Ll Bean Case
L.L. Bean, Inc. Case Study Paper
L.L. Bean, Inc. was started in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean to sell his invention of the Main Hunting
shoe and was marketed to sports hunters via a mail order circular. Leon Gorman, L.L. s grandson,
succeeded him as president in 1967, and continued to build the company with his Grandfather s
golden rule in mind, Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like human
beings, and they ll always come back for more (Schleifer, 1993). The company would continue to
grow into a major catalog distributor, manufacturer, and retailer of outdoor sporting merchandise
(Schleifer, 1993).
The catalog has been the driving force of sales for L.L. Bean and is released throughout the year in
several versions: spring, summer, fall, and Christmas. Full catalogs, consisting of all the available
merchandise items offered were sent to regular customers. Potential customers, discovered through

Bean is an application of a probability distribution based on prior year demand errors. The errors are
applied to each item, both never out and new items for the current catalog. There is no consideration
of the impact of applying this distribution is calculated with prior year new item data and applying it
to current year new items, should be a major issue of concern for management. The demand forecast
method should be able to help control inventory levels, Stuart Dunkin (2013) states, An inventory
replenishment system that is based on a demand forecast (demand driven) can reduce the risk of lost
sales while improving service. L.L. Bean s current inventory control does not control the risk of lost
sales, Rol Fessenden, L.L. Bean s Manager of Inventory Systems, recognizes the current difficulty
they have with predicting customer demand, and that the high demand items they are unable to get

Will T. Snider s Essay Hey Daddy
Hey Daddy argumentative essay by Will T Snider In the poem Hey Daddy (please come back) we
know very little about Jesse s dad other than he has a son named Jesse and one day he left on a plane
and didn t come back. Have you ever wondered what happened to Jesse Debenport s dad in Hey
Daddy To answer this question, let s dive into the realm of speculation as to what happened to Jesse s
dad. You will find that if you look between the lines you will find a convoluted answer to a simple
question. So let s start with what we know about Mr. Debenport and try to conclude why he left. The
information we know about Mr. Debenport is minute; we know he has a son, which means either he
adopted or had a wife. According to the poem, .....The whole family ... Show more content on

I mean I this situation wouldn t you be too? But there other people who believe different things about
this poem many people claim he just had a divorce so here is why he didn t. The poem mentions the
whole family is grieving key word here grieving. Yes a little sadness happens over a divorce but
centrally not grieving, grieving is usually used in the context of death. But how did you come to the
conclusion of 9/11 being the cause death of for the dad well as the intro stated this is just a speculation
as to what happened to Jesse s dad not fact. So this leaves you with a basic answer that seems like a
mad lib fill in the blank the dad died on (9/11). Though it s cheesy up until this though all other
theories were to be turf and pithy stupid and nonsensical they were all death by plane crash, divorce,
went missing and just left all of Theas are missing a why and how he either died or left. I m Shure you
know the statement don t judge a book by its cover well with other hey daddy theories you can and
they go along these lines uninteresting, cliché, thoughtless and heavy handedly written. We now know
a tiny more about Jesse s dad and what happened to him. We can guess that Jesse was driven to
depression after the death of his dad and chose to be an author. Jesse chose to be an author after his
dad died on a business trip to New York. So to conclude we now see why this poem is so depressing at
the end. Jesse s dad didn t leave he died on 9/11 on united airlines flight 175 when the plane hit the

Reactions And Reactions Of Redox Reactions
Introduction:
Without the millions of chemical reactions that occur every day, life would be completely different.
An important class of common reactions includes those which involve the simultaneous transfer of
electrons between chemicals, commonly referred to as redox reactions or oxidation reduction
reactions. Redox reactions are whole reactions composed of two different half reactions known as
oxidation (where electrons are lost) and reduction (where electrons are gained) (Chemguide, 2013).
When there is an increase in the oxidation state, the reaction is oxidation; when there is a decrease, it
is reduction. Oxidation cannot possibly occur without an affiliated reduction, and vice versa. Redox
reactions are notated as such:
Cu(s)  Cu2+ + 2e
In the half reaction above, a copper ion (with a plus 2 charge) is formed from the oxidation of solid
copper (with no charge). The e in the equation is an electron which is free to reduce other chemical
atoms, such as in the half reaction:
2Ag+(aq) + 2e  2Ag(s)
Two electrons are added to the two silver ions in this half reaction, in order to produce a solid silver.
These two half reactions can be combined to form a redox equation as follows:
Cu(s)  Cu2+(aq) + 2e
2 Ag+(aq) + 2e  2Ag(s)
Cu(s) + 2Ag+(aq) + 2e  Cu2+(aq) + 2Ag(s) + 2e
OR
Cu(s) + 2Ag+(aq)  Cu2+(aq) + 2Ag(s)

The Snows Of Kilimanjaro And The Big Two Hearted River
This research paper will analyze style and theme in two of Ernest Hemingway s short stories, The
Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Big Two Hearted River, and two novels, The Sun Also Rises and Green
Hills of Africa.1
The Snows of Kilimanjaro is about an author named Harry, who is lying on the African plain and
dying of gangrene. The Big Two Hearted River is about an ex World War I soldier, Nick, who is trying
to put his life back together after the war. Similarly, The Sun Also Rises involves an ex soldier who is
coping with a personal injury and seeks love with a woman named Brett Ashley. Lastly, Green Hills of
Africa, is a non fiction story about Hemingway hunting in Africa. Hemingway visited Africa in 1923.
This is the only book that is completely autobiographical. In the four works reviewed, Ernest
Hemingway has two themes, one about the self and another about his interpretation of a hero, and uses
several techniques such as symbolism, first person narrative, and ambiguity that define his style of
writing.
Analysis of all of Hemingway s prose reveals many themes. Two themes though stand out in the four
works reviewed for this paper. One of them is that the main character (usually the hero) must assert
the self, has a fear of failure, and attacks those things which threaten the successful assertion of the
self. Assertion of the self in the stories usually takes the form of the assertion of the masculine
principle. In Green, Hemingway exerts his masculinity by

Black Stereotypes Of Modern Media

Essay Assignment 1
Anti Black Stereotypes in Modern Media Stereotypes are defined as an oversimplified image or idea
about a specific type of person. It is believed that stereotypes about African Americans began in the
United States around the 18th century. Anti Black stereotypes arguably the most developed racist
stereotypes in racial framing and have been used as foundations for the capture, enslavement, and
later, the subjugation of African American people. Stating that stereotypes are just a joke is an
understatement of the consequential after math racial images and stereotypes have on the African
American population. Even stereotypes that are considered positive are often concealed with negative
implications and reasons as to why they exist. Most people may think they only hold stereotypes in the
back of their head, but studies show that people are more likely to fall back on them in making
judgments when they feel challenged, face uncertainty, or experience sensory overload. Using
information from class, comparisons from the films we have watched and Ed Guerrero s Framing
Blackness, this paper will analyze the stereotypes in the television show Empire. Empire is an
American soap opera drama created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. The summary of the show is
that hip hop mogul turned CEO Dwight Walker, better known to the public as Lucious Lyon, has been
diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when his music company,

