Essay On Baseball Failure
I remember the struggles I went through at the beginning of the season. I only had 4 hits in 10
games. I worked on my leg lift, my load, everything I could think of until something worked.
Then, something clicked. I was reading a book on common problems hitters have and I realized I
wasn t seeing the ball. So, I went to the cage and just stood there for hours upon hours, observing
baseballs go by, but not hitting them. Then, out of nowhere, I got two hits.
All those hours of labor in the cage paid off. I started to hit again. Since then, I have collected a
.435 average. Which brings me to this moment. The moment that our whole team will hate me if I
fail. But I will not fail. All of my hard work will not go to waste.
Our season ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pitcher tries to put me out of his mind, but he can t because I m 60 feet away. He may have
the mound to his advantage, but nothing will stop me from achieving this goal. I assess the
field. There are runners on all the bases, the outfielders are playing back to prevent any extra
base hits, and we re down by 2 runs. I smooth out the dirt where my foot land, I make it smooth
and the perfect landing spot for my foot, and step into the box. Everything must be perfect. I take
a deep breath. I must stay calm. In...out. I sway my bat towards him and back into my pre pitch
position. My hands are relaxed but ready to unleash the violence of a baseball swing. So many
things go through my head. Remember to load, create power, keep calm, do this, do that. Let s
go Evan! My mother s voice brings me back to Earth. I must stay focused. The pitcher acquires
the sign from the catcher and starts into his wind up. The pitcher steps to the side. The crowd
becomes silent. The pitcher lifts his leg. Wait...didn t I face this guy before? That s right. In the
beginning of the season, I struck out against him when he threw 3 straight fastballs. He already
threw 2 fastballs. Would he do the same? I hope so, because it s the only chance I

Blood Spatter Analysis In Criminal Justice
In my essay, I m going to look into how blood spatter analysis is used in processing a crime scene
and how useful it is in finding and convicting a suspect. I will look into how important blood
spatter analysis is and what it can show within a crime scene. I believe that first I should give a
clear definition of blood spatter analysis. It is the examination of shapes, distribution patterns of
bloodstains in order to show an interpretation of the physical events that created them. First I m
going to look at how blood spatter analysis is used in processing a crime scene. There are many
different points to blood spatter analysis such as; The interpretation of blood patterns found on
items of clothing, this interpretation can help determine things like; the position of the victim, so

by studying the crime scene photos and also the angle of the wound that the man did commit

However it should be taken into account that this was the findings of a few analysts and when it

Improper Pain Case Study Nursing
Pain
1.Asian cultures typically deal with pain differently than white, Anglo Saxon cultures. The Asian
culture is usually described as apathetic or stoic. They tend to decline pain medications or request
very little. Therefore Mrs. Wong who had a total hip replacement is experiencing the greater amount
of pain. Although, she is only taking over the counter Motrin and scaling her pain a 3 out of 10;
she has undoubtedly learned to keep her feelings to herself (D Amico Barbarito, 2016, Chapter 11).
2.First and foremost, pain is subjective, or whatever the patient says it is. It is their perception, and

Pain is subjective. Its control should be a multifaceted approach. Pain medication can be used in
combination with complementary and alternative methods. One complementary or alternative
approach is the distraction technique. Distraction is focusing one s thoughts away from pain. It
does not take the pain away, it simply changes the focus to another topic or object. The focus can
be as simple as an inanimate object, music, games, or television shows. The goal is to become so
engrossed in that activity or concentrated on that object that the pain is in the background as
opposed to the forefront of one s thoughts. It is best to practice this technique when pain is not at
its height. This will allow proper mastering of the technique prior to pain escalation ( Segment 4:

Alexander The Great Of The Empire
In the Late 4th century, BC Alexander the great was a very popular and was a great king to
everyone. He was one of the best kings ancient Greece had. His mindset and goal after his dad
died was to take over the Persian empire because this is what his dad wanted to do, he moray
thought that this is what he should do to make his dad proud. This all started at the age of 20.
Alongside Alexander the Great. The Roman empiretook a lot longer to conquer due to its size. The
Persian empire was taken over a lot faster. Alexander ran his empire by him self and gained people
as he went along.
Speaking more in depth about the rise of the Macedonian empire, this was the top provider for
one and only one reason and that was because of his dad Phillip the 2nd Alexander s dad. He had
done a lot to take over the empire however he didn t quite make it or follow through with what he
needed to do, that s why alexander did such a good job. Once Alexander concurred the empire he
was knows for being the best man and god to Macedonia. Martin says in several lighting fast
campaigns, he subdued Macedonia s traditional enemies to west and north (Ancient Greece 243).
This explains that everything was happening at once and there wasn t much time in between
concurring, the rise of the empire went up substantially fast.
Some of the different battles and conflicts he faced are all similar however different in their own

Acquisition Process Of The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected...
The military did not deploy the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle using a rapid
acquisition process which delayed fielding of MRAPs and should not be repeated for critical
needs. Three primary processes drive the current Department of Defense (DoD) Major Defense
Acquisition Programs. They are requirements, acquisition, and funding. The requirements approval
process within the existing Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) was
the greatest factor in the MRAP delay. The MRAP is a V shaped hull vehicle designed early
1960s with additional armor to protect against surface mines and explosives. The elevated chassis

There is less time to validate the requirement and determine if there are better alternatives to
achieve the same capability. The current JCIDS process focuses typically on future requirements so
rapid acquisition programs are disruptive of future acquisition programs. Current joint urgent
operational needs require separate approval, acquisition, and funding processes and funding is
limited and restricted for rapid acquisition programs. Between the time the military conducted initial
MRAP tests and the initial approval in 2006, the military was transitioning away from the original
Requirements Generation System (RGS) to the current JCIDS. Requirements from the field
through each service branch drove the RGS process resulting in standalone solutions to specific
threats often not considering non material alternatives. JCIDS provides systematic, integrated and
interoperable material and non material solutions to capability needs. JCIDS determines
requirements from the top and develops joint solutions with long term sustainment plans. The
JROC is the final approving authority within JCIDS before passing the requirement to the
acquisition process. During this transition the JROC membership remained unchanged, but they did
change from last to first approving authority in the major defense acquisition program process. This

Kristallnacht Analysis
After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an
economic crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need,
the German people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While
the Germans simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given
much more than they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the
citizenry to his promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions
of deaths across Europe, and a war that changed the world.
Although the violence on Kristallnacht is viewed as the the spark that led to the flames of the

However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people
were living off of bread and water. The FГјhrer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation
and used it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a
cult of personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph
Stalin Russia and Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from
1938 depicts the different Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including
Jews, homosexuals, immigrants, political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took
advantage of symbolism, and in this case used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a
social stigma around those who wore the stars and triangles. He further used symbolism in
establishing unity among the German population and solidifying his cult following, by making
forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in
Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi salute (Doc 6). With a hand
gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words Heil Hitler! . In
addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of Propaganda to
build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler

Racial Slurs, Words of Hate
Words of Hate Sticks and stones may brake my bones, but words will never hurt me , goes one
old playground rhyme. We are usually taught to ignore a person who uses foul language, but
everyone knows that words can really hurt a person. When someone uses hateful words against
us, it can hurt just as much as a slap or a punch. When people start to use obscenities with ethnic
or racial slurs, it can push some sensitive buttons. Racial slurs used in a joking manner leads to
others using it in a condescending manner, which ultimately leads to violence and feelings of
hatred. From my experience, racial slurs can cause the most extreme negative reactions in people.

