How To Write Essays For Dummies
Writing an essay on the topic "How To Write Essays For Dummies" might initially seem
paradoxical. The irony lies in the challenge of simplifying a complex process for an audience that
may be unfamiliar with the intricacies of essay composition. The difficulty stems from the
delicate balance between providing comprehensive guidance and avoiding unnecessary
complexity.
Firstly, it requires breaking down the essay-writing process into digestible steps without
oversimplifying or neglecting essential components. Striking the right tone is crucial, as the
audience is assumed to be beginners. The challenge is to convey information in a manner that is
both accessible and informative, steering clear of jargon that might confuse rather than enlighten.
Secondly, addressing the diverse needs of potential readers adds another layer of complexity.
The term "dummies" implies a lack of prior knowledge, but individuals may possess varying
levels of familiarity with essay writing. Tailoring the content to cater to different learning curves
while maintaining a coherent narrative is indeed a formidable task.
Furthermore, ensuring that the essay is engaging and motivational is no small feat. It should
inspire confidence in the readers, encouraging them to embark on the essay-writing journey
rather than intimidating them with the perceived complexities of the task.

The Plessy Vs. Ferguson Case
Racism has been a part of our country since the early ages. Historically, racism and
equality have been central issues that have divided our country. Many actions
from the past such as the decision in the Plessy versus Ferguson case, and present
day actions like The Mississippi school system case have been the ongoing battle
in today s society. The struggle to achieve equality was made even more difficult
by the legislation that is now considered racist in the Plessy versus Ferguson case.
The Plessy versus Ferguson case started with an incident where an African
American passenger on a train, Homer Plessy, broke Louisiana law by refusing to sit
in a Jim Crow car, a separate cart on the train where African Americans had to sit.

Associate Justice John Marshall Harlan, the lone vote against the ruling, gave the
dissenting opinion of the court. Harlan insisted that the court had ignored the obvious
purpose of the Separate Car Act, which was, under the guise of giving equal
accommodation for whites and blacks, to compel the latter to keep to themselves
while traveling in railroad passenger coaches. Because it presupposed and was
universally understood to presuppose the inferiority of African Americans, the act
imposed a badge of servitude upon them in violation of the Thirteenth Amendment.
(Duignan). He also stated, The sure guaranty of the peace and security of each race is
the clear, distinct, unconditional recognition by our governments, national and state,
of every right that inheres in civil freedom, and of the equality before the law of all
citizens of the United States, without regard to race. State enactments regulating the
enjoyment of civil rights upon the basis of race, and cunningly devised to defeat
legitimate results of the war, under the pretense of recognizing equality of rights, can
have no other result than to render permanent peace impossible, and to keep alive a
conflict of races, the continuance of which must do harm to all concerned (Quotes
from Plessy v. Fergusun). Harlan further explained what the constitution says by
stating Our Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among
citizens. In
Shrek the Third and Princess Fiona
. Explain the looking glass theory and self concept as they pertain to Shrek, Donkey,
Princess Fiona, and Prince Farquar. Your answer needs to address the components of
self. In your answer, include how self concept affects the way that they communicate.
Remember that communication includes cognitive, listening and speaking processes.
According to the looking glass theory, we use others as a mirror to see ourselves and
we imagine what others think of us then include these imaginings in our self concept.

Events that are reframed which causes devaluation of self worth, that changes a
person s perspective. Shrek reflects reframing in the movie several times. In one
scene in a conversation with Donkey, Shrek describes how people runaway from
him when they see him which results in isolating himself. Another scene, when he
thought Princess Fiona did hat him because he was ugly. He was sad to think that
everyone used to justify him with his ugly face but none could feel his heart.
Shrek was always trying to hide himself away from the society and he was sick and
tired of the social life because society was unable to judge him in the right way. As a
result form the beginning the did not wanted any friends and lived all alone at the
jungle away from the society.
4. Explain need for affection from Donkey and Shrek s perspectives. The need for
affection is the fact that we all need to receive and give love, support, warmth, and
intimacy. In the perspective of the Donkey, it can be seen when he wanted to be
the friend of Shrek and in another scene the Donkey was cooping with the Dragon
as a result of his loneliness and need for affection. In Shrek s perspective, his need
for affection was oftten suppressed, but at the end his need for affection drives him
to tell princess Feona how he feels about her.

Essay about IOM Report
2010 IOM REPORT: IMPACT ON NURSING
Cheralee C. Seekatz
Grand Canyon University: Professional Dynamics
6/2/2014
Abstract
In 2010 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) generated a report making recommendations
that outline progressive planning for the future of nursing. The Institute has
responded to barriers and offers solutions to the rapidly changing healthcare model in
light of the affordable care act (The future of nursing: Leading change, advancing
health, 2011). This paper will consider the impact of the IOM on nursing education,
nursing practice and the nurse s role as a leader. It will examine, what I believe to be

The patient may become sicker and acquire hospital complications. It not only costs
the patient more money, but could in turn cost the hospital as well. That bed could
have been used for another patient in need of care.
Nurses Role as a Leader
Hand in hand with education progression and nurses being full partners, the IOM
fully expects that many more nurses will emerge as leaders. The report proposes that
leadership be embedded in nursing education to prepare nurses for this role. It
describes the importance of mentorship in helping nurses to achieve advancement,
leadership and partnership. Along with leadership roles a nursing residence or
preceptorship program would be prudent to better transition nurses all the way from
novice nurse into more multifaceted responsibilities and roles (The future of nursing:
leading change, advancing health 2011). What a culture change this would be from
nurses who are rumored to eat their young to nurses who mentor and guide those
around them. A culture of teamwork working towards a common goal would increase
nursing retention, satisfaction and in turn produce happy nurses who make happy
patients!
Meeting the Goals of the IOM
Many challenges lay in the way of implementing the goals of the IOM. While the
goals are necessary, they may be difficult to implement. The challenges are:
1. Achieving a higher education, may be difficult for many. A large percentage of

