Haroun And The Sea Of Stories Essay
Haroun and the Sea of Stories Essay
Storytelling plays an important role in people s lives. In Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Salman
Rushdie explores the vital role stories have in the lives of multiple characters. Politicos need
stories in their lives in order to succeed. Without stories, the politicos would never be able to
persuade or convince voters in an interesting way. The stories Rashid Khalifa tell are a vital part
of his everyday life. Without the tales he spins, Rashid wouldn t have a job and the city he lives in
would be completely devoid of happiness. Stories have been important in the shaping of the
Haroun at the end of the book. If Haroun had no stories, his childhood would have been dark and
he wouldn t have followed the hero path. Within the fictional world of Haroun and the Sea of Stories
the characters realize that stories are not mere entertainment but are crucial to their lives.

The Common Endocrine System Malignancy
The most common endocrine system malignancy in the Unites States is thyroid cancer. The
majority of diagnosed thyroid cancers are classified as differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). More
specifically, these cancers are either papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) or follicular thyroid cancers
(FTC), with 80.2% being diagnosed as papillary and 11.4% as follicular (Avram, 2012). DTC is the
fifth most common canceramong females and has ten year survival rates of 97% for PTC and
94% for FTC (Khan et al., 2015; Marcus, Whitworth, Surasis, Pai, Subramaniam, 2014). The
majority of patients diagnosed with DTC receive a near total or total thyroidectomy. Some patients
also have lymph nodes or surrounding tissue removed as well dependent on metastases (Avram,
2012). After removal of the thyroid gland, patients can undergo radiographic scintigraphy in the
nuclear medicine department to obtain functional and anatomical information. Imaging the patient
after the administration of I 123 or I 131 can identify precise locations of radioactivity in the
entire body, which can identify distant metastases or any remaining thyroid tissue. The size and
location of radioactivity can influence whether doctors chooses surgical excision, radioactive
iodine therapy (RAI), or external radiation therapy for those areas. Planar imaging has a
sensitivity of 41%, specificity of 68%, and an accuracy of 61% compared to SPECT imaging
having rates of 45%, 89%, and 78%. With the combining of SPECT/CT,

Mallard s Point Of View
A Mallard s Point of View In The Story of an hour by Kate Chopin, the use of third person
limited omniscient is significant to the story for three main reasons. First, if it were not for the
narrator, the reader would be unaware of many details which the characters themselves would
likely have been blind to. Second, the narrator uses words which set a tone as to how the reader
should feel about Louise Mallard and her situation. Third, had the narrator been completely
omniscient, the reader would have known about the ending, thereby spoiling the surprise. A
Mallard s point of view, either Louise s or Brently s, never would have given the reader the correct
amount of information needed in order for the story to have the impact that it does.... Show more

Chopin used words and details to set a tone as to how the reader should feel about Louise
Mallard and the situation she is in. Chopin described the physical exhaustion that haunted her
body and how she was pressed down from it. She wrote There stood, facing the open window, a
comfortable, roomy armchair; into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that
haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul (547). Without third person limited
omniscient point of view, the reader would not have been able to know or feel the pain that
Louise was feeling. Chopin also describes how she felt free because of her husband s death and
how she has accepted it, she says, There would be no one to live for her during those coming
years; she would live for herself (547). This quote described how free she felt as she would be
able to live her own life. The details and words used by Chopin describe the pain and the
eventual acceptance of the death of her husband. If the story had been completely omniscient the
reader would have known about every detail. This would have spoiled the ending and the
surprise it caused as there would have been no reveal at the end. Someone was opening the front
door with a latchkey. It was brently Mallard who entered, a little travel stained, composedly
carrying his grip sack and umbrella. He had been far from the scene of the accident,

Life Of A Serial Killer
As members in today s data fixated society, we are always being reminded of the horrific acts
that people nowadays are able to commit. One watches the news and catches wind of a
homicide, or reads an interesting book about killers. The only time that the New York Daily
News has ever surpassed the New York Times, was the point at which the feature showed the true
identification of Jack the Ripper (Landau, Harding, 2014). As you wade through these odds and
ends of reality, one cannot resist the urge to be unearthed by the idea, what makes a person
effectively commit such repulsive acts? There have been wide ranges of studies done with
expectations of discovering an answer. For a crimeas heinous as serial murder, there are two
primary theories. The key notion is that serial killing is brought about by a variation from the norm

Tom Walker Archetypes
Folk tales are stories that are most often passed down orally from generation to generation. These
stories are often changed slightly due its old age and variety in versions. Details and dialogue
may differ by a speck, but one thing that never changes is the archetypes in the stories, in other
words, the common example of a character based on their role in the story. Washington Irving,
an author associated to the Romantic Era with a gothic twist in the 1800 s, is a prime example
of a folk tale with archetypical characters. The Devil and Tom Walker, published in 1824
illustrates a story of a greedy man who makes a covenant with the Devil selling his soul for wealth.
Irving uses the Old Starch, Tom and his wife as primary examples of the typical characters that
make up the story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He establishes the background of the story by stating that there was buried treasure of a passed
away pirate on the hill top guarded not only by the big black oak trees, but by the Devil himself.
In doing this, Irving establishes a scene to easily introduce the villain to the story. When the Old
Starch is brought into the spooky setting, it is much easier to identify that he is the villain looking
for a way to do malice. When the author talks about Old Starch he refers to him as a person that
should be feared and will intentionally hurt someone in the story, which is very common in other
stories for the villain to be a scary figure and end up devastating another character, which in this
case was the usurer that he took under his

Compare And Contrast Texas And Desert Cottontail
The Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) is a mammal that lives throughout the eastern parts
of Texas, according to The Mammals of Texas. The Desert Cottontail (Sylvilagus audubonii) is also
a rabbit native to Texas. The Desert Cottontail lives in the uplands of Texas on the western half of
the state, says The Mammals of Texas. Of the two, the Eastern Cottontailis the most common. A
close relative of these cottontails is the New England Cottontail. The Desert Cottontail and the
Eastern Cottontail have both evolved from the New England Cottontail to survive in their
environments. Although the Desert Cottontail and the Eastern Cottontail are very similar, they also
have differences.

