The interrelationship of biological, psychological and socio cultural dimensions determines the total
personality of an individual. Ikpe (2004) postulated that Sexuality defines the very essence of one s
humanity including one s self image, being male or female, physical looks and reproductive capacity;
that is sexuality is a natural part of life. It is about the way we are made, how we feel about ourselves,
what roles we play in the society and how we procreate . Culture as a way of life determines, to a large
extent, human behaviour. It is patterned, learned, shared and adaptive and is transmittable from one
generation to the other (Basso, 1997). Culture has a way of influencing every thing we do. It can be
perpetuated and has the potential to overpower intervention programmes and educational innovations.
Religious and spiritual beliefs influence feelings about morality, sexual behaviour, pre marital sexual
behaviour, adultery, divorce, contraception, abortion and masturbation (Greenberg et al 2000).
Sexuality education can be seen as yet another religion which is not necessarily different from what
already obtains. What is Sexuality Education? Sexuality education has been given

Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality
Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Counseling by Mark R. McMinn is a book that discusses
two different characteristics of the Christian Counseling field: in counseling sessions and life beyond
the counseling sessions for example, the counselor s job and the counselor s life. Dr. McMinn starts
his book with a brief section written with James Wilhoit that discusses religion in the counseling
office.
This first section talks about the importance of making good use of the Christian faith in counseling
and not focusing on the relationship between psychology and theology (McMinn, 1996, p. 25). It also
states the challenges that religion brings in counseling sessions and how to handle those. In the
chapters that follow, McMinn talks about six Christian concepts in counseling.
McMinn talks about a few challenges when a counselor attempts to integrate psychology and
theology. Some of these are complications of spiritual formation, blurred professional and personal
life, training problems, worldview differences, no scientific support, and unique ethical elements in
religious counseling (McMinn, 1996, p. 46). McMinn talks about three areas that Christian counseling
makes stronger: sense of self, an awareness of human need and limitations that everyone has, and
talking about personal relationships we have with God and others.
In the third chapter, McMinn talks about prayer in counseling. Prayer is a part of life for many people.
Prayer is more than a form of counseling; it

Hybrid Threat Essay
The Hybrid Threat and its Characteristics A hybrid threat is, according to TC 7 100, ?the diverse and
dynamic combination of regular forces, irregular forces, and/or criminal elements all unified to
achieve mutually benefitting effects.?[footnoteRef:1] This essay will address three of the four major
characteristics of a hybrid threat. A hybrid threat comes in different forms, but they almost always
employ some combination of regular forces, irregular forces, and criminal elements simultaneously,
employ an ever changing variety of equipment and tactics, and acquire or refine their ability to

This ability to adapt to current conditions, both politically and militarily, is absolutely necessary for
any force to be able to claim victory. Again, we turn to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah as a
good case study. As suggested by Cordesman, Hezbollah benefits from the quality of Iranian training
and doctrine for its ability to adapt. He points out that ?Hezbollah is probably better trained and more
ready than most guerrilla forces,?[footnoteRef:9] which could be directly resultant from its multiple
battles with Israel. Hezbollah continues to grow stronger with every conflict,[footnoteRef:10] refining
its ability to adapt. [9: Anthony H. Cordesman, Preliminary ?Lessons? of the Israeli Hezbollah War

Personal Statement On Employee Management
Last week I had two shadowing experiences that fell in line with my competencies and two
experiences that did not, but were still extremely important to client management. I worked alongside
the Sales Coordinator Ksenia, the Convention Sales Manager Teagan, the Banquet Manager Luis, and
the Sales Manager Ashley. Last Monday (09/21/15) I had the pleasure of learning the BEO system for
Marriott with the Sales Manager Ashley. Marriott full service hotels do not use Delphi for their BEO s,
instead they use a B.E.O. software specific to Marriott called C.I.T.Y. This is a very difficult software
to operate, and can take months to be completely trained in. Ashley (Sales Manager in charge of BEO
s) who is new to the company and the area was happy to share the knowledge she did know. She didn t
have a full BEO implementation to show me, but she did have a small piece to show me which I found
very interesting. For this specific meeting group, they were have a 3 day meeting that required a
continuous beverage package priced by consumption. C.I.T.Y. is interesting in that it didn t offer an
option to select the continuous beverage package; instead each beverage type had to be selected and
set to price by consumption. Although this was time consuming task, I was able to quickly pick up the
procedure and input the beverage for the last full day of the meeting. This experience lined up
perfectly with my chosen competency Banquet and Catering Sales: Planning Coffee Breaks.

