Essay about The Future of Cyborgs
The Future of Cyborgs
Terminator and Bladerunner, portrayed cyborgs or cybernetic organisms as creatures of destruction.
Are they really as horrible as the movies make them out to be? They can be more useful than
perceived; it is necessary to first perfect the technology involved in creating and operating them. In
this paper, I will describe how these cyborgs work and how they are portrayed in the movies.
Furthermore, I will explain the helpful ways that they are expected to perform in the future.
Cyborgs are a very complex creation of the future. The general concept is that they cannot be
recognized as non humans. Although it has a programmed mission, this unit thinks and reacts on its
own. The understructure is made of a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following scenes, you can see the complex design and circuitry of the cyborg. He is then blown
into many pieces, but still his intact torso claws its way toward its target. Finally, he is destroyed by a
metal stamp, which crushes him. This perseverance shows that cyborgs are very strong, nearly
indestructible creations.
In the movie Bladerunner, the cyborgs were less distinguishable from humans. The cyborgs in this
movie were referred to as replicants. They represented a computer mind implanted into a human body.
They were created to be slaves in the New World. They were designed to live only four years in
length. This was all before there was an uprising and many of them escaped. Those who did not
escape were kept under tight surveillance and lived out their four years. The others that escaped were
hunted down by the bladerunners. The reason the replicants were such a threat is that their life span
was only four years.
They plundered and killed to try to get an extension on their life. They performed all this horrible
actions in vain because there was no way to extend their life. When caught, they were retired, which
was what their execution was called. The Replicants were extremely difficult to recognize. They had
to be put through a series of tests and questions to determine if they were replicants. The key to
recognition was in the eyes. As you can see by their portrayal in these two movies, cyborgs were evil
creatures that were nearly

Storytelling Vs Storytelling
The novel is a modern, ever changing, and important tool that is utilized by different societies.
Storytelling did/does the same thing, however, and by finding the similarities between the two, it
appears to me that the novel is storytelling reborn. Theorist Walter Benjamin argues that novels have
done the opposite and have eradicated storytelling. He states that, ...the storyteller in his living
immediacy is by no means a present force. He has already become something remote from us and
something that is getting even more distant, which makes it seem as if the novel has destroyed the
sacred art of storytelling (Benjamin 77). Per contra, the novel has benefitted society just as much if not
more than storytelling. I have found that novels have taken the same tools that storytelling once used/
still use, such as open endings, re readability, community building, and more and have molded these
tools so that they are able to accomplish the same effects that storytelling can on a new scale. This
new scale simply means that the novel has taken the tools listed above and have utilized them in a way
that storytelling was unable to. The new technology that the printed novel brings not only attempts to
replicate storytelling technology but manages to do so. Thus we need to determine, first, if my
suspicions are correct and the novel has replaced or is at least vastly similar to storytelling. From
there, we can determine what it means to be a novel and what the novel can do with the

Monkeypox Virus Research Paper
The monkeypox virus belongs to Poxviridae family, which also includes cowpox, vaccinia, and
variola (smallpox) viruses. Poxviruses are the largest vertebrate viruses known, infecting humans, and
other vertebrates (species of sub family Chondropoxvirinae), and arthropods (species of sub family
Entemopoxvirinae). There are around 70 known species of pox viruses spread among 28 genera and
two sub families (the Chordopoxvirinae and the Entomopoxvirinae). The virions contain a linear
double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (dsDNA) genome and enzymes that synthesize messenger
ribonucleic acid (mRNA). They multiply in the cytoplasm of the host cells. The Chordopoxvirinae

The Theory Of Goal Attainment
In 1981 Imogene King introduced her mid range Theory of Goal Attainment (this theory has also been
referred to as the theory of goal achievement (Johnson and Webber, 2010)). This theory is based on the
grand theory called the Conceptual System, also created by King (Frey et al: 2002). To understand the
more focused mid range theory it is important to first quickly understand the conceptual system.
The conceptual system was created using systems analysis and systems theory literature (Johnson and
Webber, 2010). It was originally referred to as a conceptual framework, but King changed the
terminology in 1997 to Conceptual System (Frey et al, 2002). The conceptual system focused on
decision making in nursing. It is organized around three systems; Personal Systems which pertain to
the individual, Interpersonal Systems which pertain to small groups, and Social Systems which pertain
to the society as a whole. King saw these three interacting systems as part of the larger decision
making process of human beings (Frey et al, 2002).
The Theory of Goal Attainment is a middle range theory derived from King s Conceptual System. The
Theory of Goal Attainment focuses on the interactions between the personal, interpersonal, and social
systems. Frey et al (2002) describes the central concepts of the theory as perception, communication,
interaction, transaction, self, role, growth and development, stressors/stress, time, and space. Four
specific concepts within the theory; perception,

The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay
Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children,
especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure of
female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to time
and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental influences
capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of children.
Specifically, the connection between mother and daughter body types and eating habits, examined
both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body dissatisfaction and
negative attitudes towards food a trend that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control from
their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and
encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a lack
of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the attitudes
around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across race and
culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they hold about
their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight concern. With the
ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every corner of the globe, the
pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with their bodies does not bode
well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not, mothers inadvertently tell their
daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a source of pleasure to be enjoyed
(Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a part of their traditional role as a
mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the more important thinness becomes
for both themselves and their children.
Conversely, there has been research which places the risk of skewed body

Controversial Topics In Half-Century China
Over the past half century, a number of controversial topics have come pouring out of China, spurring
many unsettled ethical debates. Such topics range from environmental impact to the one child policy,
or the treatment of animals to the treatment of athletes and prisoners. However, one case in particular
stands out as especially unethical and immoral; that being, the persecution, torture, capital
punishment, and organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong, which translates to
Dharma Wheel Practice, follows the teachings of Li Hongzhi, drawing upon popular Buddhism and
Taoism, along with a form of Chinese meditation and exercise known as qigong. Though the practice