They stay small to be fast and avoid predators in the wild, more often. The Desert Cottontail also is
more social than the Eastern Cottontail. The Eastern Cottontail likes to be near town and farming
areas. They feed off the vegetation, and tend to travel alone to avoid being caught.
The Eastern Cottontail breeds all year long. The Desert Cottontails have no record of breeding in
January, July or October, be do breed during every other month of the year. To make up for this, the
Desert Cottontail matures into adulthood faster than the Eastern Cottontail. The Desert Cottontail
reaches adulthood in 3 months and is ready to breed sooner than the Eastern Cottontail. The
Eastern Cottontail lives three years or less and the Desert Cottontail is only known to live up to
two years.
In conclusion, the Desert Cottontail and the Eastern Cottontail are more different than they seem.
They tend to be paired together because of their appearance, and if you look up pictures it is
difficult to differentiate between the two, but there are quite some differences. The fact is, that
even the slightest difference in an animal s habitat and environment will change its characteristics,

Charles Crick And James Watson On The Structure Of The...
In 1962, the Nobel Prize was awarded to Francis Crick and James Watson for formulating the
structure of the complex molecule known as DNA. These discoveries were a direct result of the
accumulation of many scientists earlier analyses and findings of the DNA. Before Watson and
Crick had developed the double helical structure of DNA, indication of this genetic material had
been revealed around the 1850 s. During the century following the first evidence of DNA,
subsequent researchers had been eagerly examining the physical and chemical components of this
molecule. Moreover, scientists such as Erwin Chargaff and Linus Pauling established a scientific
foundation of research for future experts like Watson and Crick to analyze and interpret. The
history of science acknowledges Watson and Crick s findings as an exclusive discovery of their
studies. However, the knowledge required to expose these innovative ideas are a culmination of
human events in which personalities and cultural traditions play major roles (Watson and Stent, 3).
Watson s personal account within The Double Helix introduces the significance of these scientific
influences on his research and discovery of the DNA molecular structure. Without major scientific
figures, such as Max Perutz, Rosalind Franklin, and Linus Pauling, the conceptualization of Watson
and Crick s DNA structure would not have successfully developed as it did in the 1950 s.

Blood Bananas: Chiquita in Columbia
As learned in class, the advantages of international business are great, but so are the risks. Some of
the risks involve ethical issues as the ones Chiquita faced doing business in Columbia. Chiquita was
the first to successfully internationalize banana trade; Chiquita did so by paying special attention to
retail development and followed industry trends. Their competitive advantage was acquired when
the company revolutionalized the banana trade by using refrigerated ships for the first time.

Before a company decides to internationalize, many researches should be done on culture, political
situation and so much more. Knowing other countries laws and regulations will prevent such
lawsuit against your company. Codes of conducts, ethics hotlines should be provided to
employees and that has to come from the top management. Companies should look at long term
goals versus short term goals; companies whose culture is to just make profits at any cost faces
these type of situation Chiquita faced often. Even though outsourcing is a great way to cut back
on costs, companies should be very careful which countries they select to outsource in to prevent
them from having a bad reputation. For example if a company chose to outsource in let s say
Nigeria, things are very corrupt and doing business, outsourcing from there could be very
profitable but in a very un ethical way. How you want to represent your firm depends on the
character of you as a CEO. Either you make unethical decisions and get profitable very fast and
get shares doubled in the wall street at any cost, or you have ethics and you rather do things right
and slowly get to profits. Strategic planning is extremely important in doing business abroad,
abiding by your core values and helping the community, making sure the public recognizes your
firm in a positive always attract customers which generate more revenues. The current CFO

Divine Intervention in Homer s Epic Poem, The Iliad Essay
The gods and goddesses that the Greek people believe in make up the
Greek mythology studied today. These divine characters represent a family
living on Mount Olympus who intervene frequently in the lives of the human
characters in Greek plays. They are omnipresent, for they are always observing
mans actions and working through human nature. The gods are a higher power, and

Athena also plays an influential role in the battles of Diomedes.
Martin Mueller reveals, Athena is closest to Diomedes. She is with him at
the beginning and end of his aristeia and she addresses him without disguise
(136). Athena also urges Diomedes to fight Aphrodite. With this command, she
removes the cloud from his eyes which made him able to see the gods.
Furthermore, as Robert Graves states, She put fresh strength into his legs and
arms, which allowed him to sustain in battle with Aphrodite (104). Athena
instructs Diomedes not to attack any other gods; but, Diomedes does not take her
advice, and fights against Apollo and other gods, which causes Diomedes to
retreat until he is saved by being reunited with Athena. This powerful goddess
assistsd Diomedes greatly as she does the other characters in The Iliad.
Another Greek warrior who is helped by Athena was Pandaros. Athena
encourages him to break the truce with Menelaos , but, as Steiner states,
This does not lessen his own responsibility for his treachery He is a fool to
be persuaded (46). Then, she switches to Menelaos side, to prevent any

technology and employed GIS is security its property in general as well as using t to track the
movement of their non fixed assets.
Purpose
The research uses a number of methodologies like assessing existing system of asset management at
UOS, interviewing fixed asset managers, carrying out literature review of GIS systems for asset
management, studying the possible methods of interfacing this data with database maintained as
GIS maps. Open Source Quantum Geographical System software was finally used to draw GIS
maps of the UOS Women campus and UOS main building. GIS can be used be used in managing
outdoor infrastructures, natural resources, and assets like cables and piping system installations
and vehicles. In construction planning, GIS can be used by facilities and property managers to
prevent costly construction delays by knowing the location of utility lines, where environmental
clearances or special permits are required, and other projects being facilitated in such locations.
With GIS, maintenance staff and ground keepers can work efficiently with an access to an

