Essay on The Marxist Ideal Cannot Work
The Marxist ideal, a highly appealing, almost Utopian
society, is impossible to achieve due to the fact that it
demands that the human mind be almost without flaws. It
asks of society and its members to be absolutely without
ranks, without greed or leadership. This has been clearly
impossible for society. Each step to achieving a communist
establishment has been, continues to be, and will be, in
actuality, a step towards the totalitarian societies of past
and current so called communist countries. Communism
became popular solely in under developed countries,
contrary to Marx s beliefs as to what should happen, and
its rise in these countries was the beginning of its fall. Marx
believed that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the formation of this
Communist government began the downfall of Marx s
Ideal. Lenin had established a so called Marxist
government, but he felt that Russia was not yet ready for
the Marxist idea of Communism. He believed that the
country first had to be industrialized. That had been one of
Marx s stipulations. Secondly, Lenin felt that the new ruling
class, the proletariat, was not yet ready for ruling, so he
took up the position. That is where the chief problem lies,
in the implementation of the Marxist Ideal. From the very
beginning, even prior to the foretold revolution, the ideal is
fitted to the leaders viewpoints, which is completely
opposite to what Marx had envisioned. The problem with
capitalism, as Marx saw it, was that leaders were taking the
lives and futures of others in their hands and using them to
their advantage and this was forever escalating. As Leninist
Russia progressed, Lenin guaranteed that people did not
gain too much freedom and implemented such forces as the
secret police and one party rule. Thus, through initial
adaptations of the system as envisioned by its creator, the
distortion of the ideal is present even in its beginnings.
Following the first step towards communism is the
revolution that Marx predicted would ultimately occur.
However, through a revolution, especially a violent one that
Marx deemed would

the exact system that was in place before the outbreak, choosing to follow the rules with a new leader
in place. A few individuals become obsessed with power and run a dictatorship that ultimately ends in
destruction, war, and segregation. Some, such as Rick s group, chose to adapt to the new ways of life
while maintaining some of the basic authorative social structures that were in place before the
outbreak. As the series progresses, a pattern begins to develop that only one of these ways of living

In real life, humans have many traits that allow us to be considered top of the hierarchical food chain,
yet allow us to remain in classifications with animal species mammals. Humans are a highly
developed species, with abilities that surpass nearly all other animals on the planet. This being said,
this complexity allows for many conflicts to arise, as well as differing opinions on solutions. Although
humans are so evolved, some argue that animal instincts found in humans are still quite prevalent. In
The Walking Dead, the virus being embedded in everyone s brain could be a reflection of humans
inherent animalistic qualities. If we continue with this analogy, the virus could represent the potential
that every human has to become a monster (in a figurative sense in reality, or a literal sense in the
series). This furthers the idea that zombie narratives tend to mirror societies fears and anxieties over
the condition of the world, or possible events that could occur, all while placing responsibility at the
hands of humanity. Although The Walking Dead in particular does not explain the cause of the
outbreak, or blame humanity, it does reflect how humanity can take charge of the situation as well as
express moral values that humanity should strive

If Disney Ran Your Hospital
Introduction
According to Fred Lee (2004) hospitals use clinical results and process improvement as a gauge of
quality as this data can be readily measured and objective. Conversely, patients judge the quality of
care by individual perception. Therein a gap of what the patient s perception of quality care and how
the healthcare providers perceive quality of care is created. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the
Gaps Model of Service Quality while comparing the findings of the work done by Fred Lee in the
book, If Disney Ran Your Hospital: 91/2 Things You would Do Differently.

Gap One will widen if healthcare organizations primarily focus on operational issues instead of
building relationships with consumers (O Connor, Trinh , Shewchuk, 2000). An example of closing
Gap One is seen in the airline industry. A study done by Gourdin and Kloppenborg (1991) revealed
that while the airline industry perceived that providing beverage service on short flights was important
to consumers; consumers do not value this service. The study revealed that consumers saw the hurried
beverage service as an annoyance rather than a valued service.
A study was done (Deng Juin et al., 2009) to exam patient satisfaction with cosmetic Lasik surgery.
Using the SERQUAL instrument, research revealed dissatisfaction among patients having a procedure
to the empathy of the staff. The patients repeatedly committed that even though this is a cosmetic
surgery, it is still a medical procedure. The patients expressed disappointments in communication and
empathy which was an expectation of these patients. A study conducted by Young, Minnick, and
Marcantonio (1996) compared the opinions of more than a thousand staff nurses, numerous nurse
managers, and more than two thousand patients from 17 hospitals regarding certain aspects and
perceptions of patient care needs. Interestingly, staff nurse and managers

