Statistics Overview
Statistics provides us with very useful tools and techniques that aide us in dealing with real world
scenarios. I have been able to learn several useful concepts by studying statistics that can aide me in
making rational and informed decisions that are supported by the analysis results. Statistics as a
discipline is the application and development of various processes put in place to gather, interpret,
and analyse the information. The quantification of biological, social, and scientific phenomenons,
design and analysis of experiments and surveys, and application of ... Show more content on

Each statistic in the descriptive form lowers the quantity of data into a much simpler summary.
Inferential Statistics Inferential statistics helps us to analyze predictions, inferences, or samples
about a specific population from the observations that they make. With inferential statistics, you
are trying to reach conclusions that extend beyond the immediate data alone (Trochim, 2006).
The goal for this type of data is to review the sample data to be able to infer what the test group
may think. It does this by making judgment of the chance that a difference that is observed
between the groups is indeed one that can be counted on that could have otherwise happened by
coincidence. In order to help solve the issue of generalization, tests of significance are used. For
example, a chi square test or T test provides a person with the probability that the analysis sample
results may or may not represent the respective population. In other words, the tests of significance
provides us the likelihood of how the analysis results might have happened by chance in a scenario
that a relationship may not exist between the variables in regards to the population that is being
studied.

Improper Inhaler Technique
Project Title: Whether educate patients on pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) technique at
community pharmacy improves patients asthma control
Introduction
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, which requires treatment using
bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. Inhalation route is the most direct and efficient way to
deliver high amount of drugs to the airways with least systematic side effects. Improper use of the
inhaler device is one of the most common reasons for poor asthma control as it can reduce
effectiveness and the amount of drugs reaches to the airways (AL Jahdali et al. 2013). SIGN
(2016) and NICE (2013) recommend that when initiate any new inhaler, patients should be trained
on proper inhaler ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2013) addressed the severity caused by improper inhaler technique. In the study, majority patients
were using pMDI and almost half of the sample population did not receive education on inhaler
technique by any healthcare providers. Patients without any education were more likely to use
inhaler improperly and improper inhaler technique led to irregular follow ups, poor asthma control
and more emergency department visits. Therefore, inhaler technique education is crucial for asthma
patients. Llic et al. (2016) conducted a study assessing the influence of dry powder inhaler
technique education on the control of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
During the study, patients visited pulmonologists once a month for 3 months, at each visit patients
were educated on inhaler technique and the pulmonologists assessed patients disease control using
the global assessment. The result from the study showed that patients obtained significant
improvement in inhaler technique and disease control after each visit at the pulmonologists. This
study further supported the importance of inhaler technique education on respiratory disease
control and suggested that educate patients on inhaler technique should be considered to achieve
better disease control. On the other hand, there were studies that investigated the role of
pharmacists on patients inhaler technique education and the benefit from it. Giraud et al. (2011)
conducted a study aiming to investigate the possibility of inhaler training by pharmacists and the
impact on asthma control. The study result showed that the majority patients did not receive
optimal inhaler technique education from the prescribers before pharmacists counselling. However,
Patients had improved in inhaler technique and asthma control after pharmacists educational
intervention. Moreover, inhaler training by pharmacists took relatively short period of time, which
could match with daily practice.

William Shakespeare Legacy
To be, or not to be; that is the question. You ve probably heard this quote several times throughout
your lifetime. It was written by a well known English writer in 1599. William Shakespeare was
an honored English play writer, poet, and actor who incorporated many new words into the
English language, and now known famously for several of his poems, plays, songs, and quotes
such as the one previously stated. Shakespeare s career has left its mark on today s society; his
legacy continues to impact us today Shakespeare was born around April 23rd, 1564. There is no
way for us to know his birth date for sure, but there is evidence that he was baptized on April 26th,
1564 in Stratford upon Avon. William s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems as if he knew his final months were arriving, as he went over his will and decided to
leave his fortune to his two daughters, Judith and Susanna. He also left different gifts and
wealth to several of his friends, his sister, his theatre friends, and the citizens of low income in
Stratford. He passed away on April 23rd, 1616 in his hometown. His death still remains a
mystery to this day. His legacy is one that will forever leave an impact on our world, as he left
behind 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and two narrative poems that are taught in schools everywhere
today. Shakespeare is recognized as one of the greatest playwrights in the English language which
is a huge legacy to leave behind. It is not the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.

Introduction. Throughout The Course Of One’S Academic And
Introduction
Throughout the course of one s academic and professional career, one will be required to create,
present, and receive needed information via numerous presentations which utilize slide deck
software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Apple s Keynote. In this project, I will
discuss the effective use of these applications to create presentations which effectively utilize
elements of visual design to effectively communicate with an audience. My interest in this topic
comes from my experience as both a student and a professional. In these capacities, I have regularly
experience both the audience and the presenter side of slide shows and I have seen how this method
of disseminating information can both excite and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technology has given anyone with basic computer knowledge the ability to create multimodal
blended structure slide decks, and then distribute this media throughout the internet. I utilized The
Non Designer s Design Book because it emphasizes the four basic principles of good visual design,
which can easily be applied to create slide based presentations. These four principles include
contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. The proper implementation of the principles are key
to the creation of an effective slideshow presentation. Another influential reading from our course
which I am able to apply to my project is Visual Language for Designers. The main points I take
from this reading, which are applicable to this project are the idea of minimalism in a low fidelity
visual and the idea of reducing the quantity of elements in a visual.
For this project, I also utilized other sources which dealt directly with the effective use of visual in
presentations. One valuable project resource was a 2014 TEDx talk given by David JP Phillips
entitle How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint. The main points taken from this source include the
limitation of one topic per slide, the importance of the size of visuals in presentations, the ability to
capture the attention of an audience with the effective use of

Philosophy Of Special Education
It is believed that all students have specific, varying needs and learning styles. As an educator, it is
my duty to meet the needs of every individual and make accommodations; especially in regards to a
student with an exceptionality. Special education should not be a separate division of a school but
rather an integral piece to complete the entire structure. Students with exceptionalities should be
given the exact opportunities that an able bodied student would have in areas such as, but not
limited to, educationand extracurriculars. They should be encouraged to participate with their
fellow peers and build relationships with students of all personalities and characteristics.

