Bill Cosby s Accusers Case
Following recent reports on the Bill Cosby rape accusations case which state that the famous
comedian obtained drugs known as Quaaludes in the intention to drug young women and have sex
with them, some reports suggest that Cosby s accusers are now afraid that the actor will try to make a
run for it. According to New York Times, Cosby testified in 2005 that he obtained Quaaludes which
are central nervous system depressants. He then admitted that he used the drugs in the intention to
make women have sexual relations with him. There are currently 36 accusations against Cosby, and
most of the women claim that they took a pill from him, whether to relax or feel better, and some
claim that the actor had slipped drugs into their drinks. During a four days time in 2005 and 2006,
Cosby was taken to the stand, where he answered questions about the Andrea Constand sexual
molestation. According to Cosby, the sexual encounter was consensual because Constand did not look
angry and because she never said anything that might have hinted her disaproval. Cosby stated that he
had romantic feelings towards Constand the minute he saw her at Temple, where he served on the
board of trustees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosby also talked about his relationship with Beth Ferrier, one of the women who accused the actor of
sexual harrasment. When Cosby was asked to describe his relationship with Ferrier, he said We had
sex and we had dinners and sex and rendezvous. U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno unsealed 16
court filings on July 6, which Cosby s lawyers appealed to. The filings quote him saying that he
obtained the quaaludes in order to give them to women. Since then, a court reporting service released
the full deposition which contains Cosby s testimony about sexually assaulting dozens of women, one
of which is the plaintiff Andrea

The, An American Classical Scholar
In the 20th century Milman Parry, an American classical scholar, began to draw on the work of the
Analysts and Unitarians to establish a hypothesis of an oral Homeric tradition which would prove to
be revolutionary. By observing South Slavic oral poetry first hand, he was able to prove that the
formulaic structure of Homeric epic was characteristic of oral composition. Due to the pressure of
composition in performance, as would have been the norm, he also demonstrated that repeated words
or phrases would have been fundamental in the composition of oral epic poetry. Whether these took
the form of noun epithet formulas, larger formulaic phrases or entire scenes, the mnemonic power
which they created served to make epic poetry entirely possible. Parry defined these formulas as an
expression regularly used, under the same metrical conditions, to express an essential idea . Following
from Lord s assessment of the first 15 lines of the Iliad, he estimated that up to 90% of the total poem
consisted of formulas or contained formulaic elements. While studying those formulas comprising of a
noun and fixed epithet, Parry called attention to the fact that they almost always appeared directly
after the mid verse caesura or after the caesura in the fourth foot and thus conveniently fell into the
cola of the hexameter. Now the poet had a vast library of stock phrases at their disposal which they
could employ whenever the metre required. Such phrases include ( swift footed Achilles ) and

The American Civil War helped to save the nation by...
The American Civil War helped to save the nation by rejoining Union Confederate and as result of the
Emancipation Proclamation, most African American slaves were declared freed men. However, during
the American Reconstruction, the lack of political unity was still very apparent as the South saw
Reconstruction as being defeated humiliatingly and thus sought vengeance through the slaves it had
lose. Although many slaves did receive their freedom, Reconstruction caused an increase in the white
supremacy groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and laws such black codes/ Jim Crow laws/

The main success of the Bureau lies in the establishment of schools. It spent over five million dollars
for the creation of schools; by 1870, there were over 1000 schools in the south. It helped to found
some historically black colleges and universities such as Howard University. In addition to school, it
also helped with the funding of churches. Unfortunately, by 1971, it had lost most of its funding and
consequently, its staff members. It failed to carry out any long term protection for freed slaves and did
not produce any real measure of equality in the South. One opponent of the Bureau was President
Andrew Johnson. He returned confiscated property to white Confederates, pardoned hundreds of
former Confederate officers, soldiers and government officials, and tried to limit the amount of land
the Bureau could sell by taking the land the Union had confiscated and gave to the Bureau and giving
it to previous white landowners. When Congress first passed a bill in February, 1866, to extend the
Bureau s existence and to give it new legal powers to sell land, Johnson vetoed the proposed
legislation and argued that it interfered with states rights, gave preference to one group of people over
another and would be financially stressful on the government because of its extended funding.

Designing A Curriculum Using The Understanding By Design...
The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design
framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives.
Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning.
Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing
instruction.
Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding
and make informed decisions about instruction.
After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I have
gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi
layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I need to first
assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is important to
learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first
civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as
understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states, in
relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a variety of areas.
Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do.
The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding

Informative Speech On Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that involves the reproductive glands females only, the ovaries.
Ovaries contain 3 cells: surface epithelium, germ cells, and stromal cells. The surface epithelium are
what cover the outer lining of the ovaries. Germ cells are cells that are bound to form eggs. Stromal
cells are cells that release hormones and connects many different structures of the ovaries. Each of the
cells can develop into different types of tumors. In most cases of ovarian cancer the epithelial tumors
is the most commonly found in ovarian tumors. When being diagnosed with ovarian cancer the 3 main
organs affected are the intestines, liver, and stomach.

Chaos In Hamlet Essay
When together with forms, moods, [and] shapes of grief, Hamlet performs irrational actions that cost
the Kingdom of Denmark to lose its order (1.2.82 84). Shakespeare s Hamlet allows the reader to visit
the chaotic world of Hamlet and see how he deals with chaos within the kingdom. The play begins
with the death of Hamlet s father. The reader later finds out that Claudius, Hamlet s stepfather, was the
the murderer. Shakespeare s stylistic choice establishes chaos within the Kingdom of Denmark, this
affects multiple characters as they try to manipulate, deceive, and outwit their enemies. According to
Dictionary.com, Chaos is defined as a state of utter confusion or disorder. Hamlet s passion within the
kingdom causes him to make irrational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Claudius manipulates Hamlet s words and carefully constructs his speeches in front of the people of
Denmark. Claudius recognizes that Hamlet is causing chaos within the kingdom, so in an attempt to
maintain order, he sends Hamlet off to England where it would be unfortunate if he died. Claudius, in
desperation, orders Hamlet to go to England where to thine own peace, his death [will be called an]
accident[al] tragedy (4.7.61 68). This action taken by Claudius causes more chaos, especially when
Hamlet finds out his plans to behead him. As a result, Hamlet changes the orders in the letter from
Claudius to where Claudius s helpers die instead. Another example, Polonius, a sponge of Claudius,
spies on Hamlet and Gertrude s conversation. As a result Hamlet stabs Polonius hiding behind the
curtain, and he is dead for a ducant (3.4.24). This symbolizes how much of a sponge Polonius was
toward Claudius, and in the end it ended up costing him his own life because of greed for money. In
Claudius s attempts to maintain order, he fails to realize that his intentions of covering up his sins
backfires on him, thus resulting in more

Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural
Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the unknown
and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy then go to
something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive to dead, which
could be a supernatural element. Also because change will create fear for the reader. Here s a quote
that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game changed. (Lalah
Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it will kick in that it s not
real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts for example. We read the
story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair
being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows
how a character may have been doing something then suddenly here s something then or scared or
startled. Another example would be possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was
possessed. During the movie it says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps
(William the exorcist ). Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a
different type of fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens.
Something goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing
could happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared.
Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is There
a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp, dampening dusk
the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room table and the father
appeared covertly out the window (Oates pg69). Being unsure of what a strangers doing at your house
makes you nervous and fearful he will do something to your family. There is then dreams. Have you
ever had a bad dream? Waking up in the middle of the night when you re young. Even getting a dream
catcher because you think it ll help stop bad

Analysis Of The Article With North Korea
The article, With North Korea, we do have cards to play, was featured in The Washington Post, a
center left publication, on 4/20/2017. The author of the article is Charles Krauthammer. Krauthammer
is a weekly writer for The Washington Post, a Fox News commentator, and a Pulitzer Prize recipient
(Charles Krauthammer). This piece argues for a diplomatic solution to the North Korean crisis in
which China places strong pressure on the North Korean government in order for them to give up their
nuclear program.
The five elements of the critical eye are accuracy, objectivity, completeness, possible options or
solutions, and a realistic discussion. The vast majority of the article features accurate information.

