Anger In A Doll s House
Anger is perhaps not well understood because it is omnipresent; anger is so familiar that we
assume we know what it is. Anger may be partly physiological, cognitive and psychological, yet it
is also deeply ideological. Anger can be manifested in art or literature as a communal sensation
towards social, political or economical conditions. (Sue J. 6)
It is wise to direct your anger towards problems not people; to focus your energies on answers not
excuses, said William Arthur Ward (Ward 24), and so much can be said for the authors, dramatists
and novelists, in the modern era who attempted, through their writings, to crack the shell that is the
literary restrictions on writing, and expressed their anger toward all their surroundings. In ... Show

At the turn of the century, Expressionism and Symbolism were important, especially in Northern
Europe. Both involved non realistic styles of acting, staging, and language, with expressionism
concentrating on using unusual technical devices to project the interior states of characters.
Surrealist drama, including the work of Eugene Ionesco, is an outgrowth of Expressionism, but no
longer presumes internal coherence and follows the illogic of dream states or random occurrences.
Another group of plays focused on social and political critique, in the case of Berthold Brecht
combined with techniques of alienation (which emphasize the unreal nature of the play) to force
the audience to think critically rather than empathetically. After the World War I western mostly
lost its separate literary identity and more internationally unified. Realism, naturalism and
symbolism continued to dominate the plays. In English drama John Galsworthy s plays are
considered to be plays of naturalism. Another important movement in early 20th century drama was
expressionism. They tried to depict the dehumanizing aspects of 20th century technological life.
Even though we cannot find much playwrights of expressionism in English other western writers
followed this. The Angry Young Men of England also engage in socially aware portraits of the
working class but in a more aesthetically conservative style. In a negative description,

John Locke On Land Violation Of Labour
Hardin states that a finite world can support only a finite population; therefore population growth
must eventually equal zero (1243). Currently we live in a finite world with finite resources but use
them as though they are not. With the world population growing exponentially, one must
contemplate the potential of largescale resource loss. With Locke placing the greatest value of
propertyon the labour put into it and being absolutely essential for liberty then this has to give
some form of responsibility to whoever has placed labour on to the area. Before labour has
enhanced the quality of a land making it more productive it is essentially a natural waste land.
Therefore if you have enhanced the land with your labour then it is your responsibility to make
sure it is always productive and kept at this enhanced level. This is to insure that this natural
land is not wasted or spoilt. Locke strongly opposes waste or spoiling Nothing was made by God
for man to spoil or destroy (31). The concept that the wasting of property is a violation of natural
law implies one who earns property accepts some responsibilities for it. He was only to look that
he used them before they spoiled, else he took more than his share, and robbed others (46).You only

relaying with the tragedy of the commons if you were to enhance a land with your labour so that it

idea of the tragedy of the commons would not persist. There would be enough of everything to go
around and everyone would only use what they need, nothing more. But that is in a world where
greed and selfishness does not

Personal Statement Of Engineering In Electronics And...
It is no doubt that Engineering plays a vital role in our society. This is magnified in a time when
the world is faced with so many significant problems climate change, population density to name
just two. It is for this reason that I am so excited about the prospect of studying Engineering,
especially at the point of so many major advances in technology, in AI and nanomaterials for
example. In the future, I hope to help to lead these advances and solve these problems.
My interest in building projects first started when I began studying Electronics in Year 9. I
remember the joy I felt after making some Christmas lights flash in different patterns. Though it
was simple, seeing how I could genuinely make physical changes to my own home brought me
great pleasure. As I became more knowledgeable in Electronics and Engineering, I began building
far more impressive projects. In Year 11, I assembled and coded a quadcopter, for which I was
awarded a CREST Gold award. During the course of Year 12, I made a facial recognition system
using a Raspberry Pi and open source libraries. These projects have showed me the practical
aspects of Engineering, particularly in how important it is to be able to troubleshoot. [more detail]
[A book quote, e.g. as X says in Y ; ].
Another major project I have worked on recently involved building a suite of different LEDs that
can have features such as its flicker rate and intensity configured to a very precise level. This
formed part of a larger research project investigating how animals react to types of light. The
project, done as part of a Nuffield Research Placement was very different to my previous
ventures as it involved dozens of different people with a wide range of skillsets. I found that this
project developed not only my ability to work as a team [example], but also showed me how
research works at the PhD level.
Of course, I understand that Engineering is not just about building projects in the garage and I
have been actively seeking to gain a more diverse appreciation of what constitutes Engineering. I
recently attended a four day Headstart course at Warwick University which proved to be an
enlightening experience because of the amount of new material that was covered,

Lincoln And The Suspension Of Habeas Corpus
Raymond Mora
Political Science 433
Professor Soper
10 October 2017
Lincoln and the Suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus Throughout American history, the writ
of habeas Corpus has been the basis of the legal system of the United States, meant to preserve
civil freedoms. Habeas corpus established a constitutional check on any dictatorial power that tried
to present itself. It allowed any individual that was arrested to stand in front of the court to
challenge whether they were being imprisoned according to the law of the land, ensuring their civil
liberties weren t threatened; however, only in times when the stability of a country was threatened
could it be temporarily suspended. President Lincoln came into office in 1861 and by the ... Show

The power was explicitly given to the Legislative branch of the government since it was
mentioned in Article I; however, the argument can be made that this was an exigency that was
granted for a particular emergency, in this case an insurrection. Even knowing that he had a basis
to take action on his own, he waited for Congress to make the final decision and grant him the
privilege to not overstep any boundary. When Congress made a decision it was imposed upon the
President for the very reason that the courts and the marshals are too weak to perform it (the
suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus) (Bates 295). President Lincoln was just upholding and
living up to the oath that he will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and
will...preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. When all else fails the
President is the Guardian of the Constitution and must not be denied due to believing that a power
can be easily abused, when every law is subject to good and bad, it s the chances that must be taken
(Bates 295). The circumstances all pointed to the the executive branch, the president, to step in and
enact the suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus indicating that the power, although given only to
the legislative, it seems that the framers knew that when the time came congress would not be able
to perform such actions. The only grounds that indicated that the president wasn t automatically
given the power was

Teamwork In Freak The Mighty
In the book, Freak the Mighty, there are many themes that support the idea, The whole is greater
than the sum of its parts. The two main characters, Max and Kevin, both get bullied for having
physical and mental challenges. They quickly realize that they can work together and combine
their strengths. Kevin teaches Max words from his vocabulary and expands his creativity. Max
helps Kevin become more mobile, by carrying him on his shoulders, allowing them to have
imaginative adventures in the book. They become a team against bullies. Throughout this story,
they learn the value of teamwork. Kevin and Max are two outcasts that form a team. An example
of this is when Tony D. and his gang chase Max and Kevin and they work as a team to get away.

