The Study of Honor in the Renaissance Period
The study of honor in Renaissance cities presents an intriguing paradox. On the one hand, honor
seemed more dear than life itself , and provided one of the essential values that shaped the daily lives
of urban elites and ordinary city folk. For wealthy merchants and aspiring artisans, honor established a
code of accepted conduct against which an individual s actions were measured by his or her peers,
subordinates and social superiors. Possessing honor helped to locate a person in the social hierarchy
and endowed one with a sense of personal worth. The culture of honor, which originated with the
medieval aristocracy, directed the everyday activities of urban dwellers of virtually all social groups
from at least the fourteenth century on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wide array of ritual behaviors in word and deed reveals both the creativity of those who had
different lines of access to honor resources, as well as the conditionality of the code of honor itself.
Rituals marked important sites for the creation of gender identity. Ritual activities provided the stage
settings for women and men to carry out socially appropriate behaviors marking key points along the
moving edge of their life course. In the process, rituals posited a set of gender expectations that were
complicated by the realities of everyday life, for ritual practices embodying definitions of masculinity
and femininity were alive to other variables such as age, class, personal circumstances, or changing
political relationships. Men and women constructed both each other s honor and gender identity by
means of a complicated network of oppositions and dependencies . Shows a view of gender constructs
alongside the practical relationships and tasks that bound men and women together.
Three types of ritual activity inflected the relationship between gender and honor in different ways and
involved different sets of participants. Honor was gendered in rites of passage rooted in kinship,
specifically nuptial rites events that helped anchor a family s reputation in the

Essay on I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a depiction of a mother daughter relationship that lacks
involvement and warmth. The whole story composed of the mother s memory of her relationship with
her daughter, Emily. The memory was a painful one comprised mostly of the way the mother was
much less able to care for Emily. The forsaken of Emily demonstrates the importance of physical and
emotional support.
The mother was an invisible parent for Emily. Her reason for not being there for Emily was because
she was a young and distracted mother (Olsen 262). The real reason she was inattentive was because
she was inexperienced. She lacks the understanding of how essential it is to be there physically for
Emily. Emily needed her mother for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotional support also plays an important role of Emily s well being. The idea mother suppose to
care, support, and value their children needs. Emily needed this nourishment. She needed her mother
to smile at her in order for her to feel a connection with the person that she supposed to be able to
depend on. Emily s mother did not know how to communicate with Emily. The mother daughter
relationship has an element of coldness, it lacks warmth. There were years she did not want me to
touch her (Olsen 262). Emily s mother inability to interact with her, leaves Emily unloved and in
return, she shall not express any love toward her mother. Emily s mother feels her wisdom came too
late (Olsen 262). With this thought in mind, Emily s mother shall never show communication or love
to Emily, therefore the relationship shall continue to be doomed.
Emily s mother felt like she was forced to neglect Emily. Her excuse was that the time was hard, it
was the age of depression, of war, of fear (Olsen 262). Although things were not under Emily s mother
s control, she takes responsibility anyway. In society, parents are thought to provide physical and
emotional support so that their children can advance through life with prosperity. This paper is the

Comparing Hesse s Siddhartha And Kallu
In the novel Siddhartha, there were many symbols and connection that gave the readers more insights
in the novel. Throughout the story, themes of the novel were thoughtful and life experience. There
were many significant themes that were similar between Siddhartha and short story Kallu . A
significant connection that stood out in Siddhartha and Kallu was the sacrifice of each story. This
stood out the most because both the story line characters sacrifice the most in their stories. In the
artwork, the picture illustrates a man raising his arms up sacrificing his life for what he knew was right
for him and society. Neighbors were looking around and saw what he was doing to himself. The
picture also shows that once he reached his goal everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Siddhartha, shows sacrifices that he did before he became a shramana. When his father didn t
accept the fact that his son would leave his caste to find enlightenment, Siddhartha said to him Will
you stand and wait like that forever, until it is the day, noon, and evening? I will stand and wait .(11).
Siddhartha demonstrated and proved to his father that he was willing to wait for his father to accept
him to find enlightenment. This also proves that Siddhartha was willing to sacrifice growing old and
dying just to make himself happy, but also sacrificing the relationship he had with his father.
Siddhartha showed that after he left, instructed by the eldest of the shramanas, Siddhartha practiced
moving away from the self, practice meditation, ... (14). He knew that he would never come back and
that from that point he was focused and dedicated toward his goal. In the short story Kallu, the main