Even North Korea did have the capability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb, their ballistic missiles do not

missiles in development (North Korean Ballistic Missile Models, 2016). The following paragraph
states that the North Koreans have made significant progress with solid fuel rockets (Krauthammer,
2017). According to a report in The Telegraph, North Korea has made progress with solid fueled
rockets. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the North Koreans have the ability to store the solid fuel long
term. This paragraph also states that solid fueled rockets are harder to shoot down. While this is true,
in most cases the rocket have reduced launch times and countermeasures. Paragraph four is where the
author misleads the audience. He states that North Korea has an estimated 10 to 16 [nuclear weapons].
By 2020, it could very well have a hundred (Krauthammer, 2017). This estimate was taken out of the
incorrect context. This information is based on a quotation from the top North Korean analyst at Johns
Hopkins University. The 100 nuclear weapons were the least likely scenario. When discussing this
issue, the top analyst stated that a worst case scenario , in which North Korea makes dramatic
technological advances in both its nuclear programme and delivery systems, would permit Pyongyang

In this article journal, Larry makes a crucial distinction between self interested opposition to
slaveholder power and moral opposition to slavery as an oppressive institution. He praised his
contemporaries for restoring slavery to narratives of the sectional conflict but worried that the impact
of the new scholarship might prove more misleading than helpful. Recognizing that antiracism and
support for African American civil rights informed scholarly interpretations of Civil War causation,
Larry warned: Moral indignation at racial prejudice in the twentieth century does not necessarily
provide the key to an understanding of the dispute between the sections in the nineteenth century.

The World Trade Center Of The United States
On September 11th, 2001, terrorism reached American soil; attacks were specifically made on Lower
Manhattan, causing the destruction of every World Trade Center associated building. The attack to this
day has still instilled fear of terrorism in our society, and is an event New Yorkers will never forget.
Dating back to July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed in the United States,
declaring the thirteen colonies free from Great Britain. It is no coincidence that the new 1 WTC,
previously known as the Freedom Tower, reaches its maximum height of 1,776 feet. The name
Freedom Tower was originally used to symbolize America as a nation to rise above the attacks on the
original towers. Architectures strategically planned out its symbolic height to match up with its
specific chosen name of the building. However, the owners decided to change the building name back
to One World Trade Center due to the fact that the building was going to be used as an office building
and not for marketing. Nonetheless, many people still refer to 1 WTC as the Freedom Tower. Fast
forward ten years later from the attack, on September 11th, 2011, the 9/11 Memorial officially opened
for public use. The 9/11 Memorial has not only been one of New York s biggest tourist destinations
that attracts crowds of thousands on a daily basis, but it has also acted as an area that brings back
many memories and emotions for those with any association of that day. With the history of the

ranging from music to daily events that shape our world. There I had a chance to share my opinions

questions like, why censor a record that does little more than personalize the struggles of abortion and
prompt a national dialogue on the topic? I clicked on the reply button, and I started responding to all
these messages. I spent more than an hour browsing the site and responding to all these questions that
sparked an interest in me. Some people had great sense of humors, and others didn t do anything else
but criticize anyone who didn t agree with his/her own opinion. There were several drawbacks in my
community. The previous day I had posted several questions that I wanted people to answer to, but
since the community is so large, my message was lost in the middle of several other messages. I had

My Experience In My First Day Of College
It was a warm and sunny day, I was able to sleep until eleven o clock in the mooring. I woke up got
dressed and attended my first college class. Walking across campus, I saw familiar faces from
freshman orientation back in June. I felt comfortable starting my first day of college. I told myself that
this was a new chapter in my life, and I wanted to make something special of it. I wanted to make a
difference. My number one goal was to get myself known. I made so many friends by just simply
making small talk. I know so many faces on campus and I can not wait to see what the future has in
store for me. My personal involvement at Adelphi is the reason why I have made so many friends here
at Adelphi. Starting back in June at Freshman Orientation, I got involved. I took it upon myself to
break the ice within my group. Others were really shy, but I wanted to include everyone and make my
three day experience worth it. Coming back in August was exciting, I got to meet even more people.
Meeting people from all different parts on New York, America, and the world. I think it is so cool that
my neighbors are from Japan. They even gave me some Japanese snacks. The first week at Adelphi
was stressful. I really was not used to living away from home and I got home sick. After going home
the first weekend, I cam back stronger than ever. My email box was flooding with emails from
Adelphi. Emails about getting involved, joining clubs, and events. I attended Caliber which is an

Equality in Opportunity and Equality in Outcome Essay
Diversity, equality and fairness are the latest buzzwords being kicked around in academia and the
media. Everybody is supposed to achieve the American Dream today, regardless of who you are,
where you came from, or what you do to get there. According to their math, equality of opportunity
equals equality of outcome, and if it doesn t, rig the formula so it does. I read a couple of articles in
nj.com recently. In one, a Rutgers Camden professor of Public Policy published a study that found that
more poor people were being concentrated in small to mid size cities today compared to ten years ago.

Captain James Macnamar Trial At The Old Bailey On...
In MacNamara (1803), Captain James MacNamara is brought to trial at the Old Bailey on
manslaughter charges stemming from a duel in which MacNamara killed his adversary, Colonel
Robert Montgomery. Interestingly, an examination of the trial proceedings demonstrates that the
defence focused on the defendant s honourability. Rather than focus on the defendant s criminal
actions, the defence sought to counter the prosecution by highlighting the defendant s actions in
relation to another code, the English code of honour. In spite of a strong prosecution, the jury s verdict
of not guilty in MacNamara is reflective of the vast majority of English criminal trials involving
duelists being ruled in favour of the defendants, demonstrating the subversion of English criminal law
by the code of honour in the Georgian period (1714 1830).
MacNamara (1803) On 6 April 1803, Captain James MacNamara and Colonel Robert Montgomery
travelled on horseback through Hyde Park with their separate entourages and Newfoundland dogs.
The dogs, who had run ahead of their masters, attacked one another. Arriving at the scene of the
canine altercation, Montgomery confronted MacNamara, demanding that the latter restrain his dog.
Sensing a challenge, MacNamara asserted his intention to stand by his dog, accusing Montgomery of
arrogance and disrespect. With neither prepared to concede, both parties agreed to meet later that day
atop Primrose hill in a pistol duel. In the duel, MacNamara fatally wounded

Essay on A Century of Physics
A Century of Physics
By the end of the nineteenth century after more than two thousand years of intellectual struggle that
began with the Greek philosophers, physical scientists had reason to believe that they were beginning
to understand the universe. Their theories of matter and energy, of electricity and magnetism, of heat
and sound and light were confirmed in laboratories throughout the world with increasing precision.
Experimentation was the method and mathematics the language of a powerful coherent body of
knowledge called classical physics. For a few years before and after the turn of the century, the world
was taking a breather from war and rebellion. The monumental achievements of science, technology,

