Plastic Bags Case Study
1. How strong is the evidence to support Dr. Splinter s arguments in favor of the plastic bag ban,
and what are the limitations of this evidence? Specific claims are that litter will be noticeably
reduced, the drainage system will be less prone to clogging, utilization of the landfill will be
reduced, and there will be fewer environmental hazards for endangered wildlife. What specific
information in the documents do you find compelling and why? Be sure to cite the information in
the documents as well as any other factors you considered that led you to this conclusion.
Dr. Splinter makes a strong argument that plastic bags should be banned. According to the 2011
report by the City of San Jose, their ban of plastic bags ended up in a ... Show more content on

There was a reduction of over 1600 plastic bags ending up in the local waterways, with plastic bags
being 3.2% of all litter found in the waterways, and they were previously 8.2% in 2011.
(SanJoseCA.gov, 2012). The ban on plastic bags seemed to greatly affect the city in a positive
way and did not appear to have a negative effect at all, despite protests by some locals and business
owners.
Of course, there are adjustments with any change in policy or law, but the plastic bag ban can
be one that can help the nature preserve, as well as the local area. Essentially costs may go up
initially, but in the long run, the city will save money in a variety of ways while helping to keep
wildlife safe, and waterways cleaner. Dr. Splinter s observation that a ban is necessary is a solid
argument and is one that the city should adopt.
2. How strong is the evidence for Mr. Shredder s arguments against the plastic bag ban, and what
are the limitations of this evidence? Specific arguments are that local businesses will lose sales,
empirical evidence does not indicate that the projected benefits of plastic bag bans will
materialize, the cost of purchasing reusable bags adversely impacts the poor, and the same
projected benefits of the plastic bag ban can be achieved by stronger recycling efforts. What specific

Sleep Paralysis Research Paper
Abstract
Sleep Paralysis is a rare type of sleeping disorder that not many people experience. There are
many people are unfamiliar with sleep paralysis and when a person experiences it for the first
time they mainly look to the supernatural. There are many scientists who are looking into the
science of this sleeping disorder and still have yet to discover the main cause of sleep paralysis. So
far, the main explanation for sleep paralysis is that your brain and body aren t on the same cycle,
thus causing the hallucinations. This paper will explain how the science of sleep paralysis is more
plausible than the supernatural stories people tend to believe. Definition of Sleep Paralysis

Isolated sleep paralysis is less horrifying than RISP because people who experience ISP only
experience it once in their lifetime, while people with RISP experience it multiple times.
Episodes of ISP last from one to two minutes and isn t much concern to people who have no sleep
disorders. Recurrent isolated sleep paralysis is often seen in people who suffer from narcolepsy
and their sleep paralysis episode last for an hour. It is most common to experience Hypnagogic

experience RISP when they are awakening or drifting into sleep also if they are laying on their

Evaluation Of A Lesson And A Mathematics Non Appraised Lesson
This essay closely reflects upon and evaluates two lessons taught within SE1. The school in which
these lessons were taught is a primary academy, which size is larger than average. The majority of
pupils are white British pupils but ethnic minorities are consistently increasing; the amount of EAL
children is significantly high. Ofsted graded the behaviour within school to be outstanding. The
class concerned is a year three class, in their summer term.
My SE1 targets include: To develop assessment techniques, to develop curriculum knowledge and
to develop the ability to meet the needs of all pupils through differentiation (appendix 1). The two
lessons which are going to be evaluated within this discussion includes a science appraised ... Show

However, differentiation is very important in helping children to become motivated and reach their
potential (Pollard, 2000) as children feel both sufficiently challenged yet are still able to complete
the work set. Although this view is currently being questioned within current reports as a new set of
pedagogy comes into place in some schools within mathematics entitled mastery, suggesting that
differentiation is becoming obsolete in mathematics for those who follow this program, as it
suggests the whole class to learn the same content at the same rate (NCETM, 2015).
The first lesson highlighted is a mathematics lesson taught within a streamed class, the lesson
revolved around perimeter (appendix 2). Differentiation within this lesson was a weak area,
although it was attempted. The dominant use of differentiation within this lesson was through
choice, as shown in the mathematics plan (appendix 2) children were given a choice of two
activities. They were able to choose which activity they felt they could do. This was inspired by
research stating, If students are given choice, they challenge themselves more than teachers do
(TES, 2012) this suggests that a higher level of challenge may be created for some children who
were perhaps usually given the average ability group work could now challenge themselves if they
felt confident. However, in practise many capable children were choosing to do the easier activity,
the challenge created failed to motivate them,

Leyster And Daumier Painted Everyday Life Events
Leyster and Daumier painted everyday life events, despite the different intentions. The time and
styles of the artwork are not similar at all, other than the intention to capture everyday life events.
Leyster s Self Portrait focused primarily on herself, how she viewed herself, and how she desired
others to view her. This type of paintingwas extremely rare, if not unheard of during a time when
female artists were seen as inferior. The Baroque style of painting exhibits bold colors and
dramatic lighting with loose brush strokes. Leyster painted herself looking straight, a slight
smile, and comfortable posture; showing a sense of confidence and engagement she desires to
capture as though she were looking at the viewer directly. Leyster also had a smooth finish to
her painting making it look more like a photograph, than a painting. Daumier s work however, is
related closely to the working class and the deep impact the time had on people, using warm
colors. Daumier s heavy paint application with harsh dark outlines related to his art as a
caricaturist. Daumier worked to express the struggles that time had brought among the lower or
working class by the truth relayed in his painting. The family in this photo is looking down, with
expressed fatigue demonstrated by the women s drooped shoulders and uncomfortableness in the
crowded Third Class Carriage. There is no direct engagement with the viewers but rather a sense of
compassion is expressed. Daumier s painting is left

Horse Application Essay
I feel as if my application would be incomplete if I did not discuss my absolute and overwhelming
passion for equestrian sports and the horses, our teammates, we compete on. Ever since I was
little I had a strong desire to touch or even get a glimpse of our equine friends. The moment I
finally was able to ride it clicked, this was the thing I have always wanted to do. Horses and the
sport of riding makes up who I am, my heart and soul goes into it. When I was young I obsessed
over horses as do most young girls but, that obsession never changed as I grew older. All the falls,
all the heartbreak and stress that it caused made me fall even more in love with it. I have now been

so much more than any other horse ever would. That is what influenced me to take on the
opportunity of buying and training a three year old unbroken arabian. He has come to teach me
not only things about riding but also life lessons. I have gained patience, trust and understanding
from him. He is now six years old and despite the fact that some days I felt as if we would never
get anywhere in our training he is now an excellent horse. Taking an animal that has never had a
person on it before and making it completely calm and even excited to work with a person on it s
back is an incredible thing and I am happy to have been able to experience this.
Being an equestrian is who I am and who I will always be. I have learned so much from the
horses and the people who make up this sport and I hope to learn more as the years go on. Every
single horse that I have ever met has fueled my passion and my love for this incredible sport. I
have no idea what I would do if it had never came into my life, it means everything to me. I hope
that riding in college can help me to continue on in my learning of this amazing

Information systems are the collection of hardware and software network, data and procedures that
people and organisations use for the information storage and retrieval procedure. It looks after
collection of data, creating data, processing data, distributing data and retrieving data. It helps
improve efficiency and effectiveness of an organisation.
The earlier information system had only three types.
Transaction Processing System This system is responsible for processing day to day business
transactions. The types of transactions vary from organisation to organisation. It helps with
maintaining, adding, changing and removing data. Some examples are placing order, billing,
cheque deposits, payroll systems, reservation systems, stock control etc. This system is used by
frontline staff.
Management Information System This system helps with carrying out the tasks required for
problem solving and decision making. These are management level systems and help with the