Depression: An Internal Struggle
Depression is a serious mental disorder that can affect anyone. No one is immune to depression, it is
not always avoidable, and it doesn t affect everyone in the same way. Everyone that has suffered
through depression has a different story about it. Depression has affected over 19 million people in the
United States. It is the leading cause of disability for people ages 15 to 44 in the United States, and it
is sometimes referred to as the common cold of mental illnesses because it is so common. Depression
is not something that is always visible and it is often hidden by those that have it. It is important to

The Was A Man With His Own Ideas
Thomas Paine was a man with his own ideas. He was a strong supporter of the French Revolution.
Paine Believes human rights are given by nature. Rights cannot be given by a government because
that implies that human rights are legally allowed to be taken away from someone, thus making rights
a privilege. He believes that the purpose of a government is to protect the individual and his/her
inalienable rights that they carry. He claims that an illegitimate way of government is a monarchy and
an aristocracy. Paine highly disliked the systems of a monarchy he called it a silly, contemptible thing
. He states the first kings were a sort of bandits. He says they seized control of new start up societies
as he says the kings took control of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people are not allowed to meddle with creating and fixing laws. The life of a monarchy
government is an expensive life. Thus requires the king to tax his people. When the monarch is
oppressive this is when the people have no voice. Any demonstration or outcry by the people will get
shut down quickly. They can stay in power for decades only death can stop a monarch. If the monarch
is a tyrant like leader the people must endure these hardships for as long as that monarch is alive.
Monarchs successors can sometimes be not the brightest individuals. They might not possess the
actual knowledge to functionally run a country. Not one person can run a country. The old style of
monarchies and governments did not produce order. Most of what they produced were wars and taxes
on the people. Depending on the monarch they may be lenient or they might be controlling in the
rights and laws for the people. This infringes on the natural rights and laws people are granted with. A
monarch could take away the laws and rights that we are born with a simple word uttered by him.
Rights and laws given by nature to all humans could be taken away in a split second by this monarch.
Paine later compares the two style of governments, a monarchy and a republic where he writes that a
monarchy Is extremely less valuable than a republic. Paine later describes that new republican style of
governments like those in America and France are much more beneficial to a

Analysis Of Stolen Childhood
In the book entitled Stolen Childhood, Second Edition: Slave Youth in Nineteenth Century America,
the thesis of which the author speaks is clearly stated in the concluding sentence of the fourth
paragraph of the introduction which says that slaves were made to work like adults even though some
were still young. They also had to face all the same conditions as adults. Far from being childlike
throughout their lives, slaves were forced to confront adult situations of work, terror, injustice, and
arbitrary power at an early age. Slaves almost had no childhood. Slave owners made youngsters start
working at 4 5 years of age. Also, in the book it mentions that the children played games (whites and
blacks played together) in which the black children were made to feel like they were lesser than the
white children. This made them feel injustice. Furthermore, children witnessed the cruel and hostile
beatings which their parents received from their owners, leaving marks and scars all over their bodies.
This made fear and terror become a frequent concern in their everyday lives. Once reaching the
middle of the book, the author had made her thesis convincing by showing situations in which young
slaves faced injustice, fear, and difficult situations of work in their everyday lives. Many of her
arguments made her thesis stronger and stronger which made it persuading. But more specifically, the
reasons why it was convincing is because one of her points states that when children were