One of the students thought of that as unfair and whispered to himself dumb nigger . I
remember how awful it made me feel, and because it was a small school of about 25 students per
grade, I was the only one of color in mine, which made me feel like I did not belong because I
was different. I sometimes look back and think, how could a child in the fifth grade use such
negative words? I then realize they learn to use it that way from all different types of sources
such as the media, friends and family, and so on. Naylor claims, If the word was to disappear
totally from the mouths of even the most liberal of white society, no one in that room was naГЇve
enough to believe it would disappear from white minds. That is true for our generation, but if we
can stop contaminating the minds of our children to come, the idea of using all types of racial slurs
in a negative connotation can be eliminated. I often find amongst people of the same race use these
racial slurs towards each other. They may justify them by thinking they are just joking around,
not realizing they are saying words giving the meaning of racial prejudice, ignorance, or lack of
understanding. For example, most African Americans I know call each other Nigga almost every
time they speak to, or about someone. Racial slurs are extreme hate words, but to some, it is
considered an endearment. As Naylor explains, When used with a possessive adjective by a woman

How creativity has been applied to a business idea or problem
To make a business grow and achieve productive and efficient results you need to invoke creativity
which has always been an essential business skill. Since long time creativity has been applied to a
business world as companies seek to use it in all parts of the organization to make it gain more

Companies have started to use personality tests in the past five years so that they can find a
potential employee s strengths and weaknesses. If questions and answers are quite accurate and test
is done properly it can help an employer to find more about person s advantages and disadvantages.
It is very important to know because one of the most important points is that most of personality
tests help to recognize unqualified candidates. Although experts warn that many personality
assessments don t deliver what they promise, legitimate scientifically validated tests are helping
employers evaluate job candidates to select those best suited for particular positions. Other tests are
designed to measure intelligence, honesty, management aptitude and other qualities.
Napoleon Hill stated ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes. When you have a great business
idea it is not enough just have it somewhere in your brain, the second thing to do is to realize it in
other words it is called idea feasibility. Same as this American author stated by having a
successful idea you can open doors to new opportunities and attract fortune. The idea is like a new
product which can be applied to a new business. The more successful the product is the better

When Death Dies Where Does Death Go
When death dies where does death go.
Good morning fellow poetry lovers I am Julian Nylen and I flattered to have this opportunity to
share my iinterpitation of poetry. today I will be analaysing how the famous metaphysical poet,
john donne has used poetic techniques and devices to develop multiple themes for his poem, death
be not proud. The themes I believe he has developed are; That death should not be proud, Death is
a transitional stage, and the belief that the eternal kingdom lies beyond
As I said John Donne is a metaphysical poet and he is often regarded to be the leading poet of this
highly intelluctal form of poetry. Metaphysical poetry focuses on; love, life and existence. It uses

It is vital to note how in contradistinction with the knowledge of Death as being a non presence, as
the blackhole in Christian philosophy, Donne infuses inevitability into his imagining of Death as
undertaking the same transcendence at its own passing. Death, by dint of this representation thusly,
is overcome at Fate s hands as the diminishing subject achieves greatness into paradise, in the
midst of God s all powerful radiance, which is sustained in time. The downfall of Death in the
greater scheme of things, is Death itself, and this paradoxical irony is displayed in shining splendor
all throughout the poem.
The very initial lines set the themes for the rest of the poem and solidify Donnes faith. Death,
although portrayed to be an despotic ruler, and accepted as being able to exert a genuine impact
on the course of life, is poor enough to have to depend on the collection of earthly souls for its
nourishment . Death becomes secularized, removed of its secrets, its absolute command, and
exposed to the snarl and cringe of human flaws and unsuccessful desires. The reduction of Death
accompanies a firm degree of sarcastic contempt implicit in the lines: Die not, poore Death, nor yet
canst thou kill me.
The succeeding transmutation of Death incorporates weakening the mystery of its supposed
powers, and lessening it to a source of uncircumscribed pleasures instead of fear. Rest and sleep are

African Americans Attitudes Towards Police Essay
African Americans Attitudes towards Police
The George Washington University
Abstract
Past experiences have shown that African Americans tend to have a more hostile relationship with
police officers than other races. Research from multiple scholars confirms that there is in fact a
correlation between a person s race and the attitude they have towards officers. This experiment
aims to verify that race is responsible for this difference in attitude. A survey containing multiple
demographic questions and inquiries about attitudes and reactions to police officers was distributed

By using data from the BJS Police Public Contact Survey, the researchers found that officer race
is an important factor in how Blacks and Latinos recognize officers (Cochran Warren, 2012).
They were more likely to trust minority police than white ones. Christopher Huggins looked into
citizen reports of police behavior during traffic stops in an effort to understand how officer and
citizen race can influence reports of impropriety. Through analyzing 6,301 citizen reports of
traffic encounters with police researchers discovered that African Americans are less likely than
whites to report proper police behavior when they encounter officers of any race (Huggins,
2012). Han Toch s book, Volatile Scenarios in the Ghetto (2012), discusses the findings of the
Kerner Commission, an 11 member committee made to investigate the causes of race riots in the
1960s, and what exactly these findings convey. According to Toch s book, the Kerner
Commission found that race riots took place in areas where a large number of police officers had
contact with the public (2012). The Commission mentioned that the targeting of blacks,
particularly black men, sparked resistance and hostility towards the officers (Toch, 2012). The
over aggression of some officers also led to a widespread distrust of police by the African
American community, which was a building block in a lot of race riots. In general the combination
of targeting and unnecessary