CHILDREN IN MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN EUROPE
Play
Children in medieval Europe played they same way as children before them and the children that
came after continued to play as those before had. Pieter Bruegel the Elder s painting, Children s
Games, painted in 1560, depicts children running around chasing each other, children playing with
hoops and sticks, girls are playing with dolls, children are dressing up and boys are engaging in
rougher play, play fighting. Children would often be found playing on the village green, in the

Children during the period would entertain themselves with games such as tag and follow the

would give children toys related to their future careers, for example if a young boy was to be a
farmer, he would be given toy animals. Due to high mortality rates children could not expect all of
their playmates to survive to adulthood. Due to the shorter life expectancy of people during this
time childhood and play were often cut short as early adolescents would start work. Children would
learn through play and prepare themselves for adulthood. Although they were not too interested in
the intricacies of adult life they were interested in mimicking various aspects of it such as staging
weddings, pretending to fight and creating their own play food. Children would enjoying listening

The Use Of Satire And Humor Is A Vital Function Of Our...
Satire and Humor is a Vital Function of our Society Humor and satire is an entertaining and
extremely effective method for highlighting social ideologies, challenging a governmental system
or an organization, exposing injustice, and encouraging positive change in perspective. In his book,
Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton asserts that humorists are a vital part of society as they are always
successful in communicating, conveying, and delivering their message or idea to the public and the
community. Humorists and satirists have demonstrated their vital role in inspiring freedom of
speech and thought, which motivates progressive changes, in political election campaigns hosted
on TV almost daily, and in Mark Twain s satire of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Comedians occasionally and intentionally use offensive and insulting comments to get their
message across, however, these statements normally include protected opinions and beliefs about
certain issues and global topics. By orally speaking or writing their ideas and beliefs, satirists and
comedians act as an example for the public to use their freedom of speech and... Show more content

Land reform: involves the changing of laws, regulations or customs regarding land ownership.
Land reform may consist of government initiated or government backed property redistribution,
generally of agricultural land. Land reform can, therefore, refer to transfer of ownership from the
more powerful to the less powerful, such as from a relatively small number of wealthy owners with
extensive land holdings such as plantations, large ranches, or agribusiness plots to individual
ownership by those who work the land (Rosegrant Hazell 2000).
Land reform may also entail the transfer of land from individual ownership even peasant
ownership in smallholdings to government owned collective farms; it has also, in other times and
places, referred to the exact opposite: division of government owned collective farms into
smallholdings. For example, in Zimbabwe this process of land reform is in progress whereby the
government is take land to the white and gives it to the black native Zimbabwean and the
government is trying to do this to make sure that poor people do have land to cultivate hence
reducing poverty since the large area of land was controlled by the whites.
Another issue is of land tenure reform which is also under the same land reform program. Land
tenure is system how land is owned. It is important for the government to put policies

Analysis Of Arlie Hochschild s Theory Of Emotional Labour...
Introduction (150 words)
Though emotional labour is a rather modern phenomenon it still occurs in the profession of nursing
which has been around for centuries. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how nurses are
obligated to perform emotional labour and the impacts involved. This paper focuses on the different
methods of emotional labour, including surface acting and deep acting, amongst the effects and
outcomes that occur consequently. It will first analyze and explain Arlie Hochschild s theory of
emotional labour. Next it will demonstrate that nurses are constantly performing emotional labour
throughout their job, whether through surface acting or deep acting and methods involved. Then, it
will demonstrate the effects of nurses performing emotional labour and the outcomes emotional
labour produces. Emotional labour amongst its methods are heavily evident in the nursing
profession and the performance of such results in various negative consequences. This is due to the
difficulties involved in the behaviors of managing emotions in a specific manner.
Part I Hochschild s Theory of Emotional Labor (500 words)
This section will primarily focus on analyzing Hochschild s theory of emotional labour amongst the
three main characteristics it entails. It will first define emotional labour which will be followed by
an explanation of the three characteristics involved. The topics covered are quite relevant because it

February 1917 Dbq Analysis
In the twentieth century many Europeans liked the idea of having a totalitarian government. The
people in Europe found this to be somewhat comforting. They knew that things would be okay if
everything was controlled. Part of this was the idea all for one and one for all . For this to work out,
there were things that had to be contributed to the governments. There were economic, social, and
political conditions that helped to transition from the current governmentthat they were using to the
totalitarian government. In March 1917, there was a Revolution in Russia that started to change

have started a fire in the workers eyes. The workers were willing to fight back against the bosses

Democracy definitely had some political struggles, but to say that they had more extreme

bosses not caring about them, long hours and getting paid little to nothing. It would be much
easier for this class to have some kind of power if the country they were in had a backwards

Whenever I make these excursions, the question always arises in my head, why do people desire
having so much of something? It seems like it is in the blood of Americans to want to be great
and have a large quantity of something. It isn t necessarily a superiority complex, but it very
much seems like the definition of the stereotypical American dream to be able to say that I

Mistakes In Medical Field Essay
Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we

mistakes I have made in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an

Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a physician was not initially met with academic

Scott Russel Sanders The Men We Carry in Our Minds
In The Men We Carry in Our Minds, Scott Russel Sanders tries to show how his views on men
are completely different from the views that some women hold. He traces the problem to the
country surroundings of his youth. He explains that the men he observed as a child were
completely different from the men whom most women might observe. The differing viewpoints
between him and the women he met in college caused him some grief. However, it was not so
much an issue of gender, but an issue of class.
The very first men Sanders reports having seen, apart from his father, were the convicts and guards

Sanders writes that he received a scholarship which allowed him to attend college. There he tells
us that he met many women who thought men were hoarding all of the delights of the world.
Sanders explains how he could not understand their thoughts. He writes about how he could not

did not have to go to war. Sanders admits now to conveniently ignoring some truly significant
disadvantages of being female, such as the realization that a home can become like a prison.

