Robert Ader was born in the Bronx on 20 February 1932, the elder of Nathan and Mae Ader s two
sons. He attended the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, and in 1949 entered Tulane University,
from which he graduated in 1953 with a B.S. in psychology. Immediately entering the graduate
program at Cornell University, Ader earned a Ph.D. in psychology in 1957. That same year he was

Crippled by Nancy Mairs Essays
Nancy Mairs Crippled and Strong
Throughout this passage Nancy Mairs uses the word cripple to describe who she is and the
beliefs of her condition. She does this by describing her condition in a few different ways; the
opinion of others and the opinion of herself. As anyone should she decides what her title as a
person should be and she doesn t listen or care for anyone s opinion outside of her own. Her tone is
very straightforward throughout the passage. Mairs describes her condition and how it relates to the
actions and response of other people in any situation. Mairs uses the term cripple loosely making
sure it is not offensive to anyone. By starting her passage with, I am a cripple, Mairs doesn t hide
anything. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a cripple Mairs is extremely proud to be who she is. She goes on to say, I like the accuracy
with which it describes my condition. She explains whit this that she is comfortable a certain way
knowing that any other word or any other title to describe who she is would not suit her. In the last
paragraph of the passage, Mairs begins to justify her opinion and reasoning for wanting to titled
as a cripple. Whatever you call me, I remain a cripple, she states very blunt and bold revealing
once again how she wants to be viewed by the world. She later uses the term, differently abled
which in her opinion is verbal garbage. Mairs calls it verbal garbage as a way to vent her
feelings towards the topic in general. She feels that differently abled is something that limits any
abilities that she may have. Nancy Mairs shows the world just how powerful the English
language is in this passage. She strongly shows that yes, she may have lost full use of her limits
but she refuses to pretend that the only difference between her and anyone else are the carious
ordinary qualities that distinguish any person from another. She clearly gets her point across to the
audience by letting them feel where she is coming from. Her decision to be called cripple was her
decision not chosen or influenced by anyone else. The strong, blunt, start to this passage that said, I
am a cripple, ended in the same straightforward sense. She states that,

Cotton Mather And The Salem Witch Trials
The period of the Salem Witch Trials was an extremely dark time in New England because mass
hysteria ran rampant, and over 200 people were accused of witchcraft (Blumburg). Trials were held
for the accused witches , and author Cotton Mather was given the task of documenting a number of
the trial proceedings. Mather was an esteemed adult in the Puritan community. Looking back at the
accomplishments in his early life it is quite easy to see why he was held in such high regard. Cotton
Matherwas born February 12th, 1663 to a family of highly reputed New England Puritan priests
(Walker). At only 12 years old, following in his father s footsteps, Mather began his education at
Harvard College. Mather faced many hardships and trying times throughout his life. As a child,
Mather developed a bad stammer; because of his speech impediment, many presumed that he
would never be able to enter the ministry (Franklin). Mather was also prone to nervous disorders
that drove him to ecstasy and despair (150). Along with these hindrances, he faced numerous
hardships. Mather lost his first two wives and then lost his third to insanity. As well as losing his
wives, he lived to see all but two of this fifteen children pass away. Increase Mather, Cotton s father,
was President of Harvard, where both he and his son attended. Trying to live up to his father,
Cotton aspired to become president of the college as well, but he was declined and never received
the position. Multiple peers of Mather said

Prospective Payment System Essay
Prospective payment system is a method of reimbursement in which payment rates for healthcare
services are established in advance for a specific time period. These rates are based on the average
usage of resources for those certain types of healthcare. The prospective payment system puts the
liability on the healthcare organization because the cost of the healthcare procedure can be more
expensive than the average cost. Therefore, healthcare organizations need to be methodical with the
way the treat their patients, use as little resources for the best quality of care. There are many
prospective payment systems; there is inpatient, acute care, inpatient psychiatric facility, home
health, outpatient, long term care, rehabilitation, and nursing facilities. In addition to the different
prospective payment systems, diagnosis related groups monitor quality of care and the uses of
services in a hospital. Diagnosis related groups are an inpatient classification that categorizes
patients who are similar in terms of diagnoses and treatment, age, resources used, and lengths of

Hamlet Appearance Vs Reality Research Paper
Appearance Vs Reality
Anonymity is something that makes mankind feel quite powerful, and in some cases it is to benefit
us in certain situations. Shakespeare s Hamlet is known as one of the greatest plays of all time and,
Appearance vs. reality is a major theme that is consistent throughout this play. In the play Hamlet
there are characters who are behaving and acting a certain way, while in reality their objective and
intentions are the direct opposite. Some of these characters do not realize this until the end of the
play. Most of these characters appear to be candid and sincere throughout the play, while in reality
they appear to be the complete opposite by the end of the play. Shakespeare has used five character

Why Is Vegetarianism Wrong
Vegetarianism: Because Killing Plants is OK How could a seven year old possibly make a
difference? How could a seven year old possibly make a decision for herself? How could a seven
year old survive without enough protein? These were a few of many ignorant questions that
bombarded the ears of my proud parents. Throughout my young life, I always had a deep
appreciation and passion for living creatures. So much so, that ants, crawling along the sidewalk
would captivate my attention; snakes, slithering through the sludgy, green creek water would
fascinate me. Due to my intense love of animals, the thought of harming them deeply saddened
me. At the young age of seven years old, I became a self proclaimed tree hugger, peace lover and
no meateater whom by the way, did receive enough protein. As a young child, I became a
vegetarian due to one single, overwhelming reason: animals and I are the same. We breathe the
same air, we walk among the same ground, we have complex and very real feelings and we have
families. I realized this whilst spending an afternoon in my favorite creek spot in my hometown. I
watched frogs, jump from rock to rock, crawfish scatter around the creek... Show more content on

believed in, whilst also making a difference in the world. I knew that I cared deeply about all

that did. The label, vegetarian, describes a human who does not consume animal meat. In my case,
being a vegetarian is much more than what I eat, or rather, don t eat. It is what I believe in. I
believe that animals are similar to humans in such a tremendous way, that harming an animal is
equivalent to the harm of a human. This belief, engraved in my core, leads my way as a religion
would with some people. It is the moral code in which I live

