Tell Me, Forget Me Not By Hannah Neale
Forget Me, Forget Me Not By Hannah Neale Foreword Alzheimer s Disease (AD) is a form of
Dementia. Dementia is a depletion of mental ability caused by brain cells dying. However, many
factors have been linked to the development of AD, and there is not yet a cure and the main cause
is unknown. Most people develop AD over the age of 65. Alois Alzheimer first found AD in
Germany during 1901. Although not much attention was paid to the disease at the time, AD is
becoming an increasing worry in our society due to the ageing population. Introduction For this
Assignment, my intention is to examine a range of current treatments used for AD and to compare
their effectiveness in terms of improving the quality of life for the patient. This has a significant
effect on pharmacologists in terms of determining the best treatments to help narrow down the most
suitable drug for treating AD. Antipsychotics Neuroleptics are the typical antipsychotics used for
treating AD and other disorders. Neuroleptics work by blocking dopamine receptors found in the
mesolimbic stratal mesocortical systems of the brain. In a controlled study, 59% of patients on
neuroleptics and 41% of those taking the placebo saw a decrease in mental distress. This suggests
that there was a minor improvement in the patients quality of life, due to treatment with these
drugs. (Juillerat Mahwah, A C. et al, 2003) However, the level of improvement of the patients AD
varied in the study, which was not taken

Analysis Of Ryan s The Flies
Similar to a circle, Ryan s face is rounded just enough for his Aunt to love it. Despite a chubby
face and fingers, his body is small. Fragile. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy
learning new concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A
roof is nothing more than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a
door and Ryan has drawn a squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three.
Ryan understands these concepts, because they re easy to control. Understandingbecomes hard
when the shapes are replaced by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people.
Why is it hard to be understanding towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself
into someone else s shoes and say they had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too
simpleminded to understand? Or, is it because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away
by someone else s life. If they refuse to accept my world, then why should I try to understand
theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the
rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them, but also me, feel frustrated as well. I know
how it feels to be unheard. I know how it feels to have someone watch me talk, but ignore my
words; like I wasn t there to begin with. Who am I if my peers are willing to treat my voice as if it
was nothing more than a gust of air? I crash

The Respiratory System Essay
The respiratory system is the process responsible for the transportation and exchange of gases into
and out of the human body. As we breath in, oxygen in the air containing oxygen is drawn into the
lungs through a series of air pipes known as the airway and into the lungs. As air is drawn into the
lungs and waste gas excreted, it passes through the airway, first through the mouth or nose and
through the pharynx, larynx and windpipe also known as the trachea. At this point it then enters the
lungs through the bronchi before finally reaching the air sacs known as alveoli. Within the lungs,
through a process known as diffusion, the oxygen is transferred to the bloodstream through the
alveoli (air ducts) where it is then transported inside... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the alveoli, the oxygen is transferred to the blood whilst simultaneously collecting waste
carbon dioxide for excretion as we breath out. This transference is known as diffusion and is linked
to the cardiovascular system.
Diffusion is an automated process by where the levels of oxygen, water and carbon dioxide pass
over a semi permeable membrane between the walls of the cells and blood vessels to create a level
environment. This membrane only allows these three elements to pass whilst retaining other
elements such as blood cells, hence semi permeable. The high concentration on one side of the cells
transfers through this membrane until the level is equal on both sides.
The human body comprises of two respiratory sponges called lungs. The left lung is slightly
smaller than the right as it makes room for placement of the heart. Due to this slightly smaller size,
it only contains two lobes whereas the right lung has 3 lobes. Both lungs are host to the network of
air sacs or alveoli which transport the air from the outside environment to the external and internal
respiration processes.
As we breathe in, the muscles in the chest wall force the thoracic area, ribs and connective muscles
to contract and expand the chest. The diaphragm is contracted and moves down as the area inside
the chest increases as air enters the lungs. The lungs are forced open by this expansion and the
pressure inside the lungs becomes enough that it pulls

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Franchise
In the modern world of entrepreneurship, motivated men and women are faced with the task of
either creating their own business or taking on the marks and practices of another existing brand.
The latter is franchising, and it presents a host of benefits and possible disadvantages to the
aspiring inquirer. A franchise, by definition, is a binding, legal contract that enables the rights,
marks, and other notable elements of a given brand, referred to as the franchisor, to be used by a
second party the franchisee (What is Franchising?, n.d.). Further expanding the opportunities
available to new and veteran entrepreneurs is that franchises come in two distinctly different types:
product distribution franchises and business format franchises.... Show more content on

It is also prudent to consider that the franchise fee can be indicative of the level of trust. The
amount of trust a franchisor hold with their franchisees can, at times, mitigate overall costs
involved, lowering the risk for prospective franchisees (Herz, Hutzinger, Seferagic, Winsperger,
2016). To illustrate this, the initial franchise fee is lowered for existing franchisees and those
seeking a successive contractual term. Furthermore, an excess of trust is shown on behalf of the
SHOPPE COMPANY, as one would imagine the initial fee ($10,000) would outsize the secondary
($20,000) to lower the risk of delinquent payments and ensure the commitment of the applicant.
Additional costs are required over the lifespan of the franchisee outlet, and are left to the
discretion of the franchisor. Royalty payments and advertising fees are commonplace in
franchise agreements, and are unsurprisingly present here. The SHOPPE COMPANY requires a
royalty payment of 4% of weekly gross profits, which are to be reported every Monday (Sample
Franchise Agreement, 2006, p.11). Advertising fees present themselves as both GENERAL
MARKETING CONTRIBUTIONS (GMC) and LOCAL MARKETING CONTRIBUTIONS
(LMC). 1/12th of the required annual GMC (never less than $3,000) is to be paid every month,
while the LMC amounts to only 1% of weekly gross profits (pp. 13 14). Establishing fees and

Decision-Making Model Analysis Essay example
Decision Making Model Analysis
Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! How do you make decisions? Have you ever asked yourself, How
did I make that decision? Whether big or small, important or not so important, decision making is
a process. Some people way the pros and cons while others may just flip a coin. Are decisions based
on feelings, outcomes or information? Often times if we just go with our gut feeling will be miss
out on important information that should be included in our decision.
Decision making can be a cognitive process of selecting a course of action form various options.
Some of us are logical. Some of us are risk taking. Either way such characteristics play a role in our
decisions. In my experience decision making can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Step One is to identify the decision to be made. In my case, the decision was whether to take a new
job opportunity or remain in my existing position.
Step Two is to do a self assessment. At this point, I began to consider my needs and wants. Would
the new opportunity really be something I would enjoy? Would it be challenging? This particular
new opportunity was an office position. I am accustomed to working in the field. So I had to ask
myself how will I adapt to the everyday office environment.
Step Three is to identify the options. I began to gather information about other potential
opportunities that may soon be an option. Should I settle for this opportunity or what for one more
suitable for me, is a question I proposed to myself.
Step Four is to gather information and data. I reviewed the salary potential of the job opportunity. I
considered the current salary and potential future salary increase.
Step Five is to evaluate options that will solve the problem. In trying to make my decision, I listed
the pros and cons. I thought about the potential disadvantages of leaving my current position.
Step Six is to select on of the options. At this point, Roberts believes you should have enough
information to choose an option. In my decision, I had all the information I needed to make my
decision. While, the new opportunity offered a higher salary, the responsibilities where not tasks of
interest.
Step Seven is to design a course of action to

Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans
Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors
and defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were
living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never
seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when
the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then
began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you
wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how
many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native
Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all
captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course,
Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and
attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the
three that was captured was Mr. John Smith.
While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a
surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John
Smith s men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass.
After capturing him,