Feudalism In Cinderella
The French invaded the Rhineland, in what is now Germany, in 1792 during the French
Revolution. During this time, the French invaders pillaged towns, raped women, and destroyed
entire families. While the French believed that they were liberating the Germans from the yoke of
feudalism, (Large 629) they were really creating a bitter enemy of the German people who found
unity in hating anything French. This new found zealotry was exemplified during the Romanticism
period by writers such as the Grimm brothers. They believed that writing down these folk tales was
a way of accurately representing their German culture. Due to this deep seeded belief, they allude to
the French invaders of Germanyin Cinderellathrough the use of the evil stepsisters who invade
Cinderella s home. When the stepsisters arrive, Cinderella is forced to work from dusk to dawn
in her own house, but she is able to maintain her kindness. This image created through Cinderella s
struggle can be compared to that of the German people. The portrayal of the evil stepsisters as
France, Cinderella as Germany, and the Dove as the Holy Trinity, shows that the Grimm s version
of Cinderella acts not only as a story to entertain audiences but as a way to represent the German s
struggles against the French occupation of the Rhineland. The stepsisters that intruded into

Funny Country Songs
This is a Top 20 of the most awful, funny Country Music songs ever made. The following list is
an op ed, and is in no way a definitive list. As a matter of fact, there are far too many really
ridiculous country music songs to list, so, any and all lists, along with this one will be purely
speculative. That said, Country Music is a most peculiar genre of musical entertainment. Artists
therein often sing about the most mundane aspects of life, and living. Songs usually include words
like beer, cheating, cowboys, lying, trailers, trucks, whiskey etc. Rest assured, I would never ever
recommend listening to country music to anyone, whether they be friend or foe. In fact if I were

Auteur In Film Analysis
Question 8: Take one contemporary director and analyse in detail, discuss and debate how they can
be considered to be an auteur. In your discussion refer to the different ways auteur have been
discussed in film studies.
Introduction:
The term of an auteur has been discussed ever since 1950s and even today it is still as much as
evaluative, as it is also pretty vague and unclear. Many scholars and film studies academics took
this topic into consideration and many of them came up with similar, but significantly different
conclusions or felt that some aspect of already existing theories had to be deepened and
expanded. Nevertheless, even today who is an auteur and who can say so, leads to a very heated

Descriptive Essay On Monument Valley Discovery
A trip to visit Monument Valley took me through the mystifying canyons and desert flats of Utah
consecrated by the indigenous Navajo people for their natural beauty. I did not realize that my
journey on a winding road through the sovereign Navajo Nation would have such a profound effect
on me when I first arrived at Monument ValleyNavajo Tribal Park. Amidst the towering auburn
stones and fine sands, the Valley began to perform a ballad of whispering winds and endless sky.
This performance detailed the relationship between man and nature in Monument Valley and even
the largest lens cannot capture the landscape. I began to interpret Monument Valley (see
appendix A) and its importance to me as an example of true nature that I encountered early in my
childhood in movies. It was naive to believe that my childhood recollections of grayscale Western
films did it justice, so I set out on a journey to discover the landscape in person. While my original
memories will endure, the enchanting effects of the Valley of the Rocks on my soul is only
relivable amidst the great stones of the Colorado Plateau.
Revered across the world for its unique physical features, the Colorado Plateau (see appendix B)
has become synonymous with natural wonder. I took up the task of visiting the expansive area in
August of 2017 to as an odyssey of discovery, and immediately noticed the uniqueness of the
landscape. Upon arrival, it became clear that the Navajo cared for their natural spaces in a

Partnership is an arrangement between the parties and cooperates to carry on the business with

The Help by Kathryn Stockett Essay
The Help
The book , The Help by Kathryn Stockett, is about a women named Aibileen who is a black
maid. She is taking care of her 17th white baby now. She works for a woman named Miss
Leefolt. Aibileen has never disobeyed an order in her life and never intends to do so. Her friend
Minny is the exact opposite. When she is around her boss, she has to hold herself back from
sassing them all the time. Skeeter Phelan is different than the rest of the white ladies. She thinks
that blacks aren t all that bad. She decides to write a book about the lives of maids for white

create the solution to the main conflict. The main conflict in this case is blacks are being treated
in a way that is not fair. They are being treated as if they are disease carrying things. Skeeter
wants to change that perspective on people. That s why she wants to write a book on how black
maids are treated in Mississippi. I turn and hear Pascagoula s knock on my door. That s when

Early in the medieval times traders had transported all of their goods and trading assets by
animal driven carts rather than machine powered carts and wagons. With the invention of stirrups
and saddles, it had majorly improved horseback riding for longer trips, but with many people
being poor at this time, the equipment for horseback was very expensive, so it was pretty rare to
see people traveling long distances on horseback. On the other hand, people with more and heavier
goods usually had oxen pull the cart forward but at the expense of going much slower. With wagons

Decline
The decline of the Hanseatic League involved the breaking of the German monopoly, most
definitely in the Baltic Sea, and the level of intrest between towns. Loss of political development
surrounding the Baltic had lowered the intrest of Hanseatic consumers after Valdemar IV was
defeated. Most Hanseatic countries had broken off like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Poland,
and Lithuania. With the English and Dutch traders gaining experience from the Germans, they did
not need them anymore. In 1669, the Hanseatic League had ended.

How My Personal Experience And Culture Affect My Parenting...
I would categorize my parenting style as an authoritative because I show the characteristics listed
with this style. An authoritative parent is defined as being firm, setting clear and consistent limits,
but who try to reason with their children, giving explanations for why they should behave in a
particular way (Feldman Landry, 2017, pg. 172). I also want what s best by making sure Bebe Jay

I believe my experience and culture impact my parenting styles as well. My experience would be
the way my parents raised me, my mother was a authoritarian and my father was permissive. It
was an odd mix but it worked out well, my mother was very strict and I never disobeyed her
because I knew the consequences. She was not abusive, but she had her ways of making sure I did
what I was told and I appreciate it know as I look back. My father was permissive and was the one
who would let me get away with some of the things I did, for example if I snuck an extra cookie
from the jar he didn t mind. He had expectations of me to do what I was told but didn t yell or
ever get mad at me if I didn t. They complimented each other with parenting and it worked out
because all of my siblings grew up to be successful in different ways. The cultural aspect would
be growing up in a First Nations reserve, we have a sense of community and everyone was there
for each other s child and to help with whatever they needed. We were like a big family because
almost everyone was related in some way or another. I believe in the ways of discipline, teaching
children to respect women and elders especially but of course fathers and family as well. Also the
way of raising children in terms of giving them love because to us, children are gifts from the Great

whether or not early speech development is related to these statistics (Barbeau, et al., 2012). The