Effects Of Lower Oil Prices On Canada s Economic Activity
Literature Review
Effects of Lower Oil Prices on Canada s Economic Activity
Consumer Price Index
Falling oil prices leads to a fall in the price of gasoline which is derived from oil. Subsequently,
consumption of gasoline rises as Canadians benefit from lower oil prices. In fact, The Conference
Board of Canada (Bernard 2015)estimates that the average household would save close to $1000 in
2015. This has a direct impact on the Canadian total CPI basket in which gasoline account for about
5% of total CPI (Bartlett 2014).
# (Bernard 2015) Although lower gasoline and consumer prices should help lift purchasing power and
sustain real household spending, it likely won t be enough to counter the trend of easing growth in
household spending in Canada. Soft employment growth, weak wage gains, the high level of
household debt, easing real estate markets, and the threat of job losses in oil rich provinces will
combine to take some of the steam out of real consumer spending in 2015 even as overall inflation
falls to just 1.2 per cent.
Terms of Trade (ratio of export prices to import prices) The value of the Canadian dollar tends to
moves in tandem with oil prices so as oil prices have been falling recently, so has the value of the
Canadian dollar. A depreciation of the Canadian dollar makes Canadian exports relatively more
competitive in the world market however, as Canadian exports become cheaper relative to its imports,
this negatively affects the Canadian terms of trade. This

Why Is English A Mandatory Language
English is a Western Germanic language and was first spoken in England and now known as the
global lingua franca. If there were one language that could have a chance of being considered as
universal, it would be definitely English. This is because it has become the world s language for
technology, commerce, and also empowerment. The internet is also a proof of it because most parts of
the internet were written in English. Internet is also used in communicating with people overseas and
some countries are forced to learn the said language. Anyone will be quite speechless if they
discovered a land without anyone who knows English. However, making English as a mandatory
language can affect many people. It could break up culture and will cause in the lack of variety. People
often talk about English as a global language or lingua franca with more than three hundred fifty
million people around the world speaking English as a first language and more than four hundred
thirty million speaking it as a second language. On the other hand, two billion people is the expected

An Analysis Of Dog s Death, By John Updike
Dog s Death
The poem, Dog s Death, written by John Updike brings the reader through a sentimental and heart
wrenching journey, with the life gone too soon, of a beautiful puppy that passes away from a traumatic
injury. The poem does not reveal the owner of the puppy, but we do know that the narrator is a man, a
father, and a husband when Updike states, Monday morning, as the children were noisily fed and I
stroked her warm fur / And my wife (592). The owner could be Updike or someone else. He allows
the reader to share in the family s grief and heartbreak in the loss of their beloved puppy. The death of
a family pet can be one of the most traumatic experiences in a person s life. This poem is a reminder to
anyone who has ever lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is still loyal and a Good dog (592) to her family, even on her deathbed.
Throughout his poem, Updike s tone is sympathetic, somber, and sorrowful when he tells us about the
death of his puppy. The reader knows that she was loved unconditionally when he relays these
heartbreaking words, Though surrounded by love that would have upheld her, / Nevertheless she sank
and, stiffening, disappeared (592). Updike lets the reader know that if love could have saved her she
had more than enough love from her family to have kept her alive. The feelings and emotions for the
puppy show the bond that is formed between animals and their families.
Updike s words are chosen to bring the reader into the emotions surrounding his poem and, in
addition, his use of symbolism guides the reader through a much deeper meaning. For example, the
word choice that he uses for the following line brings the reader to a very sorrowful place in his poem
when he states, And her heart was learning to lie down forever (592) after an autopsy determined that
his puppy has a ruptured liver. The poem line hints at the deeper meaning to show a dog command, lie
down , that he used while training her. She is still learning and worthy of the words, Good Dog! even
in death. Another example of symbolism used is the newspaper, when Updike states, Back home, we
found that in the night her frame, /

Mass Media Bias Analysis
The media brings forward information on world issues that could be misleading from the actual
significance of the story. Bias media comes from many media outlets such as: news producers, social
media, and journalists who make false claims to gain more attraction to an audience who interprets the
issues inaccurately. The articles NRA sues Florida over a new gun law in wake of Stoneman Douglas
shooting and Will Parkland Change the Gun Debate? lean towards moderate bias because it contains
the main viewpoint of gun control in Florida, but then moves away from it with unimportant side
stories. Unlike the article Transcript: Stoneman students questions to lawmakers and the NRA at the

Emily Dickinson’s Because I Could Not Stop For Death Essay
Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for Death is a remarkable masterpiece that exercises
thought between the known and the unknown. Critics call Emily Dickinson s poem a masterpiece with
strange haunting power.
In Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop for Death, there is much impression in the tone, in
symbols, and in the use of imagery that exudes creativity. One might undoubtedly agree to an eerie,
haunting, if not frightening, tone in Dickinson s poem. Dickinson uses controlling adjectives slowly
and passed to create a tone that seems rather placid. For example, We slowly drove He knew no haste /
...We passed the School ... / We passed the Setting Sun , sets a slow, quiet, calm, and dreamy
atmosphere (5, 9, 11, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to these three stages, the final stage of eternity was symbolized in the last two lines of the
poem, the Horses Heads (23), leading towards Eternity (24). Dickinson fathomed the
incomprehensible progression of life by unraveling its complexity with figurative symbols. Emily
Dickinson dresses the scene such that mental pictures of sight, feeling, and sound come to life. The
imagery begins the moment Dickinson invites Her reader into the Carriage. Death slowly takes the
readers on a sight seeing trip where they see the stages of life. The first site We passed was the School,
where Children strove (9). Because it deals with an important symbol, the Ring this first scene is
perhaps the most important. One author noted that the children, at recess, do not play (as one would
expect them to) but strive (Monteiro 20).
In addition, at recess, the children performed a venerable ritual, perhaps known to all, in a ring. This
ritual is called Ring a ring a roses, and is recited: Ring a ring a roses, A pocket full of posies; Hush!
hush! hush! hush! We re all tumbled down. (qtd. in Greenaway 365) Monteiro made the discovery and
concluded that For indeed, imbedded in their ritualistic game is a reminder of the mortal stakes that
the poet talks about elsewhere (21). On this invited journey, one vividly sees the Children playing,
laughing, and singing. This scene conveys deep emotions and moods

Violence in Mass Media
Violence in Mass Media
Violence is everywhere and in everything from what we see to what we hear. Today s society has
become acquainted with the violence in video games, tv shows, movies, and music since it is
everywhere but many have become too attached to this violence and brought it to real life. Many
assume that getting rid of this violence is essential to a more passive and peaceful society but there are
more benefits to the portail of violence that society sees today. One of the key items that people
assume that is the reason children of this society are more violent, is video games but they started as
all things do, a harmless activity for fun. The first videogame was Pong and that was considered a fun
game for everyone then to the game, Dungeons and Dragons, which had actual text and story and so
on and after one of the most famous games, Legend of Zelda, games started to become more action
packed and violent. Every game after Legend of Zelda started to become more violent, longer stories
and better graphics in the 1980 s but when it hit the 1990 s, games started to become more 3 D and
realistic. People fear that because they are becoming more realistic every year that when people play
them, they will be so lost in the violence and story that they will drag it into real life like the Newtown
shooter, who said that he used Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 video game to train before the shooting.
Video games have changed a lot from the past and are more immersive and

