Pride and Wickedness!
Psalm 52 Gives us insight on how
evil pride is, and tells a few of the
 wicked partners that accompany
 pride.
We need to learn this warning, lest
we also be overtaken by this sin!
The Discovery
• Pride is evil and existed in the devil.
  – He knew about it, it led to his downfall too.
    1 Timothy 3:6
  – The angels who left their proper abode (to go
where they were not permitted) sinned against
    God. Jude 6; 2 Peter 2:4
  – Mankind first did this in the garden. Gen. 3:3ff
Pride Led to the Fall!
• There are 3 paths toward sin, any one or
all 3 will get you there! 1 John 2:15-17
  – The lust of the flesh… food Genesis 3:6
  – The lust of the eyes… pleasant
  – The pride of life (selfish pride). Wise/mind
• These 3 things are not from God but the
  world (the evil one).
Pride Led to the Fall!
• The devil uses pride to deceive.
  – Effectively blinding people from the Truth.
    2 Corinthians 4:4; Rev. 12:9
• Deceives people to believe a lie.
  – They trust in evil, believing a lie over the
    truth. Psalm 52:7, 1; Rom. 1:25
  – God does not want this for us! Gal. 6:7-8
God’s Word Is the Cure!
                Matthew 4:1-10
• Jesus gave scripture to combat and win
over the 3 paths of temptation to sin.
• We must use caution in our lives concerning
pride (leads to destruction). Proverbs 16:18
• Our goal -- always live honorably! Prov. 15:33
Pride Clouds Our Good Judgment!
• It puffs us up. 1 Corinthians 13:4
• Causes one to think too highly of himself.
  Romans 12:3
• Leads to ungodly comparisons. 1 Cor. 4:6
• The prideful heart defiles us. Mark 7:20-23
  – Causes us to not be sober and vigilant. 1 Pet. 5:8
Pride Promotes Dishonor
• God will put down those who exalt themselves
taking away their presumed honor. Mt. 23:12
• God resists the proud, but gives grace to the
  humble. 1 Pet. 5:5
• But if you humble yourself under God, He will
exalt you in due time. 1 Pet. 5:6
Pride Promotes Dissension
• Only by pride cometh contention…
  Proverbs 13:10
  – At the root of every division, contention, divorce,
    etc., is pride! James 3:16
  – God hates a proud look (it starts trouble) and many
    other things! Proverbs 6:16-19
Pride Makes Us Independent
• Causes us not to seek counsel (my way is
  best). 1 Cor. 8:1-2
• We can’t just trust in our own understanding.
  Prov. 3:5-7; Jer. 10:23
• False teachers and evil men are proud knowing
  nothing. 1 Tim. 6:4; 2 Tim. 3:7-8
Pride Makes Us Foolish
• Pride gives a foolish sense of wisdom.
  Proverbs 1:7; 1 Cor. 3:18-20
• Pride causes us to think foolishly. Prov. 12:15;
  Ps. 10:4
  – And act foolishly… Ps. 10:2
  – And speak foolishly… Prov. 14:3
Pride Condemns to Hell
• God will condemn the house of the proud!
  Proverbs 15:25; 16:18
  – Pride will bring God’s judgment on us. Isa. 2:12
• We should hate all evil, even of pride and
arrogance and the perverse mouth so we may
have the fear of the Lord! Proverbs 8:13
  – Pride is characteristic of a reprobate mind which is
worthy of death. Romans 1:28-32; 6:23
Let Us Avoid These Perils!
Here’s a quick test. Give yourself a good reality
   check:
· Are you irritated when you are corrected for a
   mistake?
· Do you find yourself accepting praise for things
over which you have no control?
· Do you tend to forget Who blessed you with talents
   and abilities?
· When you make a mistake, are you quick with an
   alibi?
· Is everything someone else's fault?
· When there is a personal conflict, are you quick to
tell yourself you can get along without that person?
Let Us Avoid These Perils!
· Are you prone to think you can go it alone?
· Is it difficult for you to take advice? Are you
   extremely reluctant to seek it?
· Do you have an ungrateful spirit toward what
God has given you and a bitterness about what
   you think you deserve?
· Is your life marked by a sense of competition?
Do you measure success by victories over
   other people?
Do you see in yourself an independence from
God and a sense of self-sufficiency?
It’s a recipe for disaster!