The Impact Of Clustering Methods For Pricing A Large...
The Impact of Clustering Method for Pricing a Large Portfolio of VA Policies 1 Variable Annuity
Variable annuities(VAs) are popular life insurance products in the insurance industry. VAs are long
term contracts designed for offering post retirement income (Bacinelloa, Millossovich, Olivieri,
Pitacco, 2011). VAs have attractive features such as dynamic investment opportunity and guarantees
against the investment and early death risks. A single premium or recurrent premiums from
policyholders are invested into the different risk return portfolio decided by the policyholders. There
are different reference funds in each different risk return portfolio. Different risk return portfolio can
be changed at no cost under some constraint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these risks interact each other and the iteraction is not fully understood. Appropriate risk
management is required. Pricing and hedging of guarantees is the major concern of the contract
design. This risk should be considered during the process of pricing. For example, Bacinelloa,
Millossovich, Olivieri and Pitacco(2011) introduced a unifying valuation approach for VAs depending
on different assumptions of policyholder behavior 1.1Guaranteed Minimum Benefits There are two
main classes of guarantees: Guaranteed Minimum Death Benefit (GMDB)and Guaranteed Minimum
Living Benefit (GMLB). There are three types of benefits in GMLB: Guaranteed Minimum
Accumulation Benefit (GMAB), Guaranteed Minimum Income Benefit (GMIB), Guaranteed
Minimum Withdrawal Benefit (GMWB). The simplest form of guaranteed benefit is Guaranteed
Minimum Accumulation Benefit, it provides a minimum account value at maturity. Usually, the
minimum account value is the initial premium amount. It gives the policyholders the chance of
renewing account value at maturity when the investment performance is bad. Guaranteed Minimum
Income Benefit also provides a guaranteed account value at maturity, but policyholders only can take
out the account value in the form of annuity at specified annuity rate. This guarantee also reduces the
risk from the annuity rate at maturity. In the money means that the annuity payment resulting from

The Importance Of Gothicism In Jane Austen s Novel...
The class of the novel started just in the eighteenth century however since its exceptionally beginning
it grew quickly. Distinctive sorts of the class rose, for instance a novel of conduct, a household novel
or a Gothic novel. The Gothic novel is a well unmistakable sort among the others and has a critical
effect on the improvement of the entire type of the novel. In opposition to Neoclassicism which
adulated realism, Gothicism did not trail the principles of etiquette, did not matter instructive
highlights but rather put highlight on secret, ponder and sublimity. Along these lines, Gothic fiction
increased tremendous prevalence among the users. In any case, after numerous books of the kind
being distributed, they ended up being regular too every one of the stories connected a similar
arrangement of highlights for the setting, plot and characters. That brought a rush of feedback of the
Gothic novel and started the act of satirizing its traditions. One of the best parodists of Gothic moved
toward becoming Jane Austen with her novel Northanger Abbey. This exposition exhibits the essential
highlights of Gothic fiction and Jane Austen s techniques for mocking them.
The primary section concentrates on the introduction of the Gothic traditions. It is essential to

Essential Illness In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Author George R.R. Martin once said, there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that
man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Comparably this is exemplified
through the Holocaust. Hitler when a civil man, but once he was handed power, he instantly overused
it which caused him to harm millions of innocent people. Golding and authors Hersh, Tahiri, and
Schwartz, have revealed this situation through their stories to show how mankind s essential illness
affects those of all ages through different conditions. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding
uses Jack s desire for blood and to kill to portray man becoming savage from a civil state. Similarly

The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune
In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a
stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula
Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently.
The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with
its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the
limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life.
Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively
communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert
focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions,
however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole
serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may
presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics
are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the
course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined
complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological
fragility.

Von Neumann planned the Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer (EDVAC) in 1945 with a

programming. The key component to the von Neumann construction modeling was the focal
transforming unit, which permitted all machine capacities to be facilitated through a solitary source. In
1951, the UNIVAC I (Universal Automatic Computer), manufactured by Remington Rand, turned into
one of the first monetarily accessible machines to exploit these developments. Both the U.s. Statistics

Atkins Diet Healthy
Is the Atkins Diet healthy?
The Atkins Diet, also known as a ketogenic diet, promotes a low carbohydrate and high fat content in
an individual s eating habits.1 It was designed in 1972 by Dr. Robert Atkins, and its popularity derives
from the elimination of calorie counting and disregard for consumption restrictions on fat, protein
content, or portion size. 2, 3 The Atkins Diet is divided into four stages(insert 3). The initial stage
dramatically decreases carbohydrate intake to less than 20g per day(insert 3). Subsequently, every two
weeks carbohydrate intake increases; with attendant weight loss being a marker of successful
progression.3 This paper evaluates whether or not the Atkins Diet is healthy, in particular it narrows
the focus on aspects of three body systems: the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, and the
nervous system.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death, with
risk factors such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol; obesity, unhealthy eating, and
physical inactivity among others (cite CDC and NIH). The standard diet that is prevalent among the
American culture, is one that is rich in carbohydrates with a high glycemic index.4 ... Show more