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Internal Hiring
Firstly, internal hiring can be better explained in the situation where an employer carries out staff s
assessment to find out if among his or her current staff there is one or a few who are adequately
qualified or skilled to take on the job vacancies that need to be occupied. When a company or a firm
decides to engage in internal hiring, a current member of staff may be reallocated new roles by being
offered an internal transfer or a promotion. An internal promotion is a process where an employer
recognizes by identification of staffs that display high potential and are performing better than others
(Bauer Bender, 2004 p. 273). Ideally, job vacancies that are filled using internal promotions are never
made public hence other staffs don t get an opportunity to make applications. Strategies of internal
hiring are used when firms choose to give their employees promotions in the firm to take up vacancies
positions or even new position in the organization. A good number of organizations even make the
employees aware on a possible vacancy in the organization by use of fliers, emails, or notice boards.
This form of hiring helps the organization retain employees who are talented with anticipation of
future job promotions. Internal hiring has both advantages and disadvantages as discussed below
(Fernandez, Abraham, 2011). Internal hiring has a considerable lower expenses and costs to an
organization as compared the long and expensive process of looking for new employees to be

Differences Between Troy And The Iliad
As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no
doubt that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple
works of art over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy,
which attempts to make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern
audience at the same time. In this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of
time spans, intended audiences, portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources
and conveyed messages.
One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a
Trojan war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year
of the siege of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King
Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of
the Achaean army. Homer doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the
Trojan War was well known to the Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for
numerous times and the general plot was still fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand
out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his audience about the war as a whole, but rather
spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A major part of an average Aztec man or woman entertaining area would be the game Tlachlli. This
game would be played, and the results would affect how the future could be. They would play in a
semi big stadium where a rubber ball would be hit with the Aztec players, as they would try to get it
through a hole up on a wall. Goals were extremely rare, but if you did score, you would extremely
famous throughout the empire. (Steele, 20 amp;21.) Priests said that the gods would play Tlachilli, the
sky would be their court, and the sun would be their ball. The results of a game would tell the priest
what would happen in the future. (Steele, 21 amp;25.)
I found many interesting facts during this study, and the most interesting fact, which I found was one
of the Aztecs ancient beliefs. The Aztecs said that where they would find an eagle on a cactus with a
snake in its mouth, which is where they would build their city. (Stuart, 69.) They found a snake on a
cactus with a eagle in its mouth and built their city on it. The city was named Tenochit. This
tremendous city was their home, and in the center they had Pyramids where they would make their
sacrifices for their gods. This city is now what makes the heart of the huge capital of Mexico, Mexico
City. And the emblem in which the Aztecs had pictured of an eagle on a cactus with a snake in its
mouth can now be found on the flag of Mexico.

Social Conflict In A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee...
The streetcar name desire: two contrasting Tennessee Williams productions show the need to respect
the text
The play a streetcar named desire written by an american playwright Tennessee Williams in 1984
caused the 180 degree shift in the treatment of social conflict in american theater.
After opening the first page of the play and being dragged inside the story, the readers are shown that
the play consist the perfect harmony of contrasts. The new and old era, men s superiority and women s
powerlessness are the main examples. With an extraordinary and yet stunningly interesting plot line,
Tennessee was able to create the characters where each consists various aspect of change in america.
The original play script handles a depressing and stifling story about a woman name blanche who s
full of vanity and her hostile relationship with an abusive men name stanley. Blanche set an extremely
high value in her class and how she is represented. However due to her broke financial status, her
representation is all fake. Throughout the play, numerous and severe flaws of blanche s ... Show more

tensions between them which are sparsely shown throughout the play portrays a big symbol of the
Tennessee intention of representing Stanley s masculine body being extremely attracting to Blanche.
The streetcar named desire therefore calls for a mixture of elegant and daring portrayal. The way these
features and quality lived and harmonized in the play in the direction done by a new promising

The Characteristics Of Narcissism
INTRODUCTION
Being attractive is a mandatory virtue for any individual, considering the fact that the media today
heavily influences us to an extent that certain physical features are fantasized to devalue those of other
physiques. As subjective as it is, the perception of beauty is a controversial phenomenon. Dionne and
Davis (2012) believed that personality is a lens through which this view [perception of beauty] is
filtered and this lens of personality can also serve to bias the judgments we make about body size and
shape and the consequences of these judgments on self worth (italics added).
Narcissism
To what owes such judgment on this particular subject lies rather under one s personality. Such
complexity is introduced as narcissism; a term defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders in 1987 in their third and revised edition a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in
fantasy and behavior), lack of empathy, and hypersensitivity to the evaluation of others, beginning by

Morf and Rhodewalt (2001) believed that self affirmation has a significant impact on how a narcissist
is born. When self needs were not met in childhood, they would seek to achieve them in their later
relationship, causing it to be imbued with hostility and mistrust (Morf Rhodewalt, 2001). Likewise,
Patricia described herself as not good enough for her parents and thus, reacted with enraged when
criticized or treated badly ; of which this behavior was seen under high angry hostility (Corbitt, 2002).
In addition, a narcissist also exhibits grandiosity and self importance repetitively (Morf Rhodewalt,
2001). Such selfishness was evident when Patricia showed lack of empathy for other employees to be
in charge of an unpleasant job that she was first assigned to (Corbitt,

How Does Shakespeare Present Iago s Character In Othello
Throughout literature, authors manipulate their characters in certain manners to help the audience
discover their identities and their personalities. One way that William Shakespeare presents Iago s
character in Othello is through Iago s sacrifices. Shakespeare communicates Iago s pure craving for
revenge through what Iago is willing to give up and emphasizes just how far Iago s envy will persuade
him to go. Iago is willing to sacrifice all the honor that is and could ever be associated with his name
just for the idea of Othello s downfall. As the play progresses, Iago continues to be possessed by a
wild desire to ruin Othello, and as he continues to act upon this desire, he finds himself enwrapped in
complex and ever changing lies. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that Iago is angry with Othello and Cassio, Iago should not be mad enough about the
promotion to lead it to the end of Othello or the murder of Desdemona. While it is understandable that
he would be mad, Iago does not have a reason to be this angry and this creates a complexity to Iago s
character that makes him an interesting villain. The audience can conclude that Iago simply enjoys the
idea of hurting others. He is flattered by how manipulative and sneaky he is, and often times
throughout the play, he will have an aside speech where he tells the audience just what he has done
and what it will lead to. Iago s character is very diverse, yet simple at the same time. He enjoys the art
of evil and seeing others suffer. This contributes a great deal to the play because once it is evident to
the audience that there is not much standing in the way between Iago and evil, it is understood that he
will not stop until he feels that he has got his revenge. It can also be understood that in order for Iago
to feel truly satisfied, there will need to be pain and harm towards Othello, and perhaps even Cassio.
This allows the audience to prepare and ponder just what Iago might