Lack Of Diversity In Higher Education
Last week I had the privilege of joining President Obama and the first lady at a White House summit
designed to spur efforts to make sure that higher education serves as an engine of upward mobility
rather than a replicator of inequality. One hundred college presidents came with formal pledges in
hand, committing time and resources to strategies to improve access and success of disadvantaged
young adults. The three heads of California s public systems all attended, including the University of
California s new system president, former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
Just weeks on the job, Napolitano was the first participant to directly and explicitly own up to the
racial undercurrent to the discussion. UC s enrollment of low income students is impressive, but the
inadequate representation of Latino and African American students is a real problem. Seeming fully in
command of the subject matter, Napolitano lamented the ripple effect this lack of diversity will have at
all colleges because of the role UC plays in preparing the future faculty members who will serve as
mentors to the next generation of students at campuses far beyond UC. ... Show more content on

Food Labeling And Consumer Associations With Health,...
Do you know what is happening with your eggs? According to Food Labeling and Consumer
Associations with Health, Safety, and Environment, as consumers become more increasingly aware of
where and how their food comes from, consumers have demanded for a larger need of labels in their
products. Labels, for the most part, give consumers insight on any given product but have evolved as a
way to mislead consumers into buying their products. This type of misleading information is easily
seen in the egg market; using labels to advertise certain aspects of their products that is considered
true throughout the industry as a whole, the use of double speak in wording regarding labels, the
labeling of certain type of eggs being perceived by consumers ... Show more content on

An increase in the price of eggs due to labels that reinforces a common practice among the whole egg
industry is problematic. Companies are taking advantage of consumers by making it seem that their
product is distinctly different than their competitors by adding a label. This label essentially raises the
price of their product, exploiting the consumers and taking their hard earned money. This system, that
puts costumers at a disadvantage for a profit, can also be seen with vague labeling.
Labels on any food product, including eggs, should be clear for consumers to understand. In many
cases, this is not accurate, companies use terms that are covered in double speak when labeling to
ensure consumers purchase their products. William Lutz defines double speak as a form of
communication that hides information and mislead the receiver of the message. In this case, the
receiver of this message are consumers. The USDA has allowed companies to use double speak in
their labels with terms that do not have a clear meanings and have a meaning that are different from
what consumers believe. For instance, When companies use the term fresh on their labels, it is not
exactly what consumers may believe. The USDA defines the term fresh for poultry as never reaching
twenty six degrees Fahrenheit but never clarifies how many days it has been on display nor when it
was slaughtered. Which means as consumers, the probability of buying a poultry

Low Voter Registration
One of the primary causes for low voter turnout in the United States is low voter registration. In order
to vote in state, local, or federal elections, citizens are required to be registered by a certain date before
the election. People can register in person, by visiting a state affiliated election facility, or by mailing
their registration forms, postmarked no later than the registration date. Additionally, only 31 states
including the District of Columbia give voters the option of registering online. Considering this fact
and that we are living in an age with great technological advances, 31 states is far too few. Hence,
New York s inability to modernize voter registration and reach out to new voters effectively lowers the
number of registered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bad news is that all of these policies need to be approved by the state legislature which
notoriously has had a track a record for stalling and not allowing many of these changes to be
implemented. For instance, in 2014 the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed legislation that
would establish 2 weeks of early voting, but the Republican controlled State Senate blocked the
legislation from passing. Similarly, the battle for same day registration in the state legislature has been
ongoing since 1988, when current Governor Andrew Cuomo s father, Mario Cuomo was the Governor
of New York and had suggested making registration deadlines as late as possible. He had also
appointed a special task force to study voter turnout and come up with a solution to resolve low voter
turnout. The special task force ultimately proposed implementing same day registration to the state
legislature. The existing power struggle between Democrats and Republicans in the state government
have made it all, but impossible for voter registration reform. However, New York s future looks
bright as there are more and more state officials speaking up and getting on board with many of the
proposed registration

How Did Louis Pasteur Contribute To Society
Between Marie Curie and Louis Pasteur I think that Louis Pasteur made more significant contributions
to society. I think this because he saved millions of lives with inventing a way to pasteurize milk. He
also found out how to cure rabies. If he hadn t made these contributions a lot of people would have
died. That is why I think Louis Pasteur made great contributions to society.
The first reason I think Louis Pasteur made more significant contributions is beacause he invented a
way to pasteurize milk. If he hadn t we might still be drinking milk that could kill us. Making milk

The Waves Of New York City Essay
The Waves of New York City

Away is a documentary about the surfing subculture in New York City that is shown through three
female surfers at Rockaway Beach.
The film was directed and produced by Elisa Bates. It was shown in many surf film festivals
including; New York Surf Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and Pop up Surf Film Festival.
There is something so spiritual about surfing. I have never surfed a day in my life but every time I
watch others surf I feel this yearning to pick up a board and join them. It looks like one of the most
dangerous but most fulfilling activities at the same time. I once read somewhere that humans are
attracted to water and enjoy being in water because 70% of our body is made up of water and at
molecular level, we crave water. When I watch surfers, I feel that it s true and that I m being pulled
into the waters from deep within myself. It s no surprise the sound of waves calms most people and
helps them to relax. We associate the sounds of the ocean with calmness so surfers are just people in
search of the ultimate mediation. Don t get me wrong, surfing is not as simple as picking up a board
and going into the ocean. It takes a lot of hard work to be able to surf and the bigger the waves, the
harder it is to surf. Surfers have to have great upper body strength, an ... Show more content on