Describe The Key Features Of Popular Culture In The 1960s
Popular Culture in Britain at the Beginning of the 1960s
In this essay I will describe the key features of popular culture in Britain at the beginning of the
1960s. In the late 40 50s, life was drab, uniform and restrained. People generally had a low
standard of living as a result of the Second World War. This was formally known as austerity. There
were also people during this time period who were known as angry young men . These people
complained about society, without having any concrete suggestions on how things should be
improved. Popular culture is a rather broad term, but it generally meant the changes that were
associated with the 60s. This era is famously known as Sex, Drugs Rock n ... Show more content on

Something society soon considered important was the Pill, which allowed women more sexual
freedom. Another thing that gave women independence was the legalisation of abortions.
Teenagers in the 1950s 1960s had a disposable income, most of it spent on entertainment. This saw
many young people dressing up on a Friday night coming home legless the following morning, as
illustrated in the film Saturday Night, Sunday Morning .
A popular pop icon was the famous Elvis Presley who most teenagers looked up to.
This resulted in a lot of people gradually being influenced by the USA i.e. sitcoms and music.
An angry young man was generally a person that was discontent with society, without necessarily
having any concrete ideas about how things should be improved.
In the late 1950 s and early Sixties America dominated the music industry; the British music scene,
while established (Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele, etc.), tended to imitate American trends and styles.
In the mid fifties a breakthrough in music technology (the seven inch single) exposed a higher
multitude of people to the musical culture due to its affordability, and versatility to requirements. If
you could not afford a seven inch single then establishments often sold them second hand after they
had been played on a jukebox system. The music industry s expansion into the visual entertainment
sector introduced an

Evil Dead Reflection
One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown CafГ©) to watch
Evil Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment
and Sweat Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a
program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the
production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was
Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who ,
which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class
we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that
description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is about four college students who go on a trip
for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods. There they find a book that helps them
release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing
one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared
to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. To me, the play
seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil. Perseverance to survive from the
evil being who wanted to kill all of them. One of the characters cut his arm off in order to not
allow the evil spirit to take control over him. To me, the purpose of the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mercy For Leopold And Loeb
Mercy for Leopold and Loeb: A Rhetorical Analysis
Clarence Darrow was a corporate lawyer who defended several high profile cases. One of his
biggest was the Leopold and Loeb murder trial. In this case Darrow defended two young men,
Nathan Leopold Jr. and Richard Loeb, (commonly referred to as Leopold and Loeb) who confessed
to murdering Bobby Franks. The men believed their high intellects afforded them the ability to
commit what is commonly referred to as the perfect crime, and some speculated that it was a thrill
kill. Loeb confessed to the crime and Leopold soon followed. Due to these circumstances, Darrow
s defense was based primarily to mitigate the punishment from Capital by way of hanging, to
indefinite imprisonment. In the closing arguments, his use of ethos and pathos was strong and
obvious. Pathos was mixed with recent history (it is assumed by this author that he is referring to
World War I, as he spoke of Europe) and the use of ethos was used several times with references to
the American Civil War and how crime rates skyrocketed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

public, by way of press. Lawyers are showman and salesman. They must present and sell the
concept that the client is guilty or innocent. In the argument, he pointed out concepts of what war

Three stages are faced by most school aged children. Stage three, initiative vs. guilt, is for
preschoolers. If they are given freedom to imagine, be responsible, take decisions, to plan, then
tendency toward initiative will be encouraged. However, if children are always restricted and
not shown any appreciation for their ideas or decisions, they will feel guilty about acting on
their own. The fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, is for students of elementary and middle
school. Children are encouraged to do things well and finish tasks. They are praised for their
achievements and they develop self confidence and industry. But, children who fail to achieve or
who are constantly criticized will be left with the feeling of inferiority. Identity vs. role
confusion is the fifth stage faced by adolescence, from 12 18 years. In this stage, adolescents seek
their true selves and identity through exploration of different behaviors, values, and beliefs. If
adolescent succeeds, identity develops and if they don t, it results into role confusion. When an
adolescent is challenged by role confusion, Erikson said, that adolescent is suffering from an
identity crisis. Understanding sense of self is important in this stage of the theory in order to find
success in next stages. If an adolescent gets stuck at this stage, he or she will be unable to

Cyber Bullying Is A New Form Of Bullying
Since its introduction in the early 2000 s, social media has introduced a whole new world for
socialization and sharing. The presence of social media in our lives allows for everyone to
connect through the use of websites and apps from almost anywhere that the Internet is available.
This includes popular sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and even Snapchat.
With the use of these applications comes many benefits but also great risks for many of the
adolescents and young adults that make up a majority of these website users. These risks come in
the form of cyber bullyingand targets a generation that is on average aged 12 18 years old and who
uses the internet about 13.3 hours a week (Kowalski 2008: 4).
Description of the problem
Cyber bullying is a new form of bullying in which technology is used as a tool to bully someone
from a device, most commonly via social media. Over the past ten years it has grown to be the
center of media attention as more and more children are falling victim to this cyber assault. The
traditional form of face to face bullying is now being replaced with the use of cellphones as the
tool for name calling, teasing, and intimidation. This could be anything from mean comments on a
photo to websites being created solely for the purpose of making fun of an individual. While it
occurs less often than traditional bullying, up to 70% of students in the United States have reported
experiencing cyber bullying (Mark 2011: 93).

some dutch words in his poem, like strand (now: beach). Here we have somebody who writes the
name of the person he loves on the beach, because he wants the world to know he s in love. It s
not clever because when the tide comes, the waves will wash it away. In poetry they use
metaphor. An example : you are like a red rose , a red rose is a metaphor for beauty. Line 1 2:
One day I wrote her name upon the strand, but came the waves and washed it away. The speaker
and his love are at the beach (strand) and the speaker is in a romantic mood, because he writes her
name in the sand. The waves wash the name away. Line 3: Again I... Show more content on

She is more beautiful and more temperate than a summerВґs day. Line 3: Rough winds do shake the
darling buds of May, The darling buds symbolize the beginning of his love for her. The buds still
have to develop into beautiful flowers, just like their love. ItВґs the beginning of summer, her
beauty and his love. The rough winds symbolize the rough start of their love. Line 4: And
summerВґs lease hath all too short a date: He says summer is far too short, because in summer the
flowers will bloom. If he compares her to a flower sheВґll bloom in summer and die after summer,
as will her love. It doesnВґt last long enough for him. His love for her will continue and he
doesnВґt want her to go. Line 5: Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines, The eye of heaven is
the sun, which sometimes is too hot. Summer isnВґt steady like her art, like she is. Summer
changes. the eye of heaven could also stand for GodВґs eye which brings sunshine on earth. He
watches over everybody, like the sunshine shines on everybody. With this metaphor he involves his
religion in the poem. Line 6: And often is his gold complexion dimmed: The sun sometimes
disappears behind the clouds, his gold complexion is dimmed by the clouds. His sunbeams arenВґt