Symptoms And Treatment Of Type II Diabetes
A 60 year old woman with a 10 year history of Type II diabetes presents with
multiple complications including retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy and declining
renal function. She has not had the urge to eat as of recently she feels full after a
few bites. The incidence of nausea and feeling bloated occurs at least twice a day
and even after a glass of water she feels bloated. She also complains of fatigue and
not been able to keep up with daily chores. A radiographic gastric emptying study
shows a prolonged gastric emptying time.
What is the typical diagnosis and how would you ideally treat this patient. What is
the mechanism via which the medication acts? The typical diagnosis for this patient
is gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a disorder that most commonly affects people with
both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in which the stomach takes too long to empty its
contents (delayed gastric emptying) ( Gastroparesis, 2014, p. 1). Other causes are
gastric surgery with injury to the vagus nerve, medications such as narcotics and
some antidepressants, Parkinson s disease, and multiple sclerosis. This progressive
condition is caused by damage to the vagus nerve, which regulates the digestive
system. The cardinal symptoms include postprandial fullness (early satiety), nausea,
vomiting, and bloating (Camilleri, Bharucha, Farrugia, 2011, p. 5). Other symptoms
include gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), abdominal pain, and lack of appetite,
weight loss, and poor glucose control.
Similarities Between Machiavelli And Hobbes
Machiavelli on Human Nature
Niccolo Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbes were two modern political theorists who
presented new ideas about political organization in the 16th and 17th century. While
Machiavelli focused his written works on ideas related to effective governance,
Hobbes attempts to explain the necessity of establishing a ruler to maintain peace and
stability. Although Niccolo Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbesfocused on different
aspects of political theory, both thinkers addressed the concept of human nature in
their written works. Their ideas are reliant on the assumption that all humans have an
inherently bad nature. Although the two political theorists agree that humans are
inherently inclined to prioritize their self interests, ... Show more content on

Here, he suggests that humans have a tendency to take action whenever they think it
will result in a personal gain or help them get closer to achieving another self interest.
Both Machiavelli and Hobbes believe that humans tend to take actions that they
believe will benefit themselves in some way.
Although Machiavelli and Hobbes agree on the basic motivation of human nature,
their understandings of human nature conflict when considering the consistency of
these qualities in a variety of situations. Niccolo Machiavelli would argue that
humans consistently act out in selfish and immoral ways. In order to support this
idea, Machiavelli uses history to demonstrate patterns in human behavior, actions, and
motivations. For instance, in The Prince, Machiavelli uses the example of Cesare
Borgia and other historical rulers to show that human behavior is consistent and that
even virtuous leaders have had to take self interested actions to control their citizens.
To Machiavelli, all humans are born with this self interest.
On the other hand, in The Essential Leviathan, Hobbes suggests that human nature is
variable based on different situation. Although it may seem that Hobbes has an
entirely negative perception of human nature, the 17th century writer also argues that
humans may not have an inherently bad nature, but that it is
Romanticism In Romantic Poetry
Romantic Poetry Paper
As many of us know, the Romanticism period happen during the 1800 s hundreds and
finished in the mid 1850 s. This movement is an artistic enlightenment that happen
throughout Europe. The people who took an active big role during this movement is
John Keats, Percy Shelley, William Wordsworth and many more. Numerous of their
poteries talks about nature, beauty, love, death etc. However, the major poems that
really stood out to me from these three substantial poets is; She Dwelt Among the
Untrodden Ways by William Wordsworth that signifies the beauties of imagination
and death. Then, ON THE GRASSHOPPER AND CRICKET by John Keatswho
elaborates the happiness of nature. Finally, Mutability by Percy Shelley that
symbolises the bodies and spirits. Therefore, these poems are very meaningful and
may apply to your everyday life.
To begin with, She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways is about a young lady being
admired comparing her beauty to nature. William Wordsworth says She dwelt
among the untrodden ways Beside the springs of Dove, . Wordsworth is trying to
describe how gentle and innocent she is like nature is. Also Wordsworth adds A
violet by a mossy stone Half hidden from the eye! this quote I believe show people
tend to not notice her that much but in his eyes she is still very beautiful. Later on in
his poetry the young lady is identified as Lucy who may possibly be apart of his
imagination that soon dies in the end. Wordsworth states She
What Are The Pros And Cons Of The Internet
The Internet, a Good Invention or a Bad One At All?
The Internet has been developed for two decades. It provides a new platform for
goods and services to exchange among the world (Morozov, 2010). There is no
doubt that the Internet becomes one part of our daily life, especially for those
developed countries. People cannot live without it because of its wide usage.
However, the Internet causes some negative impacts to our life as well as to our
society. In order to discuss whether the Internet helps in developing a better life to
us, this essay will begin with examining the pros of the Internet on both the social
relationship and the development of the Internet. Then, it will consider its cons and
will conclude that the Internet is a modern trend to provide a better life to us as well
as our next generation.
As long as we mention modern communication, the Internet will occur to ... Show