Designing A New Low Complexity Approximation For Image...
ABSTRACT
We focus on approximate algorithms for the computation of the 8 point DCT. While not computing the
DCT exactly, approximate methods can provide meaningful estimations at low complexity
requirements. Prominent techniques include the signed discrete cosine transform (SDCT), the
Bouguezel Ahmad Swamy (BAS) series of algorithms, and the level 1 approximation by
Lengwehasatit Orteg. All above mentioned techniques possess extremely low arithmetic complexities.
These techniques have some defaults, So proposed technique is to overcome all the defaults and
performed well compare to above techniques. The aim of this correspondence is to introduce a new

elements and pixels. Pixel is most widely used to denote the elements of a digital image.
Images play the single most important role in human perception. Humans are limited to the visual
band of the electromagnetic spectrum, imaging machines cover almost the entire electromagnetic
spectrum, ranging from gamma to radio waves. They can operate on images generated by sources that
humans are not accustomed to associating with images. These include ultrasound, electron
microscopy, and computer generated images. Thus, digital image processing encompasses a wide and
varied field of applications.
Digital image processing is the use of computer algorithms to perform image processing on digital
images. Digital image processing has the same advantages over analog image processing as digital
signal processing has over analog signal processing it allows a much wider range of algorithms to be
applied to the input data, and can avoid problems such as the build up of noise and signal distortion
during processing. Image processing is a subclass of signal processing concerned specifically with

The technique was first introduced in the early 20th Century (Pearson 1901 and Hotelling 1933 cited
in Kolenikov and Angeles 2004; Krishnan 2008). It is a multivariate analysis method that is used to
transform a large number of related (correlated) variables into a smaller and parsimonious set of
orthogonal (unrelated) factors. These unrelated factors, or the principal components as they are
popularly called, are linear weighted combinations of the initial variables used in the data set. The
technique orders the components so that the first is a linear index of all the variables that accounts for
the largest amount of variation in all the variables, while the second, which is orthogonal to the first,
accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for in the first index. Each subsequent
component accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for by the preceding components
until all the variance in the original variables is accounted for. A formal definition of principal
components analysis is presented below.

Ozymandias Comparison Essay
Ode on a Grecian Urn and Ozymandias were both written in the Romantic period, and in that time
frame numerous key themes were intertwined within poems. In both of the poems the theme of
meaning of nature takes place. Additionally, within the two poems there is the discussion of mortality.
Ode on a Grecian Urn and Ozymandias contains similar topics within their poems, but with that they
are distinguished in how they are represented and the meaning of each poem.
Ode on a Grecian Urn and Ozymandias both have the theme of nature discussed within their poems. In
Ode on a Grecian Urn , John Keats portrays imagery of nature to illustrate the art on the urn. For
example, a flowery tale or leaf fring d legend . In the poem Ozymandias , Percy Shelly explains how
the sculpture is partially buried in sand in the desert. Both of the poems use nature, yet they differ in
the outcome. The Ozymandias, or other known as Rameses II, is damaged due to nature over time.

that his work would live on. In Ode on a Grecian Urn Keats describes how the illustrations painted on
the urn are everlasting. The men will never kiss the women, the pipers will always play, and the cow
will never be slaughtered. Also, Keats explains that the urn itself will remain, even after Keats time
period, When old age shall this generation waste, Thou shalt remain . These two poems share this
similar element, but are also different. Ozymandias sculpture becomes destroyed, but the urn remains

Labour Changed the Face of Britain Between the Years of...
Between 1945 and 1951 the Labour Government changed the face of Britain. Discuss.
Between the years 1945 and 1951 the entire shape of Britain s economy, society and government
changed. After World War 2, Britain was left in economic and financial depression. Countries such as
Japan and Germany, left in utter ruin from the war, ironically, were able to rebuild their economies
faster, and better than we could improve ours. It was felt that a great change was required in Britain,
and perhaps it was that feeling that led to the fall of the conservatives and the beginning of one of the
greatest governments in England s history.
The Atlee government of 45 51 has perhaps been slightly overlooked due to comparisons to the war
time leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atlee s Government, as well as creating change, also focused on other aspects of society he felt the
labour party could improve. Acts such as the Education Act of 1944 and the Family Allowance Act of
1945, were only truly implemented under Atlee s Government despite being introduced during the
war. These two laws focused on the fairness of Children s lives, compulsory and free education and
payments to Mothers who could not afford to support all of their children better known now as
Benefits .
These reforms were perhaps not a social revolution, as they did not seem to change things specifically,
rather, improve and build on what was already in existence. People of the time, although all the more
happy for it, seemed to agree that it was not a revolution. In regards to Labour changing the face of
Britain , I think, concerning The Welfare State the very fact it is still the basis , essence of our Country
s policies today, and that no party has abolished nor disputed the need for it, is testament to its
significance.
Labour brought about change in other areas too, such as the rather urgent and dyer issue of the
economy. The key issues Labour were to introduce were Nationalisation and Keynesian economics.