Jacob Kounin s Discipline And Group Management In Classroom
First, Elearn Portal,(2016) post the Kounin Mode theory of Jacob Kounin. He is recognized for two
studies concerning classroom management in the 1970 s. These readings emphasized how teachers
could manage students, lessons and classrooms to reduce the incidence of bad behaviour. This theorist
acknowledged definite teaching techniques that help, and hinder, classroom discipline. Bestowing to
Kounin, the method used, not the teacher s personality, is the most crucial aspect in classroom
management of student behaviour. The title of his book is Discipline and Group Management in
Classrooms which centres on preventive discipline. He says that, good classroom management
depends on operative lesson management. He also acknowledged a group of proactive teacher
behaviours that famed effective classroom managers from ineffective ones. These are; ripple effect,
wittiness, overlapping, effective transitions, momentum, smoothness and class management. (Higgins,
2014)

preserve instructional time by eliminating many of the common barriers to a smooth class transition.
The last that was coined by Kounin is group alerting, this is the winning the attention of the whole

Bowie claims he was moonwalking years before Michael Jackson did in 1983 s hit Billie Jean.
Choreographer Toni Basil taught him a type of moonwalk for his 1974 Diamond Dogs tour which can

a punch thrown by boyhood friend George Underwoodd over a girl, leaving it permanently dilated.

Myths on Cosmic Creation
Every person in America has a myth or conviction of truth as to how creation was formed and human
beings came into existence. The following are inclusive in creation myths, the first is the Zulu myth
found in the continent of Africa, and the other is the myth of Norse originating from Europe. Both
myths give a reason as to how creation was formed on earth. Though there are endless amounts of
ideas and vast amounts of myths to explore, the focus of these two particular myths brings fascination
to a social phenomenon.
The cycle of creation in the Zulu myth is as follows in the in text citation ( Zulu Creation , 2011):
Darkness was in the beginning accompanied by a large seed. The seed fell from heaven and the seed
produced reeds that grew called Uthlanga. One seed in particular grew into a man and his named
Unkulunkulu. He grew so large and heavy that he broke off and fell to earth. As he fell, he walked
earth with a purpose to grow other seeds into male and female. Outside of humans, Unkulunkulu
created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and male how to survive
by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire. Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon
into the world with the message that his people will live forever. As this animal took too long, his
impatience grew and a lizard sent out a message of death completing the circle of birth to death.
The introduction of creation in the Norse myth is as follows from the in text citation

movies is an escape; time to sit back and become someone else. However, once in a rare moment then
a movie comes out that is not just foe entertainment and dares to address a controversial issue. The
Blind Side and Precious are two movies that I was very surprised at my reaction to them. My reasons
for wanting to see both movies were as different as night and day. I went to see the Blind Side because
it is based on a true story and Sandra Bullock is the leading lady. Yet, Precious doesn t have a famous
leading lady, but the previews were so intense and so realistic that it pulled me in. The Blind Side and

The coloring was bleak, with Precious dream sequences being done in bright flashy colors and high
resolution (Review). For instance, the scene where Precious is at the Each One, Teach One School.
Here the colors are red, yellow, blue, and green, and as she walks down the hallway into the classroom
she dissolves, she is double exposed and the lighting turns bright, coppery and almost cloudlike. It s as
if it were saying that Precious is walking into an unknown world. There is also the scene where
Precious is standing at the top of the stairs looking down at her mother. The overhead shot, the
lighting and color were used to perfection to reflect a sense of power for Precious. Here, Precious was
finally on top . Even the scenes where she is being raped by her father and then we are looking at
pieces of meat sizzling in hot grease are representative of how Precious felt; she was just a piece of
meat. The cinematography resembles that of a documentary where the use of the camera has a
different style to give you that almost realistic feel. Its grainy look, hard zooms, and shaky angles add
an element that dramatic angles might not in order fully bring out the Precious pain and desperation
(Review). All the elements of this movie from the editing to the cinematography were superb together.
The acting, editing, music, cinematography worked beautifully together to tell one powerful story of
redemption and hope in the face of impossible obstacles

The Electronic Toll Collection in Malaysia, Questions and...
Introduction (Maximum 2 pages)
Two decades ago, the answer of the following question of possibilities of cash disappeared as a
payment method is clearly No . Cash represents as financial transaction of any products or services.
The idea of having a cashless world has been thinking long times ago.
The risks of handling cash are high compared to electronic money including toll fares. The
introduction of electronic payment system has created an opportunity for the other payment system to
be begun. It may be difficult for cash to be as payment method to complete with new emerging
payment system (Taylor, 2006).
The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in Malaysia has been introduced in the year 1994 at PLUS
Expressway. It has evolved since then many changes have been made. ETC consists of system and
device that must be used together. It is types of complementary items. To use the SmartTag, users must
have Touch n Go card. The ETC penetration has been grown steadily on June 2006. The average ETC
penetration rate nationwide is 37% and 50% for Klang Valley toll highways.
Electronic Toll Collection is a technology enabling the electronic collection of toll payments. This
system is capable of determining the car is registered or not, and then informing the authorities of toll
payment violations (Khadijah and Dr. Wahid, 2010). Example of violation that can be recorded is
exemption violation and also long journey time.
ETC is the system that offers electronics passes that can be

Grief, Loss, and Everything Josh Kos would Floss (this is not the actual title)
Grief and loss are some of the most defining characteristics of the human experience. Therefore,
dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are
many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a
healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and narrative
storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out in all of us,
just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook.
In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems. Suppressing
her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co worker Robby, her
sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in suppressing memories of her
husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an awkward limbo between her past
and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of grief leads to paranoia for Amelia.
As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a different limbo between reality and inside her
mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her situation becomes progressively worse.
Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout The
Babadook. However, while trees and