With regard to the autistic groups performance against Wechsler IQ matched and RPM matched

exceptional ability to sell fights with trash talk and back it up in the octagon with knockout after

incredibly high finish rate of 90%. Possibly his most memorable fight was when he knocked out
Jose Aldo for the featherweight championship at UFC 194. Aldo had been undefeated for almost

Anderson Silva is another very exciting fighter. He has finished 26 out of his 33 wins. In his

often wait for his opponents to attack before counter striking and knocking them out. These
abilities made him one of the most dangerous fighters to set foot in the octagon. Matt Hughes on

A Company Which Is Publicly Traded In The U.S. Is Required
A company which is publicly traded in the U.S. is required to submit the 10 K form to Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) once a year. The 10 K form is a comprehensive report of a
company s performance. This report is essential to an investor for evaluating a company s financial
health. For this assignment, I have chosen to consider Macy s Inc. 10 K form and evaluate its
financial condition. I am going to discuss about Macy s Merchandise Inventories including the
inventorymethod used by Macy s, Cost of Sales to net Sales Ratio, Inventory Turnover and Days in
Inventory.
Macy s Inc. Merchandise Inventories
Merchandise Inventory is a material acquired by a retailer for the purpose of selling it to the third

Yet, it is legal under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Since the U.S. complies
with the GAAP guidelines, most of the retail industries use LIFO method of inventory.
Macy s Inc. reported merchandise inventories of $5506 millions and $5399 millions during the
financial year of 2015 and 2016 respectively (Macy s 10 K form, p. 60). This resulted in Macy s
merchandise inventory declining by $107 million ($5506 $5399 = $107) from 2015 to 2016. Thus,
the percentage decrease in inventory would be 1.94 %. Percentage Change = ($5399 $5506) $5506
x 100 = 107 5506 x 100 = 0.0194 x 100 = 1.94 %
Cost of Sales and Net Sales
Cost of Sales and Net Sales are another important component of an income statement for assessing
a company s financial health. As mentioned in Macy s 10K form, the cost of the sales and net sales
in 2015 were $16,496 millions and $27,079 millions respectively. Whereas the cost of sales and net
sales in 2016 were $15,621 millions and $25,778 millions respectively (p. 16). Therefore, the ratio
of cost of sales to net sales in 2015 would be 0.609 or 60.9% ($16,496/$27,079 = 0.6091) and the
ratio of cost of sales to net sales in 2016 would be 0.605 or 60.5% ($15,621/$25,778 = 0.605). The
ratio of cost of sales to net sales is a part of ratio analysis, which is used to check the efficiency of
the business (Kumar, 2012). It is also used to calculate the gross

In Faulkner s Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, he talks about how the award was not an award to

earning the Nobel Prize to his writing and not to himself. His speech is a very important part of
history because it is such a humble speech and the things he talks about are very true about him as
a person. In Faulkner s short story, A Rose for Emily , the humbleness of his speech shows through,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Government Intervention
Nowadays, government intervention in the market system has been debated by economist, because

Poverty And The Effects Of Poverty
As a community guided by God, the Catholic Church is continually challenging its members and
other global communities to unite through charity, justice and subsidiarity to improve the
livelihood of those supressed by poverty. By definition, such poverty is detrimental to human rights
outlined in the Catholic Social Teachings (CSTs), and consequently, the Church has sought
immediate aid for these people. Due to the cyclical nature of poverty, actions of justiceare also being
encouraged to sustain its reversal. Ideologies of benefactor supremacy aim to be inhibited through
humility and the implementation of citizen led strategies to eradicate poverty. However, the human
nature presents recurrent barriers, deterring the success of social... Show more content on

These three principles decide the approach of the Church in the goal of poverty eradication.
Social justice begins with charity. Charity or the love [of] God above all things for his own
sake, and our neighbour as ourselves for the love of God (CCC 1822) calls Catholics to
prioritise the needs of the poor over those of the able to preserve dignity and protect life. Hence,
charity is an enactment of social justice. The invincibility of poverty stems from its ability to self
propagate (Townsend 1979). As a result, charity makes a worthy opponent as love grows through
love (DCE 18) mimicking this source of power. In addition, charity embraces truth (CIV 1) which
supports education, the central aspect of poverty reduction (Awan et.al. 2011; Cleveland 2014).
From an academic perspective, above all, the economic plight of the poor must be addressed to
prevent human suffering. Maslow s hierarchy of needs indicates that opportunity is debilitated (and
poverty is induced) primarily when physiological needs are withdrawn (Maslow 1943), justifying
economic poverty to be the single most urgent ... claim on the conscience (EJFA 86). Such warrants
the inaction of financial relief (i.e. mainstream charity) which the church has been involved in as
the largest charitable organisation (Regnerus 1998), contributing approximately six billion dollars
annually (Paton 2017). Since God is love (1 John

In chapter 10 Postman discusses the ways in which television has effected education. He uses the
example of Sesame Street quite a lot throughout the chapter. He begins by stating Sesame Street was
almost guaranteed to be successful with children due to the fact that having children learn through
essentially commercials is nothing new. While the show is educational it is still pure entertainment.
He continues of to say that Sesame Street actually goes against traditional book learningbut puts of
a front that it teaches children to love school. It does not teach children to love school, but rather to
love television. Going to a classroom is a place where the children can interact socially and the
television show isolates them, in a classroom

Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman Essay
Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman
Good Afternoon Ms. McCafferty, I made this appointment because I passionately believe that
the book, Life is so good written by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman should be on the Carey
booklist for Year 9 students. Life is so good is a magnificent part biography, part autobiography of a
103 year old black man named George Dawson who went to school to learn to read and write when
he was 98 years old.
George Dawson may be 103 but he can still walk without a cane and can remember his life with an
uncanny ability. That is why there is so much detail in this book. Life is so good tells of his hard
life from when he was only 6 years old and living on a farm in the outer region of a ... Show more