Muhammad Ali Is NOT a Hero Essay
Muhammad Ali Is NOT a Hero
To be a hero, someone could save others, respect their country, and care. The firefighters from the
Fire Department of New York have all of these characteristics, even thought they aren t perfect.
Everyday, they risk their lives to save others. They show their patriotism even on the trucks they
drive through the cities. Most of all they don t just do it because it s their job; they do it because
they care. Unlike the people at FDNY, Muhammad Ali is violent, separatist, and rude.
The first reason Muhammad Ali isn t a hero is because he is violent. For almost all of his life he
fought in boxing matches that all started when he was a boy because he wanted to beat up the kid
who stole his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second reason Muhammad Ali isn t a hero is he was a separatist who did not respect his
country. He became part of the Nation of Islam. They believed Blacks should break off from other
Americans. Also, in April 1967, Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army, claiming exempt status
as a Muslim minister (Abeles). When asked why he dodged the draft, Ali replied, I ain t got no
quarrel with them Viet Cong, no Viet Cong ever called me n (Biography.com). Because his
separatist beliefs and actions, Muhammad Ali did not show respect for his country.
The third reason Muhammad Ali isn t a hero is because he is rude. He would always taunt his
opponents. Before one of his matches, he taunted Liston calling him the bear and verbally defused
the famous stare as being just plain ugly (Myers 46). When Ali fought George Foreman in Zaire, he
had the Africans chant Ali bumbaye which means Ali kill him (When). Some sportswriters were
against Ali for this reason. Only a rude man like Muhammad Ali would do and say these things.
Because of his violence, rudeness, and separatist beliefs, Muhammad Ali in no way compares to
the men at the Fire Department of New York. While they have saved lives, Muhammad Ali has
just beaten people up. Spiderman is another example of a hero; he saved lives, respected his
country, and cared for the people he was saving. FDNY is just as good as Spiderman,

I. INTRODUCTION
Diabetes is a chronic condition involving glucose in the blood. It is caused by a problem in the
way the body makes or uses insulin. Insulin, a hormone that is necessary for glucose to move from
the blood to the inside of the cells. The body cannot use the insulin for energy if it cannot get into
the cells. Diabetes occurs when the body has too much blood glucose due to either the pancreas
does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced.
In type 2 diabetes (formerly called non insulin dependent diabetes or adult onset diabetes), the
pancreas continues to produce insulin, sometimes even at higher than normal levels. However, the
body develops resistance to the effects of insulin, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Intersex Documentary Me My Sex And I

Essay 2
Human Behavior in Perspective Intersex is the general concept used for a variety conditions in
which an individual is born with genitals, or a reproductive system, that does not fit the typical
sexual anatomy of a male or female. The measurement of this norm, is considered as Phall O
Metrics , which decides what is the right size of a male or female s genitalia at birth by a scale of 0
5 centimeters. Although there might be constraints to deciding whether the individual at birth is
a male or female, I believe that surgery to overcome intersexual conditions of a newborn, or even
a premature child, should be decided by the individual once they grow and develop to the
appropriate age, possibly at around of 18 25 years of age. In concern of moral rights, the own
individual should have the personal opinion or say over the doctors or parents. ... Show more

Once a child is born with divergent genitals, whether it is a clitoris or penis that doesn t fit the
Phall O Metrics , or genitals that do not look of a male or female with certainty, doctors will
often suggest performing surgery of the genitalia during the infancy of the person to make the
genitals fit the standards of a male or a female. These surgeries might be considered a possibility
by doctors and parents because normally they can be fearful of the appearance of irregular
genitals. Also, doctors and parents also believe that making the gonads appear more typical will
prevent the intersex individual from facing a gender

• Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The
Body...
How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems?
The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the
body. The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover.
The artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of
time while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device
needed?
The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial
heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g.
walking.
People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The
bridge group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. The
destination group are those patients who s body would not suit a donor heart transplant but would
benefit in additional years lived from an artificial heart.
How does it work? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two types of artificial hearts, the first being a pump that is connected to the patient s
circulatory system; it maintains life when the patient s heart is stopped for the surgeons to be able
to operate on the heart. The second type is a self contained mechanical heart that sits completely in
the patient s chest cavity. This second type of heart is known as a VAD pump which pumps blood
from the left ventricle to the aorta. Most mechanical hearts use a centrifugal pump, which is
quieter, uses less energy and lasts longer than the piston type mechanical hearts. The centrifugal
pump produces a constant flow of blood around the body; therefore the patient will not have a

Difference of Marketing Product and Service
The Marketing of product and service are different
A product is normally a thing that sold to people and mostly is tangible. Basically, the marketing
of product is particularly focused on 4P s in marketing mix namely product, price, place, and
promotion (Ehmke Fulton Lusk, n.d.). The marketer needs to analyze the major demand of
customers in a specific market in order to find out a product that can respond the market demand.
Firstly, it is necessary for marketers to focus on the strength as well as eliminate the vulnerabilities
of marketed products in order to improve products to meet customer s demand as much as possible.
Secondly, the price is an important factor in product marketing because of the price must be set to
match with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think product and services marketing are significantly different because of characteristic of itself.
The first characteristic of services marketing is intangibility; it cannot be seen, touched or felt prior
consumption. On the other hands, product marketing is tangible, the customer is able to touch,
feel, taste or smell the product either before or after purchasing. For example, when customers walk
through a restaurant, they might get the food smell from the restaurant but they cannot know how
well of service if they do not buy the menu.
Secondly, products can be stored in order to sell to the customer in the next time whereas services
marketing mostly are unable to be inventoried, they are perishable. Hence, the value of service
always exists at the point when it is required. Therefore, it seems to be very difficult to match
supply with demand in service marketing.
Thirdly, the other difference of product and services marketing is the level of relationship between
the client and provider. Undoubtedly, there is much more personal contact required in services
marketing than product marketing. In case of product marketing, customers and sellers may face
each other just once time when they are dealing products and they might have no chance to see
each other again. However, in services marketing, consumers and service providers may have to see
each other frequently throughout until the contract is ended or until the last thing that consumers

Interview With A Minister By Brian Bagwell
Interview with a Minister
I had the privilege of interviewing Brian Bagwell for this project. He is, in my opinion, one of
most humble, wisest man we have at Church of the Highlands. Once you get through a joke or
two, the fruits of the spirit radiate from his personality. A man that I have the privilege to call my
mentor and teacher. He is currently serving on staff at the Church of the Highlands as a Dream
Team Coordinator. His shares the vision of the church which is passed down from our senior
pastor, Chris Hodges. Evangelism is the definition of the church so to speak, Church of the
Highlands stands behind the final authority of God s word which is the bible. It is often said
among the staff we do not argue the essentials, but we can disagree the non essentials. The church
believes and acts in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, and helping people move through four
steps our God has outlined in the Great Commission. Our Church exists to see people saved,
delivered, redeemed, and fulfilled. This is accomplished with four systems that allow the people
to move through the four steps. The first is weekend services to allow them to know God
(saved), small groups to find freedom (delivered), growth track to discover purpose (redeemed),
and dream team to be fulfilled and make a difference (fulfilled). This vision is how the church
evangelizes (Bagwell). This vision is clear to all members of the church who call Church of the
Highlands home, and even clear to people

It is easy to embrace someone who is lovable, but it is much more difficult to accept a more
challenging child. I would start by demonstrating grace and patience with them, which would
include forgiving their mistakes and starting with a clean slate every day. In addition, I plan to
provide positive solutions which would benefit both the class and the student. I would never
give up on them. Next, I would lead by example by being receptive to each child s personal space
and needs. This would include looking for facial cues and evaluating their actions to determine
what a child would benefit from. Responsibility can be demonstrated by being accountable for

