How To Write A Good Introductory
Paragraph For An Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of formulating a compelling introductory paragraph may
seem deceptively straightforward at first glance, but delving into the nuances of this seemingly
simple task reveals a complexity that challenges even seasoned writers. The difficulty arises from
the delicate balance required to captivate the reader's attention without divulging too much
information, laying the groundwork for the essay's core ideas while maintaining an air of mystery.
To compose a good introductory paragraph, one must navigate the fine line between being
overly verbose and leaving the audience craving more substance. The writer must grapple with
the task of introducing the essay's topic in a way that is both engaging and informative, setting
the stage for the subsequent arguments without revealing the entire thesis upfront. This balancing
act demands a keen understanding of the essay's purpose, target audience, and the overarching
theme.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in the realization that the introductory paragraph serves as the
essay's first impression. It's the literary handshake that either solidifies the reader's interest or
prompts them to disengage prematurely. Crafting this critical component requires a meticulous
selection of words, a consideration of tone, and an awareness of the desired impact.
In essence, writing an essay on the art of constructing a stellar introductory paragraph entails a
deep dive into the dynamics of effective communication, psychology, and literary finesse. It
involves honing the ability to encapsulate the essence of the entire essay within a few sentences
while maintaining an alluring aura of mystery. As such, the difficulty arises not only from the
technical aspects of writing but also from the inherent challenge of captivating an audience from
the very beginning.
In conclusion, the task of elucidating the intricacies of composing an excellent introductory
paragraph for an essay proves to be a multifaceted endeavor, demanding a combination of skill,
creativity, and an acute understanding of the reader's expectations. Mastering this art is a
continuous process that writers embark upon, each attempt offering an opportunity for
refinement and growth.

Essay on Reality TV
Reality TV
Can you believe that reality television has actually been around since 1948? Most
of us may have thought that this idea of real television just came about in the last
decade but actually it s been around for quite some time. In 1948 Candid Camera
was the first reality show to be broadcasted on television. Many considered this to be
the granddaddy of the reality TV genre (History of reality TV). This show actually
began in radio broadcasting. Allen Funt was the man in charge of this whole new
production. He started by simply taping complaints of men in service and
broadcasting them over the Armed Forces Radio. This is what later became known as
the television show, Candid Camera. Candid Camera was known for ... Show more

Why Do People Watch Reality Television?
There has been a huge increase in reality based television over the last few years.
From Survivor to Big Brother it seems that we are constantly being bombarded with
a new type of reality television program. But why do people watch these shows?
What makes these shows so interesting? One theory brought up in an article in
Psychology Today by Steven Reiss Ph.D. and James Wiltz, a Ph.D. candidate at Ohio
State University, is that, reality television allows Americans to fantasize about
gaining status through automatic fame (Reiss and Wiltz, 2001). This is the American
dream, acquiring fame with little to no work at all. And what better way to do it than
on television?
But can reality television actually be called reality? Do people watch because
reality television offers an alternative to boring and hackneyed type programs? The
fact is that reality TV is just as boring and predictable as the so called unreal
programs. Reality TV can, for the most part, hardly be considered real. An article
in Rolling Stone confirms this, stating that, The premise is always the same: Put
ordinary stiffs on television on TV and they ll do anything, anything, to stay on TV.
Didn t we already learn that from Kirstie Alley? (Rolling Stone, 2001). If this were
in fact the case, then way would anyone watch what is described as something as
horribly predictable as the above? How could such a style of
Identity Of The American Identity
The American culture is made up of bits and pieces combined into one American
Identity. Throughout the process of finding this identity, came with courage,
religion, and fear. These three concepts provide compelling examples and
experiences that have shaped Americans into the best country there is. Having
courage in life is often half the battle. John Smith encounters so many hardships
that prove he dares to keep pursuing his goal. Eventually, after defeating and
beheading a succession of three Turkish officers in single combat in Rumania,
Smith was wounded in battle, taken as a prisoner and sold into slavery to a Turk.
Smith was passed from place to place until held prisoner on the Black Sea, he
murdered his master and fled back to Rumania via Russia and Poland, returning to
England in the winter of 1604 05. (Smith, pp. 82). Most people at this point would
typically become slightly discouraged because he has gotten beaten up and is
questioning if he can accomplish this or fail. The lesson we should take from Smith
in this story is that no matter how hard things get if you have a goal achieve it. There
will defiantly be hardships that come your way, but nothing in this life comes easy.
For example, the British encounter many hardships such as hunger, sickness, and
unfamiliarity. Being thrown into adapting to new situations is often hard. The natives
saw many things they were not accustomed to, a few of which include, muskets,
clothes, horses, compasses, and

The Future of the NCAA College athletic programs are among the most popular
sporting events in America. With this rise in popularity, the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) and its colleges have also seen a rise in revenue in
recent years. In 2014, the NCAA made over 900 million dollars in revenue. Some
collegiate coaches, such as Kentucky s John Calipari, have yearly salaries in the
millions, not counting incentives and endorsement deals. While, clearly, money is
being made, NCAA regulations ban collegiate athletes from being paid. Many
question this rule and argue that athletes at the college level earn and deserve pay for
play. The debate to pay or not to pay college athletes rages on despite the latest court
ruling supporting NCAA policies. Because colleges and universities earn such a profit
from sporting events, many fans feel it is only fair to distribute some of the wealth to
the players. Supporters of paying student athletes feel that these young men and
women should be fairly compensated for the time demanded of the athletes and the
stress put on the athletes, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Those in
favor of paying college athletes contend that athletic and academic work ethic at both
high school and collegiate levels will improve, as well as, fiscal responsibility in
these young adults. The NCAA argues that paying athletes would negatively affect

The Theory Of Absurdism In The Stranger By Albert
Camus
By the time his novel The
Stranger was published, writer and philosopher Albert Camus had already firmly
established his theory of the absurd. Camus portrays this theory in The Stranger
through a fictional narrative surrounding a young man s life and murder trial.
Although his philosophy has its skeptics, an analysis of Camus background and
historical context reveals why his ideologies hold true in not only the ways people
live, but how society as a whole functions. To begin, what exactly is absurdism? Two
basic principles form the foundation of this theory: the first is that life is meaningless,
and the second is that there is no rational order in the universe (Aronson). The theory
of the absurd asserts that humans seek to understand their life s purpose, but since
life has no meaning, they must learn to endure this irresolvable emptiness. Absurdism
is often confused with another concept known as existentialism, which includes the
idea of an absurd world within its own definition. However, rather than believing
that people s lives are inherently meaningless, existentialists presume that life is
only meaningless if an individual does not carry himself with what is called
authenticity, the quality of living one s life according to one s own reasons and
motives (Crowell). It can be difficult to understand why Camus would develop such
a depressive ideology if one does not take in the historical context of the theory s
founding. Around the time period Camus was
Descriptive Essay About Panagbenga Festival
Tan tan, tan tan tan tan tan tan tan (repeat) says the tune of the Panagbenga Hymn
that fills the sound waves of every Baguio home come February of each year. People
native to the city usually spread their arms and start flapping their hands as they
dance the Panagbenga Hymn. I know this, because I do it.
Panagbenga, this is the 21 year old festival celebrated in the City of Pines. The
festival celebrates the blooming flowers native to the cold breeze of the city. With its
established popularity among Filipinos, Panagbenga carved its name to the bucket