Testing a Hypothesis about Male and Female Drivers Essay
Testing a Hypothesis about Male and Female Drivers
My initial thoughts on the data are that it seems that more females are taking driving lessons than
males as seen in the pie chart below. It would also seem that as the number of 1hour lessons
increases the number of minor mistakes made decreases. Instructor B looks to be the most popular
as he is chosen the most out of the four. I am going to state 3 hypotheses based on this data and am
going to use my mathematical knowledge to support them.
Hypothesis 1: Females make more Mistakes than Males
For this hypothesis I decided to choose 60 pieces of data from the sheet, 30 pieces that are male and
30 that are female. I used the random number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After getting the groups and the number of males for each group (frequency) I found the
cumulative frequency for each. I got this by adding every frequency before each group (for the
last group you should get 30 the total amount of data). I then repeated these steps with the female s
data and am now ready to plot the graphs. To plot the graph I then took the number of the upper
bound of each group and the cumulative frequency and plotted them accordingly. For each graph I
found the median by halving the total frequency then drawing a line across from to smooth curve
drawn in the middle and down to be read of at the bottom. I also found the upper and lower
quartiles by dividing the total frequency by 4 to get the lower quartile and by multiplying the total
frequency by 3 and dividing by four to get the upper quartile. With the lower and upper bounds we
could also find the inter quartile range by subtracting the lower bound from the upper bound.
From the graphs below I found that the median for the males was less than that of the females.
Also from the graph I found that the IQR for the females was greater than the IQR for the males.
After the evidence shown above it is clear to me that I my evidence supports my hypothesis that
Females make more mistakes than Males.

language and use of words was written in a way that impacted the readers very differently than
today. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Rappaccini s Daughter, and The Jilting of Granny Weatherall

components stood out when comparing and contrasting, including character, setting, and plot.

In the short story, however, Crane is an extremely superstitious schoolteacher in Tarry Town.
The producer of the movie likely chose to make this contrast, because it allowed the watchers to
see a different perspective than what they had read previously. It probably allowed them to be
more interested in the movie because it changed the character as a whole and not just a minor
difference. In both literary pieces of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, they have the same
characters present. The producer of this movie most likely chose to keep the characters the
same in the movie as they were in the story, to help keep the story line as similar as possible and
to allow the two to relate more to each other. It also made it easier on the producer, because if he
had added or removed a character, it would have caused the plot to be changed. In Rappaccini s
Daughter, during the short story, Giovanni s feelings about Beatrice are shown many times
(Hawthorne 62 92), however in the movie, Giovanni s feelings about Beatrice are shown very
few times (D.M. dir. Rappaccini s Daughter). The producer of Rappaccini s Daughter likely chose
not to show Giovanni s feelings about Beatrice as often, because he probably felt that it looked
very repetitive

The European Age Of Enlightenment
The European Age of Enlightenment, a period when great thinkers shared innovative thoughts on
the governance and rights of man, slavery, the ultimate expression of human oppression, was
widely practiced. The development of the Atlantic trade saw millions of Africans, enslaved by white
European societies, shipped to the Americas to live a life void of liberty and dominated by misery,
an existence starkly contrasting Enlightenment ideals. Despite the commonality of the practice, the
Enlightenment movement successfully contributed to the abolishment of slavery by developing the
public sphere, opening the door for discussion and critique of society, the advancement of education
for the majority, and oscillation in social status due to the promotion of economic liberalism. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual movement of the eighteenth century that emphasized the use of
reason and the application of progressive virtues to human society. Men promoting enlightened
principles were determined to progress past the ideals of prior generations and advance the human
condition without regard or reliance on religious systems. Key Enlightenment figures advocated the
improvement of political institutions, enhancement and expansion of education, economic
development, and open mindedness to diverse ideas and beliefs. The Enlightenment maintained that
progress was a law of nature, a stance that opposed many traditionalists and the general public of

The And Of The Jewish Culture
Another way this affected the original listener was by finally opening the door to having a
personal, powerful, and intimate relationship with Yeshua. In the Jewish culture, everyone read and
studied the Torah. It was not like how it is today in the West. When speaking of knowledge, God
isn t referring to intellect most of the time. The word heart really means the mind in much of
scripture. When Jesussaid He wants His people to know Him, He means to love Him with
everything, which is shown by obeying His commandments. Love is a decision, not just an
emotion. The whole reason Jesus came back was to reestablish the connection that was lost with
the fall of man. Jesus abolished the sin barrier that had been between God and man for so long.
A Father wants a true and pure relationship with his children; God is the exact same way in the
sense of wanting intimacy. He desired this close relationship so badly that He sent His only Son,
His FIRSTBORN to bore the cross and face rejection yet again. Even when looking at the
significance of the firstborn to the Jewish culture will provide an even richer revelation to how
incredible and infinite Adonai s agape love is for His Children.
In Luke 10: 8 9, it shows that Jesus sent out His disciples to minister and told them every town and
village they entered that they were to dine and eat with people in whatever homes would accept

to the Peninsular War of 1808 1814;therefore, the war changed Goya s paints pallet from bright
colors to dark colors. Goya painted the struggle the Spanish people went through. For instance,
he painted The Third of May and The Disaster of The War series. Goya also suffered from a
severe and undiagnosed illness in ,1793, which left him completely deaf. This was another reason
leading to his darker paintings. Also Josefa s death affected Goya s painting, while he was
mentally and emotionally processing the war by painting the Second of May, 1808 and... Show

Goya s painted a man who is about to be shot, men who have just been shot, and line of men who
are about to be shot. Goya makes us see the Spanish people s faces, and their emotions, to make us
have empathy. In the other hand, the solders lined up with their backs toward us leave us with no
feeling for them. Saturn Devouring His Son is another painting by Goya. It was painted from
1819 to 1823. According to the traditional interpretation, it depicts the Greek myth of the Titan
Cronus . Saturn Devouring His Son is one of Goya s darkest paintings. It was painted directly
onto the wall of his house. The painting is about Saturn, the God of time, who was told that one
of his sons will dethrone him. In order to prevent that Saturn devoured his children as they were
born, but Jupiter escaped so Saturn in the end was dethroned and couldn t escape. This terrifying
story is depicted in a horrific way in this painting. We can see the horror in Saturn s eyes as he
pulls his son s arm into his mouth. He is trying to seek revenge, and tells us that no one can take
away what he has. Also Saturn s facial expression gives us the feeling that Saturn knows that he is
not doing the right thing, so he tries to do it as quickly as possible, he is trying not to listen to his
heart, but to listen to his head only. Although this is his son, he thinks he shouldn t feel sorry for him