Eduard Wirths As A Doctor
During World War II, death, experimentation, and being a Jewish person was a fear that all
people had to worry about in Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1945; particularly in concentration
camps. Eduard Wirths was both a hero and an anti hero towards his patients, depending on what
stance a person takes. Wirths was known to have a sympathetic side to him that was a saving
grace for many. However, the experimentation he allowed patients to suffer through in order to
gain success for his own research is what makes him a criminal Nazi doctor. As the lead SS
doctor for Auschwitz, Eduard Wirths main duty was to oversee all that went on within the
camps, and he approved work done by others such as Joseph Mengele. Eduard Wirths was a
dedicated party member, a competent physician, and a renowned Auschwitz enemy. Eduard
Wirths was a conscientious doctor with a confused set of morals that may have been a lot more
caring than an SS doctor should have been. Growing up, Eduard Wirths family was Catholic and
had a strong set of democratic socialist values. His father, who was a medical corpsman during
World War I, often expressed that Wirths shared the same work ethic

Advantages Of White Noise Machine
Best White Noise Machine: Buyer s Guide
Noise is something that most people would not associate with a good night s sleep. First of all,
we sleep to experience a state of peaceful tranquility that differs greatly from the chaos of our
waking day. No one goes to bed thinking, I wish I could still hear my boss shouting at me or I
wish my partner could snore louder.
However, there is the kind of noise that can block of all the ugly noises that we hear on our head.
The sound of the crashing waves of the ocean or the sound of raindrops can have a calming effect
on our heads and we would gladly choose them over the sound of passing cars or bickering
neighbors.
This is precisely the reason why those who are in the business of sleep decided to create a machine
that produces calming white noise sounds that can improve the quality of one s sleep. The white
noise machine is used as a meditative device to allow the mind to focus on the soothing sound and
not on the unfiltered sounds produced by our surroundings. ... Show more content on

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay
In Achebe s book, Things Fall Apart , the life of a Nigerian man named Okowkwo is depicted. At
first look, it may seem that Okowkwo s story is the main theme of the book, but upon further
examination it is easy to see that the plight of his indigenous Igbo people are the main theme
representing what really fell apart.
Achebe introduces the reader to the intricate culture of the Igbo people from the earliest chapters in
the book. He describes rituals, laws, and religion of these people with great attention to detail
allowing the reader to further understand and identify with the Igbo people on a personal level. An
example of this is the tradition of kola nut and how it is shared when welcoming someone into a
home. Achebe writes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His punishment for this is a seven year exile for his entire family. For the reader this presents as
a sign that things are about to change and that the dynamics of the book are heading in a
different direction. At this point the reader may believe that this is the turning point in the
book, but it is merely a sign of things to come. Achebe also provides readers with another sign of
things to come in the destruction of Abame, a neighboring village located near the village of
Okonkwo s exile. A white man arrived at Abame and was later killed by the people of the Abame
village who feared he would bring about the destruction promised by the Oracle (Achebe, 1994).
The destruction of the Abame village is Achebe s first signal to readers that the people of the Igbo
may never be the same. After the destruction of Abame, missionaries arrive in Mbanta to spread the
message of their Christianity bringing along with them, the English government system (Achebe,
1994). Achebe describes the arrival in such a manner that the reader can visualize the distinct
differences between the two groups of people. The Christians are visibly more modern with a
religious foundation that is extremely different from that of the Igbo people. They also bring with
them laws that function in no way close to the Igbo culture s form of crime and punishment. When
Okonkwo hears this news he feels like

This singles out individuals that have a particular disease at a particular time (Rose, 2001) and

individual to receive help, and for the physician to intervene. The weaknesses of the high risk

Good Thinking Paper In College
Writing on a high school level, and even a college level, has become more of a race for the best
grade, rather than actually forming a good paper. The midnight masterpiece , as some put it,
have become more and more common, and many people lose the idea of the paper during this
process. I know for a fact I have struggled with this issue of beautifying essays to make them
look, for lack of a better term, professional. Just like Milo B. Beckham states in his article, . It s
all icing like the staple and the font choice layers and layers of icing on a tiny, bland cake. That
statement is a very simple way of putting this issue into words. All students alike should be asking
themselves a very important question: What s the point of having a good looking paperwhen the
content is less than stellar? Over the years my writinghas become more and more proficient and
interesting, rather than good looking and clean. I have learned to put my ideas on to paper and I
stopped lying to myself when it comes to thinking I wrote a good paper. Instead of just telling
myself the essayis fine, I actually get other people to read my work. This helps me see a different
prospective on my paper. Harry Frankfort says In the old days craftsman did not cut corners. This is

The Collapse Of International Order Under World War I
US President Woodrow Wilson encouraged the creation of the League of Nations in 1920, under the
principle of collective security. Following the collapse of international order under World War I, the
League attempted to use the power of a number of states to counteract aggression. Jones and
Sherman indicated the common belief that the more the nations, worked together to address
humanitarian, social and economic issues, the more likely they were to establish mutual interests.
thus a strong deterrent against future conflict. (Jones and Sherman, 1927, p.140) War was to be
prevented by encouraging disarmament and defusing conflict between states through moral
pressure and economic sanctions. Despite defusing minor conflicts and helping advance human
rights; the League of Nationsultimately failed to achieve its key objective, to prevent the outbreak
of war on the same scale as World War I. Carr s 20 years crisis implies that it was the events of post
world war I including the impact of the League that subsequently led to World War II. (Carr, 1939
cited by Jorensen, p.60) However, the organization was an improvement from the traditional
balance of power and congressional system, it left a legacy in upholding human rights through the
United Nations.
One of the main objectives in establishing the League of Nations was to ensure that the Treaty of
Versaille was upheld. Not only did the League fail to hinder Germany militarily, but it increased the
threat it posed in continuing

Compare and contrast T-cell development with B-cell...
Introduction
The developmental routes for these cells are very complex and unique but there are similarities. B
cells produce antibodies to bind onto foreign bodies that have invaded the host organism; this
allows cells such as cytotoxic T cells will then destroy the infected cell/structure. On the other hand,
T cells such as T helper cells that secrete cytokines to control immune responses and cytotoxic T
cells that destroy pathogenic cells and structures.
B Cells
B cells develop from pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells, which give rise to lymphoid progenitor
cells in the bone marrow. These stem cells have become Pro B cells when they have begun to
express B cell marker proteins such as CD34 and rearrange the genes that code for the ... Show

A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed
in the cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating
into the thymic cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a
lineage so can still mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial
lymphocytes and regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only
express c kit (CD117) and CD25 on their cell membrane.
DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for
the gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The
alpha chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its
gene. In this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25
on their membranes declines.
At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as О±ОІ
or ОіОґ T cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of
the ОІ TCR gene. If a cell chooses to become a ОіОґ T cell, it finishes development here and enters
the periphery. Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the
pre TCR is expressed on the cell surface.
The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. Here, the alpha gene of