The Australian Rugby Union Association
All policies by any sporting body are put into place to ensure the safety of players and fair play in
the game. The Australian Rugby Union Association (ARUA) have developed policies that provide
players and officials with guidelines that protect them from unsafe behaviour and strengthen the
positive image of rugby union. These policies consist of a code of conduct that includes expectations
of behaviour, anti doping, medical policies including concussionguidelines, sport supplement
policies, illicit drug use, work health and safety and game regulations. All laws of the game allow
players of all physiques, skill levels, genders and ages the opportunity to participate in rugby in an

The medical policy ensures all players are treated with equal respect when it comes to personal
health conditions, making each player confident enough to play rugby well equipped to handle their
condition without the need to take excessive drugs which may cause extra harm.
Work health and safety regulations cover many problems that often arise on the field as a result
of injuries. These include direct injuries that may result in excessive bleeding. In this case, the
no blood policy is followed to ensure the injured player is safely, effectively and accurately
treated and other players or trainers are not at risk of contamination. A concussion guideline is
pertained that are set to explain what concussion is, how to prevent it in rugby, and how to treat
it, thus ensuring players are not at a high risk of such an injury whilst playing. The concussion
guideline states that any player with a suspected concussion must be removed from training or the
game and seek medical assistance, to reduce risk of serious brain damage. The medical policies
explain many protocols for injuries both on and off the field to allow players the safety and
confidence in playing, knowing

Consequences of Stress 5 Fear and Measurement of Fear of Humans 6 Effects of human handling
on animals 7 References 10 Introduction Animal behavior and welfare is very complex and not
easy to measure. There are many contingencies that make measuring animal welfare difficult. First,
the animals cannot verbally explain to humans what they would like. Second, each animal could
have its own preferences concerning animal welfare. Third, there may be a limitation in our total
knowledge of animal cognition, meaning that currently many scientists believe that animals have a
very basic repertoire of feelings or emotions. Perhaps in the future, scientists will discover that
animals are capable of experiencing or demonstrating more emotions than currently known. If this
were to happen, the science of animal welfare could change dramatically (Barnett and Hemsworth,
2003). The current essay is a report on animal behavior. For the purpose of this assignment the
author observed pigs in the neighborhood and for two days one hour in each day and had
discussion with the supervisor. The assignment focuses on the element of fear and stress in pigs
and how it impacts them. Stress in Animal Moberg (1985) noted that the animal has biological and
physiological reactions to stress. When there is an external threat to the animal, the central nervous
system (CNS) assesses the challenge

How Shakespeare Changed Over Time
Why did people centuries ago use thee and thou and ye when the word you works for all? Why
did people say, let us go presently (Shakespeare) and mean let us go immediately? Because the
English language changes, like every other living language. Words are always changing, making it
quite interesting, and a bit confusing, to read books written a long time ago. Reading Shakespeare s
plays can make someone aware of this change. Due to these changes in English since Shakespeare s
time, reading it today occasionally causes confusion, mainly because of words that have changed
meaning over the centuries, archaic language, and stories or sayings no longer in use today. Any
living language will have words that change meaning over time, and proving this is not too difficult.
In Elizabethan English, fantastical meant hideous or unusual (Shakespeare pg. 41), and nice meant
unintelligent (Smith). These may seem quite unusual, but sometimes an answer can be found to
how the word changed. Fathom used to mean to encircle one s arms (Smith). From that, a fathom
became a measurement the length of someone s arm used for measuring the depth of a lake or sea.
After years, fathom also came to mean understanding something deeply. Words can alter greatly
over time!... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, these words do not all have the same meaning. Ye was plural of you, and thee and
thou people used as the singular and plural of you for talking to those closer to you, or for
speaking without as much respect. You was used while talking to the elderly or those more
important (King). Still today, innumerable languages around the word use different words for you
to show respect or while talking to a friend. This shows yet another way the English language has

The PMBOK Guide (Project Management Institute, 2008) states that the statement of work
(SOW) should be written to be complete, clear and concise; it should include details of any
services to be required as well as specific content and format requirements for the procurement. (p.
326) While this is meant to provide for the best vendor selection, at times my clients have not
considered the SOW to be as important as it is and not having a properly defined SOW has
hindered selection of the most effective vendor. Contracting officers can only go off what has been
given to them and if the SOW is not clear, or is missing, the vendor selected through the evaluation
criteria may not meet actual expectations.
The PMBOK Guide (Project Management Institute, 2008) defines procurement documents as those
documents which are used to gather proposals from potential bidders during the solicitation
process. These can be collected under request for information (RFI), invitation for bid (IB), request
for proposal (RFP), request for quotation (RFQ), invitation for negotiation, tender notice or
invitation for seller s initial response. (p. 326) In my business, we generally use RFPs that follow
very strict government guidance. For example, we have different conference RFP

Water Shortage in Central California
Central Valley Water Shortage
1.Fresno is a city located in central California, also known as San Joaquin Valley Famously
knows for its grape field and green trees. Known for where the immigrants came to work, by
picking grapes making little to know money. Every year I go back to visit my home town about
twice a year, each time we get near the grape vine which is located between Fresno and Las
Angeles. The first thing that is noticed by the eye is the magnificent greenery and farm lands
that can t be passed without notice of its beauty. Every tree was full and rich looking to the roots
and all around the ground would look moist and fully watered, without a doubt these farm lands
where being taken care of. Recently in the past three years of taking the long exhausting drive
from the dry lands of Tucson to the green lands of Fresno hasn t been the same. The green lands
of central valley are not as green as they once were. The grounds look dry and not as moist as
before.

Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer Essays
Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer
A religious experience is a spontaneous or induced mental event over which the
recipient has relatively little control. It is often accompanied with the gaining of
certain knowledge and the experience is always unique. [1] Elton Trueblood s
definition of a religious experience is very broad, including any experience of feelings
of love, power, glory or strength from God. This differs from a simple experience
which can be defined as an event or series of events participated in or lived through,
especially one that makes a powerful impression on the mind and sense. [2]
It is obvious that religious experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people try to describe an experience
of God they tend to make comparisons which raises problems philosophically, and
many argue that the analogies have weaknesses.
The definitions of mystical experience used by researchers and clinicians vary
considerably, ranging from Neumann s (1964) upheaval of the total personality to
Greesley s (1974) spiritual force that seems to lift you out of yourself to
Scharfstein s (1973) everyday mysticism. William James created four
characteristics which he believed will enable people to identify mystical experiences,
a term that is used in a vast variety of contexts. These include ineffability, noetic
quality, transciency and passivity. From James four characteristics, mystical
experiences are concerned with noetic quality and transciency. Noetic quality refers
to knowledge that is gained through intuition and perception however not in the
conventional manner, whilst transciency refers to the duration of the experience; it
appears that most religious experiences last between a few minutes and two hours.
However the effect and the significance are out of proportion to its physical duration.