The Theology Of The United Methodist Church
When I was 10 years old Rev. Holland Vaughn looked into my eyes and said, Michael, you are
going to be a pastor one day. I found his prophetic pronouncement humorous. One, because I had
no intention of ever becoming a pastor, and two because even at that age I was already running
with neighborhood gangs and engaged in very unchristian activities. As the acolyte, week after
week I carried my candle lighter and sat beside him on the altar. I watched the people laugh, cry,
fall asleep, and occasionally shout an enthusiastic amen! From the preacher s bench behind the
pulpit. I observed this master plie his trade, using tradition, experience, and reason, to bring the

We draw from that depth of tradition reaching back to the church of Pentecost, including early
creeds (e.g., Apostles and Nicene Constantinopolitan), various church councils, journeys of
Christian pilgrims, and writings of Christian thinkers (Heb 12:1 2). This diverse witness has
been shaped and preserved over the centuries of Christian teaching and reflection on the Gospel.
It contains the great triumphs and epic failures of our tradition, both of which we can learn from.
Next, our Christian experience serves as a resource. The Book of Discipline defines Christian
experience as the personal appropriation of God s forgiving and empowering grace yet also
highlights the necessary intersection of the Bible and our experience, Our experience interacts with
Scripture. We read Scripture in light of the conditions and events that help shape who we are, and
we interpret our experience in terms of Scripture. Thus, while I read Scripture through the lens of

Essay Malcom X and Non-violence
My life has always been one of changes (436). Malcolm X, throughout his life, was one of the
most influential, and quite possibly the most effective, civil rights activists of the twentieth
century. His radical ideas and views were widely sought after from the oppressed African
American population in the 1950s and 60s. The changes he underwent throughout his life affected
his views of a racist America and inspired him to lead a dedicated life preaching, what he thought
to be, the only method of promoting change in the hearts and minds of every citizen in the United
States; nonviolence. The issue of violence loomed large in Malcolm Xs rhetoric. In his speech s and
public appearances he refused to repudiate violence, realizing that... Show more content on

Anger and confusion were two very prominent themes throughout Malcolm s life with first, the
death of his father, and then the removal of his mother from their family, also under a white man
s order. Upon his arrival in Boston, Malcolm developed a strong criticism for the prejudice within
the black community that had arose in the early 1940s. He was surprised to find the judgmental
nature both classes had for each other in an attempt to increase their own status in artificial ways.
Though Hill Negroes arguably had a better quality of life than the many unemployed black
residents of Boston, their unwillingness to acknowledge the menial nature of their jobs while they
look down on the poorer blacks makes them just as snobbish as the racist whites.
Violence, ultimately, became a dominant force in Malcolm s life when he moved to the Harlem
ghettos. His anger and hostility was slowly directed from the black population towards white
America, but at the same time he blamed the black community draining the black ghetto of wealth.
Malcolm believed that wealthy white people not only exploited poor blacks on a daily basis, but
also contribute to the profound lack of opportunity in Harlem. It is for this reason he begins to
blame the white community for driving them into the spiral of crime, drugs, deceit, and poverty,
giving them no other option than the hustler s life; it wasn t much longer that Malcolm, himself,
started to run numbers across the city

Key Features Of Adaptive Institutions
2.2.3 Key Features of Adaptive Institutions
As explained above, institutional barriers can also serve as enablers of adaptation but to understand
what key features constitute adaptive institutions, the theoretical framework by Gupta et al (2008)
will be looked at since the capacity of institutions to adapt to climate change is very crucial to this
study. In Gupta et al (2008) discussion of theoretical framework, they identified three integral
qualities (variety, learning capacity and ability to adapt) of adaptive capacity and three main
contextual variables (leadership, resources and fair governance) as qualities of institutions that can
adapt to climate change. Although the main focus is on the three main contextual variables and will

2.2.3.2 Resources
Resource forms a major part of implementing climate change adaptation strategies. From the
construction of sea defense walls to the amendment of city regulation plans to incorporate
adaptation strategies, resource must be made available in order to ensure successful completion
of projects. Institutional rules and norms should call for the generation of resources in order that
social actors implementing these rules are able to do so (Gupta et al, 2008). The absence of
resources such as finances, technical knowledge and expertise, human capital and authority may
pose of problem for institutions to adapt to climate change as well as aid communities to also
adapt (Termeer, Biesbroek, van den Brink Ma 2009). 2.2.3.3 Fair Governance
The sub criteria developed to evaluate the fairness of institutions include; legitimate policy
processes, participatory public policy processes, protection of basic rights and equity,
accountability and responsiveness and transparency. Fair governance determines the room given to
social actors to participate creatively in the problem solving process (Gupta et al, 2008). Termeer,
Biesbroek, van den Brink Ma, (2009) also stated that adaptive institutions emerge from and promote
systems of fair governance that ensure justice,

Purpose Of Federalism
Federalism in the Constitution Explain what federalism is and what its purpose is.
Federalism is the division of powers between state and national governments. Federalism gave
lower levels of government power that they did not have. The purpose of federalism is to give
the people a sense of power, and essentially more liberty. However, it also allows a balance of
power by giving states the rights to make their own laws, all while still recognizing the national
government as superior.
Explain what the privileges and immunities clause is.
The privileges and immunities clause states that other states have no right to discriminate against
another state and its residents. This gives residents that relish in the privileges and immunities
clause in their state, the right to have indistinguishable treatment in other states. Additionally, a state
must not give their residents any special privileges.
Compare the differences between implied powers, reserved powers, and concurrent powers.
Implied powers are powers that are given to Congress by the Constitution in which they have the
power to make any law that is necessary and proper for conveying the foregoing powers. Reserved
powers fall under the tenth amendment, and their purpose is to reserve powers to the states.
Concurrent Powers are the powers that both the national and state governments have such as the
power to retain power for the regulation of commerce.