Necrophilia Murder
Necrophilia and its Relation to Murder Necrophilia is defined as, recurrent sexually arousing
fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving intercourse with dead bodies (Colman, 2009)
Necrophilia in the past has been something that presented itself as an opportunity because of where
someone worked. Professions that had people dealing with corpses on a daily basis lead to a form
of comfort around the bodies, then when a person became curious they would start to experiment
with the bodies. There are rumors that this was popular with the embalmers of ancient Egypt and
that it became necessary that the bodies of highly born women were not embalmed immediately
after deathbut allowed to become slightly putrid, as a deterrent. (Blakemore, Jennett, 2001) Krafft

Lastly, Necrophilic fantasy is thinking about having sex with a corpse but never acting on those

childhood trauma. Sometimes this can result from a humiliation, often from the mother, in regards
to the human body. (Lemma, 2013) It leads to again, the conclusion that the base of necrophilia is
to have a subject that is incapable of resistance or of rejection. Referring back to Ted Bundy, his

The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People There Are A...
Have you ever thought about what you re doing in Your future? What are your plans? are you
proactive or un proactive? Well in the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People There are a
lot of things by Stephen Covey It can tell you if you re doing the right things with your life or
not, and can get answers in the following 7th habits of life. Are you proactive ? do you do things
without being asked to ? are you able to brush things off without getting offended or getting mad
when someone tell you something ? Each day you and I get about 100 chances to choose
whether to be proactive or reactive. by Stephen Covey. You get chances all the time to make
choices. Some people choose to be proactive and do the right things. For example if your know
you have to clean the house, why wait until your mom has to tells you and start yelling at you. It
s better to be proactive and do it without her telling you. You can use this habit in so many ways.
The proactive approach to a mistake is to acknowledge it instantly, and learn from it and not
letting it happen again. you have the freedom to choose your response and to choose your action
no one can choose them for you so, if your do something that s not right why complain and argue,
yes you can but, at the same time you were the one to choose your actions. There are so many
things in life that can put you down and make you upset. You should always take responsibility
for your choices and that s the problems with today s humans in this world. Trying to point the
finger at someone else, even tho they already know it was there fault. You re probably asking
why ? that my question for so long but still not being able to get the answer, but i ll tell you my
side of the point. You should always bounce back when you get hurt or get upset look at the
positive side there is always a really big reason why things happen. There always people that
start crying and just putting all there stressed on them and acting if something will change just
by them crying. My mom all ways told me to draw my own path and turn left and never followed
what people try telling me even if it s good . See my dad use to work for a company and that

Herpes Simplex 1 Symptoms Natural Treatment
There is a old misconception Herpes Simplex 1 only infects above the belt by manifesting as cold
sores. Herpes Type 2 was previously considered below the belt and caused genital lesions.
However, the medical profession has found oral genital contact can spread either, so that types of
herpes have become virtually insignificant.
Let s define herpes. It is very contagious. It is transmitted by bodily fluids. Proper hand washing
precautions should be taken to keep the virus from a cold sore from spreading to the genitals. The
first time herpes symptoms appear is called the primary occurrence and it worse than recurring
outbreaks.
Symptoms generally occur within 4 7 days after contact. Initial symptoms are burning, chronic itch
or tingling. In a couple of days, pimply sores pop up on reddish skin. Later, the pimples
metamorphose into agonizing blisters.
When the blisters burst, they secrete blood and yellowish pus. Approximately a week after the first
symptoms, scabs form, which signals healing has begun.
While it is rare, it is possible for Herpes to spread to the eyes. This requires the speedy attention of a
medical professional.
A person can be infected and not know it. Symptoms may not show for some time following
contact, yet the person can still be contagious. This is because viral shedding occurs during the
tingling stage.
Of course, people who have active lesions shed the virus and are contagious.

The Difference Between Colonies And Empires
Present day history has different lineages which often leads to different colonization s and
empires. This may pose the question: what is the difference between colonies and empires.
According to ancient history encyclopedia an empire is the political construct in which a state
dominates over another or a series of state. In true empire method, an emperor is the ruler of said
empire however, history shows that many empires ran without a sole emperor. Colonization is
defined as initiating dominance over a group of indigenous people. Over time history shows the
revolt against both empires and colonization. This paper aims to show the changes that occur
within different countries in regard to the previous reign of empires and colonization. An empire
that is well known through history would be the Inca empire. It is estimated they had roughly
six to twelve million people within their society. The empire was just about 2,400 miles and to
give an idea would start at the border of Ecuador and reach to Colombia. The empire was so well
off it is historically known as the biggest empire of Latin America and indigenous people. The
empire took roughly 200 years to be successful and officially reigned between 1400 and 1533 C.E.
The empire remained successful due to their work on their interrelationships and response to
outside interference. Their main focus was on diplomacy often working out their hardships through
gift exchanges, marital agreements or political alliances. If this

Summary Of Celia A Slave

Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report
The federal and state policies
In the 19th century, the south part of the US exercised high levels of slavery, and this made even
the southern state laws and policies to be amended. However, the northern part was not in support
of slavery, and this made the federal laws and policies to have a great contradiction with the
southern states laws, for example, Missouri state laws. According to the book Celia, A Slave
authored by Melton McLaurin s which is a 1991 series, there were a lot of changes that were
made on the law in 1819 (McLaurin, 1991). These rules had an enormous impact both positive
and negative in the case of Celia, the slave girl. In the states of Missouri in 1855 which is the same
year that Celia killed her master and burned his body in her fireplace, the state has passed a policy
that it was illegal and a crime for any man to take any woman unlawfully against her wish and will.
The law allowed women being taken by force by men to satisfy their sexual urges to act in self
defense even if the action of self defense resulted in the death of the man. It was also passed that
it was a criminal offence for any person to attack a person intentionally hence causing harm or
even death of the person (McLaurin, 1991). On the federal level, the constitution has abolished the
slave trade and stated that all people had equal rights and protection. Also, the federal and state
policies had been passed that murder or attempted murder was illegal and punishable by the law.
These policies and laws had been created and implemented to demolish slave trade and promote
human rights. All these policies that had been passed could affect Celia s trial but mainly in a
contrary manner due to the intentions and the manner the crime was committed.
The state law that favored Celia was the one claiming that it was wrong and legally unacceptable
for a man to take any woman by force and that the woman had the right to retaliate acting in self
defense. This is a law that could have been used to prove that the action Celia took was in self
defense and that she did not have prior motives for killing her