Tai Chi Flexibility Exercise
The Effects of a Tai Chi Exercise Program on Static Postural Balance, Flexibility, and Lower Limb
Strength
Joseph Harwood
February 25th, 2016 Falling in the elderly is often due to poor balance which results from decreased
muscular strength, flexibility, and coordination (Yu and Yang, 2012). This loss of muscular strength
and flexibility in seniors is thought to be due to a lack of exercise (Saravanakumar et al., 2014). One
popular form of exercise among seniors is Tai Chi because it is a positive method for improving
balance and flexibility; which can reduce the occurrence of falling in the elderly (Yu and Yang, 2012).

The Deviant Globalization From Gilman s Perspective
Globalization is a developmental process of transnational integration, which mainly reflects on the
economic aspect. The moral standards and legal systems in different regions are changing differently
along with the progress of the society. However, when mentioned globalization, people mostly refer to
mainstream globalization. Deviant globalization the rebarbative dark side of the global economy is
ignored constantly. There is a distinctive evaluation from Nils Gilman deviant globalization is a form
of development. As Harvey (2006) said that human, finance, goods, ideas and services are considered
increasingly as the important factors in the development of globalization. Therefore, it could be
discussed from economic, political and social perspectives to measure the deviant globalization. This
essay aims to analyse the deviant globalization from Gilman s perspective. Defining the deviant
globalization and analysing how the deviant globalization forms firstly, and using examples to explain
the reasons of development of these three perspectives.
As Gilman, et al (2013) written that deviant globalization refers to meet the demand for illicit or
immoral commodities and services which are provided by other different places with disparate moral
standards or inefficient governments. The range of deviant globalization is wide, for example, money
laundering, unlawful sexual trafficking as well as organ trade and so forth. Moreover, deviant

Beverly Hills nightclub in southern California (Biography.com Editors). When the two had met in

Their bodies were found stabbed outside of her Los Angeles condominium (Biography.com Editors).
The final verdict in this case could have been different if the evidence was present properly and
uncontaminated. The major problem in this case was in fact the evidence and there was a lot of
evidence that could have potentially got a conviction of O.J. Simpson. The failure to present high
quality evidence in court was where the case took a turn for the worst. The different evidence in this
case consists of the following: the Rockingham glove, the sock, the Bronco, and the Bundy Crime
scene just to name a few (Thompson, 1996). DNA was found on the majority of the evidence that was
collected. Some of the main places where DNA was found were specifically at the Bundy Crime scene
and in the Bronco (Kolata, 1995). When looking over the crime scene, there were about eight blood
stains or drops found outside of the residence. Five of the blood drops were found on the Bundy
walkway and three blood stains were found from the rear gate (Thompson, 1996). The blood that was
found at the crime scene were matches with the victims, Nicole and Ronald Goldman. The blood
drops and stains that were found outside of the residence were consistent with the DNA profiles of
O.J. Simpson (Thompson, 1996). Along with the blood drops and stains, there were bloody shoe prints

Roles Of The English Monarchy
The English monarchy s role is to govern the United Kingdom, to unite, keep the United Kingdom
safe, and represent Britain. The English monarchy has been around for centuries since the Romans to
modern day England. The Monarchs take on duties that have been around for centuries. The monarch,
however, is a constitutional monarchy which means that according to the constitution there are rules
that monarchs must follow. She does not act alone but works with Parliament, the country s legislative
body. One of the official duties of the monarchy is to schedule meetings with the Prime Minister to
discuss on Parliament s latest debates and new bills being formed. The monarchy must give her
approval of the bills before Parliament passes them and they become law. The monarchs residual
powers include enacting legislation, giving out awards of honor, to sign treaties, and to declare war.
The monarch also has the power to decline the government s request to dissolve Parliament and call an
election. The monarch chooses a Prime Minister to guide the monarchy and is responsible for policies
and decisions in government. Today, England s current Prime Minister is Theresa May as of July 13th.