Similarities Between Brom Bones And The Headless Horseman...
Similarities between Brom Bones and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow
Introduction
Washington Irving is the author of the tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, that was written in the
nineteenth century (Baym 25). Irving was born in New York City on April 3rd, 1783 and was the
last of eleven children. At home, Irving read a wide range of English literature and delighted in
many other writers, including Shakespeare, Oliver Goldsmith, and Laurence Sterne. In 1830
Irving bought and began refurbishing a house along the Hudson River near Tarrytown (Baym 25).
The beginning of Irving s tale opens up with the description of the charming Hudson Valley region
of Sleepy Hollow near Tarrytown. The Legend of Sleepy Hollowrepresents a popular tale in Irving
s book The Sketch Book. It s ghostly tale that talks about a mysterious Headless Horseman that is
said to be a Hessian trooper who lost his head in battle. It is said that every night, the Headless
Horseman roams the countryside in search of his head. There is an unlikely hero in this tale named
Ichabod Crane, but to the people of Sleepy Hollow the real hero is Brom Bones.
Article Analysis
There is nothing like the tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with its interpretations and meanings
that span far and wide. Couser Thomas had his own theory about this tale. This critical article
focuses on the similarities between the literary interpretations of The Ruined Garden of Wolfert

Journal Entries for habit
Journal Entries for habit one and two Habit 1: Be Proactive According to Stephen Covey, being
proactive is part of human nature and humans are responsible for their own lives. He indicated the
details of a social map which consist of Genetic determinism (Ancestors), Psychic determinism
(Parents) and Environment determinism (Boss or something in the environment). The proactive
concept was explained further using the Stimulus and Response relationship and the catalyst story
of Viltor Frankl. Between Stimulus and Response, man has the ability or freedom to choose. This
means one can decide how to reactive to thing or how to handle each situation. What matters most
is how we respond to what we experience in life. We need to take initiative... Show more content on

In the same way, Algebra comes before calculus. To expatiate on this point, Covey noted that
independence is an achievement. Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make.
So the place to begin building any relationship is inside ourselves, inside our Circle of Influence,
our own character. Stephen further recollected an incidence he had with his two sons to explain
what attending to little things meant. To him, Small discourtesies, little unkindnesses, little forms
of disrespect make large withdrawals in our lives. In relationship for instance, the little thing are the
big things. Keeping commitments, Clarifying expectations, showing personal integrity,
apologizing sincerely when we make a withdrawal from our emotional bank are important things
to do to make deposits in to our emotional banks. Covey mentioned that, with the paradigm of the
Emotional Bank Account in mind, we re ready to move into the habits of Public Victory, or
success in working with other people. Habit 4: Think win win (Principles of Interpersonal
leadership) Under this heading, Covey narrated his personal experience at work with a company
and at the end he noted that, whether you are the president of a company or the janitor, the moment
you step from independence into interdependence in any capacity, you step into a leadership role.
You are in a position of influencing other people. And the habit of effective interpersonal leadership
is to think win win. In

Model Rocket. It was his first time traveling alone, when he had to go observe some model

no return, because he did not know the place, nor the way. Quiet and reverent, no music in the
car, following the direction of the GPS carefully, his mind was well set. It was six in the morning.
The outside was still dark. Every other vehicle he could see was a rocket. Every other sound he
heard besides his own car s was a rocket s explosion. This rocket jubilee began turning to a

Impact Of Global Security Trends On National Military...
The top three global security trends that will influence our National Military Strategy in the next
four to ten years are proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, cyberwarfare, and emerging
technologies. These three trends directly influence operating environments and impact future Joint
Force capabilities and capacity. Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation of
weapons of mass destruction (WMD) by both state and non state actors is an existential threat.
North Korea s nuclear weapons and missile programs pose a serious threat to US interests and to
the security environment (Coats, p.6). In 2016 and 2017, North Korea conducted more ballistic
missile tests than ever before. Most recently, on July 4th 2017, North... Show more content on

The Joint Force will have to collaborate with a host of government agencies and allies in order
to promote awareness, enhance preparedness, create a credible deterrence, and improve
operational response in the wake of the use of WMDs. The Joint Force Command of 2025 must
not only think about the individual personal protective equipment against chemical and
biological effects but will need to add another level of protection for troops in the form of WMD
reconnaissance/surveillance in the potential battle space. Cyberwarfare The strengthening of our
advantage in the cyber domain directly influences the operational environment by preventing the
degradation of the technological advantage we currently enjoy. Despite known and predicted
risk, we currently have a 10:1 advantage over our nearest peer competitor China, as regards
technology, research, and development. (Miller, p.11) A failure to protect and defend our cyber
domain could have catastrophic effects on our infrastructure, economy, military capabilities, and
even threaten the public s confidence in our democratic process (CCJO JF 2030, p. A 1). Non
state actors use of cyber warfare presents a unique challenge to nation states in that it has the
potential to degrade traditional forms of national power such as diplomacy, information, military
and economic power (Miller, p.34). The Joint Force will need to look at their use of cyber as a
vulnerability. US systems will need to be redundant,

Ocean City Essay
Ocean City is a beautiful vacation place, not just for the summer. Many people go there to relax,
make memories and have a good time. It is a fun filled, family friendly vacation place that
everyone will enjoy and it is worth the drive. Ocean City has a lot of history to go with it, the
first hotel was built by Isaac Coffin in 1869, it was the first beachfront cottage to receive paying
guests, who came to fish, relax, enjoy the beauty of the ocean, and enjoy the sand. Ocean City
extends nearly 10 miles from the southern inlet to the Delawareline. Now there are hotels, motels,
apartments, houses, and condos. Ocean city expanded when the Chesapeake Bay bridgewas
finished, by the 1970 s there were big businesses and more apartments being built. Ocean City is
located near Fenwick Island, near the Delaware line. On the bridge, you get a beautiful view of
the bay and you see boats going all around you and under you. It is a three to four hour drive
depending on traffic. Once you get to Ocean City, depending on where you are, there is a view
of the bay on one side and on the other side, you have a beautiful view of the waves and the sand.
One downfall of this vacation is the cleaning service at Seaside Retreat on 138th street. When we

Working Memory Inattentional Blindness
In the second phase of the experiment, the task and stimuli were the same, but following this
phase, all of the subjects reported having seen the patterns. ERPs recorded over the occipital
pole differed in amplitude from 220 to 260 msec for the pattern stimuli compared with the
random arrays regardless of whether subjects were aware of the patterns. At subsequent latencies
(300 340 msec) however, ERPs over bilateral occipital parietal areas differed between patterns
and random arrays only when subjects were aware of the patterns. Finally, in a third phase of the
experiment, subjects viewed the same stimuli, but the task was altered so that the patterns became
task relevant. Here, the same two difference components were evident but were followed by a
series of additional components that were absent in the first two phases of the experiment. We
hypothesize that the ERP difference at 220 260 msec reflects neural activity associated with
automatic contour integration whereas the difference at 300 340 msec reflects visual awareness,

performance, especially for tasks that demand focused attention. One negative consequence of
focused attention is inattentional blindness, the failure to notice unexpected objects when attention

inattentional blindness is unclear; some studies have found that higher working memory capacity is

Material Handling Of Construction And Civil Works
Material handling in construction and civil works is one of the basic necessities. The material
supply to civil and construction is provided through trucks, dumper etc. The material should be
properly loaded, managed, stacked, transported and unloaded. The dumper carries the material
which is loaded from the site, where the material is initially stored. It is then loaded to the dumper
and transported to the required site and then unloaded. The major issues raises over here, the
incompatibility of the site with the fully loaded dumper causes a lot of settling time for the trolley
to get the material properly arranged and transportation time to reach its location. The dumper
unloads the material in only one direction. But this incapability can be fulfilled by a new method
mechanism as the unidirectional dumper. This mechanism is an approach to reduce the idle time to
settle the dumper. The material is unloaded in any direction and hence can be boldly stated as
Unidirectional Dumper. The major outcomes of unidirectional dumper has overcome space
requirement which often result in road blocking. Hence, we have inversion in the existing
mechanism providing the unloading in 1800 rotations. This mechanism prevents blocking of road,
saves time and enhances productivity at lowest cost. The automotive sector is fast booming section

audience through elements and characters within the film through the effective usage of colors.
The usage of costume (with regards to the mis en scene) played an integral role in McTeigue
presenting a realist style to the audience. In the sequence we are presented where Evey works,
we are exposed to an individual who is dressed differently than anyone else. This symbolizes
someone who is different from everyone else (Evey is the only individual wearing a non business
casual outfit; wears a blouse) with regards to her position in her workplace. This eventually
becomes true as Evey s life completely changes when V visits her workplace and makes a broadcast.