Each float is crafted differently that no float looks the same as the other. Floats
travel slow because of the weight of the flowers and the frame to hold the flowers,
but beyond that is the reason that each float flaunts the beauty and intricacy of the
art. With this unhurried pace, everyone has the chance to take a photo with the float
utilizing the front cameras of the smartphone. I wasn t surprised by the volume of
people doing their selfies but how they maneuver around the crowd to produce an
internet worthy photo amazed me. I am in awe basically because I am not an expert
on taking selfies while they do it with minimal effort. In addition to this, what has got
me observing these selfie lords are the faces they do as they take selfies as the float
passes. Angle every angle of their faces are projected with the float in the
background. I find it even funnier how they deform their faces into different smiles
others let out their tongue while the others do the duck face. It s just interesting to see
people do all these things to themselves and taking multiple shots while there s just
one background the
I Am Legend Research Paper
I Am Legend vs The Land of the Dead: The Evolution of the Zombie Subgenre
When examining the horror film subgenre of zombies, it is imperative to look at the
evolution of the creatures, and determine why the newer films are typically superior
to their older counterparts. Directors tend to adapt zombie films in order to fit the
fears and the experience of a modern audience, which is why the films continue to
improve. This is obvious even in the short time span of about three years. The filmI
am Legend, which was released late in 2007, and was directed by Francis Lawrence.
Lawrence selected the talented stars Will Smith, Alice Braga, and Charlie Tahan to
play his characters in the film. The film Land of The Dead, was released early in 2005,

This film focuses on the post apocalyptic city of New York City, where the last
man in the city, Robert Neville, is fighting to survive, while seeking a cure to the
disease that caused the zombies to arise. The only companionship that Neville is
able to find is in his dog, Sam. Despite his isolation, Neville remains determined,
believing that he can still fix this and that he will light up the darkness (I Am
Legend). The most fascinating theme in this film is also the most subtle. I am
Legend contains a religious undertone, which many of the viewers will not notice
the first time that they watch the film. Neville is portrayed as the resurrection of
Christ, as he sacrifices his life to the discovery of the vaccine, and the welfare of
humanity. Butterflies, which symbolize the resurrection of Christ, are also seen
several times in this film, which only adds to the religious theme. Neville s
daughter is shown making a butterfly for her father before she and her mother
attempt to flee the city. Also, there is a butterfly tattoo on the woman that Neville
sacrifices his life for, by hiding her in a shaft while he confronts the zombies.
Overall, I am Legend has a wider variety of themes than Land Of the Dead, and
therefore is more enjoyable to watch, as one needs to pay close attention to truly

The Southern Stereotype Essay
Long Live Southern Stereotypes
Ever since Scarlett O Hara struggled to find love and Andy Taylor was elected
Mayberry s Sheriff, filmmakers and television producers have yet to lose any
fondness for stereotyping the southern culture. There are many who despise any form
of labeling or stereotyping within the media, fearing false characterizations or
inaccurate portrayals of southern customs, traditions, and people. Exposure to
southern stereotypes through media is an appealing element in the American lifestyle
that can render endearing impressions, contribute genuine metaphors, and provide
viewers with a unique and fascinating (whether positive or negative) glimpse toward
a regional culture.
The mass media, or media at large, would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are pointed descriptions, but they are true and the American culture loves (and
loves to hate) the southern stereotype and it is here to stay.
Now what about those who may have that southern stereotypical drawl? Southern
accents do not make one stupid; being stupid does. Southerners should be proud of
the southern accent. However, the media has managed to cause dismay among
many southerners who possess the engaging and attractive drawl. Should a visitor
traveling to North Dakota, view a Fargo native as stupid or ignorant because of the
distinct accent heard there? Should a North Dakota resident ridicule a person from
the Bronx because of the peculiar accent heard there? Somehow people are ashamed
of their unique speech patterns rather than being proud of a colloquial accent. The
southern stereotype will be here for a long time to come, so love it and embrace it.
According to Jack G. Shaheen in his essay titled, The Media s Image of Arabs,
Hollywood producers must have instant kits that contain sunglasses, Arab clothing,
tents, and mosques in order to provide a snapshot of Hollywood s stereotypical Arab
(99). Undoubtedly, the same holds true when depicting the typical southern example.

Drinking Laws Essay
I. Introduction and Description of Problem (APX 2 PAGES)
1) Statement of the Problem: (5 pts)
Eighteen year olds throughout the United States are considered legal adults in almost
every way, with one notable exception: the privilege of having an alcoholic beverage.
In every state, eighteen year olds are legally permitted to drive, live as they choose,
and work where they choose. Eighteen year olds pay taxes as other adults do, are
subject to all criminal and civil laws, and are punished, jailed and even executed for
crimes they might commit against such laws. They are also permitted to hold most
local, state and federal government public offices, and can sponsor and pass new laws
if elected. Again, the only exception to complete adult ... Show more content on

These problems are solved in establishing secure family life, not in legislating of an
unfair drinking age limitation of 21. Denying an 18 year old the privilege of
having a beer while applauding that same 18 year old s participation in potentially
mortal combat in an Afghanistan cave as an active duty soldier is an irony worth
study. This unfair issue deserves national attention. Because Congress cannot
effectively pass a law that establishes a secure family life for all Americans, it can
at least right a wrong by repealing the 21 year old restriction. Passage of a national
18 year old drinking age law brings about essential fairness, finally permitting full
adult rights to those now considered adults in every other way possible.
2) Legislative History of this Issue
There have been numerous related bills in Congress covering the issue of
underage drinking in the United States. The first of these were a series of
prohibition bills in the 1850 s, followed by the national prohibition bills in the
1920 s, then several bills in the recent decades, a few of which are covered below.
The main issue in each of these bills involved limiting of alcohol altogether, though
each also included issues dealing with establishment of a legal age at which alcohol
could be or was consumed.
History in this overall subject seems
The Gulf Of Mexico Dead Zone
The main problem this paper intends to discuss regards the Gulf of Mexico dead
zone. This dead zone, which for the most part encompasses the water off the coast of
Louisiana, becomes depleted in dissolved oxygen. The dead zone is an outcome of
nutrient runoff into the Gulf from urban areas, wastewater treatment plants, and from
atmospheric deposition, however, the majority comes from fertilizers used in
agriculture around the Mississippi River Basin. The increase in nutrients has been
affecting the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem by forming difficult conditions in which
organisms live. Another consequence that is directly related to the ecosystem damage
is the effect on the fishing economy in in the region. In the paper I will address the
questions, how has the dead zonespecifically caused damage to the ecosystem of the
Gulf of Mexico and how has that damage affected the economic productivity of the
fisheries? Furthermore, what policy solutions exist to solve the dead zone problem?
Dead zones develop due to excess nutrients getting into water causing eutrophication,
which means over enrichment. River runoff deposits these nutrients, which come
from upstream, a large amount from agriculture of the Midwest. Nitrogenand
phosphorus, the primary excess nutrients, are limiting nutrients to primary producers,
such as phytoplankton, that live in the surface oceans. Since those elements are
limiting nutrients, an elevated influx of them will cause an explosion of productivity

The research paper was published online under the ICSA ( International Cultic

the Cultic Studies Review. As the title of the study states, the research was used to
find the perception of former cultic members before and during their involvement in

people to join cults, and as well as delve in the topic of previous mental health seekers
and the impact on them when joining these cults.
Unfortunately, the hypothesis wasn t clearly mentioned in the research paper.
However, it could be easily predicted that the hypothesis is surrounding the topic that
most people who join cults believe that the cults are morally good and healthy for
them. The prediction is based on the fact that the articles states that most cultic
members are derived from normal family environments instead of having a troubled
past. Also, the researcher focuses on the attitudes of joining a cult, which in the