Child Study Examples
My child study was inspired by the richly textured collages of Romare Bearden. I created an
appropriate lesson plan for the developmental level of a third grade student. The student that I
worked with was Leanna, she goes to PS.29. She is eight years old, and she loves to to dance and
be creative. As a third grade student, Leanna does not have art class. Arts and crafts are done
sporadically throughout the schoolyear and sometimes during lunch. As a lover of the arts,
Leanna really doesn t like that her school doesn t offer her art classes. When asked, she said her
favorite form of art is origami. She loves to create origami hearts for valentine s day. It is really
unfortunate for creative students, like Leanna to be deprived from applying their creativity in art
classes.
After presenting the lesson to Leanna, she knew what she wanted to create. Once I gave her the
supplies, she took the magazines and started flipping through them right away. She chose a brown

illustrations of the collages Bearden has created. It also includes information about him and his
artwork. Showing Leanna, the diversity of Bearden s collages really helped her get inspired to
create her own collage. It also inspired me to create a fun and appropriate lesson plan for Leanna.

Essay Review of Shrek
Review of Shrek In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts; they are regarded as
being one of the most evil and hideous creatures in fairytales. The prince is derived as a
charming and handsome young man who is on a quest to rescue a beautiful Princess who has
been held captive for many years in a tall tower, guarded by a fire breathing dragon, awaiting the
arrival of a brave Prince.
The makers of Shrek have decided to reverse the tradition of a stereotypical fairy tale, by creating a

imposing ruler.
Many of the traditional fairytale creatures are visible in this such as the three bears, Pinochio.
Many of these fairy tale creatures use lines from there stories for example baby bear (from the three

A talking donkey is taken for trade by his owner. As the donkey refuses to talk the lady who

who have been ordered to capture the fairytale creatureson behalf of Lord Farquaad, persue him in
order to try and capture him. As Donkey continues to run through the forest he bumps into Shrek.
The gurads catch up and the Commander reads a telegram written by Lords Farquaad demanding
that both Donkey and Shrek give themselves up to be captured.

Switzerland evolved over many centuries from a loose alliance of small self governing towns and

Despite periods of political, social and religious unrest, unity prevailed in the Old Swiss

Race and Oppression have been a really interesting topic in this course, this topic has been

essentialism has been shown through how Richard was mistreated because of his skin color. He

The Case Of The Australian Legal System
Due to negative aspects that were presented in cases such as the Corey Davis case, the
effectiveness of the Australian Legal System in accomplishing justice began to be viewed to
demonstrate flaws in certain occasions by the Australian public. The Australian legal system
aims to achieve equality and fairness towards the citizens of Australia to avoid anarchy within
the nation. This is accomplished by set rules and laws that are created by the government.
However, if these rules and laws are to be broken by an individual or a group of people living
within the borders of the country, they may face legal consequences that include getting a fine,
imprisonment, a life sentence or in some occurrences, a combination of these forms of
punishment. In the Corey Davis case, an eleven year old boy that is identified as W is sent to

Davis case will be further explored as well as the involvement of the police, the conduct of the
court system throughout the investigation of the case and its influence in achieving justice, and a

whether it is appropriate for modern society will be discussed as the Corey Davis case raised

What Is Josiah Royce The Parable Of The Good Samaritan
Josiah Royce writes about the moral understanding between our neighbors and ourselves. Royce
explains how we, a community, do not see other people, our neighbors, as true as ourselves. As
time goes on it appears that we come from selfish place, a place where we do not view others as
unlimited, influential, or genuine as we view ourselves. Royce rationalizes how shame and
compassion are not enough to achieve moral insight. Royce and The Parable of the Good
Samaritan mesh in many ways, they both relay the same message, treat others as if they are your
closest friend, feel what they feel, love how they love regardless of who they are. The parable of
the Good Samaritan is triggered by a conversation between Jesus and a Lawyer. The notary seeks

The Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, And Conflict Theory
Faith Williams Dr. Whitman Sociology Abstract This review connects three theoretical frameworks.
The first theoretical framework is the symbolic interactionism. This focuses mainly on how the
individual interacts with others, and how others influence the individual behaviors that impact
society in a micro or macro way. The second theoretical framework is the conflict theory, it
examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health
care, and living condition of said group. Thirdly, the functionalist theory, which compares society
to a system of interrelated parts, it s a social system not just an individual. Each frame work plays
part in the issue when an economy declines which causes many families to lose their jobs. Single
mothers lose their jobs and go into prostitution as a mean of support.CHAPTER I:
INTRODUCTION In this review there are three main paradigm: Functionalist theory, symbolic
interactionist theory, and conflict theory. The functionalist theory compares society to a system of
interrelated parts. It looks at society more as system not as an individual. Symbolic interactionism
focuses on how the individual interacts with others in a society and how others influences that
individual; what impact does that have on a society. Conflict theory examines the rift between the
rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living condition of
said group. In this review

The Science Fiction Genre And Genre Essay
The science fiction film genre has been around almost as long as movies have, but like the cinema
it is still a fairly young art form. This genre came into existence shortly after the invention of the
movie camera in 1888 and has endured for over one hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it
changes with the times and this trend can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural
history and technology. This essay will attempt to define the genre, chronicle the history and
evolution, and explore its relation to technology. This is in general and in the cinema.
When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction between science
fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies span between the science fiction
genre and other genres. Movies such as The Ring (2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992,
1997) illustrate how the distinction between science fiction and horror films can be obscure.
(Telotte 46) Some comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very
much science fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction film fitting into
almost any genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and Outland (1981) resembles a
western in many respects. (Telotte 45)
The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down. A genre such
as the western has easily identifiable characteristics such as cowboys, guns, the wild west, and bad

Dare Case Study
#11. The previous research given makes it seem doubtful that the DARE program is working. I
understand it s useful to have both sides in an article, but the evidence done over a 10 year span.
That makes the current study look pointless to do, because we can always develop new programs
if the current one such as DARE is not working.
2. The return rate of the surveys is surprisingly low. This is not adequate information, because the
people who returned the surveys are mostly likely on opposite spectrums. The parents either really

I do not think the reading comprehension test was adequate, since it was only a 10 item test.
Quizzes can be helpful to show how students are performing, but that does not represent a multi
chapter exam. A 50 question exam would better represent not only the students comprehension of
the material but their ability apply it and remember it.
5. I thought the researchers use of multiple scales was very helpful to provide more evidence. In
psychology, we are testing for ideas or concepts that are not observable. It s important to rely on
more than one type of research to capture these changes in scores or perception. It also gave the
study a higher chance of showing a significant difference.
6. The absence of a control group is a crucial downfall. There is no comparison that can be done
between the groups. The researchers could have at least included compared scores of a
neighboring school for reference. Although this is a research article, the lack of a control group
makes this not a true experimental