The Debate of Interracial Marriages and the Unseen...
The Debate of Interracial Marriages and the Unseen Barriers of Relationships 1 For decades,
interracial relationships have been a deep seated conflict among many people and families in our
history. Not only in the United States, but many countries around the world have debated and
banned such acts. Although it has now been found to be unconstitutional based on the violation of
the fourteenth amendment, societal perceptions, norms, and hate groups have still managed to
persist. We as a country have come a long way in the past fifty years by recognizing the injustice in
banning and punishing certain marriages, but there is still a definite stigma and an abundance of
prejudice, resentment, and negative reactions attached to those who are... Show more content on

These types of experiences and attitudes lead many Black/white couples to isolate from their
communities to protect themselves (Bratter King, p.170). As one can see, when social support
is lacking it can lead to couples isolation. Isolation in turn can lead to other psychological issues
and problems between the couple making arguments and distress much easier to come by. One
could almost say that at least outside of the direct home of the couple, negativity seems to be
lurking on all sides of them. It would be easy to see how divorce may sometimes seem like the
most logical or conceivable solution to these stresses. It is clear that negative reactions from
family as well as from society and also outsider beliefs are aspects that can contribute to stress
and negative marital dynamics, yet there are still other variables like background/values, age, and
psychological distress that was just touched on briefly. In the past, interracial relationships were
seen by many as a psychological flaw or disorder in the person involved; someone who had low
self esteem, self loathing, deep psychological sicknesses, and inferiority issues. These attitudes put

Fitness is determined by the ability of an organism to survive, grow, and reproduce in a particular
habitat. You have probably heard the term survival of the п¬Ѓttest, but if an organism is not able to
also grow and reproduce, it will not be able to pass any of its alleles (genetic information) on to its
offspring. An organism that has high fitness does well in its habitat and passes those favorable
alleles onto its offspring when it reproduces.
Go back and review the habitats you described in Exercise п™„ and think about the factors that
would be important for plant fitness. Then list the ecological differences between North
Carolina and Minnesota that might affect the fitness of each variant. In other words which
factors might increase plant growth, survival, and reproduction in each habitat, and which factors
might inhibit them?

Embryo transfer is the fourth step.
Embryos transfer is much like a pelvic exam. The fertility doctor will place a flexible catheter into
your cervix. When it is positioned about 1 2cm from the top of the uterus, the embryos are released.
Then, a serum pregnancy test will be performed two weeks after egg retrieval.
5.Hormonal support during the luteal phase with progesterone is the fifth and final step.
Studies have shown that pregnancy and delivery rates are higher when women receive luteal phase
support with progesterone after embryo transfer. Progesterone is a hormone that is produced by the
ovaries to prepare the uterine lining for implantation.
Progesterone can be administered intramuscularly or by using a vaginal progesterone product called
Crinone. Whichever method is selected, your physician will administer progesterone starting 2 days
after egg retrieval until you take a pregnancy test. Depending on your serum progesterone levels, the
progesterone may be continued after you get pregnant.

Watchmen takes place in an alternate America of 1985, and thanks to the Keene Act of 1977
costumed heroes are no longer allowed to save the lives of distressed civilians, help those in

different from everyone else. Rorschach wasn t always Rorschach he was born Walter Joseph
Kovacs. Rorschach didn t have an easy life growing up, his mother was prostitute, and didn t
even know who his father was. His mother was abusive, he was raised in poverty, and as a child
he got into an extremely violent fight with two bullies in school. When the situation and his
home life were investigated he was taken into a shelter or Home for Problem Children . He had
a couple of hobbies as a child that got him into the physical state he is now, and eventually
started working at a dress shop. Rorschach then made a mask out of a dress that was rejected by
its owner. Rorschach was reading a news article two years later about the rape and murder of a
young girl, and he wanted to do something about it. Rorschach then began fighting crime under the
mask vigilante named Rorschach . Rorschach believes that people are either good, or

The Three Branches Of Congress
The United States government is comprised of three branches; executive, legislative and judicial.
Of these branches it is said that the President, under the executive branch, has the most power.
Congress as part of the legislative branch, however according to the text, American Government
Institutions and Policies by James Wilson, John Dilulio, and Meena Bose, to the Framers of the
Constitution, the bicameral (two chamber) Congress was the first branch. They expected Congress
to wield most of the national government s powers...and [have] the ultimate authority to declare
war (p. 303). However, as we know the commander in chief (the President) has the authority to
declare war, and can be considered as the central figure in American politics . Coincidentally, the
relationship between Congress and the President, expected by the Framers of the Constitution, is
seemingly different than what they originally had in mind. The dynamic of both entities have
shifted over the years; especially in reference to how the legislative branch operates. Most
contemporary Americans and many experts, however, think of Congress not as the first branch but
as the broken branch, unable to address the nation s most pressing domestic, economic, and
international problems in an effective way; unduly responsive to powerful organized special
interests; awash in nonstop campaign fundraising and other activities that many believe border on
political corruption; and unlikely to fix itself through real reforms (p.303). The power and authority
of the United Statesgovernmental branches has shifted since the creation of the... Show more