The long shots and point of view shots were used so that we can have an idea as to who such
characters are and how their lives are. For example, in the sequence where the ruler of England
is introduced to the audience, the usage of long shots allows us to understand these particular
characters and what they do. In addition, we are able to deduct that these five individuals are to
be considered as top aides to the ruler of England. Even though they possess a sense of authority,
they are still below/under the ruler of England. This was demonstrated through the camera s
angling. In this same sequence the camera angle is at a low angle. This low angle is used to
demonstrate the amount of power the ruler has over these individuals and over the country. The
usage of closeups plays a role in the depiction as to how much power the ruler possesses. Close
ups, when effectively used, can portray power. Because of this sequences frequent use of point of
view shots, the audience is able to relate and to feel the same way the five characters feel during
this sequence (feeling inferior to the ruler of England). This is a representation of McTeigue
effectively using framing to depict a realist style towards viewers by allowing such viewers to

The Causes and Effects of Gender Imbalance in Asia
The Causes and Effects of Gender Imbalance in Asia
By Tom Farrer Throughout this paper I will focus on the phenomenon of the gender imbalance in
Asia. I will begin by assessing the current situation and researching the various causes which have
led to it. I shall then analyse the possible consequences to follow and conclude with an outlook to
the future.
According to the United Nations the recommended sex ratio at birth (SRB) for a country is 107,
meaning that for every 100 females born, 107 males are born . The average SRB for
industrialised countries lies between 104 and 106 , therefore looking at the figures for many Asian
countries, we can see that something is clearly wrong. With many countries where the SRB is well
above average, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his more well known inventions is the ultra sound machine used for foetus scanning.
Coming into widespread use throughout Asia in the mid 1980s, this machine enabled families to
find out the sex of their unborn child and is therefore held responsible, to a considerable extent, for
the gender imbalance.
In order to combat the obvious effects of the ultra sound machine, the Chinese government has
since prohibited its use for non medical sex identification (see the second section of the table below
), as has the Indian government in the Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (1994). Nevertheless,
despite the prohibition of non medical sex identification and abortion in China, the floating and
rural population and corruption among medical practices has made enforcing these laws difficult.
The situation is similar in India, where illegal sex identification has become a lucrative business,
despite the three year jail sentence for those found out. As in China, this punishment is also very
difficult to enforce and, especially in rural areas, is often ignored by local police altogether.
Therefore, the Chinese government has introduced different initiatives to combat the gender
imbalance, one of which is the Care For Girls Campaign. Starting with a pilot scheme in Chaohu,

Analysis Of The Movie Forbidden Lie $
If lying was a job for Norma Khouri, she truly would have been a billionaire by the end of Anna
Broinowski s enthralling documentary, Forbidden Lie$ . Documentaries and films are seen as a
reliable medium for providing facts and information yet even after having seen this riveting
documentary, you ll find yourself questioning the integrity of the entire documentary. With
Broinowski gaining a great sense of authority over this text right from the start, she paves the stones
in leading the viewer to eventually gain a greater sense of authority over the film s meaning. Anna
Broinowski attempts to pull Norma Khouriapart at the seams in Forbidden Lie$, to finally unravel
the ball of lies crafted by the pathological liar herself. This elaborate documentary follows the story
of the infamous Norma Khouri from all possible angles, while subsequently proving the words of
Christopher Nolan. That the truthis indeed stranger than fiction.
Forbidden Lie$ goes back in time to 2003, to where Norma purportedly recounts the story of her
Muslim best friend Dalia and the forbidden romance between Dalia and a Christian soldier
Michael. The fascinatingly fabricated story begins with Dalia and Michael meeting at Norma
and Dalia s unisex salon in Jordan, where Dalia falls in love at first sight with Michael and
proceeds to secretly meet up with him on a number of occasions. According to Khouri s atrocious
novel, this forbidden love leads to the demise of Dalia, after her father and

Kashmir Conflict
INTRODUCTION:
The Kashmir dispute is the oldest unresolved international conflict in the world today. Pakistan
considers Kashmir as its core political dispute with India. So does the international community,
except India. The exchange of fire between their forces across the Line of Control, which separates
Azad Kashmir from Occupied Kashmir, is a routine affair. Now that both Indiaand Pakistan have
acquired nuclear weapons potential, the possibility of a third war between them over Kashmir,
which may involve the use of nuclear weapons, cannot be ruled out. Kashmir may be a cause to a
likely nuclear disaster in South Asia, which should be averted with an intervention by the
international community. Such an intervention is urgently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nehru s betrayal :
India s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a pledge to resolve the Kashmir dispute in
accordance with these resolutions. The sole criteria to settle the issue, he said, would be the wishes
of the Kashmir people . A pledge that Prime Minister Nehru started violating soon after the UN
resolutions were passed. The Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir , was
inserted in the Indian constitution. The Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly was created on
5 November 1951. Prime minister Nehru also signed the Delhi Agreement with the then ruler of the
disputed State, Sheikh Abdullah, which incorporated Article 370. In 1957, the disputed State was
incorporated into the Indian Union under a new Constitution. This was done in direct contravention
of resolutions of the UNSC and UNCIP and the conditions of the controversial Instrument of
Accession. The puppet State government of Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed rushed through the
constitutional provision and the people of Kashmir were not consulted.
In 1965, India and Pakistan once again went to war over Kashmir. A cease fire was established in
September 1965. Indian Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and Pakistani president Ayub Khan
signed the Tashkent Declaration on 1 January 1966. They resolved to try to end the dispute by
peaceful means. Although Kashmir was not the cause of 1971 war between the two countries, a
limited war did occur on the Kashmir

Poll Tax In Henry Thoreau s Resistance To Civil Government
Poll Tax
Poll tax, meaning a fee that has to be paid to satisfy taxpayer requirements in voting laws, and
that the only people who demonstrate financial tie to community were permitted for this kind of
voting, was the reason Henry Thoreau was arrested and sent to jail for the night. While in jail,
he realized that what had just happened to him was not right and needed to do something about
it. The next day a friend of his which happened to be his aunt paid his texas meaning he was free
to go. Believe it or not, Thoreau refused to be let out and wanted justice for what was illegally
happening. Which is why he wrote Resistance to Civil Government so everyone would read and
know what was actually going on. I believe that he presents an effective argument and fights for
what he knows is right, which involved poll tax, civil disobedience, and unjust laws.
One of Thoreau s strong argument points had to do with the whole situation of the poll tax. He didn
t see the need in people paying tax for something that they don t agree on nor want. He stopped
paying poll tax about six years ago because he believed that it supported the Mexican American
war and the expansion of slavery into the Southwest which he did not agree on. The next couple
of days he was out running errands and got arrested for that reason. Sam Staples, which was the
cop who arrested Thoreau, failed to take action against him for several years up until that day. In
my opinion I feel like if Staples didn t