Hedda Gabler Research Paper
Freedom, over oneself or from others, is an important theme in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler. Even in her
greatest act of rebellion, suicide, Hedda Gabler is unable to find freedom. Her name means strife,
struggle, and refuge from battle. Combined with her last name, Gabler, Hedda s name is translated to
mean the strife of an individual. From the beginning, she is doomed to a life of isolation and
confinement . Although others are originally the cause of Hedda s imprisonment, eventually this
entrapment evolves into personal incarceration because others have shaped her entire life around
public image. Thus, her only view of the world is one in which social perception is priority. Because
of her upbringing, Hedda sees the world through lenses of social duty and image, and therefore
associates the two with confinement. In struggling to break free of her captivity, she sees her only out
as power over others people own people, and if one is owned the only way to free oneself is to own ...

Since discovering that Brack supposedly has the freedom, or power, that she cannot seem to have,
Hedda falls into a downward spiral, coming to the conclusion that she will never claw her way out of
the confinement in which she finds herself (need proof or is this already established?). Hedda finally
realizes once and for all that she will never be free as long as Brack has power over her and can tell
others that it was with Hedda s pistol that Løvborg shot himself. With this crippling knowledge,
Hedda realizes that freedom is not possible for her and Ibsen reveals to the reader that it is actually her
entire definition of freedom that is flawed. Hedda dies in the same way as she lived, in circumstances
similar to her childhood: her death is triggered by suffocation wrought by others. In much the same
way that he controlled her early life, in an act of cruel irony even General Gabler continues to be the
catalyst for her death: it is his pistols with which she shoots herself

Chaucer s Grecian Satire of Chivalrous Knighthood Chivalry, a honorable and noble code of conduct

Chaucer wrote the Canterbury tales in the year 1400 chivalry s light was beginning wane. And perhaps
Chaucer s story had something to do with its decline because, when Chaucer tells the Knights tail his

Critical Appreciation Of The Poem The Wanderer
Response to Literature: The Wanderer The Wander is an Elegy style poem that depicts the suffering,
exile, and memoirs of an anonymous narrator who refers to himself differently according to what part
of his life he is sharing; a Lone dweller , an Earth stepper , and the wise man and the Warrior .
Although, there is still a lot of debate on whether or not there was only one narrator throughout the
poem. The Wanderer is believed to have been created around the 5th or 6th century, being orally
handed down from generation to generation. However, it was actually written down in the 10th
century. It was then duplicated in the Exeter book, the biggest manuscript collection of Old English

warrior shortly after monologuing about his suffering and solitude. The Earth stepper´s testimony
segues into the description of the Wise man. It´s as if the narrator has goes through a short phase of

Analysis Of Avital Cohen And Tsal Essay
The article by Avital Cohen and Tsal (2016) discussed the flanker task experiment, which asserted that
distractor interference happens unconsciously as a result of focused attention toward the target. The
results from the original flanker task indicated that participants had slower responses for incongruent
trials, since the distractors are inconsistent with the target and would require a different response
(Avital Cohen Tsal, 2016). However, Avital Cohen and Tsal (2016) questioned the findings from the
flanker task experiment. They decided to challenge the idea that only the target stimuli receives top
down processing, and not the distractors (Avital Cohen Tsal, 2016). The first experiment aimed to test
whether the distractor interference is purely bottom up processing as claimed in the flanker task. The
experiment manipulated participants expectations of the target using the context effect a type of top
down processing by changing the distractors to be either letters or digits (Psych 240 lecture, 9/21/16).
Then, the researchers conducted a second experiment and eliminated the ambiguity of distractors.
They wanted to test whether the result from experiment 1 was caused by an overall bias or the
ambiguous distractors. In experiment 2, the researchers predicted that they would obtain similar
results to the first experiment only if the results were due to an overall bias effect (Avital Cohen Tsal,
2016). This study allows us to deepen our understanding of available

A Rhetorical Analysis For Geico
Rhetorical Analysis for GEICO Victor Gatdula EGL 112 Rhetorical Analysis for GEICO The GEICO,

memorable advertisements that GEICO made for their current ad campaign. The main aim of the ad is
convincing the public that moving from their original car insurance company to GEICO will save
them 15% on the insurance and as well as to saturate the airwaves with their funny and catchy
advertisements (Wikipedia, 2014). Despite the fact that the ad is eye catching, it has very many flaws.
Firstly, GEICO does not put any effort to assure the viewers that they will save the 15% or more
money by migrating (Creativity, 2014). Rhetorically, the advertisement just tries to convince the
viewers without providing them with any tangible evidence. The ad begins by a middle aged man and

Examples Of Life Lessons In The Outsiders
In the story The Outsiders, there is many life lessons that could help many people. Ranging from the
people you hang out with, to people who need your help. You should always treat people how you
want to be treated, even if that means giving something up. The main character, Ponyboy, experiences
certain events in the story that makes you realize that these kind of conflicts are a reality. Ponyboy
lives with his two brothers, Darry and Soda. Their parents died in a car crash. Ponyboy never realized
how much his parents did for him. There is a Gang that Ponyboy is involved in called the Greasers.
Their rival Gang is called the Socs. The Socs are kids that have a better upbringing and are more of
rich kids. The Greasers are basically the opposite. The theme of this story is don t take the things you
have for granted. Towards the middle of the story, a boy named Johnny had killed a Soc that was
drowning Ponyboy. He and Ponyboy fled the city to another town, and hid in an abandon church there
for a week. When they were going to leave, they realized the church was on fire and there was kids
trapped inside. Johnny and Pony were good friends and they decided to go help the children. After
they rescued the children, they had to escape the burning, ravaged building. A flaming, steaming hot
beam from the ceiling fell on Johnny. After this happened, Pony passed out, I leaped out the window
and heard timber crashing and the flames roaring right behind me. I staggered, almost