In the knitwear department one can buy sweaters, cardigans, short sleeved and long sleeved
pullovers, woollen jackets. In the perfumery they sell face cream and powder, lipstick, lotions
and shampoos. In a food supermarket we can also buy many different things at once: sausages,
fish, sugar, macaroni, flour, cereals, tea. At the butcher s there is a wide choice of meat and
poultry. At the bakery you buy brown and white bread, rolls, biscuits. Another shop we
frequently go to is the greengrocery which is stocked by cabbage, potatoes, onions, cucumbers,
carrots, beetroots, green peas and what not. If I m not mistaken, everything is sold here ready
weighed and packed. If you call round at a dairy you can buy milk, cream, cheese, butter and
many other products. To tell the truth the methods of shopping may vary. It may be a self
service shop where the customer goes from counter to counter selecting and putting into a basket
what he wishes to buy. Then he takes the basket to the check out counter, where the prices of the
purchases are added up. If it is not a self service shop, and most small shops are not, the shop
assistant helps the customer in finding what he wants. You pay money to the cashier and he gives
you back the change. Questions: 1. What do we do when we want to buy something? 2. What
kinds of shops are there in every town? 3. Where do you like to do your shopping?

of New Entrants New entrants into an industry bring with them the capacity and a desire to

`` The Merchant Of Venice `` By William Shakespeare
Risk is a situation that involves the possibility of exposure to dangers. Risks exist everywhere,
even the most minute of actions can place someone in jeopardy. It is an inescapable labyrinth that
plagues the lives of all ever since humanity s first existence. Yet it,s double edged sword like
characteristics of also providing opportunities and gains keeps many enthralled in it. In William
Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life
threatening contract with the villain, Shylockthe Jew, in order to provide the means for one of
Antonio s friend the opportunity to woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky
opportunities and events also expose other relationships as means of satisfying their wants,
although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is the root cause of rewards and punishments
in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock.
Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is seen again between fathers and
children, such as Shylock and Jessica.
The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly
influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock
employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he
will have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his]

Several studies have shown that food quality, variety of food, atmosphere, service quality, and price

Confederacy had to continue. The Confederate community of Richmond, Virginia is an example of
a Confederate community that had to continue with the grinds of everyday life. The Daily

optimism about the Confederacy beating the Union and being a recognized nation. The Daily

Honey Bee Lab Report
The honey bee population has been diminishing for the past few decades due to various factors
such as increased pesticide use, introduced pathogens, and increased industrialization. The increase
of industrialization had lead to a change in the pollinators present. The change of pollinators has led
to a change in the diversity of the plants. This has also changed the pollinators present in that
community; this cycle never ends. Hawaii has had a lot of habitat destruction due to introduced
species. The European honey bee(Apis mellifera) had been introduced to Hawaii and many negative
outcomes had followed it. These introductions have changed the flora and organisms present there,
such as out competing the native bee species (Hylaeus). Changing these factors has a huge impact

Theodore Roosevelt . Introduction To The Life Of Theodore
THEODORE ROOSEVELT Introduction to the Life of Theodore Roosevelt Theodore
Roosevelt was born October 27, 1858 in New York City to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha
Bulloch. Theodore was also known as Teedie or Teddy. Due to his continuing battle with health
issues, which started at birth, Roosevelt was homeschooled along with his siblings. The family
house also had a gymnasium where he lifted weights and boxed to help him gain strength.
Despite what appeared to be a sickly and weak child, Roosevelt went on to accomplish many great
things scholastically, physically and politically. He graduated from Harvard University, published
several books, won many awards, and left a lasting impression in the military as well as during his
presidency.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were the first American troops ever sent overseas, arriving at the southeastern end of Cuba
on June 22, 1898. Roosevelt would go on to lead the group to victory, but sadly many soldiers
would die due to yellow fever, lack of food and supplies and unsanitary camps. Roosevelt would
be remembered for the Round Robin letter he sent asking for the U.S. troops to be removed
from Cuba. After the soldiers were brought home, Americans called Roosevelt a national hero
for bringing them home safely.2 Roosevelt would be called a war hero and receive a nomination
for the Medal of Honor. He was elected as governor of New York in 1898.1 The Republican
political machine in New York supported Roosevelt for governor. However, once he was elected
governor, it was clear to them that he had no interest in listening to their ideas or following their
ways. This would lead Roosevelt into becoming the running mate for McKinley in the
presidential election, in hopes of preventing a second governor term for the once loved war hero.
McKinley would go on to win the election and Roosevelt would become the Vice President, but
this was short lived. On September 6, 1901 McKinley was tragically shot and killed. Roosevelt
would now become the 26th president and the youngest president in the nation s history at age 42.
Under his first term as president Roosevelt would have many successes.4 He acted against

John Paston Rebirth
There was no Renaissance in England during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. England at this time was
more rural and lacked the artistic or classical resurgence that is Renaissance is often defined by.
Most of its economy was based in agriculture or the textile industries and had a notable economic
growth spurt due to the massive loss in population from the plague. The plague and its effects
contradict the basic rebirth idea of the Renaissance by being the literal opposite of a rebirth and
having the economic growth start from a massive death toll. England was mainly rural during this
period, with only a few pockets of urbanization in the Southern parts of the country. Since there was
a lot of countryside, agriculture was the most popular occupation... Show more content on

The price of goods went down and the standard of living went up. Since agriculture was the
biggest occupation, it affected a large portion of the English population. However, this
economic growth came at the price of large masses of people dying. Clearly an age which relies
for its prosperity upon large numbers of its members dying at an early age, and suffering the
frequent loss of spouses, children, relatives, friends and colleagues is somewhat less than golden,
(Aberth, 70). Even the economic prosperity came from the opposite of what the Renaissance
implies because the catalyst was death instead of rebirth . England did not have a Renaissance or a
rebirth during the 1300 s to the 1500 s. Instead, England was fairly typical with having most of its
population in rural areas and being rooted in agriculture and textiles. Even for those not in the
agriculture and textile industries, other aspects associated with the Renaissance, such as the
resurgence of classical education, hardly touched the English. They also suffered a major loss in
their population because of the plague, which helped to caused economic growth but only due to

Constructing and Reconstructing Essay
1.Woody Holton reveals the motives of the Founding Fathers depend widely on individual
judgment of the terms under the Articles of Confederation. Holton claims that historians
excessively rely on sources by the Federalist which reveals a prejudiced Federalist view (Hollitz,
110). Woody Holton uses the writings of James Madisonand Alexander Hamiltonto expose the
Founding Fathers deeper motives in writing the Constitution. The Founding Fathers were frustrated
because state legislatures had been given in to popular demands to reduce taxes and increase the
money supply (for relief from the recession). While citizens were behind on their taxes; states were