Puritans In Twelfth Night
Despite what many may think, being called a Puritan is an insult. Malvolio is the
head servant in Lady Olivia s house; he represents the Puritans in the play Twelfth
Night. Twelfth Night is a play written by William Shakespeare. It is a comedic play
about a girl name Viola, who pretends to be a guy named Cesario, and the love
triangle that she is involved in. Malvolio represents the Puritans in the play Twelfth
Nightbecause of his need for power, his attitude, and his opinions. The Puritans
beliefs are very similar to Malvolio s. According to Christine Heyrman a professor at
the University of Delaware, the puritans wantto prohibit all vices. Of these vices
include gambling, being drunk, swearing, dressing very showy, and Sabbath

Marry, sir, sometimes he is kind of puritan (Shakespeare). Maria said this to Sir

think, I could be Count Malvolio! (Shakespeare, Twelfth Night) This is part of a
little rant that Malvolio had about Sir Toby and how he would love to marry Lady
Olivia so he could be the Count of the house. Malvolio is a very self righteous guy,
who wants to climb the social ladder. He does not like the class he is in now
because he wants to be in control. This is just like the puritans because they
wanted to be in control of the churches and have the power over what was being
taught about the word of God. Malvolio hates Sir Toby because he is a drunk. This
is similar to how to the puritans want to prohibit all the vices, which include being
drunk, along with other things. Malvolio is also a killjoy which is similar to the
puritans because they follow the word of God very
Characteristics Of The Renaissance
The beginning of the renaissance started in the 1400 s in Florence. Many turned
towards Humanism which was an emphasis on man s qualities and power.
Idealistic realism was showed through the paintings in this time. Idealistic realism
was a way of painting people as real as possible, to how they would look like in life.
Michelangelo demonstrated this technique through his statue, The David. The
Renaissance also focused on what is now called the ideal renaissance man , which
was an athletic looking, handsome, and intelligent man. During this time, the Caravel
was invented, which was a large boat used mostly for exploration. This was a new
way to spread the ideas and also expand territory. These were the same boats that
Columbus used to found North America. Another key event during this time was the
Spanish Inquisition. Spain decided that they only wanted Catholics in there country
so the soon used violence to convert the Muslims and Jews to Catholicism. Soon
most of Spain had become Catholic. These are just a few of the characteristics of the
Renaissance, which all connect together and in short, shape the decisions of the
people of this time. The 15th century was filled with many religious complications
and many of the new moral standards and lifestyles were affected by the disasters that
occurred in the 14th century. There was the Western Schism, church corruption, and
the Spanish Inquisition, all of which changed the church to the modern sense they are
now. Throughout the
Waist Training Ethical Issues
Waist training is a trend that has transformed the olden day Victorian corset into a
modern day waist trainer. It reshapes the lower ribs to create a small waist line.
Wearing a waist trainer may provide a boost of confidence. However, it can also
bring about many negative health effects such as the shifting of pelvic and abdominal
organs, interference with breathing and digestive process.
The first ethical issue identified is that there is no transparency in social media
marketing. It sends the wrong message to their audience that waist training is okay
when it is not. Gabriella, a 16 year old student, wears her waist trainer under her
uniform. The reason behind this is that she aspires to look like her idol, Kim
Kardashian, who actively promotes the use of waist trainer on her social media.
However, Gabriella is only able to consume salad leaves during mealtimes as her
waist trainer restricts her from consuming too much food. The loss of weight is not
due to the use of waist trainer, but rather due to the fact that it is so tight that it is
uncomfortable to eat. Negative effects of using a waist trainer is also not known to
consumers explicitly when being marketed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Kappa
One very interesting man eating cryptid is the Kappa. This creature can be found
in bodies of water all around Japan (mysteriousuniverse.org). Considered a water
imp by folklore, the Kappa is around the same size as a small child and also has a
shell on its back. They also have a beak of some sorts and webbed feet and hands.
The identifying feature of a Kappa however is the indentation in the top of its
head. Considered a bowl in lore, it contains the liquid that gives the Kappa its
strength. However harmless the Kappa may sound, it is actually quite dangerous.
This creature is known to kill humans as well as molest women. The way that a
Kappa kills someone is by pulling them deep into the water and then sucking all of
the blood out of them. Another way that they kill their victims is by sucking out the
victim s innards through the anus. In general, Kappas are very dangerous to be
around and find humans to be a tasty snack. Many believe that Kappas do exist and
that they are out there and are behind the unexplained disappearances of many
Japanese citizens. In 1818, proof of the Kappa came into exist after one was killed

Sound Effects In Dracula
Sound is an imperative aspect of film that allows the audience to perceive a movie
with a deeper sense of reality. Sounds do more than just inform the audience of the
actions occurring in the film, they evoke feelings from them. Music is especially
exceptional at causing audience reactions because people connect with musicand seem
to understand what it is trying to convey. Bram Stokers Draculauses music and sound
to make the audience respond a certain way and to assist in telling the tale of a
treacherous vampire who is on a quest to reclaim his true love. The director
successfully creates characterization with the individualized music he associates with
certain characters. Dracula s theme is a perfect example. Whenever Dracula appears...

The addition of sound effects to a scene can change the way the audience perceives
the occurring action. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, one of the best uses of sound
effects is used to set the stage of Dracula s castle. As Jonathan pulls up to the castle
for the first time, both he and the audience hears off screen sounds of wolves
howling, ominous winds blowing, as well as thunder. All of these sounds cue the
audience to have feelings of dread about the castle, as those sounds are all well
known indicators of misfortune. Subjective sounds are also utilized in Bram
Stoker s Dracula, and there are many types. The reading of Mina s journals and
Jonathan s letters to home as they write them are prime examples of epistolary
narration, which is a type of subjective sound that recurs often in Bram Stoker s
Dracula (Raskin). The epistolary narration is used to fill gaps in time and to
progress the story by letting the audience know how the characters are feeling in one
quick scene (Raskin). Amplified sound is also used in Bram Stoker s Dracula.
Sounds that follow the theme of death and blood are amplified the most, perhaps to
represent the importance of blood to vampires. Two scenes in the film actually use
the imaginary sound blood makes to unsettle the

Examples Of Hunger In Night By Elie Wiesel
Hunger made Elie and his father only closer, but everyone has to eat. The quote is
after Elie and his father ran more than 20 kilometers from Auschwitz to an
abandoned village. Being hungry, thirsty, and especially exhausted would be the
only things a person would think if they had done the march while hungry and
thirsty. But Elie comes said that quote to prove the strength of the bond between him
and his father. Another time in which the prisoners marched was running to
Gleiwitz. They stayed there for three days with no food or water, the prisoners were
moved into roofless cattle cars, almost 100 people in a car. The prisoners were
handed the usual ration before getting on the train and ate snow in order to quench
their thirst. Many of the prisoners are all in a condition not fit enough to make a
march, but there was something pushing those people to keep on surviving. Elie
had witnessed another father and son in the group, however they did not have a
bond like his. Starvation drives people to their limits sometimes and cannot handle
themselves. Meir was beating up his own father for some crumbs of bread,
meanwhile the father is pleading with his son to not kill him, Meir, my little Meir!
Don t you recognize me... you re killing your father... I have bread... for you too...
for you too... (Wiesel 101). Then, he searched his father s body just for the crumbs,
however other prisoners jumped on top of Meir, looking for the same miniscule
crumbs. For Elie, he dreamed about soup and