The chance discovery of radioactivity finally signaled the beginning of a new era in physics. As the
element polonium, identified by Polish born Marie Curie in 1898, emits radiation it changes
spontaneously into lead. This discovery shattered the belief inherited from the Greeks that the
elements are immutable and their atoms indestructible.
What causes atoms to decay?
What are they made of?
What forces are at work inside them?
Such questions were new to physics, and were to remain at its cutting edge throughout the twentieth
century. The answers would affect our lives in ways no one could imagine in the year of 1900.
The twentieth century began with a flurry of innovations such as the airplane, the mass produced
automobile, and transatlantic radio communication. They transformed the world, but the changes
sweeping over physics at the same time were far more radical. Those brought about not just different
lifestyles, but new ways of thinking. Modern physics grew out of classical physics and rest of three
pillars: the quantum theory, which describes atoms and their nuclei, Special Relativity, which deals
with the relationship between space and time and General Relativity, which explains gravity. The latter
two were the sole creations of Albert Einstein and even the former received a crucial

enriching their uranium that can be possibly become a nuclear weapon. This gives the west and Israel
a reason to be more worried about the issue. However in all of this there is an admission lately
because Iran and the P 5 +1 have reach a nuclear deal in order to loosen the harsh sanctions they have
received resulting in billions of dollars back to the Iranians in return for shutting down the program for
half a year. However if this politeness and skill with people fails then it is time for crime prevention
method to go into play here and possible military action. There are other nations that have nuclear
weapons like India and Pakistan without a permission slip. So all in all it seems to be unfair that Iran
is being discriminated in all of this but there are clear differences between Iran and Pakistan or even
India. Now some political scientists believe that Iran independent power is being violated if they have
to sign a permission slip to make legal their nuclear program according the IAEA. This would have
been a good argument if Iran didn t accept the deal. But Iran did and they agree to the UN that when
the parts deal demands the Iranians to reduce their purity on their uranium to a lower percentage
where it is suited for nuclear power only to prevent a nuclear armed Iran. So in terms of a nuclear
program the Iranians already accepted to do this directly or indirectly even

Shadow clarified. I can only say that it is not normal for a Servant to challenge his Master nor is it a

the Servant does it during the daylight hours he will have only days to find a new Master before he

One of the many reasons why the jewish called them DEATH CAMPS . (living conditions, labor and

The feeding of the prisoners was a major issue in the concentration camps during the holocaust. The
jewish prisoners were fed three times a day in the concentration camps, those three times were
morning, noon, and evening. (living conditions, labor and executions) It wasn t the amount of food
given a day that was an issue the nutritional value that the Nazis had for the concentration camps.
(living conditions, labor and executions) When the Nazis would feed the prisoners they gave the less
physically demanding workers one thousand three hundred calories per day and gave the ones who
engaged in hard labor one thousand seven hundred calories per day. (living conditions, labor and
executions) This was an issue because after several weeks on such starvation in the camps, most
prisoners began to experience what is called organic deterioration that led to the well known
Muzulman state. (living conditions, labor and executions) This was when the prisoners ended being so
tiny, extreme physical exhaustion, and soon ended up in death. (living conditions, labor and

The Dangerous Everyday
There are things all around us that can be very dangerous and we might never know. Soaps and
detergents are one of those things. Acids and bases are everywhere but, there are two specific types:
Sulphuric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide which we use on a regular day bases. An acid classifies a wide
range of materials including Sulphuric acid and bases Sodium Hydroxide. When manufacturing soaps
they use Sodium Hydroxide, and detergents use Sulphuric Acid. But these two can be very poisonous,
and there are many symptoms that may happen, some even severe. The title shows how much people
may be using dangerous things without having the knowledge that they can harm them.
Acid and bases can be found in our everyday lives. An acid is a compound that usually has a sour
taste, containing hydrogen that can be replaced by a metal to form salt. Bases taste bitter and feel
slippery, their water solution conducts and electric currents. When acids and bases are put together
they make salt and water. The Arrhenius theory states that acids are substances which produce
hydrogen ions in a solution and bases are substances in which produce hydroxide ions in a solution.
Neutralization happens when hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions produce water. Something we use
every is soaps, detergents and fertilizers, all of these have acids and bases. The manufacturing of soaps
use the base Sodium hydroxide and the detergent and fertilizer use Sulphuric acid. Sodium hydroxide

Outsourcing and the Global Environment Essay
Outsourcing and the Global Environment
Abstract
The following paper will detail the impact on businesses concerning outsourcing and the global
environment. This paper will outline the needs of the modern business to embrace the concept of
outsourcing and the need to educate employees on the diversity of global business practices.
Outsourcing
The need of the modern business to look outside of the doors of the company to improve profit
margins has become a necessity in today s market. The advent of technology and crossing of borders
have expanded this search for efficiencies to other countries.
There have been great strides made in the global market to outsource various segments of businesses.
One of the biggest gainers in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last, often unaddressed issue, of outsourcing and displaced American employees is that of the
overpriced employee. The public has become complacent in the fact that no one else will compete for
jobs. Unions have overpriced their employees driving the company to look elsewhere for suitable
replacements. This attitude of inherent job protection from outside sources has actually drove
companies to outsource.
The savings associated from outsourcing by the companies are significant. This savings will reduce as
more companies send jobs overseas. The countries will become savvier at negotiating an equitable
wage for their employees and the cost will go up. At this current time companies are able to capitalize
on the countries being willing to perform work for very little pay to get the business but this will not
always be the case.
Global Awareness.
Companies must educate not only there employees but the public when it comes to the subject of
outsourcing. There are a variety of subject that the employees of a company should be aware of when
business is being conducted abroad. Customs and culture are one of the biggest items that must be
addressed in conducting business.
What was considered taboo in the United States may be an accepted and often expected practice in
some other countries. For instance in some countries it is expected to bribe officials and acceptable
form of business. This would never be tolerated in the United States but is an

Baz Luhrman´s Version of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet...
Baz Luhrman´s Version of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
One of the characteristics of Elizabethan and also Jacobean drama is the low number of stage
directions and the lack of details they contain. As a logical consequence theatrical representations or
film versions of these ages may allow an important quantity of freedom in the performance. In other
instances stage directions and other important theatrical elements are consciously left aside in order to
create totally different visions of the original idea. That is not the case of Baz Luhrman´s version of
Romeo and Juliet filmed in 1996, which despite the numerous alterations of the original play still
retains Shakespeare s initial conception.
On the question of setting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From all this it follows that these types of alterations produced in the setting are intended to give the
story an faster pace and variety to avoid any sign of statism that is a general tendency of commercial
films.
When dealing with characterisation it is necessary to consider that in Shakespeare s work neither the
Capulets nor the Montagues are clearly seen as good or bad characters. On the contrary, Luhrman
shows Lady and Lord Montague much more moderate and peaceful than the furious Lord Capulet and
his frivolous and unfaithful wife. The representatives of both houses who fight in 1.1 are also depicted
as good or bad characters. The Montagues wear bright and colourful clothes making jokes and having
fun. On the contrary the Capulets appear wearing dark clothes, serious and defiant and in the fancy
dress ball scene while the latter are disguised as skeletons except for Tybalt, who is characterised as
the Devil. Apart from this the Romeo appearing in the film seems to take their feelings to the limit,
and Juliet is more than fourteen years old. The aforementioned Tybalt is still being the provocative and
vindictive character whose behaviour provokes the tragic ending, however in Luhrman´s version he
regrets having killed Mercutio and this is what does not let him neither kill Romeo nor defend from
his shots. The most noticeable change affects Paris since from being the young gallant of the play he
turns into an immature and ridicule millionaire.