The Federalist Paper No. 10 argues that a republic is capable of controlling the effects of faction,
more than a democracy. The reason is that a system of representation is more capable of
protecting the rights of the individuals, as well as being able to balance the needs of the public
good. James Madison views many advantages of a republic over a pure democracy. A republic,
Madison writes, is different from a democracy because its government is placed in the hands of
delegates, and as a result of this, it can be extended over a larger area. The idea is that in a large
republic there will be more fit characters to choose from for each delegate (Hollitz, 106). The
chosen elites as representatives of the people will be more helpful to the public good than by
the people themselves. Also, the fact that each representative is chosen from a larger number of
citizens should make the vicious arts (Hollitz, 107). For instance, in a larger republic a corrupt
delegate would need to bribe many more people in order to win an election than in a small
republic, making it more difficult for unworthy candidates. Second, the same advantage which a
republic has over a pure democracy in controlling the effects of faction by a larger over a small
republic (Hollitz, 107). Madison explains the failure of democracy for not understanding the need
of the public good. Another flaw that Madison identifies in a democracy is that it allows

The Four Misconceptions Of Women
The fourth misconception that most people have about women in Islam and sharia law is the
concept of divorce. In the same article that was mentioned in the previous paragraph, Women s
rights in Islam, Nicolau states, Being left at the mercy of man who can disavow her (the wife) at
his free will, without being obliged to show any reasons determining him to do so, the Moslem
woman is nothing else but a simple piece of patrimony for her husband(Women s rightsin Islam). In
other words, Nicolau believes that Muslim women are humiliated and treated as objects by their
husbands because husbands can initiate divorcewhenever they wish to do so. Nevertheless, this is
a common misconception that most people have, which is that only men could divorce their
spouse, where in reality they both could. In fact, there are mostly five primary conditions for a
divorce to be issued in Islam. The first condition is by mutual consent, which is when both
spouses agree to the divorce. The second condition is if a wife made it conditional at the day of
the Aqd (the marital contract), that she also want to be able to initiate divorce. The third
condition is divorce Khula, which is when a wife wants a divorce for no obvious reason, then
she would have to return the dowry that the husband gave her, and in return, he gives her the
divorce paper. The fourth condition is the divorce for a valid reason, which is if a wife has a valid
reason such as any type of abuse done toward her by the husband, or

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark
Sometimes, man is too eager to repair natural imperfections that may exist using science, rather than
seeing these imperfections as beautiful natural occurrences, which will eventually lead to the
destruction of nature. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark, it appears that Aylmer the main
character wants to show the world that perfection is not beauty, and he demonstrates this with his
wife Georgiana and that science should not alter the way that nature set man on this world to be.
Hawthorne was a major asset to the transcendental movement, and this short story is a perfect
example why. Nathaniel Hawthorneattempts to show the world the comparison between perfection
and beauty mainly by: a psychoanalytic version of the plot and Sigmund Freuds three fundamentals.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark, the main character, Aylmer, wants to have a perfect wife.
His wife, Georgiana, is a very beautiful woman with just one flaw, the birthmark on her face. As a
scientist, Aylmer tries to create a solution that will get rid of Georgiana s birthmark, thus making
her perfect. According to Hawthorne, however, this is not possible.
During the transcendental phase of American life, which involved literature from Hawthorne,
transcendental writers would support Nature and its importance. In The Birthmark, Nathaniel
Hawthorne tries to show the people that nature does not make anything flawless, and that this is the
beauty of it. Nature, in one shape or another, stamps ineffably

Breastfeeding Anthropology
Breastfeeding is an action that is bio cultural and biosocial in nature. Breastfeeding is a biological
process that involves a woman providing milk for an infant. Culturally speaking, breastfeeding is
not always an action by the biological mother. In some cases, the mother needs to return to work not
long after birth. Other times, it is just the cultural norm that other women and children help in the
care of a new baby. Stereotypes and norms surrounding breastfeedingvary cross culturally as well.
Socially speaking, there is an expectation that mothers will breastfeed their offspring. Some people
biologically cannot breastfeed, others cannot breastfeed due to medications, and some women just
choose not to breastfeed.

The taliban first came to Swat in the year of 2004, but according to Malala they did not show
their violence or oppressiveness when they first came. But in 2007 when they started to take

Girl right to go to school, girls going to the market, or even going to work, was all banned. The
taliban destroyed many girl schools, murdered teachers, and killed students, that went to school,
and all this was just to ban education. It became very dangerous for students to go to school, and
many students including ones at Malala s school dropped out.but Malala continued to go to
school because to her education was everything. Not only was violence used to make people
follow the rules that the taliban set, but it was also used in public where whipping and execution
was being used for anyone that broke the taliban s rules. The taliban have blasted more than 400
schools in swat, and slaughtered people , Malala says with her interview with Jon Stewart. That
shows you, that the taliban were so harsh and cruel to the people of Swat, they made the people
live in fear. Swat changed because of all the violence and oppressiveness of the taliban, instead of
Swat being paradise on earth like Malala describes it in her book I am Malala , it has became a war
zone.
If the taliban are being cruel, harsh, and are banning girls education, what do they want to reach?
Well according to Malala, the terrorists are afraid of education, they do not want women to get
education because they do not want women to be more powerful , that might be one reason that
shows you what the taliban want from banning girls from going to school, which is trying not to
make education or girls more powerful than them. And that is why the taliban are using violence so

Analysis Of The Danger Of A Single Story
Coming from a conventional, middle class Nigerian family, where her father was a professor
and her mother was an administrator, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie lived a normal life exposed
to the typical books of white, blue eyed characters playing with snow, eating apples, and drinking
ginger beer. However, she realizes that literature didn t always contain the same characteristics
as the books she had read growing up and that people like her, girls with the skin color of
chocolate, whose kinky hair could not form ponytails can exist in literature (2:15). Through this
experience, it saved her from having a single story of what books are (2:36). Her TED talk, The
Danger of a Single Story , filmed on July of 2009, with over 13 million views, is a reflective
speech that allows the audience to deeply consider how they judge people, places, and/or
cultures. She explains how narrow mindedness, stereotypes, and conflicts could be established
through the exposure of one single story as it prevents us from seeing things in any other light.
Her audience is generally towards older Americans, starting from teens and beyond, because she
discusses her speech in the perspective of a woman who lives in the United States. Although she
discusses her opinions and thoughts as an American, her TED talk is for the general public, as we
all have made false judgements of people, places, and/or cultures based on a single story. I agree

