from the
start to the end. Check this Google
book and find even more tips.