The Importance Of Cultural Literacy
Cultural literacy is not a well known word in today s society but being culturally literate is
essential to be an active participant in one s nation. Cultural literacy is the ability to understand a
culture enough to be able to participate in it actively. In modern society, a large portion of
Americans, especially in the younger generations, are not culturally literate and this poses a
problem for the future of our community and our economy.
Often fads are the defining points of recent cultural changes for example in the 70 s the hippie
movement was a defining portion of American culture and even global culture. If someone did not
understand that reference in that time, they would be unable to follow media, news, and possibly
even everyday interaction. By examining the economic trends of manias, one seeks to gain a
deeper understanding of how they affect our culture on a deeper level. As the very nature of fads
is to have an unexplained and short lived popularity predicting economic trends of crazes is very
nearly impossible to do accurately although there have been attempts to model fads (Plott and
Smith). This can have a devastating effect on the economy and at the very least severely hurt
individual investors. When the demand for certain fads becomes uncontrollable, they may cause an
economic bubble to form. A financial bubble is when the price of an object dramatically outweighs
its actual value (Singh) an example of this is the demand for twinkies during the Hostess

Robert Gray Poem- Old House and Late Ferry
Poetic Language is used to Capture Human Experiences;
`In Robert Gray’s poems, he uses language to capture human experiences.
In two of his poems; old house and late ferry, gray has effectively captured human experiences by
his varies poetic languages and through insight and feeling. Throughout both texts late ferry and old
house, gray’s main message in the poems, with his critical analysis, is the
destruction of nature by mankind.
In old house, gray has captured the human experience of the process of death. He does this through
insight and he effectively conveys this with poetic language such as the use of metaphor. This is the
title itself ‘ old house’.The title
doesn’t literally mean an old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses this imagery in this poem to emphasis this dark place in which he now lives. Deep sea
can be a cold and scary place. This would capture a human experience because deep in the sea
would be a dark and lonely which is something a human can feel and relate to.
Gray expresses, in late ferry, a human experience captured by the language technique of
symbolism, this is of colour. In this text, gray uses the colour of yellow to express light, and sun,
and to emphasis the preciousness of the colour yellow, which also symbolises gold. In this text,
gray conveys yellow as the happy colour of the light, which is more natural and sweet to him,
especially compared the fake lights and colours of the city.
Poetry is definitely language used to capture a part of human experiences. This is evident in both
late ferry and old house, which were written by the poet Robert gray. He informs his audience of
the destruction of nature, and this is happens by mere humans. This is evident by the artificialness
of the city in late ferry, and of an old house actually being an institute in old house. He does this
successfully through various uses of poetic language

How did it get to this? How did a soft hearted and honest noble like Macbeth get into this position?
The quick and easy answer is that it was the work of the three witches.
At the beginning of the play, the three witches gave Macbeth and Banquo prophecies; Macbeth will
be king, thane of Cawdor, and be thane of Glamis. They also said that Banquo s sons will be kings.

from women would kill Macbeth. Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn the power of man,
for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth (4.1.81 83). Another one told Macbeth that he wouldn

take no care Who chafes, who frets, or where conspirers are. Macbeth shall never vanquish be until
Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill Shall come against him.
All these predictions made Macbeth very confident in himself. No man born from a woman
would kill him and for the woods of Great Birnam To come to Dunsinane Hill was almost
impossible, Or so he thought. He was motivated to be violent and bold in his actions. He killed
Macduff s wife and children and stayed to fight Macduff when Edward s army marched to
Dunsinane Hill with branches of Great Birnam. Since no man born of a woman could ever harm
him, Macbeth thought that he would be able to defeat Macduff. For example, when he killed
Young Siward Macbeth didn t even feel accomplished because he believed that he would never
lose a battle to a man and that he wouldn t be defeated until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane

Stereotypes In Twelfth Night
William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is a comedy about Viola, a woman who washes up in
Illyria and then assumes the role of a man in order to be closer to Orsino, the man she wants to
marry. It involves multiple cases of mistaken identities and deception. The stereotypical role of the
sexes and gender also have a significant impact in the play. Ultimately it provides the opportunity
to disrupt the fixed polarities upon which the normative Elizabethan society is based. This essay
will discuss Belsey s statement that the closing of the play voids the transgressive gaps in sexual
stereotypes. This will be done by considering the historical context and the sexual norms of the time
and to what extent they are transgressed in Twelfth Night.
Historically the play is set during a time when homosexuality was governed under the ... Show more

Charles is of opinion that, the representation of homoerotic attraction in Twelfth Night functions
rather as a means of dramatizing the socially constructed basis of a sexuality that is determined by
gender identity (Charles 1997:122). As mentioned above, homosexuality was not acceptable in
the Elizabethan society for the most part. It was even considered as sodomy. Before the twins,
Viola and Sebastian, are married to heterosexual partners, both are involved in some form of
homosexual relationship. While Oliva seems to be unaware of Cesario/Viola s true sex, the hint
at the possibility of homoeroticism through dramatic irony is already enough to disrupt the
stereotypical gender system. After Malvolio presents Viola/Cesario with Olivia s ring, Cesarios
says, I am the man; if it be so, as tis,/Poor lady, she were better love a dream (Shakespeare
2004:84). Charles explains the best stating that dramatic irony tells us Oliva s true hidden passion
is for the female character (Charles 1997:133). In addition she

Why Do Tribunals Deserve Justice
Individuals who commit war crimes and genocide undoubtedly deserve severe punishment, and
their victims deserve justice. Though this sentiment would likely be agreed upon by a majority of
people, the logistics of how exactly to carry out this punishment and procure justice are widely
debated. Recently, international courts and tribunals have been set up to try individuals for war
crimes and bring justice to the victims of these war crimes. However, these international courts and
tribunals are often ineffective. Throughout this paper, I will explain why I agree with Adam Smith
that domestic or hybrid courts are preferable over an international court system. There are several
reasons why international law is not the most effective way to achieve... Show more content on

Since justice is a concept that differs amongst every culture and group, it is difficult to empirically
measure the effectiveness of an international court in regard to providing justice. However,
supporters of international courts measure their success in ways other than justice brought. For
example, if a group sees that other criminals are being tried, sentenced, and punished appropriately
by an international court, one might assume that this group would be less inclined to carry out
similar crimes. According to Hyeran Jo and Beth Simmons in their 2016 study on international
criminal courts, a large study affiliated with the World Bank based on developing countries found
that higher conviction rates tended to reduce crime, even controlling for the death penalty (Jo and
Simmons, 447). Theoretically, an international court such as the International Criminal Courtcould
deter groups and individuals from committing war crimes based on this criminological data, if these
individuals and groups saw that the court prosecuted effectively and thoroughly. However, there are
many instances that show an international trial is not effective nor thorough. As mentioned earlier,
the Khmer Rouge tribunal lasted for a decade and only three individuals received a

Censorship Laws and Practices in China
Introduction China joined the global Internet age in 1994, and has been commercially available
since 1995. Since then, Chinese Internet usage has seen explosive growth, doubling every six
months, and the number of online users is only second to the US. The Internet age ushered in the
information age with a new world of freedom and expression for the Chinese. However, soon after
its inception, the Chinese government has reined in the free wheeling Internet users and has imposed
new laws and restrictions to access and content on the Internet.

The Unintended Discovery
William Laurance (https://research.jcu.edu.au/portfolio/bill.laurance), a researcher at James Cook

became Alibaba Group Holding Limited through New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). There were
unique reasons why Alibaba listed on the NYSE instead of on Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and
Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx) since it is a China domiciled company. SSE found to be too
restrictive, that it imposed limits on trading, size, timing, and speed of foreign capital flows.
Alibaba had also attempted to be listed on the HKEx. Since Alibaba embraces dual class share
structure, this was the main reason HKEx rejected Alibaba s proposal to be listed as HKEx does
not authorize dual class share structure, it allows one share one vote principle instead. Jack Ma, the

Black Women And Native American Women
Black women and Native American women have been oppressed for many years throughout
history. They were enslaved and were essentially objectified by white men. Today in the media
black women are seen as interesting individuals who are hypersexualized or promiscuous. On the
other hand, there is hardly any representation of Native American women in our daily life but when
they do appear they are usually sexualized. Our culture essentially label and define these women
based on their representation in the media. Due to these inaccurate descriptions that exist, black
women and Native American women are essentially victimized by the stereotypes, we as a society,
created.
The media is popular for over generalizing people of particular race or background. Usually, it tends
to inaccurately present people of specific race or social background. For instance, an average
black women representation in the media today is that they are angry, loud or bold. They are
promiscuous, an alien creature with curvy features and with big personality. Thus, they are
portrayed as just an exotic sexual figure for non colored men to try. In other words, interest in a
black woman only go as far as a romantic or sexual experiment for white men. While there are
growing interracial serious relationship between black women and men of different races,
prejudiced black women face from stereotypes is more extensive.

