Impact Of Terrorism On The Middle East
HAMAS INTRODUCTION: Terrorism in the Middle East has brought the Israeli Palestinian conflict
to the attention of the world. These terrorist groups use murder, bombs, threats, and other violent acts
to get their way politically. Hamas, the organization that has replaced Fatah as the representative of the
Palestinians, is a leading sponsor of terrorism. Critics say the group is a terrorist organization that
wants nothing but to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth. Supporters say Hamas, which represents the
only organized Palestinian military force, is a coalition of freedom fighters and liberators defending
the Palestinian people.
HAMAS CREATION AND LEADERSHIP: This group was created in 1987 and continues to expand
its power today. Hamas formed in late 1987 at the beginning of the first Palestinian intifada. Hamas
was created by Sheik Ahmad Yasinat, along with Abdel Aziz al Rantissi, and Mohammad Taha in late
80 s at the beginning of the first Palestinian uprising ( Biersteker 2008). Hamas uses paramilitary force
and the violent part of Hamas, stage anti Israeli attacks including improvised explosive device attacks,
and rocket attacks against Israeli targets inside the country of Israel. Its roots are in the Palestinian
branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and it is supported by a robust sociopolitical structure inside the
Palestinian territories. The group s charter calls for establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in place of
Israel and rejects all agreements made

Among The Thugs By William Buford
Analytical Essay of Among the Thugs , William Buford
The book Among the Thugs from 1992 written by William Buford, describes Buford s own
experiences with hooliganism. The text is about the British football culture and the hooligan ism that
follows. Throughout the text, we follow the American Journalist Bill Buford, who is located at a train
station in Cardiff, where he for the first time became acquainted with hooli ganism. Hundreds of
Liverpool supporters robbed the station, terrorized the area and fought with everything and everyone.
His reaction to their loud behavior and performances over whelms him a lot. Later in the text, Bill
meets a united ultra from Manchester United s firm, Mick. After hanging out with him, Bill is
persuaded to join the firm on matchday. This was the beginning of a whole new day for Bill Buford as
a thug and a member of the firm. This analytical essay will be based on comments from Bill Buford
experiences, the structure, language, receiver and the purpose of the text. ... Show more content on

The Messenger by Markus Zusak
THE MESSENGER By Markus Zusak Setting the scene: Ed Kennedy is a 19 year old cab driver with
no real respect for himself. He wishes he could be something greater, but feels there s no way to
accomplish this. He lives with a dog ( The Doorman ) that smells like death in a shack owned by his
boss (CEO of Vacant Taxis ). Ed grew up in a less developed part of town and after graduating from
high school, went straight into the work force, having not applied himself thoroughly enough to get
into university. His mother, Bev, still lives in the house where Ed grew up, and has developed a strong
swearing habit, a bad temper, and a penchant for hating Ed. Ed s father died about six months before
the timeline of the story and was the one who passed on The Doorman to him. When not driving his
cab, Ed spends most of the time playing cards with three close friends of his Audrey, Marv and
Ritchie. Audrey is about the same age as Ed and is also a cab driver. Marv is a stingy mate who owns
a shitty car, and Ritchie is a quiet, lazy person who occasionally makes perfectly timed wise cracks at
Marv. Ed is totally in love with Audrey, but too afraid to tell her so, as she is seeing another colleague
of theirs and doesn t want to ruin their friendship by admitting his feelings to her. Part One: The First
Message The story opens with a bank robbery where Ed, Marv, Audrey and Ritchie just so happen to
be there at the time. Neither Ed nor Marv take the gunman seriously. Ed just

Futility, Spring Offensive And Exposure By Wilfred Owen
Eco critics ask questions such as whether or not Everything is connected to everything else , in order
to explore the realms of human thought. In relation to Wilfred Owen s poems; Futility, Spring
Offensive, and Exposure, this theory that all living things are interconnected is a multifaceted one.
Nature is used heavily as a centralised motif in each of them, albeit in different ways, in order to
represent a range of both internal and external battles Owen s soldiers are forced to undergo during
active service in the war. The soldiers are also depicted to depend on, as well as exploit their rural
surroundings in equal measure, particularly concerning military action. As a concept, ecocriticism is a
contemporary approach and it is therefore highly unlikely that Owen would have intentionally
included such heavily cited links with eco criticism, especially considering that he claimed his subject
to be, war and the pity of war . Owen himself believed that the war he was fighting was needless, and
only caused pain and suffering. His work sheds light on the harsh, brutality of warfare whilst
challenging the patriotic nature of other existing war poems at the time, believing that they did not
truly depict the war he was all too familiar with, true Poets must be Truthful . However, applying
Owen s work through an ecological perspective is not a completely futile, as Owen s depth of
understanding can provide us with insight into the effect humans, particularly soldiers, had on their
biosphere during this period in history and vice versa; this is, The fundamental premise that human
culture is connected to the physical world, affecting it and affected by it. It is these connections with
the natural world that highlight both Owen s love of the natural world, influenced by the likes of
Romanticist poet John Keats, and his sense of anguish towards humanity and their distorted concept of
war.
The obscure relationship between man and environment is addressed abundantly throughout each of
the throughout the three poems, as it is made apparent that Owen tended to use pathetic fallacy as a
motif to reflect the internal conflicts of the soldiers. When the weather is peaceful, the soldiers are too,
as seen briefly in

The Most Dangerous Game Analysis
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game , Richard Connell uses multiple devices to create
suspense that readers may not be aware of. He uses figurative language, imagery, and the pacing of his
story to keep readers on the edge of their seats. In this short story, a hunter named Sanger Rainsford
meets General Zaroff, a friendly middle aged man on Ship Trap Island. The general later reveals his
true character through his gruesome actions. Figurative language is used greatly throughout this short
story. When one of Rainsford s comrades, named Whitney, asks Captain Nielsen about Ship Trap
Island, Whitney calls him fishy and worried at the time. Though when the yacht passses the island, he
admits that he feels the evil energy radiating from it. In addition to that, when Rainsford finally
reaches the island, he claims that he is safe from the sea. On the yacht, Whitney declares that Captain
Nielsen s fishy blue eyes held a look ... never saw there ... . (Connell, page 1) Even the seafaring
captain was terrified of Ship Trap Island! This is comparing Captain Nielsen s blue eyes to a fish s
eyes. His eyes are suspicious and he is alert for any possible signs of danger to his yacht or crew. The
captain is taking extra precautions to ensure that they don t land on the deadly island, which causes the
readers to wonder what is so dreadful about Ship Trap Island. When Rainsford reaches the island, he
claims that he is finally safe from the sea. He realizes this from the muttering

times. Henry VIII was witty, highly educated, and had a love for music. Despite being good natured,
Henry knew how to get what he wanted no matter the cost. Overall, Henry VIII was well liked by his
people and was determined to accomplish great things throughout his reign and lifetime. The second
son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 at Greenwich
Palace. He had 6 siblings, but only 3 survived. Their names were Arthur, Margaret, and Mary. Henry