Marilyn G Eazy Analysis
Determining a Potential Break Up: Analyzing the meaning of Marilyn by G Eazy Behind every love
song is a meaningful message that the audience often misses because they re hooked onto the beat, or
simply don t see the big picture. G Eazy is a new rapper who, over the past couple of years, has slowly
grown into a well known artist. Before everyone knew him for the song Me, Myself and I, he had an
album previous to his latest one, When It s Dark Out. In the album, These Things Happen, there was a
specific song that truly stands out to those in relationships. All relationships have their ups and downs
and everyone can agree to that. Marilyn by G Eazy, sends off a clear message to its audience:
relationships are difficult. The song starts off with the hook. The girl is talking to some guy, possibly
her boyfriend, and tells him, ...I want to love you/But if it s not right what can I do? (1 2). Within the
first few lines we can assume there is a conflict the couple is facing. Possibly him not wanting to be

Compare And Contrast Tom Brady And Peyton Manning
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have become household names in the past decade or so, and for good
reason. Both of these quarterbacks have shown game in and game out that they are among the best to
ever play. Anyone that knows the slightest bit about American football will know exactly what
someone means when they talk about these two in the Hall of Fame discussion. So what makes these
two quarterbacks different? Well, there is not much. Throughout their storied careers, they have had to
overcome hardships, which only reiterates the point of their G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time) status.
These players are similar in their play style and records, but are different due to the adversity and
hardships each player has had to overcome. The first and arguably most obvious similarity between
these two players is that they are two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position. Regardless
if you ask someone that dislikes either of these two, they will most likely agree that Brady and
Manning have become the face of the sport. When they take the field, they are unquestioned leaders
and will always give whatever it takes to push the team to success. Another glaring similarity between
these two quarterbacks is their athleticism and play style. Neither of these players were gifted with
speed. However, they more than make up for their lack of agility with their throws. Their
understanding of the game and the other team s defense allows them to make throws that would look

The Cruelty of Animal Testing
Animal testing is a completely unnecessary act of cruelty and should not be allowed for various
reasons. It is superfluous for innocent animals to undergo chemical testing of any sort, not only do
they suffer, but there are other more humane alternatives to test products. Many people who are in
favor of animal testing do not know of these safer more humane alternatives. Many methods have
been developed to help stop animal testing, and improve the health system of all human beings.
A significant amount of chemical testing is done on animals and is completely unnecessary. Many
companies test on animals to evaluate the efficiency of a chemical. When testing on animals they
usually check for skin or eye irritation after pouring harsh chemicals onto the shaved skin of a delicate
animal, usually a rabbit, or it is dripped into their eyes without any form of pain relief. [1] Not only
are they tested upon, but afterwards if they have not already died, they are killed by either:
asphyxiation, neck breaking, or decapitation.
Many drug companies use animals for the lethal dose test; they force a defenseless animal to swallow
significant amounts of the chemical which is being tested until they determine the dose that will cause
death. [2] This type of chemical test on animals causes excruciating pain to them because the
chemicals are practically destroying their internal systems as more chemicals are being inserted into
their small bodies.
The drug efficiency test is one of the

Castaway Analysis
In the movie Castaway, Chuck Noland is marooned on a deserted island by himself. He lost everyone
he ever knew and because of that he started to go insane. To cope with this, he created a friend for
himself, helping him keep his sanity and to be less lonely. At times, he lost motivation, and he almost
gave up. Noland learned how to get food, clean water, and make a shelter in the four years he was on
the island, fulfilling his basic needs . Ultimately, the main reason he almost died multiple times while
marooned was because he was alone. Love and belongingness needs are one of the most important
needs for human survival because without human interaction, one could lose their sanity, motivation,
and can become lonely. Some people who follow Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs believe that the basic
needs are the most important needs. Seeing as how the basic needs include food, water, and rest, this
makes sense. Without those essentials, one will die. In the book The Clay Marble by Minfong Ho, in
chapter nine, a young refugee named Dara is walking back to her campsite after being separated from
her family. I noticed an old man looking at me curiously. He was sitting with his own family, holding a
plate of cold rice. I looked at it hungrily, but could not bring myself to ask for any food. Dara is
rejecting asking for food, and yet the only reason she is there in the first place is to find her family.
Dara cannot bear to lose them, and would rather go hungry looking for them than be fully nourished
without them. This shows how much risk people will go through for the ones they love. Dara
wandered back to her campsite, right after it had been bombed, to try and find the people she loved.
Eating, drinking, and sleeping are key human instincts, but on the other hand, so is love. In the article
Homeless turn lives around step by step , in which the topic is a woman who started a running club for
homeless people, On line 36, Anne Mahlum, the founder of the running club, Back On My Feet, state
s: Right above those needs is an innate desire to be recognized, valued, appreciated, loved and cared
for. These desires, just like those of food and shelter, do not become less important as we grow older.

How Violent Media Affects Children
There is a very important social issue that must be addressed to save our future generations from
decline. The social issue I will be analyzing is how violence in media affects children. Thus brutality
itself becomes at once the means to success and the content of success a success that is defined in its
most general terms, not as accomplishment or specific gain, but simply as the unlimited possibility of
aggression (Warshow 433). Doing evil deeds to reach a certain level of success is how a gangster
reaches success and this perception of bad being good clouds children s judgement to do the right
thing. Children are wrongly influenced by many mediums including drug abuse in movies, anger
management and video game violence. Violence in media affects children in a negative way by
influencing them to use drugs, become bullies and mature into abusive adults because it gives people a
false sense of reality towards violent behavior. The main reason is how children use violence to stand
out in a negative way among other Children. Using violence to fit in with a group of people by doing
drugs or being a bully towards others is a very common example. Many groups use peer pressure to
appeal to the crowd. Using drugs has attracted many people to groups that deal drugs or promote the
usage of drugs. The studies also discovered that more than 14 percent of prime time television shows
portray tobacco use without any negative consequences, and more than 11 percent of American

A. The term bystander refers to the phenomenon in which the greater the numbers of people present,
the less likely people are to help a person in distress. When an emergency situation occurs, observers
are more likely to take action if there are few or no other witnesses, but in other cases the observers
are most likely to be ignorant either because they don t want to intervene or feel as if it s not there

The Change Process Essay
At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need
for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and
vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather
information from the lower level management up to the top level management.
Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found in
Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on
communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders
can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn
followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous amount
of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since Ghosn
provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid confusions,
and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also engaged people
being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which had the challenge to
identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication strategy (at least based on the
case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306).
Plamer et al. (2009) introduced various questions,

What s That Smell In The Kitchen Analysis
Anyone can make a large difference by the smallest act. Many authors find ways to use their writing
to help make a large difference in the world. Marge Piercy does this in her poem What s That Smell in
the Kitchen? This poem was used to help boost the feminist movement for equality. Her poem engulfs
the idea that one small act can help to make a large difference in the feminist movement, and she does
this using several poetic techniques. Piercy s poem was written in 1982, when many women were still
homemakers, or they not only worked but did all the household chores. This was not equality, women
should not be forced to cook and clean because their husband does not want to. She should not have to
fake a smile when feeding her family because that is what society thinks is correct. Piercy claims: All
over America women are burning/ food they re supposed to bring with calico/ smile[s] on platters
glittering like wax (ll. 6 8). Piercy s diction is very angry and she notes this with her use of the word
calico to help express ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

husband; just the mere idea of picturing someone you chose to live your life with spinning over a fire,
burning to a crisp. This may be a bit extreme, but instead of cooking her husband, the speaker could
instead burn dinner. The one small act that women could make to defy society s expectation of
themselves in Piercy s eye seems to be: Burning dinner (l. 22). Hardly anyone likes to eat burnt food,
but if that food is being burnt because the speaker is unhappy with her life, she is using it as a silent
weapon to prove that she can make her husband s life just as miserable as her