Disobedience In The 1967 Film Cool Hand Luke
Mahatmas Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the South Africans all have used disobedience
in order to change an unjust norm or law(s). The most common form of disobedience which have
been used in history is to simply not obey the officials of higher authority and protest in order to
get the point across. These protests have been successful because of the mass numbers of
supporters but also because they set out to change an unjust rule or norms. In the 1967 film Cool
Hand Lukefeaturing Paul Newman, Lucas (Luke) has been sent to jail for beheading parking meters
while intoxicated. During his time in jail, he disobeys both the de factoinmate leader and the
wardens simply because he did not like to conform to their rules. Luke s,... Show more content on

This admiration further fuels his desires to break the norm and authority and it is shown when
he blindly decides to accept a bet where he has to eat fifty hard boiled eggs. His success ensured
that Luke has become the new de facto leader and even Dragline respects his actions and
authority. With this newfound position, the wardens and officers do not seem pleased; they
view his success as a threat to their power and authority. His rise in power and his desire for
disobedience lacks one critical point that he fails to see throughout the film: a just objective. He
breaks the norm in jail so simply fulfill his thirst to be different and not what he seems unjust and
unfair. As a prisoner, he has lost most of his rights as an American citizen and he has to be
punished as a result. His treatment seems fair; he received three meals, recreation time, visiting
hours and care there was no evidence of mistreatment or unfair conditions. This first two
attempts to escape showed that he performed those actions just to demonstrate his ability to
escape and hold on to his newfound power and glory. They do not, however, help him realize all
the reasons to behave well and obey authority in jail in order to fully appreciate all the benefits of
freedom once his term was over. Instead, it reassured the inmates that Luke has become the leader
and he will continue to break the law as he pleased. The apex of his vanity occurs when he mails a

Edward Snowden Definition
Beginning with a strong opinion, I believe Edward Snowden s comparison of these two statements
is correct. To sum up Snowden s quote, one person believes that privacy rights do not matter
because they have nothing they need to hide, while the other states they don t need freedom of
speech because they don t have anything they want to vocalize. While the two, at first, may seem to
have nothing in common because of the two vastly different subjects they are speaking about, they
are actually both including the same topic in their statements their rights along with the rights of
others.
Simply, just because one does not use their fundamental rights as a United States citizen does not
mean that the rights of other U.S. citizens should be disregarded. ... Show more content on

But even if they did, you can t give away the rights of others because they re not useful to you.
More simply, the majority cannot vote away the natural rights of the minority.
The people stating that nobody needs certain rights simply because they don t use theirs is living in
an isolated state of mind. They hold the belief that everybody should conform to their own personal
opinions. Snowden is correct when he says that someone who feels they need to justify any
fundamental right they are given is trying to modify that right for others, or take it away from those
around them.
I believe that what Edward Snowden had to say about our fundamental rights and those that justify
those rights is absolutely correct. There is no justification in saying that someone s rights do not
matter simply because they aren t useful to a certain individual. It is as wrong to say you don t
care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide as it is to say you don t care about
free speech because you have nothing to say. As Snowden had also stated in his Reddit post, They

My Life Of My Sister
Obviously, I could have written this essay about any of the people in my life, but I picked the
one person I have spent my whole life with, Abi. Yes, yes, I know what a kiss up to her sister, but
I want to tell you about the wild spirited Abi, or as my mom says, The annoying one . Being her
sister, she has showed and still shows me almost everything that I shouldn t do. Some things she
does can just make you laugh so hard your stomach hurts or comfort you until you feel better. At
first glance you don t see a warm and cuddly person, you see someone with a very stern face and
mean attitude, but once you know her your view point just might change. Her personality is
something that you would never think of for her. Man is she a nice person, she even works a

Man Is The Real Man Essay
As we may know from our school lessons in Biology, the human brain is mostly dormant we use
only a tiny fraction of its potential. Although scientists know much more now about the workings
of the human brain than they did 30 years ago, there are still vast areas of brain that have remained
unexplored and still mysterious. And the reason for this is that those silent areas of the brainwere
created for supernatural purposes.
The gifts inherent in these parts of the brain were almost certainly used by a lot of Ancient mystics,
prophets, sages and wisemen and women as they could directly communicate with the Deities of
the Old and even understand the language of other creatures such as animals, plants and even

There are areas in man s nature that lie from man s physical senses and instruments but nevertheless
profoundly affect his body s well being. The great physician surgeon and Nobel prize winner, Dr.
Alexis Carrel, was humble enough to admit this fact in his monumental and highly readable book
called, Man, the Unknown.
Said Dr. Carrell:
Man, as known to the specialists, is far from being the concrete man, the real man. He is nothing but
a schema, consisting of other schemata built up by the techniques of each science... In fact, our
ignorance is profound... Immense regions of our inner world are still unknown.
In conclusion, third eye is for real, yes. It s our pineal gland! The aim of third eye or the power is
to facilitate or hasten the process so we may reach the goal faster, which is to understand the
purpose our purpose, our mission and such. The gifts should ennoble the spirit and make us all
better human beings, better walker of the path we choose to follow. No other purpose of third eye
or the abilities is valid in my humble opinions, except that it leads us to the Higher Consciousness.

The Impacts Of Multimedia Multitasking Influence On...
Multimedia Multitasking Influence on College Learning No matter where you go people can be
observed on their smartphone and laptop while engaging in other tasks. According to Pew
Research Center, as of November 2016, 95% of Americans own a cellphone which includes
100% of 18 29 year olds. The college classroom is now home to a generation that has been raised
with so much technology that they are accustomed to multitasking and interruptions
(Rosen,Lim,Carrier, and Cheever, 2011). It is second nature, something as simple as brushing their
teeth, and the idea of simplifying and focusing on one thing is no longer in their DNA. Thus, even
when it comes to sitting in a college classroom, it s hard for them to shut down the constantly
active technological portions of their brain. Technology has been statistically proven to hinder
knowledge, even though students are using it to gain knowledge in itself. The majority of
technology use, according to a survey by Jackson (2013), 39.1% of 102 students in question
admitted using their mobile phone during class for personal use and only 3.1% reported to use
their device for academic purpose. According to an article in Government Technology, students
who use their phones more than 10 hours day had a significantly lower grade point average 2.84 in
comparison to the GPA of those students who only used their phones up to two hours daily 3.15.
This shows that multitasking has a negative impact on learning. In support of this,

The two characters, the short story Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway is centred

A Philosophical Enquiry Into The Origin Of Our Ideas Of...
In A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful Edmund
Burke writes, It is the nature of grief to keep its object perpetually in its eye, to present it in its most
pleasurable views, to repeat all the circumstances that attend to it . Burke s writing attempts to
clarify the pictorial, literary, cultural, economic and psychological phenomenon of sublimity,
explicating the ways in which power, vastness, obscurity and beauty intersect to form emotional
response. A Philosophical Enquiry elucidates why so many Romantic poets and writers would
make grief, mourning and death the subjects of their works; the limitless, obscure, infinite theme
death corresponds to the existential, contemplative and introspective ideas Romantic writers were
attempting to interrogate. But the subject of death in Romantic literature transcends the topic of
corporeal death and explores the death of memory, of youth, of innocence and of the past.
Furthermore, the Romantic writers were grappling with a shifting, changing society that caused a
sense of pervasive loss in their works; as artists, authors and the population attempted to navigate a
society characterized by political revolution and technological innovation, poems about mourning
act as almost consolatory works. Amongst this writing which attempts to navigate the subject of
grief, nature is a recurring element. By examining the locations or settings authors used as a
backdrop for their reflections on death