A Research Study On Mentoring Program
Summary Mentoring program have become common place in the social service community, their
general effectiveness has been well evaluated. This research will provide foundation for the following
review of Deep blue lines, focusing on mentor/mentee relationships, family involvement, their camp
element and program evaluation (DBL). DBL is a mentoring program for at risk youths, run by Police
Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) is a aimed at 13 17 year olds who are at risk of entering into criminal
activities or disengaging from community, education and family. DBL involves small group mentoring
sessions ran by police officers, focusing on communication, goal setting, making good choices, and
positive self image. Another element to the program is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The program connects at risk teens with positive mentors, in order to learn to communicate, set goals,
make positive choices and create healthy relationships, in addition, they participate in a camp where
they are challenged to apply the skills they have acquired (2016). DBL has no official documentation
of how it is evaluation thus it will be evaluated through the framework of comparative literature based
on similar mentoring programs.
There is no statistically information based on DBL to infer if the program is successful or otherwise.
Evaluation of such a program is valuable to assess not only the success of your program but also, your
demographic so you can further tailor your program to your participants, gain access to funding
through suppling evidence of your results, gain community support by showing the community your
results (Parker and Lamont, 2010). Karcher et al. found that evaluation contributed to program
improvments inclding increased training for mentors, and improved plasticity to allow for individual
needs (2006). This aspect is lacking in DBL and needs to be introduced to gain valuable information
that will assist in the improvement and success of the program however, there have been other
effective elements of DBL identified.
A factor that has been identified as effective in mentoring programs of at risk teens is an engaging
relationship between mentor and mentee, this is often

Description And Reflection Of The Dallas Museum Of Art

ENG 1301

Description and Reflection of Dallas Museum The Dallas Museum is a renowned art museum
established in 1903 and is located in Dallas, Texas (Neumann et al. 19). The Dallas Museum of art is
one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000
collections of art ranging from the ancient to the modern ones (MacDonald Brettell 112). There are
numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture,
that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and the
human society. My goal in this essay is to think outside the box and describe the observations I made
inside the museum and explain how they relate to my everyday life, the wider world, or the human
society. The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I observed inside the
Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile type tower, most likely a
representation of a historic skyscraper (Walker 73). The painting applies a fractured perspective
blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald
Brettell 117). The painting is a reflection of the dynamism and energetic expansion of the current New
York City. The geometrical arrangement of the buildings in the painting resemble the current scenes
witnessed in New York, championing a fast pace and a

Why God Is Forever Faithful
I believe God is forever faithful. There have had countless times that I have seen the work of God. The
first, seeing my alcoholic son find the help to stop drinking and to want to keep striving to be the man,
father, and husband that God intended him to be. Another, in 1990, my husband had his colon
removed. Three years, twelve surgeries, and almost death later he pulled through. Next is when my
children were young and facing important situations or have important questions, I would say an
instant prayer for wisdom before answering them. It was amazing to hear what God gave me for a
reply. And last, our thirty year old daughter had a reflex door that went between her kidney and
bladder that would not shut so she had constant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they are not open to talk of the Lord, I can privately pray for them. I believe God is personally there
for us. I love constantly talking with God. I feel he personally is with us and answers us in his own
way. I find myself asking him for wisdom when I have to help someone with issues. I see his beauty
as I go about my day and thank him. In tough times I have a quick phrase that I sing as a prayer, I need
you now . Once I was driving and I was listening to Christian music and just enjoying feeling close to
him. I said something to him in my head. All of a sudden, I heard a very funny response in a clear
voice next to me. I had to turn and make sure there wasn t anyone there. I know God has a sense of
humor. I have felt God bring comfort to me during difficult situations. When I have to write papers for
school, I feel anxious and pray for clarity and guidance. I know that God is personally there for me. I
feel that having a strong and true belief in God will reflect on to my clients to give them a comfort
when working with me. God will be in every one of my sessions to help guide me and show me what
the client s issues are and to help me pick up the nonverbal communications that they are exhibiting. I
know that God will work through me and my clients Philippians 4:131. I believe God is our great

Along with the Benefit Measurement Method, Constrained optimization method can also be used
which involves mathematical approach. Since this method involves the mathematical approach,
several calculations are performed in order to take a decision to accept or reject the project.
Mathematical models, also known as Constrained Optimization Methods, are a category of project
selection methods, which is a tool and technique of the Develop Project Charter process (PMP, 2008).
Cost benefit analysis is one of the methods which fall into this category. All the positives and
negatives of the project are taken into consideration and then the negatives are carefully excluded
from the benefits. Different results are produced for the different projects. The most worthy and
financially rewarding option are selected from these results. When employing this method, there are
many things that are to be considered such as the impact of the decision on the development of the
organization in the future, the length of time the equipment lasts and whether it is possible to do the
cost control during the project.

The Consequences Of The Hunger Games
The duration of the Hunger Games kept me on the edge of my seat, hanging off of every single word.
Katniss Everdeen kept her strong yet cold demeanor throughout the novel, which leads me to believe
this played a role earning her success in the arena. The entirety of the book was a smooth flowing plot
with hailstorms of suspense. Suzanna Collins added the perfect amount of obstacles and trust, leading
the novel to become a bestseller. Admitting, Peeta Mellark helped Katniss pull of an oblivious cute
ditzy look which overall led to her victory and ensured her lifeline in the end. The falling action was
absolutely heartstopping as our two lovestruck characters were going to end it all by consuming a
toxic berry known in the book as nightlock. One could practically hear the reader s heart stop as the
gamemaster Claude put an immediate halt to the action, ultimately saving both Peeta and Katniss s
lives. The trickery Claude portrayed to the duo seemed sickening, though the pair made it out
tremendously due to Katniss s deadly nightlock scheme. District twelve was their next destination
after many live broadcasted television interviews after their gruesome time in the games. Even their
journey home consisted of heartbreak and expectancy. In the exposition the audience seeks more into
the tragic loss of Katniss s father, which has struck her cold. The cruel history behind what is known
was the Hunger Games is thoroughly explained, and the reader sees the usual morning routine that

St. Thomas Aquinas Argument On God
St. Thomas Aquinas is a famous philosopher from the medieval period who believed there was a god.
One of Aquinas significant works in philosophy was his argument that God exists. In Aquinas
argument, or also known as Summa Theologica, he uses five arguments to support the claim that God
exist and four of them are cosmological argument. Cosmological arguments are arguments that try to
reason that god exists because of the universe or cosmos leads to the conclusion that god exists. His
first argument is the Argument From Motion. In the argument of motion Aquinas observed that we live
in a world and universe that things are continuously moving, and he also noticed that to make
something move something has to move or start it moving. To Aquinas this means that everything that
is moving must have been moved by something or someone and there had to be a time when the thing
wasn t moving. The mover for the beginning of everything in Aquinas argument is God. The second
argument is the Argument From Causation which is very similar to the Argument From Motion.
Aquinas thoughts were that everything that is caused had to be caused by something else. Nothing can
cause it s self so there must be an thing that is uncaused and to Aquinas that thing is God because it
can t go back forever. The Third argument is The Argument From Contingency. Contingency is a
future or thing that could have not existed and Aquinas believe that the world can t always be
contingent because then it could have

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Chesapeake Colonies
Chesapeake is similar to Jamestown, in a few ways both of them had many changes in political
systems, grew tobacco as a cash crop, used slaves, and were Christian. They were also different, of
course, as the political systems they each went through were not the same, Jamestown traded with
natives when they were not squabbling, while the Chesapeake only did initially, their denominations
of Christianity were different, and their physical settlements were slightly different as well.
Both colonies changed political systems and powers throughout their lifetimes sometimes the change
was necessary, other times it was for the benefit of those in power, others due to the protest of the
colonists. Of course, both of these colonies went through different systems as they changed, being in
different situations. Jamestown first was founded with the Virginia Company supporting it, and having
multiple colony leaders in charge of the other colonists. The Virginia Stock Company was a good idea
in theory many investors would pool their money into the colonies in hope for profit however, it
eventually failed because it did not make enough profit to sustain itself. Before this failure, a few new
systems were put into place. The colony needed more settlers, so the company gave anyone who paid
for their trip to the colony a grant of land, and anyone having someone paying their fare would work