Research on Density Essay
Density: Using Experimental Techniques to Solve an Inquiry based problem
ABSTRACT
The topic of this experiment is Density. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a
given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence
better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the
object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were
chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment
yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the water
displacement method was proven to be more accurate.

Repeat measuring the mass of the object three (3) more times; ensuring that the balance is re zeroed
after each measurement. Tabulate data gathered. Procedure 2: Find the mass of the object given, as
done in procedure 1. Ensure that the object is dry when it is being placed on the balance, as this will
yield an inaccurate reading. Get a clean 1000milliter beaker. Fill the beaker to approximately half its
capacity. Note the exact volume of water placed into the beaker. When reading the volume of the
water, ensure that this is done at eye level, and that it is read at the bottom of the meniscus. After
noting the initial volume of water, place the object carefully into the water. DO NOT SPLASH. Note
the final volume of water in the beaker. Tabulate data gathered.

The Perception Of Blindness Versus Ability
The perception of blindness versus ability to see truths in King Lear Throughout history, noble kings
and powerful leaders have fallen from power due to their blindness towards people they trusted.
Novels, such as William Shakespeare s King Lear convey a similar message. Although blindness is
conceived as the lack of sight by many, metaphorically speaking, blindness is the inability to see and
interpret the truth due to one s deceptiveness and lies. In King Lear, Lear s blindness towards Goneril
and Regan, and his arrogance, results in his downfall. Similarly, Gloucester s blind eye towards
Edmund results in his downfall and ironically, his loss of eye sight. Shakespeare conveys, through the
life and dialogue of Lear and Gloucester, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lear says to Kent about Cordelia, I loved her most and thought to set my rest / On her kind nursery. /
Hence, and avoid my sight! / So be my grave my peace as here I give / Her father s heart from her

General s and Lear curses Cordelia and tells her that he wishes to never see her again. Lear blinded
does not see what Regan and Goneril are planning and more importantly what his blindness will lead
him in too.
Though Lear is blind, he realizes later what he has done after his downfall. When Regan and Goneril
betray Lear, Lear goes mad and loses his sanity as he realizes his mistake. The fool tells Lear, Fathers
that wear rags / Do make their children blind. / But fathers that bear bags / Shall see their children
kind (II.iv.40 43). The fool tells Lear that Lear gave too much worldly things to Regan and Goneril,
such as land, and the daughters got too greedy and now took everything from Lear and left him with
nothing, but if Lear gave more of his true love and care to his daughters, they would have cared about
him and would not be this greedy. Lear trusted his daughters to make the right choices, but Regan and
Goneril used that trust against Lear as Lear says, I remember thine eyes well enough. Dost thou squiny

Julius Caesar As A Source Criticism
In this essay I will be describing, discussing and evaluating my chosen source. I will be using the
references that I have chosen, in order to present a clear and concise source criticism, coming to a well
rounded conclusion at the end.
The source is taken from the book Commentarii de Bello Gallico , which was written and edited by
Aulus Hiritus and Julius Caesar and was published around 58 49 BC, sometime after Julius Caesars
death. It is a secondary source which describes Julius Caesar s first hand account of the nine year
period that he spent fighting the Celtic and Germanic people in Gaul. The book was written in order to
inform the Roman people of the Gallic Wars from a source that they trusted, however it is biased
meaning that Caesar may have had particular motives for writing it thus meaning that the content may
also be influenced by Caesars motives. Caesars chronology of Commentarii de Bello Gallico allows
for him to react to the shifts in Rome s political climate (Timothy, R. Kimbrough, 2014, p. 3), which
means that the source I have chosen to critique was written to suit Caesars immediate needs (G.
Woolf, 2011, p.54), suggesting that the portrayal of joy that Caesar has been bestowed with could be
exaggerated in order to fit the political climate in Rome, allowing him to maintain his position within
the Senate and with the Roman population. The book contains information on the Gallic Wars and its
purpose is to persuade the Roman people that Caesars appointment in Gaul and his actions during the
Wars occurred in order to benefit the Roman state and the Roman people, regardless of the legality
with which they were brought about (Timothy. R. Kimbrough, 2014, p.8).
However, the source also suggests that Caesar was popular and was a worthy figure head for the
Roman Empire because he was prepared to face the unknown (H. Schadee, 2008, p.170), presenting
the his readers that he was then welcomed by the towns and their people connotes that he was
expressing his influence and power outside of Rome. The meaning of this source is that Caesar is
attempting to exert his reputation and power over the Senate by recounting his actions during the Wars
as for the benefit of the Roman empire, to the

Heart Of Darkness And African American Women Essay
In his written novel Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad uses the motif of unrestrained lusts, to
contribute to the theme of fascination versus repulsion. Although the colonialist society constructed
Africans to be looked upon as brutes and be despised, especially African women given that women
were devalued due to sexism, few of the European male characters couldn t help but reveal the awe
that they developed towards the natives. This frequent occurrence of lust does not only reflect the
admiration which few Europeans have towards the native women, despite their socially established
inferiority, but it also serves to demonstrate that in the eyes of some, such as Marlow for instance,
African women were just as human, and could possess attractive attributes the same way white
women could.. However, all of the characters who develop awe towards the natives were well aware
that it is beyond unacceptable to find native women attractive, yet alone humanize them.
Consequently, these same men unconsciously held some sort of repulsion to a certain degree, to make

European women were the only women that were to be desired in the imperial world. Heart of
Darkness takes place in the era which African women were considered uncivilized, unvaluable, and
undesirable. However, Marlow surprisingly finds more beauty in the natives. For example, in part 3,
Marlow describes Kurtz s intended in comparison to the native woman and states, I noticed she was
not very young I mean not girlish . This does not only go against every ideal that Marlow is bound to
have in the society he is living in, but it also challenges the imperialist beliefs. By Marlow suggesting
that he finds more beauty towards the African woman, than the caucasian woman, this reveals the true
admiration which he has for the

Art After The Great War
Art after The Great War The Great War was the first of its kind. Never before had combat been
conducted on such a global scale. The technological advancements resulting from the onset of
Industrialism allowed weapons and supplies to be mass produced. When the dust finally settled, the
death toll eclipsed 16 million, and another 20 million were wounded. Dada and Surrealism originated
as artistic reactions to the colossal destruction experienced during World War I. Dada radical and poet,
Tristan Tzara, confessed, the beginnings of Dada were not the beginnings of art, but of disgust (MoMa
Dada). Largely, this was disgust to the atrocities and suffering of war. However, it was also disgust

Marcel Duchamp is widely considered one of the most influential Dada artists. His works frequently
included the use of ready mades. Ready mades are pre fabricated items that the artist personally deems
as art. For example, a chair, or table could potentially be a ready made. One of Duchamp s most
famous ready mades is called Fountain. This piece is a previously used urinal, with the name R. Mutt
1917 written in black on the side. The installation is a classic example of Dada art, in that it does not
make sense. It is art because it is anti art. There is no logic, and there is no reason behind it. It is art
because the artist decided it was art. It simply exists. Francis Picabia is another prominent Dada artist.
In 1919, he created a diagram of how a supposed Dada alarm clock works. The dada movement aimed
to shake the world of modern art up. Art was considered boring and mundane. Dada was a noisy alarm
that woke up modern art from merely aesthetic slumber (Elderfield). Picabia s piece was supposed to
represent how it changed. The flow of current was actually the flow of change of modern art. While
Dada was intended to be a rebellious and purposeful response to conventional and traditional thinking
in society, its successor Surrealism resulted from the desire to explore the unconscious mind. Also, the
movement aimed to upset the conventions of reality. Surrealism started as a literary movement that
utilized a technique called automatism.