What Is Dynamic Nature Of MIS Infrastructure

Dynamic Nature of MIS infrastructure
A good MIS infrastructure should support operations and business continuity, with a tested backup
and recovery plan. It should also be dynamic and support changes as needed including new

This option includes infrastructure as a service, software as a service, and platform as a service.
Third, virtualized computing, creating multiple virtual machines on a single physical machine to
maximum its usage.
Many suppliers of cloud computing are working hard on sustainability. For example, Google data
center experiments with different cooling technology and found that having server rack that is
buddied with an air conditioning unit, helps cool down the servers. Moreover, the cooling
mechanism is a series of coils with water. As hot air rises from the servers, the water absorbed
the heat thereby cooling down the serves. The warm water gets cooled down when it flows
outside the data center, and the cool water flows into the server room to cool down the racks again.
Innovation is prevalent at Google data center, and it aims to reduce carbon offsets.
Amazon is another example powering its data centers with renewable energy, by buying the energy

The Invention Of The Automobile Industry Essay
Cars are definitely the biggest invention on history changing the way humans transport. In the
past, there were no vehicles and therefore people used to walk while only the few lucky had the
privilege of enjoying a horse ride. There were also horse wagons which were made in order to
increase the number of persons who could be carried (Lynn, 54). However, in the year 1907, Henry
Fordinvented the first car model which was referred to as T model, that allowed everyone to own a
automobile. In this paper I will argue the importance of cars through history and why cars are the
biggest history humans have created using too expecific examples from history. The T model
reinvented the automobile industry making automobiles accessible for every social class. And
almost a century after Toyota car company reinvented again the automobile industry creating the
first hybrid named Prius. The importance of automobiles in history is obvious and this two
creation will teach you why. In the year 1903, there was the formation of a Association of Licensed
Automobile Manufacturers (ALAM) which was aimed at ensuring that only the licensed dealers
could be allowed to produce and sell vehicles (Grimm, 51). There was however rule and regulations
that they had to follow and failure to adhere would have led to being overthrown from the business.

Bipolar disorder is a serious chronic mental illness that can change the way individuals think,

Persuasive Essay On Child Circumcision
Imagine you are in hospital room somewhere in Malaysia. A young girl timidly toddles in with
her mother, and is soon restrained by her mother and a medical attendant while her genitals are cut
against her will. This will ensure that her body is cleaner, her mother has been conditioned to
think. It will also make her daughter s genitals look more aesthetically pleasing. After the procedure
has been completed, the girl lay there suffering in pain, and the doctor proudly announces to her
mother, Congratulations! Her circumcision is finished! As appalling as it is to imagine this
scenario, thousands of American newborns go through this trauma every day; simply change the
gender from girl to boy. Routine infant circumcision (RIC) is described as the nonreligious elective
removal of the prepuce of the penisin the days following birth, [and] is the most common surgery

Although circumcision is thought to be one of the oldest procedures in the world, the manner in
which American doctors perform it is relatively new. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans,
circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of
our founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised!
Americans tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s
population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in

The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,...
Introduction
Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000
islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be
the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was
described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells
(Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and
the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain

Essay On The Loyalist Party
As Americans, we have the liberty to rebel against British control after they imposed taxes on us
following the French and Indian War. Constant tension between Great Britain and America, shall
prompt acts of rebellion and a divide in our mindset. ask that you allow me to explain why I do not
support the Loyalist Party.
In Britain s attempt to pay for their war debts, they have implemented many changes such as a
form of government that is far more suitable for their society than American colonies. Our sore
under representation in Parliament and expectation to pay high taxes, will not result in favorable
outcomes. I believe that as Americans we have complete right to independence without the
influence of British military or government, nor should we be in charge of paying for British war
debts. We, should not be governed under British rule simply under the account that we share a
similar language and culture, nor are we in need of military protection on behalf of the British. I,
Samuel Adams, along with my men, will do everything in our power to demand justice for
American colonists.
The enforcement of taxes upon Americans through Acts such as the Stamp Act, the Townshend Act
and the Tea Act, impinge upon our freedoms and rights as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In my attempt to foresee change, I administered the attack on tea entering Boston. Groups of people
have been sent out under my leadership have attacked the homes of many Stamp Act
commissioners, causing havoc within towns. We are irritated with the passing of high taxes on
colonist, and therefore, unapologetic about the Boston Tea Party. As a result of these unjust taxes, I
am prepared to take military action, until we begin to see change in the Parliament. Should our
demands not be met, I perceive greater tension between the two

A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There
is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a
MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many
LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run
by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity.
This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public
education to set up these stations. In Montserrat their where no levels of monitoring at all due to

There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard
such as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics
you can only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with
dam wall trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which
started on 23 January.
Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they
might not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen
as they didn t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000
people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes
region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz,
causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption
casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the
people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have
been ad the results where horrific. This is one example of how poor education and different
situation can greatly increase the hazard.
The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment
affects the hazard. In Armero two

Suspense in Jekyll and Hyde Essay
How suspense is built up in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis
Stevenson was born on the 13th November 1850. He wrote Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886,
with that 40,000 copies of the book were sold in the first six months. This was designed to mirror
the Victorian secret and based on good and evil. Stevenson later died in 1894 in Samoa. Stevenson
used the contemporary setting of Victorian London to write his gothic horror novel. The streets
with the gas lamps were the perfect setting following the true horrific stories of Jack the Ripper.
He refers to Mr Hyde well as he wanders the streets of London not knowing who he s going to meet.
The elements in gothic horror include irony, movement, time, senses, horrific... Show more content

More clues are revealed to everyone over the book for example, Dr Lanyon s letter tells people
some shocking facts about Dr Jekyll and that is when people start to suspect things. At the end
of the book, Dr Jekyll retells the whole story in a narrative style which explains everything about
Jekyll and Hyde and that Jekyll would kill himself after he wrote the letter. That is when the
book ends. This shows how suspense is built up. Stevenson sets the scene and creates the mood
in the book, from the very beginning; he does this by using the devices of gothic horror. He uses
zoom lens a lot in the third to last chapter. The last night ; it goes into heavy detail about the
Laboratory and the surroundings of it. The candle was set upon the nearest table creates a
picture in the readers mind about all the visual aids in the area. He describes it so well; you
could almost go into the Laboratory and navigate yourself around it with great ease. This shows
how suspense is built up. That evening refers to time phrases. I think is what makes the book so
well and so popular. This also makes the book flow so well, so the reader can understand the
book well enough to keep reading without getting lost. It also helps the reader visualise the time
of day it is, so that refers to zoom lens again. This shows how suspense is built up. At the very
beginning of the book Utterson is introduced as this sort of boring, quiet man cold,

Daisy And Myrtle Wilson In The Great Gatsby
Looking at first glance the wealthy and dainty Daisy Buchannan, Gatsby s object of worship,
seems to be completely opposite Myrtle Wilson, a lewd and vulgar woman whom is married to
the mechanic George Wilson and whom was actually having an affair with Daisy s husband. If
you look at the motives and personalities of these two mistresses you will see that both of then had
an attraction for men other than their husbands; although, their desires for other men were not
necessarily for the same reason. Daisy had known Gatsby five years prior and they had developed
into a beautiful romance that is remembered in the book as almost ideal, but Gatsby left her and
Daisy ended up marrying Tom Buchannan On June she married Tom Buchanan of Chicago with...

