God’s Plan of Salvation!
Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this, they
were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the
rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what
shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent,
and let every one of you be baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The most important question!
♦I would imagine that everyone here is concerned
about your eternal salvation, and that's why you are
here!
♦In the world today man has come up with many
plans, but God has given only one plan and that is
the plan found in the pages of the New Testament!
♦ The number of elements in man’s plan can vary greatly!
As there are five acts/steps involved in true
worship, there are five acts/steps involved in
becoming a Christian!
♦When we take time to learn God’s plan, we find that it
is often very different from man’s plan and that many
are living with a false sense of security!
♦It is our hope & prayer today that we can work
together to properly understand God’s plan of salvation
and then ask ourselves, “have we truly obeyed it, or
have we been deceived?”
I. One Must Hear the Word!
♦ It has been said that, “people often do better when
they have been taught better” and this is usually the
case! (Act. 18:24-19:7)
♦ For one to truly obey God’s plan, he or she must first
“know” what it is! (cf. Rom. 10:1-3 this is *key*)
♦ We must hear the Word to know what to do!
♦ Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
The life of a Christian, must begin & end with
faith!
♦ Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please
Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
♦ Rev 2:10 "Do not fear any of those things which you are
about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of
you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have
tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give
you the crown of life.
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God.
♦If you have a translation that puts words supplied
by the translators in italics, the word cometh/comes
is supplied! (Rom. 10:17)
♦The passage literally reads “so the faith by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God!”
♦God’s Word will naturally produce faith!
♦Is. 55:10-11
II. One Must Believe in Jesus!
♦These 5 points are much more related than they are
apart!
♦ Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that
He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
♦Faith is a summary term that includes belief! (Js.
2:20-23)
♦ Js 2:22 Do you see that faith was working together with his
works, and by works faith was made perfect?
We develop faith by hearing the Word, but only
if we believe what we hear!
♦Joh 8:24 "Therefore I said to you that you will die in
your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will
die in your sins."
♦The truth remains that Jesus is the only one that can
save us!
♦ Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for
there is no other name under heaven given
among men by which we must be saved."
III. One Must Repent of Sin!
♦Repentance is a change in mind/heart that results in a
change in action!
♦ We Show Sorrow! (2 Cor. 7:8-11)
♦ We Stop Sinning! (Jn. 8:11)
♦ We Start Service! (Acts 26:20)
♦Repentance is far different that reporting! It is not
only acknowledging that we have done wrong, but also
seeking to do better!
It is God’s desire that all men come to
repentance! (Act. 30-31)
♦ 2 Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slack
concerning His promise, as some count
slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,
not willing that any should perish but that all
should come to repentance.
IV. One Must Confess Jesus!
♦We must be willing to confess Him among men!
♦ Mt 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men,
him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.”
(cf. Jn. 9:22; 12:42)
♦We must be willing to confess Him as Lord of our
life!
♦ Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord
Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised
Him from the dead, you will be saved.
We read in the Bible that there are some that
believe in Jesus, but will not confess Him!
♦Jn 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers
many believed in Him, but because of the
Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they
should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved
the praise of men more than the praise of God.
♦Who do we desire to please more?
V. One Must Be Baptized!
♦It is at this point that one is forgiven according
to God’s plan!
♦Mk. 16:15-16; Acts 2:37; 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21
♦Man has often denied the necessity of baptism,
but God demand it!
♦Man has drawn the line at many places, but God
has drawn it at baptism!
At the point of baptism, one is born again, one is
forgiven, one enters the body of Christ!
♦ Rom 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should
walk in newness of life.
♦ Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let
every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins and you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit.
Baptism puts us “in” Christ!
♦ Gal. 3:27 For as many of you as were
baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
♦ Rom. 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of
us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into His death?
♦ It is “in” Christ that salvation & spiritual
blessings are found! (Eph. 1:3 & 2 Tim. 2:10)
Conclusion:
♦ There are five steps in becoming a Christian, but
there is a six one needed for us to enter heaven!
♦ “Be faithful until death!” (Rev. 2:10) Don’t give up!
♦ Have we truly come to obey God’s plan of salvation,
or have we only obeyed the plans of men?
♦ If you are here and you have not yet obeyed God’s
plan, then today is the day of salvation, tomorrow may
be too late!
