John 3:1-5. A New Life In Christ. In the new life we have been born again. In the new life we are a new creation. In the new life we crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. In the new life we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. In the new life we are renewed by the Holy Spirit. In the new life we are dead to sin but alive to God. In the new life we are washed from our sins. in the new life we put to death the old man and put on the new man. In the new life we died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. In the new life we were brought back from death in sin.

Hebrews 4:11-13 God's Word: Produces faith, cleanses us, brings reconciliation, tells us how to be saved, blesses us, answers life's questions, solves life's problems, helps us weather life's storms, tells us what is right and wrong, produces fruit in our lives, will judge us.
Someone very wise has said, “You don;t know what you believe until you have to.” Few things tell us more about ourselves or about what we believe about God than tough times.
Everyone has or will face tough times. This message of timeless biblical truths will refresh our minds and hearts no matter where we are in life, especially if we are in a storm so dark and confusing that we feel somewhat helpless to rescue ourselves. If that is you, relax. Our Heavenly Father is already working to make that situation turn out for your good in some mysterious but wonderful way. This is what this message is all about.
Beth starts off the message with a real illustration of how good God is from her life last week!

In the beginning when God created the heaven and the earth, He gave to man a day of rest. He sanctified the seventh day and made it holy. This means that it is set apart or separated from the other days of the week, for the worship and praise of God. It was God our creator, Lord and master, who determined which day that he wanted us to remember and keep holy. No man was ever given the authority to change the law of God or to make the first day of the week the Sabbath.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Objective of lesson
1. To define sin.
2. To show how sin develops.
3. Ask and answer why we choose
sin.
4. To show how we overcome it!
3. Sin defined
• Sin (Heb. Hattat)—that which
is an offense against a
standard. To miss a mark or
goal, to fail, to wrong, to
offend. A failure to fulfill the will
of God. And that is to love (Ref:
1 John 4:8)
• Judges 20:16 Out of all these
people 700 choice men were
left-handed; each one could
sling a stone at a hair and not
miss.
4. How sin develops
• >>>>>> James 1:14-15 <<<<<<
1. The first stage is “temptation”
A. Desire or lust, a strong longing for
something!
B. Enticement, an opportunity and
encouragement to satisfy the desire or longing
for something!
C.Temptation = Desire + Opportunity
5. How sin develops
•2. The second stage is “sin” itself
A. When desire or lust has conceived it gives
birth to sin (Ref. James 1:15).
B. It becomes sin when we act and yield to the
temptation. Remember all this first takes
place in the mind!
C. When we fail to take captive our thoughts,
we sin! (Ref: 2 Cor. 10:5 & Matt. 5:27-28)
6. How sin develops, illustrated
Romans 13:14; 1 Corinthians 10:16, Galatians 5:16 &
24
8. Why do we choose sin?
• A failure to remember the
words of God and heed them!
• Luke 22: 54-62
• Vs 61 —And Peter
remembered!
• When we fail to remember the
high cost of sin, it becomes
easy to give into temptation.
• Psalm 119:15 I will meditate
on Your precepts and have
respect unto your ways.
9. Why do we choose sin?
•When we don’t listen
to our conscience!
•John 8:9
•Acts 23:1 & 24:16
•Romans 2:15
10. Why do we choose sin?
✓ When we fail to love
God and give into our
desires or lust!
✓ John 14:15, 21, 23
✓ John 15:10, 12, 13, 17
✓ 1 John 2:15-17
✓ 1 John 5:2-3
11. How we overcome sin
• We must first believe we can overcome sin and that sin
is a choice. (Ref: Revelation 1:5 & 3:21)
• Our goal in life must be to do HIS will and not ours at all
times. (Ref: Psalms 40:7-8 & Hebrews 10:5-7)
• Remember who it is that is tempting us and what he
desires to do to us! (Ref: James 1:13)
• We overcome sin in Christ Jesus!
• Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