Ending Welfare as We Know It by Meredith Vieira
Before Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) became what it is known as today, it
was called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). AFDC was a grant program created
to allow states to fund cash welfare payments for needy children who struggle with parental support
because of a father or mother s absence, unemployment, incapacity, or death. It was established by
the Social Security Act of 1935. When President Clinton signed the Personal Responsibility and
Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) in 1996, it replaced AFDC and its
administration, the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS) program, and the

created to reduce the birth of children since the old system allowed access for women to receive
a raise in welfare benefits for every child they had. AFDC seems to work for Elba compared to
TANF. In my opinion, I feel that the policies are actually helpful because it is designed for
women to focus on other ways for support, instead of the sole reliance of welfare. I believe the
policies promote self sufficiency and responsibility by requiring minors to continue their
education. It also encourages women to work towards a more financially stable future. In Elba s
case, however, I find this very difficult for her to attain, considering the fact that she is a minor
and may not have all the education on what resources or services are available. She may not

Modern Media And Its Impact On Society
Most countries around the world have cities and people that exist within media saturated spheres.
Consumerism and commodification promote items to most economic classes, and through
marketing they are urged to purchase and consume the products advertised. Japan is no exception
to this, but there is a slight difference that appears to set Japan apart ever so slightly. In Japan,
there is a group of consumers, sometimes regarded as a subculture, known as the otaku. For now,
just bear in mind that the otaku are a group of consumers, often male, who purchase items
associated with popular cartoons, videogames, and comics. They purchase these items and care for
them with a reverence comparable to Western fandoms. The otaku, however, are more than fans.
They engage in normal fandom behaviors, such as consuming popular media, creating works
associated with the media they are a fan of, and supporting the creator or studio that produces the
media they are fans of. In addition to these behaviors, the otaku also live in a society that is heavily
influenced by rigid societal structures and tradition. With these elements in mind, the otaku can be
examined in a myriad of ways. Historicism, sociology, anthropology, fandom studies, and feminism
are just a few of the ways in which to examine this group. Many may wonder why studying this
group may be beneficial, and the reason is that this dissertation has found just one of many reasons
to examine the otaku. The reason is that their

Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the legacies of few
people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and changed as many individual s lives,
as Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one
central question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame
death and sin, offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To
others, He was merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of the

In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today. Those who
lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much
with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre
conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not
seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories.
But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical
validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this
time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing
various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw,
which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery,
they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical
Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis
upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm...
[and] exclude material in the Gospels that did not fit with this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes

GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that GMAW is an

The Mountaintop Analysis
1.The physical world of the play The Mountaintop is confined to one small hotel room, so it is
interior and built. The action takes place in a hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee, which tells us
that this space was built. There also is natural weather outside because it is raining heavily
outside. We know this because whenever Camae, the maid, comes through the door, heavy rain
is falling and sounds of thunder and lightning are presented. The whole play takes real time and
does not have any changes of scenery or blackouts until the end. Time moves slow in this script
because a lot of conversation is happening, not much action. The play is both easy going on time
and not easy going on time. The fact that Camae says she needs to leave, tries to leave once, Mr.
King is waiting on his friend to bring his cigarettes, and how quickly some of the conversations
happen shows that the play can be short on time. It is leisurely easy going on time though
because once they begin to talk, they are in no rush and have detailed conversations, almost as if
they do not want the conversations to end. The mood changes throughout this play. At first, a
subtle/relaxed mood can be portrayed, but towards the middle and end of the play a more
intense vibe can be given because of how sudden things start to happen, like when Mr. King
thinks Camae was sent to spy on him. Mr. King says on page 55, I said GET OUT! Coming in here

Censorship Is Monitoring Or Withholding Information Essay
Censorship is monitoring or withholding information. The information can come from a book,
drama, media, or any other form of entertainment; but it is usually considered a threat to the
consumer. Yet the consumer is not always the audience. Sometimes the threat is to a politician or
government official. The debate over topics in the realm of what is acceptable and what should be
banned only continues to rise as more taboo topics become acceptable. Some argue that keeping
certain things behind closed doors is imperative for a harmonious living place. Others say that a
small discourse is critical to remain sane. Censorshipis a way of protecting society from itself.
Leaders and parental figures can make the choice to monitor what is read, watched, and consumed,
but until the world lives the life worthy of a children s book the effort is futile. While the narrative
being taught may be inappropriate or harsher it doesn t decrease the value of it.
Arguments are shown throughout everyday life over every topic. The question isn t, When will
society stop fighting the norm? The question is, When will society stop fighting change? The
world evolves with every second. With that evolution society blurs the line with what is
acceptable and not. Sixty years ago the idea of two boys kissing was the equivalent of burning a
baby in church on a Sunday morning. Today, two men kissing is celebrated with its own parade.
Social norms and ideals have been ripping down the cloak of

Analysis Of The Movie Platoon
The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post war era.
Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant
during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like
the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other.
The drug abuse during the post war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to
relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt
them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These
drugs are known to play with your brain which could ve caused indecisiveness or bad decisions.
The actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers
would gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn t
know if they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These
drugs could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people.
For some soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it
created a very toxic environment.
The post war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese
people to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about
these innocent people. Since this was the post war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the
innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn t want to take any chances of dying and
murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad
invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady
and then had threatened to kill the man s daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant
Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant
Barnes in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. Another scene would be after the
squad was done setting fire to the village, some of the soldiers took little girls to a little spot and

Live Your Own Life In Two Kinds By Amy Tan
Live Your Own Life
Two kinds by Amy Tan is a short story that you could pull many themes from. The main and most
obvious theme I pulled from the story is that everyone is responsible to choose their future.
My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America (Tan 49). This quote
shows you the confidence her mother had when it came to doing something you believed in while
you were in the United States. This idea is important because her mom thought she could make her
daughter into anything because they lived in the United States and many other people have been
successful in the United States too. Two or three months went by without any mention of my being
a prodigy. And then one day my mother was watching the Ed Sullivan

Tylenol Pill Case
How many of you have taken a tylenol pill. What if you died days after taking them, what about
hours, minutes, seconds. This is what happened in Chicago 1982 after someone got tylenol pills
and poisoned them with 100 to 10000 times the fatal dose. Seven people were killed and more
poisoned bottles were found after this. One family and other individuals were found dead because
of this. In total it ended up being seven dead. No one was ever convicted for the murders, but three
people were suspects in the investigation.
The first suspect was James W. Lewis. He was a con artist and his handwriting was found to
match the two letters to the white house as treats. The first letter sent was threatening the white
house to continue the poisonings and the second was also threatening the white house that he
was going to bomb it. The only problem about this suspect was that he was in New York for
about 27 days before the murders. This is a problem because the cyanide which was the poison
used would have eaten throughout the capsules. The poison would have been needed to be planted
up to a day before the murders. Some people think he got a ticket from New York to Chicago then
got a taxi planted the fake pills in the bottles then got another ticket and got out of there. ... Show

that he was a suspect. He was let off the hook, but then he shot and killed who he thought was the
bartender. He did this because he thought he was the person who turned him in. It ended up being a
random pedestrian who wasn t at the bar that night. He was convicted as the tylenol killer, but he