Essay On The Birmingham Bombing
Since Sunday September 15, 1963, Birmingham received its nickname
Bombingham. Many people would think that a church, a place of God, would be
the last place to be blown to pieces. Four people lost their lives the day of the
bombing. The enemy didn t seem to care about the people inside but the color of their
skin. The Birmingham church bombing also brought influential people, major details
surrounding the crisis, a difference in society, and a change in history.
The Birmingham bombing consisted of more than criminals and victims. There were
influential people that had a major part in this time of history. The most influential
person was Martin Luther King Jr. After he learned about the bombing, he sent a
telegram to the governor of Alabama. In this telegram, Dr. King said The blood of
our little children are on your hands. Martin Luther King Jr. held a segregational
protest in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. King was arrested and put in jail and was told
not to protest. He wrote his famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The civil rights movement was made up of many tragic and inspiring tasks that made
our history that we know of today. The church bombing shocked the nation and led to
large protests that would help the race controversy start to decrease. The outrage over
the death of the little girls helped build an increased amount of support that would
help the struggle of segregation. Without the bombing, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
and the Voting Rights Actof 1965 would not have been as easy to get without the
tragedy of the church bombing. Our history was changed because a tragedy like the
bombing was the biggest opportunities to show America that a change needed to be
made. Crowds of people joined protest and were influenced by Martin Luther King
Jr. No one knows how our history would have been without the bombing, but the
passage that would lead the blacks to their rights, that every human should possess,

Marilyn Monroe Informative Speech
The year is 1962. The audience of Madison Square Garden is packed full of the
rich and famous. Among them sits the guest of honor in all his glory, President John
F. Kennedy. All eyes are tuned into the stage, among it stands a blond bombshell
crooning into a microphone. The words Happy Birthday Mr. President slip through
her lips in a light breathy voice. To her family she is Norma Jeane but to the world,
she is Marilyn Monroe(Thomson, 2016).
She was a sex symbol, a pinnacle for women, and an all around icon. Marilyn s
persona appealed to the masses as effortless. But contrary to those beliefs, her efforts
were thought through and calculated. During her childhood little Norma Jeane was
shy and plagued by low self esteem (Victor, 1999).... Show more content on

Marilyn didn t spend time with speech pathologists but instead with drama and
vocal coaches (Victor, 1999). These coaches helped her harness and control her
stutter and instead take her struggle and turn it into something positive. In the
beginning of her career, Marilyn s voice was described as a tight squeak (Victor,
1999). Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we all know and
recognize as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of
the first half of her career, with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d
and t , was the result of tutoring from Lytess (Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her
to lower her tone and from that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy seductive timbre.
It is believed that this change in how she speaks, almost as if in character, is what
cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of modifying ones tone, proves to
be a successful method of therapy in the world of speech pathology Many of the
current therapies for teens and adults who stutter focus on helping them learn ways
to minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by speaking more slowly,
regulating their breathing, or gradually progressing from single syllable responses to
longer words and more complex sentences. Most of these therapies also help address
the anxiety a person who stutters may feel

The Roman Province Of Dacia
The Roman province of Dacia consisted of most of Romania from approximately
100 to 271 A.D. The Daco Roman was overran again and again by barbarian
conquerors. Many migrants traveled to Romania. In the 5th and 6th century two
major events happened. First in the 5th century, came the Huns and in the 6th
century they were followed by the Avars. The Huns were a nomadic tribe whose
origin is unknown but, most likely, they came from somewhere between the eastern
edge of the Altai Mountains and the Caspian Sea, roughly modern Kazakhstan
(Kelly, 45). The Avars were a confederation of heterogeneous (diverse or varied)
people consisting of Rouran, Hephthalites, and Turkic Oghuric races who migrated
to the region of the Pontic Grass Steppe (an area corresponding to modern day
Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan) from Central Asia after the fall of the Asiatic Rouran
Empire in 552 CE. After the Huns and Avars came the Slavs which were designates
an ethnic group of people who share a long term cultural continuity and who speak a
set of related languages known as the Slavic languages. After the Huns, Slavs and
Avars came, Romania the slowly settled down and a feudal order was born. Around
the 8 10th century, Eastern Orthodox Christianity was brought amongst the
Romanians by the mastery of the Bulgarian Empire. The Hungarian empire had
overruled Transylvania in or around the 11th century. By the time the 16th century
rolled around, the well known Romanian principalities of Walachia and

Tell Tale Heart is a great short horror story all about a butler who is mad about his

the butler completely insane it would haunt him in his sleep so he got a small light
and tried to fix it without having to kill the master. But eventually the butler got
caught and the master sat up and looked at the door with the butler there not moving

and knocked the poor old man out then pushed his bead on top of him and jumped

Virginia Essay
The name Virginia is the oldest designation for English claims in North America.
The name Virginia was proposed by Sir Walter Raleigh to Queen Elizabeth I. The
chief of the Indians of the area, the Sectoans, was called Wingina which could have
influenced the name. In 1585, Sir Walter Raleigh launched a colonization
expedition to Roanoke island that failed. But when Sir Francis Drake arrived in
1586 the colonists wanted to go home. The lack of supply ships made them
eventually abandon the colony with only one clue to where they went, a word
carved into a tree, Croatoan . The colony was chartered in 1606 by King James I for
the apparent purpose of spreading Christianity but it was to mine gold, silver and
copper. The charter pretty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jamestown Island was cut off from the mainland and provided little game, no fresh
drinking water, and very limited ground for farming. Captain Newport returned to
England twice, delivering the First Supply and the Second Supply missions during
1608, and leaving the Discovery for the use of the colonists. However, death from
disease and conflicts with the Natives Americans took a fearsome toll of the
colonists. Despite attempts at mining minerals, growing silk, and exporting the native
Virginia tobacco, no profitable exports had been identified, and it was unclear
whether the settlement would survive financially. On May 31, 1607, about 100 men
and boys left England for what is now Maine. Approximately three months later, the
group landed on a wooded peninsula where the Kennebec River meets the Atlantic
Ocean and began building Fort St. George. By the end of the year, due to limited
resources, half of the colonists returned to England. Late the next year, the remaining
45 sailed home, and the Plymouth company fell dormant. Following the abandonment
of the Plymouth company settlement in 1609 the London Company decided to
expand Virginia south of the 39th parallel and north up to the 34th parallel hopefully
reaching from sea to sea as the London Company said they would go all the way to
what is now California. This encouraged investors