Also it seems that both the instruments used and their arrangement amongst one another is
done in a way that resembles how it would have been originally played. The first piece,
Beethoven Egmont Ouverture, Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 was particularly good I thought
and exhibited a lot of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example unity, throughout
the piece I felt that there was a strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar.
Even when there would be seemingly unrelated ideas thrown in, I always felt that it was taken
back to familiar ideas. Having said that there was definitely a lot of variety in the piece. There
were several ideas throughout, which sometime would come back in a pattern while others
would only make an appearance once. There was also a lot of variety in the volume or dynamic
of the piece which gave a nice variety to it. Additionally several different instruments were used
which gave several different timbres. The tempo also varied a lot within the piece. Going from
fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave it a nice feel. The overall
rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the classical era of art (2).
The second piece, Mahler Symphony No. 1 was not as good for me, although it still exhibited a lot
of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example

Prohibition And The Prohibition Movement
Introduction
Prohibition in the United States was an extent intended to decrease drinking by removing the
businesses that produced, dispersed, and retailed alcoholic beverages. The 18 Amendment made an
approval to the United States Constitution that bared the production, transference and trade of
hallucinogenic liquors. Conversely, this piloted a historical Crusades recognized as the Prohibition
movement (Asbury, 1950). At that time the well known temperance movementwas demanding and
had little or no affect even though the legislation was behind them. This was during the 20th
century when they were recognized as the Volstead Act. Unfortunately, this sparked the illegal surge

The Era Of The Republic Essay
In the last decades of the Republic, the struggles between competing warlords with dynastic
ambitions spurred related changes in visual culture. One of the new institutions of this changed
world was the household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its
supremacy. This resulted in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be
admired and imitated, synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age
of Augustus, Paul Zanker examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus,
arguing that a new visual language developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster
the social changes desired by the new government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living
women, honorific portraits of Augustus wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his
sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these
portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their original location of display in Rome is
unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to authorise such portraits by a special decree,
suggests the unique nature of such public honours to women.
Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and
sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from
physical harm and verbal insult. Flory argues that while Octavia needed this sacrosanctity due to the

No one before Canadian writer director Dolan has ever tried a 1:1 a risk considering the vast
majority of modern films are screened in a 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Despite the time it takes
to get used to the restrained perspective, it works beautifully in both an aesthetic and metaphoric
manner. The bold visual trick mixed with tight shot sizes allow every moment to be emotionally
sincere; the audience can avoid distractions to the left and right of the frame and look the
characters right in the eye. Even in the most calm of scenes, if there are three characters on screen,
the sequence becomes that much more powerful. The ratio forces the audience to sit front row in
the suffocating unhealthiness and, like Steve s mind, offers them no escape save for two fleeting

Amlie Movie Essay
A narrative reading of AmГ©lie (2001) directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, is a quirky portrayal of
modern day Parisian life, set in Montmartre. It tells the story of a shy waitress, played by Audrey
Tautou, who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better, while struggling with
her own isolation. We see the progression of Amelie s character from childhood to adulthood.
The opening sequence of the film gives an insight of Amelie s childhood and establishes the
main characters and their traits. Young Amelie s traits are established in different scenes of the
opening sequence, for example a mid shot is used as the opening credits start and young Amlie
is framed alone. We see a stream of games young Amelie used to play, like making silly faces,
dominoes and finger games. These games belong to the knowledge of everyone, everyone can
recognise them. If a scene focuses on the childhood, we know that this moment of life will be a
determinative item in the film. This shows the active audience theory, which media audiences do

The castle today is a ruin, it is therefore of very little use to any historian studying castles.
After having visited Kenilworth castle and through my general readings and investigative studies I
do not agree with the hypothesis above and I will attempt to argue against this statement. Although
the castle is a ruin there is a great deal of structural evidence which historians find relevant in
determining the usefulness of castles and how they were used before they became a ruin.
Therefore, throughout my project I m going to explain why I don t agree with this hypothesis.

From the outside of the building it is clear to see that the top sections of the walls are no longer
present. It is fair to say that the keep is no where near the great defensive feature of the medieval
period but it is remarkable in the way it has kept its shape and general structure over the years.
The strong tower and service wing is located away from the other
buildings in order to reduce the risk of fire spreading from the kitchens.
From my visit at Kenilworth I identified from the service wing three great fireplaces and a
massive tomb shape, which was more likely, used for baking bread. The service wing was also
used for residence and servants. When walking around the service wing I also noticed a large
basement, which was used for storing food. The strong tower is a three storey building and is one
of the earliest buildings to be built at Kenilworth, the first floor was a basement used for storage,
the second used for dining needs for the castles working residents and the top level being used
for living quarters. All these floors were being linked by a staircase in the wall. By going up the
main wooden staircase you now get a high level view of the great hall and going to the top level
of the tower using the wooden staircase you get a great view for miles around.
The great hall was used for dining and entertaining guests of the castle.

killed in action and 116 wounded in action. Enemy casualties included 25 Cuban and 45
Grenadian forces killed in action, 59 Cuban and 358 Grenadian forces wounded in action, and 638
Cuban Soldiers captured. Throughout the operation, coordination between joint forces was lacking
to say the least. Each branch of service operated with its own set of communication equipment,
which resulted in ground units not being able to talk to each other. Examples of this are the
accidental bombing of a hospital located next to Fort Frederick resulting in the deaths of 18

Adorno And Horkheimer s Essay
Whilst putting Adorno and Horkheimer s essay, The Culture Industry and Benjamin s Work of Art
in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction into conversation, a debate had been sparked regarding
the issue of artistic individualism and uniqueness. Although, Adorno, Horkheimer, and Benjamin
all seem to agree that the aura of art is rapidly declining in today s modern age, they seem to
differ in classifying the reason behind it. The aura refers to the one timeness of the experience of a
certain object, which can be possessed only by the original work of art itself, and therefore cannot
be reproduced. In essence, the aura is the one timeness of the experience, the situation in which the
subject meets the object that cannot be reproduced. For

