How To Read Like A Writer By Mike Bunn
When studying through a textbook, reading an online blog, or watching a YouTube video, most people
simply absorb the raw information that is provided after all, that is what those sources are generally
used for. However, behind all that information lies deeper knowledge of a vast ocean of context. This
context sets the criteria for effectiveness, a topic discussed in the essay How to Read Like a Writer by
Mike Bunn. Bunn states that every text or video publisher has an intended audience that it aims to
please, and they achieve those goals through a specific choice of conversation, selected diction, and an
understanding of the consequences that could happen after the audience reads or watches their content.
The correct choices increases the effectiveness of hooking the attention of their audience. There were
several articles that displayed efforts of effectiveness for their target audience, but this essay will
discuss one YouTube video that stood out amongst the rest. In the YouTube video How Wolves
Change Rivers published by Sustainable Human, the narrator argues that the introductions of wolves
to Yellowstone National Park not only altered the ecology of animals, but that they also brought upon
massive improvements to the luscious environment as well. The author brings upon the conversation
by discussing a term used in the food chain called the trophic cascade , a term that describes how the
introduction of an organism at that top of the food chain can

Between Shades Of Gray Stone Analysis
The Powerful Meanings of the Stone In Between Shades of Gray In the novel Between Shades of
Gray by author Ruta Sepetys has a powerful symbol that holds a special meaning to Jonas, Lina and
Andrius. This specific stone has been with these characters throughout the entire novel of Between
Shades of Gray; the stone represents hope for Jonas when he is sick with scurvy, it represents love for
Andrius because it is a gift that he is gives Lina so she can remember him, and finally it represents the
will to survive for Lina. The stone holds a special meaning to Jonas because it helps him get through
the scurvy that he is diagnosed with at the beet farm. Jonas takes out the stone from his pocket and

The Case of Kelo v. City of New London
Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar) Mellencamp s
hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23, 2005. The ruling
stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise eminent dominant
rules to enable them acquire private property and utilize it for purposes of economic development.
Eminent domain also referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking private property and making it
public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal government (Bradley 65). The
private property taken away is converted to public property for public use. With reference to the case
of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the government should take private property
through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S
constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise eminent domain for economic development.
New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard economic times majorly due to the closure of the
U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which was the major employer in the region. This prompted a
decrease in the tax base and population in general. This made the city leaders desperate for some
development in the city s economy. Afterwards, a pharmaceutical giant Pfizer started to construct a
facility used for research in the outskirts of New London. This was the only chance for the city to
activate the

How Boeing Changed the World
After five years under wraps, the future of commercial aviation is about to make its worldwide debut.
The global spotlight will be shining on The Boeing Co. July 8 (07 08 07) as it unveils its newest
passenger jet in 13 years: the 787 Dreamliner. It hasn t even flown yet and already the 787 is making
aviation history as the world s hottest selling and most technically advanced new commercial jet ever.
Not since Boeing ushered in the jet age with its 707 in 1954 has there been such hoopla over a new
passenger airplane. For the 787 the company s first all new jet since the 777 was unveiled in 1994
Boeing has rented an entire football field to simulcast the rollout, which will be emceed by
broadcaster Tom Brokaw.

This is a far cry from how Boeing used to make airplanes, says Hamilton.
The first few weeks of final assembly have not been smooth. Some of the jet s major structures were
delivered incomplete and fuselage sections didn t fit together properly. In addition, temporary
fasteners were being used to hold fuselage sections together because of an industry wide shortage of
permanent fasteners.
Boeing officials have acknowledged the problems and characterize them as hiccups in the production
process that are being resolved as soon as they crop up.
Company officials, however, are keeping a watchful eye on their international partners to ensure the
aircraft sections are delivered on time. Any more missteps or delays could end up in a disastrous
domino effect, forcing Boeing to postpone the 787 s first flight. Just last month, Vought Aircraft, one
of Boeing s major partners on the 787, fired a top executive because of production snafus and delays
on fuselage sections.
Mike Bair, head of the 787 program, told reporters recently that the production snafus have been
resolved and are typical for all new airplane programs. He denied a JP Morgan analyst s report that the
787 production schedule may slip four months, saying the program is still on schedule. We are where
we need to be, he told reporters.
Boeing s bold new manufacturing strategy is a sore point for the company s largest union, whose
contract with Boeing expires in the