Summary Of Chivalry In The Film Excalibur
How respectful, strong and loyal are knights? People characterize knights as these three elements, but
did they actually possess these traits? Respect, strength, and loyalty are defined by the term chivalry,
in which only the noblest of knights showed. In the film Excalibur it informs watchers the life of the
great King Arthur. Arthur was one of the strongest, most honest, and bravest of all the knights in the
film. His life was a roller coaster, unknowing that the family he grew up with wasn t really his. He
became a squire who trained to become a knight and stumbled across the Excalibur in which was
stuck in a stone implanted by his father. Right as Arthur pulled the sword from the stone he became
the king. Furthermore, the film discusses major events that took place in his life. Excalibur shows
chivalry at the scenes of the round table, knights finding holy grail for king, and the battle against
Mordred.
The film first illustrates chivalry by a scene where knights sit around a round table. The type of
chivalry that this scene shows is respect. Arthur built a castle for himself and the kingdom, in which
he placed this table in the center of the castle by itself. Most tables that leaders sit at are rectangular, in
which they sit on the ends, representing that they have the most power amongst the people. However,
Arthur uses a round table to speak to his men. He does this because he respects their opinion and
wants each of the men, including himself, to have an equal amount

Money Politics And Political Godfatherism In Nigeria
Nigeria is one of the African countries that is responding to Western pressures to make its states
acquire a liberal and democratic culture. Over the years, Nigeria has practiced what can be described
as fraudulent democracy. This democracy has been characterized by obnoxious acts such as
indiscriminately using money and by very powerful and influential members of the elite class,
popularly called ‚political godfathers, imposing political leaders on the people. This situation has
already become a culture in Nigeria because many politicians who want to contest and win elections
always look for such persons to support them. This means that they no longer depend on the
electorates to win elections, but instead rely on the political godfathers. This political culture was
truncated in the 2007 gubernatorial election in Edo state, Nigeria. This paper examines how the
problem of money politics and political godfatherism can be eliminated from Nigeria s politics in
order to strengthen democratic governance in the country. The methodology of the study is essentially
analytical and based on lessons from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Money Politics and Political Godfatherism An Overview
Money politics refers to the excessive use of financial resources to encourage illegal activities or
behaviours in politics, especially during periods of election. On the other hand, political godfatherism
describes a situation in which very powerful and influential members of the elite class use their power,
money and influence to determine who should rule or occupy a given political office and who impose
these leaders on the people. The leaders are generally forced upon the masses through intimidation,
harassment and an excessive use of money. Political godfathers act as the financial backbone for
politicians who want to occupy political offices at all cost. Such political office holders usually
become tied to the apron string of their godfathers. According to Igbuzor

doing the wrapping.
Remember to keep it lovely using your soft hands. With time you and the young one will be on the
same page when it comes to sleep time.
Step 1
Get at this stage a warm and clean blanket that won t slough the little one nor be too tight. Neither
should it be too hot but simply comfortable for an infant.
Place your blanket on a flat and clean soft surface and fold it to take the shape of the triangle from one
of its corners.
Proceed to place the baby at the center slowly while keeping the shoulders just below the fold. The
neck should be along the top edge. Remember; avoid leaving any part of the blanket touching the baby

All The President s Men Essay
Freeman Redford s Acting Style, Believability and Physicality Morgan Freeman s role as Hoke in
Driving Miss Daisy and Robert Redford s role as Bob Woodward in All the President s Men both
displayed a superb acting style, provided the audience with a believable performance, and had
physicality that helped to driving their acting performance home. Morgan Freeman and Robert
Redford played their characters well. Both men allowed us as viewers to feel as if the scenes we were
watching were occurring in real life. Since both films were based around real life events, the two men
gave justice to their characters as can be seen in the dedication that they provide their characters. In
Freeman s case, he is persistent in trying to actually do his job by driving Miss Daisy around, while
Redford along with his co worker are persistent in finding out the truth about the burglary at
Watergate. Going along this framework, both men tried to do the right thing in all the situations that
they were placed in. Freeman did not feel right getting paid by Miss Daisy s son for not doing any

an African American driver to an old, conservative, Jewish woman. Freeman s character is patient,
although persistent in his quest to have Miss Daisy accept him as her personal driver. The movie spans
over twenty years, as we watch the slow changes take place in Hoke and Miss Daisy s relationship.
Robert Redford played the role of a young, and new reporter for the Washington Post, which allowed
him to create a more fast pace feeling with his character. Redford successfully allowed his character to
be persistent and have a fast pace feeling as can be seen with the little time that is wasted in finding

Differences In American Culture
Throughout the different cultures around the world, there are many traditions that have been in place
for many years. These traditions have been passed down from generation to generation and are looked
at as being normal in these cultures. To the United States, and other parts of the world, some of these
traditions are looked at as being crazy, bizarre, and even strange. There are many different cultures and
unique traditions associated with them, but these are 5 interesting traditions found around the world.
Philippians
In America, children are raised to respect their elders from an early age and this is generally the same
around the world. In the Philippians however, they practice the tradition of Pagmamano. Pagmamano
is a gesture that symbolizes respect for one s elders. It is akin to bowing, with the addition of taking an
elder s hand and pressing it to one s forehead. Americans usually understand to show their elders
respect, but the tradition of Pagmamano shows an actual sign of respect to the elder. This is a very
explicit sign of respect and would show why the Philippian culture treats their elders the way they do.