Post Classical Islam Dbq
During the Post Classical Era, the leadership of Prophet Muhammad aided in the creation of the
religion of Islam. Unlike any other religion, Islam spread exponentially through trade routes,
appealing to the needy and conquest of new areas. As the religion began to gain massive coverage
across Afro Eurasia, it impacted the Post Classical World both politically and culturally. During the
Post Classical Era, the spread of Islamled to significant political effects such as rise of caliphates,
sultanates and empires that expanded to new areas. Furthermore, the spread of Islam had various
cultural contributions such as spread of new traditions and arts. During the Post Classical Era, Islam
was able to spread throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document 3 was written by a renowned Sufi Islamic poet named Rumi, and it was about a
mystical encounter with the divine. Since the author is a dedicated Muslim, it makes sense that
he is appealing to non believers to convert using his art of poetry. Thus, as a result of the spread
of Islam, arts like poetry were enhanced in the Post Classical World. However, Document 4
directly contradicts the perspective of Document 3 because it de campaigns the cultural
contributions of Islam and renders the spread of Islam as immoral and inferior. Document 4 was
written by a Christian ambassador to the court of Sultan Suleyman, named Ogier Ghislen de
Busbecq about his memoirs in the mid 1500 CE. It makes sense that he depicts the Islamic customs
negatively because he exposes the undermining of women and polygamy practiced in Islamic
society. Thus, the spread of Islam diffused Islamic social customs and traditions such as polygamy.
On the other hand, Document 6 corroborates the argument of Document 3 as it suggests that Islam
led to the enhancement of arts such as sciences. Document 6 was written Hunain ibn Ishaq, a
Muslim scientist of the Abbasid Empire. This document was a document in Ishaq s medical
journal. The authors conveys how the spread of Islam led to advances in education and sciences,

The Death Of The Barn
I can still remember the day that my dad made a dream of mine come true. One night my family
was sitting down for supper when my dad said, Oh, and by the way Sarah you can have a goat this
summer. At that point I just looked my dad and laughed. I thought he was joking, I had been asking
for a goat for about three years. He had proclaimed multiple times throughout my childhood that I
would not be getting a goatanytime soon. I guess my time had come. Within a few mouths it was
May, I had set up a wired pen for my goat and could barely contain my excitement as we went to go
pick up my goat.
My dad and I arrived at the place to pick up my goat. The goat lived in a red barn on an anchorage
with a nice middle aged man named Blaine. Blaine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That day I discovered that goats are very stubborn animals. For five minutes I dragged him around
until I forced him back to his pen. Little did I know that more frustrating times would come with
raising Beans as my show goat.
As time passed and the days grew warmer and longer, Beans and I became better friends. He
would let me pet him when he was in his pen, but when I tried to enter or leave his pen he would
attempt to get out. He never really succeeded until one humid afternoon.
I was feeding Beans and had left the pen to retrieve his ice cold water from the hydrant near the
hog barn. After getting the water I went back to his pen and poured it in the trough. Once I had
finished, I opened the gate, stepped out and tried to get the clunky five gallon pail through the
gate. Instead of getting the pail out, Beans ran out as fast as a cheetah chasing a gazelle. I chased
Beans all over the farm. We weaved in and out of the equipment that had been dormant because
planted season had ended months ago. I ran all over the green knee high tall oat plants in the field,
when Beans made the fatal mistake of running in the inside of the green old rake.
The rake is rectangle shaped with one side open and the other side closed off by a wall of rake
spikes. The rake s butt end rested on the ground, preventing Beans from crawling out. Very
carefully I approach Beans. The last thing I need is him dodging me and running away again. I
reached Beans and picked him up.

Opposition To Thatcherism
Assess the reasons for opposition to Thatcher s social and economic policies.
Introduction:
Thatcherism gained lots of opposition due to her social and economic policies. Her focus on
reducing inflation and creating a self sufficient society meant that unemployment rose. Also, those
who did benefit from her policies such as privatisation encouraged the gap between the rich and
poor to grow. Ultimately the growth of the get rich quick, capitalist society in the most important
criticism of Thatcher as it links in with many of the other points of opposition
Unemployment:
Thatcher s lack of policy for unemployment caused it to increase between 1979 and 1983 to over 3
million. In fact it was higher that the post war record furthermore, the spread of unemployment was
unevenly distributed with the majority in the North. Even by the end of the Conservative
government rule, the unemployment figures failed to recover after the 1981 recession. In addition,
Thatcher allowed communities to remain unemployed, as the main priority was inflation. This
caused social tension especially in inner city areas, such as riots in Brixton. Unemployment was
such a renowned criticism of Thatcherism as she focused more on the economic state of Britain.

Some businesses were run in the interests of big shareholders rather than for the national benefit.
Furthermore, shares were done too cheaply meaning it did not maximise governmental sums hence

capitalist ownership of businesses increased from 3 million in 1979 to 11 million. Privatisation
created a private monopoly, which would exploit customers. This policy only favoured the rich

Sexual Identity And Sexuality
Sexual Identity is what a person is attracted to sexually and emotionally. People tend to
categorize others depending on their choice of sex. A recent study on the article, Lesbian
Identity Performances in the Workplace, Social Class, and Psychological Health by Elizabeth
McDermott (2006), has shown that people rather not identify their sexual identity so they can
be welcomed into their workplace. But, it should not matter about a person s sexuality because
it would not make them less of a man or woman to perform their job. Elizabeth McDermott is a
Senior Lecturer at Lancaster University; whose research is categorized with mental health
inequality in relations to age, sexuality, gender, and social class. Another study was conducted
on an article with teenagers; .... It s a big deal stresses and strains of managing sexual identity(s)

themselves. McDermott (2006) did a study about Lesbian women identity performances in the

African Influences In Latin American Music
On November 9, 2017, the Brazilian group Sol e Mar visited our class to share with us the diverse
music of Brazil. One of the first things the speaker explained, that was already explained in a class
lecture, was that in colonies with Catholic colonizers, African customs were kept, unlike some
Protestant colonies where the African customs were forbidden by the colonizers. As a result, in
Catholic colonies, mainly in Latin America, the African population was able to maintain their
culture and music. Today, one can the African influences in Latin American music. In addition, the
guest also explained that due to the immense size of Brazil, there are many influences and different