Morgan s Stand Below the Goldsboro Road
Morgan s famous heroic stand below Goldsboro Road would begin on March 18th. His division
(Second), Fourteenth Army Corps, took the advance for the Left Wing at 5:30 A.M. on
Saturday the eighteenth (Hughes Jr., 17). After Morgan helped federal foragers in his division
fight off small rebel forces near Bushy Swamp, Sherman ordered him to hold his division where
it was. In the early morning of March 19th, Morgan s men would advance along with Sherman
and WilliamCarlin s men. They would soon be told to hold position again as Carlin went to
engage against Confederates. It wouldn t be until the afternoon at three o clock that Morgan
would soon have to help Carlin and Slocum against the Confederates, due to Carlin s inability to
stop them in the skirmishes. After Mitchell had placed his men into the appropriate area,
Morgan s unit would march in. He would send one of his men to send a message to generals in
the battle. First he sent a message to Davis requesting that Vandever s brigade (backed with the
wagons at the rear of the corps) be rushed to him (Hughes Jr, 98). Morgan also sent one to
Benjamin Fearing to ask if he could help General Mitchell by being at his right while having some
of his men attack to help stiffen Vernon s skirmish line (Hughes Jr., 98). Also seeing that there
were no enemy troops on the right side near Goldsboro road, Morgan ordered one of his men to

Figurative Language In James Baldwin s If Beale Street...

been falsely accused of a crime, simply because he does as doesn t conform to the white society
s expectations of him. As Hans F. Hanson says, It takes nothing to join the crowd. It takes
everything to stand alone. By putting Fonny, one of the story s main protagonists, in the position
where he has to defy the expected standards of society, Baldwin is able to achieve his purpose of
creating an honest but brutal story that displays his character s courage to not accept life s
circumstances and join the crowd, and instead carve his own path for his life, which results in
many troubles that Fonny is forced to endure as he gives everything he has... Show more content on

We know from Baldwin s last chapter Zion that over the last nine months, Fonny has been stuck
in jail and his outlook has changed incredibly over that time, as he tells Tish that he s beginning
to see things that he s never seen before, and that he doesn t have any words for those things, and
that he s scared. (Baldwin, 182) Had Baldwin chosen to put the story in Fonny s point of view,
the plot could ve been more dramatic as it focused on how Fonny was changing during his life in
jail, but instead Baldwin put the story in Tish s point of view, which ultimately ended up serving
his purpose of showing the effects the cruel and condoning world had on them, despite the fact
that Tish wasn t the one being convicted of a crime. Placing the story in third person would also
have worked nicely for this story, but in the end it wouldn t have ended up serving Baldwin s
purpose. There are many instances where, had the story been narrated by an unnamed narrator, it
would have lost it s sense of intimacy and therefore wouldn t have been nearly as effective as it
was. Through the duration of Tish s pregnancy, we are able to see the inner workings of Tish s
mind and sense her connection to her baby. So, ultimately, by put the story in Fonny s or third

Analysis Of Google s On Data Exhaust Essay
Data Exhaust Google By utilizing the millions of misspelled words in the billions of searches it
processes every day, Google was able to create it s spell checker for free (something that
Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money to create). Google then created an
ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm displayed the correct word by asking users to click
to confirm on the corrected search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further
by looking at the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the
page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. This allows google to continually
improve their spell check and also makes it easily available for any language that is typed into
their search engine. This data also has additional uses beyond spell check, such as their
autocomplete feature that is available across most of the google ecosystem and the translation
services that they offer9. Facebook Jeff Hammerbacher, a data scientist at facebook, found that
when people saw their friends making posts or sharing content that they were more likely to post
content themselves. Once facebook made this realization, they redesigned their site to make
activities by users friends more prominent in order to create a cycle of new content9. Amazon

Indian Peoples And The Challenge Of Spanish Conquest Summary
Steven J. Stern s text, Peru s Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish Conquest, highlights
from beginning to end Spain s conquest of the Andean people while articulating the
transformation of the relationship between these two peoples. He illustrates how Spain s efforts
toward colonialism of the Andes, transformed the natives from a self sufficient group of people
into an oppressed caste system known as Indians. Additionally, he introduces the idea that the
Spanish needed to break the indigenous and gain their favor in order successfully establish
dominance over them and their land. While arguing this, he offers several facts, which contradict
the black legend associated with the Spanish and their means of conquest. In chapter two of
Stern s text, he discusses the initial phases of the Spanish conquest of the Andean people.
According to the text, in 1532, 168 conquistadores defeated and captured Atahualpa, the Emperor
of the Incas (Stern p 27). It is possible that the Spanish were able to do this because of their
advance weaponry and overall combat skills. This is in addition to the fact that according to class
discussions Atahualpa wanted an audience with the Spanish as a ploy to capture the Spanish. The
Spanish were then able to capture Atahualpa, as they were already in his vicinity. Stern expands
upon the capture of the Incan Emperor saying that the Andean people were in fact impressed with
the Spanish as a result of this as well as their power and good fortune

Analysis Of Aboard The Pequod By Herman Melville
Aboard the Pequod, as the ship is bustling with activity, Melville describes the scene as the crew
performs the grueling task of processing a whale. Large, bubbling try pots of oil blubber fill the
deck of the ship and a heavy smoke blankets the air as harpooners and sailors work regardless of
the conditions. Through this familiar scene, Melville layers the setting and characters to build up a
distinct mood for this passage. Specifically, he pulls dark romanticism into his writing by
paralleling Ahab s monomania and the deterioration of the crew. To establish an ominous
atmosphere and describe the impending doom of the voyage, Herman Melvillecombines many
forms of figurative language like sinister similes and the eerie personification of the Pequod with
suspenseful imagery.
Melville utilizes similes in order to build suspense and emphatically compare evil laughter with
rising flames. The laughter and flames are unpredictable and fill the ship with noise and
unbearable heat, almost engulfing it. In the passage, he compares the two ideas by stating, as their
uncivilized laughter forked upwards out of them, like the flames from the furnace. Melville
connects the menacing behavior of the crew and maniacal laughter to Ahab, as he also exhibits
behavior that is erratic and fills the ship with his plans of revenge. Since he also describes the
laughter as forked out of them, it seems as though the sailors are not willingly laughing, but are
forced in doing so. Ahab undoubtedly