Lytic conditions involve the loss of bone (Byers, 2010). Osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis are both
common forms of arthritis. Arthritis is a highly prevalent disease that affects 8.5 million people in the
UK and almost a quarter of doctor s visits regard this illness. Osteoporosis causes disproportionate
bone loss and inadequate bone replacement. The bone loss causes weakness, so osteoporosis often
causes fractures in the vertebral column, femur and radius. Osteoporosis is more common in women,
with one in three women developing it in their lifetimes. The proportion of men who develop

Rickets and Osteomalacia present when the body either does not receive enough vitamin D in the diet
(malnutrition) or is not capable of acquiring enough vitamin D from food (malabsorption) (Black and
Ferguson, 2011). Both conditions cause skeletal deformity, rickets causes disruptions in the modelling
and remodelling of the bone. Osteomalacia is a little different, modelling of the bone does not take
place, growth plates fuse, and remodelling is abnormal. Rickets is more obvious in sections of bone in
which growth is the fastest. Therefore, the skull, rib cage, wrists and legs are most affected in children.
Osteomalacia is found in adults when symptoms occur the axial skeleton is most affected.
Osteomalacia may cause waddling and so the gait of the person should be tested. In rickets, radiology

When Amenhotep IV rose to power, his first move was to shift the royal residence of the pharaoh and
his wife to Akhetaten. He then changed his name to Akhenaten to reflect the dramatic change which
he intended to bring to the religious theology. The most distinctive characteristic about this era is that
Akhenaten converted the religion from one that worshipped many deities to a monotheistic ... Show

The king became the only prophet of Aten and people had to pray in front of an altar that contained
the portrait of the king and his family. Akhenaten then sent his stonemasons to swarm the country and
abroad to destroy the all accessible monuments that had Amun s name. Everything else that did not fit
into Aten s nature was no longer considered as divine.
This era is also characterized by the notable changes in the Egyptian art. In the new style, the king and
his wife Nefertiti were represented with narrow and elongated arms, enlarged stomachs and hips,
noticeable breasts even on Akhenaten, and an elongated neck. These were also used to represent other
humans but with less exaggerations. The art in this period became a lasting influence even after the
collapse of Amarna. After his death, he suffered the Damnatio Memoriae which is a judgment that
claims that someone must never be remembered.
This has served to teach governments who wish to introduce radical changes to the beliefs and
practices of the people that though they may decree what should be done and force the people to start
practicing those beliefs, they can never eliminate the beliefs that have been in the communities for
ages. They will only last as long as the government does and then people will go back to what they
believe

Characteristics Of Chinese Legal System For Ngos
Introduction
Over the past 66 years since 1949, China has been through a unique development and economic
growth patterns. Particularly, during the opening up reform era in 1978, China restructured the
planned economy into the market economy to temporize the process of globalization (Gunter Rosen,
2012). The rapid development of economics and opening policy environment incubate the
increasingly presence of social groups (Gunter Rosen, 2012;Yin, 2009). But still, compared with other
Western countries, China is in the early stage of exploring and formalizing civil society and NGOs
(Qi, 2011). Currently, the global influences and the power of China cannot be ignored. Scholars and
practitioners hold positive attitudes toward China s role in contributing to global development. Based
on the structure of assessment tools (International Center for Not for Profit Law, 2014), this memo
will briefly introduce the general legal system of civil groups in China.
The Unique Characteristics of Chinese Legal System for NGOs
Legal Environment o The democracy reform of China promotes the civic engagement and social
service delivery (Yin, 2009). With the development of social economic development, Chinese
government takes advantage of multiple instruments with citizen oriented and effective driven ideas to
engage civil society organizations in the government supported social service delivery (Qi, 2011). But
the influences and control of government over NGOs still strong, in which some

Macbeth s Downfall
British politician William Pitt once said that [u]nlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those
who possess it; and this I know ... that where law ends, tyranny begins . Pitt s assertion is substantiated
by William Shakespeare s 17th century tragedy entitled Macbeth, where the protagonist Macbeth
commits unspeakable crimes in his pursuit of power, including the murders of many innocent people
such as King Duncan I of Scotland, Macduff s entire family, and his friend Banquo. Consequently,
Macbeth becomes paranoid and is ultimately slain by Macduff at the end of play. Macbeth s lust for
power leads him to his downfall as it causes him to slowly metamorphose from a courageous, loyal,
and noble general to a brutal, cruel and inhumane tyrant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes murdering his friend and ally Banquo, who has done Macbeth no harm, as well as
attempting to murder Banquo s innocent son Fleance. Macbeth killed Duncan in order to make himself
king of Scotland, but he fears that his felony will be futile in the long term if Banquo s descendants,
rather than his own, are destined to wear the crown. In order to prevent his worst fear from becoming
reality, Macbeth hires assassins to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance, in an effort to prevent the
witches prophecies about Banquo from being fulfilled. Macbeth attempts to tamper with fate even
though fate is an inevitable course of events that is predetermined by God and is beyond human
control. Macbeth kills Banquo in order to satisfy his greed and, thus, he must pay the consequences
for his actions. Additionally, Macbeth developed hubris, believing that he is invincible and nobody can
slay him. Consequently, Macbeth s hubris slowly becomes his dominant character trait. This is evident
when Macbeth visits the witches at his own free will. After the witches give him the three apparitions,
Macbeth presumes that the witches apparitions can never come true and, therefore, he is invulnerable
(Shakespeare 4.1.104 105). Macbeth s hubris lingers to the very end of the play, even when he knows
that his defeat is inevitable. When Macbeth finally realizes the witches deception during his fight with
Macduff, Macduff suggests that Macbeth should capitulate. In turn, Macbeth replies, I will not yield,/
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,/ And to be baited with the rabble s curse./ Though
Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,/ And thou opposed, being of no woman born,/ Yet I will try the
last (Shakespeare 5.8.32 37). This quote bespeaks the magnitude of Macbeth s hubris. Macbeth
refuses to surrender to his enemies and demonstrates that his pride is so

Redemption In A Long Way Gone By Ismael Beah
People will sometimes think which would be the most effective method to use to right wrongs
redemption or revenge? When righting a wrong, redemption is a more effective method than revenge.
Redemption will usually result in less violence and there will be less problems to deal with. Revenge
on the other hand, will usually result in more violence and it occasionally bites back on whoever was
getting revenge on someone else or a group of people for some specific reason and sometimes things
will tend to not go as planned.
An example would be from a book titled A Long Way Gone by Ismael Beah. In page 128 of the book,
Ishmael says I was talking at gatherings in Freetown about child soldiering and how it must be
stopped. We can be rehabilitated, I would emphasize [...] I would tell people that I believe children
have the resilience to outlive their suffering, if given a chance. After Ishmael rehabilitates, he comes to
believe that child soldiering must be stopped and how children can outlive their sufferings if they are
given the chance. Through rehabilitation Ishmael redeems himself as he now sees that being a child
soldier is not a good thing. Another thing he says in the book is on page 151 where he says What I
have learned from my experiences is that revenge is not good. I joined the army to avenge the deaths
of my family and to survive, but I ve come to learn that if I am going to take revenge, in that process I
will kill another person whose family will want revenge; then revenge and revenge ... Show more

Lisa is a 40 year old military veteran. Lisa made two tours of Iraq between 2003 and 2007 as a soldier.
Two years ago, Lisa witnessed an armed robbery in a convenience store. Soon after it, she began
experiencing panic attacks and elevated levels of anxiety. I will consider anxiety disorders and
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) defined by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders, fifth edition (DSM 5) (2013) as Lisa s potential diagnoses.
Although Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is more typical for children, adults can be diagnosed
with it if the disturbance persists for 6 months or more. Patients experience marked anxiety and fear to
be separated from their home or from an attachment figure. They may have nightmares about
separation and are reluctant to go out of the home. Since Lisa does not feel anxiety about separation
from a significant figure or from her home, I rule out this diagnosis.
Selective Mutism is presented in DSM 5 as predominantly (but not exclusively) a disorder of children.
It is characterized by inability to speak in specific social situations despite general capacity of
speaking and communicating. Lisa did not report any social situations in which she failed to speak or