This is an example of how the black men in America were treated back then.
As the story progresses the reader is told that George has to work the fields because he s the oldest,
while his younger brothers and sisters get to go to school and learn to read and write. George lives
a life of working very hard and getting paid very little but his motto is:
Life is so good. I do believe it s getting better.
When George turns 18 he feels as though he has explore the land, so he simply packs up and
leaves, without a clue of where he s heading. After a train ride or two he ends up in Mexico where
he is all confused because whites and blacks are eating and talking together, and catching the same
buses and trains together as well. After living and dealing with segregation all his life this is
something completely different for him and he struggles to adjust to the new style of life.
As the story nears the end the past catches up with the present and it goes on to describe George
s dedicated student lifestyle. He writes: Every morning I get up and I wonder what I might learn
that day. You just never know. George also reflects on the attitude of people these days: People
worry too much. Life is good, just the way it is.
In summary I think this book would be a great book to go on the Carey booklist because it has
such unusual but effective style of writing which many Year 9 s would benefit from the exposure
to. It also gives today s

Taking a Look at Emerging Churches
Before plodding full steam ahead, it would behoove us to pin down some important definitions and
qualifiers. First the term emerging church. In 2006, at a lecture at Westminster Seminary, Scot
McKnight proffered that, there is no emerging church ...it is a movement, or a conversation. This
statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging
/emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by,
the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some
emergence. Indeed, there are now some churches that would willingly self identify (or allow
others to take the liberty of identifying them) in such a manner. More often than not, however, they
would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit).
Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some
respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and
therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. They
are, however, theological in the sense that they are all about having conversation (as they like to
put it) about Christian faith, mission and praxis in the context of the core classical Christian creeds.
In true post modernist style, they are willing to discuss the relevance, veracity and need for

Summary OfThe Dwelling In Fuchin Mountains
The Dwelling In Fuchin Mountains was created by Haung Dongwang. It s a hand painted scroll
using ink to paint during the yanug dynasty. This piece shows the area between Fuchin river, its
mostly He painted this peace in his later years. This piece gives you a feeling of a larger landscape
that could stretch even further than most would think. It makes me think of Fan Kauns Travelers
By Streams and Mountains. The compositions are different, but the idea of using a sort atmosphere
feeling that you get from a lot of Chinese ink painting. As author Hung Sheng explains Haung
Dongwang used many ink and brush techniques. Two of the main techniques shown are hemp fiber
textural strokes and alum head textural strokes. Hemp fiber strokes were mostly used to describe
boulders, while alum head strokes were mostly used small angular rocks on top of hills.
These painting techniques show the influences of master ink paintings done by Dong Yaung and
Jaurn. Huang s Dwelling in Fuchin Mountains shows not only that, but beautiful composition that
enhances the brush strokes. Daiost painting like this show off the purity of the landscape almost
like its untouched and seems like we re looking at a remote part of the world that no one else has
ever seen. Culture this painting shows something different than what we have seen in early
landscape painting in class or most American paintings after this time which depict the day or a
specific event. While Chinese painting showed a sort of journey

River Runs Through It Symbolism
The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative,
introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power
in his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman
Maclean captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot
River. Robert Redfords movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot
river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how
those shape his character and choices. A River Runs through Itencapsulates Norman s coming of
age through the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert
Redford s adaptation explores Norman s coming of age via his relationships with other people,
with the river as a secondary aspect.
Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, Eventually, all things merge into
one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters (119). In this statement, one is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean s
life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus,
he believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life
running through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the
river [his life] flows over generations of rock under which are, the words, and some of the words
are theirs (119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he
would grow up, in turn shaping him. Norman s life would have been very different had older
generations for example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of
other potential changes.
Finally, he is haunted by waters because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman
has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman s deep connection to the river, and how the
way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain
how he has grown accept his life. For Maclean, the river was

Emotional Intelligence And Outline The Principles Of Self...
Draft 2/07/2016 develop and use ei
Assessment 1
Question 1. Explain emotional intelligence and outline the principles of self regulation and self
awareness.
Emotional intelligence is the ability an individual has to one identify their own emotions as well as
others, two understand and manage these emotions successfully in self and others, with being able
to effectively manage yourself as well as your relationships.
Self awareness can be considered essentially the bread and butter of all other competencies, it
means having the ability to recognise and understand your own emotions while being aware of how
these can affect work and life. It is highly accepted that people whom are self aware of their
emotions are better able to guide their open lives , as opposed to those who do not this is just
another clear example of the importance of understanding and initiating emotional intelligence
through work or daily life.
As leaders whom practice self awareness, are able to not only have confidence in their ability, to
lead when facing difficult decisions or moments of dire stress in the workplace. Accepting and
knowing these feelings can ultimately provide the user with useful information about difficult
decisions when answers are not available through external sources.
Leaders must rely on their own feelings to achieve results, being self aware also provides the user
with the tools to assess their own strengths and limitations accurately, as they are completely honest

The Broken Head And The Real Friendship
The Broken Head and the Real Friendship The day had been perfect, till I got the call... I awoke
to the smell of light, fluffy pancakes slathered in maple syrup, and greasy, fat bacon, just how I
like it. Shea, come downstairs and eat! We have to leave by 10, My dad yelled from the kitchen.
Our cousins had invited us to go to their lake house at Cedar Creek Lake; we accepted with
enthusiasm because we had never seen it before. Coming right down. I shouted back to my dad.
Hopping out of bed, I pulled on my favorite t shirt and most comfortable shorts, stuffed some
clothes into a small duffel bag, and pounded down the stairs. We left at 11, late as usual. All five
of us squeezed in the silver Volvo, hip to hip, blasting country music as we ventured into the
Dallas suburbs. At 11:35 AM, my phone buzzed and Cammy Davis , my best friend Eliza s
mom, name lit up on the screen. This is odd, Cammy rarely calls me. Shouldn t Eliza call me
instead? Turning down the music, I answered the phone. Hey Cammy! What s up? I asked. Are
you in Dallas? She asked in a panicked voice, but I could hardly hear her because of the
cacophony from the other line. I wondered where she was. Burberry, Eliza s horse, bucked her
off and now Eliza is unconscious, she has been for the last six minutes. I am in an ambulance and
we are going down to Presbyterian Hospital, come if you want. I just thought you should know.
The line crackled then went dead. In a serious but quiet voice I