Engineering. My passion to understand aircraft design has motivated me to work on
design of various fuselage components during the course of my career. I was always
interested to know about how various components are sized and the math behind

My favourite subjects were Thermodynamics and Computer Aided Design and
Modeling (CADCAM), in which I had great interest to learn and experiment. During
my four year course, I participated in various technical festivals of Institution of
Technology s (IIT s), which are the premier institutions of my country, India.
Participation in these festivals gave me a practical understanding of my studies and
exposure of the real world. The competitions I participated involved business idea
presentation, design event using CAD and building a step climbing robot. These
visits had a major impact on my approach towards problem solving and gave me the
ability to imagine and understand things faster and better.
At Infosys, I was trained professionally in CATIA before getting deployed in the
project. I started my career working as a design support engineer for Mitsubishi
Aircraft Corporation, for their regional jet program. During my five years of working,
the program matured from preliminary design phase to development phase, giving me
an insight into the complete design and development of the fuselage. I also had the
opportunity to witness and contribute to the various design and configuration changes
during my tenure in the program. My experience in this program spans across design

How Does Shakespeare Use Character Foils In Hamlet
Character Foils of Hamlet
Character foils are important to any story or play as they compare and contrast
character traits as the story unfolds. The use of character foils allows the audience to
understand a characters way of thought and the actions that they take. Character foils
show the moral behaviour and can help the audience see contradictory factors that
help advance the plot. Although characters may seem similar, the use of character
foils can show their differences. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the use of
character foils proves Fortinbras is a stronger political leader over Hamlet, the
contrasting view of Laertes as a son in comparison to Hamlet and Horatio being
thought of as the better man in contradiction to Hamlet.
Fortinbras is a stronger political leader then Hamlet, and his actions to avenge his
father s death show Hamlets cowardly behaviour. Fortinbras is a strong political
leader and takes rapid action to seek revenge for his father s death. Fortinbras is
willing to risk not only his life but also the lives of two thousand soldiers to fight
for his father s vengeance. The captain says to Hamlet, We go to gain a little patch
of ground/That hath in it no profit but the name. (4.4.18 19). Fortinbras is willing to
fight for worthless land if it is in his father s name. The land may not be worth
anything, but to Fortinbras it is worth the battle to honour his father. This proves
Fortinbras is a strong political leader because he is showing his

What Was The Market Revolution
The Market Revolution established tariffs, national bank, and internal improvements.
Farmers were producing the best goods to other markets, and buy the products they
could not grow or make themselves. People began to believe their role in the
economy changed by the thought of to be self sufficient farmers, which they believed
they were associates in the national and international marketplace. The idea made
them lean more to commercial and capitalist intentions and becoming consumers. The
Market Revolution consist of a transportation and communications revolution, a
transition to commercialized farming, and industrialization. These three changes
resulted in social changes. The people were able to communicate regarding the

The Worst Times Of The United States Young History
Arthur Asher Miller lived through some of the best and the worst times in the
United States young history. He was born on October 17, 1915, in the middle of
World War 1, when the American economy was booming and the standard of living
had increased throughout the nation. Miller had two siblings, an older brother and
a younger sister. Miller s mother was a teacher at a public school and his father
was a manufacture of women s coats in New York City (Nelson 13). Growing up,
Miller had little responsibility and spent many summers surfing or fishing with his
friends. However, when he was around thirteen years old, he did have a job for a
bakery delivering bread, rolls, and baked goods in the morning before he went to

both Cornell University and the University of Michigan. Unfortunately, neither of
them accepted Miller due to his poor performance in high school. In the same year
he applied one more time to Michigan and they offered him reconsideration, if
Miller could acquire statements from his high school teachers. These affirmations
had to show that in Miller had shown some academic progress in his senior year.
Miller realized that the odds would not be in his favor and that his teachers were
not going to write good things about his academic achievement. Miller began
working at his father s garment company; however, he soon loathed working there.
Miller stopped working at his father s company and commenced his job search once

was able to save a lot of his money. It was easy for Miller to save money because he
still lived at home and was able to save 75 percent of his monthly paycheck. He
used his savings to reapply to the University of Michigan in 1934. He pleaded with

The Communications Decency Act (CDA) was written to stop and or target online
obscenity and child pornography, however, these types of speech were previously
illegal under other current federal laws. According to the CDA it is a crime to send,
display or view any content considered to be that is considered indecent or patently
offensive. Problem arises in the useable definitions of indecent and patently offensive.
In the past, the CDA has banned and attempted to prosecute constitutionally protected
speech on the Internet on topics like sexuality, reproduction, civil liberties, and
human rights. There were multiple lawsuits and court cases after President Clinton
signed this bill into law in 1996. Various online communication users and providers
from political, educational, medical, artistic, and social value venues were all
possible targets for prosecution under CDA. This government censorship was
unnecessary because there are already laws and filtering technologies in place to
protect children in schools and libraries. Parents also have access to screening and
filtering technology to protect their children if they choose to use them. Parents can
also limit computer access and be diligent about scrutinizing where their children go
on the Internet. The CDA s law banning indecent and patently offensive material is an

Tony Stark s Character Growth in Iron Man In the beginning of Iron Man, the
main protagonist, Tony Stark, was generally a bad person. He was an extreme

having seen the horrors of his weaponry firsthand, Stark set out to right the wrongs.
At his first press conference after coming home, Tony said, I saw young Americans
killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw that
I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero accountability . (Iron Man
) He then proceeded to shut down the weaponry arm of Stark Industries. These
actions are the sign of a changed man. Tony Stark went from war profiteering to
whistleblowing for corrupt arms dealing. Finally, Tony Stark s most obvious
change was simply in becoming a superhero. From the start of the movie, Stark
was a rich, self interested playboy who would be more concerned over a scratch on
the finish of his Audi R8 than the fate of the free world unless it benefitted him.
Taking a completely different direction, Tony used his Iron Man suit to pursue
those who wrongfully used Stark Industries weapons. Stark even stated, I shouldn t

I have to do. And I know in my heart that it s right . (Iron Man) This
Paul Modrich And The Dna Mismatch Repair System Essay
Claire Wisener
Paul Modrich and the DNA Mismatch Repair System
On December 10, 2015, three profound individuals received the Nobel Prize in
chemistry for their work on DNA repair systems. Paul Modrich, Thomas Lindahl, and
Aziz Sancar studied how the cell repairs and protects the information held in its DNA
; specifically, Paul Modrich focused on DNA mismatch repair. Since DNA
constantly replicates, damage and incorrect pairings are expected, but enzymes
watch over DNA as it replicates and repair any errors that occur. In the mismatch
repair system, enzymes find the mismatch in the copy of DNA, cut the incorrect
section out, and replace it with the correct sequence. Paul Modrich s study of the
mismatch repair system has provided the medical field with important information
regarding cancer growth and the possibility of a cure. Paul Modrich was born June
13, 1946. Growing up in the small town of Raton in northern New Mexico caused
Modrich to have an interest in science since childhood (HHMI). The large amount
of biodiversity surrounding him sparked his interest in biology and DNA, and his
father, the biology teacher at the local high school, encouraged Modrich to pursue
his interests in DNA. After graduating from Raton High School, Modrich went on to
receive his bachelor s degree in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in 1968 and later went to Stanford University to get his PhD in biochemistry in 1973
(Duke University School of Medicine). In the late 1970s,