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad vs. Things Fall Apart...
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe are two novellas
written to make a statement about the struggles of early societies. Both stories stir up moments of
hope, anger, disappointment, despair, and enlightenment in an attempt to inform the reader of the
injustices and societal differences during the 1800 s. Heart of Darknesstells the story from a
European Colonist perspective while Things Fall Apartillustrates the outlook of the African tribe
member being colonized. Throughout this piece I will investigate these unique texts in hopes of
revealing the symbolism behind the trying stories. I will compare and contrast the narratives and
decipher the outlooks so that the reader can learn to appreciate and... Show more content on

Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a
big meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease
from any future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him,
Okonkwo kills their leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other
Europeans to escape, Okonkwo realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the
murder, Okonkwo prideful character, and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of
Darkness and Things Fall Apart exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart
of Darkness, Joseph Conrad shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or
colonizing Europeans. In this story the native Africans are depicted as vicious savages.
In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebewrote Things Fall Apart
through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a
thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his
community. When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to
protect the culture that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives.
However his rigid mentality and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect,
perpetuating the stereotype of the wild African in the eyes of the

While looking at Ella s scenario there are many different issues that come up pertaining to treatment
alternatives. There are issues that arise whether natural, traditional and spiritual or modern
medicine is the best for Ella s situation. While modern medicine could be the best choice the
traditions and beliefs play a large part in the decision making of the care she will receive. With Ella
having a very diverse family, there are many micro, mezzo and macro influences that effect the
both Ella and her family. The different options for Ella treatments all have their benefits and
drawbacks. While looking at all for the options it is important to provide the best care possible
for the patient and family. Throughout this paper I will be using Ella, the grandmother from the
Introduction to the Miller Family as an example to provide information on how to prove the best
care and support in these types of situations. (Smith, 2013) Ella has been diagnosed with breast
cancer and has been treating it naturally. She has chosen to treat naturally because she grew up
on a farm and believes in natural healing verse modern medicine. She is married to John who is

Sleep Deprivation Is A Common Problem
Intricate human bodies are much like carefully crafted machines. Each function has a purpose, and
each need has a particular function. And, much like a machine, bodies can replenish their power,
repair themselves, and fail and break down. One particular necessity for human bodies is sleep, and
if not acquired, numerous complications can emerge. Sleep deprivationis a common problem that is
all too often overlooked as a mere loss of a night s rest. What most people do not realize is the
potential problems sleep deprivation can cause. From undesired grouchiness and uninhibited
yawns, to constant illness and a failing mental state, sleep deprivation is condition that is nothing
to be taken lightly. In fact, it can cause an otherwise healthy person to slowly shut down and
break, just as a machine does without power. Sleep deprivation is simply the state of not having
enough sleep. It can affect anybody, and has become an ever increasing peril in today s world.
Consequently, according to the National Sleep Foundation s inaugural Sleep Health Indexв„ў,as of
December, 2014, Forty five percent of Americans say that poor or insufficient sleep affected their
daily activities at least once in the past seven days, To fully understand Sleep deprivation though,
the knowledge of the process of sleeping must be obtained. Sleep is a crucial component of every
human s regime. Not only does the process of sleep provide essential benefits to the human body,
as does the actual

Helmet Comparison Essay
Imagine this, going into a burning building that could collapse, explode, or kill and you are the one
that is going to save someone s life inside and put your life on the line. This is what firefighters
have to think about everyday whether they are from the United States, Europe, or any other country.
Despite this similarity and multiple more, the United States and the Europeans fireservices
differences are clear.
Approximately 1,134,400 people in the United States are firefighters. About 346,000 are career
and paid firefighters. 788,000 are volunteer and don t get paid for their time.Only seven percent of
all these firefighters are women which leaves ninety three percent being male. The classes of fire

Seliger on European style helmets. Surprisingly, the United States and Europe use trucks with
the same way, however, they are much different. About seventy five percent of the United States
truck are custom cabs. This means that they are not regular car brands. Some brands of
American trucks are Rosenbauer, E ONE, and Pierce. A reason for using custom cabs is because
they can make trucks bigger in America because of the larger roads. The United States ladder
trucks have a lot of uses. They have equipment for rescuing people, ventilation, and fire
suppression which is actually putting out the fire. European trucks are very different from
American trucks. Their trucks are ninety five percent commercial cabs so, their trucks are brands
like Mercedes or Volvo. They use these brands because they make smaller and more compact
trucks for their smaller roads. Unlike the American ladder truck, the Europeans don t have many
with pumps or tanks. They are strictly use for rescuing and not putting out fire. They also don t
have room to have large ladder trucks with lots of equipment on

Ancient Egypt And The Egyptian Culture
Ancient Egypt was a fascinating culture, and still seems to surprise the current generation with
more discoveries coming out. And for historians the Egyptian culture has made it easier for
scholars and historians to track their life and culture with all the evidence left behind. The
Egyptians were people who were divide by gender and a strong hierarchy. And the Egyptian
culture was quite advanced for their time in history in regards to technology and economy.
Religion was not a single structure; it has different beliefs all that were linked by focus on the
interaction between the Egyptian people and the divine realm of Egypt, as the gods of this realm
linked the Egyptian understanding of the world. And this is very well known by looking at their
artwork throughout their buildings and artifacts. The religion in ancient Egyptwas what made the
civilization a very unique one. Religion was also a very big part in their government structure.
Religion played a very important role in constructing daily lives of ancient Egyptiansand inspired
those amazing construction buildings that were done. The main figure was the pharaoh he was the
center person that religion evolved around of. Their goal throughout their existence was to duplicate
the conditions that believed were around ever since the start of time of the human population. They
tried so hard to try and figure out and copy that and tried to insert that into their religion. They
believed that the temple that they resided in