though, do not practice this tradition at all. In Greece and Mauritania, a child does not simply leave his

first event of the morning was the hurt man rescue. For this event, the time starts when I first touch my
climbing gear and time ends when the 185 lbs. manikin touches the ground. The time limit for this
event was four minutes which I completed it in one minute and ten seconds with no deductions for
safety violations. After the completion of my first event I was feeling good about the day. From there,
my second and third events went really well, good times with no deductions. My fourth event was a
knot tying event. I did exceptionally well in that event, beating my other competitors by two minutes
or so. My last event was a streetlight and photo cell change out. I was a little nervous and the pressure
was on because I knew that I had done good all day and had a good possibility to place in the
competition and get on stage for a trophy; which would be an amazing experience for my last rodeo as

Southern Frontier Of Livonia Summary
William Urban in his journal article focuses on the southern frontier in Livonia. He implies that the
eastern frontier had little need for defense from invading pagans as it was patrolled by Russian
Christians, and it was protected by the sea. However, the southern frontier was prone to pagan raiders
who use traditional tactics, by attacking by surprise, taking women and children for slaves, and of
course killing the men. The tactics used by the invading pagan tribes were also utilized by the
crusaders. Initially the crusaders thought they could conquer the pagan tribes, but that failed. They
began a process of building castle to establish a line of defense. Urban, notes that no line of castles
ever blocked an attack. However, they do provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only the most respected and experienced commanders were put in charge of the territorial defenses.
Advocate leaders of the local militia shared duties with the commanders. Local politics were
controlled by the priests and the native elders. The building of the castles was funded by collecting
local taxes and from gifts from the German state. The collection of taxes had a negative impact on the
native population, as some reestablished themselves with as Latvian people. The author suggests that
based upon the services required and the establishment of the castle defense, and a communal
infrastructure we may need to reevaluate our thinking towards the knights, as they were just following
policies. Urban s text is useful because it does show the Teutonic Knights as being caring and
nurturing to the native people. It does seem to be a biased accounting of the events. However, based
upon his interpretation of his sources the author is not necessarily leading the reader, but gentle
nudging them to look at the Teutonic Knights the doers of good. The article is helpful, because as the
author intended the reader does begin to understand the knights were not just killing machines, they
were in an area that they invaded, but they were willing to aid in the defense of the native population
from pagan

A few weeks after my catch at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I decided that I wanted a
Charolais. I shared this with my Ag teacher Mr. Hill and my donor Mr. Ligon. Most of the month of
April was spent waiting for Mr. Hill to find a steer in my price range. During the waiting period I
spent a lot of time educating myself on steer selection, feeding, halter breaking and grooming. Since I
have never been around steer before, I left the selection up to Mr. Hill. Mr. Hill is an expert in
determining the structural correctness, definition, balance, set of hock, and frame size. The first order
of business was setting up the pin by disinfecting the floor, laying cedar bedding, purchasing feed and
water buckets, and hanging a hay stack. With all this done, the pin was ready for my new project. On
Monday April 24th, Mr. Hill asked me to meet him at the barn to look at three steer he purchased and

This book touched me profoundly. I grew up without my father and met him when I was 20 years old.
Meeting him was very challenging for me because I was consumed with so much anger and I blamed
him for not being there for me. In reading this book I am able to realize that we do not always get to
choose the path we walk down and sometimes life s circumstances shape the people we become, for
better or worse. This book has made me want to give my own father a chance to explain to me what
his life has been like, so that I might have a better understanding of who he is. As I continue my
journey through school, I am better able to assess individuals and situations and have a level of
empathy without being judgmental. As children we often feel like we know who our parents are but
there are so many unanswered questions and hidden lives that it makes it difficult for children to relate
to their parents. Each of our paths has impacted us in both negative or positive ways and being able to
understand that this affects the decisions that we make can make unpleasant situations a bit easier to
digest. Seeing how Rita felt closer to her father as an adult once she got to know him, makes me feel
like there is still hope for my father and I. If Rita s father would have received help for the trauma he
had gone through I believe he could have been a better father to Rita while she was growing up.

Defining An Adult
Society s definition of an adult can and is very controversial, because society says a person is an adult
when that individual reaches the age of eighteen, which is the legal age. The definition that society
gives is controversial because, if an individual is not looked at as an adult until the age of eighteen, but
can be tried in court at the age of sixteen and up. Societies definition falls apart at this point. Basically,
what society is telling us that a person who is out in the world committing adult level crimes if this

The human brain finishes developing at the age of twenty five. Just because some individual stops
growing physically between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, does not mean that they are adult ready.
Society thinks that at eighteen you are ready to face the world at eighteen, society is wrong. At
eighteen you do not have all the skills needed to be an adult, most importantly the individual is not
biologically ready. The individual is not mature enough to be considered biologically ready for
adulthood. To have the maturity level if an adult, a person needs to understand the difference from
right and wrong, can defend themselves appropriately, cannot let things get to them to make them mad
or over react. This is something that society really does not care about, if the person is biologically
ready to be an adult. A lot of the people who are considered adults today are still in high school or in
their first year of college, those individuals are out here making the same teenage immature mistakes
that anyone else is making. Although a person is making childish mistakes and even though this
individual knows that they are not ready to be an adult they are still considered an adult because well
they meet society s adult standards. Most individuals do not obtain the most important thing about
being biologically ready which is maturity until the age of twenty five when their brain is done

Food Waste Essay
There are countless issues that pose danger to the environmental health of the Earth, but one of the
most often overlooked problems is food waste. Food waste contributes to droughts as well as other
serious economic and climate ramifications. However, there are many things that can be done to
resolve this pressing issue.
The issue of food waste is one that many people might not consider to be serious, but it is critical to
the environment that a solution is devised. Fortunately, there are many simple things that people all