Bagheera grows eerie and insist that the boy be taken back to the nearby man

The Jungle Book was originally a darker story that did not fit into the typical

Disney s next big hit. Walt allowed Peet to take on the task of creating a more
suitable children s film, but after the story, Walt was ready to have some input on
the process. Walt stepped in after the original story was fleshed out and decided to
voice his concerns. It was too dark for Disney, who wanted a friendlier, light

to be told in medias res, but once again, Walt decided that was not how he wanted

Ethics And Its Impact On Business Ethics
Behind every successful company there is a strong foundation of ethics. Their
vision, mission, behavior as a company, beliefs, and convictions all stem from their
ethics. Not all companies have this foundation. To some, it is not believed to be
essential for success. Ethics is important in business because our day to day life
involves these businesses. The places we go to buy clothes, food, cars, computers,
and services are all different kinds of businesses that we support financially. How
many of the businesses around us have a strong foundation of ethics? How do we
know that these companies don t have workers working excruciating hours behind
the scenes to produce the things that are seen on the shelves? How do we know that
they are treating their workers with kindness and respect, as well as customers?
Business ethicsare important for not only the workers of those companies, but for
their consumers. There is a domino effect that is caused when a consumer from a
company with good business ethics recognizes it. As a result, the consumer returns,
bringing with them more consumers, resulting in more profit for the business and a
healthy work environment for its workers.
Ethics is defined as the philosophical investigation and explanation of moral facts
such as moral evaluations, commandments, norms, virtuous acts and manifestations
of conscience. Basically, it is what is morally considered right or wrong according to
an individual (Wiley 22). Ethics in the work place lead
Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates
1.Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides
important in nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and
their component monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found?
There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose.
Monosaccharides are a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These
different sugars all have the same structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12
hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules of chemistry with each
carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The difference
between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each
provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and
is very important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose,
having the same chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the
sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. The order
difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in
Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101) There are three types of
disaccharides as well; Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are compounds
of the monosaccharide groups. Maltose consists of 2 glucose atoms; this is created
when starches break down. Sucrose consists of one glucose and one fructose atom
and is the sweetest of the
The Security Of Network Security And Web Security
The network security professionals across the globe have provided details about the
attacks so that the security software can be improved, however there are some
shortcuts that can improve the security for the time being or if the web host has a
difficulty in procuring modern security software, these techniques can help the web
host to increase the securityof both the web server and clients that are connected to
the web server.
The CRIME and BREACH attack both target compression that is either HTTPS or

The security can also be bolstered by hiring alleged attackers that can point out the
weaknesses that are exploited and then these weaknesses can be strengthened by the
security professionals.
There are also various techniques that can stop the attacker to access the LAN router
so that there is not attack initiated from the Wi Fi of a client computer. The LAN
router in public places are not extensively secure and the attackers either use these
networks to initiate attack on others so that they cannot be traced or they can simply
attack the users on this network to leak information that is important.
The protection of HTTPS connection should also be upgraded or security add ons
should be created to protect the integrity of the browser so that the client cannot be
affected by the malicious JavaScript that is sent by the attacker. There are browsers
like Chrome and Mozilla which are not affected from the attack as they have
extensively worked together to ensure that security is not penetrated or bypassed by
the attacker. The other companies should also work in cooperation with each other to
ensure that their security is paramount and that attackers are minimised.
The JavaScript sends requests to a web server that is created by the attacker to
capture the information from the client so the client also needs to employ security
Football Concussionss And Concussions
Questions like What day is it? , or What time is it? can be good indicators, as
someone with a concussion will likely lose their short term memory ability
temporarily. The best way to deal with someone that has a concussion is to be patient
with them because they will have a hard time right after getting a concussion
remembering anything. Even after discussing ALS, CTE, and concussions and head
trauma, why is it that so far, only the NFL has taken a step in the right direction with
new helmets for their players?
The one set apart from football, is that it requires equipment for protection unlike
soccer, where the players wear only shin guards to protect their legs from other
players. Even in sports like lacrosse, there is minimal protective gear given to
athletes. The most likely athletes to get ALS, CTE or Concussions are boxers. Their
job is all about hitting their opponent until he is knocked out, or the rounds end.
Unconsciousness is one of the side effects of a concussion and there seems to be a
connection between boxing and CTE as well, except CTE is contracted through
multiple hits to the head without unconsciousness. The NFL seems to be the only
national sports league that has started taking steps to reduce the risk of concussions,
or an ALS/CTE diagnosis. No other league in any other sport has even changed the
rules of the game to make it safer for the athletes. In looking at each of the popular
sports in the world, it would be hard to change the rules because
Key Lessons For Those Who Lead From The Middle Year

Are you a leader but not the leader? That is the category into which most leaders
fall. Great things can be accomplished by those who lead from the middle. They
may or may not get the credit. However, credit is not the goal. The goal is
faithfulness, progress, success, change, or resolution depending on the situation.
It does not matter who gets the credit so long as the job gets done. I love and respect
my leader so very much. I also take joy on those occasions where he says or initiates
something over which I had influence. We he wins, I win and all of our staff wins.
If the organization does well that is good for all who are affiliated. Therefore, I am

You will not always get your way. You will encounter some people whose motives
are not pure and their actions will bring hurt to you. What do you do in those
circumstances? You must offer genuine forgiveness and let go of the hurts. If not,
you will become the cynic and will be unable to accomplish the aims described in the
previous point. Buddy Hackett once said that while you carry the grudge the other
guy is out dancing. What does that mean? It means you only hurt yourself and not
only do you become an anchor holding back your organization but you also become
the anchor to your own personal development and effectiveness. You will get hurt and
when it happens you must work through it, learn from it, and then let go.

hard workers and you should be. However, on this point you should not compromise.

boundaries, good time management, and a strong work ethic. Do you possess those
four qualities or skills? If not get help because your church, organization, and most
importantly your family need your leadership.

Impact of Foreign Aid on Poverty and Economic
Development...
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
This project focuses on the poverty profile in Nigeria, the foreign aids given to the
nation to help alleviate poverty and how it affects the economic development of
Nigeria. According to the World Bank website, poverty is hunger. It is lack of shelter.
Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. It is not being able to go to
school, not knowing how to read, and not being able to speak properly. Poverty is not
having a job, and is fear for the future, and living one day at a time. It is losing a
child to illness brought about by unclean water. And lastly, it is powerlessness, lack of
representation and freedom.
Poverty is the inability to achieve a certain minimum standard of living. It is ... Show

By 1996, it was very obvious that urban poverty had become an increasing problem
in Nigeria. For example, the number of people in poverty increased from 27% in
1980 to 46% in 1985. it declined slightly to 42% in 1992, and increased very sharply
to 67% in 1996. In 1999, estimates showed that over 70% of Nigerians lived in
poverty. The government then declared in November 1999 that the 470 billion naira
budget for the year 2000 was to relieve poverty.
By 1996, Nigeria had become the 13th poorest country in the world and occupied the
142nd rank on the human development index (HDI) scale. (World Bank, 1996)
With the reforms, the real growth became positive but there was still a question
whether the reform alleviated poverty; how far poverty was reduced.
Foreign aid is the economic help provided to communities of countries due to the
occurrence of a humanitarian crisis or for the achievement of a socioeconomic
objective. There are two types of aids:
Humanitarian aid is the immediate assistance given to individuals, organizations or
government for emergency relief caused by war or natural disasters. Development aid
is help given by developed countries to support economic or social development in
developing countries so as to create long term sustainable economic growth.
The sources of foreign aids include bilateral and multilateral aids. Bilateral aid is
given by the government of one country directly to another. Multilateral aid is aid