The big Black smiling mammy, the sexual deviant, and the angry sapphire are historically depicted
images of Black women. Within the male dominated comic art world, Deborah Whaley s Black
Women in Sequence: Re inking Comics, Graphics Novels, and Anime offer a countervision on the
Black body. Women, especially Black women may welcome this book as a confirmation about
recognizing, representing, and reframing their story. For this audience, Whaley will explore the
historical, racial, and sexual representation of Black women in sequential art pointing out the
imagined Black body through interracial relationships, African fetishism, cultural politics, financial
gains and transnationality.
Whaley deconstructs the comic art world from 1930 to the present by questioning writers , illustrators
, and readers engagement of the mutual fabrication of the black female body and the
(mis)representation of black women in sequential art. She challenges how Blackness is produced and
the absence concerning Black female characters in mainstream comics, comic book writers have used
illustrations of and ideologies about the Black female body to signify the fetish, fear, and fabrication
of Africa (p. 96). Further, she debunks the White male inventions of Blackness and constructs an
argument why sequential art is a feasible form of understanding the visual narrative that reflects
popular literature, identity politics, history, and cultural production from women of African descent. In

Christians On The Fringe Of Society
People that are on the fringe of society means that they are not apart of the popular group within
society and they are not always accepted for who they are. People such as the homeless, poor, women
and the LGBTQ+ community are all on the fringe of society. They are marginalised and they always
have to prove themselves to other people.
After Christians have received the Eucharist they become apart of God s family and must obey and
follow his teachings. They are meant to assist those people on the fringe of society by encouraging
other people to accept who they are. Christians can reach out to these people by donating to the poor,
being apart of community groups and accepting everyone into their life. In the Luke 22:7 38 The Last

battery failed. There was a sense of panic in the room. Everything froze and became quiet for a golden
three seconds. Then, chaos started. People started to run for the door. Explosions. Twenty people lie on
the floor. I spotted an opening in the rubble about one foot in diameter. It s a little small, but it will
have to do. It s now or never I thought. Come on Andre, let s go, I exclaimed. No response. I looked
back at the desk right next to mine. The one desk that has always been next to my desk. The picture of
two elderly figures on the top right of the desk. A rubber band ball with a radius of about three inches.
A computer monitor littered with sticky notes; all different colors. A cup of fifty paper clips on the far

Summary Of Zoot Suit By Luis Valdez
In the play Zoot Suit, the author Luis Valdez deals with the central theme of injustice and uncanny law
enforcement through the life of Mexican American gangster Henry Renya. Essentially, the Hispanic
38th street men, which is led by Henry, are accused of a crime they did not commit. One can
determine that they were wrongfully sentenced because of their race and their choice of clothing.
Throughout the play, Luis Valdez depicts how injustice has become a part of the life for Mexican
Americans through the portrayals of the Sleepy Lagoon Murder, their attire, misconduct during the
trial, and racism. The murder of Jose Williams to place at Sleep Lagoon in the year of 1942. When the
victim was discovered, it was as if the cops already knew who ... Show more content on

The pachucos suffered from obvious racism during the trial and it can be detected many times. A
number of times throughout the trial, the prosecution pointed to the clothing and hairstyles of the men
in order to argue his reasoning behind them being guilty. The trial was biased and was unfair to the
pachucos because of the prejudice and discrimination they faced. This case was a prime example of a
group of people being racially profiled because they were considered different from the norm . While
racism was a prominent theme throughout the play, both George and Alice were two white characters
who fought tirelessly to defend the Mexican Americans of their wrongful conviction. Therefore, the
lesson that Luis was trying to teach his audience is that sometimes people do not have the ability to
fight for themselves, which caused them to depend on others who hold that

Assess the Factors Which Led to the Creation of Itv Essay
Assess the factors which led to the creation of ITV in 1954
Commercial Television has been playing big role in our lives for about 60 years already, whether it is
the Morning News, Downton Abbey or The Britain s Got Talent show (Johnson, Turnock, 2005: 1).
Commercial television is entertaining, educating and informative and tries to fulfil viewer s wishes of
what they want to watch. British audience has been able to choose what they watch since 1954, when
government published the Act of Television which allowed the creation of the first independent
television in the United Kingdom. The creation of ITV broke the BBC s monopoly and introduced
country a new era with free market and diverse television channels (Williams, 2010:151). ... Show