Spinal Cord Injury Research
Many spinal cord injuries (SCI) patients are suffering from the impairment of impulse conduction and
they are unable to carry out their activities of daily living. Rehabilitation becomes an important role in
enhancing motor recovery and minimizing the deficits of their movement function. The goal of this
research is to deliver natural gait behavior of a rat through active robotics and intelligent system for
the SCI Sprague Dawley rat. The advance of this research is not only the rehabilitation novel system
but also the regenerative medicine novel method from the cooperation of school of chemical and
biomedical engineering (SCBE). In order to reach this goal, the first design of robotic module which
composes of a body weight support system, treadmill for training motor functions and five bar linkage
for driving rat s ankle is built to do a preliminary test with the spinal cord injury rats which are totally

Leibniz Evil
The Problem of Evil
When talking about the existence of God there is always this problem of evil in the world. The people
who already believe tend to not answer the question with anything very satisfying for a nonbeliever. In
Leibnizs God, Evil and The Best of All Possible Worlds it is best addressed that there are the question
of why God is allowing such evil in the world. Where as Saint Anselm doesn t even acknowledge that
God is anything but great. However, both of their arguments are still not to par for anyone looking for
answers to the question of Evil.
Anselm s Ontological Argument has five parts to explain why someone should believe in god. None of
the have any concreteness to them. There is nothing to make someone believe who ... Show more

For someone to believe in god he has to already believe in god. The argument is not convincing. When
Gotteried Leibniz makes his argument about god he at least acknowledges the evil in the world. He
gives reasoning and answers to the questions people have with the evil in the world. This problem of
evil is hard to get through for anyone who has experienced hardship or pain. The omnipotent god that
is referred to is one who is all knowing, powerful and good yet he made a world without those
qualities. His answer was that evil is accompanied by a greater good. (pg.89) the second part of his
argument discusses the amount of evil in the world. His answer to this was god in infinite and so is his
goodness whereas evil in finite and will not carry into our after life. (pg.90)
For him to say that there could possibly be more good than evil in absurd because how could he know
this. Then to assume that the goodness will be infinite we have to assume there is an afterlife that we
will be conscious for. These arguments are based on the fact that someone already believes in god so
they do work in favor of the argument he is trying to provide. Both Leibniz and Anselm offer
arguments that only work if you already believe and do nothing for people who do not believe in the

Anglo Saxon England Research Paper
Until today, the English monarchs bear the title Duke of Normandy. Anglo Saxon England refers to
the period of English history from the end of Roman Britain and the establishment of Anglo Saxon
kingdoms. Through the sub Roman period of English history, there is a strong cultural link back to the
period of Roman occupation. Relations were closer with Scandinavia than with central Europe.
Despite the geographical proximity of the French coast when the Anglo Saxon period ended and the
Norman period began. Moreover, this comparative isolation from Europe also ended. By the end of
the Anglo Saxon period, England had taken the shape of the country that continues to be the Kingdom
of England now within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Throughout the long Anglo Saxon period of England s history, the kingdoms existed as an offshore
island of continental Europe. The subsequent mixture of Anglo Saxon and Norman French cultures
became, over the years, a foundation for integrating England into the European cultural life. Anyone
who believed that history is not only a series of accidents might well see God s hand behind the
creation of an empire. England also became embroiled in a series of European ... Show more content