Abstract
Third party logistics is a provider that gives companies the ability to outsource their logistics services.
Logistics services that may include anything throughout an organization that involves management of
the way resources are moved to areas where they are required or needed. Some would say the term,
third party logistics, come from the military. In the business world, third party logistics con somewhat
have a broader meaning. Meaning that it can be associated with service contracts that involve shipping
or storing of items. Third party logistics provide services that may be a single service such as
warehouse storage or transportation related, but it can also provide a system wide bundle of services
that have the capability of managing a company s entire supply chain. Photo provided by Robinson

The 1960s Was A Time Of Great Development
The 1960s was a time of great development. After the conformity and fear that controlled people in
the 1950s, many people began breaking loose and acting out in ways never seen before. The 1950s
brought the severe threat of nuclear war and fear of communism which caused extreme conformity.
However, with the onset of the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War certain
people were extremely determined to change the views of the world and stand up for what they
believed in. One of the largest groups of individuals pushing for change were Hippies. Hippies were a
unique group of young individuals who began to break out in their own ways in the country. They

life since they weren t dressing the way the rest of the country was. The rest of the population was
moving towards a more modern style of patterned outfits and brighter colors, while the hippies wore
their baggy clothes made of natural products like hemp. As time went on, more and more people
began to break away from society s belief on how the population should act, especially the young
adults. In 1968, scientist Lewis Yablonsky published a book where he stated about 400,000 people
were members of the counterculture movement. The Vietnam War showed the crack which was the
generation gap. Parents wanted young men going to fight for the country and believed it was their son

themselves. These young people publicly disapproved of the war. Hippie people who participated in
the movement believed they should live their lives according to what they wanted and had a if it feels

embraced new ideas on life and tried to find a bigger meaning. Their general ideas were love, personal

Exclusive Breastfeeding And Infant Mortality
Exclusive Breastfeeding and Infant Mortality: If We Nudge, Will Mothers Budge?
Section I: Introduction
West Africa has the highest infant mortality rate in the world for every 1000 live births, 70 children
die before their first birthday (Wang, 2014). National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per
1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the
leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26
percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and
HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily
reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate
women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population
health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved
child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births
to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has
also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant
mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age
structure and stimulate increased female labor

Sunshine Noodles And Me Analysis
In 2015, almost everyone has experienced cancer taking the life of a loved one, or watched a family
member or friend struggle with the infamous disease. Throughout the country, there are several
memorials and holidays that remember cancer survivors and their journey to fight their sickness.
June 23 is the national holiday raising awareness to breast cancer, and the color pink the official hue
for breast cancer awareness. On Tuesday KLCS TV PBS Los Angeles will honor victims and
survivors of cancer with the début of the personal and heartfelt film Sunshine, Noodles and Me.
The documentary film follows a woman s tireless effort to get well day to day and, captures her
miraculous survival to beat the sickness. The feature is more than a story about someone living with
cancer and making doctor s visits but gives a playbook on how to overcome the days when you feel
like you might not have anything left to give. Sunshine, Noodles and Me, resonates not only with the
sick and shut in but also helps those family and friends that need moral support to see their love ones

Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis ( Hp ) Is An Inflammatory...
Abstract Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), also known as extrinsic allergic alveolitis, is an
inflammatory lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and
presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles. It is traditionally classified into
acute, subacute and chronic forms, but the criteria for such classification are often unclear. Immune
complexes and lymphocytes mediate the inflammatory process of HP, which leads to high cell count
in bronchoalveolar lavage. The risk factors of HP are not completely clear, but both genes and
environment are probably involved in the initiation of HP. Removal of antigens is the best way to
prevent and manage HP. Finally two common forms of occupational HP, metalworking fluid induced
HP and hot tub lung, are reviewed. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an inflammatory lung disease
that is sometimes called extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Considering the disease also affects bronchioles,
however, the name of HP seems more accurate and universally accepted (Quirce et al., 2016). HP, of
which farmer s lung was the earliest discovered, is induced by repeated inhalation of antigens in the
sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles (Chmelik
et al., 1974; Johansson et al., 2001). However, this kind of allergic response is NOT IgE mediated as
in the case of many allergic diseases. It should be borne in mind as the discussion of HP

The Expense of Owning a Horse
Horses are expensive animals to have around and knowing exactly how expensive before you rush out
and buy one is imperative. Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase price.
Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the type and
breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he s had and how
experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather than a
trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers often
advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy and sell websites. If you re
inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An
experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems
to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a vet
will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the better
reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being too
expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a
beginner s horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one to
ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. Unfortunately people also sell horses for

The social learning theory proposed by Albert Bandura has...
The social learning theory proposed by Albert Bandura has become one of the most influential
theories of learning and behaviour. The theory added a social element, arguing that people can learn
new information and behaviors by watching other people. Known as social learning theory or
modeling, this type of learning can be used to explain a wide variety of behaviors. The social learning
theory does not explain all learning and behaviour, it fails to account for biological and innate
behaviours such as breathing, sucking and crying. People do not imitate all that they observe they stop
and think about the costs and benefits. Certain behaviours are learned through classical and operant
conditioning. In this essay the writer will discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next is the idea that mental states are important to learning. Bandura (1977) notes that external
environmental reinforcement is not the only factor that influence learning and behavior. He describes
intrinsic reinforcement as a form of internal reward, such as pride, satisfaction, and a sense of
accomplishment (Bandura, 1977). The emphasis on internal thoughts and cognitions assists connect
learning theories to cognitive developmental theories. Finally, learning does not necessarily lead to a
change in behaviour. While behaviorists believe that learning led to a permanent change in behavior,
observational learning demonstrates that people can learn new information without demonstrating new
behaviors (Worthman Loftus, 1998).
Not all observed behaviors are effectively learned. Factors involving both the model and the learner
can play a role in whether social learning is successful. Certain requirements and steps must also be
followed. Attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation are steps involved in observational
learning and modeling process. In order to learn, the learner needs to be pay attention. Anything that
detracts the attention of the learner is going to have a negative impact on observational learning. If the
model is interesting or there is a novel aspect to the situation, the learner is far more likely to give his
full attention to learning. Retention is the ability to store and

The Effects Of Immune System On The Body
Immunity
MersihaFrlj
Herzing University, Minneapolis MN
The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body
protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune
system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and
pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune
system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells,
we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells present it
can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ... Show more