Also, many senior positions in the BBC were still suspicious of the new medium of television
(Turnock, 2007:21). Lord Reith summed up the general attitude of BBC s management to television
when he told that television will be of no importance in your lifetime or mine (Williams, 2010:144).
General opinion in the BBC was that television would not become as successful as radio. As well as
BBC management, government did not find television being as important as radio. On the contrary to
the BBC s management, there were people who saw future in commercial television. One of those
people was Norman Collins who became a director general of Independent Television who left the
BBC and started to campaign commercial television (Crisell, 1997: 78). BBC s broadcasting
developing slowly because of the shortage of technical knowledge which gave a reason for
government to legitimize commercial television which would also give jobs many advertisers and
television people. Commercial television campaign was also able to persuade the government that
competition would make television better as companies had to give their best to make the viewer to
watch their channel.
Another reason which made commercial lobby successful, was the circumstance that important
members of government including the Prime Minister, Churchill, were not prepared to defend the
BBC (Curran, Seaton, 2010:154). After a change in power in late 1951, the conservative party decided
to publish its ideas for

The Taj Mahal Statue Of Liberty And Washington Monument
When one thinks about famous monumental structures, the Taj Mahal, Statue of Liberty, and
Washington Monument may come to mind. The Angkor Wat, however, is one of the largest and best
preserved monuments of the Angkor group that most do not think about. This monument was built in
the 12th century by King Suryavarman II in Angkor, which is modern day Cambodia. This monument
is the world s largest religious structure and measures to be about 400 acres. It is built entirely of
stone, which is rather unique considering the intense details that appear on every surface of this
structure. The building was originally meant to be a means of making claims to political offices more
legitimate. They also wanted the powers of their gods to be protected. Hindu temples are not a place
for religious congregation;instead; they are homes of the god (Rod). About 1,200 square meters of bas
reliefs are carved on the walls of the Angkor Wat. These bas reliefs represent eight different Hindu
stories. The Angkor Wat also has an expanded enclosed wall to separate sacred temple grounds from
the rest of the city. Early Cambodia was mostly divided into rival states up until King Jayavarman II
founded the Khmer Empire. The Khmer Empire was filled with an overwhelming amount of thriving
agriculture and most Khmers were animists. This means that they believed that many spirits contained
natural phenomenons. Much of the temples in Cambodia were made of fine stone carvings, which is
rather unique.

Essay On Burmese Pythons
Burmese Pythons: Bad for the Everglades
Have you ever seen a snake that can grow up to 23 feet long and weigh up to 200 pounds? If you have,
then you have seen a Burmese python. These pythons can grow to be the width of a sycamore tree
branch. They are native to Southeast Asia, but due to bad ownership, they are now roaming the
Everglades, unbalancing the ecosystem. The Burmese Pythons are negatively affecting the Everglades
by disrupting the food chain, causing an unsafe sport, and they are growing exponentially.

The Importance Of Being Ernest
The Importance of Being Earnest Character Analysis:
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde is mocking the Victorian society as a whole.
In a society where affirmed progress was key, it was critical for artists like Oscar Wilde and the Ozark
Actors Theatre to have a clear cut expression of the incomplete perception of life in the nineteenth
century England. Wilde s onslaught on the conduct of the current times is an effort to accomplish the
author s revelation that art has the capability to rule life, at a time when civilization measures progress
by factual research. Wilde choice to adopt the English language as the means to alter society whether
than the traditional methods or the scientific method was a bold move to go against ... Show more

Algernon s subordinate outlook of Lane also illustrates his egotistic properties. At the start of the play,
Algernon is talking to Lane about his life, but when Lane starts to say something about his life,
Algernon expresses leisurely I don t know that I am much interested in your family life... (Algernon).
As the stock characters of Algernon and Lane methodically follow the mold of master and servant in
this hilarious story, their habitual behavior evolves into the source of humor and parody. The yes sir,
no sir demeanor of Lane is blended with his profitable endeavors to gain wits with his employer,
building the tone between Algernon and Lane antagonistic. By using Lane s character, Oscar Wilde is
belittling the demeanor of the Victorian noble who consider themselves of extra importance to society.
His intelligent representation of Lane suggests there is no discrepancy in understanding between upper
and middle class individuals. OAT satirizes the upper class idea of progress by making short remarks
about the importance of reading, the effectiveness of modern education, and the emergence of social
cleverness. Jack combats social cleverness by stating that, everybody is clever now a days... (Jack) In
addressing cleverness, Oscar Wilde berates those Victorians who merely hide behind this reality of
development.
OAT s satire of the Victorian emphasis on the human quality of earnestness is the bedrock this entire
work. The title The Importance of Being Earnest is a paradox because Wilde does not have a
congruent view with Victorian society on the magnitude of the importance of being serious. The
paradox of the title embodies the satirical nature of the text. Wilde shows

Summary Of Interactive Data Visualization By Charles...
In his essay, The Re Emergence of Emotional Appeals in Interactive Data Visualization , Charles
Kostelnick compares printed data to language by noting media s limited ability to stimulate thought
and send a relatable message. Kostelnick states these two modes of messaging can evoke empathy or
fear in an audience, but for what purpose? As his essay unfolds, he makes it clear that messaging must
be multi faceted implementing color, interactive elements and animations to truly evoke a substantial
response in the viewer. This dissection seems to parallel many elements and stylistic approaches film
uses to captivate its audiences. Perhaps Kostelnick is right viral ad campaigns show that the average
consumer connects well to a message that is truly heartfelt. For example, the new Amazon Prime ad ...