Assess The Difference Between Direct And Representative...
A direct democracy or pure democracy is a form of government wherein the citizens
have a direct say.
In a representative democracy is a form of government wherein it s citizens vote for
or elect someone to represent them.
People who are born in the direct or pure democracy have a direct say in laws,
choices, and issues that affect them or they have a problem with.
People born in a representative democracy can only vote for the people that wanted to

They both had people who tried to trick them into voted for the wrong person when

Kingdom of Heaven is a historical movie based on the second crusade. Although
the movie does have many things that are accurate in this movie. Hollywood has
made some problems with this movie. So why did Hollywood change things? For a
better movie? Maybe they just didn t find all the facts. Maybe Hollywood just
didn t get their facts straight. King Baldwin IV was a real person and he did have
leprosy. He did have a sister who gained the throne in later years as well. The
problem is that Hollywood forgot to mention his five year old nephew having the
throne for a short time before his sister. The article Latin king of Jerusalem Baldwin

Balian the blacksmith in France. Correctly, it would be Balian the high ranking
knight who knew his father and was from Jerusalem. Balian did know his dad in
fact his father was not named Godfrey it was Balian of D ibelin. Also he never left
Jerusalem with Sibylla. In fact, Helena Schrader says, In 1188 Saladin released
Guy de Lusignan, taken captive at Hattin. He went first to Antioch to be reunited
with his wife, Queen Sibylla. Why did Hollywood change this? Probably to appeal
to the heart tearing side of the story. Why the name change of Balian to Godfrey?
The fact is it would be confusing if you had two people in the movie with the same
name. Kingdom of Heaven is a very well put together movie with some
nonfictional as well as fictional information. The idea of this is to show you that
you should not believe everything you see. So next time you see a movie that is
supposed to be historically correct. Do some digging and you might find gold.
Maybe they are correct and you will find nothing at all. Always question everything.

Is Dance A Sport Essay
Is dance a sport? Many people right now are thinking How is the harlem shake or
the cupid shuffle a sport? , but that is not what we are talking about, we are talking
about dance sports and teams. But Sport is in the name DANCESPORT is what
some are saying now, but many still don t accept this kind of danceas a sportyet.
There are two sides to this argument, those who are for dance as a sport are usually
those who are in a dance sport or are educated in the subject. While those who are
against it as a sport tend to not be part of a dance sport or just don t know what they
are truly talking about. So why don t we delve into this argument. Let s start with the
definition of a sport. Oxford defines a sport like this an activity that... Show more

They get down to the very definition of what a sport is, and have found dance meets
if not supasses all the requirments; expcialy when compared to what some call Real
sports . Dance meets all the requirements as it requires: physical ability and Skill
like any sport, it has set rule like any sport, it has competition like any sport, people
do it to entertain other and/or themselves and for money or enjoyment like any
other sport, you need to train yourself for it like any other sport and there are set
places where you participate in these Dancesports; just like any other sport. All of
these thing some not even required to meet the definition of what a sport is are
met by Dancesports. While those who oppose the very idea, they just say the
opposite with little knowledge or experience to backup these claims. Those against
it keep dragging this on even to the point where they result to insulting those for it
to make up for their lack of evidence and facts. Even when someone does have facts
against Dancesports, those for it come up with evidence to go against it. This
argument is pointless and is being dragged out too long, by those who are
Research Paper On Roberto Firmino
Big Game Player
Roberto Firmino also has the innate ability to turn up in the big games. We have
seen relatively little of him in the Premier League so far but his record in crunch
games is good. Against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea
and Arsenal he has scored 5 and assisted 3 in 8 appearances across all competitions.
If you also simply look at the games where Liverpool made tough work of the
opposition, you will notice how crucial Roberto has been in the scoring. For
instance he struck twice in the 3 3 draw at Anfield to Arsenal, he scored twice and
assisted once in the thrilling last gasp 5 4 victory to Norwich at Carrow Road, he
scored one and assisted the other in a draw vs. Sunderland at Anfield and assisted
the only goal of the game at Anfield against league leaders Leicester. This of course
isn t counting the second goal scored against Manchester United in the Europa
League first leg right at the death to extend Liverpool s lead crucially, thus allowing
the Merseyside club a crucial added advantage going into the second leg. Roberto
Firmino has this to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most would have one straight look and say the idea is simple, without Firmino
Liverpool win only a third of their games and with him they win half of them.
However, the point here is Roberto hasn t featured mostly in those games which have
been fixtures for the Capital One Cup or FA Cup, two competitions where Liverpool
have fielded weakened teams . Hence, this statistic is a little difficult to trust.
However, two very obvious occasions when a strong side bereft of Roberto Firmino
has been fielded to detrimental effect are, Liverpool s away fixture at Old Traffold
against Manchester United and more recently against Southampton in the

The History of the Word Damn Essay
The word damn has a long and complicated history. How it entered the English
language and answering the questions how, when and why it has come to mean the
things it does is difficult to answer. It can be used to mean condemn or condemn
specifically to hall (by God), and can be used as mild profanity. Tracing the road
damn has traveled to become both a religious term and a swear word shows many
interesting features of language and the ways in which language are used.
The word damn entered the English language from the Old French word damne r
during the Middle English period and first appeared in writing in the early 14th c.
(OED s.v. damn). In Latin the word dampnДЃ re meant to damage, hurt or condemn,
which, with the suffix ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, if it is not a theological tern, then why does it only appear in religious texts?
This could just be a coincidence since there were a lot of these sort of books
around and many of them have survived. Also, while these texts are about religion
and worship, they were written not written for religious scholars but for common
people, and they did not yet need a new set of theological terms in English because
scholarly work was done in Latin with Latin words (Crystal 128). English was the
language of the lower classes since the Norman invasion, but by the time Cursor
Mundi was written, the French aristocracy in England had lost their original ties to
France and were beginning to speak English. These aristocrats still used many
French words for prestige, but among the lower classes, English was seen as the
right and natural language and French as the language of oppression and
foreignness (Watson 334). Cursor Mundi tries to be as English as posible, stating
to its readers that it is about the love of Englis lede, / Englis lede of Engelande (qtd.
in Watson 334) and goes on to the superiority of English over French. So we can
conclude that damn was not a theological term since the first texts it appeared in,
while religious in content, are not theological works, and, in fact, the exact opposite
is true: these

