How to Use the Phone to
Grow Your MLM Business

Why Most MLM Reps Don’t Use the Phone
• Why don’t more MLM reps use the phone? One word. FEAR.
• Although most people talk on their phone at least 1-2 hours per day,
most MLM reps are scared to death to call their prospects, even if
they are people they already know. Why?
• The fear failure or they fear being rejected. Or, they fear what
others might think.
• The new rep doesn’t want to look dumb.
• Some people think this method is outdated or doesn’t work.
• The new person is distracted by the sexiness of the internet.
The Benefits of Using the Phone
• You can knock out more stuff in a two-minute phone call than you can
in hours texting back and forth with a prospect (or emailing them).
• When you chat with someone on the phone, you can hear their TONE
OF VOICE and you might even be able to figure out their body
language.
• Talking on the phone let’s you connect with the other person, more
so than if you were just texting or emailing.
• It’s easier and quicker to convey your ideas by phone.
• It’s much more efficient than other communication strategies (email,
text, Facebook, etc.)
The Three-Way Call
• This is the most powerful recruiting tool you have in network
marketing, other than your own personal story.
• This is when you, your prospect, and your coach or mentor are on the
phone at the same time.
• Leverage someone in your upline to help you do three-way calls with
you and your prospects. All you have to do is listen in and learn from
hearing your mentor talk with your prospect.
• Even if you are a great recruiter, you should utilize three-way calls, so
your prospect doesn’t think THEY have to be a phone expert to
succeed in the business.
How to Overcome Your Phone Fears
• Plan time to make calls.
• Believe in what you are offering others.
• Have your mentor listen in and provide feedback.
• Keep track of your statistics.
• Don’t take things personal.
Tips for Success Using the Phone
• Watch a few YouTube videos on phone selling.
• Read a few books on the topic.
• Ask successful people in your upline who are great on the phone if they will
mentor you.
• Practice, Practice, Practice.
• Meet people online, but then take the conversation offline (to the phone)
as quickly as possible.
• Listen to several leaders in your team make calls. Listen to what they say,
how they respond, their posture and language, etc.
• Pick a number every day and have the discipline to make that many calls,
regardless of your results.
My Favorite Phone Strategy
• Make a decision to call 10-20 prospects per day. If they answer their phone,
talk with them. If they are not home, leave a voicemail using the same
script.
• After you do that, send each person an email telling them to check their
answering machine. If you talked to them, just email the key points of your
conversation.
• If you do this, a couple things will happen. Most people will NOT call you
back, BUT the interested ones will. This lets you sift and sort and screen
your prospects.
• You could literally do this strategy in less than an hour a day. Do it five days
a week for a year and you will contact 2,600 to 5,200 prospects about your
business. With that many exposures, you can’t lose!

• Pick a number and call that many new prospects every day.
• Leverage the three-way call whenever you can.
• Educate yourself about phone selling so you can improve your skills.
• Realize that action cures fear!

  • 2. Why Most MLM Reps Don’t Use the Phone • Why don’t more MLM reps use the phone? One word. FEAR. • Although most people talk on their phone at least 1-2 hours per day, most MLM reps are scared to death to call their prospects, even if they are people they already know. Why? • The fear failure or they fear being rejected. Or, they fear what others might think. • The new rep doesn’t want to look dumb. • Some people think this method is outdated or doesn’t work. • The new person is distracted by the sexiness of the internet.
  • 3. The Benefits of Using the Phone • You can knock out more stuff in a two-minute phone call than you can in hours texting back and forth with a prospect (or emailing them). • When you chat with someone on the phone, you can hear their TONE OF VOICE and you might even be able to figure out their body language. • Talking on the phone let’s you connect with the other person, more so than if you were just texting or emailing. • It’s easier and quicker to convey your ideas by phone. • It’s much more efficient than other communication strategies (email, text, Facebook, etc.)
  • 4. The Three-Way Call • This is the most powerful recruiting tool you have in network marketing, other than your own personal story. • This is when you, your prospect, and your coach or mentor are on the phone at the same time. • Leverage someone in your upline to help you do three-way calls with you and your prospects. All you have to do is listen in and learn from hearing your mentor talk with your prospect. • Even if you are a great recruiter, you should utilize three-way calls, so your prospect doesn’t think THEY have to be a phone expert to succeed in the business.
  • 5. How to Overcome Your Phone Fears • Plan time to make calls. • Believe in what you are offering others. • Have your mentor listen in and provide feedback. • Keep track of your statistics. • Don’t take things personal.
  • 6. Tips for Success Using the Phone • Watch a few YouTube videos on phone selling. • Read a few books on the topic. • Ask successful people in your upline who are great on the phone if they will mentor you. • Practice, Practice, Practice. • Meet people online, but then take the conversation offline (to the phone) as quickly as possible. • Listen to several leaders in your team make calls. Listen to what they say, how they respond, their posture and language, etc. • Pick a number every day and have the discipline to make that many calls, regardless of your results.
  • 7. My Favorite Phone Strategy • Make a decision to call 10-20 prospects per day. If they answer their phone, talk with them. If they are not home, leave a voicemail using the same script. • After you do that, send each person an email telling them to check their answering machine. If you talked to them, just email the key points of your conversation. • If you do this, a couple things will happen. Most people will NOT call you back, BUT the interested ones will. This lets you sift and sort and screen your prospects. • You could literally do this strategy in less than an hour a day. Do it five days a week for a year and you will contact 2,600 to 5,200 prospects about your business. With that many exposures, you can’t lose!
  • 8. Closing Thoughts • The phone is your friend. • Use it whenever you can. • Pick a number and call that many new prospects every day. • Leverage the three-way call whenever you can. • Educate yourself about phone selling so you can improve your skills. • Realize that action cures fear!