Airlines Don t Thank You for Flying
Yes, hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. Thank you for flying with
Overpriced Airlines even though you don t really have a choice because this was still the
cheapest flight you could find two weeks before your boss sprung this surprise no expenses paid
business trip on you. It will take about two and a half hours to fly three hundred miles to get you
to your destination, not taking into account the 45 minute delay due to some less than
cooperative passengers, and some very smart regulations. I know that having you board was a
pain especially since we have you do it by group number, which you have no control over,
instead by row number, which just creates a giant clump of people that takes an extra 20 minutes
to sort out. Also, we are very (not) sorry about the fact that a controlling boyfriend stole your seat
without asking you or us to try and accommodate him, just so he can sit next to his girlfriend that
is clearly not enjoying life as of right now so either way your flight is going to suck because he
is supposed to sit next to a mother with a newborn baby who is not having any of this. Also, we
are kind of sorry, but not really, about the fact that people who clearly needed to check a bag in
didn t and is trying to fit their 30 pound bag into the overhead bin and refuse to check their bag in
when the flight attendant tells them to, insisting, I got this. They will finally check it in after many
failed attempts and then the rest of the

Emily Dickinson Diction
Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye. Emily Dickinson s great poem, Much
Madness is Divinest, expresses the true rebellious persona that Dickinson was from within and the
sense of frustration she had at being a very intelligent woman living during a time where men
were the much dominant. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was
said to be very reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. When it came to
putting down her feelings on paper, Dickinson did not hold back. In her work Dickinson utilizes the
concept of slant rhyme, a wide ranged use of diction, and tone setting to give us her thoughts in
concern to the society that she much resented. Dickinson employs slant rhyme to emphasize the
true madness in society. Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye; much sense the
starkest madness. The use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assent, and you are sane; Demur ―, you re straightway dangerous, and handled with a chain.
Using words as Assent and Demur draw a comparison in between society and those who are seen
as mad . For Dickinson, the individuals who demur are set aside as mad and society takes charge
in restraining them. For all the others who assent and follow into what society expects from
them they receive society s acceptance and the label of being sane. What people didn t realize
was that the madness that they so much feared, if fully embraced, could be a magnificent quality.
It could allow a person to see things that many others denied the existence of. Dickinson with her
diverse and creative use of words suggests that society was comprised of commonness which was
the actual true madness. The act of living one s life in conformity of the expectations of others,
and never trying to achieve one s own desires, is the deepest form of

The Influence Of The Paleolithic Period And The Neolithic...
1.Three major cultural changes or contributions to the humanities that occurred between the
Paleolithic period and the and the Neolithic period are the different techniques developed to hunt,
the importance of the human figures, and the architecture. Different techniques to hunt were shown
by looking at wall paintings, in the Paleolithicera paintings were found in deep caves and showed a
realism of the animals they depended on for food, where as the Neolithicera paintings were located
on smooth limestone, beneath cliff hangs, and in rock shelters these paintings showed the animals
that they depended on for food also but these paintings showed the animals being hunted by human
figures with bows and arrows. This shows that somewhere between the two eras humans
developed a more efficient way to hunt and human figures became more important. Human figures
were rarely known before the Neolithic era, wall paintings did not show them and sculptures of
them were very rare except few female figures found from the Paleolithic age. In the Neolithic age,
paintings not only showed the importance of human figures hunting but it showed them dancing,
and fighting as a community. Architecture is not known from before the Neolithic period, very
little survives because it was made out of material that disappeared long ago. The most famous
piece of architecture from that era is the Stonehenge, not only was the Stonehenge believed to
serve as a religious purpose, it also was known as a clock

Research Paper On The Globe Theatre
The Globe Theatre was one of the most famous theaters of all time. It was famous for being the
main location of many Shakespearian plays, for having a unique architectural layout from other
buildings, and for being a main attraction for many people during the Elizabethan Era and the
Modern Era.
The Globe theatre was built in 1599 and is very famous for having a unique architectural layout
that was different from other buildings during the time period. It was built from oak, deal, and
stolen playhouse frames. It is a large circular structure that is three stories tall and has a straw
covered roof. It looks similar to what a football stadium looks like today because the middle of the
theatre is open. The Globe theatre was built to hold about 3,000 people. Construction of the theatre
was started by Cuthbert Burbage because the lease on an older theatre had expired. The location of
the Globe Theatre was not actually in the central part of London but rather in an outlying district
called Southwark on the Thames River.
пїјThe Globe Theatre was the main spot where Shakespearian plays were performed during the
Elizabethan Era. The first play that is known to be shown in the Globe Theatre was Julius Caesar
in 1599. Many other plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Pericles, Prince of Tyre. The Globe
Theatre was divided up into sections in a way that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Facebook Has Changed The Way People Communicate With Each...
Facebook, a social networking website, has changed the way people communicate with each
other. A social networking website is an online platform that allows users to create a public profile
and interact with other users on the website. Facebook has even changed our most personal and
private conversations and how they are conducted around the world. Since the internet s birth in
1983, this trend of online communication has been growing. Created in 2004, now registered with
more than one billion participants, Facebook s user numbers surpass even the top four social
networking websites combined. According to Wikipedia statistics, Instagram has 300 million
registered users, LinkedIn has 200 million users, Classmates.com has 50 million users, and Flickr
has 32 million registered users. To be further convinced of the claim that Facebook indeed changes
the way we communicate, you would only need to create your own Facebook account and start
participating in their social networking experience. Technology and internet usage is fused into
every aspect of our society including the style of communication. The launch of Facebook in 2006
also enabled other devices such as touch phones, interactive tablets, and even advanced cars with
their own networking capabilities starting in 2007. Facebook is a multibillion dollar company and
is highly recognized for connecting more people than other networks. Facebook s long term success
can be attributed to providing entertainment, world news, and

Mark Apartheid
I couldn t understand why he and his people had to have all the luxuries money can buy, while I
and my people lived in abject poverty. Was it because they were whites and we were black? Were
they better than we? (Mathabane 191), Mark made this remark after seeing a white person s house.
When Mark was an adolescent apartheid was in full swing. Segregation completely separated races
in South Africa. Of course the blacks and coloureds of South Africalived in poverty stricken ghettos
and did not have much. Mark s house was repulsive and the whole community lived in poverty and
feared the Peri Urban(police). Meanwhile, In the Smith s white home there were surplus food and

Despite al DawДЃnД«qД« s threat, al б№ўДЃdiq designated his son, IsmaКїil, as his successor and

issue of IsmДЃКїД«l s imamate and occultation. Historical accounts vary on IsmaКїil s death and
life during al б№ўДЃdiq s lifetime. While it is beyond the scope and focus of this paper to enter
into a debate on this matter, it suffices to state that the КїAbbДЃsid threat and persecution caused
the emergence of many splinter groups among al б№ўДЃdiq s followers. Remaining with the

According to Ibn NadД«m s and Niбє“ДЃm al Mulk s accounts, al HallДЃj was the first dДЃКїД«
of JibДЃl in present day Iran (Ibn Nadim, 2002:352; Niбє“ДЃm al Mulk, 1999:283 4). He might
have been the first person who could have assumed an official title of dДЃКїД«, but, as the
presented analyses have demonstrated, he certainly was not the first person who was involved in
the Ismaili daКїwa in Persia. GhiyДЃth fled to Khurasan around the end of the third/ninth and the
beginning of the fourth/tenth centuries, when a certain Sunni cleric, КїAbd AllДЃh al
ZaКїfarДЃnД«, incited public opinion against him (Niбє“ДЃm al Mulk, 1999:284). Al
ZaКїfarДЃnД« was the founder of the al ZaКїfarДЃniyya faction, one of the three schools of
NajjДЃriyya (al Barghawthiyya, Mustadrika, and al ZaКїfarДЃniyya), and a follower of бё¤usaД«n
ibn Muḥammad al Najjār. He attacked Ghiyāth in order to create a bigger space and fame for
himself. Consequently, GhiyДЃth migrated to Khurasan and settled in Marw al RЕ«d, in present
day BДЃlДЃ MurghДЃb in north western BДЃdghД«s province of Afghanistan, which is still
populated with many Hazara groups. GhiyДЃth s major achievement was the conversion of AmД«r
al бё¤usaД«n ibn КїAlД« al MarwarЕ«dД« or al MarwazД« (hereafter, al MarwazД«). He
governed SД«stДЃn, HirДЃt, GhЕ«r, GharjistДЃn, BДЃdghД«s, and Marw (Stern, 1960:60 61;