Lenin s Legacy Of The Soviet Revolution
Lenin s Legacy
History will not forgive Revolutionaries for procrastinating when they could be victorious today, while
they risk losing much tomorrow, in fact, they risk losing everything (Vladimir Lenin. Call to Power).
Lenin was a persistent Russian ruler who wished to instill his communist views in Russian society at
all costs. He was influential in motivating his followers to rise up and overthrow Russia s weak
government which lead to the reformation of Russia s weak economy. Although Lenin faced opposing
forces from the West, he was able to institute a number of reforms which boosted Russia s broken
economy and led to the transformation of Russia from a war struck country into an economically
stable power, prior to his death.
Prior to Lenin coming into power, Russia s corrupt government was stuck in a state of war with
Germany along with other Western European powers which ultimately led to the revolts of angry
Russians due to famine and political issues. The Russo Japanese war began the first Russian
revolution in 1905 when Russia suffered a tragic loss on the battlefield (Vladimir Lenin. World
History). The Russian loss to Japan forced the government to give up on its expansionist policy
resulting in the government losing its followers. This was the most devastating defeat Russia has ever
faced to a non European force and proved Czar Nicholas unfit to rule the nation. To restore order
within the society, Czar Nicholas instituted the October Manifesto, which

Sports Injury Litigation
Parent s Top Concerns for Potential Sports Injury Litigation
There are few things more intertwined than sports, and American s love of watching and playing
sports. This dynamic is a fundamental part of who we are as a nation. Unfortunately, like anything else
in life, there is a real possibility of being injured while playing sports, or watching sports as a
spectator.
However, determining who is responsible for sports injuries can be a difficult process given the nature
of sports and its inherent unpredictability. Most injuries to participants or bystanders are simply bad

A New Class of Football Injury: Abdominal Injuries
It is not just concussions that atheletes and their families should be concerned about. Many high

Pseudo Myopi The Refractive Anomaly Of The Eye
INTRODUCTION
Myopia is the refractive anomaly of the eye in which close objects appears clearly, while objects far
away appear blurry. With myopia, light comes to focus in front of the retina instead of on the retina
Myopia is the major refractive error having a worldwide prevalence of 1.5 billion. Children with
Myopia feel difficulties in viewing blackboard in school; they avoid outdoor activities and get isolated
from the peer groups. Untreated myopia may lead to Macular degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataract,
Retinal detachment.
Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea (the clear front cover of the eye) is too curved.
As a result, the light entering the eye isn t focused correctly, and distant objects look blurred. Even

3. Pseudo myopia
Pseudo myopia is the result of an increase in ocular refractive power due to overstimulation of the eye
s accommodative mechanism or ciliary spasm. The condition is so named because the patient only
appears to have myopia due to an inappropriate accommodative response.
4. Degenerative Myopia
A high degree of myopia associated with degenerative changes in the posterior segment of the eye is
known as degenerative or pathological myopia. The degenerative changes can result in abnormal
visual function, such as a decrease in best corrected visual acuity or changes in visual fields. Sequelae
such as retinal detachment and glaucoma are relatively common.

The Creation Of Discourses Throughout Media
The creation of discourses throughout media is presumably why most Americans feel the way they do
about certain migrants and their cultures. Discourses are the illusions created by actions within media
to create a certain bias. They are seen throughout all global media, not just immigration. However,
immigration is a hot topic in our society today. Transnationalists, migrants, and refugees are all terms
relative to the subject. Media today has changed these terms and coined phrases such as illegal aliens
and other explicit terms defining people. Our country was built on migrants coming here for a better
life, yet today, new migrants are considered illegal and taking Americans jobs. Chavez s excerpt
explains discourses several decades ago. Today, we face relative discourses throughout media,
especially with our current republican candidates for the next election. Mentioned in Chavez s,
Covering Immigration the Statue of Liberty plays a significant role in American views toward
immigration. From the 1970 s to 90 s, the Statue of Liberty is seen on thirteen separate magazine
covers. According to polls, 57% picked the statue as their favorite national icon. In the fall of 2015,
Time released a magazine covering of the Statue showing a dirty hand, relaying the message, Who
gets to be an American again? This image reflects discourses of a broken society, in which we have to
become an American again.
The underlying message here is that our national symbol of freedom

Fatalism and Determinism
The way in which life is viewed can change the way in which one reacts to scenarios and interacts
with other beings. Although I do not think simply learning philosophy can change the way I live, I
know that learning and exploring deeper into specific philosophies can completely alter my outlook on
life. Life is a particular type or aspect of people s existence and all beings are living this life as far as
we know. The question I often find myself asking is whether or not we are the ones making our own
choices, living life as we so choose, with no free will at all (determinism), or with our fate set out for
us (fatalism). I would like to believe I am in charge of making my own choices and everything is
either luck of the draw or things come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the fact that the events that will take place in my life are destined to occur one way or another,
it makes me rethink certain aspects of my own life. My entire outlook on life has changed based on
this one theory. My belief in God which was previously nonexistent has grown immensely because of
philosophy thus changing my outlook on life even more. If one is a believer in an omniscient being,
God, that person is fatalist. Taylor explains, To say that God is omniscient means that He knows
everything that is true. He cannot, of course, know that which is false, (Taylor, 57). If God exists and
knows all, then if God were to tell someone how, when, where they were going to die his answer
would have to be true. Therefore if God knows all that has happened, whether it is as minor as an ant
being born or as major as the end of the world, God knows all that is involved. One cannot believe in
God and not believe in fate because He knows all that will come in the future and that is what fate is.
However, a determinist will not believe in God, because of this fact. A determinist sees all the causes
of what has happened as random, independent events that have causes and effects. In the story of
Osmo, although he knows what future holds he still cannot avoid it. This story does not prove the
theory of fate, however, it gives an example of how it is unavoidable. A determinist will believe this
story because he knows what fate has set