There is a subgenre of Samba known as Batucada that has exploded to many countries. One of the
famous groups that represents this genre is Olodum, who also collaborated with Michael Jackson
in the song They don t care about us . Furthermore, the influences of the Batucada have spread to
soccer stadiums ranging from Argentina all the way up to Mexico. For soccer games the hardcore
fans organize drumming ensembles which mix Batucada and Murga(from Argentina) styles, along
with singing to show their support for their team. Moreover, what shocked me, was that American
Jazz had a major influence in the development of a new genre in the 1950 s. This new genre was
Bossa Nova, which can be translated to new wave. JoГЈo Gilberto is popularly known as one of the
first pioneers of making Bossa Nova popular not only in Brazil, but also in the Unites States. Our
guests played two of the most popular Bossa Bova songs, the songs were Garota de Ipanema and
Mas que nada . Out of these two songs the only one I heard before was Mas que nada , since it has

The Commanalities of Plan and Form in Thomas Herzog s...
The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, is Thomas Herzog s own home; one can
declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for the site
itself, is referred to as his Wohnhaus in Regensberg (1979), with its steep, ground sweeping pitched
roof, is content to get its summer shading from the tree canopy above . (Rattenbury, et al., 2004)
Throughout this essay I will analyse Thomas Herzog s House at Regensburg explaining the
commonalities of plan and form, also looking at different themes and principles behind different
aspects of the house. Also looking at how the houses are syncing in with the environment, in
comparison to two other houses during the twentieth century.
The house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herzog s first low energy house, is the vice versa of having the characteristics of traditional
culture/customs or being constructed in a plain and simple fashion. Thus creating a new
invention, a design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at
Regensburg has the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies,
C. 2006) whilst using wood that is seen as non typical Modernist material. The appearance loses
the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the
hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the
house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground.
Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of
the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to
heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving
features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house
like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics.
Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times, but this was always an
addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two storey
house with a