What Is The Double Spiral Of Conflict
There are a lot of knowledgeable people who come together in a company to work towards a
common motive. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of
knowledge, interest and intelligence about the job. These factors lead the workers to be in
different camps while working and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The
double spiral of conflict contains two ends where the upper end explains some of the values that
will bring back the parties together while the other end strains the whole group to a downfall.
When the two camps are separated, they will try to create a conflict, and as both do not want to
retreat, they see themselves as supposed to fight back (Albrecht 58). Thinking of the double spiral

Physiological Adaptations of the Plesiosaur for В‘Holding its Breath
By Nathan Eaton
One hundred and fifty million years ago, large aquatic species of reptile such as the Plesiosaur
dominated the ocean, and were pre eminent predators of the sea. The branch of now extinct
Plesiosaurs, or В‘near lizards , evolved into variant closely related species specialised to take
different niches in the food chain. Such species of Plesiosaur include the phenotypically similar
Plesiosauroid and Pliosauroid. The physiological adaptations of the long necked variant, the
Plesiosauroid, as it relates to deep sea diving, will be addressed in depth.

The best adapted seals can dive to depths of 1600 metres. An analogue of the Plesiosaur, in terms
of dive depth, diet, and body shape, is the modern Sea Lion. The sea lion has been known to dive
up to two hundred metres. Additionally, Plesiosaurs В‘used their hyperphalangic paddles for
subaqueous flight in the manner of modern sea lions (Chatterjee Small, 1989).
Sea lions and whales, Plesiosaur analogues, can endure environments which would kill a human.
Humans are at risk of illness or death when returning from a great depth to the ocean s surface.
Under pressure, nitrogen liquefies, or dissolves into the bloodstream, and an abrupt reduction in
pressure can cause it to want to escape the body in the same way gases in a pressurised can wish
to. Whales overcome this problem, because their rib cage and lungs collapse and compress under
higher pressure: forcing the air into non absorptive areas of the lung, and blood flow is reduced to
the lung, reducing the intake of air and importantly, nitrogen:
(The whale s adaptations allow) В…the heartbeat to slow, peripheral arteries to constrict, and
shunting of oxygenated blood to vital organs. During a whale s dive, the metabolic rate drops,
causing a reduction in heart rate, or bradycardia. A bradycardia

What Is The Main Idea Of Sucker By Carson Mcculler
I believe Sucker is a living, breathing person. In the story, Carson McCullers supplied hints that
indicate Sucker is real. If he was imaginary, McCullers would have incstead hinted that he is
imaginary. In short stories, every detail the author includes is there for a reason . McCullers
wrote about Sucker : there was a long cut on his cheek , he was always hanging around , and To
me and my kid sisters he was like our brother. These phrases are all ones you would use to
describe a living, breathing person. Had McCullers constructed Sucker to be imaginary, she would
have given the reader clues in the story indicating that, such as To me and my kid sisters, who

The main idea of Sucker is, as Pete said, If a person admires you a lot you despise him and don t
care and it is the person who doesn t notice you that you are apt to admire. Pete could have only
learned this if he experienced such a situation that was out of his control. In other words, the
people in this situation with Pete (i.e. Sucker and Maybelle) could not have been imaginary
because Pete would be in control of the situation and, as many people with imaginary friends do,
turn the situation into their favor. The broken relationship between Pete and Sucker was definetly
not in Pete s favor and neither was Pete able to repair it. In addition, if Sucker was imaginary,
McCullers would have included this fact in the main idea of the story, which might then be, briefly
: fantasizing about the impossibly perfect relationship you want will make you lose the wonderful
relationship you already have, but don t realize you have. However, as a short story McCullers only
had enough space in the story to elaborate on the main idea Pete learned, which is quoted earlier
in this paragraph. Thus, Sucker is living. In conclusion, I believe Sucker to be a real, living and
breathing person. McCullers only hinted in the story that Sucker is real, not imaginary. Also, Pete
described experiencing very intense sensory related and emotional feelings regarding Sucker,
which could only be possible if Sucker is real. Lastly, the main idea of Carson McCullers short story
supports Sucker as a living person, not an imaginary being. Sucker is

The Importance Of Genuine Learning As A Student
the first and the best lesson I got when I was a student in college is that whether we are in class
or not, each day is a lesson independent from anyone else. As I go ahead toward my objective, I
have developed and adapted such a great amount during the time to this point. Since I wind up
noticeably youthful grown up, respectability was not something I got just as support from my folks
yet in addition anticipated. I went to the full comprehension behind the significance after I turn into
an understudy. There were times when I confront the danger of losing and giving up my
uprightness. In any case, these sorts of circumstance are the one that causes you to hang on the
esteem and comprehend the genuine significance behind word. It intends to be consistent with one
s self good, esteem and convictions. This prompts ask an answer in regards to life and its
advantages, which comes as a bundle including training and genuine involvement with Belmont.
Lessons don t begin and end in the class, yet rather extend past or more. There is no limit or point
of confinement to people longing to learn, ask and obtain more information.
Genuine learning originates from individuals. Taking in that knowledge requires great coordinated
effort and administration. I trust that, the capacity to interconnect and team up with in a gathering
setting of different individual qualities and learning condition will come about a win. While
teaming up with individuals or building up a team, one must consider