An article published by NPR quotes Craig Hansen, a big voice in the food waste crisis. The article
states; For instance, he says, the moisture in food lost immediately post harvest or during open storage
will likely evaporate. In other words, that water ends up back in the atmosphere. But that doesn t mean
it ll return to the place from whence it came. Now that food is crisscrossing the globe, the water
stressed regions that produce fruits and vegetables aren t necessarily going to get their water back.
This highlights the danger in irresponsible food waste; there will be serious consequences to the
already limited freshwater supply on Earth if the problem is not resolved in a timely fashion.
It isn t just regular citizens that are negatively affecting the Earth s environmental health, restaurants
and other corporations have a dramatic impact on the food waste crisis. Generally speaking, food
waste is a bigger issue in developed countries, although developing countries with harsh weather and
climates also contribute to the issue. Eliza Barclay writes; In rich countries, by contrast, most food
waste happens further along the food distribution chain in homes and restaurants, for example.
Restaurants and the citizens who eat at them also have a considerable influence on the crisis as well.
For example, a group of people enter a restaurant and order a hefty amount of food and drink. After

In repetitive service operations, efficiencies can be gained by standardization. Standardization
increases the total quantity that can be produced from a single or limited amount of items. This also
tends to increase productivity because of less complexity of each job and because workers learn to do
their jobs more efficiently with increased repetition. CKC has a relatively simple menu and also
limited inventory space to carry numerous items anyhow, so the simple and limited menu allows for
some standardization. Also, as previously mentioned, CKC has five major separate work stations, each
repetitively performing its own task or process. These processes at each of these stations are
repeatable and therefore conducive to standardization. According to our book, the role of workers is
elevated in a lean system. Lean systems require a flexible workforce. Workers in flexible workforces
can be trained to perform more than one job. A primary benefit of this is that workers can be moved
from one workstation to another to help relieve bottlenecks should they arise. Also, if an employee is
out sick or on vacation, another employee can step in for them to keeps product flow moving. Uniform
flow is an important aspect of lean systems. CKC has 10 full time employees and all, except the
cooks, are flexible and can move from station to station if needed. Companies using lean systems

Essay On Stop And Frisk
Gun violence has been a great issue in America throughout the years. Although there are many
procedures and regulations that attempt to keep gun control in effect, it has not been enough to
completely rid unlawfully owned weapons and its violence. One of these procedures is known as stop
and frisk, which means to stop a person and thoroughly pat down their outer clothing if the person is
suspected to be armed and dangerous. This procedure is often used by police officers when attempting
to confiscate illegal weapons. But many question if stop and frisk alone is an effective and acceptable

additions to the stop and frisk procedure needs to occur if law enforcements wants to rid the streets of
illegal weapons. Wilson says in his article, But if we are serious about reducing drive by shootings,
fatal gang wars and lethal quarrels in public places, we must get illegal guns off the street. We cannot
do this by multiplying the forms one fills out at gun shops or by pretending that guns are not a

also has gained many abilities that people do not have, due to his experience in the concentration
camp. Shukhov shows emotional, physical, and moral strength throughout this book. I believe this
alone makes him a hero. In analyzing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
169) Another example of Shukhov s emotional strength was at the end of his day, he was content and
happy. This was only because he accomplished small tasks such as getting extra food for dinner,
making a wall, and not being put in the cooler. It is so hard to imagine actually being completely
happy about things like this. In my opinion this is heroic. Shukhov s crafty skills and physical strength
also are heroic traits that are displays throughout the book. He thinks of things in a different
perspective than most of the other prisoners in the camp. He has a systematic way of thinking about
everything he does. For example, when he saw the chunk of metal in the snow. He didn t have any
specific need for it at the time he found it, but he thought maybe it could be useful to him at another
time. He was also always doing little tasks to help other prisoners in the camp, while at the same time
looking out for himself. This shows that Shukhov knows what it takes to survive in the camps. He also
thinks this way when he is working. Shukhov states: If your working for human beings, then do a real
job of it, but if you work for dopes, then you just go through the motions. (p. 14) He knows how to do
enough work to stay alive, and no more. This is a heroic trait that most of the other prisoners didn t
have.
Ivan Denisovich Shukhov is not a romantic hero, he doesn t fix things or rescue people. He is a man of
great interior strength and courage.

Why I Want To Be An Iowa Essay
When I think of Iowa, I think of the words: community, hardworking, and home. Iowa has always
been a very oriented state, and that keeps people around. Iowa is filled with hard working men and
women who want to make a good living for their families, and set good examples for their children.
All of the hard working people belong to a community of some sort, because that is what Iowa is, one
big community. There is so much more to Iowa than what others see. Iowa should not only be
perceived as a state that just grows corn or is full of farmers, but as a state that is filled with many kind
independent workers who thrive to make a difference in their communities.
Being an Iowan means that you will always be part of a community. Not only a community where a
select few people know your name, but a community where everyone knows your name, and even a
little about your background. Whenever you are feeling lonely, you can easily go for a walk and pass
around twenty people that you know. If anything were to ever go wrong, you know that you ... Show

I take pride in saying that I am from Iowa, because Iowa has a strong family and community values. I
was raised in Bellevue, Iowa and it was important that I learned small town values and how to be part
of a community. Just like many other cities in Iowa, Bellevue is very good at welcoming new
members into our community. For a small town, Bellevue offers many activities and groups that keep
everyone involved. I have always been a very family orientated girl and to me, that is what Iowa
stands for. I was given the opportunity to go and visit Empire Beauty School in Philadelphia, I turned
it down immediately because I could not imagine leaving Iowa, especially at such a young age. As
great as that school is, I was not ready to leave my family. Iowa creates strong family bonds and that is
why many who are raised in Iowa, rarely move