According to Inderjeet Dokal there are currently 13 known variations of genes that cause FA and they
are as follows: FANCA, FANCB, FANCC, FANCD1, FANCD2, FANCE, FANCF, FANCG, FANCI,
FANCJ, FANCL, FANCM, and FANCN (Dokal, 2008). Dokal and many other doctors agree that FA is
a very penetrant genetic disorder. That is, all of these subtypes of the FA gene can cause many of the
different types of cancer and bone marrow deficiencies that are associated with FA. For example, in
the list given by Dokal, the subtype FANCA is known to express as a gene that controls certain aspects
of protein coding. This one genetic subtype causes breakdowns in the various checkpoints throughout

The expressivity and penetrance of FA are largely based on the number and type of subtypes present.
It was found that a large amount of the subtypes of FA actually interact with each other in one form or
another to cause reactions and abnormalities in many of the pathways that are critical to the replication
and regulation of DNA in each of the cells pathways. Interestingly enough, if just one of the subtypes
is not present, then the expression of the interference is not as extreme as it could be if all of the
subtypes needed for a category were present.
With that said, it s important to understand what happens during a normal cycle of DNA replication.
This will provide a greater understanding of the effects of FA on the DNA replication process. By
understanding the processes and events of replication you can see how those subtypes of FA like
FANCL can be so detrimental to the affected individuals cells. The process of replication in regards to
DNA is a complicated set of processes in which thousands of base pairs are accurately copied and
translated to produce new strands of DNA. It s important to note that DNA replication is a semi
conservative process, this means that every time a new DNA molecule is formed, an old strand is
incorporated along with the new strand. Each cycle recycles at least one of the old strands. The
process of DNA replication begins at specific sites called the origin of replication. This

was a need for leaders at all levels and that can be achieved by studying leadership. After hearing that
I understood there was a problem, I wanted to be the adequate leader the world needed and I first
needed to gain a good understand the information learned in class. Throughout this semester I have
learned a lot about myself, group interactions, and my leadership identity, which all come together to
enhance my understanding and appreciation of leadership itself.
In order to lead others, you first need an understanding of yourself, your values, and your beliefs. In
How to Live With Purpose, Identify Your Values and Improve Your Leadership, Anne Loehr, said that
values are what is important to us and what gives us purpose. These reflect who we are in everything
we do. By aligning our values, we have more energy and are fulfilled as opposed to the demotivated
and unauthentic characteristics of our actions that are not aligned with our values. In order to put
values into action, one must review their values prior to making a decision and decide if they outcome
of their decision aligns with their values. Additionally, one should remind themselves of their values to

The Crucible Fire Analysis
The first section is seen through Benjamin s eyes takes place on April 7, 1928, Saturday before Easter
Sunday. It was Benjy s thirty third birthday. However, Benjy has mental ill; he has the mind of a child
and does not understand the connection of things around him. He remembers nothing except the past
with his sister, Caddy. Throughout Benjamin section, fire is mentioned more than forty times. Benjy is
fascinated by the fire: What is fire to Benjy? It is something he can see as more immediate and
concrete than anything with perhaps the exception of Caddy (Martin 2). Benjamin seems to live
mostly in the past before Caddy moved out of the house. Sometimes, Benjy gets upset and panic while
living in the memory or when Luster, who is watching him, teases him. ... Show more content on

I hushed (Willams 56). Fire reminds Benjy of his sister Caddy; it is can calm him down just like
Caddy. Caddy clearly loves Benjy and treats him with great kindness; in return, he idolizes and adores
Caddy. Since his own mother is constantly sick and frequently neglects her children, Caddy is a
mother to Benjamin; she knows exactly how to relax and calm Benjy while their mother would rather
just let Benjy cry. Caddy also takes responsibility for Benjy with their father: Are you going to take
good care of Maury. Yes. Caddy said (66). Because Caddy is considerable the only one in the family
cares about Benjy, he becomes too attached to Caddy. He does not want Caddy to ever leave him.
After Caddy gets married and moves away from home, he keeps waiting for Caddy to be back at the

Hills Like White Elephants, By Ernest Hemmingway
In the story Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemmingway allows a superficial plot to symbolically
display a conflict between choice of destination as a couple s discussion between train rides. The
layers of description and dialog manipulate a small moment of time and demonstrate that a human
choice can range while perspective shifts the understood potential of the landscape. By crafting an
intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a
sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. The story begins
by introducing the side of the valley with no shade and no trees, a forty minute wait time, and the
couple in Spain. The two are described at first as an American and a ... Show more content on

I don t want anyone else. And I know it s perfectly simple. The argument that he knows best gets shut
down with her asking him to stop, but he continues and says that he has no care for the child. He
carries the two bags as if anything more would be too much and looks out for a train that hasn t
arrived yet. When asked if she felt better, the girl replies and states that nothing is wrong with her; she
feels fine because pregnancy isn t some problem that needs an abortion to remedy it. Through the
numerous details, Hemmingway creates a short story that reflects the opinions of two very different
opinions. In one case, change is something that is desired, yet in the same relationship, change can be
too consequential to readily accept. The differing nature scenes and the descriptions of characters
created a duality while the setting facilitated symbolism. Overall, the implementation of many factors
and devices created a detailed piece of literature that could explore the different mindsets of the

Early Twentieth-Century Immigration Effects
Effects of Immigration in the twentieth century
I. Moehling, Carolyn, and Anne Morrison Piehl. IMMIGRATION, CRIME, AND INCARCERATION
IN EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY AMERICA*. Demography, 1 Nov. 2009. Web. .
A. The article is really focusing on whether immigrants affected the crime rate. The standalone
theories in the start of the article suggest they did increase the crime rate, but with no hard proof. As
the article develops deeper, facts and biased opinion come through and display that the immigrants did
not affect the crime rate in the early twentieth century.
B. I learned that immigration did not directly affect the crime rate in the early twentieth century. It was
assumed that they did because the immigrants moved into high traffic, high ... Show more content on

I learned that employers would hire native born workers over immigrants workers, except none of
them actually apply for the job. They are ashamed of the job, because the low level job has a status
about it and is called an immigrant job. This taking away the argument that natives can t get entry
level jobs due to immigrants in high populated areas. So, the Natives are just unwilling to do the entry
level jobs, because of status and low wages. The weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great
way to get easy level experience. The strong point of this article, is when it talks about employers
feeling immigrants are best suited or most appropriate for entry level jobs, this being said, the
employers have a stronger desire to hire the immigrants over the natives. The weak point is the fact
that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience, though it will help the progress of the
career journey, it did not correlate well enough to the main point of the argument.
The effects of immigrations to the urban culture of America had numerous outcomes, whether
immigrants effected the crime rates, whether they reduced support for social policies such as welfare,
and whether immigrants affected the career path of native born population. The articles proved that
immigrants have little to no effect on crime rates. They proved that they don t create a loss of public
support for social policies. They also proved, that immigrants don t directly affect the career