  • 4. Plastic Bags Case Study 1. How strong is the evidence to support Dr. Splinter s arguments in favor of the plastic bag ban, and what are the limitations of this evidence? Specific claims are that litter will be noticeably reduced, the drainage system will be less prone to clogging, utilization of the landfill will be reduced, and there will be fewer environmental hazards for endangered wildlife. What specific information in the documents do you find compelling and why? Be sure to cite the information in the documents as well as any other factors you considered that led you to this conclusion. Dr. Splinter makes a strong argument that plastic bags should be banned. According to the 2011 report by the City of San Jose, their ban of plastic bags ended up in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a reduction of over 1600 plastic bags ending up in the local waterways, with plastic bags being 3.2% of all litter found in the waterways, and they were previously 8.2% in 2011. (SanJoseCA.gov, 2012). The ban on plastic bags seemed to greatly affect the city in a positive way and did not appear to have a negative effect at all, despite protests by some locals and business owners. Of course, there are adjustments with any change in policy or law, but the plastic bag ban can be one that can help the nature preserve, as well as the local area. Essentially costs may go up initially, but in the long run, the city will save money in a variety of ways while helping to keep wildlife safe, and waterways cleaner. Dr. Splinter s observation that a ban is necessary is a solid argument and is one that the city should adopt. 2. How strong is the evidence for Mr. Shredder s arguments against the plastic bag ban, and what are the limitations of this evidence? Specific arguments are that local businesses will lose sales, empirical evidence does not indicate that the projected benefits of plastic bag bans will materialize, the cost of purchasing reusable bags adversely impacts the poor, and the same projected benefits of the plastic bag ban can be achieved by stronger recycling efforts. There are many people are unfamiliar with sleep paralysis and when a person experiences it for the first time they mainly look to the supernatural. There are many scientists who are looking into the science of this sleeping disorder and still have yet to discover the main cause of sleep paralysis. So far, the main explanation for sleep paralysis is that your brain and body aren t on the same cycle, thus causing the hallucinations. This paper will explain how the science of sleep paralysis is more plausible than the supernatural stories people tend to believe. • 6. Evaluation Of A Lesson And A Mathematics Non Appraised Lesson This essay closely reflects upon and evaluates two lessons taught within SE1. The school in which these lessons were taught is a primary academy, which size is larger than average. The majority of pupils are white British pupils but ethnic minorities are consistently increasing; the amount of EAL children is significantly high. Ofsted graded the behaviour within school to be outstanding. The class concerned is a year three class, in their summer term. My SE1 targets include: To develop assessment techniques, to develop curriculum knowledge and to develop the ability to meet the needs of all pupils through differentiation (appendix 1). However, differentiation is very important in helping children to become motivated and reach their potential (Pollard, 2000) as children feel both sufficiently challenged yet are still able to complete the work set. Although this view is currently being questioned within current reports as a new set of pedagogy comes into place in some schools within mathematics entitled mastery, suggesting that differentiation is becoming obsolete in mathematics for those who follow this program, as it suggests the whole class to learn the same content at the same rate (NCETM, 2015). The first lesson highlighted is a mathematics lesson taught within a streamed class, the lesson revolved around perimeter (appendix 2). Differentiation within this lesson was a weak area, although it was attempted. The dominant use of differentiation within this lesson was through choice, as shown in the mathematics plan (appendix 2) children were given a choice of two activities. They were able to choose which activity they felt they could do. This was inspired by research stating, If students are given choice, they challenge themselves more than teachers do (TES, 2012) this suggests that a higher level of challenge may be created for some children who were perhaps usually given the average ability group work could now challenge themselves if they felt confident. However, in practise many capable children were choosing to do the easier activity, the challenge created failed to motivate them, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Leyster And Daumier Painted Everyday Life Events Leyster and Daumier painted everyday life events, despite the different intentions. The time and styles of the artwork are not similar at all, other than the intention to capture everyday life events. Leyster s Self Portrait focused primarily on herself, how she viewed herself, and how she desired others to view her. This type of paintingwas extremely rare, if not unheard of during a time when female artists were seen as inferior. The Baroque style of painting exhibits bold colors and dramatic lighting with loose brush strokes. Leyster painted herself looking straight, a slight smile, and comfortable posture; showing a sense of confidence and engagement she desires to capture as though she were looking at the viewer directly. Leyster also had a smooth finish to her painting making it look more like a photograph, than a painting. Daumier s work however, is related closely to the working class and the deep impact the time had on people, using warm colors. Daumier s heavy paint application with harsh dark outlines related to his art as a caricaturist. Daumier worked to express the struggles that time had brought among the lower or working class by the truth relayed in his painting. The family in this photo is looking down, with expressed fatigue demonstrated by the women s drooped shoulders and uncomfortableness in the crowded Third Class Carriage. There is no direct engagement with the viewers but rather a sense of compassion is expressed. Daumier s painting is left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since I was little I had a strong desire to touch or even get a glimpse of our equine friends. The moment I finally was able to ride it clicked, this was the thing I have always wanted to do. Horses and the sport of riding makes up who I am, my heart and soul goes into it. When I was young I obsessed over horses as do most young girls but, that obsession never changed as I grew older. I have gained patience, trust and understanding from him. He is now six years old and despite the fact that some days I felt as if we would never get anywhere in our training he is now an excellent horse. Taking an animal that has never had a person on it before and making it completely calm and even excited to work with a person on it s back is an incredible thing and I am happy to have been able to experience this. • 10. Muhammad Ali Is NOT a Hero Essay Muhammad Ali Is NOT a Hero To be a hero, someone could save others, respect their country, and care. The firefighters from the Fire Department of New York have all of these characteristics, even thought they aren t perfect. Everyday, they risk their lives to save others. They show their patriotism even on the trucks they drive through the cities. Most of all they don t just do it because it s their job; they do it because they care. Unlike the people at FDNY, Muhammad Ali is violent, separatist, and rude. The first reason Muhammad Ali isn t a hero is because he is violent. When asked why he dodged the draft, Ali replied, I ain t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong, no Viet Cong ever called me n (Biography.com). Because his separatist beliefs and actions, Muhammad Ali did not show respect for his country. The third reason Muhammad Ali isn t a hero is because he is rude. He would always taunt his opponents. Before one of his matches, he taunted Liston calling him the bear and verbally defused the famous stare as being just plain ugly (Myers 46). When Ali fought George Foreman in Zaire, he had the Africans chant Ali bumbaye which means Ali kill him (When). Some sportswriters were against Ali for this reason. Only a rude man like Muhammad Ali would do and say these things. Because of his violence, rudeness, and separatist beliefs, Muhammad Ali in no way compares to the men at the Fire Department of New York. Insulin, a hormone that is necessary for glucose to move from the blood to the inside of the cells. The body cannot use the insulin for energy if it cannot get into the cells. Diabetes occurs when the body has too much blood glucose due to either the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced. The measurement of this norm, is considered as Phall O Metrics , which decides what is the right size of a male or female s genitalia at birth by a scale of 0 5 centimeters. Although there might be constraints to deciding whether the individual at birth is a male or female, I believe that surgery to overcome intersexual conditions of a newborn, or even a premature child, should be decided by the individual once they grow and develop to the appropriate age, possibly at around of 18 25 years of age. • 13. • Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The Body... How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems? The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body. The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device needed? The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g. walking. People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The bridge group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. The destination group are those patients who s body would not suit a donor heart transplant but would benefit in additional years lived from an artificial heart. How does it work? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two types of artificial hearts, the first being a pump that is connected to the patient s circulatory system; it maintains life when the patient s heart is stopped for the surgeons to be able to operate on the heart. The second type is a self contained mechanical heart that sits completely in the patient s chest cavity. Basically, the marketing of product is particularly focused on 4P s in marketing mix namely product, price, place, and promotion (Ehmke Fulton Lusk, n.d.). The marketer needs to analyze the major demand of customers in a specific market in order to find out a product that can respond the market demand. Firstly, it is necessary for marketers to focus on the strength as well as eliminate the vulnerabilities of marketed products in order to improve products to meet customer s demand as much as possible. Secondly, the price is an important factor in product marketing because of the price must be set to match with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think product and services marketing are significantly different because of characteristic of itself. The first characteristic of services marketing is intangibility; it cannot be seen, touched or felt prior consumption. On the other hands, product marketing is tangible, the customer is able to touch, feel, taste or smell the product either before or after purchasing. For example, when customers walk through a restaurant, they might get the food smell from the restaurant but they cannot know how well of service if they do not buy the menu. Secondly, products can be stored in order to sell to the customer in the next time whereas services marketing mostly are unable to be inventoried, they are perishable. Hence, the value of service always exists at the point when it is required. Therefore, it seems to be very difficult to match supply with demand in service marketing. Thirdly, the other difference of product and services marketing is the level of relationship between the client and provider. Undoubtedly, there is much more personal contact required in services marketing than product marketing. In case of product marketing, customers and sellers may face each other just once time when they are dealing products and they might have no chance to see each other again. However, in services marketing, consumers and service providers may have to see each other frequently throughout until the contract is ended or until the last thing that