Traditionally, small gifts like chocolate coins, homemade sweets, and toys were placed in Christmas stockings. Stockings originated from the tradition of children in England hanging their stockings near the fireplace on Christmas Eve in anticipation of gifts from Father Christmas. The history of the Christmas stocking dates back to 1823 when Clement Clarke Moore wrote "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" describing stockings hung near the fireplace awaiting gifts from Santa Claus. Instructions are provided on how to make a felt Christmas stocking including cutting out the stocking shape, gluing the sides together, adding a white felt trim, and decorating.

10 signs Christmas is coming
1. Cold weather and snow arrive, signaling that Christmas is coming. Stores and homes begin putting up twinkly lights to celebrate the season. Familiar Christmas songs play constantly, putting people in a festive mood.
2. People start their Christmas shopping, braving busy stores to find gifts. Parents stock up on non-perishable food and supplies in case of winter weather. Advent calendars are opened, often with all the chocolate consumed quickly.
3. Dogs are dressed up in cute Christmas costumes, which many people enjoy. Parties and festive gatherings increase alcohol consumption. Finally, families enjoy their traditional Christmas dinner featuring turkey and all the trimmings.
Reading Rally (3-5)

Silly Willy's Christmas Adventure
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all the little rabbits were nestled all snug in their beds, with thoughts of dolls dancing in their heads. All the rabbits, except Silly Willy, who was about to see Santa slip on a banana peel, break all his sisters' toys and learn about the real meaning of Christmas.
I wrote the story for my kids many years ago and now that they're old enough, I was even able to cajole them into illustrating it. I hope you enjoy it.

AROUSING INTEREST Something I’ll never forget is when … One of the weirdest things that happened to me was … I had the funniest/ most embarrassing experience when … You won’t believe what happened to me on my last holiday … ETC. One of the funniest Christmas ever was when Phil Delphy suggested celebrating Christmas as a family on 16th December.
- 4. 2. SETTING THE SCENE Main character Where When Who with Others They were just delighted at the thought of it. All of a sudden, he had organized everything: - Mitchell, Alex and Lily would pick up the Christmas tree. - Gloria and Luke would be in charge of the Christmas Angel. They had arranged to drop by his house at 6:00 to celebrate Christmas.
- 5. 3. THE MAIN POINT What Focus on the story When Mitchell was ready to leave the garden centre with the Christmas tree loosely tied on the top of his car, a car passed by. Obviously he panicked and hit the brakes. Unluckily enough, the Christmas tree flew off the top of the car and to their surprise a silver car ran over the Christmas tree and split it in two. Gloria was driving the car.
- 6. 4. AT THE END AND REACTIONS DEVELOPMENT OF DRAMA It was a nightmare/ so embarrassing/ really funny. I was petrified/ speechless. Others. What a scene! Mitchell and Alex where speechless. They couldn’t believe their eyes. Anyway, they decided to collect the pieces of the Christmas tree and tell everybody about the incident.

STORY TO THE PRESENT CONCLUSION When I think about it I still feel embarrassed/ I feel like laughing … I’ll never forget it because … Others I’ll never forget it, because despite arriving home with fallen pieces of a Christmas tree, they had the best Christmas ever. Jay Pritchett had planned to surprise them with artificial snow in their yard.