You Cant Cross The Sea Merely By Standing And Staring At...
When Rabindranath Tagore states You can t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water,
he is suggesting that you can t achieve your life goals just by thinking and hoping about them. You
actually have to work very hard and try to achieve that goal. The author is claiming that you actually
need to work for your goals. For example the Everest climbers had a lot to risk and a lot to lose but
they still climbed the mountain anyway because they knew that they wouldn t get to the top of that
mountain just from hoping they would get carried up there.
This quote relates to extreme sports because if you want to do an extreme sport really badly like going
wingsuit flying you can t just look at the helicopter take off to drop the people. You actually have to
want to jump out of that helicopter and take the risk yourself. As we see in the in the article, A Solemn
Warning to Wingsuit Flyers , that a man named Geoffrey Robson died due to wingsuit flying. But that
man new the risks of the sport and he took it anyway, because he didn t want to be the one that stares
at the ocean hoping he crossed it. He wanted to be the one who crossed it before the other guy got
there to stare at it even if it meant he was risking his life to do so. ... Show more content on

For instance so many people today want to be some really big job yet they aren t trying in the subject
that they want to be when they grow up. Henst the point that they are just looking at what they want to
be when they grow up rather than actually trying to be what they want to be. I have also had personal
experience with this quote. I used to want to have good grades and i never tried for it. I just thought
eventually i would get the grade even though i wasn t trying. This personal experience of mine shows
that you actually do need to work in life and not screw around to achieve your