Explain Why I Want To Be An Obstetrician
Have you thought about your career in the future? Most people in my school know what they want
their career for them to be. For example, my cousin who is now a senior, decided that he wanted to go
to the military, like many other young men. Even I, a twelve year old girl, knows and planned what
she wants to do in the future. I will try really hard to become obstetrician, a type a doctor who delivers
babies. The reason for my choice is because of many things about them except the money. That is why
I always try really hard in school and it pays off. I chose my career, now it is your turn.
One of the reasons I want to be an obstetrician is because I, as any other person, admire there work. I
do not care how much money I will get paid because the only reason I want to be an obstetrician is
because I have always admired them because they are the people who help bring new life into our
world. They also delivered me, and my whole family so I should be thankful for that. If it was not for
them I would not have been on this world and neither would other people and that would not be a

Orientalism in M. Butterfly
She is petite, submissive, and great in bed, the greatest combination for the perfect woman. Yellow
fever is the psychological inclination towards Asian woman that has been expressed by a portion of
the male population. This stereotype is a part of orientalism that continues to be discussed amongst
today s society; it is deemed odd or labeled as a fetish. M. Butterfly a Tony Award playwright written
by David Henry Hwang consists of ideas related to orientalism through the layers developed in gender
identity, global politics and art forms. The play begins in the present 1988 with Rene Gallimard sitting

Butterfly does not reflect the complications between the U.S. and China, but certainly depicts secret
intelligence being traded among the Chinese from an outlier source, French diplomat Rene Gallimard,
who did not realize this deception from his Perfect Woman , Song Liling. Before the full context of M.
Butterfly can be explored, it is important to establish the oriental stereotype that is expressed in the
play.
Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as submissive and
passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex , Oriental woman, as Said (1979)
states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures of a male
power fantasy and Asians as a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated, easy targets for
exploitations and dominance. Asian woman, always caged and subordinate both in the patriarchic
society and in the Oriental rhetoric tradition, are natural subjects for the White s desire (Weilin).
This stereotype is still regarded in todays society. According to Prof. Dr. Opfermann and Prof. Dr.
Wippermann from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, their thesis Orientalism in Contemporary

David Henry Hwang had two objectives in mind ... (1) Negating

Chlorophyll And The Concentration Of Chlorophyll
Plankton are aquatic organisms that drift throughout their environment as they posses no true motor
capabilities. Within their respective aquatic habitats plankton form the productive basis of their
ecosystem and are divided into two subcategories: zooplankton and phytoplankton, the later will be
the primary focus of this paper. Phytoplankton, as well as other photosynthetic organisms poses
pigments called chlorophyll. These pigments allow phytoplankton to convert carbon dioxide and water
to oxygen and sugar, which provides the phytoplankton with energy. Due to the fact that all
phytoplankton posses chlorophyll scientists have developed methods that use chlorophyll testing in
order to understand more about phytoplankton as a whole. Phytoplankton posses different types of
chlorophyll but scientists usually sample chlorophyll a as it is the most abundant form (YSI
Environmental, Cullen 1982, Santos 2003). Several different methods have been developed to analyze
the concentration of chlorophyll a.
One method of analyzing chlorophyll a that has been developed is through chlorophyll extraction. In
order to perform this method one must first collect a fairly large water sample (see Plankton Web
citation for surface water sampling techniques). This sample must then be filtrated in order to
concentrate the chlorophyll containing organisms (see Plankton Web for filtration methods). Finally
mechanical rupturing of the collected cells, and extraction of the chlorophyll from the

Case Study Of Saint Chinian
Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit
Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a small
and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is best
suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous wine
named after it, called the Saint Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that are
planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high quality
wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and the unusual
whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are called Grenache,
Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne
Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here s a bit on the different varieties of the
Mediterranean wine.
Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry red fruits and mixed spice with rounded
tannins.
Syrah produces wines with intense aromatics of blackberry fruits, pepper spice and violets, and gives

American Foreign Policy Since World War 2
Background to U.S Foreign Policy
In their book American Foreign Policy since World War 2, Steven W. Hook, and John Spanier take a
historical look at American foreign policy. Since its independence, all through to the start of the 20th
century, the United States had a policy of detachment. This was rooted in the believe that Europe, the
only other meaningful powerful in the world in the 18th and 19th century, had intrinsic issues related
to feudism that kept the continent in a constant state of war (Hook Spanier, 2015). The U.S on its part
was far away from Europe and had a unique chance to chart a different course, one free from the
troubles of Europe. As a democracy free from the class systems of Europe and hence maintain peace
and stability (Hook Spanier, 2015). To maintain this peace and stability, it was in the United States
interests to maintain detachment from Europe. In fact, Monroe wrote that Europe and its flawed
system was evil and America should strive as much as possible to stay away from it (Hook Spanier,
2015). However, in the 20th century, this policy of detachment was put to the test when the United
States was drawn into the first and second world wars by external factors. This led the United States to
get more engaged in global affairs. The idea behind engagement was to promote the ideals of
democracy which, the U.S believed were the pillars of peace, as well as to protect itself from
aggressors like Japan in the Second World War. After the

Fascism in the Contemporary World Essay
Fascism in the Contemporary World
This research examines the development of fascism and ultranationalism in contemporary Croatia,
Hungary, and Serbia. Fascism and ultranationalism are not one and the same thing. While a fascist
likely will be an ultranationalist (and will certainly be nationalistic), an ultranationalist need not
necessarily be a fascist. As these two terms are critical to this examination, they must be defined.
Ultranationalism
Ultranationalism implies not only an intensely patriotic attitude toward and a highly chauvinistic
perception of one s own nation, but also implies a desire to exclude others from one s nation,
particularly should those others be in some way different from the majority population in ... Show

Generally speaking, however, the populations of both Germany and Japan are more aware of the rest
of the world than is true in the United States. Insularity in Germany and Japan stems not from the
ignorance of the world found in the United States, but rather from a desire to avoid societal pollution.
The German and Japanese governments are also less interventionist internationally than is the United
States government, and, thus, more in tune with societal preferences.
Ultranationalism, thus, is defined in terms of patriotism, chauvinism, insularity, exclusion, and a
withdrawal from international interventionism. To some extent, these phenomena must be present in a
society or in an organization designated as ultranationalist in character.
Fascism
Fascism is a term that is even more misused and misunderstood than ultranationalism. To many people
in the United States, the federal government is fascist, although in fact the American federal
government is not fascist in character. To many people around the world, fascism is equated with
racism. The original fascists which developed in Italy, however, were not racist. In fact, to many

Compare And Contrast The White Duster And The Duchess Of...
THE EVALUATION ART OF WEBSTER AS A DRAMATIST
ABSTRACT
Webster is one of the greatest dramatist in the Post Elizabethan period and his place is among the
tragedy writers of the Elizabethan Age. The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi, in these two
tragedies, he reveals himself as great dramatist, and his power to grip the imagination by subtle
suggestions. Both these plays present a study in revenge a subject dear to the heart of the Elizabethan
dramatists. Webster used psychological approach to characters, pessimism, satirical intent and
humanity in sense of pathos in his plays. That plays are value of men and women have been plunged
into and also struggled against wickedness have been the object of his study. Webster s reputation rests
on The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi. Opinions differ as to which is the better. The Duchess
of Malfi would probably be if a vote were taken but for freshness and intensity of passion the white

for downright imaginative beauty and pathos, Webster is unapproachable, except by Shakespeare.
Take for instance this; There is much pathos and beauty also in The Duchess of Malfi especially in the

obvious in its claim upon our sympathies. The tragedy is marked with a note of pathos and we feel

Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or More
Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same time, as well as those
learning a second language while continuing to develop their first (or home) language (Dual language
learning, 2008). The number of children being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing,
however the mechanism of language development in children from bilingual homes is not well
described or understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that dual
language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children exposed to two
languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two phonological systems, two

English languages in the United States (Montrul, 2012). Heritage language learners contain a
heterogeneous group ranging from fluent native speakers to non speakers who may be generations
removed but who may feel culturally connected to a language (Deusen Scholl, 2003). A heritage
language program is any language development program that is designed or tailored to address the
needs of heritage language learners, and heritage language programs may be at any level or setting and
vary in terms of their approaches to teaching, populations they serve, and other factors (Chao, 1997).
Heritage language programs have three major educational contexts: community based program, K 12,
and higher education. Heritage language schools are often created out of a community s desire to pass
on their language and culture from one generation to the next in order to maintain connections within
families and communities

Fall of feudalism paper
10/30/2013 Quarterly Assessment How did Political, Social and Economic events which occurred
during the Middle Ages contribute to the rapid fall of Feudalism and increase the foundation of nation
states? Since politics and social matters are so closely founded the way that these two subcategories of
the middle ages clashed against the Feudal way of organizing everything in the middle ages are.
Politically kings ruled the way that everyone lived and by doing so this would later on provoke a
tremendous backlash when Peasants learned that they had a say too and that by them doing the work
that the king so desperately needed it could either fracture or mend a broken European ... Show more

The plague had an important role in the decline of Feudalism one of these are as follows power had to
shift from nobles to common people because the demand for workers (to rebuild the economy) was
high but there were less workers than before the black death the cause is that a majority of them died
from sickness, this let the workers that remained to be able to demand more money and more rights.
This finally resulted in many serfs (A laborer bound to the Feudal system) to leave the manors and
move to cities for more opportunities, therefore completely changing their daily life from disgusting
conditions to somewhat civilized human habitable conditions. Crusades were a great redemption point
in the middle ages these were military expeditions that derived from the pope and they had one goal,
to capture the Holy Land from the Muslim Turks. These crusades occurred between 1096 and 1272 all
failed to win back the holy land from the Muslim Turks, crusades helped Europeans to build better
ships and draw better maps and by doing so they could manage trade routes much more efficiently and
allowing explorers to reach land much faster and claim it for Europe enhancing the economy with
faster trading and navigation. Crusades drastically accelerated the decline of feudalism because,
Feudal lords spent all the

The Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid )
Introduction As technology advances, businesses use technology to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry.
These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients,
doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack
of communication or people with serious conditions. (Hu, 2015) With hospitals finding different way
to attract new patients in, these devices also help hospitals save money on the management side to
keep them afloat. This advanced technology has great potential to improve patient experience in
healthcare by taking away human error out of the equation.
Literature Review RFID uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attach to
objects. These tags contain electronically stored information. The information can be read by RFID
readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or
RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag
to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to
continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. The information is transfer efficiently
and automatically without human intervention. (Yao, 2012) RFIDs can be used the 5 areas that are
considered to be where

Flatbed Vehicle
When you place a call to arrange for towing service, odds are good that you ll expect one specific type
of tow truck to arrive: a flatbed vehicle. However, there are actually multiple types of tow trucks that
roadside assistance teams may use. While not every towing service will have all of them in their fleet,
it s worth asking about, in order to ensure you get the right vehicle for your needs.
The following are the three most common towing vehicles in use:
Flatbed Truck
Again, this is the most well known variety. As the name suggests, it consists of a truck with a wide
flatbed area for your vehicle to rest on. Small ramps allow the crew to drag or drive your car up into
the flatbed. Typically, this is regarded as the safest towing vehicle

Characteristics Of Gun Shootings
When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators
and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore,
rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in
handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based
on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can
present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit
characteristics. The muzzle to distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the
shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a crime scene an investigator must gather evidence
at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class characteristics of a
firearm, bullet or shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and
DNA evidence.
Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun
powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate
and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber handgun,
which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. The automatic pistol
arrived in the late twentieth century. Today, modern firearms come in a variety of

Essay about The Representation of Power in Cormier s The...
Inspired by the actions of his son, Robert Cormier decided to write this novel titled The Chocolate
War. Cormier s son Peter, had refused to sell chocolates at his school s annual sale as a matter of
principle (Kemp1), so Cormier thought that it would be an interesting plot for a book. In this book,
Robert Cormier introduces us to many characters that personify evil in order to try to control and
manipulate each other to gain power. The concept of power is represented in many different ways
throughout this novel. In this paper I will explain how power is represented in The Chocolate War, and
how it works. I will explain the different kinds of power that operate in the school. Also I will explain
whether the protagonist Jerry Renault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 3 we are reminded that The Chocolate War is also a coming of age novel. When Jerry looks
at the pornographic magazine, he is now beginning to want to know and understand the processes of
adolescent and adulthood. So he buys a magazine with the curiosity of what kind of satisfaction the
other kids were receiving by glaring at the images in the magazines. He is in that stage of wanting to
be accepted. Cormier made Jerry s character out to be an outcast, being the one that would always get
beaten up by the bully. Which proved to be correct when Emile Janza, the school s bully begins to
pick on him. Although Emile was the school s bully he too, respected the Vigils to a certain extent.
Archie was also a bully, but he bullied the minds of the other kids. He did not resort to physical abuse
but he indeed psychologically bullied people including Emile Janza.
Fear also played a factor throughout this story. Fear is what made the Goober go into Brother Eugene s
room and loosen all of the screws from the furniture. This brings us back to the psychological bullying
of Archie, because the Goober was mentally sick when he found out that the actions of his assignment
had made Brother Eugene sick. The other students were also frightened by the Vigils so they to carried
out any assignments that they were given. This story is written with a lot of hidden symbols and
meanings within the events that occur. Jerry also feared the Vigils at first but as the story

Differences Between Middle And Upper Class
The Many Differences between Lower, Middle and Upper Class There are various ways of referring to
class. Often, when people talk about lower/middle and upper class, they talk in terms of blue/white
collar jobs. Ideally we would all think we fall into the middle class; however, most of society is in the
lower/middle class even though they are working their dream job with a degree. Additionally, the
American dream has changed drastically throughout the years. The unfair, the system that effects the
rich poor balance has been getting big traction. Middle class is paying higher taxes than upper class;
the tax systems are upside, and down poor people are paying more and the rich people are paying less.
I believe that wealthy people are paying too little taxes. When you are in the middle class you are
stuck paying more than someone that is the upper class. According to David Leonhardt in Inequality
has been going on forever... he mentioned, Instead their middle class and poor have enjoyed more
aggressively rising incomes, all while their economies grow as rapidly as this country s in recent
years. (Leonardt 543) For instance, working in the middle class we don t get enough money to pay off
every single thing, so we have to try to balance all the bills and necessities out. I see many people are
struggling they cannot pay all of their bills.
Lower/Middle class cannot afford to pay more taxes because they do not make enough with the taxes
they are already taking off their