Essay about Nuclear Energy
When most people think of a nuclear threat, they think of a nuclear attack from a
foreign nation. In reality, the largest nuclear threat comes not from foreign attack, but
from a much closer enemy: nuclear power. Nuclear power is very dangerous, and should
be done away with.
The nuclear age dawned in 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs
on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombing had at least two effects:
the Japanese surrender, bringing World War II to a swift end; and many people in the
United States, especially scientists and officials involved in the development of atomic
bombs, were awed, frightened and filled with guilt over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many
people see the existing form of nuclear power as unsafe technology with a potential for
catastrophe. There have been multiple examples of this throughout the history of nuclear
power including the Browns Ferry, Three Mile Island, and Chernobyl incidents.
A serious incident occurred at a nuclear power plant in 1975 as a result of a fire
started by a candle. On March 22, 1975, two large reactors at Browns Ferry, Alabama
were operating and generating 2,200 megawatts of electricity. Beneath the plant s control
center, electricians were trying to seal air leaks among the complex array of electrical
cables that made up the electrical system of the two reactors.(Stephens 15)
The leaks were being sealed by stuffing strips of polyurethane foam among the
cables. To test for air leaks, the electricians held a lighted candle near the plastic foam to
see whether the flame flickered. Some of the foam caught on fire. Three chemical
extinguishers failed to put it out. After fifteen minutes a fire alarm sounded. Meanwhile,
the fire was spreading and destroying cables that affect the plant s electrical systems
including the reactor s Emergency Core Cooling System. A small pump had to be used to
keep the fuel core covered with water to prevent a meltdown.(Stephens 17 19)

