  1. When I first started at NSCS in March of 2010, the national page was mainly used for basic customer service and members to announce that they’d just joined. I turned it into a place for all members to connect with both other members and the national office and gave it a very personal touch.I helped chapters develop their chapter pages, encourage their members to participate in conversations and to really use the page as go-to place… from posting pictures to meeting minutes and events.
  2. As I go through the presentation I want you to take notes and write down responses to the questions I ask…For the last 15 minutes we will go over our notes, discuss, ask questions and…At the end of the session, you will have a personal action plan and a checklist to get you started.
  3. We all know what Facebook is so I’m not going to spend much time on it.Be aware of what you’re saying…Pictures you’re posting…Places where you are “checking in”… and who you are friends with.Your future employer, your parents, your girlfriend’s mom… they are ALL going to look you up on Facebook.
  4. I used to think of it as blogging for lazy people. Now that I’m tweeting all day, every day I realize you can’t be good at tweeting and be lazy. It’s a lot of work.
  5. It’s also popular as a way of marketing a business because business owners can interact with people who are interested in their services.
  6. Everything you are putting out there on social media, combined with who you are… it all creates a personal brand. Everyone turn to your neighbor and for about 30 seconds tell them what your personal brand is. What is YOU? Ready, go!Let’s share a few of them…

  17. I use a social media management tool called HootSuite. It allows me to post on multiple social media outlets all at once, follow conversations, topics, hashtags… it’s super customizable. Using Twitter.com, I feel, is a waste of time. To really get the most from Twitter, you need to use something like HootSuite or Tweet Deck.Pull up HootSuite for examples.

  19. Tell Ramiah’s story… passionate about sneakers, hip-hop and photography. Never had a misspelled word, never a broken link, perfect grammar and punctuation, always responded to comments, wrote engaging and interesting posts. I kept telling him how good he was at using social media and encouraged him to pursue a career in social media. Now he works for a shoe store to hype up the release of new shoes, works for hip-hop artists getting the word out about shows, collaborations and new albums, and has a successfulphotography business because he’s constantly putting himself out there in all the right places.I‘m passionate about non-profits and love working with college students. A bit of a random combination, but here I am doing just that!