  • 4. Crippled by Nancy Mairs Essays Nancy Mairs Crippled and Strong Throughout this passage Nancy Mairs uses the word cripple to describe who she is and the beliefs of her condition. She does this by describing her condition in a few different ways; the opinion of others and the opinion of herself. As anyone should she decides what her title as a person should be and she doesn t listen or care for anyone s opinion outside of her own. Her tone is very straightforward throughout the passage. Mairs describes her condition and how it relates to the actions and response of other people in any situation. Mairs uses the term cripple loosely making sure it is not offensive to anyone. She explains whit this that she is comfortable a certain way knowing that any other word or any other title to describe who she is would not suit her. In the last paragraph of the passage, Mairs begins to justify her opinion and reasoning for wanting to titled as a cripple. Whatever you call me, I remain a cripple, she states very blunt and bold revealing once again how she wants to be viewed by the world. She later uses the term, differently abled which in her opinion is verbal garbage. Mairs calls it verbal garbage as a way to vent her feelings towards the topic in general. She feels that differently abled is something that limits any abilities that she may have. Nancy Mairs shows the world just how powerful the English language is in this passage. She strongly shows that yes, she may have lost full use of her limits but she refuses to pretend that the only difference between her and anyone else are the carious ordinary qualities that distinguish any person from another. She clearly gets her point across to the audience by letting them feel where she is coming from. Her decision to be called cripple was her decision not chosen or influenced by anyone else. The strong, blunt, start to this passage that said, I am a cripple, ended in the same straightforward sense. She states that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cotton Mather And The Salem Witch Trials The period of the Salem Witch Trials was an extremely dark time in New England because mass hysteria ran rampant, and over 200 people were accused of witchcraft (Blumburg). Trials were held for the accused witches , and author Cotton Mather was given the task of documenting a number of the trial proceedings. Mather was an esteemed adult in the Puritan community. Looking back at the accomplishments in his early life it is quite easy to see why he was held in such high regard. Cotton Matherwas born February 12th, 1663 to a family of highly reputed New England Puritan priests (Walker). At only 12 years old, following in his father s footsteps, Mather began his education at Harvard College. Mather faced many hardships and trying times throughout his life. As a child, Mather developed a bad stammer; because of his speech impediment, many presumed that he would never be able to enter the ministry (Franklin). Mather was also prone to nervous disorders that drove him to ecstasy and despair (150). Along with these hindrances, he faced numerous hardships. Mather lost his first two wives and then lost his third to insanity. As well as losing his wives, he lived to see all but two of this fifteen children pass away. Increase Mather, Cotton s father, was President of Harvard, where both he and his son attended. Trying to live up to his father, Cotton aspired to become president of the college as well, but he was declined and never received the position. Multiple peers of Mather said ... How could a seven year old survive without enough protein? These were a few of many ignorant questions that bombarded the ears of my proud parents. Throughout my young life, I always had a deep appreciation and passion for living creatures. So much so, that ants, crawling along the sidewalk would captivate my attention; snakes, slithering through the sludgy, green creek water would fascinate me. Due to my intense love of animals, the thought of harming them deeply saddened me. At the young age of seven years old, I became a self proclaimed tree hugger, peace lover and no meateater whom by the way, did receive enough protein. As a young child, I became a vegetarian due to one single, overwhelming reason: animals and I are the same. • 9. Eduard Wirths As A Doctor During World War II, death, experimentation, and being a Jewish person was a fear that all people had to worry about in Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1945; particularly in concentration camps. Eduard Wirths was both a hero and an anti hero towards his patients, depending on what stance a person takes. Wirths was known to have a sympathetic side to him that was a saving grace for many. However, the experimentation he allowed patients to suffer through in order to gain success for his own research is what makes him a criminal Nazi doctor. As the lead SS doctor for Auschwitz, Eduard Wirths main duty was to oversee all that went on within the camps, and he approved work done by others such as Joseph Mengele. Eduard Wirths was a dedicated party member, a competent physician, and a renowned Auschwitz enemy. Eduard Wirths was a conscientious doctor with a confused set of morals that may have been a lot more caring than an SS doctor should have been. • 11. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay In Achebe s book, Things Fall Apart , the life of a Nigerian man named Okowkwo is depicted. At first look, it may seem that Okowkwo s story is the main theme of the book, but upon further examination it is easy to see that the plight of his indigenous Igbo people are the main theme representing what really fell apart. Achebe introduces the reader to the intricate culture of the Igbo people from the earliest chapters in the book. He describes rituals, laws, and religion of these people with great attention to detail allowing the reader to further understand and identify with the Igbo people on a personal level. For the reader this presents as a sign that things are about to change and that the dynamics of the book are heading in a different direction. At this point the reader may believe that this is the turning point in the book, but it is merely a sign of things to come. Achebe also provides readers with another sign of things to come in the destruction of Abame, a neighboring village located near the village of Okonkwo s exile. A white man arrived at Abame and was later killed by the people of the Abame village who feared he would bring about the destruction promised by the Oracle (Achebe, 1994). The destruction of the Abame village is Achebe s first signal to readers that the people of the Igbo may never be the same. After the destruction of Abame, missionaries arrive in Mbanta to spread the message of their Christianity bringing along with them, the English government system (Achebe, 1994). Achebe describes the arrival in such a manner that the reader can visualize the distinct differences between the two groups of people. The Christians are visibly more modern with a religious foundation that is extremely different from that of the Igbo people. They also bring with them laws that function in no way close to the Igbo culture s form of crime and punishment. When Okonkwo hears this news he feels like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following the collapse of international order under World War I, the League attempted to use the power of a number of states to counteract aggression. Jones and Sherman indicated the common belief that the more the nations, worked together to address humanitarian, social and economic issues, the more likely they were to establish mutual interests. thus a strong deterrent against future conflict. (Jones and Sherman, 1927, p.140) War was to be prevented by encouraging disarmament and defusing conflict between states through moral pressure and economic sanctions. Despite defusing minor conflicts and helping advance human rights; the League of Nationsultimately failed to achieve its key objective, to prevent the outbreak of war on the same scale as World War I. Carr s 20 years crisis implies that it was the events of post world war I including the impact of the League that subsequently led to World War II. A lymphoid progenitor will begin to develop into a T cell if the Notch1 protein is overexpressed in the cell. During the double negative 1 (DN) phase of development, the cells are migrating into the thymic cortex as pro thymocytes from the bone marrow. They are yet to commit to a lineage so can still mature into other types of T cell such as natural killer T cells, intraepithelial lymphocytes and regulatory T cells. Also, the cells are yet to express CD4+ or CD8+ and only express c kit (CD117) and CD25 on their cell membrane. DN2 is a vital phase, it occurs in the subcapsular cortex of the thymus. It is here that the genes for the gamma, delta and beta T cell receptor (TCR) chains [3] start their rearrangement process. The alpha chain does not commence its rearrangement, as the recombinase machinery cannot reach its gene. In this phase, cells fully commit to the T cell lineage and the expression of c kit and CD25 on their membranes declines. At the DN3 stage also in the subcapsular cortex, the thymocytes begin their development as О±ОІ or ОіОґ T cells is made. This decision is made by the successful completion of the rearrangement of the ОІ TCR gene. If a cell chooses to become a ОіОґ T cell, it finishes development here and enters the periphery. Once this lineage choice has been made, the expression of CD25 is halted and the pre TCR is expressed on the cell surface. The DN4 phase is the last stage of early T cell development. Herpes Type 2 was previously considered below the belt and caused genital lesions. However, the medical profession has found oral genital contact can spread either, so that types of herpes have become virtually insignificant. Let s define herpes. It is very contagious. It is transmitted by bodily fluids. Proper hand washing precautions should be taken to keep the virus from a cold sore from spreading to the genitals. The first time herpes symptoms appear is called the primary occurrence and it worse than recurring outbreaks. Symptoms generally occur within 4 7 days after contact. Initial symptoms are burning, chronic itch or tingling. In a couple of days, pimply sores pop up on reddish skin. Later, the pimples metamorphose into agonizing blisters. When the blisters burst, they secrete blood and yellowish pus. Approximately a week after the first symptoms, scabs form, which signals healing has begun. While it is rare, it is possible for Herpes to spread to the eyes. This requires the speedy attention of a medical professional. A person can be infected and not know it. Symptoms may not show for some time following contact, yet the person can still be contagious. This is because viral shedding occurs during the tingling stage. In true empire method, an emperor is the ruler of said empire however, history shows that many empires ran without a sole emperor. Colonization is defined as initiating dominance over a group of indigenous people. Over time history shows the revolt against both empires and colonization. • 26. Summary Of Celia A Slave Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report Name Institute Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report The federal and state policies In the 19th century, the south part of the US exercised high levels of slavery, and this made even the southern state laws and policies to be amended. However, the northern part was not in support of slavery, and this made the federal laws and policies to have a great contradiction with the southern states laws, for example, Missouri state laws. According to the book Celia, A Slave authored by Melton McLaurin s which is a 1991 series, there were a lot of changes that were made on the law in 1819 (McLaurin, 1991). These rules had an enormous impact both positive and negative in the case of Celia, the slave girl. In the states of Missouri in 1855 which is the same year