The A Vessel Of Power
A Vessel of Power
Open on a small, hot, loud, and crowded room; emphasis on the loud. The lights are low aside
from a glowing stage. Two gangly men are exuding energy and life off the stage and onto the
crowd. The mass of people at their feet are responding tenfold, dedicated fans who know every
word, every beat. They sing (or scream) along, I m trying, I m trying to sleep. But I can t, but I
can t when you all have guns for hands. The room is filled with unusual pairs: old and young, black
and white, poor and rich. Despite their differences, they are at home with each other, bound by their
shared interest in music and life. The song continues, and hundreds of hands shaped like guns fill
the small space between the heads and the ceiling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The language of an effective song inspires deeper thinking, puts a thought in a new perspective,
helps cement prior knowledge, opens the eyes of the audience. These lyrics aid in that ah ha
moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the
listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful.
The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few
sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio,
every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores
the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity
of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how
that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others
out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates
that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life
goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their
most popular song, House of Gold. The song is a simple ballad to the writer s mother promising to
take care of her: sweet, but not exactly thought provoking. Despite this, Vessel definitely exceeds the

Review of John Carlin s Invictus
Nelson Mandela is a man of destiny F.W. De Klerk (140). How did a man who spent 27 years in
prison change the hearts and minds of people who called him terrorist in chief? Is it possible for
one man s determination and careful planning change the direction of a country so set on the
norm? John Carlin tells the story of Nelson Mandela through the eyes of people close to him as
well as through the eyes of his enemies. Both friends and enemies portray just his presence as
overwhelming. Invictus tells the story of how Mandela used his overwhelming presence to unite a
country through the sport of rugby. The story begins on the morning of the 1995 Rugby World Cup
championship game. The rest of the book details how he got to that... Show more content on

Many right wing extremist were very upset at the prospect of these talks. Constand Viljoen was
a former overall commander of the SADF (South African Defense Force). He soon become the
leader of a group who called themselves the Volksfront. The Volksfront was a formation of many
right wing groups who had joined together for military purposes. Their main purpose was to not
allow the majority (blacks) to be able to vote. These Afrikaners had been taught their whole lives
that black people did not have the same rights as whites and had grown up in an apartheid society.
One day they decided to show their military prowess and marched to the World Trade Center.
Unsure of what to do the riot police (mostly Afrikaners) allowed the extremist into the building. No
shots were fired, but Viljoen had shown that he had forces ready to act. Mandela was very troubled
when he heard the account of that day and immediately requested a meeting with Viljoen. Once
again Mandela used his overwhelming presence and quelled the concerns Viljoen and people like
him had of the increasing likelihood of an ANC majority in parliament. After multiple meetings
with Viljoen, the only attacks that occurred did not include the entire Volksfront. Mandela was
proving that he could impress even the people who despised him the most, but he would later learn
that was not enough to unite a country.
The first multirace elections in South Africa were held in April of 1994. As expected the