The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay
The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from
Great Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land
owning males. The most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so
today is the African American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were
introduced into the colony of Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in
1831 slavery was finally abolished and all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help
these newly freed slaves begin their new lives 2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose
from this new found freedom and the struggle didn t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the
founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World
War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and several supreme court cases, that African American
finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after these several legal advancements and many different
civil rights movements the playing field, after many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven
and the day by day struggles continued. Even today, 396 years later, there are still racial bias and
inequalities toward the African American community. While in the past or present changes have
been and are being made by either the executive, legislative, or judicial branch to help African
Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear

Christianity In China
In the 17th century, European missionaries and trade were allowed in China because of their
scientific and technological knowledge. Because of their stay in China, many missionaries and
traders began to adopt Chinese customs and mix them with Catholicism. A group called The
Society of Jesus served at the Imperial court because of their knowledge of astronomy and
mechanics (). Although the primary goal of the Jesuits was to spread Catholicism, they were greatly
influenced by the Chinese Confucian state (). Many of the Jesuits had adapted to Chinese religious
lifestyles because of its social influence (). An argument began among the Roman Catholic
missionaries because of the mixing of Christian and Chinese beliefs (). These missionaries argued

in no way be interpreted as heathen in nature should be allowed to continue among Chinese

tradition or custom was considered heathen to the Catholic church. Pope Clement XI stated that the
Chinese customs in managing households and governments should not be interfered with. Only
Chinese customs and traditions that did not contradict with Catholic beliefs could be practiced by
Christians. If any of the traditions or customs became contradictory, they were not tolerated under
any circumstance. Because of Pope Clement s decree, the Kangxi emperor became very angry and

Westerners are petty indeed. It is impossible to reason with them because they do not understand
larger issues as we understand them in China. (). The pope s decree negatively

Imperialism The act of stronger nations taking direct control of weaker nations in order to to create
empires economically, politically, culturally, and/or militarily. Much of Africa and Asia were under
European domination because of imperialism.
Nationalism A citizen s passionate feeling of devotion and pride for their country. Nationalism
usually suggests that a nation s people believe themselves, their ideals, and their goals to be
superior to those of other nations. Many citizens felt a rise in nationalism due to competition among
European nations for large empires.

significant role in the governments and economies of Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Because of this, Costa Rica was referred to as a banana republic (as were other countries who
depended on one primary resource for most of their economic influx).
Alfred T. Mahan Argued that the nation s economic future hinged on gaining new markets abroad.
In his view, the United States need a powerful navy to protect these markets from foreign rivals.

Introduction The Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer s day is around the most admired

recipient of the lyric, the mate of pleasant toward oneself, whom the artist is composing, is a man,
however the sonnet is generally used to portray a lady. In the piece, the pleasant toward oneself
contrasts his adoration with a June through August, and contends that his affection is superior to
summer (Kennedy Gioia). He additionally states that your beau will live everlastingly through the
expressions of the lyric. Researchers have discovered parallels between this poem and sonnets

Why Race And Ethnicity Have An Effect On Political...
People hate to be isolated. Sadly, people are the ones who actually initiates isolation. In some
way, we are harming each other. World is becoming a very horrible place; intelligent people are

People do not care about what is right, they care about what is popular and the only way to get
over this pointless view; humanity should improve as in one group. Bottom line is that political
participation may seem approachable, but the people who have the guts to talk to millions should
be awarded not shunned just because they are different.
Political participation is valid; however, we still see many problems. For instance, voter
identification requirements have a substantially negative impact on the voting power of several
voting groups. People who belong to a group which is the minority, face with some problems.
They are inhibited by the majority to keep the constant rate of vote in order to reach to success.
In other words, they are excluded from the society. There may be people who are aware of this
situation but for those who aren t should know that Texas Republicans have a reason to stop
minority voting. Ginsburg noted the motive behind the tougher ID law, which is that the state s
ruling class of mostly white Republicans is less and less representative of the state s population as
a whole. In light of the seismic demographic shift in Texas between 2000 and 2010, making Texas a
majority minority state, the District Court observed that the Texas Legislature and Governor had an
evident incentive to gain partisan advantage by suppressing the votes of African Americans and
Latinos. From this information another ugly side of humanity can be seen.

Volcanoes can be found throughout the entire world and are formed when there is a rupture in the

The Marine Corps Is An Equal Opportunity Military Branch...
George S Patton once said, Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory (
Motivational Quotes. BrainyQuote. Xplore. Web. 04 May 2016.). As a Marine I was taught to
always accept challenges that are thrown at me, and to never to give up no matter how big or small
the challenge is. If the MarineCorps is an equal opportunity military branch of service so should the
standards of its weight requirements for both males and females. Out of all of the branches of
military service the Marine Corps holds their selves to a higher standard in everything but especially
when it comes to their height/weight standards and overall appearance in their uniforms. Physical
fitness requirements and overall health plays an important part in how both men and women
Marines try to maintain their weight.
In the Marine Corps though men and women both serve together they often aren t treated the
same in certain areas. When it comes to weight standards a female and male can be the same height
but a male is allowed to weigh more than a female. For instance, taller women are allowed to weigh
more, with the weight limit set at 164 pounds for a woman who is 5 foot 8 and 184 pounds for a
woman who is 6 feet tall. By comparison, male Marines are allowed to weigh more but must
maintain a lower body fat composition . A man in the service is allowed to weigh up to 180 pounds
at 5 foot 8, and up to 202 pounds at 6 feet tall ( Female Marines May Be Allowed to Bulk up as

Analysis Of The Al Qaida Core On Afghanistan
Similar to the way that the al Qaida core in Afghanistan has centralized resources to conduct
knowledge exchanges, Ray Kroc in 1961 started Hamburger University to centralize McDonald s
resources to train new operatives of its affiliations. Although initially a program where franchise
operators were trained on the proper methods for running a successful McDonald s operation,
Hamburger University today has expanded to resemble a large scale international academic
institution. In fact, this expansion alone has made Hamburger University larger than some actual
post secondary schools in the US. For example, since 1961 Hamburger University has expanded to
include 22 regional satellite campuses and extensive virtual online resources. To put this to scale,
the core campus in Illinois employs 19 full time professors who deliver a range of curriculums
related to levels of management. Hamburger University is still a central component of McDonald s
strategy to groom the new management of its affiliate organizations. To date, the school has seen
over 275 000 graduates, completing the school s intensive curriculum at its global campuses in Oak
Brook, Illinois; Tokyo, London, Sydney, Munich, SГЈo Paulo, and Shanghai. Aside from learning
the essential methods of food preparation and customer service, franchisee operators also learn
business management skills that include proficiencies in recruiting, training and motivating its
workforce. It is also similar to an academic institution