Here I found parallels between his depiction of language s ability to evoke and express emotion and
the limitations that coincide with printed data expression. Kostelnick posits that if one can connect one
s audience to data in a tactile, immediate way, their emotional response will bring about engagement
and interest. Data then, like language, must collaborate with color, imagery, and the viewer s ability to
directly relate and feel empathy. Otherwise, printed data alone as with language alone simply cannot
accomplish the same level of human connection. In sum, to be effective the message needs movement,
color, and human influence. The viewer must feel that they are an active part in the data in order to
feel most connected to it. Similarly, this is the case in the viral video messaging and film of today s
world. Kostelnick may not have mentioned film in his essay, but he doesn t have to directly say it to
point out to us just how we can make data consumption a more engaging, empathy inspired action by
pulling from the ways of

Balfour Argument
The Balfour Declaration allowed for the establishment of a new Jewish national homeland called
Israel and the striping of land from the native Palestinians. Ironically, this declaration came at a time
when the idea of self determination was beginning to be recognized (Hisham, 1990). During an
address to the United States Senate in 1917, President Woodrow Wilson highlighted that:
No peace can last, or ought to last, which does not recognize and accept the principle that
governments derive all their just powers from the consent of the governed, and that no right anywhere
exists to hand people about from sovereignty to sovereignty as if they were property. (Hisham, 1990)
Unfortunately, these concepts were not applied to the inhabitants of Palestine and are the reason this
area is in constant battle. Currently, the land belonging to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many in the US view middle eastern resentment towards them a result of its position for
freedom and democracy, another factor may involve the disagreement with US foreign policy. In a
survey of 2,620 men and women living in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia, most
participants voiced hostility towards the United States because of US policy and position on the Israeli
Palestinian conflict (Munson, 2004). Although the majority of the middle eastern populations do not
wish physical harm to American citizens, their views on US policy are shared with some of the
fanatics in those areas. One Islamic extremist and organizer for the terrorist attack on 9/11, Osama Bin
Laden, cited the suffering of Palestinians as a grave injustice supported by the United States and one
of his reasons for opposition against America (Munson, 2004). Despite the fact that many other
contributors to middle eastern disapproval of US policy exist, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has
created much debate and disdain from around the

Theme Of Communication In Michael Ondaatje s In The Skin...
In Michael Ondaatje s novel, In the Skin of a Lion, there is a severe shift in tone, character morality,
and emotion when comparing the beginning to the end. After completing the novel and working to
make sense of it, I began to question what the source of all this change was and the reasoning behind
it. Through analysis, I came to the conclusion that many of the prominent characters featured in this
novel are unable to engage in what is called competent communication. To be a competent
communicator, an individual must adapt to different social settings in order for their intended message
to be both appropriate and effective for their intended audience. In Ondaatje s novel, however, most
characters lack this skill, seeing things only from their point of view, failing to ever consider others
perspectives. This results in several conflicts being left without a solution and creates a cause and
effect chain of events leading to chaos. In addition to communication incompetence, I found there to
be various other barriers in communication that include, physical, linguistic, and psychological.
Throughout this paper I will be explaining and providing evidence for why these various
communication barriers are responsible for the eventual character breakdown and excessive entropic
nature in In the Skin of a Lion. Physical barriers are those that communicate to others outside of a
certain group to stay out. Some of these barriers are obvious such as barricades, territories, doors,

Why Soccer Is Important To Me
The reason soccer is important to me is because it is the hobby i joined to win. So when I m bored I
would go outside and play soccer and call my brother to play. I really like soccer, so I spent a lot of
time playing it outside on the yard. When I play soccer I fell like I m so happy and I get excited when
I get some goals. When I got the first goal, I got so excited I couldn t believe it, and I just had a smile
all day. While I was looking up videos of soccer, I figured out that the soccer players win a lot of
money. So if I become a soccer player I could win a lot of money and at the same time I could have
fun with my favorite hobby. Now that I always play soccer when I get goals in I still get excited and it
will help our team with points.