consumers ... His shares the vision of the church which is passed down from our senior pastor, Chris Hodges. Evangelism is the definition of the church so to speak, Church of the Highlands stands behind the final authority of God s word which is the bible. It is often said among the staff we do not argue the essentials, but we can disagree the non essentials. The church believes and acts in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, and helping people move through four steps our God has outlined in the Great Commission. Our Church exists to see people saved, delivered, redeemed, and fulfilled. This is accomplished with four systems that allow the people to move through the four steps. The first is weekend services to allow them to know God (saved), small groups to find freedom (delivered), growth track to discover purpose (redeemed), and dream team to be fulfilled and make a difference (fulfilled). This vision is how the church evangelizes (Bagwell). This vision is clear to all members of the church who call Church of the Highlands home, and even clear to people ... • 17. The Importance Of Cultural Literacy Cultural literacy is not a well known word in today s society but being culturally literate is essential to be an active participant in one s nation. Cultural literacy is the ability to understand a culture enough to be able to participate in it actively. In modern society, a large portion of Americans, especially in the younger generations, are not culturally literate and this poses a problem for the future of our community and our economy. Often fads are the defining points of recent cultural changes for example in the 70 s the hippie movement was a defining portion of American culture and even global culture. If someone did not understand that reference in that time, they would be unable to follow media, news, and possibly even everyday interaction. By examining the economic trends of manias, one seeks to gain a deeper understanding of how they affect our culture on a deeper level. As the very nature of fads is to have an unexplained and short lived popularity predicting economic trends of crazes is very nearly impossible to do accurately although there have been attempts to model fads (Plott and Smith). This can have a devastating effect on the economy and at the very least severely hurt individual investors. When the demand for certain fads becomes uncontrollable, they may cause an economic bubble to form. A financial bubble is when the price of an object dramatically outweighs its actual value (Singh) an example of this is the demand for twinkies during the Hostess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this text, gray uses the colour of yellow to express light, and sun, and to emphasis the preciousness of the colour yellow, which also symbolises gold. In this text, gray conveys yellow as the happy colour of the light, which is more natural and sweet to him, especially compared the fake lights and colours of the city. Stereotypes In Twelfth Night William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is a comedy about Viola, a woman who washes up in Illyria and then assumes the role of a man in order to be closer to Orsino, the man she wants to marry. It involves multiple cases of mistaken identities and deception. The stereotypical role of the sexes and gender also have a significant impact in the play. Ultimately it provides the opportunity to disrupt the fixed polarities upon which the normative Elizabethan society is based. This essay will discuss Belsey s statement that the closing of the play voids the transgressive gaps in sexual stereotypes. Charles is of opinion that, the representation of homoerotic attraction in Twelfth Night functions rather as a means of dramatizing the socially constructed basis of a sexuality that is determined by gender identity (Charles 1997:122). Before the twins, Viola and Sebastian, are married to heterosexual partners, both are involved in some form of homosexual relationship. While Oliva seems to be unaware of Cesario/Viola s true sex, the hint at the possibility of homoeroticism through dramatic irony is already enough to disrupt the stereotypical gender system. After Malvolio presents Viola/Cesario with Olivia s ring, Cesarios says, I am the man; if it be so, as tis,/Poor lady, she were better love a dream (Shakespeare 2004:84). Since justice is a concept that differs amongst every culture and group, it is difficult to empirically measure the effectiveness of an international court in regard to providing justice. However, supporters of international courts measure their success in ways other than justice brought. For example, if a group sees that other criminals are being tried, sentenced, and punished appropriately by an international court, one might assume that this group would be less inclined to carry out similar crimes. According to Hyeran Jo and Beth Simmons in their 2016 study on international criminal courts, a large study affiliated with the World Bank based on developing countries found that higher conviction rates tended to reduce crime, even controlling for the death penalty (Jo and Simmons, 447). Theoretically, an international court such as the International Criminal Courtcould deter groups and individuals from committing war crimes based on this criminological data, if these individuals and groups saw that the court prosecuted effectively and thoroughly. • 35. Ending Welfare Ending Welfare as We Know It by Meredith Vieira Before Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) became what it is known as today, it was called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). AFDC was a grant program created to allow states to fund cash welfare payments for needy children who struggle with parental support because of a father or mother s absence, unemployment, incapacity, or death. It was established by the Social Security Act of 1935. When President Clinton signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) in 1996, it replaced AFDC and its administration, the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training (JOBS) program, and the Emergency Assistance (EA) program with TANF, a cash welfareblock grant. The purpose of TANF was to discourage teens from having more babies by requiring them to live at home and also stay in school to qualify for the benefits. The child exclusion law was also created to reduce the birth of children since the old system allowed access for women to receive a raise in welfare benefits for every child they had. AFDC seems to work for Elba compared to TANF. In my opinion, I feel that the policies are actually helpful because it is designed for women to focus on other ways for support, instead of the sole reliance of welfare. I believe the policies promote self sufficiency and responsibility by requiring minors to continue their education. It also encourages women to work towards a more financially stable future. In Elba s case, however, I find this very difficult for her to attain, considering the fact that she is a minor and may not have all the education on what resources or services are available. • 36. Modern Media And Its Impact On Society Most countries around the world have cities and people that exist within media saturated spheres. Consumerism and commodification promote items to most economic classes, and through marketing they are urged to purchase and consume the products advertised. Japan is no exception to this, but there is a slight difference that appears to set Japan apart ever so slightly. In Japan, there is a group of consumers, sometimes regarded as a subculture, known as the otaku. For now, just bear in mind that the otaku are a group of consumers, often male, who purchase items associated with popular cartoons, videogames, and comics. They purchase these items and care for them with a reverence comparable to Western fandoms. The otaku, however, are more than fans. They engage in normal fandom behaviors, such as consuming popular media, creating works associated with the media they are a fan of, and supporting the creator or studio that produces the media they are fans of. In addition to these behaviors, the otaku also live in a society that is heavily influenced by rigid societal structures and tradition. With these elements in mind, the otaku can be examined in a myriad of ways. Historicism, sociology, anthropology, fandom studies, and feminism are just a few of the ways in which to examine this group. Many may wonder why studying this group may be beneficial, and the reason is that this dissertation has found just one of many reasons to examine the otaku. The reason is that their ... The Weight Of One Of The World s Most Dominant Religions Jesus as a Figure in History: a Wealth of Information for Those Already Informed Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the legacies of few people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and changed as many individual s lives, as Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one central question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame death and sin, offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To others, He was merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of the Common Era. And trying to figure out much else about Jesus is one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today. Those who lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories. But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... The action takes place in a hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee, which tells us that this space was built. There also is natural weather outside because it is raining heavily outside. We know this because whenever Camae, the maid, comes through the door, heavy rain is falling and sounds of thunder and lightning are presented. The whole play takes real time and does not have any changes of scenery or blackouts until the end. Time moves slow in this script because a lot of conversation is happening, not much action. The play is both easy going on time and not easy going on time. The fact that Camae says she needs to leave, tries to leave once, Mr. King is waiting on his friend to bring his cigarettes, and how quickly some of the conversations happen shows that the play can be short on time. It is leisurely easy going on time though because once they begin to talk, they are in no rush and have detailed conversations, almost as if they do not want the conversations to end. The mood changes throughout this play. At first, a subtle/relaxed mood can be portrayed, but towards the middle and end of the play a more intense vibe can be given because of how sudden things start to happen, like when Mr. King thinks Camae was sent to spy on him. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was said to be very reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. The Influence Of The Paleolithic Period And The Neolithic... 1.Three major cultural changes or contributions to the humanities that occurred between the Paleolithic period and the and the Neolithic period are the different techniques developed to hunt, the importance of the human figures, and the architecture. Different techniques to hunt were shown by looking at wall paintings, in the Paleolithicera paintings were found in deep caves and showed a realism of the animals they depended on for food, where as the Neolithicera paintings were located on smooth limestone, beneath cliff hangs, and in rock shelters these paintings showed the animals that they depended on for food also but these paintings showed the animals being hunted by human figures with bows and arrows. This shows that somewhere between the two eras humans developed a more efficient way to hunt and human figures became more important. Human figures were rarely known before the Neolithic era, wall paintings did not show them and sculptures of them were very rare except few female figures found from the Paleolithic age. In the Neolithic age, paintings not only showed the importance of human figures hunting but it showed them dancing, and fighting as a community. Sea lions and whales, Plesiosaur analogues, can endure environments which would kill a human. Humans are at risk of illness or death when returning from a great depth to the ocean s surface. In other words, the people in this situation with Pete (i.e. Sucker and Maybelle) could not have been imaginary because Pete would be in control of the situation and, as many people with imaginary friends do, turn the situation into their favor. The broken relationship between Pete and Sucker was definetly not in Pete s favor and neither was Pete able to repair it.