There was an unmistakable air of natural intimacy about the picture. (145). Then when Gatsby
and Daisy reunite we see that Daisy truly is a hopeless romantic and ultimately this is the reason
that she has an affair with Gatsby. Daisy after all of the years and after having a marriage has
always kept the dream alive that she and Gatsby would reunite. Before her marriage Daisy
actually tried to make the dream a reality by visiting Gatsby, Her mother had found her packing
her bag one winter night in New York and say good by to a soldier who was going over seas.
(75). This is a prime example of Daisy and how her being a hopeless romantic had previously
persuaded her to go to Gatsby and the past is now repeating and she wants to go back to Gatsby
again. Myrtle on the other hand certainly is not a hopeless romantic, but has an affair based
mostly power, wealth, and social status. Tom and Myrtle met on a train car and they had feelings
for each other from the start. One of the first things that Myrtle says about Tom is all about money,

actuality that can happen in the future. While research progresses to make genetic modification a
reality many up and coming parents think about the possibility to genetically modify their child
to create a greater overall human. Although creating a more improved human has benefits such
as greater increased resistant to diseases and medical conditions genetic modification, it will
cause an issue even larger which is a societal gap. A societal gap can cause a negative affect in
society which effects all races and cultures. This societal gap can all be caused because of the

Etruscan Origin
Etruscan people, who called themselves Rasenna, or Rasna were highly developed ancient
civilization culture and people in period after 8 century BC and originated from Villanova Iron
Age Culture. This Etruscan civilization is distinct from 768 BC to 264 BC in the North West
district of Apennine peninsula (Ancient Etruria or modern Tuscan district). There are no agreed
and settled versions about ethnic origin of Etruscan people. The most popular are following two
versions: 1. Etruscans are local people, who lived on Apennine peninsula. This was mentioned by
Dionysius of Halicarnassus (60BC 7AD). This version is not approved by modern archeology
researches. 2. This people and civilization were created as a result of three migration waves... Show

The studies revealed that DNA code of ancient Etruscan was close to that one of Anatolian
people of modern Turkey. The same time their DNA was more close to Anatolian population,
rather than southern Apennine peninsula (southern Italia ) population. That makes possible to
conclude the version of Etruscan origin due to combined waves of migration from east.
Francois Vase is a large Krater vase dating 570BC. It is competed in black figure pottery style. It
was discovered in 1845 in Etruria. It s 66cm high and covered with beautiful 270 human and
animal figures and labelled with 121 inscriptions. There are 6 friezes or registeres on the vase.
Many traditional illustrations of Greek Mythos are shown. These are Caledonian Hunt, Theseus
and athenians at Knossos, battle of Lapithes and Centaures, funeral Games of Patrokles, wedding
of Peleos and Thetis, Achilesus pursuit of Troiles, return of Gethestion to Olymp and many others
scenes of Greek Mythos. In my opinion the object is important as it is actually a kind of visual
book , etruscan comics. Animation media. Greek word Mythos means oral word, speech. But this
vase is a visual media representation. So it is an attempt to create visual media source. This vase
substituted books and cinema to ancient etruscans. It is an ancestor of modern books, cinema and

The Crucible Summary
The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller in 1953, is a fictional story based on historical facts of
the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Originally a hit Broadway play, The Crucible was later adapted
into film format. Miller s inspiration for The Crucible came from a brief anti Communist
movement led by Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin during the Cold War in the 1950s.
During this time, the American government conducted their own version of a witch hunt by
illegally investigating American citizens suspected of being Soviet sympathizers. Miller was
inspired to write The Crucible after his own arrest and after being one of many to be blacklisted in
Hollywood. Arthur Miller metaphorically compares the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials to the

This caused a mass flood of paranoia throughout the pious community, and soon, everyone is a
suspect of witchcraft. The innocent are scrutinized for associating with the devil and accused of
harboring malevolent intentions against their neighbors. The girls are then brought to court and
ordered to confess the names of the real witches in Salem that are responsible for the strange events
that were occurring. The girls named many men and women that were practicing magic to obtain
personal gains. Old conflicts involving property rights and money soon ignite within the community
and add more fuel to the accusations of witchcraft. Abigail also claims that Elizabeth Proctor, her ex
employer, is guilty of witchcraft. However, the community does not realize that John proctor,
Elizabeth s husband, had an affair with Abigail. No one suspects that Abigail is lying. As Elizabeth
is taken to jail, John vows to stand in court the next day and confess his affair with Abigail in order
to make the community and the courts understand that the accusations of witchcraft are false.
Unfortunately for John, Abigail s story caused hysteria to overcome common sense. Abigail then
points the finger at John on the grounds that he does not attend church faithfully and