Reasons why the US Must Not Adopt IFRS
Globalization has been changing the world. It has interconnected people, nations, and even businesses.
Today´s business can share information to investors around the world thanks to the intelligent
software of the actual society. Being more specific, the way in which investors and users evaluate
businesses performance is through the information contemplated in their financial statements. These
financial statements illustrate the current assets, liabilities, and stockholder equity a company has in
order to help users take economic decisions. However, not all the companies are regulated to provide
the same structuralized information around the world. Each country possesses its own accounting
standard that regulates the preparation of financial statements of a company. In that way, companies
information might differ between countries making the comparability between financial statements
difficult to be implemented by users in order to assess the performance of foreign businesses. In view
of the need of a globally accepted accounting standard that promotes uniform standards for worldwide
financial reporting, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), which then becomes
replaced by the International Accounting Standard Board in 2001, was created (Cathey and Schroeder

Unlike the British and American women, Indian women did not face great difficulty in securing

the Parliament and State Assemblies. According to the 1955 International Parliamentary Union

What s Behind Greed In The Book Of Sand By Joan Green
The famous Rolling Stones song, you can t always get what you want states, You can t always get
what you want, but if you try sometimes you find, you get what you need. The overall message is that
sometimes people do not question themselves: Is it a need, or is it a want? With many people in today
s society looking for the newest and most outstanding thing in the market, it is very hard to show the
fact that people may not need everything that they have or desire. Through a wide variety of
selections, the textbook Interface English, edited by Joan Green, demonstrates the effect human nature

Through greed, people always want more and are rarely satisfied with what they have. In a short story
The Book of Sand written by Jorge Luis Borges demonstrates how people are never truly content with
what they have and are always looking for the newest and best object. In the story, the main character
meets a man that offers him a book he has never seen before. This book is an endless book that has
page numbers that always change. The man desires the book so much, he offers the other man: The
full sum of [his] pension and Wyclif s bible (79). During this period, this was a lot to offer a man for
something that he did not know much about. This represents how greedy people genuinely are, and
how one would do anything to receive something new. Additionally, when people find issues with
what they have, they resort to something newer and better. For example, in the poem A Love of Old
Things written by Lesley Choyce, assesses the way people are when it comes to new versus old. The
poem states, And when they fail / Must be replaced / With something even newer. (9 11). Through
this, she talks about the fact that many humans find that when something breaks it must be replaced
with something newer, instead of fixing the old. This establishes the mindset that people have when it
comes to problem solving and finding new solutions. Overall, it is clear that greed is behind the push
for more due to the selfishness in humans and the way they think when a problem

A Study On Old Maria Luisa Nava

AP English Literature

Flee It was 18 years ago on October 28, 1996 at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Texas, where 22 year
old Maria Luisa Nava was as she was as she was almost 40 weeks pregnant and about to give birth to
her soon to be daughter. Maria Luisa is a small and reserved young woman. She is fairly the typical
Mexican woman that is apart of the thousands of illegal immigrants who are crossing the border
frequently to give birth to their babies in the United States of America. Maria Luisa had bigger things
in mind for her baby girl rather than living in a city where poverty is a major subject of matter.
Numerous days prior to her being at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, Maria Luisa was in her hometown,
Jaripo, Michoacán. It was a Sunday afternoon and Maria Luisa had just turned off the stove, where she
had just finished cooking the popular Mexican soup, menudo (as it is apart of the Mexican tradition to
cook and eat on Sundays). Her little brothers, Hector and Noe, had just turned on the 5 o clock news.
As Maria Luisa was pouring soup into 4 bowls for her mother, little brothers, and for herself, she
overheard that there is a rising problem occurring in the United States where pregnant mothers
(mainly) from Mexico and Canada, cross the border hoping to give birth in the United States, so their
newborn will be born an American citizen. Seconds later, Maria Luisa took this risky opportunity into
consideration, she then

Gender And Gender Socialization
Gender is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the behavioral, cultural, or psychological
traits typically associated with one sex (2017). Gender and the way we carry out gender have been
linked to many different terms to try to create a better understanding of why we have or do gender
accordingly to what was assigned at birth. Through the process of gender socialization, a plethora of
social norms and expectations are bestowed upon all individuals as early as when an embryo s sex is
determined. To further describe and understand the prevalence of gender and its socialization I spent a
night and a day with my little cousins Leah age 5 (Female) and Landon age 4 (Male). They are a part
of a biracial four family member household in which their dad works full time and is the sole earner of
resources and their mom is in school and works a part time job. I believe the structure of their family
is modeled as the typical American Family and as far as their family s classification in an economic
class, they would be considered Upper Middle class. After taking their economic class into
consideration I have realized that these children are and will be able to gain access to more resources
associated with gender than their lower classed counter parts. Not meaning that they will be more
aware of how their gender is supposed to act but they will have access more access to resources like
being able to obtain psychological help and education.