Federal Courts Case Study
In this week chapter, we learn more about Federal Courts which deals with caseloads and case
filings. Also, there are a lot of aspects that are involves in case filings in U.S Courts such as civil,
criminal, prisoner petitions, and minor criminal. Furthermore, the rule of four has been a major
factor when choosing which cases to review every year. And, I believe if we want to reduce the
amounts of federal caseloads we need to adapt to a similar approach like the one specialized
federal courts use when deciding which cases to hear. According to Neubauer Meinhold (1991),
These courts are called specialized federal court because they are authorized to hear only a limited
range of cases (p. 64). The three ways that the federal court caseloads

  • 2. Anger In A Doll s House Anger is perhaps not well understood because it is omnipresent; anger is so familiar that we assume we know what it is. Anger may be partly physiological, cognitive and psychological, yet it is also deeply ideological. Anger can be manifested in art or literature as a communal sensation towards social, political or economical conditions. (Sue J. 6) It is wise to direct your anger towards problems not people; to focus your energies on answers not excuses, said William Arthur Ward (Ward 24), and so much can be said for the authors, dramatists and novelists, in the modern era who attempted, through their writings, to crack the shell that is the literary restrictions on writing, and expressed their anger toward all their surroundings. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the turn of the century, Expressionism and Symbolism were important, especially in Northern Europe. Both involved non realistic styles of acting, staging, and language, with expressionism concentrating on using unusual technical devices to project the interior states of characters. Surrealist drama, including the work of Eugene Ionesco, is an outgrowth of Expressionism, but no longer presumes internal coherence and follows the illogic of dream states or random occurrences. Another group of plays focused on social and political critique, in the case of Berthold Brecht combined with techniques of alienation (which emphasize the unreal nature of the play) to force the audience to think critically rather than empathetically. After the World War I western mostly lost its separate literary identity and more internationally unified. Realism, naturalism and symbolism continued to dominate the plays. In English drama John Galsworthy s plays are considered to be plays of naturalism. Another important movement in early 20th century drama was expressionism. They tried to depict the dehumanizing aspects of 20th century technological life. Even though we cannot find much playwrights of expressionism in English other western writers followed this. The Angry Young Men of England also engage in socially aware portraits of the working class but in a more aesthetically conservative style. In a negative description, ... • 3. John Locke On Land Violation Of Labour Hardin states that a finite world can support only a finite population; therefore population growth must eventually equal zero (1243). Currently we live in a finite world with finite resources but use them as though they are not. With the world population growing exponentially, one must contemplate the potential of largescale resource loss. With Locke placing the greatest value of propertyon the labour put into it and being absolutely essential for liberty then this has to give some form of responsibility to whoever has placed labour on to the area. Before labour has enhanced the quality of a land making it more productive it is essentially a natural waste land. Therefore if you have enhanced the land with your labour then it is your responsibility to make sure it is always productive and kept at this enhanced level. This is to insure that this natural land is not wasted or spoilt. Locke strongly opposes waste or spoiling Nothing was made by God for man to spoil or destroy (31). The concept that the wasting of property is a violation of natural law implies one who earns property accepts some responsibilities for it. He was only to look that he used them before they spoiled, else he took more than his share, and robbed others (46).You only have what you need and it is within your natural right to leave enough within the... • 4. Personal Statement Of Engineering In Electronics And... It is no doubt that Engineering plays a vital role in our society. This is magnified in a time when the world is faced with so many significant problems climate change, population density to name just two. It is for this reason that I am so excited about the prospect of studying Engineering, especially at the point of so many major advances in technology, in AI and nanomaterials for example. In the future, I hope to help to lead these advances and solve these problems. My interest in building projects first started when I began studying Electronics in Year 9. I remember the joy I felt after making some Christmas lights flash in different patterns. Though it was simple, seeing how I could genuinely make physical changes to my own home brought me great pleasure. As I became more knowledgeable in Electronics and Engineering, I began building far more impressive projects. In Year 11, I assembled and coded a quadcopter, for which I was awarded a CREST Gold award. During the course of Year 12, I made a facial recognition system using a Raspberry Pi and open source libraries. These projects have showed me the practical aspects of Engineering, particularly in how important it is to be able to troubleshoot. [more detail] [A book quote, e.g. as X says in Y ; ]. Another major project I have worked on recently involved building a suite of different LEDs that can have features such as its flicker rate and intensity configured to a very precise level. This formed part of a larger research project investigating how animals react to types of light. The project, done as part of a Nuffield Research Placement was very different to my previous ventures as it involved dozens of different people with a wide range of skillsets. I found that this project developed not only my ability to work as a team [example], but also showed me how research works at the PhD level. Of course, I understand that Engineering is not just about building projects in the garage and I have been actively seeking to gain a more diverse appreciation of what constitutes Engineering. I recently attended a four day Headstart course at Warwick University which proved to be an enlightening experience because of the amount of new material that was covered, ... Lincoln And The Suspension Of Habeas Corpus Raymond Mora Political Science 433 Professor Soper 10 October 2017 Lincoln and the Suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus Throughout American history, the writ of habeas Corpus has been the basis of the legal system of the United States, meant to preserve civil freedoms. Habeas corpus established a constitutional check on any dictatorial power that tried to present itself. It allowed any individual that was arrested to stand in front of the court to challenge whether they were being imprisoned according to the law of the land, ensuring their civil liberties weren t threatened; however, only in times when the stability of a country was threatened could it be temporarily suspended. The power was explicitly given to the Legislative branch of the government since it was mentioned in Article I; however, the argument can be made that this was an exigency that was granted for a particular emergency, in this case an insurrection. Even knowing that he had a basis to take action on his own, he waited for Congress to make the final decision and grant him the privilege to not overstep any boundary. When Congress made a decision it was imposed upon the President for the very reason that the courts and the marshals are too weak to perform it (the suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus) (Bates 295). The circumstances all pointed to the the executive branch, the president, to step in and enact the suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus indicating that the power, although given only to the legislative, it seems that the framers knew that when the time came congress would not be able to perform such actions. The Debate of Interracial Marriages and the Unseen Barriers of Relationships 1 For decades, interracial relationships have been a deep seated conflict among many people and families in our history. Not only in the United States, but many countries around the world have debated and banned such acts. Although it has now been found to be unconstitutional based on the violation of the fourteenth amendment, societal perceptions, norms, and hate groups have still managed to persist. As one can see, when social support is lacking it can lead to couples isolation. Isolation in turn can lead to other psychological issues and problems