BUS 308 Week 5 Final Paper RUNNING HEAD: Statistics Overview Statistics Overview Jennifer Shanley BUS 308 Statistics for Managers Professor Wells November 1, 2014 Statistics Overview Statistics provides us with very useful tools and techniques that aide us in dealing with real world scenarios. I have been able to learn several useful concepts by studying statistics that can aide me in making rational and informed decisions that are supported by the analysis results. Statistics as a discipline is the application and development of various processes put in place to gather, interpret, and analyse the information. The quantification of biological, social, and scientific phenomenons, design and analysis of experiments and surveys, and application of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each statistic in the descriptive form lowers the quantity of data into a much simpler summary. Inferential Statistics Inferential statistics helps us to analyze predictions, inferences, or samples about a specific population from the observations that they make. With inferential statistics, you are trying to reach conclusions that extend beyond the immediate data alone (Trochim, 2006). The goal for this type of data is to review the sample data to be able to infer what the test group may think. It does this by making judgment of the chance that a difference that is observed between the groups is indeed one that can be counted on that could have otherwise happened by coincidence. In order to help solve the issue of generalization, tests of significance are used. For example, a chi square test or T test provides a person with the probability that the analysis sample results may or may not represent the respective population. In other words, the tests of significance provides us the likelihood of how the analysis results might have happened by chance in a scenario that a relationship may not exist between the variables in regards to the population that is being studied. Hypothesis Development and Testing: Hypothesis testing and development provides a baseline for taking ideas or theories that were initially created by another person in regards to the markets, economy, or investing and then determining if the ... • 3. Improper Inhaler Technique Project Title: Whether educate patients on pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) technique at community pharmacy improves patients asthma control Introduction Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, which requires treatment using bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. Inhalation route is the most direct and efficient way to deliver high amount of drugs to the airways with least systematic side effects. Improper use of the inhaler device is one of the most common reasons for poor asthma control as it can reduce effectiveness and the amount of drugs reaches to the airways (AL Jahdali et al. 2013). SIGN (2016) and NICE (2013) recommend that when initiate any new inhaler, patients should be trained on proper inhaler ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2013) addressed the severity caused by improper inhaler technique. In the study, majority patients were using pMDI and almost half of the sample population did not receive education on inhaler technique by any healthcare providers. Patients without any education were more likely to use inhaler improperly and improper inhaler technique led to irregular follow ups, poor asthma control and more emergency department visits. Therefore, inhaler technique education is crucial for asthma patients. Llic et al. (2016) conducted a study assessing the influence of dry powder inhaler technique education on the control of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). During the study, patients visited pulmonologists once a month for 3 months, at each visit patients were educated on inhaler technique and the pulmonologists assessed patients disease control using the global assessment. The result from the study showed that patients obtained significant improvement in inhaler technique and disease control after each visit at the pulmonologists. This study further supported the importance of inhaler technique education on respiratory disease control and suggested that educate patients on inhaler technique should be considered to achieve better disease control. On the other hand, there were studies that investigated the role of pharmacists on patients inhaler technique education and the benefit from it. Giraud et al. (2011) conducted a study aiming to investigate the possibility of inhaler training by pharmacists and the impact on asthma control. The study result showed that the majority patients did not receive optimal inhaler technique education from the prescribers before pharmacists counselling. However, Patients had improved in inhaler technique and asthma control after pharmacists educational intervention. Moreover, inhaler training by pharmacists took relatively short period of time, which could match with daily practice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One valuable project resource was a 2014 TEDx talk given by David JP Phillips entitle How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint. Satire and Humor is a Vital Function of our Society Humor and satire is an entertaining and extremely effective method for highlighting social ideologies, challenging a governmental system or an organization, exposing injustice, and encouraging positive change in perspective. In his book, Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton asserts that humorists are a vital part of society as they are always successful in communicating, conveying, and delivering their message or idea to the public and the community. Humorists and satirists have demonstrated their vital role in inspiring freedom of speech and thought, which motivates progressive changes, in political election campaigns hosted on TV almost daily, and in Mark Twain s satire of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. For this to work out, there were things that had to be contributed to the governments. There were economic, social, and political conditions that helped to transition from the current governmentthat they were using to the totalitarian government. Scott Russel Sanders The Men We Carry in Our Minds In The Men We Carry in Our Minds, Scott Russel Sanders tries to show how his views on men are completely different from the views that some women hold. He traces the problem to the country surroundings of his youth. He explains that the men he observed as a child were completely different from the men whom most women might observe. The differing viewpoints between him and the women he met in college caused him some grief. However, it was not so much an issue of gender, but an issue of class. The very first men Sanders reports having seen, apart from his father, were the convicts and guards from the prison. He writes about the large contrast between the roles of toilers and ... The other exception he mentions was his father, who managed to obtain an office position, rising from his former job at a red dirt farm. Sanders says he could not find it imaginable that anybody he knew could ever become one of the men on television the politicians, the astronauts, the generals, the savvy lawyers, the philosophical doctors, the bosses who gave orders to both soldiers and laborers.... These professions were all very far off. Sanders writes that he received a scholarship which allowed him to attend college. There he tells us that he met many women who thought men were hoarding all of the delights of the world. Sanders explains how he could not understand their thoughts. He writes about how he could not see any pleasures that the men he knew of were hiding from women. It seemed the opposite to him. Sanders informs us that as a youngster, he even admits to having had envy for women. According to him, they held interest in the arts, did not have to pay bills, and most importantly, did not have to go to war. Sanders admits now to conveniently ignoring some truly significant disadvantages of being female, such as the realization that a home can become like a prison. Rafa being the favorite son, made him seem better than Yunior. After he was diagnosed with cancer, Rafa became angrier and more abusive with his girlfriends. One time Rafa got so angry at one of his girlfriends that he grabbed her around the parking lot by her hair making her pants go down and show her private parts . • 19. Feudalism In Cinderella The French invaded the Rhineland, in what is now Germany, in 1792 during the French Revolution. During this time, the French invaders pillaged towns, raped women, and destroyed entire families. While the French believed that they were liberating the Germans from the yoke of feudalism, (Large 629) they were really creating a bitter enemy of the German people who found unity in hating anything French. This new found zealotry was exemplified during the Romanticism period by writers such as the Grimm brothers. They believed that writing down these folk tales was a way of accurately representing their German culture. Due to this deep seeded belief, they allude to the French invaders of Germanyin Cinderellathrough the use of the evil stepsisters who invade Cinderella s home. When the stepsisters arrive, Cinderella is forced to work from dusk to dawn in her own house, but she is able to maintain her kindness. This image created through Cinderella s struggle can be compared to that of the German people. The portrayal of the evil stepsisters as France, Cinderella as Germany, and the Dove as the Holy Trinity, shows that the Grimm s version of Cinderella acts not only as a story to entertain audiences but as a way to represent the German s struggles against the French occupation of the Rhineland. The stepsisters that intruded into Cinderella s home are unmistakable allusions toward the French invaders of 1792. The Grimm s used some of the essential elements of nationalism when ... • 34. Poverty And The Effects Of Poverty As a community guided by God, the Catholic Church is continually challenging its members and other global communities to unite through charity, justice and subsidiarity to improve the livelihood of those supressed by poverty. By definition, such poverty is detrimental to human rights outlined in the Catholic Social Teachings (CSTs), and consequently, the Church has sought immediate aid for these people. Due to the cyclical nature of poverty, actions of justiceare also being encouraged to sustain its reversal. Ideologies of benefactor supremacy aim to be inhibited through humility and the implementation of citizen led strategies to eradicate poverty. However, the human nature presents recurrent barriers, deterring the success of social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These three principles decide the approach of the Church in the goal of poverty eradication. Social justice begins with charity. Charity