Examples Of Failure
Failure. The word reverberates in my head with each stride. Thud, failure. I turn my head and watch
helplessly as a runner in a black jersey and red shorts jets past me. Thud, failure. Why can t you move
faster? Thud, failure. How are they pulling away? Thud, failure. How is KADE almost behind you?
Thud, failure. Guilt pierces my chest with an icy blade and twists as my thoughts wash over me. How
could I let my team down? Failure resonates with every person. It seeps into our thoughts and draws
us into a place of doubt impairing our natural abilities and hard work. Yet failure is also what shapes
us and molds us into the people we are now. It bonds and unites every person together in a common
shared experience while also tearing us apart inside. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I let her down when she needed a friend. I wish that I could say that Krystle is the only relationship
that I have failed at, but she s just the tip of the iceberg. I have failed many people in my life and I ll
fail many more. I can t brush aside the memories of the people that I have failed. Like phantoms they
circle over me reminding me of my failures whenever the subject arises. I can t remember how many
races I have lost when I should have won, but I can still remember every person I have let down. It
would be a gross misrepresentation to classify both failures as the same. Each genre of failure has its
own series of effects unique to it. Reflecting on my life, I m struck by how much I still regret my
failures. Conceptually, I know that my failures had silver linings, yet I d still give anything to change
them. There is little solace in the knowledge that I won t fail the same way twice. The damage is done.

Romeo And Juliet Foil Characters
In Shakespeare s critically acclaimed play Romeo and Juliet, the Nurse and Lady Capulet are foil
characters. Shakespeare uses the Nurse and Lady Capulet to portray that the morals of a person, can
affect another person s actions. While Romeo and Juliet are planning their secret marriage, the Nurse
shows her easy going and caring personality by helping Romeo sneak into Juliet s room, something
that is highly forbidden. After the Nurse is finished teasing Juliet, the Nurse becomes serious again
and tells Juliet, Hie you to church; I must another way, to fetch a ladder, by the which your love must
climb a bird s nest soon when it is dark (II.v.71 73). The Nurse is telling Juliet that while Romeo and

Lady Capulet tells Juliet that she wishes that Juliet would be dead. Lady Capulet saying this shows her
strictness to not appreciate her daughter s view on marriage. The Nurse uses her easy going
personality to be laid back with Juliet and push her to elope with Romeo, Juliet carelessly takes her
advice. However, when Juliet tells Lady Capulet, she does not approve of it, showing her strictness.
Shakespeare s progression of the foil characters, the Nurse and Lady Capulet show that other people s
morals can affect another person s actions and confuse their own thoughts. The Nurse and Lady
Capulet both have different views on love and marriage. The two different views and morals confuse
Juliet s mind and makes the tragedy all the more tragic. The Nurse risked her life to help Juliet elope
with Romeo, by doing this, she is showing that she wants Juliet to follow her heart at all costs. The

Public Goods Game Experiment
Introduction
A public goods game is an experimental game where subjects choose the amount of money or tokens
they would like to place in a public pot. It is done so privately without anyone else knowing about it.
The amount is then multiplied equally by a factor, and it is then equally shared among the participants.
(Radoc, 2001) Although some players would have contributed less they are allowed to keep tokens or
money amounts they did not contribute. Peoples contributions are also heavily subjective what how
much their peers contribute, and also benchmarked upon previous contributions (Augenblick Cunha,
2014) We have conducted a small experiment in our student accommodation to test and see the
behavior of people in a natural setting.

This is where Hugh Finlay discovered the Empire motif and brought it back to America where with
John helped develop quickly a familiarity and comfort with the neoclassical idiom that was readily
apparent in the field. They became the first firm to readily advertise painted classical furniture with
great success. The trip to Europe and back by the Finlay brothers was one of the first Americans who
brought the Grecian Roman revival to the public. After the War of 1812, a sense of renewal of a better
time became a distinct interest to designers as well as the public. With the help of the Finlay brothers,
there was a civility and sophistication in the late neoclassical ideals (Greene, 122) that mirrored the
continued success of the newborn America. Thus from it grew the early empire style furniture in
America, which featured elegant and delicate furniture with waterleaf carving being one of the
favorite treatments like the Grecian couch. The Grecian style in which the Finlay brothers pulled from

simplicity till the emergence of the American empire style that pulled directly from it in the early
1800s. The height to the American Empire style furniture

Difference Between Wooden Motte And Bailey Castles
Because of a lack of a strong central government during feudal society, wars happened often. For
protection every noble built a castle. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman
Conquest in 1066. Wooden motte and bailey castles were the first type of castle to be built in England.
The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a
bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A
ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. The bailey was located at the bottom
of the motte and could be up to three acres. Followers of the lord who ran the castle lived inside the
bailey. There were many buildings in the bailey including bakeries, kitchens, houses, stables, and
living quarters for soldiers.
Motte and bailey castles were quick and easy to build. Some could even be finished in a couple of
weeks. However, wooden buildings caught on fire easily and stone structures were much stronger.
Because of this, motte and bailey castles were soon replaced with stone castles.