Research Paper On T-Mobile Hacking
Nothing in this world is limitless not even T Mobile s unlimited data plan. On Monday T Mobile
CEO John Legere went on Twitter and announced that the company would be banning 1/100
percent of its users that Legere believes is abusing their unlimited data plans.
THE ABUSERS
Legere said this ban would only affect an extremely small number of T Mobile subscribers, and
that the abuse was mostly coming from users who were taking advantage of the company s
tethering feature. Tethering is a feature that let s people use their phones like hotspots: emitting
data out to other wireless devices like a tablet or a laptop. This let s the abusers essentially have a
free home network so they don t need to pay for additional internet packages through an internet
service provider (ISP). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are hacking the system to swipe high speed tethered data, wrote Legere in a recent blog post
on the subject. These aren t naive amateurs; they are clever hackers who are willfully stealing for
their own selfish gain.
HOW THEY RE PULLING IT OFF
Now, to be upfront, T Mobile gives users a monthly allowance of data that can be tethered. That s
usually around five gigabytes of data, which is plenty for most people. You can get a lot
accomplished on a laptop over the course of a month and never even come near that amount of
data... at least, not until you start streaming media content.
These hackers are using the tethering feature to use up to two terabytes in some cases, which is
well over the allotted amount. Typically, once a user reaches their limit then T Mobile will
throttle their data, which means their download and upload speeds will see a pretty noticeable
decrease. In order to circumvent this, the hackers are using apps that allow them to hide their
usage from T Mobile, so the company never actually sees how much data is being used by the user.

Vehicle Pollution Essay
1.6Vehicular Pollution Problems in India
Vehicles are one of the major sources of air pollution in major cities. The air pollution due to
vehicles can be attributed to following:
a)High vehicle density in Indian urban centres result in air pollution build up near the roadways and
at traffic intersections.
b)Older vehicles are predominant in vehicle vintage. These older vehicles are grossly polluting
though in cities like Delhi grossly polluting vehicles have been phased out.
c)Inadequate inspection and maintenance facilities result in high emission of air pollutants from
vehicles. Emission can be reduced by proper and regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles.
d)There is large number of two stroke two wheelers in most of the cities and these two wheelers are
a significant contributor of air pollution.
e)Adulteration of fuel and fuel products also result in high emissions from vehicles.
f)Improper traffic management system and road conditions also result in build up of air pollutants
near the roadways as the emissions are higher when the vehicle is idling.
g)Absence of effective mass rapid transport system and intra city railway networks has resulted in
people using their own vehicles for commuting to workplace. This has resulted in uncontrolled
growth of vehicles.
h)High population exodus to the urban centres has also resulted in increase in number of vehicles
resulting in high levels of vehicular air pollution.

The Land Registration Act (LRA) 1925 has drawn much flak over the years with regards to one

Essay about The Big Move to College
The Big Move to College
Moving away from home has been one of the biggest challenges that I have had to face so far in
the eighteen years of my life. Moving from my home town to the collge dorm was a difficult
transition that was necessary for growing up both mentally and physically as an individual. The
little more than five hundred miles that separates me from my friends and family has allowed me
to become the person I am today, and the distance allows me to grow and become more familiar
with things that are a whole new experience for me. One of the many new things that I have had to
deal with was making new friends in my environment.
As I drove away from my house on the morning of August 20th 2005, not only was I saying ... Show

Although I hated to see her go, I knew that I would never branch out and meet new people with
my mother present. As we said goodbye, the tears swelled up in her eyes and it seemed like the
harder she tried to prevent the tears from falling; the faster they streamed down her cheek.
Eventually my mom got back into her car and began the long trip home. There I was, alone in the
middle of the street outside of my dorm. I walked back into Cowden, up the flight of stairs and into
my dorm room in a trance.
For the next few days, I was alone in my room until my roommate, Emily, one of my closest
friends from high school arrived. Until Emily arrived, I kept the door to our room shut and
barely went out into the hall. I felt as though I was alone in the world until Emily called my cell
phone and informed me she was here. I ran down and helped her bring all of her belongings up
the stairs and I was relieved that she was here with me. I finally was not alone in this world. We
had been told numerous times that rooming together would be a bad idea because we would
hang out only with each other, and we would not meet anyone new at school. For the first few
days Emily was there, we didn t talk to anyone else and I began to think that the warnings we had
received were going to be true. Everything changed when we left our door open for an hour around
dinnertime.
Two people walked up and down the hall asking everyone if they wanted to go to

When I Have Managed To Make My Wife Summary
The author begins the story with a line that sets the entire story. The first line of the story is, The
truth of the matter is: I have managed to make my wife very, very small. The narrator goes on to
explain it was not intentional and the miniaturization was an accident. The author then has the
narrator give background information and explain the story of what happens to his wife and
himself. The story ends with the extreme measures the miniature wife has taken upon herself to
torture the narrator. The miniature wife sets trip wires throughout the home and sticks tiny spears
in the carpet. The first scenes of the story are about the wife and the miniaturization. The next
scenes following explain how upset the wife is with her current state. She does things to the
narrator that mess with his appearance by dulling his razors and removing the buttons on his
clothes. The narrator keeps issues to himself because he doesn t want to lose his job or there be a
police investigation. The narrator then makes a dollhouse for his wife and does until the end of the
story where she invites her husband to have dinner at home, and when he comes home she is naked

I thought this story was very ambitious. It reminded me of an old movie called Honey I Shrunk
The Kids. The process of making a human the size of a coffee mug is rather far off, I enjoyed
the humor the author added. The things that the wife would do to the husband I felt sorry for him,
but at the same time they were such little things a miniature person would do if they were home
all day and bored. I think the wife did those things to the narrator because she blames him for what
has happened to her. The author on top of the ambitious story then has the wife cheat on her
husband. This twist I was surprised by; I thought there was going to be a happy ending between the
two was they would reconcile and perhaps the husband would shrink himself. I felt the author made
the story grander by adding the twist at the

Why We Study Criminal Justice System?