My fighter once said, Mama always used to tell me If you can t find something to live for, you

for rapping against Racism. Tupac was the first to put thug life anywhere. Tupac was a fighter of
the darkness due to his advocacy to black children s pain, popular songs that speak against
racism, and being affected by racism. 2pac wrote many lyrics that went against racism, He
started thug life by getting it tattooed on his chest. Many people don t know it is an acronym. It

Sun Microsystem Paper
A complete analysis was conducted on the financial statements and status of Sun Microsystems.
After examining the research findings and analysis it is fair to say that evidence determines that
Sun Microsystems finances has not been on a steady incline. In fact, it had definitely experienced
some highs and lows in its return on investment and stockholders? In order to get a concise
understanding of where problems are within the company s operations the following factors were
considered and examined: the annual percentage change in net incomeper common share diluted,

Is there any dramatic shift in the ratios worthy of note?
There was not a dramatic shift in the ratios between the years of 1998 to 2000. There was
however a dramatic shift between 2000 and 2001. The ratio of price decreased by more than 50%
along with the stock price even though the book values per share increased.
In Conclusion, looking at the financial statement analysis for Sun Microsystems one can definitely
see the company s strengths and their needs. The balance sheet indicates what the firm owns and
how these assets are financed in the form of liabilities or ownership interest and the statement of
income is the major device for measuring the profitability of a firm over time
Sun Microsystems needs to implement a new plan quickly to save its company from going under
as its stockholders equity continues to decrease. It has experienced a decline in its net income
between 2000 and 2001. Not all changes were specific to Sun Microsystems. Some of these
changes were industry wide. If Sun Microsystems was to outsource some of its employees it can
save money appealing to its stockholders. Consequently, outsourcing will allow for more emphasis
and focus on product development, which can ultimately increase revenue. Sun Microsystems
should consider bringing in a consulting firm to take a look at its current business plan. Potentially,
by doing so, the consulting firm can sift through

Alaska is widely known for its vast untouched wilderness, abundant wildlife, and its coal. Sam

Mining enough coal to supply the world, would really take a toll on Alaska s climate because of
its vast environmental impact. In the article, There Is No Such Thing as Clean Coal the National
Resource Defense Council (NRDC) states that the main sources of pollution due to the production
of coal is methane emissions and particular matter emissions (2). Not only is the burning of coal
harmful to the environment, the coal transportation after it is mined also poses a huge threat. The
NRDC clarifies that diesel burning trucks, trains, and barges that transport coal spew dangerous
chemicals into the earth s atmosphere (2). Not only is it harmful to the atmosphere, but also to the
land and water if it happens to be spilled. The EPA states, truck records indicate that truck
accidents near streams are likely over the long period of mining operations (19). The addition of
these toxic emissions to the earth will greatly influence the issue of global warming on our planet
and could potentially become irreparable which would make life much harder for future generations.
Coal mining Alaska will also negatively affect its abundant wildlife. The mining of the coal will
ultimately force the wildlife out of the area, which will cause major problems. Since so much land

Management Theory Of Change Management
Introduction
Change management has been studied and researched for years with many definitions; it has been
defined by Moran and Brightman as the process of continually renewing an organization s direction,
structure and capabilities to serve the ever changing needs of external and internal customer.
(Moran and Brightman, 2001:111) It is clear that management of change is complex, dynamic and
challenging process. (Mabey, 1993) Many theories, models and techniques have been created and
aim to deliver maintainable change, but success is not guaranteed, as no model is perfect. A high
demand still exists for change literature that will identify and create a perfect change management
methodology, as the current rate of failure can be as high as 70%. (Balogen and Hope Hailey,
2004) In organizations where change has been successful, those who were responsible for the
change management have clear, shared ideas and visions of exactly where they wanted to go and
linked this closely to implementation strategies in order to achieve the results they needed.
Change is always going to exist; there is always going to be change, regardless of industry, and it
has become routine to expect change. Many organizations are often judged on their ability to
handle this change effectively and efficiently, and since the creation and use of the World Wide
Web the rate of change has increased dramatically. This essay will identify the various types of
change, reasons for resistance, and models on

These female nurses provided medical help for the wounded soldiers at Gallipoli and also on the
Western Front. As most of the hospital stations were near the front line many nurses were
exposed to aerial bombs and shelling. They were expected to work in primitive conditions; some
hospitals were equipped for a mere 520 people yet held 2500 during the wartime. As a result of the
long hours and poor conditions many nurses suffered serious illnesses. A total of 2139 Australian
nurses served overseas and of these 25 died. Through enduring such adverse conditions nurses
proved extreme dedication towards the war effort and their country. As nurses were the only women

A particularly popular attempt to assist the soldiers was that through knitting. Some 600,000 socks

Jonathan Larson Essay
Jonathan Larson
January 21. The time is around 6:45 pm. Writer, composer Jonathan
Larson was sitting in the very last few rows listening as cast he had chosen for his quot;about to be

New York Theater Workshop. He and the Director of quot;Rent quot;
Michael Grief began to sing one of the songs form the show when Larson began to feel a pain in
his chest. The pain worsened. Larson (being the compulsive worrier and hypochondriac close
friends and relatives knew him as) turned to an actor and said, quot; You better call 911. Think I m

Evening. Brian Carmody found his roommate in bed, short of breath and mumbling in a low voice.
The only food he could seemingly stomach was Jell O and some tapioca pudding.
January 23. Afternoon. Jonathan called his father in Albuquerque complaining of chest and lower
back pains and a small degree temperature. His father felt it was nothing serious.
Evening. His condition worsens. The chest pains are again excruciating.
He decides to return to the hospital. Carmody again a member of the staff says the hospital could

Instead, he is taken by way of cab to St. Vincent s, a closer hospital. When he arrived, Larson
rated his pain as being seven out of a possible 10. A nurse classified his case as quot;urgent quot;.
After some examination, he was told this was no more than a virus (due to flu like symptoms) and
it would pass.
January 25. It has been a long, hard, nerve racking day for Larson. He has just returned to his
downtown Manhattan apartment on Greenwich Avenue from the final dress rehearsal before the
preview of his On Broadway musical quot;Rent quot;.
Perhaps he was trying to relax with some nice, hot tea, or perhaps it was just to heat up some
remedy he had picked up from a stage hand in passing through the cloud of hectic activity which
consumed him that day. Larson collapsed there, in front of the stove that day, dead, and was later
discovered by Mr. Carmody.