Essay on The Marxist Ideal Cannot Work The Marxist ideal, a highly appealing, almost Utopian society, is impossible to achieve due to the fact that it demands that the human mind be almost without flaws. It asks of society and its members to be absolutely without ranks, without greed or leadership. This has been clearly impossible for society. Each step to achieving a communist establishment has been, continues to be, and will be, in actuality, a step towards the totalitarian societies of past and current so called communist countries. Communism became popular solely in under developed countries, contrary to Marx s beliefs as to what should happen, and its rise in these countries was the beginning of its fall. Marx believed that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the formation of this Communist government began the downfall of Marx s Ideal. From the very beginning, even prior to the foretold revolution, the ideal is fitted to the leaders viewpoints, which is completely opposite to what Marx had envisioned. The problem with capitalism, as Marx saw it, was that leaders were taking the lives and futures of others in their hands and using them to their advantage and this was forever escalating. As Leninist Russia progressed, Lenin guaranteed that people did not gain too much freedom and implemented such forces as the secret police and one party rule. Thus, through initial adaptations of the system as envisioned by its creator, the distortion of the ideal is present even in its beginnings. Following the first step towards communism is the revolution that Marx predicted would ultimately occur. However, through a revolution, especially a violent one that Marx deemed would ... Others chose to maintain the exact system that was in place before the outbreak, choosing to follow the rules with a new leader in place. A few individuals become obsessed with power and run a dictatorship that ultimately ends in destruction, war, and segregation. Some, such as Rick s group, chose to adapt to the new ways of life while maintaining some of the basic authorative social structures that were in place before the outbreak. As the series progresses, a pattern begins to develop that only one of these ways of living proves successful. Of course, this is Rick s method. In real life, humans have many traits that allow us to be considered top of the hierarchical food chain, yet allow us to remain in classifications with animal species mammals. Humans are a highly developed species, with abilities that surpass nearly all other animals on the planet. This being said, this complexity allows for many conflicts to arise, as well as differing opinions on solutions. Although humans are so evolved, some argue that animal instincts found in humans are still quite prevalent. In The Walking Dead, the virus being embedded in everyone s brain could be a reflection of humans inherent animalistic qualities. If we continue with this analogy, the virus could represent the potential that every human has to become a monster (in a figurative sense in reality, or a literal sense in the series). This furthers the idea that zombie narratives tend to mirror societies fears and anxieties over the condition of the world, or possible events that could occur, all while placing responsibility at the hands of humanity. Although The Walking Dead in particular does not explain the cause of the outbreak, or blame humanity, it does reflect how humanity can take charge of the situation as well as express moral values that humanity should strive ... If Disney Ran Your Hospital Introduction According to Fred Lee (2004) hospitals use clinical results and process improvement as a gauge of quality as this data can be readily measured and objective. Conversely, patients judge the quality of care by individual perception. Therein a gap of what the patient s perception of quality care and how the healthcare providers perceive quality of care is created. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the Gaps Model of Service Quality while comparing the findings of the work done by Fred Lee in the book, If Disney Ran Your Hospital: 91/2 Things You would Do Differently. Gap One will widen if healthcare organizations primarily focus on operational issues instead of building relationships with consumers (O Connor, Trinh , Shewchuk, 2000). An example of closing Gap One is seen in the airline industry. A study done by Gourdin and Kloppenborg (1991) revealed that while the airline industry perceived that providing beverage service on short flights was important to consumers; consumers do not value this service. The study revealed that consumers saw the hurried beverage service as an annoyance rather than a valued service. A study was done (Deng Juin et al., 2009) to exam patient satisfaction with cosmetic Lasik surgery. Using the SERQUAL instrument, research revealed dissatisfaction among patients having a procedure to the empathy of the staff. The patients repeatedly committed that even though this is a cosmetic surgery, it is still a medical procedure. The patients expressed disappointments in communication and empathy which was an expectation of these patients. • 7. Lack Of Diversity In Higher Education Last week I had the privilege of joining President Obama and the first lady at a White House summit designed to spur efforts to make sure that higher education serves as an engine of upward mobility rather than a replicator of inequality. One hundred college presidents came with formal pledges in hand, committing time and resources to strategies to improve access and success of disadvantaged young adults. The three heads of California s public systems all attended, including the University of California s new system president, former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Just weeks on the job, Napolitano was the first participant to directly and explicitly own up to the racial undercurrent to the discussion. UC s enrollment of low income students is impressive, but the inadequate representation of Latino and African American students is a real problem. Seeming fully in command of the subject matter, Napolitano lamented the ripple effect this lack of diversity will have at all colleges because of the role UC plays in preparing the future faculty members who will serve as mentors to the next generation of students at campuses far beyond UC. ... According to Food Labeling and Consumer Associations with Health, Safety, and Environment, as consumers become more increasingly aware of where and how their food comes from, consumers have demanded for a larger need of labels in their products. Labels, for the most part, give consumers insight on any given product but have evolved as a way to mislead consumers into buying their products. This type of misleading information is easily seen in the egg market; using labels to advertise certain aspects of their products that is considered true throughout