Bean, Inc. was started in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean to sell his invention of the Main Hunting shoe and was marketed to sports hunters via a mail order circular. Leon Gorman, L.L. s grandson, succeeded him as president in 1967, and continued to build the company with his Grandfather s golden rule in mind, Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like human beings, and they ll always come back for more (Schleifer, 1993). The company would continue to grow into a major catalog distributor, manufacturer, and retailer of outdoor sporting merchandise (Schleifer, 1993). The catalog has been the driving force of sales for L.L. Bean and is released throughout the year in several versions: spring, summer, fall, and Christmas. Full catalogs, consisting of all the available merchandise items offered were sent to regular customers. Potential customers, discovered through purchasing ... There is no consideration of the impact of applying this distribution is calculated with prior year new item data and applying it to current year new items, should be a major issue of concern for management. The demand forecast method should be able to help control inventory levels, Stuart Dunkin (2013) states, An inventory replenishment system that is based on a demand forecast (demand driven) can reduce the risk of lost sales while improving service. L.L. Bean s current inventory control does not control the risk of lost sales, Rol Fessenden, L.L. • 3. Will T. Snider s Essay Hey Daddy Hey Daddy argumentative essay by Will T Snider In the poem Hey Daddy (please come back) we know very little about Jesse s dad other than he has a son named Jesse and one day he left on a plane and didn t come back. Have you ever wondered what happened to Jesse Debenport s dad in Hey Daddy To answer this question, let s dive into the realm of speculation as to what happened to Jesse s dad. You will find that if you look between the lines you will find a convoluted answer to a simple question. So let s start with what we know about Mr. Debenport and try to conclude why he left. The information we know about Mr. Debenport is minute; we know he has a son, which means either he adopted or had a wife. According to the poem, .....The whole family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I mean I this situation wouldn t you be too? But there other people who believe different things about this poem many people claim he just had a divorce so here is why he didn t. The poem mentions the whole family is grieving key word here grieving. Yes a little sadness happens over a divorce but centrally not grieving, grieving is usually used in the context of death. But how did you come to the conclusion of 9/11 being the cause death of for the dad well as the intro stated this is just a speculation as to what happened to Jesse s dad not fact. So this leaves you with a basic answer that seems like a mad lib fill in the blank the dad died on (9/11). Though it s cheesy up until this though all other theories were to be turf and pithy stupid and nonsensical they were all death by plane crash, divorce, went missing and just left all of Theas are missing a why and how he either died or left. I m Shure you know the statement don t judge a book by its cover well with other hey daddy theories you can and they go along these lines uninteresting, cliché, thoughtless and heavy handedly written. We now know a tiny more about Jesse s dad and what happened to him. We can guess that Jesse was driven to depression after the death of his dad and chose to be an author. Jesse chose to be an author after his dad died on a business trip to New York. So to conclude we now see why this poem is so depressing at the end. Jesse s dad didn t leave he died on 9/11 on united airlines flight 175 when the plane hit the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reactions And Reactions Of Redox Reactions Introduction: Without the millions of chemical reactions that occur every day, life would be completely different. An important class of common reactions includes those which involve the simultaneous transfer of electrons between chemicals, commonly referred to as redox reactions or oxidation reduction reactions. Redox reactions are whole reactions composed of two different half reactions known as oxidation (where electrons are lost) and reduction (where electrons are gained) (Chemguide, 2013). When there is an increase in the oxidation state, the reaction is oxidation; when there is a decrease, it is reduction. Oxidation cannot possibly occur without an affiliated reduction, and vice versa. Redox reactions are notated as such: Cu(s)  Cu2+ + 2e In the half reaction above, a copper ion (with a plus 2 charge) is formed from the oxidation of solid copper (with no charge). The e in the equation is an electron which is free to reduce other chemical atoms, such as in the half reaction: 2Ag+(aq) + 2e  2Ag(s) Two electrons are added to the two silver ions in this half reaction, in order to produce a solid silver. These two half reactions can be combined to form a redox equation as follows: Cu(s)  Cu2+(aq) + 2e 2 Ag+(aq) + 2e  2Ag(s) Cu(s) + 2Ag+(aq) + 2e  Cu2+(aq) + 2Ag(s) + 2e OR Cu(s) + 2Ag+(aq)  Cu2+(aq) + 2Ag(s) A ... • 5. The Snows Of Kilimanjaro And The Big Two Hearted River This research paper will analyze style and theme in two of Ernest Hemingway s short stories, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Big Two Hearted River, and two novels, The Sun Also Rises and Green Hills of Africa.1 The Snows of Kilimanjaro is about an author named Harry, who is lying on the African plain and dying of gangrene. The Big Two Hearted River is about an ex World War I soldier, Nick, who is trying to put his life back together after the war. Similarly, The Sun Also Rises involves an ex soldier who is coping with a personal injury and seeks love with a woman named Brett Ashley. Lastly, Green Hills of Africa, is a non fiction story about Hemingway hunting in Africa. Hemingway visited Africa in 1923. This is the only book that is completely autobiographical. In the four works reviewed, Ernest Hemingway has two themes, one about the self and another about his interpretation of a hero, and uses several techniques such as symbolism, first person narrative, and ambiguity that define his style of writing. Analysis of all of Hemingway s prose reveals many themes. Two themes though stand out in the four works reviewed for this paper. One of them is that the main character (usually the hero) must assert the self, has a fear of failure, and attacks those things which threaten the successful assertion of the self. Assertion of the self in the stories usually takes the form of the assertion of the masculine principle. In Green, Hemingway exerts his masculinity by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Black Stereotypes Of Modern Media Angelique AJ Gordon ETHN 3400 Essay Assignment 1 Anti Black Stereotypes in Modern Media Stereotypes are defined as an oversimplified image or idea about a specific type of person. It is believed that stereotypes about African Americans began in the United States around the 18th century. Anti Black stereotypes arguably the most developed racist stereotypes in racial framing and have been used as foundations for the capture, enslavement, and later, the subjugation of African American people. Stating that stereotypes are just a joke is an understatement of the consequential after math racial images and stereotypes have on the African American population. Even stereotypes that are considered positive are often concealed with negative implications and reasons as to why they exist. Most people may think they only hold stereotypes in the back of their head, but studies show that people are more likely to fall back on them in making judgments when they feel challenged, face uncertainty, or experience sensory overload. Using information from class, comparisons from the films we have watched and Ed Guerrero s Framing Blackness, this paper will analyze the stereotypes in the television show Empire. Empire is an American soap opera drama created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. The summary of the show is that hip hop mogul turned CEO Dwight Walker, better known to the public as Lucious Lyon, has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when his music company, ... • 7. Effects Of Lower Oil Prices On Canada s Economic Activity Literature Review Effects of Lower Oil Prices on Canada s Economic Activity Consumer Price Index Falling oil prices leads to a fall in the price of gasoline which is derived from oil. Subsequently, consumption of gasoline rises as Canadians benefit from lower oil prices. In fact, The Conference Board of Canada (Bernard 2015)estimates that the average household would save close to $1000 in 2015. This has a direct impact on the Canadian total CPI basket in which gasoline account for about 5% of total CPI (Bartlett 2014). # (Bernard 2015) Although lower gasoline and consumer prices should help lift purchasing power and sustain real household spending, it likely won t be enough to counter the trend of easing growth in household spending in Canada. Soft employment growth, weak wage gains, the high level of household debt, easing real estate markets, and the threat of job losses in oil rich provinces will combine to take some of the steam out of real consumer spending in 2015 even as overall inflation falls to just 1.2 per cent. Terms of Trade (ratio of export prices to import prices) The value of the Canadian dollar tends to moves in tandem with oil prices so as oil prices have been falling recently, so has the value of the Canadian dollar. A depreciation of the Canadian dollar makes Canadian exports relatively more competitive in the world market however, as Canadian exports become cheaper relative to its imports, this negatively affects the Canadian terms of trade. • 9. An Analysis Of Dog s Death, By John Updike Dog s Death The poem, Dog s Death, written by John Updike brings the reader through a sentimental and heart wrenching journey, with the life gone too soon, of a beautiful puppy that passes away from a traumatic injury. The poem does not reveal the owner of the puppy, but we do know that the narrator is a man, a father, and a husband when Updike states, Monday morning, as the children were noisily fed and I stroked her warm fur / And my wife (592). The owner could be Updike or someone else. He allows the reader to share in the family s grief and heartbreak in the loss of their beloved puppy. Updike lets the reader know that if love could have saved her she had more than enough love from her family to have kept her alive. The feelings and emotions for the puppy show the bond that is formed between animals and their families. Updike s words are chosen to bring the reader into the emotions surrounding his poem and, in addition, his use of symbolism guides the reader through a much deeper meaning. For example, the word choice that he uses for the following line brings the reader to a very sorrowful place in his poem when he states, And her heart was learning to lie down forever (592) after an autopsy determined that his puppy has a ruptured liver. The poem line hints at the deeper meaning to show a dog command, lie down , that he used while training her. She is still learning and worthy of the words, Good Dog! even in death. Critics call Emily Dickinson s poem a masterpiece with strange haunting power. In Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop for Death, there is much impression in the tone, in symbols, and in the use of imagery that exudes creativity. One might undoubtedly agree to an eerie, haunting, if not frightening, tone in Dickinson s poem. Dickinson uses controlling adjectives slowly and passed to create a tone that seems rather placid. Death slowly takes the readers on a sight seeing trip where they see the stages of life. The first site We passed was the School, where Children strove (9). In addition, at recess, the children performed a venerable ritual, perhaps known to all, in a ring. This ritual is called Ring a ring a roses, and is recited: Ring a ring a roses, A pocket full of posies; Hush! hush! hush! hush! We re all tumbled down. Today s society has become acquainted with the violence in video games, tv shows, movies, and music since it is everywhere but many have become too attached to this violence and brought it to real life. Many assume that getting rid of this violence is essential to a more passive and peaceful society but there are more benefits to the portail of violence that society sees today. One of the key items that people assume that is the reason children of this society are more violent, is video games but they started as all things do, a harmless activity for fun. The first videogame was Pong and that was considered a fun game for everyone then to the game, Dungeons and Dragons, which had actual text and story and so on and after one of the most famous games, Legend of Zelda, games started to become more action packed and violent. Every game after Legend of Zelda started to become more violent, longer stories and better graphics in the 1980 s but when it hit the 1990 s, games started to become more 3 D and realistic. • 13. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Internal Hiring Firstly, internal hiring can be better explained in the situation where an employer carries out staff s assessment to find out if among his or her current staff there is one or a few who are adequately qualified or skilled to take on the job vacancies that need to be occupied. When a company or a firm decides to engage in internal hiring, a current member of staff may be reallocated new roles by being offered an internal transfer or a promotion. An internal promotion is a process where an employer recognizes by identification of staffs that display high potential and are performing better than others (Bauer Bender, 2004 p. 273). Ideally, job vacancies that are filled using internal promotions are never made public hence other staffs don t get an opportunity to make applications. Strategies of internal hiring are used when firms choose to give their employees promotions in the firm to take up vacancies positions or even new position in the organization. A good number of organizations even make the employees aware on a possible vacancy in the organization by use of fliers, emails, or notice boards. This form of hiring helps the organization retain employees who are talented with anticipation of future job promotions. Internal hiring has both advantages and disadvantages as discussed below (Fernandez, Abraham, 2011). • 14. Differences Between Troy And The Iliad As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no doubt that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple works of art over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy, which attempts to make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern audience at the same time. In this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of time spans, intended audiences, portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources and conveyed messages. One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a Trojan war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year of the siege of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of the Achaean army. Homer doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the Trojan War was well known to the Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for numerous times and the general plot was still fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his audience about the war as a whole, but rather spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ... The Characteristics Of Narcissism INTRODUCTION Being attractive is a mandatory virtue for any individual, considering the fact that the media today heavily influences us to an extent that certain physical features are fantasized to devalue those of other physiques. As subjective as it is, the perception of beauty is a controversial phenomenon. Dionne and Davis (2012) believed that personality is a lens through which this view [perception of beauty] is filtered and this lens of personality can also serve to bias the judgments we make about body size and shape and the consequences of these judgments on self worth (italics added). Narcissism To what owes such judgment on this particular subject lies rather under one s personality. Iago is willing to sacrifice all the honor that is and could ever be associated with his name just for the idea of Othello s downfall. The audience can conclude that Iago simply enjoys the idea of hurting others. He is flattered by how manipulative and sneaky he is, and often times throughout the play, he will have an aside speech where he tells the audience just what he has done and what it will lead to. Iago s character is very diverse, yet simple at the same time. He enjoys the art of evil and seeing others suffer. This contributes a great deal to the play because once it is evident to the audience that there is not much standing in the way between Iago and evil, it is understood that he will not stop until he feels that he has got his revenge. It can also be understood that in order for Iago to feel truly satisfied, there will need to be pain and harm towards Othello, and perhaps even Cassio. Many methods have been developed to help stop animal testing, and improve the health system of all human beings. To cope with this, he created a friend for himself, helping him keep his sanity and to be less lonely. At times, he lost motivation, and he almost gave up. Noland learned how to get food, clean water, and make a shelter in the four years he was on the island, fulfilling his basic needs . Ultimately, the main reason he almost died multiple times while marooned was because he was alone. Love and belongingness needs are one of the most important needs for human survival because without human interaction, one could lose their sanity, motivation, and can become lonely. Some people who follow Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs believe that the basic needs are the most important needs. Seeing as how the basic needs include food, water, and rest, this makes sense. Without those essentials, one will die. In the book The Clay Marble by Minfong Ho, in chapter nine, a young refugee named Dara is walking back to her campsite after being separated from her family. I noticed an old man looking at me curiously. He was sitting with his own family, holding a plate of cold rice. I looked at it hungrily, but could not bring myself to ask for any food. Dara is rejecting asking for food, and yet the only reason she is there in the first place is to find her family. • 24. How Violent Media Affects Children There is a very important social issue that must be addressed to save our future generations from decline. The social issue I will be analyzing is how violence in media affects children. Thus brutality itself becomes at once the means to success and the content of success a success that is defined in its most general terms, not as accomplishment or specific gain, but simply as the unlimited possibility of aggression (Warshow 433). Doing evil deeds to reach a certain level of success is how a gangster reaches success and this perception of bad being good clouds children s judgement to do the right thing. Children are wrongly influenced by many mediums including drug abuse in movies, anger management and video game violence. Violence in media affects children in a negative way by influencing them to use drugs, become bullies and mature into abusive adults because it gives people a false sense of reality towards violent behavior. The main reason is how children use violence to stand out in a negative way among other Children. Using violence to fit in with a group of people by doing drugs or being a bully towards others is a very common example. Many groups use peer pressure to appeal to the crowd. Using drugs has attracted many people to groups that deal drugs or promote the usage of drugs. • 26. The Change Process Essay At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather information from the lower level management up to the top level management. Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found in Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous amount of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since Ghosn provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid confusions, and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also engaged people being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which had the challenge to identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication strategy (at least based on the case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306). Plamer et al. • 27. What s That Smell In The Kitchen Analysis Anyone can make a large difference by the smallest act. Many authors find ways to use their writing to help make a large difference in the world. Marge Piercy does this in her poem What s That Smell in the Kitchen? This poem was used to help boost the feminist movement for equality. Her poem engulfs the idea that one small act can help to make a large difference in the feminist movement, and she does this using several poetic techniques. Piercy s poem was written in 1982, when many women were still homemakers, or they not only worked but did all the household chores. This was not equality, women should not be forced to cook and clean because their husband does not want to. She should not have to fake a smile when feeding her family because that is what society thinks is correct. Piercy claims: All over America women are burning/ food they re supposed to bring with calico/ smile[s] on platters glittering like wax (ll. 6 8). This may be a bit extreme, but instead of cooking her husband, the speaker could instead burn dinner. The one small act that women could make to defy society s expectation of themselves in Piercy s eye seems to be: Burning dinner (l. 22). Hardly anyone likes to eat burnt food, but if that food is being burnt because the speaker is unhappy with her life, she is using it as a silent weapon to prove that she can make her husband s life just as miserable as her ... After the conformity and fear that controlled people in the 1950s, many people began breaking loose and acting out in ways never seen before. The 1950s brought the severe threat of nuclear war and fear of communism which caused extreme conformity. However, with the onset of the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War certain people were extremely determined to change the views of the world and stand up for what they believed in. Hippie people who participated in the movement believed they should live their lives according to what they wanted and had a if it feels good, do it attitude. • 30. Exclusive Breastfeeding And Infant Mortality Exclusive Breastfeeding and Infant Mortality: If We Nudge, Will Mothers Budge? Section I: Introduction West Africa has the highest infant mortality rate in the world for every 1000 live births, 70 children die before their first birthday (Wang, 2014). National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per 1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26 percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age structure and stimulate increased female labor ... • 34. Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis ( Hp ) Is An Inflammatory... Abstract Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), also known as extrinsic allergic alveolitis, is an inflammatory lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles. It is traditionally classified into acute, subacute and chronic forms, but the criteria for such classification are often unclear. Immune complexes and lymphocytes mediate the inflammatory process of HP, which leads to high cell count in bronchoalveolar lavage. The risk factors of HP are not completely clear, but both genes and environment are probably involved in the initiation of HP. Removal of antigens is the best way to prevent and manage HP. Finally two common forms of occupational HP, metalworking fluid induced HP and hot tub lung, are reviewed. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an inflammatory lung disease that is sometimes called extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Considering the disease also affects bronchioles, however, the name of HP seems more accurate and universally accepted (Quirce et al., 2016). HP, of which farmer s lung was the earliest discovered, is induced by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles (Chmelik et al., 1974; Johansson et al., 2001). Usually the cheaper part of getting a horse is the actual purchase price. Horses can cost anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of pounds depending on the type and breed of the horse, the age, who is selling the horse and why, how much training he s had and how experienced he is. Buying a horse from a private seller Buying from a private seller rather than a trainer, breeder or dealer can be a way to get a good deal and save money. Private sellers often advertise in newspapers, on bulletin boards of tack stores or on buy and sell websites. If you re inexperienced with horses be sure to bring along someone you trust when seeing a horse. An experienced horseperson will be able to tell if the animal is good for you and whether or not it seems to have any behavioural problems. If your expert feels the horse is sound and good for you, then a vet will determine if the animal is health and suitable for what you want to use it for. Some of the better reasons private owners sell their horses are a change in finances resulting in the horse being too expensive to keep, moving and not being able to take the horse with them, wanting to replace a beginner s horse with a seasoned show animal, children moving out of the house and leaving no one to ride the horse or just generally losing interest in the hobby. The theory added a social element, arguing that people can learn new information and behaviors by watching other people. Known as social learning theory or modeling, this type of learning can be used to explain a wide variety of behaviors. The social learning theory does not explain all learning and behaviour, it fails to account for biological and innate behaviours such as breathing, sucking and crying. Bandura (1977) notes that external environmental reinforcement is not the only factor that influence learning and behavior. He describes intrinsic reinforcement as a form of internal reward, such as pride, satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment (Bandura, 1977). The emphasis on internal thoughts and cognitions assists connect learning theories to cognitive developmental theories. Finally, learning does not necessarily lead to a change in behaviour. While behaviorists believe that learning led to a permanent change in behavior, observational learning demonstrates that people can learn new information without demonstrating new behaviors (Worthman Loftus, 1998). Not all observed behaviors are effectively learned. Factors involving both the model and the learner can play a role in whether social learning is successful. Certain requirements and steps must also be followed. Attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation are steps involved in observational learning and modeling process. In order to learn, the learner needs to be pay attention. Anything that detracts the attention of the learner is going to have a negative impact on observational learning. The Effects Of Immune System On The Body Immunity MersihaFrlj Herzing University, Minneapolis MN The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells, we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013).