between the couple making arguments and distress much easier to come by. One could almost say that at least outside of the direct home of the couple, negativity seems to be lurking on all sides of them. It would be easy to see how divorce may sometimes seem like the most logical or conceivable solution to these stresses. It is clear that negative reactions from family as well as from society and also outsider beliefs are aspects that can contribute to stress and negative marital dynamics, yet there are still other variables like background/values, age, and psychological distress that was just touched on briefly. Coincidentally, the relationship between Congress and the President, expected by the Framers of the Constitution, is seemingly different than what they originally had in mind. The dynamic of both entities have shifted over the years; especially in reference to how the legislative branch operates. Most contemporary Americans and many experts, however, think of Congress not as the first branch but as the broken branch, unable to address the nation s most pressing domestic, economic, and international problems in an effective way; unduly responsive to powerful organized special interests; awash in nonstop campaign fundraising and other activities that many believe border on political corruption; and unlikely to fix itself through real reforms (p.303). However, once he was elected governor, it was clear to them that he had no interest in listening to their ideas or following their ways. This would lead Roosevelt into becoming the running mate for McKinley in the presidential election, in hopes of preventing a second governor term for the once loved war hero. Even the economic prosperity came from the opposite of what the Renaissance implies because the catalyst was death instead of rebirth . Woody Holton uses the writings of James Madisonand Alexander Hamiltonto expose the Founding Fathers deeper motives in writing the Constitution. The Federalist Paper No. 10 argues that a republic is capable of controlling the effects of faction, more than a democracy. The reason is that a system of representation is more capable of protecting the rights of the individuals, as well as being able to balance the needs of the public good. James Madison views many advantages of a republic over a pure democracy. A republic, Madison writes, is different from a democracy because its government is placed in the hands of delegates, and as a result of this, it can be extended over a larger area. The idea is that in a large republic there will be more fit characters to choose from for each delegate (Hollitz, 106). The chosen elites as representatives of the people will be more helpful to the public good than by the people themselves. Also, the fact that each representative is chosen from a larger number of citizens should make the vicious arts (Hollitz, 107). For instance, in a larger republic a corrupt delegate would need to bribe many more people in order to win an election than in a small republic, making it more difficult for unworthy candidates. Second, the same advantage which a republic has over a pure democracy in controlling the effects of faction by a larger over a small republic (Hollitz, 107). In the same article that was mentioned in the previous paragraph, Women s rights in Islam, Nicolau states, Being left at the mercy of man who can disavow her (the wife) at his free will, without being obliged to show any reasons determining him to do so, the Moslem woman is nothing else but a simple piece of patrimony for her husband(Women s rightsin Islam). In other words, Nicolau believes that Muslim women are humiliated and treated as objects by their husbands because husbands can initiate divorcewhenever they wish to do so. Nevertheless, this is a common misconception that most people have, which is that only men could divorce their spouse, where in reality they both could. In fact, there are mostly five primary conditions for a divorce to be issued in Islam. The first condition is by mutual consent, which is when both spouses agree to the divorce. The second condition is if a wife made it conditional at the day of the Aqd (the marital contract), that she also want to be able to initiate divorce. The third condition is divorce Khula, which is when a wife wants a divorce for no obvious reason, then she would have to return the dowry that the husband gave her, and in return, he gives her the divorce paper. The fourth condition is the divorce for a valid reason, which is if a wife has a valid reason such as any type of abuse done toward her by the husband, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark Sometimes, man is too eager to repair natural imperfections that may exist using science, rather than seeing these imperfections as beautiful natural occurrences, which will eventually lead to the destruction of nature. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark, it appears that Aylmer the main character wants to show the world that perfection is not beauty, and he demonstrates this with his wife Georgiana and that science should not alter the way that nature set man on this world to be. Hawthorne was a major asset to the transcendental movement, and this short story is a perfect example why. Nathaniel Hawthorneattempts to show the world the comparison between perfection and beauty mainly by: a psychoanalytic version of the plot and Sigmund Freuds three fundamentals. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark, the main character, Aylmer, wants to have a perfect wife. His wife, Georgiana, is a very beautiful woman with just one flaw, the birthmark on her face. As a scientist, Aylmer tries to create a solution that will get rid of Georgiana s birthmark, thus making her perfect. According to Hawthorne, however, this is not possible. During the transcendental phase of American life, which involved literature from Hawthorne, transcendental writers would support Nature and its importance. One of the new institutions of this changed world was the household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its supremacy. This resulted in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be admired and imitated, synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age of Augustus, Paul Zanker examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus, arguing that a new visual language developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster the social changes desired by the new government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living women, honorific portraits of Augustus wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their original location of display in Rome is unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to authorise such portraits by a special decree, suggests the unique nature of such public honours to women. Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from physical harm and verbal insult. The 82nd Airborne Division, which peaked at 6000 Soldiers on November 3rd, would not completely redeploy until the new Grenadian government was set up and operational. This task took exactly 48 days and the last unit from the 82nd Airborne Division landed at Fort Bragg on 12 December 1983. During this time, Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division were responsible for securing the captured enemy forces prior to returning them to Cuba and guarding both the Cuban and Soviet Embassies in an attempt to prevent the missing Grenadian leaders... The original intelligence estimates turned out to be incorrect, supplemented with Cuban Army the enemy force was much larger and better equipped than originally thought. After the dust cleared, U.S. forces suffered 19 killed in action and 116 wounded in action. Enemy casualties included 25 Cuban and 45 Grenadian forces killed in action, 59 Cuban and 358 Grenadian forces wounded in action, and 638 Cuban Soldiers captured. Adorno And Horkheimer s Essay Whilst putting Adorno and Horkheimer s essay, The Culture Industry and Benjamin s Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction into conversation, a debate had been sparked regarding the issue of artistic individualism and uniqueness. However, when the crowd allows the other Europeans to escape, Okonkwo realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the murder, Okonkwo prideful character, and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or colonizing Europeans. In this story the native Africans are depicted as vicious savages. In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebewrote Things Fall Apart through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his community. When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to protect the culture that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives. However his rigid mentality and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect, perpetuating the stereotype of the wild African in the eyes of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