the industry as a whole, the use of double speak in wording regarding labels, the labeling of certain type of eggs being perceived by consumers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An increase in the price of eggs due to labels that reinforces a common practice among the whole egg industry is problematic. Companies are taking advantage of consumers by making it seem that their product is distinctly different than their competitors by adding a label. This label essentially raises the price of their product, exploiting the consumers and taking their hard earned money. This system, that puts costumers at a disadvantage for a profit, can also be seen with vague labeling. Labels on any food product, including eggs, should be clear for consumers to understand. In many cases, this is not accurate, companies use terms that are covered in double speak when labeling to ensure consumers purchase their products. William Lutz defines double speak as a form of communication that hides information and mislead the receiver of the message. In this case, the receiver of this message are consumers. The USDA has allowed companies to use double speak in their labels with terms that do not have a clear meanings and have a meaning that are different from what consumers believe. For instance, When companies use the term fresh on their labels, it is not exactly what consumers may believe. The USDA defines the term fresh for poultry as never reaching twenty six degrees Fahrenheit but never clarifies how many days it has been on display nor when it was slaughtered. Which means as consumers, the probability of buying a poultry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to vote in state, local, or federal elections, citizens are required to be registered by a certain date before the election. People can register in person, by visiting a state affiliated election facility, or by mailing their registration forms, postmarked no later than the registration date. Additionally, only 31 states including the District of Columbia give voters the option of registering online. Considering this fact and that we are living in an age with great technological advances, 31 states is far too few. The bad news is that all of these policies need to be approved by the state legislature which notoriously has had a track a record for stalling and not allowing many of these changes to be implemented. For instance, in 2014 the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed legislation that would establish 2 weeks of early voting, but the Republican controlled State Senate blocked the legislation from passing. Similarly, the battle for same day registration in the state legislature has been ongoing since 1988, when current Governor Andrew Cuomo s father, Mario Cuomo was the Governor of New York and had suggested making registration deadlines as late as possible. He had also appointed a special task force to study voter turnout and come up with a solution to resolve low voter turnout. The special task force ultimately proposed implementing same day registration to the state legislature. The existing power struggle between Democrats and Republicans in the state government have made it all, but impossible for voter registration reform. The Waves Of New York City Essay The Waves of New York City Nia Scott Away is a documentary about the surfing subculture in New York City that is shown through three female surfers at Rockaway Beach. The film was directed and produced by Elisa Bates. It was shown in many surf film festivals including; New York Surf Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and Pop up Surf Film Festival. There is something so spiritual about surfing. I have never surfed a day in my life but every time I watch others surf I feel this yearning to pick up a board and join them. It looks like one of the most dangerous but most fulfilling activities at the same time. I once read somewhere that humans are attracted to water and enjoy being in water because 70% of our body is made up of water and at molecular level, we crave water. When I watch surfers, I feel that it s true and that I m being pulled into the waters from deep within myself. It s no surprise the sound of waves calms most people and helps them to relax. We associate the sounds of the ocean with calmness so surfers are just people in search of the ultimate mediation. Don t get me wrong, surfing is not as simple as picking up a board and going into the ocean. It takes a lot of hard work to be able to surf and the bigger the waves, the harder it is to surf. They can operate on images generated by sources that humans are not accustomed to associating with images. These include ultrasound, electron microscopy, and computer generated images. Thus, digital image processing encompasses a wide and varied field of applications. Digital image processing is the use of computer algorithms to perform image processing on digital images. Digital image processing has the same advantages over analog image processing as digital signal processing has over analog signal processing it allows a much wider range of algorithms to be applied to the input data, and can avoid problems such as the build up of noise and signal distortion during processing. The technique was first introduced in the early 20th Century (Pearson 1901 and Hotelling 1933 cited in Kolenikov and Angeles 2004; Krishnan 2008). It is a multivariate analysis method that is used to transform a large number of related (correlated) variables into a smaller and parsimonious set of orthogonal (unrelated) factors. These unrelated factors, or the principal components as they are popularly called, are linear weighted combinations of the initial variables used in the data set. The technique orders the components so that the first is a linear index of all the variables that accounts for the largest amount of variation in all the variables, while the second, which is orthogonal to the first, accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for in the first index. Each subsequent component accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for by the preceding components until all the variance in the original variables is accounted for. Between the years 1945 and 1951 the entire shape of Britain s economy, society and government changed. After World War 2, Britain was left in economic and financial depression. Countries such as Japan and Germany, left in utter ruin from the war, ironically, were able to rebuild their economies faster, and better than we could improve ours. It was felt that a great change was required in Britain, and perhaps it was that feeling that led to the fall of the conservatives and the beginning of one of the greatest governments in England s history. General opinion in the BBC was that television would not become as successful as radio. As well as BBC management, government did not find television being as important as radio.