that Celia killed her master and burned his body in her fireplace, the state has passed a policy that it was illegal and a crime for any man to take any woman unlawfully against her wish and will. The law allowed women being taken by force by men to satisfy their sexual urges to act in self defense even if the action of self defense resulted in the death of the man. It was also passed that it was a criminal offence for any person to attack a person intentionally hence causing harm or even death of the person (McLaurin, 1991). On the federal level, the constitution has abolished the slave trade and stated that all people had equal rights and protection. Also, the federal and state policies had been passed that murder or attempted murder was illegal and punishable by the law. These policies and laws had been created and implemented to demolish slave trade and promote human rights. All these policies that had been passed could affect Celia s trial but mainly in a contrary manner due to the intentions and the manner the crime was committed. The state law that favored Celia was the one claiming that it was wrong and legally unacceptable for a man to take any woman by force and that the woman had the right to retaliate acting in self defense. This is a law that could have been used to prove that the action Celia took was in self defense and that she did not have prior motives for killing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first theoretical framework is the symbolic interactionism. This focuses mainly on how the individual interacts with others, and how others influence the individual behaviors that impact society in a micro or macro way. The second theoretical framework is the conflict theory, it examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living condition of said group. Thirdly, the functionalist theory, which compares society to a system of interrelated parts, it s a social system not just an individual. Each frame work plays part in the issue when an economy declines which causes many families to lose their jobs. Single mothers lose their jobs and go into prostitution as a mean of support.CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION In this review there are three main paradigm: Functionalist theory, symbolic interactionist theory, and conflict theory. Symbolic interactionism focuses on how the individual interacts with others in a society and how others influences that individual; what impact does that have on a society. Conflict theory examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living condition of said group. In this review ... This genre came into existence shortly after the invention of the movie camera in 1888 and has endured for over one hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it changes with the times and this trend can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural history and technology. When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction between science fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies span between the science fiction genre and other genres. Movies such as The Ring (2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997) illustrate how the distinction between science fiction and horror films can be obscure. (Telotte 46) Some comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very much science fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction film fitting into almost any genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and Outland (1981) resembles a western in many respects. (Telotte 45) The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down. A genre such as the western has easily identifiable characteristics such as cowboys, guns, the wild west, and bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Dare Case Study #11. The previous research given makes it seem doubtful that the DARE program is working. I understand it s useful to have both sides in an article, but the evidence done over a 10 year span. That makes the current study look pointless to do, because we can always develop new programs if the current one such as DARE is not working. 2. The return rate of the surveys is surprisingly low. This is not adequate information, because the people who returned the surveys are mostly likely on opposite spectrums. The parents either really like the DARE program or hate it. Considering the program is about stopping children from using drugs, it s probably parents who really liked the program returned the survey. Another point to bring up is that these ... Quizzes can be helpful to show how students are performing, but that does not represent a multi chapter exam. A 50 question exam would better represent not only the students comprehension of the material but their ability apply it and remember it. 5. I thought the researchers use of multiple scales was very helpful to provide more evidence. In psychology, we are testing for ideas or concepts that are not observable. It s important to rely on more than one type of research to capture these changes in scores or perception. It also gave the study a higher chance of showing a significant difference. 6. The absence of a control group is a crucial downfall. There is no comparison that can be done between the groups. The researchers could have at least included compared scores of a neighboring school for reference. Although this is a research article, the lack of a control group makes this not a true experimental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike any other religion, Islam spread exponentially through trade routes, appealing to the needy and conquest of new areas. As the religion began to gain massive coverage across Afro Eurasia, it impacted the Post Classical World both politically and culturally. During the Post Classical Era, the spread of Islamled to significant political effects such as rise of caliphates, sultanates and empires that expanded to new areas. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Document 3 was written by a renowned Sufi Islamic poet named Rumi, and it was about a mystical encounter with the divine. Since the author is a dedicated Muslim, it makes sense that he is appealing to non believers to convert using his art of poetry. Thus, as a result of the spread of Islam, arts like poetry were enhanced in the Post Classical World. However, Document 4 directly contradicts the perspective of Document 3 because it de campaigns the cultural contributions of Islam and renders the spread of Islam as immoral and inferior. Document 4 was written by a Christian ambassador to the court of Sultan Suleyman, named Ogier Ghislen de Busbecq about his memoirs in the mid 1500 CE. It makes sense that he depicts the Islamic customs negatively because he exposes the undermining of women and polygamy practiced in Islamic society. Thus, the spread of Islam diffused Islamic social customs and traditions such as polygamy. On the other hand, Document 6 corroborates the argument of Document 3 as it suggests that Islam led to the enhancement of arts such as sciences. Document 6 was written Hunain ibn Ishaq, a Muslim scientist of the Abbasid Empire. This document was a document in Ishaq s medical journal. The authors conveys how the spread of Islam led to advances in education and sciences, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Death Of The Barn I can still remember the day that my dad made a dream of mine come true. One night my family was sitting down for supper when my dad said, Oh, and by the way Sarah you can have a goat this summer. At that point I just looked my dad and laughed. I thought he was joking, I had been asking for a goat for about three years. He had proclaimed multiple times throughout my childhood that I would not be getting a goatanytime soon. I guess my time had come. Within a few mouths it was May, I had set up a wired pen for my goat and could barely contain my excitement as we went to go pick up my goat. My dad and I arrived at the place to pick up my goat. The goat lived in a red barn on an anchorage with a nice middle aged man named Blaine. Blaine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That day I discovered that goats are very stubborn animals. For five minutes I dragged him around until I forced him back to his pen. Little did I know that more frustrating times would come with raising Beans as my show goat. As time passed and the days grew warmer and longer, Beans and I became better friends. He would let me pet him when he was in his pen, but when I tried to enter or leave his pen he would attempt to get out. He never really succeeded until one humid afternoon. I was feeding Beans and had left the pen to retrieve his ice cold water from the hydrant near the hog barn. After getting the water I went back to his pen and poured it in the trough. Once I had finished, I opened the gate, stepped out and tried to get the clunky five gallon pail through the gate. Instead of getting the pail out, Beans ran out as fast as a cheetah chasing a gazelle. I chased Beans all over the farm. We weaved in and out of the equipment that had been dormant because planted season had ended months ago. I ran all over the green knee high tall oat plants in the field, when Beans made the fatal mistake of running in the inside of the green old rake. The rake is rectangle shaped with one side open and the other side closed off by a wall of rake spikes. The rake s butt end rested on the ground, preventing Beans from crawling out. Very carefully I approach Beans. The last thing I need is him dodging me and running away again. I reached Beans and picked him up. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Sexual Identity And Sexuality Sexual Identity is what a person is attracted to sexually and emotionally. People tend to categorize others depending on their choice of sex. A recent study on the article, Lesbian Identity Performances in the Workplace, Social Class, and Psychological Health by Elizabeth McDermott (2006), has shown that people rather not identify their sexual identity so they can be welcomed into their workplace. But, it should not matter about a person s sexuality because it would not make them less of a man or woman to perform their job. One of the first things the speaker explained, that was already explained in a class lecture, was that in colonies with Catholic colonizers, African customs were kept, unlike some Protestant colonies where the African customs were forbidden by the colonizers. As a result, in Catholic colonies, mainly in Latin America, the African population was able to maintain their culture and music. Today, one can the African influences in Latin American music. • 49. The Commanalities of Plan and Form in Thomas Herzog s... The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, is Thomas Herzog s own home; one can declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for the site itself, is referred to as his Wohnhaus in Regensberg (1979), with its steep, ground sweeping pitched roof, is content to get its summer shading from the tree canopy above . (Rattenbury, et al., 2004) Throughout this essay I will analyse Thomas Herzog s House at Regensburg explaining the commonalities of plan and form, also looking at different themes and principles behind different aspects of the house. Also looking at how the houses are syncing in with the environment, in comparison to two other houses during the twentieth century. The house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herzog s first low energy house, is the vice versa of having the characteristics of traditional culture/customs or being constructed in a plain and simple fashion. Thus creating a new invention, a design made from logic owing itself to science rather than to emotion. The house at Regensburg has the pure prism form and rational plan that make it seem machine like , (Davies, C. 2006) whilst using wood that is seen as non typical Modernist material. The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times, but this was always an addition to the conventional house .