Dreams in Invisible Man Essay example
There are many types of dreams and many interpretations of those dreams. Dreams of power... of
glory... of the past and the present... but none are as vivid as those that are found in Ralph Ellison s
novel, Invisible Man.
The dreams start occurring in the very beginning of Invisible Man. In the infamous Reefer Dream , IM
talks about a dream he had after he used narcotics. In this bizarre dream, IM hears a speech on the
blackness of black , is assaulted by the son of a former slave, and is run over by a speeding machine.
All of this occurs while listening to What Did I Do To Be So Black and Blue? (pgs 9 12). This is one
of the most significant dreams in the book.
In another important dream, IM s deceased grandfather gives ... Show more content on

Then he dreamed of a hill, that no matter how fast he climbed, it seemed farther away, until finally he
reaches the top. On top of the hill is a white house. Trueblood went in the house, and there is a room
that is totally white. Inside the room is a white girl who wants Trueblood to snuggle up with her. But
he just pushes her on to the bed and, the woman just seems to sink outta sight, that there bed was so
soft.... Then swoosh! All of a sudden, a flock of little white geese fly out of the bed(Ellison 55 58).
Soon after, Trueblood wakes up and is going to tell his wife about the dream, but when he wakes up,
he is on top of his daughter. This is important because this dream eventually gets IM kicked out of
college. The reason for IM s expulsion is because Norton had a heart attack due to the shock of
hearing this dream.
Dr. Bledsoe is a target of IM s rage. IM often dreams of publicly humiliating Bledsoe by forcing him
to eat chitterlings. The reason IM feels hatred towards Bledsoe is because IM feels Bledsoe is fully
responsible for IM moving to Harlem. He also feels like he has been stabbed in the back by Bledsoe,
because Bledsoe wrote letters of recommendation that were really letters of degradation. These are the
reasons that IM often dreams of revenge.
IM s grandfather is a constant figure in most of IM s dreams. In a dream after IM joins the
Brotherhood, his grandfather tells him that, You start up Saul, and end up Paul

Reflection About Moving To University
Walking in to University on the first day was intimidating as well as exciting. Surrounded by big tall
buildings and thousands of fellow students. The University of Edinburgh was not what I expected.
From being nervous to talk to someone new, to now being able to talk to anyone in my year. I will
reflect on my experiences from the past semester and how I thought about things such as dress code,
attitudes. Challenges I faced, successes I accomplished and the future ahead.
I expected university to be people smartly dressed, have a hard working mentality and have an
enthusiastic passion to learn. There are very few people I have seen make that true. As I come in to
university I see people in casual jeans, shirts and even joggers. Even though in the article from (Smith,
2016), shows that by coming dressed smarter for work improves results and productivity, I am not
sure why my fellow students are not keen about their learning as much as me.
In lectures, tutorials and topic seminars, I see people constantly using social media, playing games and
chatting amongst each other rather than concentrating and focusing on the lecturer and understanding
the material being taught. When it comes to passion to learn, people talk about not going to lectures,
tutorials and sometimes missing assigned online material which will benefit them. This attitude of
learning and dressing smart may just be the type of family and upbringing I have been brought up
with, but I did not expect such low levels of discipline in such a highly respected university. This
really surprised me and has changed the way I look at university.
Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks have
gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams start.
Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme representative
as well as my economics results.
My main challenges these past 12 weeks were to adapt to a different style of learning and having to
make time at home to also study and revise while balancing this with my job and helping run the
family business. Coming in to university every week thinking its only week 3, week 4 and now its