Reflection About Discipleship Relationship
Throughout the past few months, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to begin discipleship
relationships with two amazing people. To begin with, I had the opportunity to disciple a young
girl who I have known her whole life. Our connection had been previously established, but after
these past few months we ve spent together our relationshiphas strengthened and gained a depth
that I never thought possible. From the beginning, we created a trustworthy environment that
allowed for vulnerability and a deep connection. She felt safe to share with me personal details that
she used to be hesitant to share and our friendship grew.
Beyond discipling someone, I also had the blessing and joy of getting to know my aunt better and
have her disciple me. Much like my relationship with the young girl I was discipling, I have
known her my whole life thus we already had a decent connection, but I wasn t prepared for
development I would experience throughout this relationship. Being as we re family, we easily
connected from the beginning. It was certainly a click relationship . From the first meeting we
had, we were able to be open and honest with each other, and I was able to share with her secrets
and feelings that I never thought I would. We connected so well with each other and, for that, I am
so grateful.
Moving back to the young girl I was discipling, I m extremely thankful for the spiritual connection
that we had. We had grown up in the same church and had a similar family and

English And Social Studies Class
Everyone s eyes were on the whiteboard as my teacher began writing what we all dreaded. The
fourth hour bell had just rung in my 10th grade honors English class, and I was just as nervous as
my classmates as I read out the words on the board. It was time for our In class essay test , which
our teacher announced would be given out randomly this week. The notion of writingessays for the
class never made me worried, but the fact that this one would be written in class and completely
graded on grammar usage concerned me, along with my classmates. My teacher fixed his
glasses and began setting the timer, after handing out the news story that we were tasked to
write about. I took a deep breath and began writing, hoping for the best. A week after that hour of
painstaking writing, I was surprised to find that I got a perfect score. That event first opened my
eyes to the types of classes I shine in. I predominantly succeed in English and social studies class.
I attribute my success to the nature of the classes, my study habits in those classes, my
relationship with teachers and students in the class, and, above all, my family pushing me along
the way. The first factor I noticed that helped me thrive in English and social studies classes is
how they are usually structured. One of the unique characteristics of these classes was that they
were discussion based classes. Along with being able to express your ideas freely, the classes also
give students a chance to reflect on

Astrology Of Alchemy
Originating in ancient Egypt, Alchemy is one of the two oldest sciences that are known in the
world, besides astrology. It can be described as a process in which we shift from our essential state
of unconsciousness, go through plenty alchemical stages portrayed by our most elemental
experiences, to the understanding of full awakening, or enlightenment. Alchemy is a an operation
that goes around from cycle to cycle, repeating over and over again to transform and alter us
through the experiences of our body, soul, and spirit. In alchemical terminology, this is called the
Opus, or Great Work. The larger state of consciousness and our self understanding that results
includes recognition of our connection to the spirit world and consciousness of the relativity... Show

Western Alchemy goes all the way back to the start of the Hellenistic period which lasted between
300 BC 300 AD. One of the earliest, legit alchemists is Zosimos of Panopolis in Egypt, who lived
around the end of the period. Zosimos provided us with one of the first definitions of alchemy as
the study of the composition of waters, movement, growth, embodying and disembodying, drawing
the spirits from the bodies and bonding the spirits within the bodies. (Mendeleyev s Dream the
Quest for Elements). Born in Akhmim,Egypt, Zosimos is one of the 40 authors represented in a
compendium of alchemical texts that were thought to be put together in Constantinople around the
7th or 8th century AD. They were found existing in manuscripts in Venice and Paris. The latest
author, Synesius, lived in Byzantium (constantinople) around the 4th century. The earliest author
assigned is Pseudo Democritus(not to be confused with Democritus the greek philosopher),often
referred to as Bolos of Mendes. Bolos was a hellenized Egyptian who lived in the Nile Delta about

Essay Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello, the main character in the play is married to Desdemona. At the start of the play Othello is
seen as evil and bad by all the other characters and the audience. Brobantio (Desdemona s father),
dislikes Othello very much at the start of the play. This is because Othellomarried Desdemona
without her father s consent and Brobantio thinks Othello has used black magic to win
Desdemona s love. Whereas, this isn t the case, Othello married Desdemona because he loved her
and she loved him. Also, in the time period the play is set, women were never seen as very
important people in society and they were seen as the property of men. Usually their husband ...

In other words, Desdemona loved Othello for the life threatening things he s done and Othello
loved Desdemona for pitying them. This remark clears his name for marrying Desdemona. The
Duke and Brobantio become convinced that Othello loves Desdemona enough, to set Othello
free, without facing any serious charges. We also learn, Othello is called on business to Cyprus
and he has been most hotly called for , in the court case. In other words, Othello has been called
to Cyprus because he is a very important soldier. Othello takes Desdemona to Cyprus with him.
This shows Othello is a kind and honest man because he is kind enough to take his wife with him,
not to leave her behind like many men would have.
On the other hand, however, the audience see that Iago is evil and bad, the first time they meet him,
whereas, all the characters see him as honest and good at the start of the play. Roderigo is easily
tricked into thinking Iago is going to help get him and Desdemona together, (even though
Desdemona is already married), if he keeps paying Iago to help. Iago is just conning Roderigo out
of money; the audience can see that Iago is evil and bad here but the character, Roderigo, doesn t.
The audience soon finds out that, Iago hates Othello because Othello gave Michael Cassio the job
Iago has been wanting for ages, (Othello s second man in command). Iago also tells the audience