Religion s Influence On Foreign Policy
Religion s impact on the relations between states is one of the least understood
security challenges of the twenty first century. Religion s role in international politics
also offers an intellectual challenge to academics of international relations and
religion and politics (Warner and Walker, 2011). 9/11 attacks on World Trade Center
and the Pentagon by Islamic extremists supported by Afghanistan, which was
governed by an Islamic regime increased the interest in religionin international
relations. In this essay, first the relationship between religion and international affairs
will be put into context. Following that, the failure of the main international relations
theories to acknowledge the key role of religion in foreign policywill be explained.
What I will I argue is that religion s influence on foreign policy can be seen if three
key areas are observed, which are: leaders beliefs, faith based organisations and
public opinion. Another area which is a country s religious identity won t be
explained separately because of the fact that it is closely linked to all of the above
mentioned areas.
Foreign policy is generally defined as the formal policies of a state which affect
various military, economic, humanitarian, social and cultural dimensions of its
relations with other states and non state actors (Warner and Walker, 2011). However
this definition excludes the element of religion, which cannot be ignored as an
attribute of individuals and communities, as an
The Duel Essay
In reviewing John Lukacs, The Duel, I noticed that the author has other intentions
in mind besides the facts. Lukacs gives a very precise account of the actualy events
during those eighty days but in my opinion he wants the reader to grab the bigger
concepts. One of these concepts is that Lukacs wants the reader to honestly consider
just how close the Allies came to losing the war. Another of these notions is the idea
that the main difference between Churchill and Hitler concerned nationalism versus
patriotism and a third idea is just how greatly history can be effected by the
courageous decisions of a few people.Lukacs makes strong mention of how close
Hitler came to victory.
Hitler got everything he wanted for so long, without even ... Show more content on

We can all understand this, especially when looking back at the horror of WWII.
Hitler abused the idea of nationalism and thet is why the author made sure not to
leave this footnote out of his book. Hitler got the german people to follow him under
this demented idea that Germany should be considered better than everybody else, and
yet it is astonishing that nobody seemed to noticed that Hitler was not even a
German. Lukacs wants the reader to raise these questions to themselves so they can
see how unique this entire situation was.
The idea that the entire course of history is changed by the decisions of a few
people is a very important notion in the book. The hesitance of Hitler in early July is
especially important and vital to the outcome of the war. Lukacs depicts the two men
differently then one would expect. In this evaluation, Hitler does not want to attack

He was not sure if England would go for this, and if they did not, he knew that the
time had come to force them to do so. He could not shake Churchill, no matter how

remained reluctant. The author effectively exhibits Hitler s hesitance. He makes the
evil man seem human saying that Hitler wanted to make a peace proposal on a great

The Letter Issued By Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Warren Buffet Assignment The letter issued by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is filled
with a lot of information detailing the information that happened in 2014 and years
prior. This letter comes on the 50 year anniversary and feature Warren Buffet and
Charlie Munger s thoughts on the past 50 years and what they expect over the next
50. The introductory section of the letter titled To the Shareholders of Berkshire
Hathaway Inc.: it outlines a general overview of the occurrences of the stock over
the past 50 years and how it has increased dramatically, and also what they believed
was the best way to show it has increased. Major Players The first Major section

I find this interesting because one would think that a loss of that magnitude in an
industry where they claim to be its core operation at Berkshire Hathaway would
seriously hurt the revenue and profits for the year. It s explained that because of
the many streams of earnings that that is why they would expect profits regardless.
The next section labeled Regulated, Capital Intensive Business has a very
interesting segment about Berkshire Hathaway Energy that personally helped me
learn something new. It s mentioned that one of the factors that allow BHE to be
able to service its debt under all circumstances is that it deals with recession
resistant earnings. It s a concept that I ve never actually thought about before. The
idea that no matter how bad a recession in an economy is that the utilities BHE
exclusively provides are things that are considered to be essential services. Moving
on to the section titled manufacturing, Service and Retailing Operations it s said that
he has not made his last mistake in purchasing stocks or business and that not
everything works out as planned. This interests me because it s easy to think that
Warren Buffet such a successful man or on a more broad term Berkshire Hathaway
can do no wrong because of how successful it s proven
Es G And Ehs Management Practices
In today s business matter, numerous perspectives emphasize sustainability. Several
environmental, social, and governance issues, including health and safety among
other factors, have contributed to the diverse aspects of sustainability. The complex
business reforms brought by the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), including
social and governance (ES G) issues remain indistinctive in several disciplines. Some
widespread proposals exist over the application of, ES G and EHS management
practices and methods. To understand sustainability, it is essential to discover how it
has emerged and maintained a business focus.