  • 2. Bill Cosby s Accusers Case Following recent reports on the Bill Cosby rape accusations case which state that the famous comedian obtained drugs known as Quaaludes in the intention to drug young women and have sex with them, some reports suggest that Cosby s accusers are now afraid that the actor will try to make a run for it. According to New York Times, Cosby testified in 2005 that he obtained Quaaludes which are central nervous system depressants. He then admitted that he used the drugs in the intention to make women have sexual relations with him. There are currently 36 accusations against Cosby, and most of the women claim that they took a pill from him, whether to relax or feel better, and some claim that the actor had slipped drugs into their drinks. During a four days time in 2005 and 2006, Cosby was taken to the stand, where he answered questions about the Andrea Constand sexual molestation. According to Cosby, the sexual encounter was consensual because Constand did not look angry and because she never said anything that might have hinted her disaproval. Cosby stated that he had romantic feelings towards Constand the minute he saw her at Temple, where he served on the board of trustees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The, An American Classical Scholar In the 20th century Milman Parry, an American classical scholar, began to draw on the work of the Analysts and Unitarians to establish a hypothesis of an oral Homeric tradition which would prove to be revolutionary. By observing South Slavic oral poetry first hand, he was able to prove that the formulaic structure of Homeric epic was characteristic of oral composition. Due to the pressure of composition in performance, as would have been the norm, he also demonstrated that repeated words or phrases would have been fundamental in the composition of oral epic poetry. Whether these took the form of noun epithet formulas, larger formulaic phrases or entire scenes, the mnemonic power which they created served to make epic poetry entirely possible. Parry defined these formulas as an expression regularly used, under the same metrical conditions, to express an essential idea . Following from Lord s assessment of the first 15 lines of the Iliad, he estimated that up to 90% of the total poem consisted of formulas or contained formulaic elements. While studying those formulas comprising of a noun and fixed epithet, Parry called attention to the fact that they almost always appeared directly after the mid verse caesura or after the caesura in the fourth foot and thus conveniently fell into the cola of the hexameter. Now the poet had a vast library of stock phrases at their disposal which they could employ whenever the metre required. Such phrases include ( swift footed Achilles ) and ... The American Civil War helped to save the nation by rejoining Union Confederate and as result of the Emancipation Proclamation, most African American slaves were declared freed men. However, during the American Reconstruction, the lack of political unity was still very apparent as the South saw Reconstruction as being defeated humiliatingly and thus sought vengeance through the slaves it had lose. Although many slaves did receive their freedom, Reconstruction caused an increase in the white supremacy groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and laws such black codes/ Jim Crow laws/ sharecropping, which limited the rights freed slaves had. The main success of the Bureau lies in the establishment of schools. It spent over five million dollars for the creation of schools; by 1870, there were over 1000 schools in the south. It helped to found some historically black colleges and universities such as Howard University. In addition to school, it also helped with the funding of churches. Unfortunately, by 1971, it had lost most of its funding and consequently, its staff members. It failed to carry out any long term protection for freed slaves and did not produce any real measure of equality in the South. One opponent of the Bureau was President Andrew Johnson. He returned confiscated property to white Confederates, pardoned hundreds of former Confederate officers, soldiers and government officials, and tried to limit the amount of land the Bureau could sell by taking the land the Union had confiscated and gave to the Bureau and giving it to previous white landowners. When Congress first passed a bill in February, 1866, to extend the Bureau s existence and to give it new legal powers to sell land, Johnson vetoed the proposed legislation and argued that it interfered with states rights, gave preference to one group of people over another and would be financially stressful on the government because of its extended funding. The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives. Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning. Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing instruction. Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding and make informed decisions about instruction. After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I have gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I need to first assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is important to learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states, in relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a variety of areas. Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do. The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding ... • 9. Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the unknown and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy then go to something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive to dead, which could be a supernatural element. Also because change will create fear for the reader. Here s a quote that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game changed. (Lalah Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it will kick in that it s not real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts for example. We read the story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows how a character may have been doing something then suddenly here s something then or scared or startled. Another example would be possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was possessed. During the movie it says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps (William the exorcist ). Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a different type of fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens. Something goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing could happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared. Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is There a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp, dampening dusk the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room table and the father appeared covertly out the window (Oates pg69). Being unsure of what a strangers doing at your house makes you nervous and fearful he will do something to your family. There is then dreams. Have you ever had a bad dream? Waking up in the middle of the night when you re young. Even getting a dream catcher because you think it ll help stop bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The World Trade Center Of The United States On September 11th, 2001, terrorism reached American soil; attacks were specifically made on Lower Manhattan, causing the destruction of every World Trade Center associated building. The attack to this day has still instilled fear of terrorism in our society, and is an event New Yorkers will never forget. Dating back to July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed in the United States, declaring the thirteen colonies free from Great Britain. It is no coincidence that the new 1 WTC, previously known as the Freedom Tower, reaches its maximum height of 1,776 feet. The name Freedom Tower was originally used to symbolize America as a nation to rise above the attacks on the original towers. Architectures strategically planned out its symbolic height to match up with its specific chosen name of the building. However, the owners decided to change the building name back to One World Trade Center due to the fact that the building was going to be used as an office building and not for marketing. Nonetheless, many people still refer to 1 WTC as the Freedom Tower. Fast forward ten years later from the attack, on September 11th, 2011, the 9/11 Memorial officially opened for public use. • 18. Captain James Macnamar Trial At The Old Bailey On... In MacNamara (1803), Captain James MacNamara is brought to trial at the Old Bailey on manslaughter charges stemming from a duel in which MacNamara killed his adversary, Colonel Robert Montgomery. Interestingly, an examination of the trial proceedings demonstrates that the defence focused on the defendant s honourability. Rather than focus on the defendant s criminal actions, the defence sought to counter the prosecution by highlighting the defendant s actions in relation to another code, the English code of honour. In spite of a strong prosecution, the jury s verdict of not guilty in MacNamara is reflective of the vast majority of English criminal trials involving duelists being ruled in favour of the defendants, demonstrating the subversion of English criminal law by the code of honour in the Georgian period (1714 1830). MacNamara (1803) On 6 April 1803, Captain James MacNamara and Colonel Robert Montgomery travelled on horseback through Hyde Park with their separate entourages and Newfoundland dogs. The dogs, who had run ahead of their masters, attacked one another. Arriving at the scene of the canine altercation, Montgomery confronted MacNamara, demanding that the latter restrain his dog. Sensing a challenge, MacNamara asserted his intention to stand by his dog, accusing Montgomery of arrogance and disrespect. With neither prepared to concede, both parties agreed to meet later that day atop Primrose hill in a pistol duel. In the duel, MacNamara fatally wounded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experimentation was the method and mathematics the language of a powerful coherent body of knowledge called classical physics. For a few years before and after the turn of the century, the world was taking a breather from war and rebellion. The monumental achievements of science, technology, and industry ... As the element polonium, identified by Polish born Marie Curie in 1898, emits radiation it changes spontaneously into lead. This discovery shattered the belief inherited from the Greeks that the elements are immutable and their atoms indestructible. What causes atoms to decay? What are they made of? What forces are at work inside them? Such questions were new to physics, and were to remain at its cutting edge throughout the twentieth century. The answers would affect our lives in ways no one could imagine in the year of 1900. The twentieth century began with a flurry of innovations such as the airplane, the mass produced automobile, and transatlantic radio communication. They transformed the world, but the changes sweeping over physics at the same time were far more radical. Those brought about not just different lifestyles, but new ways of thinking. Modern physics grew out of classical physics and rest of three pillars: the quantum theory, which describes atoms and their nuclei, Special Relativity, which deals with the relationship between space and time and General Relativity, which explains gravity. The latter two were the sole creations of Albert Einstein and even the former received a crucial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Iran Between Iran And Pakistan Essay Iran s nuclear program is very debatable and has been even more debatable ever since they started enriching their uranium that can be possibly become a nuclear weapon. This gives the west and Israel a reason to be more worried about the issue. However in all of this there is an admission lately because Iran and the P 5 +1 have reach a nuclear deal in order to loosen the harsh sanctions they have received resulting in billions of dollars back to the Iranians in return for shutting down the program for half a year. However if this politeness and skill with people fails then it is time for crime prevention method to go into play here and possible military action. There are other nations that have nuclear weapons like India and Pakistan without a permission slip. So all in all it seems to be unfair that Iran is being discriminated in all of this but there are clear differences between Iran and Pakistan or even India. Now some political scientists believe that Iran independent power is being violated if they have to sign a permission slip to make legal their nuclear program according the IAEA. This would have been a good argument if Iran didn t accept the deal. But Iran did and they agree to the UN that when the parts deal demands the Iranians to reduce their purity on their uranium to a lower percentage where it is suited for nuclear power only to prevent a nuclear armed Iran. An acid classifies a wide range of materials including Sulphuric acid and bases Sodium Hydroxide. When manufacturing soaps they use Sodium Hydroxide, and detergents use Sulphuric Acid. But these two can be very poisonous, and there are many symptoms that may happen, some even severe. The title shows how much people may be using dangerous things without having the knowledge that they can harm them. Acid and bases can be found in our everyday lives. An acid is a compound that usually has a sour taste, containing hydrogen that can be replaced by a metal to form salt. Bases taste bitter and feel slippery, their water solution conducts and electric currents. When acids and bases are put together they make salt and water. The Arrhenius theory states that acids are substances which produce hydrogen ions in a solution and bases are substances in which produce hydroxide ions in a solution. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the water displacement method was proven to be more accurate. INTRODUCTION ... The Perception Of Blindness Versus Ability The perception of blindness versus ability to see truths in King Lear Throughout history, noble kings and powerful leaders have fallen from power due to their blindness towards people they trusted. Novels, such as William Shakespeare s King Lear convey a similar message. Cordelia s reply towards Lear is honest, but less persuasive compared to Regan s or General s and Lear curses Cordelia and tells her that he wishes to never see her again. • 29. Julius Caesar As A Source Criticism In this essay I will be describing, discussing and evaluating my chosen source. I will be using the references that I have chosen, in order to present a clear and concise source criticism, coming to a well rounded conclusion at the end. The source is taken from the book Commentarii de Bello Gallico , which was written and edited by Aulus Hiritus and Julius Caesar and was published around 58 49 BC, sometime after Julius Caesars death. It is a secondary source which describes Julius Caesar s first hand account of the nine year period that he spent fighting the Celtic and Germanic people in Gaul. The book was written in order to inform the Roman people of the Gallic Wars from a source that they trusted, however it is biased meaning that Caesar may have had particular motives for writing it thus meaning that the content may also be influenced by Caesars motives. Caesars chronology of Commentarii de Bello Gallico allows for him to react to the shifts in Rome s political climate (Timothy, R. Kimbrough, 2014, p. 3), which means that the source I have chosen to critique was written to suit Caesars immediate needs (G. Woolf, 2011, p.54), suggesting that the portrayal of joy that Caesar has been bestowed with could be exaggerated in order to fit the political climate in Rome, allowing him to maintain his position within the Senate and with the Roman population. The book contains information on the Gallic Wars and its purpose is to persuade the Roman people that Caesars appointment in Gaul and his actions during the Wars occurred in order to benefit the Roman state and the Roman people, regardless of the legality with which they were brought about (Timothy. R. Kimbrough, 2014, p.8). However, the source also suggests that Caesar was popular and was a worthy figure head for the Roman Empire because he was prepared to face the unknown (H. Schadee, 2008, p.170), presenting the his readers that he was then welcomed by the towns and their people connotes that he was expressing his influence and power outside of Rome. The meaning of this source is that Caesar is attempting to exert his reputation and power over the Senate by recounting his actions during the Wars as for the benefit of the Roman empire, to the ... Heart Of Darkness And African American Women Essay In his written novel Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad uses the motif of unrestrained lusts, to contribute to the theme of fascination versus repulsion. Although the colonialist society constructed Africans to be looked upon as brutes and be despised, especially African women given that women were devalued due to sexism, few of the European male characters couldn t help but reveal the awe that they developed towards the natives. This frequent occurrence of lust does not only reflect the admiration which few Europeans have towards the native women, despite their socially established inferiority, but it also serves to demonstrate that in the eyes of some, such as Marlow for instance, African women were just as human, and could possess attractive attributes the same way white women could.. The expressivity and penetrance of FA are largely based on the number and type of subtypes present. It was found that a large amount of the subtypes of FA actually interact with each other in one form or another to cause reactions and abnormalities in many of the pathways that are critical to the replication and regulation of DNA in each of the cells pathways. Interestingly enough, if just one of the subtypes is not present, then the expression of the interference is not as extreme as it could be if all of the subtypes needed for a category were present. With that said, it s important to understand what happens during a normal cycle of DNA replication. This will provide a greater understanding of the effects of FA on the DNA replication process. By understanding the processes and events of replication you can see how those subtypes of FA like FANCL can be so detrimental to the affected individuals cells. The process of replication in regards to DNA is a complicated set of processes in which thousands of base pairs are accurately copied and translated to produce new strands of DNA. • 38. The Leader s Companion By Gardner It was Thursday, August 25, at eight in the morning when I walked into my second leadership class ever. The first class was just reviewing the syllabus so to me this was the real first class . We discussed The Leader s Companion by Gardner and how there is currently a cry for leadership. I heard that there was a need for leaders at all levels and that can be achieved by studying leadership. After hearing that I understood there was a problem, I wanted to be the adequate leader the world needed and I first needed to gain a good understand the information learned in class. Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about myself, group interactions, and my leadership identity, which all come together to enhance my understanding and appreciation of leadership itself. In order to lead others, you first need an understanding of yourself, your values, and your beliefs. In How to Live With Purpose, Identify Your Values and Improve Your Leadership, Anne Loehr, said that values are what is important to us and what gives us purpose. These reflect who we are in everything we do. By aligning our values, we have more energy and are fulfilled as opposed to the demotivated and unauthentic characteristics of our actions that are not aligned with our values. In order to put values into action, one must review their values prior to making a decision and decide if they outcome of their decision aligns with their values. Additionally, one should remind themselves of their values to ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hills Like White Elephants, By Ernest Hemmingway In the story Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemmingway allows a superficial plot to symbolically display a conflict between choice of destination as a couple s discussion between train rides. The layers of description and dialog manipulate a small moment of time and demonstrate that a human choice can range while perspective shifts the understood potential of the landscape. By crafting an intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. The story begins by introducing the side of the valley with no shade and no trees, a forty minute wait time, and the couple in Spain. The two are described at first as an American and a ... When asked if she felt better, the girl replies and states that nothing is wrong with her; she feels fine because pregnancy isn t some problem that needs an abortion to remedy it. Through the numerous details, Hemmingway creates a short story that reflects the opinions of two very different opinions. In one case, change is something that is desired, yet in the same relationship, change can be too consequential to readily accept. The differing nature scenes and the descriptions of characters created a duality while the setting facilitated symbolism. IMMIGRATION, CRIME, AND INCARCERATION IN EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY AMERICA*. Demography, 1 Nov. 2009. Web. . A. The article is really focusing on whether immigrants affected the crime rate. The standalone theories in the start of the article suggest they did increase the crime rate, but with no hard proof. As the article develops deeper, facts and biased opinion come through and display that the immigrants did not affect the crime rate in the early twentieth century. B. I learned that immigration did not directly affect the crime rate in the early twentieth century. It was assumed that they did because the immigrants moved into high traffic, high ... They are ashamed of the job, because the low level job has a status about it and is called an immigrant job. This taking away the argument that natives can t get entry level jobs due to immigrants in high populated areas. So, the Natives are just unwilling to do the entry level jobs, because of status and low wages. The weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience. The strong point of this article, is when it talks about employers feeling immigrants are best suited or most appropriate for entry level jobs, this being said, the employers have a stronger desire to hire the immigrants over the natives. The weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience, though it will help the progress of the career journey, it did not correlate well enough to the main point of the argument. The effects of immigrations to the urban culture of America had numerous outcomes, whether immigrants effected the crime rates, whether they reduced support for social policies such as welfare, and whether immigrants affected the career path of native born population. • 43. Dreams in Invisible Man Essay example There are many types of dreams and many interpretations of those dreams. Dreams of power... of glory... of the past and the present... but none are as vivid as those that are found in Ralph Ellison s novel, Invisible Man. The dreams start occurring in the very beginning of Invisible Man. In the infamous Reefer Dream , IM talks about a dream he had after he used narcotics. In this bizarre dream, IM hears a speech on the blackness of black , is assaulted by the son of a former slave, and is run over by a speeding machine. All of this occurs while listening to What Did I Do To Be So Black and Blue? (pgs 9 12). This is one of the most significant dreams in the book. But he just pushes her on to the bed and, the woman just seems to sink outta sight, that there bed was so soft.... Then swoosh! All of a sudden, a flock of little white geese fly out of the bed(Ellison 55 58). Soon after, Trueblood wakes up and is going to tell his wife about the dream, but when he wakes up, he is on top of his daughter. This is important because this dream eventually gets IM kicked out of college. The reason for IM s expulsion is because Norton had a heart attack due to the shock of hearing this dream. Dr. Bledsoe is a target of IM s rage. IM often dreams of publicly humiliating Bledsoe by forcing him to eat chitterlings. The reason IM feels hatred towards Bledsoe is because IM feels Bledsoe is fully responsible for IM moving to Harlem. He also feels like he has been stabbed in the back by Bledsoe, because Bledsoe wrote letters of recommendation that were really letters of degradation. These are the reasons that IM often dreams of revenge. IM s grandfather is a constant figure in most of IM s dreams. • 44. Reflection About Moving To University Walking in to University on the first day was intimidating as well as exciting. Surrounded by big tall buildings and thousands of fellow students. The University of Edinburgh was not what I expected. From being nervous to talk to someone new, to now being able to talk to anyone in my year. I will reflect on my experiences from the past semester and how I thought about things such as dress code, attitudes. Challenges I faced, successes I accomplished and the future ahead. I expected university to be people smartly dressed, have a hard working mentality and have an enthusiastic passion to learn. There are very few people I have seen make that true. As I come in to university I see people in casual jeans, shirts and even joggers. Even though in the article from (Smith, 2016), shows that by coming dressed smarter for work improves results and productivity, I am not sure why my fellow students are not keen about their learning as much as me. In lectures, tutorials and topic seminars, I see people constantly using social media, playing games and chatting amongst each other rather than concentrating and focusing on the lecturer and understanding the material being taught. When it comes to passion to learn, people talk about not going to lectures, tutorials and sometimes missing assigned online material which will benefit them. This attitude of learning and dressing smart may just be the type of family and upbringing I have been brought up with, but I did not expect such low levels of discipline in such a highly respected university. This really surprised me and has changed the way I look at university. Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks have gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams start. Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme representative as well as my economics results. My main challenges these past 12 weeks were to adapt to a different style of learning and having to make time at home to also study and revise while balancing this with my job and helping run the family business. Coming in to university every week thinking its only week 3, week 4 and now its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