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interrelationship of biological, psychological and socio cultural dimensions determines the total personality of an individual. Ikpe (2004) postulated that Sexuality defines the very essence of one s humanity including one s self image, being male or female, physical looks and reproductive capacity; that is sexuality is a natural part of life. It is about the way we are made, how we feel about ourselves, what roles we play in the society and how we procreate . Culture as a way of life determines, to a large extent, human behaviour. It is patterned, learned, shared and adaptive and is transmittable from one generation to the other (Basso, 1997). Culture has a way of influencing every thing we do. It can be perpetuated and has the potential to overpower intervention programmes and educational innovations. Religious and spiritual beliefs influence feelings about morality, sexual behaviour, pre marital sexual behaviour, adultery, divorce, contraception, abortion and masturbation (Greenberg et al 2000). Sexuality education can be seen as yet another religion which is not necessarily different from what already obtains. What is Sexuality Education? Sexuality education has been given ... • 6. Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Counseling by Mark R. McMinn is a book that discusses two different characteristics of the Christian Counseling field: in counseling sessions and life beyond the counseling sessions for example, the counselor s job and the counselor s life. Dr. McMinn starts his book with a brief section written with James Wilhoit that discusses religion in the counseling office. This first section talks about the importance of making good use of the Christian faith in counseling and not focusing on the relationship between psychology and theology (McMinn, 1996, p. 25). It also states the challenges that religion brings in counseling sessions and how to handle those. In the chapters that follow, McMinn talks about six Christian concepts in counseling. McMinn talks about a few challenges when a counselor attempts to integrate psychology and theology. Some of these are complications of spiritual formation, blurred professional and personal life, training problems, worldview differences, no scientific support, and unique ethical elements in religious counseling (McMinn, 1996, p. 46). McMinn talks about three areas that Christian counseling makes stronger: sense of self, an awareness of human need and limitations that everyone has, and talking about personal relationships we have with God and others. In the third chapter, McMinn talks about prayer in counseling. Prayer is a part of life for many people. Prayer is more than a form of counseling; it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Personal Statement On Employee Management Last week I had two shadowing experiences that fell in line with my competencies and two experiences that did not, but were still extremely important to client management. I worked alongside the Sales Coordinator Ksenia, the Convention Sales Manager Teagan, the Banquet Manager Luis, and the Sales Manager Ashley. Last Monday (09/21/15) I had the pleasure of learning the BEO system for Marriott with the Sales Manager Ashley. Marriott full service hotels do not use Delphi for their BEO s, instead they use a B.E.O. software specific to Marriott called C.I.T.Y. This is a very difficult software to operate, and can take months to be completely trained in. Ashley (Sales Manager in charge of BEO s) who is new to the company and the area was happy to share the knowledge she did know. She didn t have a full BEO implementation to show me, but she did have a small piece to show me which I found very interesting. For this specific meeting group, they were have a 3 day meeting that required a continuous beverage package priced by consumption. C.I.T.Y. is interesting in that it didn t offer an option to select the continuous beverage package; instead each beverage type had to be selected and set to price by consumption. Although this was time consuming task, I was able to quickly pick up the procedure and input the beverage for the last full day of the meeting. This experience lined up perfectly with my chosen competency Banquet and Catering Sales: Planning Coffee Breaks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rights cannot be given by a government because that implies that human rights are legally allowed to be taken away from someone, thus making rights a privilege. He believes that the purpose of a government is to protect the individual and his/her inalienable rights that they carry. He claims that an illegitimate way of government is a monarchy and an aristocracy. Paine highly disliked the systems of a monarchy he called it a silly, contemptible thing . When the monarch is oppressive this is when the people have no voice. Any demonstration or outcry by the people will get shut down quickly. They can stay in power for decades only death can stop a monarch. If the monarch is a tyrant like leader the people must endure these hardships for as long as that monarch is alive. Monarchs successors can sometimes be not the brightest individuals. They might not possess the actual knowledge to functionally run a country. Not one person can run a country. The old style of monarchies and governments did not produce order. Most of what they produced were wars and taxes on the people. Depending on the monarch they may be lenient or they might be controlling in the rights and laws for the people. This infringes on the natural rights and laws people are granted with. A monarch could take away the laws and rights that we are born with a simple word uttered by him. Rights and laws given by nature to all humans could be taken away in a split second by this monarch. Paine later compares the two style of governments, a monarchy and a republic where he writes that a monarchy Is extremely less valuable than a republic. • 11. Analysis Of Stolen Childhood In the book entitled Stolen Childhood, Second Edition: Slave Youth in Nineteenth Century America, the thesis of which the author speaks is clearly stated in the concluding sentence of the fourth paragraph of the introduction which says that slaves were made to work like adults even though some were still young. They also had to face all the same conditions as adults. Far from being childlike throughout their lives, slaves were forced to confront adult situations of work, terror, injustice, and arbitrary power at an early age. Slaves almost had no childhood. Slave owners made youngsters start working at 4 5 years of age. Also, in the book it mentions that the children played games (whites and blacks played together) in which the black children were made to feel like they were lesser than the white children. This made them feel injustice. Furthermore, children witnessed the cruel and hostile beatings which their parents received from their owners, leaving marks and scars all over their bodies. This made fear and terror become a frequent concern in their everyday lives. Once reaching the middle of the book, the author had made her thesis convincing by showing situations in which young slaves faced injustice, fear, and difficult situations of work in their everyday lives. Many of her arguments made her thesis stronger and stronger which made it persuading. But more specifically, the reasons why it was convincing is because one of her points states that when children were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently. The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life. Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions, however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological fragility. ...