Policymakers must consider a new development paradigm because it concerns public
welfare. Future generations must be taken into account when creating these
developments within the paradigm. Not only should the paradigm consider the
interdependence of economic, social, and environmental dimensions, but also human
needs must be met without compromising the future generation s quality of life.
One must observe that sustainability, is conceptually a broader interception of
environmental, social, and economic issues. In 1989, William Rees, a professor with
a creditable Ph.D. in population ecology, suggested that an agreeable universal
definition of the concept sustainable development was precondition to developing
acceptable policies and plans to support this concept. During the same year, Swedish
doctor named Karl Hendrick Robert, assembled a group of scientists and researchers.
Similarly, he believed the term lacked practical sense, thus his mission was to reach a
scientifically meaning for it. Subsequently, the research concluded that stainability is
the capacity of the human society to continue indefinitely within the cycles of natural
environment. A broad connotation on sustainable development created a complex

Reflection On The Book Night
What would it do to a person to go to a concentration camp, see the horrible things,
and come out alive? This book, Night, is about Eliezer Wiesel, who is both the
main character and the author. Elie s book is a memorial about his experience in
Hitler s concentration camps, what he went through, and how he survived. This
paper is going to be about Eliezer s horrific experience and the ways that it changed
him. One of the horrific moments that Eliezer went through is the time the small boy
got hung and it took half an hour for him to die. But the third rope was still moving:
the child, too light, was still breathing... And so remained for more than half an
hour... (Weisel 65) This changed him a lot because he knew how brutal the world...

An event very related to his feeling after his father s death was when he saw the
mob of people fighting over the bread and he saw a child kill his own father just
for a piece of bread: His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen
face. And was immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him.
And this shadow threw itself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was
crying: Mier, my little Mier! Don t you recognize me... You re killing your father...
I have bread... for you too... for you too... He collapsed. But his fist was still
clutching a small crust. He wanted to raise it to his mouth. But the other threw
himself on him. The old man mumbled something, groaned, and died. Nobody
cared. His son searched him, took the crust of bread, and began to devour it.
(Weisel 101) The boy killed his father without any sign of grief or hesitation just so
that he could have a simple piece of bread. Eliezer knew he could never do
something like this to his father, but he was thinking about just letting him die, so
that he wouldn t have to deal with him. Even with this thought he was able to resist
the urge, unlike the Rabbi s son. ...Separation to free himself of a burden... (Weisel

survival. These events led Eliezer to realize how people, including himself, could

The Lowering Ages of Students Who Study Abroad Essay
The Lowering Ages of Students Who Study Abroad
With the development of economy of China, the tendency for students to study
abroad increases every year. According to a report of the Institute of International
Education, there are 229,300 Chinese students who chose to study abroad in 2010.
That data means people who went to study abroad exceed 30 percentages than the
previous year. (Lin 1) A statistics showed Chinese spent 10 billion CNY, which
equals about 1.5 billion dollars on study abroad every year. What makes people
curious is that students who study as high school students or undergraduate students
occupied a huge part. This phenomenon is totally different from ten years ago. Before
that time, most of students who study abroad ... Show more content on

which conflicts with the goal, will be regarded as wrong. Especially in the third year
of senior middle school, students have no art or music class. All they do every day
is doing exercise in textbook and listening to the lecture. Despite of that, a lot of
students are not able to get the opportunities to be admitted by their preferred
universities. They have to study one more year and take the exam again .(Rong ,Shi
114)Some of them who are not willing to study one more year, prefer study abroad
and get a degree in foreign countries rather than study in ordinary universities of
China. So, a lot of students choose to study abroad after their senior high school.
What is more, some students who want to escape from the competitive environment
even choose to enter foreign senior high school, after graduating from junior high
school. (Zhu 1) This situation is a departure from the previous years, in which
students study abroad for graduate degree or PhD. The competitive environment is a
reasonable explanation for lowering ages of Chinese abroad students.
Another reason is the improvement of economic condition of Chinese people.
Because the government only provides financial aids for visiting scholars and
undergraduate students who major in some certain areasпјЊmost of the Chinese
students did not have opportunities to study abroad at young ages ten years ago.

debilitating disease or disorders. Using Botox as a medical treatment has recently hit

muscles in the vocal cords that cause interruptions in speech which affect the
quality of a person s voice. In the more common type, adductor spasmodic
dysphonia (ADSD), vocal cords prematurely tighten when speaking which causes a
squeaky high pitch voice. In the type of dysphonia my mom has, abductor

they are supposed to which results in a breathy, whispery voice. Her voice seemed
to get worse over time, it was less able to understand what she was
An Essay On The Role Of Women In British Literature
MY HEART AND IN VINE OF DESIRE Women is the maker, the mother , the one
who keeps the whole human race thriving. Women do so many different roles and at
the same time the most vulnurable being of all. The role of women in society is
constantly questioned and for centuries women have struggled to find their place in a
world that is predominantly male oriented. In the contemporary age women got many
opportunities in all field, even though women face many struggles in their life.
Throughout history, young women have been scrutinized with regard to their
attitudes, behavior, sexuality and general conduct. Literature provides a window
into the lives, thoughts and actions of women during certain periods of time in a
fictitious form, yet often truthful in many ways. Through submissive natures,

as a tool for expression. Many Indian writers have established a place for
themselves by voicing out their cries on behalf of the Indian women. A close
reading of British literature up to 19th century reveals that social issues and
challenges faced by women form a part of it but they were represented by male
writers, the validity of which is ambiguous. Women s literature which Jane Austen