How To Write A Good Introductory Paragraph For An Essay

  • 1. How To Write A Good Introductory Paragraph For An Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of formulating a compelling introductory paragraph may seem deceptively straightforward at first glance, but delving into the nuances of this seemingly simple task reveals a complexity that challenges even seasoned writers. The difficulty arises from the delicate balance required to captivate the reader's attention without divulging too much information, laying the groundwork for the essay's core ideas while maintaining an air of mystery. To compose a good introductory paragraph, one must navigate the fine line between being overly verbose and leaving the audience craving more substance. The writer must grapple with the task of introducing the essay's topic in a way that is both engaging and informative, setting the stage for the subsequent arguments without revealing the entire thesis upfront. This balancing act demands a keen understanding of the essay's purpose, target audience, and the overarching theme. Furthermore, the challenge lies in the realization that the introductory paragraph serves as the essay's first impression. It's the literary handshake that either solidifies the reader's interest or prompts them to disengage prematurely. Crafting this critical component requires a meticulous selection of words, a consideration of tone, and an awareness of the desired impact. In essence, writing an essay on the art of constructing a stellar introductory paragraph entails a deep dive into the dynamics of effective communication, psychology, and literary finesse. It involves honing the ability to encapsulate the essence of the entire essay within a few sentences while maintaining an alluring aura of mystery. As such, the difficulty arises not only from the technical aspects of writing but also from the inherent challenge of captivating an audience from the very beginning. In conclusion, the task of elucidating the intricacies of composing an excellent introductory paragraph for an essay proves to be a multifaceted endeavor, demanding a combination of skill, creativity, and an acute understanding of the reader's expectations. Mastering this art is a continuous process that writers embark upon, each attempt offering an opportunity for refinement and growth. • 2. Essay on Reality TV Reality TV Can you believe that reality television has actually been around since 1948? Most of us may have thought that this idea of real television just came about in the last decade but actually it s been around for quite some time. In 1948 Candid Camera was the first reality show to be broadcasted on television. Many considered this to be the granddaddy of the reality TV genre (History of reality TV). This show actually began in radio broadcasting. Allen Funt was the man in charge of this whole new production. He started by simply taping complaints of men in service and broadcasting them over the Armed Forces Radio. This is what later became known as the television show, Candid Camera. Candid Camera was known for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why Do People Watch Reality Television? There has been a huge increase in reality based television over the last few years. From Survivor to Big Brother it seems that we are constantly being bombarded with a new type of reality television program. But why do people watch these shows? What makes these shows so interesting? One theory brought up in an article in Psychology Today by Steven Reiss Ph.D. and James Wiltz, a Ph.D. candidate at Ohio State University, is that, reality television allows Americans to fantasize about gaining status through automatic fame (Reiss and Wiltz, 2001). This is the American dream, acquiring fame with little to no work at all. And what better way to do it than on television? But can reality television actually be called reality? Do people watch because reality television offers an alternative to boring and hackneyed type programs? The fact is that reality TV is just as boring and predictable as the so called unreal programs. Reality TV can, for the most part, hardly be considered real. An article in Rolling Stone confirms this, stating that, The premise is always the same: Put ordinary stiffs on television on TV and they ll do anything, anything, to stay on TV. Didn t we already learn that from Kirstie Alley? (Rolling Stone, 2001). If this were in fact the case, then way would anyone watch what is described as something as horribly predictable as the above? How could such a style of
  • 3. Identity Of The American Identity The American culture is made up of bits and pieces combined into one American Identity. Throughout the process of finding this identity, came with courage, religion, and fear. These three concepts provide compelling examples and experiences that have shaped Americans into the best country there is. Having courage in life is often half the battle. John Smith encounters so many hardships that prove he dares to keep pursuing his goal. Eventually, after defeating and beheading a succession of three Turkish officers in single combat in Rumania, Smith was wounded in battle, taken as a prisoner and sold into slavery to a Turk. Smith was passed from place to place until held prisoner on the Black Sea, he murdered his master and fled back to Rumania via Russia and Poland, returning to England in the winter of 1604 05. (Smith, pp. 82). Most people at this point would typically become slightly discouraged because he has gotten beaten up and is questioning if he can accomplish this or fail. The lesson we should take from Smith in this story is that no matter how hard things get if you have a goal achieve it. There will defiantly be hardships that come your way, but nothing in this life comes easy. For example, the British encounter many hardships such as hunger, sickness, and unfamiliarity. Being thrown into adapting to new situations is often hard. The natives saw many things they were not accustomed to, a few of which include, muskets, clothes, horses, compasses, and

Marshall Professor Kristen Bradley English 1010 9 November 2015 The Future of the NCAA College athletic programs are among the most popular sporting events in America. With this rise in popularity, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its colleges have also seen a rise in revenue in recent years. In 2014, the NCAA made over 900 million dollars in revenue. Some collegiate coaches, such as Kentucky s John Calipari, have yearly salaries in the millions, not counting incentives and endorsement deals. While, clearly, money is being made, NCAA regulations ban collegiate athletes from being paid. Many question this rule and argue that athletes at the college level earn and deserve pay for play. The debate to pay or not to pay college athletes rages on despite the latest court ruling supporting NCAA policies. Because colleges and universities earn such a profit from sporting events, many fans feel it is only fair to distribute some of the wealth to the players. Supporters of paying student athletes feel that these young men and women should be fairly compensated for the time demanded of the athletes and the stress put on the athletes, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Those in favor of paying college athletes contend that athletic and academic work ethic at both high school and collegiate levels will improve, as well as, fiscal responsibility in these young adults. The NCAA argues that paying athletes would negatively affect their
  • 5. The Theory Of Absurdism In The Stranger By Albert Camus By the time his novel The Stranger was published, writer and philosopher Albert Camus had already firmly established his theory of the absurd. Camus portrays this theory in The Stranger through a fictional narrative surrounding a young man s life and murder trial. Although his philosophy has its skeptics, an analysis of Camus background and historical context reveals why his ideologies hold true in not only the ways people live, but how society as a whole functions. To begin, what exactly is absurdism? Two basic principles form the foundation of this theory: the first is that life is meaningless, and the second is that there is no rational order in the universe (Aronson). The theory of the absurd asserts that humans seek to understand their life s purpose, but since life has no meaning, they must learn to endure this irresolvable emptiness. Absurdism is often confused with another concept known as existentialism, which includes the idea of an absurd world within its own definition. However, rather than believing that people s lives are inherently meaningless, existentialists presume that life is only meaningless if an individual does not carry himself with what is called authenticity, the quality of living one s life according to one s own reasons and motives (Crowell). It can be difficult to understand why Camus would develop such a depressive ideology if one does not take in the historical context of the theory s founding. Around the time period Camus was

I Am Legend Research Paper I Am Legend vs The Land of the Dead: The Evolution of the Zombie Subgenre When examining the horror film subgenre of zombies, it is imperative to look at the evolution of the creatures, and determine why the newer films are typically superior to their older counterparts. Directors tend to adapt zombie films in order to fit the fears and the experience of a modern audience, which is why the films continue to improve. This is obvious even in the short time span of about three years. The filmI am Legend, which was released late in 2007, and was directed by Francis Lawrence. The only companionship that Neville is able to find is in his dog, Sam. Despite his isolation, Neville remains determined, believing that he can still fix this and that he will light up the darkness (I Am Legend). The most fascinating theme in this film is also the most subtle. I am Legend contains a religious undertone, which many of the viewers will not notice the first time that they watch the film. Neville is portrayed as the resurrection of Christ, as he sacrifices his life to the discovery of the vaccine, and the welfare of humanity. Butterflies, which symbolize the resurrection of Christ, are also seen several times in this film, which only adds to the religious theme. Neville s daughter is shown making a butterfly for her father before she and her mother attempt to flee the city. Also, there is a butterfly tattoo on the woman that Neville sacrifices his life for, by hiding her in a shaft while he confronts the zombies. Overall, I am Legend has a wider variety of themes than Land Of the Dead, and therefore is more enjoyable to watch, as one needs to pay close attention to truly understand the entire