The downfall of Death in the greater scheme of things, is Death itself, and this paradoxical irony is displayed in shining splendor all throughout the poem. The very initial lines set the themes for the rest of the poem and solidify Donnes faith. Animal Behavior Animal Behavior Table of Contents Animal Behavior 3 Introduction 3 Stress in Animal 3 Consequences of Stress 5 Fear and Measurement of Fear of Humans 6 Effects of human handling on animals 7 References 10 Introduction Animal behavior and welfare is very complex and not easy to measure. There are many contingencies that make measuring animal welfare difficult. First, the animals cannot verbally explain to humans what they would like. Second, each animal could have its own preferences concerning animal welfare. Third, there may be a limitation in our total knowledge of animal cognition, meaning that currently many scientists believe that animals have a very basic repertoire of feelings or emotions. Perhaps in the future, scientists will discover that animals are capable of experiencing or demonstrating more emotions than currently known. If this were to happen, the science of animal welfare could change dramatically (Barnett and Hemsworth, 2003). The current essay is a report on animal behavior. For the purpose of this assignment the author observed pigs in the neighborhood and for two days one hour in each day and had discussion with the supervisor. The assignment focuses on the element of fear and stress in pigs and how it impacts them. Stress in Animal Moberg (1985) noted that the animal has biological and physiological reactions to stress. • 22. How Shakespeare Changed Over Time Why did people centuries ago use thee and thou and ye when the word you works for all? Why did people say, let us go presently (Shakespeare) and mean let us go immediately? Because the English language changes, like every other living language. Words are always changing, making it quite interesting, and a bit confusing, to read books written a long time ago. Reading Shakespeare s plays can make someone aware of this change. Due to these changes in English since Shakespeare s time, reading it today occasionally causes confusion, mainly because of words that have changed meaning over the centuries, archaic language, and stories or sayings no longer in use today. Any living language will have words that change meaning over time, and proving this is not too difficult. In Elizabethan English, fantastical meant hideous or unusual (Shakespeare pg. 41), and nice meant unintelligent (Smith). These may seem quite unusual, but sometimes an answer can be found to how the word changed. Fathom used to mean to encircle one s arms (Smith). From that, a fathom became a measurement the length of someone s arm used for measuring the depth of a lake or sea. After years, fathom also came to mean understanding something deeply. As Hans F. Hanson says, It takes nothing to join the crowd. It takes everything to stand alone. By putting Fonny, one of the story s main protagonists, in the position where he has to defy the expected standards of society, Baldwin is able to achieve his purpose of creating an honest but brutal story that displays his character s courage to not accept life s circumstances and join the crowd, and instead carve his own path for his life, which results in many troubles that Fonny is forced to endure as he gives everything he has... (Baldwin, 182) Had Baldwin chosen to put the story in Fonny s point of view, the plot could ve been more dramatic as it focused on how Fonny was changing during his life in jail, but instead Baldwin put the story in Tish s point of view, which ultimately ended up serving his purpose of showing the effects the cruel and condoning world had on them, despite the fact that Tish wasn t the one being convicted of a crime. Placing the story in third person would also have worked nicely for this story, but in the end it wouldn t have ended up serving Baldwin s purpose. Google then created an ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm displayed the correct word by asking users to click to confirm on the corrected search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further by looking at the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. Stern s text, Peru s Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish Conquest, highlights from beginning to end Spain s conquest of the Andean people while articulating the transformation of the relationship between these two peoples. He illustrates how Spain s efforts toward colonialism of the Andes, transformed the natives from a self sufficient group of people into an oppressed caste system known as Indians. Additionally, he introduces the idea that the Spanish needed to break the indigenous and gain their favor in order successfully establish dominance over them and their land. While arguing this, he offers several facts, which contradict the black legend associated with the Spanish and their means of conquest. In chapter two of Stern s text, he discusses the initial phases of the Spanish conquest of the Andean people. According to the text, in 1532, 168 conquistadores defeated and captured Atahualpa, the Emperor of the Incas (Stern p 27). It is possible that the Spanish were able to do this because of their advance weaponry and overall combat skills. This is in addition to the fact that according to class discussions Atahualpa wanted an audience with the Spanish as a ploy to capture the Spanish. The Spanish were then able to capture Atahualpa, as they were already in his vicinity. Stern expands upon the capture of the Incan Emperor saying that the Andean people were in fact impressed with the Spanish as a result of this as well as their power and good fortune ... • 35. Analysis Of Aboard The Pequod By Herman Melville Aboard the Pequod, as the ship is bustling with activity, Melville describes the scene as the crew performs the grueling task of processing a whale. Large, bubbling try pots of oil blubber fill the deck of the ship and a heavy smoke blankets the air as harpooners and sailors work regardless of the conditions. Through this familiar scene, Melville layers the setting and characters to build up a distinct mood for this passage. Specifically, he pulls dark romanticism into his writing by paralleling Ahab s monomania and the deterioration of the crew. To establish an ominous atmosphere and describe the impending doom of the voyage, Herman Melvillecombines many forms of figurative language like sinister similes and the eerie personification of the Pequod with suspenseful imagery. Melville utilizes similes in order to build suspense and emphatically compare evil laughter with rising flames. The laughter and flames are unpredictable and fill the ship with noise and unbearable heat, almost engulfing it. In the passage, he compares the two ideas by stating, as their uncivilized laughter forked upwards out of them, like the flames from the furnace. Melville connects the menacing behavior of the crew and maniacal laughter to Ahab, as he also exhibits behavior that is erratic and fills the ship with his plans of revenge. Since he also describes the laughter as forked out of them, it seems as though the sailors are not willingly laughing, but are forced in doing so. Ahab undoubtedly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. When I Have Managed To Make My Wife Summary The author begins the story with a line that sets the entire story. The first line of the story is, The truth of the matter is: I have managed to make my wife very, very small. The narrator goes on to explain it was not intentional and the miniaturization was an accident. The author then has the narrator give background information and explain the story of what happens to his wife and himself. The story ends with the extreme measures the miniature wife has taken upon herself to torture the narrator. The miniature wife sets trip wires throughout the home and sticks tiny spears in the carpet. The first scenes of the story are about the wife and the miniaturization. The next scenes following explain how upset the wife is with her current state. She does things to the narrator that mess with his appearance by dulling his razors and removing the buttons on his clothes. The narrator keeps issues to himself because he doesn t want to lose his job or there be a police investigation. The narrator then makes a dollhouse for his wife and does until the end of the story where she invites her husband to have dinner at home, and when he comes home she is naked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought this story was very ambitious. It reminded me of an old movie called Honey I Shrunk The Kids. The process of making a human the size of a coffee mug is rather far off, I enjoyed the humor the author added. The things that the wife would do to the husband I felt sorry for him, but at the same time they were such little things a miniature person would do if they were home all day and bored. I think the wife did those things to the narrator because she blames him for what has happened to her. The author on top of the ambitious story then has the wife cheat on her husband. This twist I was surprised by; I thought there was going to be a happy ending between the two was they would reconcile and perhaps the husband would shrink himself. I felt the author made the story grander by adding the twist at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fourth hour bell had just rung in my 10th grade honors English class, and I was just as nervous as my classmates as I read out the words on the board. It was time for our In class essay test , which our teacher announced would be given out randomly this week. The notion of writingessays for the class never made me worried, but the fact that this one would be written in class and completely graded on grammar usage concerned me, along with my classmates. My teacher fixed his glasses and began setting the timer, after handing out the news story that we were tasked to write about. I took a deep breath and began writing, hoping for the best. A week after that hour of painstaking writing, I was surprised to find that I got a perfect score. That event first opened my eyes to the types of classes I shine in. I predominantly succeed in English and social studies class. I attribute my success to the nature of the classes, my study habits in those classes, my relationship with teachers and students in the class, and, above all, my family pushing me along the way. One of the unique characteristics of these classes was that they were discussion based classes. Along with being able to express your ideas freely, the classes also give students a chance to reflect on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
