2. • You must write either a business letter, a report or a proposal. You are
given the context and the type of document you must write. There is
a text for you to read and five handwritten notes added to the text.
You must write your document and use all of the five notes on your
document.
• You have to write 120-140 words
• I recommend that you spend 35 minutes on this task because it
includes reading, planning and writing.
The Task
3. How to do it
1) Read the context given in the first line. This tells you the context of who you
are, what type of document you need to write, and who it is for/to.
2) Read the text in the material provided quickly. If the material provided is
mainly graphs and tables take a little more time than with text to make sure
that you understand the information shown in the graph or table.
3) Read the handwritten notes in detail.
4) Plan! The notes can give you ideas for the subheadings. You may include
more than one note in one paragraph, but use them all.
4. Format
• There must be a heading and subheadings, plus 3 parts: introduction, main
body and recommendations.
• 4 or 5 paragraphs will be enough.
• In the introduction, state the purpose of the proposal (or report)
• In the second and 3 paragraphs, make your suggestions, based on the
notes provided. Always justify your recommendations. There is no need to
invent much, as you have to write about something given.
• The paragraphs in the main body must have subheading. For these you can
use the names of the graphs or the notes given.
• In the conclusion, summarise your recommendations in different words.
5. Register
• A proposal should be formal and impersonal. It is possible to use I,
but using the passive is more appropriate. For example; it is
recommended is more professional than I recommend.
• A proposal talks about the present and future, making
recommendations for changes and improvements.
6.
7. Your task:
Write the proposal on write&improve. Check the corrections and
rewrite. Then write a final version on a Word document and submit it
on Siged.