The History of American Freedom Essay
The American Ideological Consensus is that ...the American people have shared much of the same
ideals, the same basic principles, and the same patterns of belief (McClenaghan 104). When
America filled itself with ideologically homogenous people, their beliefs started to define our nation
and became American identities. If asked what they think of America, peoples of other nations
would say that the roads are made of glass, opportunity is in the air, and civil rights are plentiful.
These accounts maybe accentuated; however, the underlying message is that the American people
have more freedoms then the peoples of other nations do. The most widely known American
identity is freedom, and even though that American identity has been tried and... Show more content

The people who immigrated to America in the 1800 s and 1900 s came because In the United States,
individuals craft their own definition of success (Friedman). Immigrants were given the
opportunity to succeed, something they probably never had back home. Here immigrants were
given free education, welfare, and healthcare, freedoms only given in America at the time. This
freedom to succeed has given many people rags to riches stories. Americans respect the self made
man or women, especially when he or she has overcome great obstacles to succeed (Friedman),
especially because immigrants who came from nothing were able to utilize their freedoms in order
to make something for themselves.
Even though freedom has been our nation s identity for its entire existence, our nation has
suffered dark ages when the freedoms of African Americans were repressed. During the period of
slavery, African Americans were forced to labor under often cruel and gruesome conditions, for
their white masters. Solomon Northup, a free man forcefully made a slave, describes his thoughts
on slavery in his 12 Years a Slave:
There may be humane masters, as there certainly are inhuman ones there may be slaves well
clothed, well fed, and happy, as there surely are those half clad, half starved and miserable;
nevertheless, the institution that tolerates such wrong and inhumanity as I have witnessed, is a
cruel, unjust, and barbarous one. (127)

The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise
The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise
Although Procon.org and Family Research Council.org (FRC.org) disagree about if or whether gay
marriage should be legal in the U.S.; they do recognize the fundamental right to be married, and the
right to be homosexual. They do however disagree on the definition of marriage and its application
to homosexuality has been challenged. It is possible that Procon.org and FRC.org which built upon
their common goals and concerns about gay marriage; that they might be able to come to terms

(Family Research Council.org). Fact not fiction, children raised without a father are more likely
to be in the penal system and more promiscuous. If we take the concept of homosexual family
and child raising out of the question, we are left with the marriage aspect still. We do not find
homosexual marriage in nature because a species will not survive, is one way to look at it. It
goes against God, is another way to look at the big picture (ProCon.org). Most of the arguments
stem from the fundamental rights to be happy and pursue life, liberty, and justice. Those same
rights are derived from our nation s belief in a Judeo Christian God and are not found in all
countries around the earth. While denying same sex marriage is believed to be against the
constitution, it is in fact not infringing on anyone s rights to happiness. The right to be gay or
homosexual is not infringed upon, but questions, is the right to be married is for everyone
(ProCon.org)? We find that both sides concede unions of some kind are beneficial to the happiness
of the individuals, but the fundamentalists and conservatives do not want the definition of marriage
to be changed. The definition of marriage is between a man and a woman by God s law and the
U.S. Some want to change that law and act more like the majority than the minority, but the
definition is clear. Why not allow them to marry

The Yorkshire Canal And The Industrial Revolution
Imagine looking outside your bedroom window in the morning smelling the bacon and eggs your
mom made you. You are peering out the window and witnessing the Yorkshire Canal being made.
You suddenly comprehend that the culture around you will be changing. It will lead to new
innovations and opportunities. The first canalever made in Yorkshire Englandin 1700, (Canal
Cruise). The canal was advancing the Industrial Revolutionby making it more accessible to get
around.
First and foremost the canal helped progress the industrial revolution by making coastal trade
faster. Moving heavy goods at sea along the coast of Britain was much cheaper than moving the
same items along the road network, and coastal trade was a key aspect of Britain s economy,
(Shirley Burchill). Coastal trade was the cheapest way to transit goods, but it was also very
slow. Between 1650 and 1750, before the industrial revolution half, a million tonnes of a canal
was moved from Newcastle in the north to London in the south, (Shirley Burchill). Therefore
since the canal was a man made water it caused coastal trade to be able to transport goods from
the north to the south of England. The type of goods transported was brick, coal, and iron, (The
Industrial Revolution and the changing face of Britain). Moreover, bricks were used for many
things, such as for houses, barriers, and tombs. Bricks were very important in the society because
when they ran out of stones there ultimate result was bricks, (History of