They had two or three walls around the keep. Because the inside walls were built higher than the

Even if an enemy broke though the outer walls, there was a second castle defended and with supplies
waiting for them. Known as the death hole, being trapped between two walls of a castle would result
in almost certain death for the attacker. Some concentric castles even had moats for more protection.
After the invention of gun powder concentric castles became even more popular because they could

Summary Of The Film Imperfekt Strangers
The film Imperfekt Strangers revolves around a pseudo Christian cult the Faith Community that is
based in Bloomington, Indiana. In the film, there are two Indiana University students who are
roommates with two members of the cult. This movie reflects from actual events that happened in the
1970s in Bloomington, Indiana. The pseudo Christian cult the Local Church that was held in
Bloomington was led by Witness Lee who tried to gain members through college students and others
around in the city ( Are ). Throughout the film, the two roommates who are part of the cult tries to
convince the other two roommates, Steve and Tyler to join the cult. However, tension builds up with
the cult members and the students when they would not convert and Steve s best friend Richie ends up
joining the Christian cult. Furthermore, Steve and Tyler end up worried and concerned around the
other roommates because their practices of following Christianity are eerie; they become
uncomfortable with the other followers who would also come to the house to preach. Likewise, Steve
and Tyler then confront their roommate Matty that they do not want to partake in the cult. At the end,
the two roommates Harold and Matty leaves Tyler and Steve. Due to the film being based on true
events, Matt Walls character Tyler is deemed to be the most believable character in the film and
convincing that all these events are naturally occurring on a day to day basis.
At first, Tyler is accepting of his roommates Harold

The Prisoner of War Ethic
Early on in the semester, I have found that Chapter 12 has been one of the more intriguing sections to
read. After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics that could relate
to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12; making it all the
more fitting that I end here as well.
Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This
chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international
borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over cultural
boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not reflect
back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I am
personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to extend
rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I believe.
One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this
dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers the
status of others exemplifies this dehumanization.
We have a tremendous capacity, to turn people into less than us, and once you do that, you can justify
a hell of a lot of awfulness. Greg Pirmann

Darwinism and Evolution
12 6 96
Evolution, the science of how populations of living organisms change over time in response to their
environment, is the central unifying theme in biology today. Evolution was first explored in its semi
modern form in Charles Darwin s
1859 book, Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection. In this book, Darwin laid out a strong
argument for evolution. He postulated that all species have a common ancestor from which they are
descended. As populations of species moved into new habitats and new parts of the world, they faced
different environmental conditions. Over time, these populations accumulated modifications, or
adaptations, that allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step in understand evolution in present terms is to mention genetic engineering (including
genetic drift). The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its possibilities for
society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history and method. The basis for altering the
evolutionary process is dependent on the understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics to
their offspring. Genetics achieved its first foothold on the secrets of nature s evolutionary process
when an Austrian monk named Gregor
Mendel developed the first laws of heredity. Using these laws, scientists studied the characteristics of
organisms for most of the next one hundred years following Mendel s discovery. These early studies
concluded that each organism has two sets of character determinants, or genes (Stableford 16). For
instance, in regards to eye color, a child could receive one set of genes from his father that were
encoded one blue, and the other brown. The same child could al so receive two brown genes from his
mother. The conclusion for this inheritance would be the child has a three in four chance of having
brown eyes, and a one in three chance of having blue eyes (Stableford 16). Genes are transmitted
through chromosomes which reside in the nucleus of every living organism s cells. Each chromosome
is made up of fine strands of deoxyribonucleic acids, or DNA. The information carried

North Dakota Pipeline Analysis
In North Dakota, oil is a great source of revenue. Since the oil boom, transporting that oil has been
done through pipelines as well as rail cars. Recently, the Dakota Access pipeline has attracted attention
from celebrities and other civilians that are not even residents of the Dakotas, such as Shailene
Woodley, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda, and Mark Ruffalo. Pipelines can be both efficient and
dangerous. The efficiency can be read in the ability to transport the oil to other states, while the danger
can be read in the environmental damage of an oil spill in a river that people depend on for water in
the case the Dakota Access pipeline could damage the Missouri River. No matter all the perks of a