Passion Definition Essay
What is the meaning of passion? For many, it has it s own unique definition, a definition that has
revolutionized over time. When asked, most people would define their sense of passion as an intense
or uncontrollable emotion towards someone or something . However, the original meaning of the word
passion, especially in regards to the passion of Jesus Christ, takes on a different definition. When
exploring the biblical interpretation of the word passion, it is important to note the incredible role
Jesus Christ played in truly defining the word. Exploring what the old meaning of the word passion is,
examining Jesus Christ s source and direction of passion, and how we portray and define his passion
today will all contribute to understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Passion stems from the Latin word pati, meaning to suffer and the stem pass comes from the word
passive, meaning capable of suffering. In the early 16th century, the stem pass began being defined as
the suffering of Christ on the cross. When the English also began recognizing the word passion , they
defined the word with a different interpretation. They defined the word as strength of feeling. The
English interpretation has been carried over several centuries and contributes to our understanding of
the word in today s society. Today we define passion as sexual attraction and anger, and along the
same lines, love and desire. It is an emotion that people often refer to as the reason behind what is
driving them to pursue their goals in every aspect of life, personal or professional. So how do today s
definition of passion and the biblical definition of passion connect? Many scholars not only define
passion in the bible as Jesus s sufferings, but also the state or capacity of being acted on by external
agents or forces. Meaning, just as God was the external force that influenced Jesus in his passions, He
influences ours as

The Criminological Theory For Mike Tyson
The criminological theory for Mike Tyson is a classical theory. The criminological theory classical is
Crime occurs when the benefits outweigh the costs when people pursue self interest in the absence of
effective punishments. Crime is a free willed choice. See also deterrence, rational choice. Mike Tyson
allegedly raped her on July 19 in his hotel room. Mike Tyson was convicted with rape on March 26,
1992. That put a pause in the famous Mike Tyson boxing career for a while. Rape is a despicable
crime that some can t be forgiven or forgotten. Rape is an act of sexual violence towards another
human being without their consents. It s not only if you have their consent, they also have to be old
enough. Rape will give you the consequences of going to jail. Doing so will affect the person that has
committed it and the person that has been violated. Classical Theory applies to Mike Tyson in much
different type of components. Mike Tyson wanted sex with a young female and he received it. That
falls under the category of when you pursue self interest. In many or almost all cases of rape it seems
like it is self interest. Once you commit rape you should know that there will be consequences if you
are caught. But, in Mike Tyson case he claims that she gave him consent to have sex with the young
female. So that believed Mike Tyson to not suffer any consequence because she gave him permission.
The classical theory also applies to Mike Tyson because it also means that crime is a

Homecoming Research Paper
I ve always loved Homecoming and one of my favorite parts of homecoming is being apart of the
committee that plans the events. This past year we got a new football field and were no longer allowed
to have our homecoming floats on the field. This lead to the cancellation of float building, one of the
schools biggest bonding experiences, as well as our homecoming parade. When we realized there was
no way of bringing floats back, we decided as a committee to brainstorm events that could replace it. I
suggested the idea of a carnival. We ended up deciding to have the carnival and since I came up with
the idea, I was put in charge of planning the first annual carnival. Our field was closed due to
construction, subsequently clubs weren t able

The Ethics And Morality Of Stem Cell Research
The Ethics and Morality Of Stem Cell Research
When does life begin? Does it occur at the time of fertilization? Does it begin at 12 weeks? 6? Or is
there some other test determining whether or not a life begins and along with it the rights, that reside
to man. The natural rights that belong to every human being, most importantly of which, the right to
life. This is the discussion and debate that have been in the forefront of controversial issues for the
past 40 years. In most cases the topic of abortion is usually at the main focal point, but there are many
topics of debate that come with the territory of the beginning of life, and whether or not it is moral to

Or in his own words, I have always felt a nagging uneasiness at trying to rationalize the killing of
something for which I claim to have a profound respect. In this case the matter of the morality of the
abortion issue of stem cell research is less of a matter, than if it is taken place it must be done with
common sense and the respect. Though in doing so in a way that coincides with the definition of
whether the embryo is considered a human or not can respect still be respected. This is because,
respecting embryos for stem cell research and destroying them for research is not mutually exclusive.
Manninen article begins with former President George W. Bush. ON July 16, 2006 the former
president vetoed for the first time in his presidency at the time, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement
Act. The act would have relaxed, federal restrictions on the federal funding for embryonic stem cell
research in the United States. In protecting his veto, the former president said: These boys and girls
are not spareparts ... they remind us of what is lost when embryos are destroyed in the name of
research . It is clear what the former president thought about the morality of the issue. The author
writes, the president and others with that premise give only two choices in stem cell research. Either

Reflection On Practicum
My practicum was a good learning experience of practical public health work and exposure to how
zoonotic disease is handled by multiple public health departments. I appreciated my experience giving
me the knowledge of day to day public health work and what it means to be epidemiologist. My
classes in epidemiology prepared me well for understanding terminology and the process of outbreak
response. Particularly, my Applied Epidemiology course provided me with the critical thinking skills
to evaluate published literature. In reviewing my work I used multiple public health competencies
including biostatistics, epidemiology, communication and informatics, leadership, professionalism,
and program planning.
Discipline Specific Competencies:
Biostatistics. I applied basic informatics techniques with vital statistics and public health records in the
description of public health characteristics and in public health research and evaluation. [A.8] I used
my knowledge of basic biostatistics to compare positive cases, test submissions, and human
population to see if there was any correlation. Understanding biostatistics allowed me to make a valid
and meaningful comparison of this data. The information gathered from the biostatistics gives a
limited estimate of risk, and should be further evaluated to quantify this risk. The main goal of my
project was to interpret the results of statistical analyses in terms of epidemiological human risk
factors. [A.9]
Epidemiology. I applied basic