  • 4. Mallard s Point Of View A Mallard s Point of View In The Story of an hour by Kate Chopin, the use of third person limited omniscient is significant to the story for three main reasons. First, if it were not for the narrator, the reader would be unaware of many details which the characters themselves would likely have been blind to. Second, the narrator uses words which set a tone as to how the reader should feel about Louise Mallard and her situation. Third, had the narrator been completely omniscient, the reader would have known about the ending, thereby spoiling the surprise. A Mallard s point of view, either Louise s or Brently s, never would have given the reader the correct amount of information needed in order for the story to have the impact that it does.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chopin used words and details to set a tone as to how the reader should feel about Louise Mallard and the situation she is in. Chopin described the physical exhaustion that haunted her body and how she was pressed down from it. She wrote There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair; into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul (547). Without third person limited omniscient point of view, the reader would not have been able to know or feel the pain that Louise was feeling. Chopin also describes how she felt free because of her husband s death and how she has accepted it, she says, There would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself (547). This quote described how free she felt as she would be able to live her own life. The details and words used by Chopin describe the pain and the eventual acceptance of the death of her husband. If the story had been completely omniscient the reader would have known about every detail. This would have spoiled the ending and the surprise it caused as there would have been no reveal at the end. Someone was opening the front door with a latchkey. It was brently Mallard who entered, a little travel stained, composedly carrying his grip sack and umbrella. He had been far from the scene of the accident, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Tom Walker Archetypes Folk tales are stories that are most often passed down orally from generation to generation. These stories are often changed slightly due its old age and variety in versions. Details and dialogue may differ by a speck, but one thing that never changes is the archetypes in the stories, in other words, the common example of a character based on their role in the story. Washington Irving, an author associated to the Romantic Era with a gothic twist in the 1800 s, is a prime example of a folk tale with archetypical characters. The Devil and Tom Walker, published in 1824 illustrates a story of a greedy man who makes a covenant with the Devil selling his soul for wealth. When the Old Starch is brought into the spooky setting, it is much easier to identify that he is the villain looking for a way to do malice. When the author talks about Old Starch he refers to him as a person that should be feared and will intentionally hurt someone in the story, which is very common in other stories for the villain to be a scary figure and end up devastating another character, which in this case was the usurer that he took under his ... • 9. Charles Crick And James Watson On The Structure Of The... In 1962, the Nobel Prize was awarded to Francis Crick and James Watson for formulating the structure of the complex molecule known as DNA. These discoveries were a direct result of the accumulation of many scientists earlier analyses and findings of the DNA. Before Watson and Crick had developed the double helical structure of DNA, indication of this genetic material had been revealed around the 1850 s. During the century following the first evidence of DNA, subsequent researchers had been eagerly examining the physical and chemical components of this molecule. Moreover, scientists such as Erwin Chargaff and Linus Pauling established a scientific foundation of research for future experts like Watson and Crick to analyze and interpret. The history of science acknowledges Watson and Crick s findings as an exclusive discovery of their studies. However, the knowledge required to expose these innovative ideas are a culmination of human events in which personalities and cultural traditions play major roles (Watson and Stent, 3). Watson s personal account within The Double Helix introduces the significance of these scientific influences on his research and discovery of the DNA molecular structure. Without major scientific figures, such as Max Perutz, Rosalind Franklin, and Linus Pauling, the conceptualization of Watson and Crick s DNA structure would not have successfully developed as it did in the 1950 s. Companies should look at long term goals versus short term goals; companies whose culture is to just make profits at any cost faces these type of situation Chiquita faced often. Even though outsourcing is a great way to cut back on costs, companies should be very careful which countries they select to outsource in to prevent them from having a bad reputation. Testing a Hypothesis about Male and Female Drivers Essay Testing a Hypothesis about Male and Female Drivers My initial thoughts on the data are that it seems that more females are taking driving lessons than males as seen in the pie chart below. It would also seem that as the number of 1hour lessons increases the number of minor mistakes made decreases. Instructor B looks to be the most popular as he is chosen the most out of the four. I am going to state 3 hypotheses based on this data and am going to use my mathematical knowledge to support them. Hypothesis 1: Females make more Mistakes than Males For this hypothesis I decided to choose 60 pieces of data from the sheet, 30 pieces that are male and 30 that are female. I used the random number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After getting the groups and the number of males for each group (frequency) I found the cumulative frequency for each. I got this by adding every frequency before each group (for the last group you should get 30 the total amount of data). I then repeated these steps with the female s data and am now ready to plot the graphs. To plot the graph I then took the number of the upper bound of each group and the cumulative frequency and plotted them accordingly. For each graph I found the median by halving the total frequency then drawing a line across from to smooth curve drawn in the middle and down to be read of at the bottom. I also found the upper and lower quartiles by dividing the total frequency by 4 to get the lower quartile and by multiplying the total frequency by 3 and dividing by four to get the upper quartile. With the lower and upper bounds we could also find the inter quartile range by subtracting the lower bound from the upper bound. From the graphs below I found that the median for the males was less than that of the females. Also from the graph I found that the IQR for the females was greater than the IQR for the males. After the evidence shown above it is clear to me that I my evidence supports my hypothesis that Females make more mistakes than Males. Hypothesis 2: Females make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Jewish culture, everyone read and studied the Torah. It was not like how it is today in the West. When speaking of knowledge, God isn t referring to intellect most of the time. The word heart really means the mind in much of scripture. When Jesussaid He wants His people to know Him, He means to love Him with everything, which is shown by obeying His commandments. Love is a decision, not just an emotion. The whole reason Jesus came back was to reestablish the connection that was lost with the fall of man. Jesus abolished the sin barrier that had been between God and man for so long. A Father wants a true and pure relationship with his children; God is the exact same way in the sense of wanting intimacy. He desired this close relationship so badly that He sent His only Son, His FIRSTBORN to bore the cross and face rejection yet again. Even when looking at the significance of the firstborn to the Jewish culture will provide an even richer revelation to how incredible and infinite Adonai s agape love is for His Children. Though Hill Negroes arguably had a better quality of life than the many unemployed black residents of Boston, their unwillingness to acknowledge the menial nature of their jobs while they look down on the poorer blacks makes them just as snobbish as the racist whites. Violence, ultimately, became a dominant force in Malcolm s life when he moved to the Harlem ghettos. His anger and hostility was slowly directed from the black population towards white America, but at the same time he blamed the black community draining the black ghetto of wealth. • 26. Purpose Of Federalism Federalism in the Constitution Explain what federalism is and what its purpose is. Federalism is the division of powers between state and national governments. Federalism gave lower levels of government power that they did not have. The purpose of federalism is to give the people a sense of power, and essentially more liberty. However, it also allows a balance of power by giving states the rights to make their own laws, all while still recognizing the national government as superior. Explain what the privileges and immunities clause is. The privileges and immunities clause states that other states have no right to discriminate against another state and its residents. This gives residents that relish in the privileges and immunities clause in their state, the right to have indistinguishable treatment in other states. Additionally, a state must not give their residents any special privileges. Compare the differences between implied powers, reserved powers, and concurrent powers. Implied powers are powers that are given to Congress by the Constitution in which they have the power to make any law that is necessary and proper for conveying the foregoing powers. Political participation is valid; however, we still see many problems. For instance, voter identification requirements have a substantially negative impact on the voting power of several voting groups. People who belong to a group which is the minority, face with some problems. They are inhibited by the majority to keep the constant rate of vote in order to reach to success. In other words, they are excluded from the society. There may be people who are aware of this situation but for those who aren t should know that Texas Republicans have a reason to stop minority voting.