  • 2. Essay about The Future of Cyborgs The Future of Cyborgs Terminator and Bladerunner, portrayed cyborgs or cybernetic organisms as creatures of destruction. Are they really as horrible as the movies make them out to be? They can be more useful than perceived; it is necessary to first perfect the technology involved in creating and operating them. In this paper, I will describe how these cyborgs work and how they are portrayed in the movies. Furthermore, I will explain the helpful ways that they are expected to perform in the future. Cyborgs are a very complex creation of the future. The general concept is that they cannot be recognized as non humans. Although it has a programmed mission, this unit thinks and reacts on its own. He is then blown into many pieces, but still his intact torso claws its way toward its target. Finally, he is destroyed by a metal stamp, which crushes him. This perseverance shows that cyborgs are very strong, nearly indestructible creations. In the movie Bladerunner, the cyborgs were less distinguishable from humans. The cyborgs in this movie were referred to as replicants. They represented a computer mind implanted into a human body. They were created to be slaves in the New World. They were designed to live only four years in length. This was all before there was an uprising and many of them escaped. Those who did not escape were kept under tight surveillance and lived out their four years. The others that escaped were hunted down by the bladerunners. The reason the replicants were such a threat is that their life span was only four years. They plundered and killed to try to get an extension on their life. They performed all this horrible actions in vain because there was no way to extend their life. When caught, they were retired, which was what their execution was called. The Replicants were extremely difficult to recognize. They had to be put through a series of tests and questions to determine if they were replicants. The key to recognition was in the eyes. As you can see by their portrayal in these two movies, cyborgs were evil creatures that were nearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Storytelling Vs Storytelling The novel is a modern, ever changing, and important tool that is utilized by different societies. Storytelling did/does the same thing, however, and by finding the similarities between the two, it appears to me that the novel is storytelling reborn. Theorist Walter Benjamin argues that novels have done the opposite and have eradicated storytelling. He states that, ...the storyteller in his living immediacy is by no means a present force. He has already become something remote from us and something that is getting even more distant, which makes it seem as if the novel has destroyed the sacred art of storytelling (Benjamin 77). Per contra, the novel has benefitted society just as much if not more than storytelling. I have found that novels have taken the same tools that storytelling once used/ still use, such as open endings, re readability, community building, and more and have molded these tools so that they are able to accomplish the same effects that storytelling can on a new scale. This new scale simply means that the novel has taken the tools listed above and have utilized them in a way that storytelling was unable to. The new technology that the printed novel brings not only attempts to replicate storytelling technology but manages to do so. Thus we need to determine, first, if my suspicions are correct and the novel has replaced or is at least vastly similar to storytelling. From there, we can determine what it means to be a novel and what the novel can do with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Theory Of Goal Attainment In 1981 Imogene King introduced her mid range Theory of Goal Attainment (this theory has also been referred to as the theory of goal achievement (Johnson and Webber, 2010)). This theory is based on the grand theory called the Conceptual System, also created by King (Frey et al: 2002). To understand the more focused mid range theory it is important to first quickly understand the conceptual system. The conceptual system was created using systems analysis and systems theory literature (Johnson and Webber, 2010). It was originally referred to as a conceptual framework, but King changed the terminology in 1997 to Conceptual System (Frey et al, 2002). The conceptual system focused on decision making in nursing. It is organized around three systems; Personal Systems which pertain to the individual, Interpersonal Systems which pertain to small groups, and Social Systems which pertain to the society as a whole. King saw these three interacting systems as part of the larger decision making process of human beings (Frey et al, 2002). The Theory of Goal Attainment is a middle range theory derived from King s Conceptual System. The Theory of Goal Attainment focuses on the interactions between the personal, interpersonal, and social systems. Frey et al (2002) describes the central concepts of the theory as perception, communication, interaction, transaction, self, role, growth and development, stressors/stress, time, and space. The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children, especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure of female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to time and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental influences capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of children. Specifically, the connection between mother and daughter body types and eating habits, examined both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body dissatisfaction and negative attitudes towards food a trend that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control from their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a lack of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the attitudes around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across race and culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they hold about their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight concern. With the ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every corner of the globe, the pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with their bodies does not bode well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not, mothers inadvertently tell their daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a source of pleasure to be enjoyed (Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a part of their traditional role as a mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the more important thinness becomes for both themselves and their children. The following are inclusive in creation myths, the first is the Zulu myth found in the continent of Africa, and the other is the myth of Norse originating from Europe. Both myths give a reason as to how creation was formed on earth. Though there are endless amounts of ideas and vast amounts of myths to explore, the focus of these two particular myths brings fascination to a social phenomenon. The cycle of creation in the Zulu myth is as follows in the in text citation ( Zulu Creation , 2011): Darkness was in the beginning accompanied by a large seed. The seed fell from heaven and the seed produced reeds that grew called Uthlanga. One seed in particular grew into a man and his named Unkulunkulu. He grew so large and heavy that he broke off and fell to earth. As he fell, he walked earth with a purpose to grow other seeds into male and female. Outside of humans, Unkulunkulu created animals, mountains, lakes, and the sun and moon. He taught female and male how to survive by imparting agriculture to grow things, how to hunt, and make fire. Unkulunkulu sent a chameleon into the world with the message that his people will live forever. Therefore, dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and narrative storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out in all of us, just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook. In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems. Suppressing her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co worker Robby, her sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in suppressing memories of her husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an awkward limbo between her past and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of grief leads to paranoia for Amelia. As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a different limbo between reality and inside her mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her situation becomes progressively worse. Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout The Babadook. However, while trees and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even in her greatest act of rebellion, suicide, Hedda Gabler is unable to find freedom. Her name means strife, struggle, and refuge from battle. Combined with her last name, Gabler, Hedda s name is translated to mean the strife of an individual. From the beginning, she is doomed to a life of isolation and confinement . Although others are originally the cause of Hedda s imprisonment, eventually this entrapment evolves into personal incarceration because others have shaped her entire life around public image. Thus, her only view of the world is one in which social perception is priority. Because of her upbringing, Hedda sees the world through lenses of social duty and image, and therefore associates the two with confinement. Analysis Of Avital Cohen And Tsal Essay The article by Avital Cohen and Tsal (2016) discussed the flanker task experiment, which asserted that distractor interference happens unconsciously as a result of focused attention toward the target. The results from the original flanker task indicated that participants had slower responses for incongruent trials, since the distractors are inconsistent with the target and would require a different response (Avital Cohen Tsal, 2016). However, Avital Cohen and Tsal (2016) questioned the findings from the flanker task experiment. They decided to challenge the idea that only the target stimuli receives top down processing, and not the distractors (Avital Cohen Tsal, 2016). The first experiment aimed to test whether the distractor interference is purely bottom up processing as claimed in the flanker task. The experiment manipulated participants expectations of the target using the context effect a type of top down processing by changing the distractors to be either letters or digits (Psych 240 lecture, 9/21/16). Then, the researchers conducted a second experiment and eliminated the ambiguity of distractors. They wanted to test whether the result from experiment 1 was caused by an overall bias or the ambiguous distractors. • 25. Summary Of Chivalry In The Film Excalibur How respectful, strong and loyal are knights? People characterize knights as these three elements, but did they actually possess these traits? Respect, strength, and loyalty are defined by the term chivalry, in which only the noblest of knights showed. In the film Excalibur it informs watchers the life of the great King Arthur. Arthur was one of the strongest, most honest, and bravest of all the knights in the film. His life was a roller coaster, unknowing that the family he grew up with wasn t really his. He became a squire who trained to become a knight and stumbled across the Excalibur in which was stuck in a stone implanted by his father. Right as Arthur pulled the sword from the stone he became the king. Furthermore, the film discusses major events that took place in his life. Excalibur shows chivalry at the scenes of the round table, knights finding holy grail for king, and the battle against Mordred. The film first illustrates chivalry by a scene where knights sit around a round table. The type of chivalry that this scene shows is respect. Arthur built a castle for himself and the kingdom, in which he placed this table in the center of the castle by itself. Most tables that leaders sit at are rectangular, in which they sit on the ends, representing that they have the most power amongst the people. However, Arthur uses a round table to speak to his men. He does this because he respects their opinion and wants each of the men, including himself, to have an equal amount ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Money Politics And Political Godfatherism In Nigeria Nigeria is one of the African countries that is responding to Western pressures to make its states acquire a liberal and democratic culture. Over the years, Nigeria has practiced what can be described as fraudulent democracy. This democracy has been characterized by obnoxious acts such as indiscriminately using money and by very powerful and influential members of the elite class, popularly called ‚political godfathers, imposing political leaders on the people. This situation has already become a culture in Nigeria because many politicians who want to contest and win elections always look for such persons to support them. This means that they no longer depend on the electorates to win elections, but instead rely on the political godfathers. This political culture was truncated in the 2007 gubernatorial election in Edo state, Nigeria. This paper examines how the problem of money politics and political godfatherism can be eliminated from Nigeria s politics in order to strengthen democratic governance in the country. The leaders are generally forced upon the masses through intimidation, harassment and an excessive use of money. To the United States, and other parts of the world, some of these traditions are looked at as being crazy, bizarre, and even strange. There are many different cultures and unique traditions associated with them, but these are 5 interesting traditions found around the world. In the Philippians however, they practice the tradition of Pagmamano. Pagmamano is a gesture that symbolizes respect for one s elders. He implies that the eastern frontier had little need for defense from invading pagans as it was patrolled by Russian Christians, and it was protected by the sea. However, the southern frontier was prone to pagan raiders who use traditional tactics, by attacking by surprise, taking women and children for slaves, and of course killing the men. The tactics used by the invading pagan tribes were also utilized by the crusaders. Initially the crusaders thought they could conquer the pagan tribes, but that failed. They began a process of building castle to establish a line of defense. Urban, notes that no line of castles ever blocked an attack. However, they do provide ... I was raised in Bellevue, Iowa and it was important that I learned small town values and how to be part of a community. He wanted to be the one who crossed it before the other guy got there to stare at it even if it meant he was risking his life to do so. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
