In the broadest sense, marriages have been divided into two general categories; arranged marriages
and love marriages. As the name implies, an arranged marriage is defined as a marriage where the
bride and groom are exclusively selected by a third party (usually their parents), while in a love
marriage, people choose their marital partners based on their feelings or attraction for one another. In
America and Western Europe, marriages based on love, have dominated their cultures for a long time

found certain characters or events to be annoying.

At a young age of three she was boiling water and making hot dogs. What you can infer is that she is
mature for her age. While she was in the hospital one of the nurses tried to comfort her. One of them
squeezed my hand and told I was going to be okay I know. I said, But if I m not, that s okay too (17). I
found this of her to say that even if she weren t okay she would be okay to be very mature of her at a
young age.
I believe her parents are very interesting as well and at times can be irresponsible. For example when
her brother Brian fell off of the back of the couch and they did not take him to the hospital. There was

head is hard, I think the floor took more damage than he did (20). This is just one example of them

feel that Alice s change in attitude is Carroll s way of insinuating the ridiculousness or hypocrisy in

scene is very significant because it shows how the shift in Alice s character is set up. In order for Alice

The history of United States is drenched in the fight for equality in the society. From women to gay
rights but it is undeniable that the black civil rights was the bloodiest and most violent among them.
Two methods were used to bring message to the people: the violent or the non violent way. Most
activists and civil rights group like Martin Luther King Jr., NAACP (National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People) and CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) at that time chose for the
latter but one did not follow that lead: the infamous Black Panthers Party. Each method had its effect
on the history for the equality of African Americans. The majority of participants in the civil rights
movement chose the non violent way. Within this path, individuals and groups took different

Anti Opium Movement, Opium War and Their Causes The main theme of 19th century was the
imperialism expansion of western capitalistic industrial nations throughout the whole world. During
this process, the conflicts between occidental imperialism powers and oriental countries never
stopped. The First Opium War, well known as the Opium War, was the war that happened during
September, 1839 to Autumn, 1842, between China and Britain. The war was initiated by the conflicts
between China and Britain on the fact that some British merchants, who worked for the East India
Company, smuggled opium to China and ignored Chinese laws. The mania of opium smoking shocked
the Chinese government and triggered the anti opium movement. Lin Zexu, a Chinese official known
as Commissioner Lin, burned out the confiscated opium at Humen. During the war, China suffered
great loss and ended up with a disastrous fiasco. The result was extremely humiliating to China and