  • 2. Impact Of Terrorism On The Middle East HAMAS INTRODUCTION: Terrorism in the Middle East has brought the Israeli Palestinian conflict to the attention of the world. These terrorist groups use murder, bombs, threats, and other violent acts to get their way politically. Hamas, the organization that has replaced Fatah as the representative of the Palestinians, is a leading sponsor of terrorism. Critics say the group is a terrorist organization that wants nothing but to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth. Supporters say Hamas, which represents the only organized Palestinian military force, is a coalition of freedom fighters and liberators defending the Palestinian people. HAMAS CREATION AND LEADERSHIP: This group was created in 1987 and continues to expand its power today. Hamas formed in late 1987 at the beginning of the first Palestinian intifada. Hamas was created by Sheik Ahmad Yasinat, along with Abdel Aziz al Rantissi, and Mohammad Taha in late 80 s at the beginning of the first Palestinian uprising ( Biersteker 2008). Hamas uses paramilitary force and the violent part of Hamas, stage anti Israeli attacks including improvised explosive device attacks, and rocket attacks against Israeli targets inside the country of Israel. Its roots are in the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and it is supported by a robust sociopolitical structure inside the Palestinian territories. The group s charter calls for establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in place of Israel and rejects all agreements made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Messenger by Markus Zusak THE MESSENGER By Markus Zusak Setting the scene: Ed Kennedy is a 19 year old cab driver with no real respect for himself. He wishes he could be something greater, but feels there s no way to accomplish this. He lives with a dog ( The Doorman ) that smells like death in a shack owned by his boss (CEO of Vacant Taxis ). Ed grew up in a less developed part of town and after graduating from high school, went straight into the work force, having not applied himself thoroughly enough to get into university. His mother, Bev, still lives in the house where Ed grew up, and has developed a strong swearing habit, a bad temper, and a penchant for hating Ed. Ed s father died about six months before the timeline of the story and was the one who passed on The Doorman to him. When not driving his cab, Ed spends most of the time playing cards with three close friends of his Audrey, Marv and Ritchie. Audrey is about the same age as Ed and is also a cab driver. Marv is a stingy mate who owns a shitty car, and Ritchie is a quiet, lazy person who occasionally makes perfectly timed wise cracks at Marv. Ed is totally in love with Audrey, but too afraid to tell her so, as she is seeing another colleague of theirs and doesn t want to ruin their friendship by admitting his feelings to her. Part One: The First Message The story opens with a bank robbery where Ed, Marv, Audrey and Ritchie just so happen to be there at the time. Neither Ed nor Marv take the gunman seriously. Ed just ... • 5. Futility, Spring Offensive And Exposure By Wilfred Owen Eco critics ask questions such as whether or not Everything is connected to everything else , in order to explore the realms of human thought. In relation to Wilfred Owen s poems; Futility, Spring Offensive, and Exposure, this theory that all living things are interconnected is a multifaceted one. Nature is used heavily as a centralised motif in each of them, albeit in different ways, in order to represent a range of both internal and external battles Owen s soldiers are forced to undergo during active service in the war. The soldiers are also depicted to depend on, as well as exploit their rural surroundings in equal measure, particularly concerning military action. As a concept, ecocriticism is a contemporary approach and it is therefore highly unlikely that Owen would have intentionally included such heavily cited links with eco criticism, especially considering that he claimed his subject to be, war and the pity of war . Owen himself believed that the war he was fighting was needless, and only caused pain and suffering. His work sheds light on the harsh, brutality of warfare whilst challenging the patriotic nature of other existing war poems at the time, believing that they did not truly depict the war he was all too familiar with, true Poets must be Truthful . However, applying Owen s work through an ecological perspective is not a completely futile, as Owen s depth of understanding can provide us with insight into the effect humans, particularly soldiers, had on their biosphere during this period in history and vice versa; this is, The fundamental premise that human culture is connected to the physical world, affecting it and affected by it. It is these connections with the natural world that highlight both Owen s love of the natural world, influenced by the likes of Romanticist poet John Keats, and his sense of anguish towards humanity and their distorted concept of war. The obscure relationship between man and environment is addressed abundantly throughout each of the throughout the three poems, as it is made apparent that Owen tended to use pathetic fallacy as a motif to reflect the internal conflicts of the soldiers. When the weather is peaceful, the soldiers are too, as seen briefly in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Most Dangerous Game Analysis In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game , Richard Connell uses multiple devices to create suspense that readers may not be aware of. He uses figurative language, imagery, and the pacing of his story to keep readers on the edge of their seats. In this short story, a hunter named Sanger Rainsford meets General Zaroff, a friendly middle aged man on Ship Trap Island. The general later reveals his true character through his gruesome actions. Figurative language is used greatly throughout this short story. When one of Rainsford s comrades, named Whitney, asks Captain Nielsen about Ship Trap Island, Whitney calls him fishy and worried at the time. Though when the yacht passses the island, he admits that he feels the evil energy radiating from it. In addition to that, when Rainsford finally reaches the island, he claims that he is safe from the sea. On the yacht, Whitney declares that Captain Nielsen s fishy blue eyes held a look ... never saw there ... . (Connell, page 1) Even the seafaring captain was terrified of Ship Trap Island! This is comparing Captain Nielsen s blue eyes to a fish s eyes. His eyes are suspicious and he is alert for any possible signs of danger to his yacht or crew. The captain is taking extra precautions to ensure that they don t land on the deadly island, which causes the readers to wonder what is so dreadful about Ship Trap Island. Sanford ENG 1301 !8th November, 2017 Description and Reflection of Dallas Museum The Dallas Museum is a renowned art museum established in 1903 and is located in Dallas, Texas (Neumann et al. 19). The Dallas Museum of art is one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000 collections of art ranging from the ancient to the modern ones (MacDonald Brettell 112). There are numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture, that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and the human society. My goal in this essay is to think outside the box and describe the observations I made inside the museum and explain how they relate to my everyday life, the wider world, or the human society. The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I observed inside the Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile type tower, most likely a representation of a historic skyscraper (Walker 73). The painting applies a fractured perspective blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald Brettell 117). The painting is a reflection of the dynamism and energetic expansion of the current New York City. The geometrical arrangement of the buildings in the painting resemble the current scenes witnessed in New York, championing a fast pace and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another, in 1990, my husband had his colon removed. Three years, twelve surgeries, and almost death later he pulled through. Next is when my children were young and facing important situations or have important questions, I would say an instant prayer for wisdom before answering them. Katniss Everdeen kept her strong yet cold demeanor throughout the novel, which leads me to believe this played a role earning her success in the arena. The entirety of the book was a smooth flowing plot with hailstorms of suspense. Suzanna Collins added the perfect amount of obstacles and trust, leading the novel to become a bestseller. Admitting, Peeta Mellark helped Katniss pull of an oblivious cute ditzy look which overall led to her victory and ensured her lifeline in the end. The falling action was absolutely heartstopping as our two lovestruck characters were going to end it all by consuming a toxic berry known in the book as nightlock. One could practically hear the reader s heart stop as the gamemaster Claude put an immediate halt to the action, ultimately saving both Peeta and Katniss s lives. The trickery Claude portrayed to the duo seemed sickening, though the pair made it out tremendously due to Katniss s deadly nightlock scheme. • 14. St. Thomas Aquinas Argument On God St. Thomas Aquinas is a famous philosopher from the medieval period who believed there was a god. One of Aquinas significant works in philosophy was his argument that God exists. In Aquinas argument, or also known as Summa Theologica, he uses five arguments to support the claim that God exist and four of them are cosmological argument. Cosmological arguments are arguments that try to reason that god exists because of the universe or cosmos leads to the conclusion that god exists. His first argument is the Argument From Motion. In the argument of motion Aquinas observed that we live in a world and universe that things are continuously moving, and he also noticed that to make something move something has to move or start it moving. To Aquinas this means that everything that is moving must have been moved by something or someone and there had to be a time when the thing wasn t moving. The mover for the beginning of everything in Aquinas argument is God. The second argument is the Argument From Causation which is very similar to the Argument From Motion. Aquinas thoughts were that everything that is caused had to be caused by something else. Nothing can cause it s self so there must be an thing that is uncaused and to Aquinas that thing is God because it can t go back forever. The Third argument is The Argument From Contingency. Contingency is a future or thing that could have not existed and Aquinas believe that the world can t always be contingent because then it could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were also different, of course, as the political systems they each went through were not the same, Jamestown traded with natives when they were not squabbling, while the Chesapeake only did initially, their denominations of Christianity were different, and their physical settlements were slightly different as well. Both colonies changed political systems and powers throughout their lifetimes sometimes the change was necessary, other times it was for the benefit of those in power, others due to the protest of the colonists. Of course, both of these colonies went through different systems as they changed, being in different situations. Jamestown first was founded with the Virginia Company supporting it, and having multiple colony leaders in charge of the other colonists. The Virginia Stock Company was a good idea in theory many investors would pool their money into the colonies in hope for profit however, it eventually failed because it did not make enough profit to sustain itself. Particularly, during the opening up reform era in 1978, China restructured the planned economy into the market economy to temporize the process of globalization (Gunter Rosen, 2012). The rapid development of economics and opening policy environment incubate the increasingly presence of social groups (Gunter Rosen, 2012;Yin, 2009). Macbeth killed Duncan in order to make himself king of Scotland, but he fears that his felony will be futile in the long term if Banquo s descendants, rather than his own, are destined to wear the crown. In order to prevent his worst fear from becoming reality, Macbeth hires assassins to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance, in an effort to prevent the witches prophecies about Banquo from being fulfilled. Macbeth attempts to tamper with fate even though fate is an inevitable course of events that is predetermined by God and is beyond human control. Macbeth kills Banquo in order to satisfy his greed and, thus, he must pay the consequences for his actions. Additionally, Macbeth developed hubris, believing that he is invincible and nobody can slay him. Consequently, Macbeth s hubris slowly becomes his dominant character trait. This is evident when Macbeth visits the witches at his own free will. After the witches give him the three apparitions, Macbeth presumes that the witches apparitions can never come true and, therefore, he is invulnerable (Shakespeare 4.1.104 105). Macbeth s hubris lingers to the very end of the play, even when he knows that his defeat is inevitable. When Macbeth finally realizes the witches deception during his fight with Macduff, Macduff suggests that Macbeth should capitulate. In turn, Macbeth replies, I will not yield,/ To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,/ And to be baited with the rabble s curse./ Though Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,/ And thou opposed, being of no woman born,/ Yet I will try the last (Shakespeare 5.8.32 37). When righting a wrong, redemption is a more effective method than revenge. Redemption will usually result in less violence and there will be less problems to deal with. Revenge on the other hand, will usually result in more violence and it occasionally bites back on whoever was getting revenge on someone else or a group of people for some specific reason and sometimes things will tend to not go as planned. An example would be from a book titled A Long Way Gone by Ismael Beah. In page 128 of the book, Ishmael says I was talking at gatherings in Freetown about child soldiering and how it must be stopped. After Ishmael rehabilitates, he comes to believe that child soldiering must be stopped and how children can outlive their sufferings if they are given the chance. Another thing he says in the book is on page 151 where he says What I have learned from my experiences is that revenge is not good. • 36. American Foreign Policy Since World War 2 Background to U.S Foreign Policy In their book American Foreign Policy since World War 2, Steven W. Hook, and John Spanier take a historical look at American foreign policy. Since its independence, all through to the start of the 20th century, the United States had a policy of detachment. This was rooted in the believe that Europe, the only other meaningful powerful in the world in the 18th and 19th century, had intrinsic issues related to feudism that kept the continent in a constant state of war (Hook Spanier, 2015). The U.S on its part was far away from Europe and had a unique chance to chart a different course, one free from the troubles of Europe. As a democracy free from the class systems of Europe and hence maintain peace and stability (Hook Spanier, 2015). To maintain this peace and stability, it was in the United States interests to maintain detachment from Europe. In fact, Monroe wrote that Europe and its flawed system was evil and America should strive as much as possible to stay away from it (Hook Spanier, 2015). However, in the 20th century, this policy of detachment was put to the test when the United States was drawn into the first and second world wars by external factors. This led the United States to get more engaged in global affairs. The idea behind engagement was to promote the ideals of democracy which, the U.S believed were the pillars of peace, as well as to protect itself from aggressors like Japan in the Second World War. • 37. Fascism in the Contemporary World Essay Fascism in the Contemporary World This research examines the development of fascism and ultranationalism in contemporary Croatia, Hungary, and Serbia. Fascism and ultranationalism are not one and the same thing. While a fascist likely will be an ultranationalist (and will certainly be nationalistic), an ultranationalist need not necessarily be a fascist. As these two terms are critical to this examination, they must be defined. Ultranationalism Ultranationalism implies not only an intensely patriotic attitude toward and a highly chauvinistic perception of one s own nation, but also implies a desire to exclude others from one s nation, particularly should those others be in some way different from the majority population in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally speaking, however, the populations of both Germany and Japan are more aware of the rest of the world than is true in the United States. Insularity in Germany and Japan stems not from the ignorance of the world found in the United States, but rather from a desire to avoid societal pollution. The German and Japanese governments are also less interventionist internationally than is the United States government, and, thus, more in tune with societal preferences. Ultranationalism, thus, is defined in terms of patriotism, chauvinism, insularity, exclusion, and a withdrawal from international interventionism. To some extent, these phenomena must be present in a society or in an organization designated as ultranationalist in character. Fascism Fascism is a term that is even more misused and misunderstood than ultranationalism. To many people in the United States, the federal government is fascist, although in fact the American federal government is not fascist in character. To many people around the world, fascism is equated with racism. The original fascists which developed in Italy, however, were not racist. In fact, to many people, any approach to political action or government that differs from their own preferences is termed fascist. Such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