Swot Analysis Of Alibuba In China

This is partially motivated by Ma s acknowledgement that the Chinese economy is

reaching these massive goals will require global expansion to new markets. The US
has a population of well over 300 million, and according to Pew Research, in the year

restricted internet. Thus, Alibaba would be wise to expand into this country full of
technologically active potential users. Relatedly, American firms Amazon and eBay
both once sought a greater share in the Chinese e commerce Market. Examining these
companies provides an interesting lens for Alibaba s potential expansion into the
United States, as these companies faced a similar culture shock between China and the
US. eBay attempted this entry in 2004, but failed due not comprehending the needs
and wants of Chinese consumers (http://onlinelibrary wiley com.uml.idm.oclc.org/doi

he emerged as a key figure in the Indian struggle for independence. Gandhi had the
mindset that he was prepared to die in order to achieve this goal.
Throughout......Gandhi positively affected human society when completing his
lifetime goals which were ending untouchability, uniting Hindus and Muslims in
India and gaining independence from the British.
First, one of Mohandas Gandhi s goals was to end untouchability. Untouchability is
a status of certain social groups confined to menial and despised jobs. Gandhi
believed that higher caste people should not touch people from lower castes, which
were considered lepers. He provided a home to those lepers by allowing them to stay

Gandhi led millions of Indians to fast the whole day and not to any work as a protest
against these harsh punishments. In addition, Gandhi led the Non cooperation
movement as well as the Civil Disobedience Movement. Both movements gained
much ground during the second world war. The Indian National Congress agreed

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a
punishment. (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits
and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over.
However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of
criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the
government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against
the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is
barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this
would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s
world because there is access to DNAtests and profiling. According to
www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information
all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance
of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play
important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to
place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to
prove a suspect s innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the
death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove
the suspect s innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for
prosecution.

Actually Dreaming with Wealth, Freedom, and Health
Actually Dreaming
When people think of the American Dream, typically the first three that come to
mind are wealth, living in freedom, and good health. Perhaps you ve heard through
tradition about these ideals, and through research, these three are the most prevalent
parts of what people think of the American Dream. There are other elements that
people can think of, of course, but as a general rule of thumb, these are the ones
that people default to. Most people have the same basic idea of the American
Dream, but most people are left ultimately unsatisfied with their lot in life and their
personal fulfillment of this Dream. The problem with the American Dream is that
the concept of it is not personal and the Dream is hard to achieve because the bar is
set so high that people believe the Dream means that anyone can be the next Bill
Gates or Whitney Houston. The American Dream should not be a one size fits all
ideal.
The American Dream is impersonal and vague; it doesn t describe the potential of

scope of the Dream? Barely being able to provide for a family is not an ideal

experience. Does this notion of barely scraping by fit into our idea of the Dream, or
must there be some kind of barrier, something keeping us from tipping into

Robot Capstone A major part of science this year was making robots. To start off, we
were asked to fill out a paper that contained who we would like to work with, what
we would like to make, and how we would do it. The class was then divided up into
groups and collaborated on a project. My group (James Estep and Sidney Sampson)
didn t have a preference, so we decided on a Wheelof Fortune themed robot.
After we decided what we would create, we ran into a bit of difficulty. We wanted a
lot of action to take place, but at the same time we wanted a passing grade. We
drew tons of diagrams, but none of them seemed to be a good fit. We finally decided
on our original design, in which James created. The design was pretty basic, and it

decided that the new addition should be the board that lit up when a letter was
correct. The only problem was that we only had six lights. We chose to represent
our team, and let the word be TEAM7C. This way, we were showing where we
came from and who we represented. Our first board looked very juvenile. It
consisted of pieces of paper taped together on a cardboard box. We inquired the
assistance of Ms. Backus to make it look better. We used her ideas to create a board
out of a page protector and paper. We printed out TEAM7C and inserted it into the
protector. We glued it onto the box and poked holes into the backside so the lights
would glow through.
After we watched our robot s presentation many times thoroughly, we still needed
something. Other groups were including music, so we did too. The robotic program
only used wav files, and the Wheel of Fortune music was nowhere to be found. We
found music that was not quite what we were looking for, but sounded like
something that would be on a game show. It took a very long time to find a sound,
but we accomplished it. We then incorporated it into our robot, and it made it even

The Effect Of Natural Selection
i.Evolution refers to change over time due to natural selection as organisms adapt and
diverge to produce multiple descendant species (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005, p. 698).
Two pillars which form the basis of all current knowledge of evolution originate from
the historical record of evolutionary change, fossil record and the study of the process
of evolutionary change, specifically the effect of natural selection. Recent
developments in science, including molecular and developmental biology, have
greatly contributed to the understanding of biological diversity and how evolution
has changed multiple species, particularly the humanspecies (Losos J., 2014, pp. 3).
ii. The concept of natural selection was partially introduced by naturalist Charles
Darwin in 1859 when he proposed and provided scientific evidence to describe
evolution as the idea that all species have evolved over time from common ancestors
through the process of natural selection. To survive in a particular environment,
Darwin s theory proposes that natural selection is the mechanism where organisms
must possess attributes that increase their chance of survival in that environment
(Chidrawi G., Robson M., Hollis S., 2010, pp 114). Therefore, there will be a
tendency for these attributes to be perpetuated and other less appropriate attributes to
be lost from the population over successive generations (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005,
pp. 698, 704). iii. Fossils are the remains of dead plants and animals that have not