  • 4. Tell Me, Forget Me Not By Hannah Neale Forget Me, Forget Me Not By Hannah Neale Foreword Alzheimer s Disease (AD) is a form of Dementia. Dementia is a depletion of mental ability caused by brain cells dying. However, many factors have been linked to the development of AD, and there is not yet a cure and the main cause is unknown. Most people develop AD over the age of 65. Alois Alzheimer first found AD in Germany during 1901. Although not much attention was paid to the disease at the time, AD is becoming an increasing worry in our society due to the ageing population. Introduction For this Assignment, my intention is to examine a range of current treatments used for AD and to compare their effectiveness in terms of improving the quality of life for the patient. This has a significant effect on pharmacologists in terms of determining the best treatments to help narrow down the most suitable drug for treating AD. Antipsychotics Neuroleptics are the typical antipsychotics used for treating AD and other disorders. Neuroleptics work by blocking dopamine receptors found in the mesolimbic stratal mesocortical systems of the brain. In a controlled study, 59% of patients on neuroleptics and 41% of those taking the placebo saw a decrease in mental distress. This suggests that there was a minor improvement in the patients quality of life, due to treatment with these drugs. (Juillerat Mahwah, A C. et al, 2003) However, the level of improvement of the patients AD varied in the study, which was not taken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Ryan s The Flies Similar to a circle, Ryan s face is rounded just enough for his Aunt to love it. Despite a chubby face and fingers, his body is small. Fragile. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy learning new concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A roof is nothing more than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a door and Ryan has drawn a squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three. Ryan understands these concepts, because they re easy to control. Understandingbecomes hard when the shapes are replaced by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people. Why is it hard to be understanding towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself into someone else s shoes and say they had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too simpleminded to understand? Or, is it because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away by someone else s life. If they refuse to accept my world, then why should I try to understand theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them, but also me, feel frustrated as well. I know how it feels to be unheard. I know how it feels to have someone watch me talk, but ignore my words; like I wasn t there to begin with. • 6. The Respiratory System Essay The respiratory system is the process responsible for the transportation and exchange of gases into and out of the human body. As we breath in, oxygen in the air containing oxygen is drawn into the lungs through a series of air pipes known as the airway and into the lungs. As air is drawn into the lungs and waste gas excreted, it passes through the airway, first through the mouth or nose and through the pharynx, larynx and windpipe also known as the trachea. At this point it then enters the lungs through the bronchi before finally reaching the air sacs known as alveoli. Within the lungs, through a process known as diffusion, the oxygen is transferred to the bloodstream through the alveoli (air ducts) where it is then transported inside... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the alveoli, the oxygen is transferred to the blood whilst simultaneously collecting waste carbon dioxide for excretion as we breath out. This transference is known as diffusion and is linked to the cardiovascular system. Diffusion is an automated process by where the levels of oxygen, water and carbon dioxide pass over a semi permeable membrane between the walls of the cells and blood vessels to create a level environment. This membrane only allows these three elements to pass whilst retaining other elements such as blood cells, hence semi permeable. The high concentration on one side of the cells transfers through this membrane until the level is equal on both sides. The human body comprises of two respiratory sponges called lungs. The left lung is slightly smaller than the right as it makes room for placement of the heart. Due to this slightly smaller size, it only contains two lobes whereas the right lung has 3 lobes. Both lungs are host to the network of air sacs or alveoli which transport the air from the outside environment to the external and internal respiration processes. As we breathe in, the muscles in the chest wall force the thoracic area, ribs and connective muscles to contract and expand the chest. The diaphragm is contracted and moves down as the area inside the chest increases as air enters the lungs. The lungs are forced open by this expansion and the pressure inside the lungs becomes enough that it pulls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Franchise In the modern world of entrepreneurship, motivated men and women are faced with the task of either creating their own business or taking on the marks and practices of another existing brand. The latter is franchising, and it presents a host of benefits and possible disadvantages to the aspiring inquirer. A franchise, by definition, is a binding, legal contract that enables the rights, marks, and other notable elements of a given brand, referred to as the franchisor, to be used by a second party the franchisee (What is Franchising?, n.d.). Further expanding the opportunities available to new and veteran entrepreneurs is that franchises come in two distinctly different types: product distribution franchises and business format franchises.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also prudent to consider that the franchise fee can be indicative of the level of trust. The amount of trust a franchisor hold with their franchisees can, at times, mitigate overall costs involved, lowering the risk for prospective franchisees (Herz, Hutzinger, Seferagic, Winsperger, 2016). To illustrate this, the initial franchise fee is lowered for existing franchisees and those seeking a successive contractual term. Furthermore, an excess of trust is shown on behalf of the SHOPPE COMPANY, as one would imagine the initial fee ($10,000) would outsize the secondary ($20,000) to lower the risk of delinquent payments and ensure the commitment of the applicant. Additional costs are required over the lifespan of the franchisee outlet, and are left to the discretion of the franchisor. Royalty payments and advertising fees are commonplace in franchise agreements, and are unsurprisingly present here. The SHOPPE COMPANY requires a royalty payment of 4% of weekly gross profits, which are to be reported every Monday (Sample Franchise Agreement, 2006, p.11). Advertising fees present themselves as both GENERAL MARKETING CONTRIBUTIONS (GMC) and LOCAL MARKETING CONTRIBUTIONS (LMC). 1/12th of the required annual GMC (never less than $3,000) is to be paid every month, while the LMC amounts to only 1% of weekly gross profits (pp. 13 14). • 11. Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was captured was Mr. John Smith. While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John Smith s men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass. After capturing him, ... He indicated the details of a social map which consist of Genetic determinism (Ancestors), Psychic determinism (Parents) and Environment determinism (Boss or something in the environment). The proactive concept was explained further using the Stimulus and Response relationship and the catalyst story of Viltor Frankl. So the place to begin building any relationship is inside ourselves, inside our Circle of Influence, our own character. Stephen further recollected an incidence he had with his two sons to explain what attending to little things meant. To him, Small discourtesies, little unkindnesses, little forms of disrespect make large withdrawals in our lives. In relationship for instance, the little thing are the big things. Keeping commitments, Clarifying expectations, showing personal integrity, apologizing sincerely when we make a withdrawal from our emotional bank are important things to do to make deposits in to our emotional banks. Covey mentioned that, with the paradigm of the Emotional Bank Account in mind, we re ready to move into the habits of Public Victory, or success in working with other people. Habit 4: Think win win (Principles of Interpersonal leadership) Under this heading, Covey narrated his personal experience at work with a company and at the end he noted that, whether you are the president of a company or the janitor, the moment you step from independence into interdependence in any capacity, you step into a leadership role. You are in a position of influencing other people. And the habit of effective interpersonal leadership is to think win win. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The top three global security trends that will influence our National Military Strategy in the next four to ten years are proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, cyberwarfare, and emerging technologies. These three trends directly influence operating environments and impact future Joint Force capabilities and capacity. Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) by both state and non state actors is an existential threat. North Korea s nuclear weapons and missile programs pose a serious threat to US interests and to the security environment (Coats, p.6). Cyberwarfare The strengthening of our advantage in the cyber domain directly influences the operational environment by preventing the degradation of the technological advantage we currently enjoy. Despite known and predicted risk, we currently have a 10:1 advantage over our nearest peer competitor China, as regards technology, research, and development. It is a fun filled, family friendly vacation place that everyone will enjoy and it is worth the drive. Ocean City has a lot of history to go with it, the first hotel was built by Isaac Coffin in 1869, it was the first beachfront cottage to receive paying guests, who came to fish, relax, enjoy the beauty of the ocean, and enjoy the sand. Ocean City extends nearly 10 miles from the southern inlet to the Delawareline. Now there are hotels, motels, apartments, houses, and condos. Ocean city expanded when the Chesapeake Bay bridgewas finished, by the 1970 s there were big businesses and more apartments being built. Ocean City is located near Fenwick Island, near the Delaware line. On the bridge, you get a beautiful view of the bay and you see boats going all around you and under you. It is a three to four hour drive depending on traffic. Here, the same two difference components were evident but were followed by a series of additional components that were absent in the first two phases of the experiment. The dumper carries the material which is loaded from the site, where the material is initially stored. It is then loaded to the dumper and transported to the required site and then unloaded. The major issues raises over here, the incompatibility of the site with the fully loaded dumper causes a lot of settling time for the trolley to get the material properly arranged and transportation time to reach its location. The dumper unloads the material in only one direction. But this incapability can be fulfilled by a new method mechanism as the unidirectional dumper. This mechanism is an approach to reduce the idle time to settle the dumper. The material is unloaded in any direction and hence can be boldly stated as Unidirectional Dumper. The major outcomes of unidirectional dumper has overcome space requirement which often result in road blocking. Hence, we have inversion in the existing mechanism providing the unloading in 1800 rotations. This mechanism prevents blocking of road, saves time and enhances productivity at lowest cost. This is a representation of McTeigue presenting a realist style to the audience through elements and characters within the film through the effective usage of colors. The usage of costume (with regards to the mis en scene) played an integral role in McTeigue presenting a realist style to the audience. In the sequence we are presented where Evey works, we are exposed to an individual who is dressed differently than anyone else. This symbolizes someone who is different from everyone else (Evey is the only individual wearing a non business casual outfit; wears a blouse) with regards to her position in her workplace. This eventually becomes true as Evey s life completely changes when V visits her workplace and makes a broadcast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The long shots and point of view shots were used so that we can have an idea as to who such characters are and how their lives are. For example, in the sequence where the ruler of England is introduced to the audience, the usage