THE EVALUATION ART OF WEBSTER AS A DRAMATIST ABSTRACT Webster is one of the greatest dramatist in the Post Elizabethan period and his place is among the tragedy writers of the Elizabethan Age. The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi, in these two tragedies, he reveals himself as great dramatist, and his power to grip the imagination by subtle suggestions. Both these plays present a study in revenge a subject dear to the heart of the Elizabethan dramatists. Webster used psychological approach to characters, pessimism, satirical intent and humanity in sense of pathos in his plays. That plays are value of men and women have been plunged into and also struggled against wickedness have been the object of his study. Webster s reputation rests on The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi. Opinions differ as to which is the better. Webster knows the art of touching the heart of the readers by presenting spectacles of pathos in the plays. The Duchess of Malfi is marked with a note of deep pathos and the heart of readers is touched for sad lot of the Duchess and Cariola who meet their end at the hands of the executioners. In passionate vigour, Webster is inferior to Beaumont and fletcher, but for downright imaginative beauty and pathos, Webster is unapproachable, except by Shakespeare. Take for instance this; There is much pathos and beauty also in The Duchess of Malfi especially in the scene of the murder, though the play as a whole strikes one as less fresh in conception and more obvious in its claim upon our sympathies. Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or More Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same time, as well as those learning a second language while continuing to develop their first (or home) language (Dual language learning, 2008). The number of children being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing, however the mechanism of language development in children from bilingual homes is not well described or understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that dual language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children exposed to two languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two phonological systems, two vocabularies and two grammars (Kova´cs Mehler, 2009a; Petitto, ... Heritage languages refer to the languages spoken by immigrants and their children and has recently come to be used broadly by those concerned about the study, maintenance, and revitalization of non English languages in the United States (Montrul, 2012). A heritage language program is any language development program that is designed or tailored to address the needs of heritage language learners, and heritage language programs may be at any level or setting and vary in terms of their approaches to teaching, populations they serve, and other factors (Chao, 1997). • 41. The Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid ) Introduction As technology advances, businesses use technology to improve the efficiency of their operations. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry. These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients, doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack of communication or people with serious conditions. (Hu, 2015) With hospitals finding different way to attract new patients in, these devices also help hospitals save money on the management side to keep them afloat. This advanced technology has great potential to improve patient experience in healthcare by taking away human error out of the equation. Literature Review RFID uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attach to objects. These tags contain electronically stored information. The information can be read by RFID readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. The information is transfer efficiently and automatically without human intervention. (Yao, 2012) RFIDs can be used the 5 areas that are considered to be where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Gun Shootings When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore, rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and DNA evidence. Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber handgun, which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. The automatic pistol arrived in the late twentieth century. Today, modern firearms come in a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So he buys a magazine with the curiosity of what kind of satisfaction the other kids were receiving by glaring at the images in the magazines. He is in that stage of wanting to be accepted. Cormier made Jerry s character out to be an outcast, being the one that would always get beaten up by the bully. Which proved to be correct when Emile Janza, the school s bully begins to pick on him. Although Emile was the school s bully he too, respected the Vigils to a certain extent. Archie was also a bully, but he bullied the minds of the other kids. He did not resort to physical abuse but he indeed psychologically bullied people including Emile Janza. Fear also played a factor throughout this story. Fear is what made the Goober go into Brother Eugene s room and loosen all of the screws from the furniture. This brings us back to the psychological bullying of Archie, because the Goober was mentally sick when he found out that the actions of his assignment had made Brother Eugene sick.