Those for the pipeline say that it will help the economy, and that it will be much safer than
transporting crude oil through rail cars. North Dakota oil producers will also get more revenue as a
result. However, those against the pipeline say that even though it may be swell for the economy, it
will not be swell for the environment. The gases that will be released from burning those gases from
cars and other sources will help advance climate change, and is ultimately bad for the environment. If
the United States just went to completely renewable energy, we could slow down the process. Also, it
was planned that the pipeline be built and crossing under the Missouri River, which is the main water
source for millions of people. Native Americans of the area Sioux mainly also have sacred grounds
through where the pipeline was supposed to go through. The land was technically theirs in the treaty

According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, The moon landing hoax is the total lack
of stars in any of the photographic/video evidence. There are no clouds on the moon, so stars are
perpetually visible and significantly brighter than what we see through the filter of Earth s atmosphere
(Moon landings could be a hoax). According to Erin Ruberry, Washington, D.C. based writer and
editor specializing in digital media, The reason that the stars do not show up on the film is that the
stars are so dim that the camera cannot gather enough of their light in a short exposure. Our eyes are a
lot more sensitive to light than photographic film (Reason for no stars). Another reason from Brent
Sibly, author from def logic.com/cached source, The moon is a very bright whitish object, which
reflects the light from the sun as brightly as snow. Since the astronauts were constantly surrounded by
the bright reflecting surface of the moon, they were always brightly lit (We went to the moon). The
mythbusters proved that the astronauts and camera did not pick the stars by making similar dust to the
moon and shined light on the dust and it reflected brightly and the brighter the moon is the harder it is
to see the moon. And like what Erin Ruberry said the photographic lense could not pick up the stars

Although dueling was supposedly illegal, it still showed the chivalry and code of honor as there are
specific rules to the duel. Even with this being true, D artagnan was still in opposition with Milady
doing things just as bad as her actions in counter to hers. For example, in chapter thirty six Dream of
Vengeance, D artagnan has sexual contact with Milady but tricking her into thinking it s Comte de

his force of power and persuasion to get his way just as Milady de Winter does. Not only that, but
technically Milady de Winter is still married to Athos who although has a broken heart, still follows
the laws of the Church meaning that D artagnan had an affair knowingly. D artagnan being the main
character and hero in the novel does not justify behavior yet he is still considered the one who can be