or the love [of] God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbour as ourselves for the love of God (CCC 1822) calls Catholics to prioritise the needs of the poor over those of the able to preserve dignity and protect life. Hence, charity is an enactment of social justice. The invincibility of poverty stems from its ability to self propagate (Townsend 1979). As a result, charity makes a worthy opponent as love grows through love (DCE 18) mimicking this source of power. In addition, charity embraces truth (CIV 1) which supports education, the central aspect of poverty reduction (Awan et.al. 2011; Cleveland 2014). From an academic perspective, above all, the economic plight of the poor must be addressed to prevent human suffering. Maslow s hierarchy of needs indicates that opportunity is debilitated (and poverty is induced) primarily when physiological needs are withdrawn (Maslow 1943), justifying economic poverty to be the single most urgent ... claim on the conscience (EJFA 86). Such warrants the inaction of financial relief (i.e. mainstream charity) which the church has been involved in as the largest charitable organisation (Regnerus 1998), contributing approximately six billion dollars annually (Paton 2017). • 36. Photosynthesis Results Overall each student made progress. The lowest growth percentage was 5 percent and highest was 50 percent. The learning objective that students were the most successful with was: I can describe the process of photosynthesis. Two possible reasons for this success was we spent a lot of time reviewing plants and how they get their food. We also did a virtual lab that involved Elodea plants and students were able to see the relationship between plants and animals. Students also got extensive review practice in the area of photosynthesis. I also think the concepts involved in photosynthesis were a bit easier to master than those of cellular respiration. The work samples reflect that students had an easier time with photosynthesis and students received more practice in this area.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some reasons for this was because it is a complex process that is not as easy to picture as photosynthesis. I also struggled finding materials that could simplify it and as well as visual aids. It was also hard to get students to be interested in the material and some of the practice materials related more to photosynthesis. What I do differently is spend another full day just on cellular respiration and try to relate it more to the students. I think the food web activity that I did after the unit might have been good in this section because cellular respiration does help us as humans break down our food and create ... He uses the example of Sesame Street quite a lot throughout the chapter. He begins by stating Sesame Street was almost guaranteed to be successful with children due to the fact that having children learn through essentially commercials is nothing new. While the show is educational it is still pure entertainment. He continues of to say that Sesame Street actually goes against traditional book learningbut puts of a front that it teaches children to love school. It does not teach children to love school, but rather to love television. Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman Essay Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman Good Afternoon Ms. McCafferty, I made this appointment because I passionately believe that the book, Life is so good written by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman should be on the Carey booklist for Year 9 students. Life is so good is a magnificent part biography, part autobiography of a 103 year old black man named George Dawson who went to school to learn to read and write when he was 98 years old. George Dawson may be 103 but he can still walk without a cane and can remember his life with an uncanny ability. That is why there is so much detail in this book. Life is so good tells of his hard life from when he was only 6 years old and living on a farm in the outer region of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an example of how the black men in America were treated back then. As the story progresses the reader is told that George has to work the fields because he s the oldest, while his younger brothers and sisters get to go to school and learn to read and write. George lives a life of working very hard and getting paid very little but his motto is: Life is so good. I do believe it s getting better. When George turns 18 he feels as though he has explore the land, so he simply packs up and leaves, without a clue of where he s heading. After a train ride or two he ends up in Mexico where he is all confused because whites and blacks are eating and talking together, and catching the same buses and trains together as well. After living and dealing with segregation all his life this is something completely different for him and he struggles to adjust to the new style of life. As the story nears the end the past catches up with the present and it goes on to describe George s dedicated student lifestyle. He writes: Every morning I get up and I wonder what I might learn that day. You just never know. George also reflects on the attitude of people these days: People worry too much. Life is good, just the way it is. In summary I think this book would be a great book to go on the Carey booklist because it has such unusual but effective style of writing which many Year 9 s would benefit from the exposure to. • 39. Taking a Look at Emerging Churches Before plodding full steam ahead, it would behoove us to pin down some important definitions and qualifiers. First the term emerging church. In 2006, at a lecture at Westminster Seminary, Scot McKnight proffered that, there is no emerging church ...it is a movement, or a conversation. This statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging /emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by, the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some emergence. Indeed, there are now some churches that would willingly self identify (or allow others to take the liberty of identifying them) in such a manner. More often than not, however, they would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit). Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. They are, however, theological in the sense that they are all about having conversation (as they like to put it) about Christian faith, mission and praxis in the context of the core classical Christian creeds. In true post modernist style, they are willing to discuss the relevance, veracity and need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. River Runs Through It Symbolism The natural world has an unequivocal power to anything human to make one deeply contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to this power in his novella, A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river, Norman Maclean captures his journey from boy to man through his powerful connection to the Blackfoot River. Robert Redfords movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life, and how those shape his character and choices. A River Runs through Itencapsulates Norman s coming of age through the symbolism and parallels he draws between himself and the river, whereas Robert Redford s adaptation explores Norman s coming of age via his relationships with other people, with the river as a secondary aspect. Norman Maclean closes his novella with this powerful statement, Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. . . under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters (119). In this statement, one is the intangible conglomerate of Maclean s life experiences, thoughts, and memories. Maclean also uses the river to symbolize his life. Thus, he believes in the end, all his experiences and memories merge into one entity, with his life running through them. He then connects that his life is built upon those before him because the river [his life] flows over generations of rock under which are, the words, and some of the words are theirs (119). The people who came before him in his life shaped the environment in which he would grow up, in turn shaping him. Norman s life would have been very different had older generations for example, commercialized the river, industrialized the town, or made a plethora of other potential changes. Finally, he is haunted by waters because they contain the memories and words of everyone Norman has ever connected with. This demonstrates Norman s deep connection to the river, and how the way he understands his life is through the river, and without it, cannot find the words to explain how he has grown accept his life. Explain emotional intelligence and outline the principles of self regulation and self awareness. Emotional intelligence is the ability an individual has to one identify their own emotions as well as others, two understand and manage these emotions successfully in self and others, with being able to effectively manage yourself as well as your relationships. Self awareness can be considered essentially the bread and butter of all other competencies, it means having the ability to recognise and understand your own emotions while being aware of how these can affect work and life. It is highly accepted that people whom are self aware of their emotions are better able to guide their open lives , as opposed to those who do not this is just another clear example of the importance of understanding and initiating emotional intelligence through work or daily life. As leaders whom practice self awareness, are able to not only have confidence in their ability, to lead when facing difficult decisions or moments of dire stress in the workplace. I awoke to the smell of light, fluffy pancakes slathered in maple syrup, and greasy, fat bacon, just how I like it. Shea, come downstairs and eat! We have to leave by 10, My dad yelled from the kitchen. Our cousins had invited us to go to their lake house at Cedar Creek Lake; we accepted with enthusiasm because we had never seen it before. Coming right down. I shouted back to my dad. Hopping out of bed, I pulled on my favorite t shirt and most comfortable shorts, stuffed some clothes into a small duffel bag, and pounded down the stairs. We left at 11, late as usual. All five of us squeezed in the silver Volvo, hip to hip, blasting country music as we ventured into the Dallas suburbs. At 11:35 AM, my phone buzzed and Cammy Davis , my best friend Eliza s mom, name lit up on the screen. This is odd, Cammy rarely calls me. Shouldn t Eliza call me instead? Turning down the music, I answered the phone. Hey Cammy! What s up? I asked. Are you in Dallas? These lyrics aid in that ah ha moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful. The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio, every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life goals or on life itself.