The Role Of Plasma Bnp On Adults With Congestive Heart...
Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac hormone with diuretic, natriuretic, and
vasodilator properties. Measurement of plasma B type natriuretic peptide
concentrations is increasingly used to aid diagnosis, assess prognosis, and tailor
treatment in adults with congestive heart failure. Recent studies suggest that the
peptide is also useful in pediatric patients. The diagnostic role of plasma BNP in
neonates admitted to the NICU has shown promise as an aid in diagnosis in neonates
with signs of congenital heartdisease, as a biomarker of bronchopulmonary dysplasia,
patent ductus arteriosus, persistent pulmonary hypertensionof the newborn, a
predictive biomarker of the response to indomethacin in preterm infants, and, more
significantly, in acute heart failure.
Keywords: brain natriuretic peptide (BNP); bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD);
patent ductus arteriosus (PDA); persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn

heart failure develops and worsens), and vasodilatory properties (Figure 1).В№ In
particular, BNP is produced by cardiac ventricular cells in response to volume
expansion and increased pressure load such as in heart failure.2 So why not name the

Integrative Case 1.1 Starbucks While coffee is a simple product, the Starbucks
Experience that is mentioned several times throughout the case is exactly what
creates value for their customers and makes their company successful. Their strategy
includes creating a home away from home included as a part of their day to day
routine that reflects the personalities of their consumers and community. Consumers
are willing to pay more for Starbucks because they have a greater perceived value
through experience. Regarding Porter s Five Forces, Starbucks confronts a variety of
challenges that has presented difficulties specifically from 2007 to 2010. Starting
with the competitive rivalry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the ways Starbucks is approaching innovation is by attempting to tap into the
tea market. This presents a risk or success factor depending on how they approach
this. The tea industry has not been strongly commercialized and is a sacred part of
every day life for many cultures. Tapping into this market could be very successful
and a key to continuing Starbucks competitive advantage but also has the negative
affect of crashing and burning if it is not approached with caution in international
markets. However, the future of Starbucks continues to rely on sustaining themselves
as the premier brand in the specialized coffee

  • 2. The Plessy Vs. Ferguson Case Racism has been a part of our country since the early ages. Historically, racism and equality have been central issues that have divided our country. Many actions from the past such as the decision in the Plessy versus Ferguson case, and present day actions like The Mississippi school system case have been the ongoing battle in today s society. The struggle to achieve equality was made even more difficult by the legislation that is now considered racist in the Plessy versus Ferguson case. The Plessy versus Ferguson case started with an incident where an African American passenger on a train, Homer Plessy, broke Louisiana law by refusing to sit in a Jim Crow car, a separate cart on the train where African Americans had to sit. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Associate Justice John Marshall Harlan, the lone vote against the ruling, gave the dissenting opinion of the court. Harlan insisted that the court had ignored the obvious purpose of the Separate Car Act, which was, under the guise of giving equal accommodation for whites and blacks, to compel the latter to keep to themselves while traveling in railroad passenger coaches. Because it presupposed and was universally understood to presuppose the inferiority of African Americans, the act imposed a badge of servitude upon them in violation of the Thirteenth Amendment. (Duignan). He also stated, The sure guaranty of the peace and security of each race is the clear, distinct, unconditional recognition by our governments, national and state, of every right that inheres in civil freedom, and of the equality before the law of all citizens of the United States, without regard to race. State enactments regulating the enjoyment of civil rights upon the basis of race, and cunningly devised to defeat legitimate results of the war, under the pretense of recognizing equality of rights, can have no other result than to render permanent peace impossible, and to keep alive a conflict of races, the continuance of which must do harm to all concerned (Quotes from Plessy v. Fergusun). Harlan further explained what the constitution says by stating Our Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens. In

According to the looking glass theory, we use others as a mirror to see ourselves and we imagine what others think of us then include these imaginings in our self concept. The report proposes that leadership be embedded in nursing education to prepare nurses for this role. It describes the importance of mentorship in helping nurses to achieve advancement, leadership and partnership. Along with leadership roles a nursing residence or preceptorship program would be prudent to better transition nurses all the way from novice nurse into more multifaceted responsibilities and roles (The future of nursing: leading change, advancing health 2011). What a culture change this would be from nurses who are rumored to eat their young to nurses who mentor and guide those around them. A culture of teamwork working towards a common goal would increase nursing retention, satisfaction and in turn produce happy nurses who make happy patients! Meeting the Goals of the IOM Many challenges lay in the way of implementing the goals of the IOM. While the goals are necessary, they may be difficult to implement. The challenges are: 1. Similarities Between Machiavelli And Hobbes Machiavelli on Human Nature Niccolo Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbes were two modern political theorists who presented new ideas about political organization in the 16th and 17th century. While Machiavelli focused his written works on ideas related to effective governance, Hobbes attempts to explain the necessity of establishing a ruler to maintain peace and stability. Although Niccolo Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbesfocused on different aspects of political theory, both thinkers addressed the concept of human nature in their written works. Here, he suggests that humans have a tendency to take action whenever they think it will result in a personal gain or help them get closer to achieving another self interest. Both Machiavelli and Hobbes believe that humans tend to take actions that they believe will benefit themselves in some way. Although Machiavelli and Hobbes agree on the basic motivation of human nature, their understandings of human nature conflict when considering the consistency of these qualities in a variety of situations. Niccolo Machiavelli would argue that humans consistently act out in selfish and immoral ways. In order to support this idea, Machiavelli uses history to demonstrate patterns in human behavior, actions, and motivations. For instance, in The Prince, Machiavelli uses the example of Cesare Borgia and other historical rulers to show that human behavior is consistent and that even virtuous leaders have had to take self interested actions to control their citizens. To Machiavelli, all humans are born with this self interest. On the other hand, in The Essential Leviathan, Hobbes suggests that human nature is variable based on different situation. Although it may seem that Hobbes has an entirely negative perception of human nature, the 17th century writer also argues that humans may not have an inherently bad nature, but that it is

Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we all know and recognize as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of the first half of her career, with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d and t , was the result of tutoring from Lytess (Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her to lower her tone and from that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy seductive timbre. It is believed that this change in how she speaks, almost as if in character, is what cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of modifying ones tone, proves to be a successful method of therapy in the world of speech pathology Many of the current therapies for teens and adults who stutter focus on helping them learn ways to minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by speaking more slowly, regulating their breathing, or gradually progressing from single syllable responses to longer words and more complex sentences. Most of these therapies also help address the anxiety a person who stutters may feel

One of these concepts is that Lukacs wants the reader to honestly consider just how close the Allies came to losing the war. Another of these notions is the idea that the main difference between Churchill and Hitler concerned nationalism versus patriotism and a third idea is just how greatly history can be effected by the courageous decisions of a few people.Lukacs makes strong mention of how close Hitler came to victory. Hitler got everything he wanted for so long, without even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can all understand this, especially when looking back at the horror of WWII. Hitler abused the idea of nationalism and thet is why the author made sure not to leave this footnote out of his book. Hitler got the german people to follow him under this demented idea that Germany should be considered better than everybody else, and yet it is astonishing that nobody seemed to noticed that Hitler was not even a German. Lukacs wants the reader to raise these questions to themselves so they can see how unique this entire situation was. The idea that the entire course of history is changed by the decisions of a few people is a very important notion in the book. The hesitance of Hitler in early July is especially important and vital to the outcome of the war. Lukacs depicts the two men differently then one would expect. In this evaluation, Hitler does not want to attack Britain. He wants them to simply make peace, of course on his terms. He was not sure if England would go for this, and if they did not, he knew that the time had come to force them to do so. He could not shake Churchill, no matter how many other leaders crumbled. Hitler s generals wanted to use force, but Hitler remained reluctant. The author effectively exhibits Hitler s hesitance. He makes the evil man seem human saying that Hitler wanted to make a peace proposal on a great and generous scale. (159). However, it

Not only should the paradigm consider the interdependence of economic, social, and environmental dimensions, but also human needs must be met without compromising the future generation s quality of life. One must observe that sustainability, is conceptually a broader interception of environmental, social, and economic issues. In 1989, William Rees, a professor with a creditable Ph.D. in population ecology, suggested that an agreeable universal definition of the concept sustainable development was precondition to developing acceptable policies and plans to support this concept. During the same year, Swedish doctor named Karl Hendrick Robert, assembled a group of scientists and researchers. The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNAtests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. The Effect Of Natural Selection i.Evolution refers to change over time due to natural selection as organisms adapt and diverge to produce multiple descendant species (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005, p. 698). Two pillars which form the basis of all current knowledge of evolution originate from the historical record of evolutionary change, fossil record and the study of the process of evolutionary change, specifically the effect of natural selection. Recent developments in science, including molecular and developmental biology, have greatly contributed to the understanding of biological diversity and how evolution has changed multiple species, particularly the humanspecies (Losos J., 2014, pp. 3). ii. The concept of natural selection was partially introduced by naturalist Charles Darwin in 1859 when he proposed and provided scientific evidence to describe evolution as the idea that all species have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process of natural selection. To survive in a particular environment, Darwin s theory proposes that natural selection is the mechanism where organisms must possess attributes that increase their chance of survival in that environment (Chidrawi G., Robson M., Hollis S., 2010, pp 114). Therefore, there will be a tendency for these attributes to be perpetuated and other less appropriate attributes to be lost from the population over successive generations (Huxley L., Walter M., 2005, pp. 698, 704). iii. Fossils are the remains of dead plants and animals that have not

  • 44. The Role Of Plasma Bnp On Adults With Congestive Heart... Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac hormone with diuretic, natriuretic, and vasodilator properties. Measurement of plasma B type natriuretic peptide concentrations is increasingly used to aid diagnosis, assess prognosis, and tailor treatment in adults with congestive heart failure. Recent studies suggest that the peptide is also useful in pediatric patients. The diagnostic role of plasma BNP in neonates admitted to the NICU has shown promise as an aid in diagnosis in neonates with signs of congenital heartdisease, as a biomarker of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, patent ductus arteriosus, persistent pulmonary hypertensionof the newborn, a predictive biomarker of the response to indomethacin in preterm infants, and, more significantly, in acute heart failure. Keywords: brain natriuretic peptide (BNP); bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD); patent ductus arteriosus (PDA); persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) Accepted for publication July 2015 {Need section Heads.} Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac natriuretic hormone mainly produced by cardiomyocytes and is characterized by diuretic, natriuretic (substances secreted from the ventricles of the heart in response to changes in pressure that occur when heart failure develops and worsens), and vasodilatory properties (Figure 1).В№ In particular, BNP is produced by cardiac ventricular cells in response to volume expansion and increased pressure load such as in heart failure.2 So why not name the

This presents a risk or success factor depending on how they approach this. The tea industry has not been strongly commercialized and is a sacred part of every day life for many cultures. Tapping into this market could be very successful and a key to continuing Starbucks competitive advantage but also has the negative affect of crashing and burning if it is not approached with caution in international markets.