For wealthy merchants and aspiring artisans, honor established a code of accepted conduct against which an individual s actions were measured by his or her peers, subordinates and social superiors. In the process, rituals posited a set of gender expectations that were complicated by the realities of everyday life, for ritual practices embodying definitions of masculinity and femininity were alive to other variables such as age, class, personal circumstances, or changing political relationships. The whole story composed of the mother s memory of her relationship with her daughter, Emily. The memory was a painful one comprised mostly of the way the mother was much less able to care for Emily. The forsaken of Emily demonstrates the importance of physical and emotional support. The mother was an invisible parent for Emily. Emotional support also plays an important role of Emily s well being. The idea mother suppose to care, support, and value their children needs. Emily needed this nourishment. The mother daughter relationship has an element of coldness, it lacks warmth. There were years she did not want me to touch her (Olsen 262). Emily s mother inability to interact with her, leaves Emily unloved and in return, she shall not express any love toward her mother. Emily s mother feels her wisdom came too late (Olsen 262). With this thought in mind, Emily s mother shall never show communication or love to Emily, therefore the relationship shall continue to be doomed. Emily s mother felt like she was forced to neglect Emily. Her excuse was that the time was hard, it was the age of depression, of war, of fear (Olsen 262). Lenin s Legacy Of The Soviet Revolution Lenin s Legacy History will not forgive Revolutionaries for procrastinating when they could be victorious today, while they risk losing much tomorrow, in fact, they risk losing everything (Vladimir Lenin. • 10. The Creation Of Discourses Throughout Media The creation of discourses throughout media is presumably why most Americans feel the way they do about certain migrants and their cultures. Discourses are the illusions created by actions within media to create a certain bias. They are seen throughout all global media, not just immigration. However, immigration is a hot topic in our society today. Transnationalists, migrants, and refugees are all terms relative to the subject. Media today has changed these terms and coined phrases such as illegal aliens and other explicit terms defining people. Our country was built on migrants coming here for a better life, yet today, new migrants are considered illegal and taking Americans jobs. Chavez s excerpt explains discourses several decades ago. Today, we face relative discourses throughout media, especially with our current republican candidates for the next election. Mentioned in Chavez s, Covering Immigration the Statue of Liberty plays a significant role in American views toward immigration. From the 1970 s to 90 s, the Statue of Liberty is seen on thirteen separate magazine covers. According to polls, 57% picked the statue as their favorite national icon. In the fall of 2015, Time released a magazine covering of the Statue showing a dirty hand, relaying the message, Who gets to be an American again? This image reflects discourses of a broken society, in which we have to become an American again. The underlying message here is that our national symbol of freedom ... • 11. Fatalism and Determinism The way in which life is viewed can change the way in which one reacts to scenarios and interacts with other beings. Although I do not think simply learning philosophy can change the way I live, I know that learning and exploring deeper into specific philosophies can completely alter my outlook on life. Life is a particular type or aspect of people s existence and all beings are living this life as far as we know. The question I often find myself asking is whether or not we are the ones making our own choices, living life as we so choose, with no free will at all (determinism), or with our fate set out for us (fatalism). Due to the fact that the events that will take place in my life are destined to occur one way or another, it makes me rethink certain aspects of my own life. My entire outlook on life has changed based on this one theory. My belief in God which was previously nonexistent has grown immensely because of philosophy thus changing my outlook on life even more. If one is a believer in an omniscient being, God, that person is fatalist. Taylor explains, To say that God is omniscient means that He knows everything that is true. He cannot, of course, know that which is false, (Taylor, 57). If God exists and knows all, then if God were to tell someone how, when, where they were going to die his answer would have to be true. Therefore if God knows all that has happened, whether it is as minor as an ant being born or as major as the end of the world, God knows all that is involved. One cannot believe in God and not believe in fate because He knows all that will come in the future and that is what fate is. However, a determinist will not believe in God, because of this fact. A determinist sees all the causes of what has happened as random, independent events that have causes and effects. In the story of Osmo, although he knows what future holds he still cannot avoid it. This story does not prove the theory of fate, however, it gives an example of how it is unavoidable. A determinist will believe this story because he knows what fate has set ... Today´s business can share information to investors around the world thanks to the intelligent software of the actual society. Through greed, people always want more and are rarely satisfied with what they have. In a short story The Book of Sand written by Jorge Luis Borges demonstrates how people are never truly content with what they have and are always looking for the newest and best object. In the story, the main character meets a man that offers him a book he has never seen before. This book is an endless book that has page numbers that always change. The man desires the book so much, he offers the other man: The full sum of [his] pension and Wyclif s bible (79). During this period, this was a lot to offer a man for something that he did not know much about. This represents how greedy people genuinely are, and how one would do anything to receive something new. Additionally, when people find issues with what they have, they resort to something newer and better. For example, in the poem A Love of Old Things written by Lesley Choyce, assesses the way people are when it comes to new versus old. The poem states, And when they fail / Must be replaced / With something even newer. (9 11). Through this, she talks about the fact that many humans find that when something breaks it must be replaced with something newer, instead of fixing the old. The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. Throughout the film, the two roommates who are part of the cult tries to convince the other two roommates, Steve and Tyler to join the cult. However, tension builds up with the cult members and the students when they would not convert and Steve s best friend Richie ends up joining the Christian cult. Furthermore, Steve and Tyler end up worried and concerned around the other roommates because their practices of following Christianity are eerie; they become uncomfortable with the other followers who would also come to the house to preach. Likewise, Steve and Tyler then confront their roommate Matty that they do not want to partake in the cult. At the end, the two roommates Harold and Matty leaves Tyler and Steve. Due to the film being based on true events, Matt Walls character Tyler is deemed to be the most believable character in the film and convincing that all these events are naturally occurring on a day to day basis. At first, Tyler is accepting of his roommates Harold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Prisoner of War Ethic Early on in the semester, I have found that Chapter 12 has been one of the more intriguing sections to read. After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics that could relate to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12; making it all the more fitting that I end here as well. Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over cultural boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not reflect back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I am personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to extend rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I believe. One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers the status of others exemplifies this dehumanization. We have a tremendous capacity, to turn people into less than us, and once you do that, you can justify a hell of a lot of awfulness. • 31. The Future of Human Evolution The Future of Human Evolution Alexander R. Prof. Kohn Darwinism and Evolution 12 6 96 Evolution, the science of how populations of living organisms change over time in response to their environment, is the central unifying theme in biology today. Evolution was first explored in its semi modern form in Charles Darwin s 1859 book, Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection. In this book, Darwin laid out a strong argument for evolution. He postulated that all species have a common ancestor from which they are descended. As populations of species moved into new habitats and new parts of the world, they faced different environmental conditions. Over time, these populations accumulated modifications, or adaptations, that allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first step in understand evolution in present terms is to mention genetic engineering (including genetic drift). The first step to understanding genetic engineering, and embracing its possibilities for society, is to obtain a rough knowledge base of its history and method. The basis for altering the evolutionary process is dependent on the understanding of how individuals pass on characteristics to their offspring. Genetics achieved its first foothold on the secrets of nature s evolutionary process when an Austrian monk named Gregor Mendel developed the first laws of heredity. Using these laws, scientists studied the characteristics of organisms for most of the next one hundred years following Mendel s discovery. These early studies concluded that each organism has two sets of character determinants, or genes (Stableford 16). For instance, in regards to eye color, a child could receive one set of genes from his father that were encoded one blue, and the other brown. The same child could al so receive two brown genes from his mother. The conclusion for this inheritance would be the child has a three in four chance of having brown eyes, and a one in three chance of having blue eyes (Stableford 16). Genes are transmitted through chromosomes which reside in the nucleus of every living organism s cells. Each chromosome is made up of fine strands of deoxyribonucleic acids, or DNA. • 32. North Dakota Pipeline Analysis In North Dakota, oil is a great source of revenue. Since the oil boom, transporting that oil has been done through pipelines as well as rail cars. Recently, the Dakota Access pipeline has attracted attention from celebrities and other civilians that are not even residents of the Dakotas, such as Shailene Woodley, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda, and Mark Ruffalo. Pipelines can be both efficient and dangerous. The efficiency can be read in the ability to transport the oil to other states, while the danger can be read in the environmental damage of an oil spill in a river that people depend on for water in the case the Dakota Access pipeline could damage the Missouri River. No matter all the perks of a pipeline such as Dakota Access, it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those for the pipeline say that it will help the economy, and that it will be much safer than transporting crude oil through rail cars. North Dakota oil producers will also get more revenue as a result. However, those against the pipeline say that even though it may be swell for the economy, it will not be swell for the environment. The gases that will be released from burning those gases from cars and other sources will help advance climate change, and is ultimately bad for the environment. If the United States just went to completely renewable energy, we could slow down the process. Also, it was planned that the pipeline be built and crossing under the Missouri River, which is the main water source for millions of people. Native Americans of the area Sioux mainly also have sacred grounds through where the pipeline was supposed to go through. The land was technically theirs in the treaty from the 1800s, but through deceit over the years, it has been taken from them. If the pipeline needs to be built, then it needs to be rerouted in order to protect the rights and environment of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Epidemiology Of Chronic Kidney Disease In the past decade, the epidemiology of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease has pointed to the fact that these are not distinct disease entities, but are in fact interconnected. Acute kidney injury may lead to chronic kidney disease, both share common risk factors: (1) race/ethnicity; (2) genetic factors; (3) hypertension; (4) diabetes mellitus; and (5) metabolic syndrome (Chawla, Eggers, Star Kimmel, 2014) Mr. Fisher has chronic hypertension, diabetes, and may have metabolic syndrome, as evidenced by obesity and hypertension. Metabolic syndrome is characterized by an increased waist size, triglycerides that are 150mg/dl, HDL 130/85, fasting glucose 100mg/dl. (McCance Huether, 2014). What Are Bedouin Tribals Bedouin tribes were traditionally nomadic peoples of the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa who migrated between the desert and cultivated land according to the season. It is this itinerant lifestyle that equipped this group with a vast knowledge of survival skills and enabled their endurance in harsh desert environments for centuries. Through the harvest of water and trade of goods and services in exchange for food, water and currency, they were able to migrate across Europe and ultimately to unite under a single cultural identity in the seventh century. United under the Islamic faith prior to the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632CE, what had been a small cluster of nomadic tribes and traders became a formidable force. With direction from ... There are many points that they try to prove to say that we did not land on the moon such as the flag movement, no stars, and that the shadows were messed up. There are many ways to prove them wrong with the proof they have that we landed on the moon. Conspiracy theorists have pointed out that we did not land on the moon with many points such as the flag was moving. According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, Photos of the landing also seem to show rippling in a breeze, which clearly shows a fold in the flag. According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, The moon landing hoax is the total lack of stars in any of the photographic/video evidence. There are no clouds on the moon, so stars are perpetually visible and significantly brighter than what we see through the filter of Earth s atmosphere (Moon landings could be a hoax). According to Erin Ruberry, Washington, D.C. based writer and editor specializing in digital media, The reason that the stars do not show up on the film is that the stars are so dim that the camera cannot gather enough of their light in a short exposure. Our eyes are a lot more sensitive to light than photographic film (Reason for no stars). Another reason from Brent Sibly, author from def logic.com/cached source, The moon is a very bright whitish object, which reflects the light from the sun as brightly as snow. Since the astronauts were constantly surrounded by the bright reflecting surface of the moon, they were always brightly lit (We went to the moon). The mythbusters proved that the astronauts and camera did not pick the stars by making similar dust to the moon and shined light on the dust and it reflected brightly and the brighter the moon is the harder it is to see the moon. And like what Erin Ruberry said the photographic lense could not pick up the stars from them being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even with this being true, D artagnan was still in opposition with Milady doing things just as bad as her actions in counter to hers. For example, in chapter thirty six Dream of Vengeance, D artagnan has sexual contact with Milady but tricking her into thinking it s Comte de Warde. This reveals his disregard of honor that he exemplifies in the beginning of the book and shows his force of power and persuasion to get his way just as Milady de Winter does. Not only that, but technically Milady de Winter is still married to Athos who although has a broken heart, still follows the laws of the Church meaning that D artagnan had an affair knowingly. D artagnan being the main character and hero in the novel does not justify behavior yet he is still considered the one who can be connected with.