The Southern Stereotype Essay Long Live Southern Stereotypes Ever since Scarlett O Hara struggled to find love and Andy Taylor was elected Mayberry s Sheriff, filmmakers and television producers have yet to lose any fondness for stereotyping the southern culture. There are many who despise any form of labeling or stereotyping within the media, fearing false characterizations or inaccurate portrayals of southern customs, traditions, and people. These are pointed descriptions, but they are true and the American culture loves (and loves to hate) the southern stereotype and it is here to stay. Now what about those who may have that southern stereotypical drawl? Southern accents do not make one stupid; being stupid does. Southerners should be proud of the southern accent. However, the media has managed to cause dismay among many southerners who possess the engaging and attractive drawl. Should a visitor traveling to North Dakota, view a Fargo native as stupid or ignorant because of the distinct accent heard there? Should a North Dakota resident ridicule a person from the Bronx because of the peculiar accent heard there? Somehow people are ashamed of their unique speech patterns rather than being proud of a colloquial accent. The southern stereotype will be here for a long time to come, so love it and embrace it. According to Jack G. In every state, eighteen year olds are legally permitted to drive, live as they choose, and work where they choose. Eighteen year olds pay taxes as other adults do, are subject to all criminal and civil laws, and are punished, jailed and even executed for crimes they might commit against such laws. Denying an 18 year old the privilege of having a beer while applauding that same 18 year old s participation in potentially mortal combat in an Afghanistan cave as an active duty soldier is an irony worth study. This unfair issue deserves national attention. Because Congress cannot effectively pass a law that establishes a secure family life for all Americans, it can at least right a wrong by repealing the 21 year old restriction. Passage of a national 18 year old drinking age law brings about essential fairness, finally permitting full adult rights to those now considered adults in every other way possible. 2) Legislative History of this Issue There have been numerous related bills in Congress covering the issue of underage drinking in the United States. The first of these were a series of prohibition bills in the 1850 s, followed by the national prohibition bills in the 1920 s, then several bills in the recent decades, a few of which are covered below. The main issue in each of these bills involved limiting of alcohol altogether, though each also included issues dealing with establishment of a legal age at which alcohol could be or was consumed. • 10. The Gulf Of Mexico Dead Zone The main problem this paper intends to discuss regards the Gulf of Mexico dead zone. This dead zone, which for the most part encompasses the water off the coast of Louisiana, becomes depleted in dissolved oxygen. The dead zone is an outcome of nutrient runoff into the Gulf from urban areas, wastewater treatment plants, and from atmospheric deposition, however, the majority comes from fertilizers used in agriculture around the Mississippi River Basin. The increase in nutrients has been affecting the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem by forming difficult conditions in which organisms live. Another consequence that is directly related to the ecosystem damage is the effect on the fishing economy in in the region. In the paper I will address the questions, how has the dead zonespecifically caused damage to the ecosystem of the Gulf of Mexico and how has that damage affected the economic productivity of the fisheries? Furthermore, what policy solutions exist to solve the dead zone problem? Dead zones develop due to excess nutrients getting into water causing eutrophication, which means over enrichment. River runoff deposits these nutrients, which come from upstream, a large amount from agriculture of the Midwest. Nitrogenand phosphorus, the primary excess nutrients, are limiting nutrients to primary producers, such as phytoplankton, that live in the surface oceans. Since those elements are limiting nutrients, an elevated influx of them will cause an explosion of productivity called an

Idealistic realism was showed through the paintings in this time. Idealistic realism was a way of painting people as real as possible, to how they would look like in life. Michelangelo demonstrated this technique through his statue, The David. The Renaissance also focused on what is now called the ideal renaissance man , which was an athletic looking, handsome, and intelligent man. During this time, the Caravel was invented, which was a large boat used mostly for exploration. This was a new way to spread the ideas and also expand territory. These were the same boats that Columbus used to found North America. Another key event during this time was the Spanish Inquisition. The quote is after Elie and his father ran more than 20 kilometers from Auschwitz to an abandoned village. Being hungry, thirsty, and especially exhausted would be the only things a person would think if they had done the march while hungry and thirsty. But Elie comes said that quote to prove the strength of the bond between him and his father. Another time in which the prisoners marched was running to Gleiwitz. They stayed there for three days with no food or water, the prisoners were moved into roofless cattle cars, almost 100 people in a car. The prisoners were handed the usual ration before getting on the train and ate snow in order to quench their thirst. Many of the prisoners are all in a condition not fit enough to make a march, but there was something pushing those people to keep on surviving. How Does Shakespeare Use Character Foils In Hamlet Character Foils of Hamlet Character foils are important to any story or play as they compare and contrast character traits as the story unfolds. The use of character foils allows the audience to understand a characters way of thought and the actions that they take. Character foils show the moral behaviour and can help the audience see contradictory factors that help advance the plot. Although characters may seem similar, the use of character foils can show their differences. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, the use of character foils proves Fortinbras is a stronger political leader over Hamlet, the contrasting view of Laertes as a son in comparison to Hamlet and Horatio being thought of as the better man in contradiction to Hamlet. Fortinbras is a stronger political leader then Hamlet, and his actions to avenge his father s death show Hamlets cowardly behaviour. Paul Modrich And The Dna Mismatch Repair System Essay Claire Wisener Paul Modrich and the DNA Mismatch Repair System On December 10, 2015, three profound individuals received the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work on DNA repair systems. Paul Modrich, Thomas Lindahl, and Aziz Sancar studied how the cell repairs and protects the information held in its DNA ; specifically, Paul Modrich focused on DNA mismatch repair. Since DNA constantly replicates, damage and incorrect pairings are expected, but enzymes watch over DNA as it replicates and repair any errors that occur. In the mismatch repair system, enzymes find the mismatch in the copy of DNA, cut the incorrect section out, and replace it with the correct sequence. Paul Modrich s study of the mismatch repair system has provided the medical field with important information regarding cancer growth and the possibility of a cure. Paul Modrich was born June 13, 1946. Growing up in the small town of Raton in northern New Mexico caused Modrich to have an interest in science since childhood (HHMI). The large amount of biodiversity surrounding him sparked his interest in biology and DNA, and his father, the biology teacher at the local high school, encouraged Modrich to pursue his interests in DNA. After graduating from Raton High School, Modrich went on to receive his bachelor s degree in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968 and later went to Stanford University to get his PhD in biochemistry in 1973 (Duke University School of Medicine). Their vision, mission, behavior as a company, beliefs, and convictions all stem from their ethics. Not all companies have this foundation. To some, it is not believed to be essential for success. Ethics is important in business because our day to day life involves these businesses. The places we go to buy clothes, food, cars, computers, and services are all different kinds of businesses that we support financially. How many of the businesses around us have a strong foundation of ethics? How do we know that these companies don t have workers working excruciating hours behind the scenes to produce the things that are seen on the shelves? How do we know that they are treating their workers with kindness and respect, as well as customers? Business ethicsare important for not only the workers of those companies, but for their consumers. As a result, the consumer returns, bringing with them more consumers, resulting in more profit for the business and a healthy work environment for its workers. • 33. Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates 1.Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides important in nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found? There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101) There are three types of disaccharides as well; Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are compounds of the monosaccharide groups. Maltose consists of 2 glucose atoms; this is created when starches break down. Sucrose consists of one glucose and one fructose atom and is the sweetest of the