of long shots allows us to understand these particular characters and what they do. In addition, we are able to deduct that these five individuals are to be considered as top aides to the ruler of England. Even though they possess a sense of authority, they are still below/under the ruler of England. This was demonstrated through the camera s angling. In this same sequence the camera angle is at a low angle. This low angle is used to demonstrate the amount of power the ruler has over these individuals and over the country. The usage of closeups plays a role in the depiction as to how much power the ruler possesses. Close ups, when effectively used, can portray power. Because of this sequences frequent use of point of view shots, the audience is able to relate and to feel the same way the five characters feel during this sequence (feeling inferior to the ruler of England). This is a representation of McTeigue effectively using framing to depict a realist style towards viewers by allowing such viewers to relate to the character(s) and elements within the ... The Causes and Effects of Gender Imbalance in Asia The Causes and Effects of Gender Imbalance in Asia By Tom Farrer Throughout this paper I will focus on the phenomenon of the gender imbalance in Asia. I will begin by assessing the current situation and researching the various causes which have led to it. I shall then analyse the possible consequences to follow and conclude with an outlook to the future. According to the United Nations the recommended sex ratio at birth (SRB) for a country is 107, meaning that for every 100 females born, 107 males are born . The average SRB for industrialised countries lies between 104 and 106 , therefore looking at the figures for many Asian countries, we can see that something is clearly wrong. With many countries where the SRB is well above average, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of his more well known inventions is the ultra sound machine used for foetus scanning. Coming into widespread use throughout Asia in the mid 1980s, this machine enabled families to find out the sex of their unborn child and is therefore held responsible, to a considerable extent, for the gender imbalance. In order to combat the obvious effects of the ultra sound machine, the Chinese government has since prohibited its use for non medical sex identification (see the second section of the table below ), as has the Indian government in the Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (1994). Nevertheless, despite the prohibition of non medical sex identification and abortion in China, the floating and rural population and corruption among medical practices has made enforcing these laws difficult. The situation is similar in India, where illegal sex identification has become a lucrative business, despite the three year jail sentence for those found out. As in China, this punishment is also very difficult to enforce and, especially in rural areas, is often ignored by local police altogether. Therefore, the Chinese government has introduced different initiatives to combat the gender imbalance, one of which is the Care For Girls Campaign. Poll Tax In Henry Thoreau s Resistance To Civil Government Poll Tax Poll tax, meaning a fee that has to be paid to satisfy taxpayer requirements in voting laws, and that the only people who demonstrate financial tie to community were permitted for this kind of voting, was the reason Henry Thoreau was arrested and sent to jail for the night. While in jail, he realized that what had just happened to him was not right and needed to do something about it. The next day a friend of his which happened to be his aunt paid his texas meaning he was free to go. Believe it or not, Thoreau refused to be let out and wanted justice for what was illegally happening. Which is why he wrote Resistance to Civil Government so everyone would read and know what was actually going on. I believe that he presents an effective argument and fights for what he knows is right, which involved poll tax, civil disobedience, and unjust laws. One of Thoreau s strong argument points had to do with the whole situation of the poll tax. He didn t see the need in people paying tax for something that they don t agree on nor want. He stopped paying poll tax about six years ago because he believed that it supported the Mexican American war and the expansion of slavery into the Southwest which he did not agree on. To sum up Snowden s quote, one person believes that privacy rights do not matter because they have nothing they need to hide, while the other states they don t need freedom of speech because they don t have anything they want to vocalize. While the two, at first, may seem to have nothing in common because of the two vastly different subjects they are speaking about, they are actually both including the same topic in their statements their rights along with the rights of others. The college classroom is now home to a generation that has been raised with so much technology that they are accustomed to multitasking and interruptions (Rosen,Lim,Carrier, and Cheever, 2011). In A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful Edmund Burke writes, It is the nature of grief to keep its object perpetually in its eye, to present it in its most pleasurable views, to repeat all the circumstances that attend to it . Burke s writing attempts to clarify the pictorial, literary, cultural, economic and psychological phenomenon of sublimity, explicating the ways in which power, vastness, obscurity and beauty intersect to form emotional response. A Philosophical Enquiry elucidates why so many Romantic poets and writers would make grief, mourning and death the subjects of their works; the limitless, obscure, infinite theme death corresponds to the existential, contemplative and introspective ideas Romantic writers were attempting to interrogate. But the subject of death in Romantic literature transcends the topic of corporeal death and explores the death of memory, of youth, of innocence and of the past. Furthermore, the Romantic writers were grappling with a shifting, changing society that caused a sense of pervasive loss in their works; as artists, authors and the population attempted to navigate a society characterized by political revolution and technological innovation, poems about mourning act as almost consolatory works. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans, circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of our founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised! Americans tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in ... • 41. The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,... Introduction Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000 islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells (Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain styles being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000). Balinese gamelan is the main element of Indonesian traditional music as well as belonging to the sacred elements of their culture. Throughout the following investigation, the style of Balinese gamelan will be analysed through its history, beliefs and values, musical elements, cultural effects and future observations. what will I discuss/address I will then provide context to this by... • 42. Essay On The Loyalist Party As Americans, we have the liberty to rebel against British control after they imposed taxes on us following the French and Indian War. Constant tension between Great Britain and America, shall prompt acts of rebellion and a divide in our mindset. ask that you allow me to explain why I do not support the Loyalist Party. In Britain s attempt to pay for their war debts, they have implemented many changes such as a form of government that is far more suitable for their society than American colonies. Our sore under representation in Parliament and expectation to pay high taxes, will not result in favorable outcomes. I believe that as Americans we have complete right to independence without the influence of British military or government, nor should we be in charge of paying for British war debts. We, should not be governed under British rule simply under the account that we share a similar language and culture, nor are we in need of military protection on behalf of the British. I, Samuel Adams, along with my men, will do everything in our power to demand justice for American colonists. • 43. 1 9 †To what extent can preparedness and planning mitigate... A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity. This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public education to set up these stations. In Montserrat their where no levels of monitoring at all due to Before 1995 there was no record of the volcano on Montserrat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard such as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics you can only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with dam wall trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which started on 23 January. Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they might not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen as they didn t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000 people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have been ad the results where horrific. This is one example of how poor education and different situation can greatly increase the hazard. The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment affects the hazard. In Armero two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Suspense in Jekyll and Hyde Essay How suspense is built up in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis Stevenson was born on the 13th November 1850. He wrote Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886, with that 40,000 copies of the book were sold in the first six months. This was designed to mirror the Victorian secret and based on good and evil. Stevenson later died in 1894 in Samoa. Stevenson used the contemporary setting of Victorian London to write his gothic horror novel. The streets with the gas lamps were the perfect setting following the true horrific stories of Jack the Ripper. He refers to Mr Hyde well as he wanders the streets of London not knowing who he s going to meet. The elements in gothic horror include irony, movement, time, senses, horrific... More clues are revealed to everyone over the book for example, Dr Lanyon s letter tells people some shocking facts about Dr Jekyll and that is when people start to suspect things. At the end of the book, Dr Jekyll retells the whole story in a narrative style which explains everything about Jekyll and Hyde and that Jekyll would kill himself after he wrote the letter. That is when the book ends. This shows how suspense is built up. Stevenson sets the scene and creates the mood in the book, from the very beginning; he does this by using the devices of gothic horror. He uses zoom lens a lot in the third to last chapter. The last night ; it goes into heavy detail about the Laboratory and the surroundings of it. The candle was set upon the nearest table creates a picture in the readers mind about all the visual aids in the area. He describes it so well; you could almost go into the Laboratory and navigate yourself around it with great ease. This shows how suspense is built up. That evening refers to time phrases. I think is what makes the book so well and so popular. This also makes the book flow so well, so the reader can understand the book well enough to keep reading without getting lost. It also helps the reader visualise the time of day it is, so that refers to zoom lens again. This shows how suspense is built up. Daisy And Myrtle Wilson In The Great Gatsby Looking at first glance the wealthy and dainty Daisy Buchannan, Gatsby s object of worship, seems to be completely opposite Myrtle Wilson, a lewd and vulgar woman whom is married to the mechanic George Wilson and whom was actually having an affair with Daisy s husband. If you look at the motives and personalities of these two mistresses you will see that both of then had an attraction for men other than their husbands; although, their desires for other men were not necessarily for the same reason. The studies revealed that DNA code of ancient Etruscan was close to that one of Anatolian people of modern Turkey. The same time their DNA was more close to Anatolian population, rather than southern Apennine peninsula (southern Italia ) population. It is competed in black figure pottery style. It was discovered in 1845 in Etruria. It s 66cm high and covered with beautiful 270 human and animal figures and labelled with 121 inscriptions. Originally a hit Broadway play, The Crucible was later adapted into film format. Miller s inspiration for The Crucible came from a brief anti Communist movement led by Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin during the Cold War in the 1950s. During this time, the American government conducted their own version of a witch hunt by illegally investigating American citizens suspected of being Soviet sympathizers.