Summary Of Bridget Bishop s Witch Trial
In the document Words of the Bewitched, Bridget Bishop s witch trial takes place in Salem in the year
of 1692. Bishop is accused of being an evil witch and having harmed others on several occasions. The
document goes on to state that little evidence is needed of her being a witch for it is evident and
notorious to all beholders. Witnesses and victims begin to testify, declaring Bishop guilty of threats
and physical force to have them sign a book, the devil s book. As the trial is occurring, it becomes
apparent that the victims present are extremely upset, and tortured by the mere presence of Bishop. It
was noted that by simply casting her eyes on them they would strike down into fits and would only be
calmed by her touch. To add to the drama of the trial, a confessed witch, testifies that Bishop
tormented her after her confession. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the testimony continues, Bishop is accused of haunting various men at night as they slept, killing a
child, and bewitching animals. Adding to this evidence, a group of jury women testify having found a
preternatural teat , or an abnormal extra nipple, but having checked again, it had disappeared. All this
made this one of the most memorable witch trial that happened in Salem. Bishop was later convicted
and hanged. Bridget Bishop was one of the 20 women killed and declared a witch by the Salem court.
These were a direct consequence of the Puritan lifestyle occurring in the seventeenth century, and this
influence in their justice system. In Chapter 4, Puritans strict interpretation of a godly society is
underlined by the Salem witch trials. Puritan life was heavily shaped by the church and its Christian
beliefs. There laws were also. Members of this society

Management Fee | | Mayfield charged a budget based management fee to appeal to potential LPs.
Because industry practice was traditionally a 2/20 based fee, Mayfield had a competitive advantage
against other VCs as the budget based fee was attractive because: * Transparency. Budget based fees
encourage transparency by requiring Mayfield to produce an expense list, providing LPs greater
information compared to the traditional management fee based on committed capital. * ... Show more

Mayfield can differentiate itself from other VCs and market themselves as more aligned with the LPs,
thus, allowing itself quick raising of funds and greater negotiating power when the fund is
oversubscribed. * Because the terms of the fund are a product of the negotiations between the LP and
GP, greater bargaining power is significantly favorable. * Greater Funds to Invest. Because fees are
less, there is greater amount to invest, and, in the case that there are many attractive investments,
Mayfield can capture more investments. However, there are potential costs to the budget based fees
which should also be considered. * Talent Acquisition. Because the fees are budget based, there may
be an incentive for high level talent to work for Mayfield, especially if salaries may be restricted by
the budget based nature of the fees; thus, high level talent may move to firms with a 2/20 structure. *
No Fixed Rate. The GP has the opportunity cost of not charging the fixed rate; because their costs are
well below the 2.5% cap, Mayfield is has a trade off of the difference between the fixed rate and the
budget based charges however, at the same time, they are compensated with higher carried interest. *
The GP may be severely affected if the economy declines or there are no good deals to be found; the
budget based approach was based on the concept of alignment of interest, however, the VC has less
control over the industry

Collinsvilles Narrative
It was the first day of fall in Collinsville, Illinois and the leaves were gently falling to the ground. The
house was filled with lots of noise and the kids wanted to go outside and play in the leaves, but they
couldn t play in the leaves until they ate lunch. It was the perfect day to play outside. They finished
eating and ran out to enjoy the weather. They played in the leaves as long as they could until they
found a snake in their leaf pile. The kids screamed in terror but the snake just slithered away with its
tongue hanging out and hissing at the kids. It started to get dark and the the kids still played outside
until the kids heard the creepy coyotes howling in the dark woods.
Sarah ran inside and hid under her bed. John ran as fast as a lighting bolt to the door. Jim just stood
outside until more coyotes came out the woods and he was inside in a second. The kids were all

wooden porch hanging from the ceiling. The house was really far away when he looked back.
Once he got to the barn, he shut the barn door and climbed the ladder to the second floor. Meanwhile,
the whole family was sound asleep. He heard the coyotes scratching at the door and he got worried.
What if they tear a hole in the door and get through? He thought he would have to stay there the whole

house. Once it got to the morning, the coyotes were gone. His mom came to check the barn because

The All Purpose Isotope Essay
Terbium: The All purpose Isotope
John Patrick Lopez
Santa Fe College
Abstract
This paper will run through the potential and numerous clinical uses of terbium in nuclear medicine.
Terbium is a rare metal and is still under clinical trials in Europe and is the only element in the
periodic table with four clinically relevant radioisotopes with remarkable nuclear decay characteristics
and could possibly be used in a vast array of nuclear medicine procedures, including diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures. The four forms of terbium under clinical trials are 149Tb, 152Tb, 155Tb, and
161Tb. 149Tb is being clinically tested as an alpha particle emitting radionuclide for alpha
immunotherapy. Due to it s relatively short half life of 4.1 hours and low energy emittance of alpha
particles, make it principally well suited for application in unification with small molecular weight
targeting agents, including peptides, which are quickly vacated from the body. 152Tb with a half like
of 17.5 hours emits positrons perfect for postitron emission tomography imaging. 155Tb emits gamma
rays and has a half life of 5.32 days with relatively low energies of 86.55 and 105.3 keV respectively,
it is being tested for diagnostic purposes for positron emission tomography and single photon emission
computed tomography cameras. 161Tb produces beta minus particles and is being tested for
therapeutic purposes while showing great promise with tumor visualization and remission. The

Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief
Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This is not
limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny the
existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe, and we are
to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument of faith and
reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a Logical Bet or
W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. In both we find strengths and weaknesses which defend their
individual beliefs based on reasoning and logical thinking.
Before we consider what Blaise Pascal s argument is between faith and reason, we must ... Show more

Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument. In
The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical without
having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely on faith but it
demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in deciding whether a
Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a story about a ship owner
who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was old and not in the best shape as
it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner that the ship was not seaworthy, the
doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the
ship owner make the decision to set aside all doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he
allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed,
and the ship owner collected the insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking
in, the ship owners decision to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical.
As the owner it was his responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected
situations, issues, and events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their
lives, however, this was not the case. From the

The Symbolism In The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe is known for the various literary devices he uses in his works. One of the most
famous devices he uses is symbolism. In many of his stories, including The Masque of the Red Death,
The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell Tale Heart, and The Cask of Amontillado, Poe uses
symbolism to further develop each story by the messages he writes between the lines. Symbolism is an
important aspect of Poe s many works, seeing as how it allows the readers to make connections within
the stories. In The Cask of Amontillado, Poe represents symbolism through the title of the short story,
the outfit Fortunato wears, and the Montresor family motto and coat of arms. Many would not look to
a title of a piece of literature for symbolism. In The Cask of Amontillado, Poe uses the key word cask
as a huge symbol. The word cask refers to, a sturdy cylindrical container for storing liquids, such as
Amontillado, a fine wine, in this case (Lorcher). Montresor introduces the topic of the wine to his
former friend Fortunato by saying, My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you
are looking to day. But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts
(Poe). Fortunato is extremely intoxicated from carnival festivities prior to his conversation with
Montresor, so it is probable that his decision to go into the catacombs with Montresor is not for the
benefit of anyone but himself. He sees this journey with Montresor as a way to acquire one of two
possible outcomes free wine or a chance to further humiliate Montresor, especially after Montresor
suggests that Fortunato is not capable of distinguishing the Amontillado and mentions the name of a
rival, Luchresi (Lorcher). The symbolism in the key word of cask is that it has the same root as the
word casket. Poe s use of symbolism in this regard is often overlooked and written off as mere
coincidence, yet that is far from the truth. Fortunato s love of wine, and the ignorant and easily
influenced state the wine puts him in, leads him to make some of his most destructive decisions to not
only others, but also to himself. The Amontillado is a symbol of Fortunato s downfall, or in other
words, the love he has for the cask

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Literary Analysis
A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Conner shows the battle of society vs. class. The
grandmother in A Good Man is hard to find gives great importance to being a lady, and her ideas about
what that means reflect an old fashioned, Southern mindset. She uses the n word and longs for the
good old days when kids were polite, people were trustworthy. All of this leads her to associate being
good with coming from a respectable family and behaving like a member of her social class; those
who don t are outsiders. All of this is put to the test when she meets The Misfit. Society vs. Class
shows that everyone is truly equal and at the end of the day social class doesn t make a difference. O
Conner shows this through her use of Tone and Characterization throughout the story. The
grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity which O Connor apparently believed to be
more prevalent in the 1950 s down south. the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a
bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collar

how willing? (Hammet 35). This quotation illustrates Brigid s submissiveness and dependency on Mr.
Spade to help her. But later she becomes the dominant figure when she utilizes her monetary wealth to
her advantage: She opened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the dashes put an exclamation point in how horrid of an idea it is to correlate the murder to her.
In the end however, Brigid is the one who killed Mr. Archer, but fails to pin it on Mr. Thursby. Spade s
instinct that she couldn t be trusted (Hammett 46) is true because she is able to bluntly lie without any
regard for others.
On the other hand, Sam Spade s tough exterior shows no sign of unequal treatment based on gender.
He treats women with the same petty attitude as he treats men: The hell it is, Miss O Shaughnessy, that
a couple of murders... coming together like this get everybody stirred up, make police think they can
go the limit, make everybody hard to handle and expensive (Hammett 33). This quotation shows his
lack of respect for Brigid who recently lied to him. He is mean and relentless in his pursuit for the
truth even when interrogating women. It is not until he falls in love with Brigid that his tough exterior
is broken down: Spade combed [Brigid s] hair back from her face with his fingers and said: I m sorry,
angel. I thought you d sleep through it (Hammett 92). Symbolically, this quotation signifies the
breakdown of Spade s exterior to show his sincere personality. In the end, Spade s high morals is
revealed when he turns Brigid in for killing Mr. Archer at the beginning of the book: At one point in
the scene, Spade tells her that if she gets a break,

Globalization And The Impact Of Globalization In The...
Globalization in Medellin has been distributed unevenly throughout the years. Medellin has benefitted
from the effects of globalization in the security and energy efficiency sector, especially with the
emergence of the Metrocables (Brand, 2013). However, globalization has yet to have a significant
impact on the political and economic development of the city, and even throughout Colombia itself.
Despite the lack of impact caused by globalization in these areas, they have still improved in
comparison to their prior status in the 1990 s (Moncada, 2016). Medellin can use globalization as a
tool to decrease unemployment rates and increase the value of their economy, which they have begun
to do in moderation. Those who were previously excluded from the effects of globalization in
Medellin are slowly being integrated into the globalizing of the city with the development of the
Metrocables, with the intention of establishing the government s concern for those living in
disadvantaged areas, since the Metrocables are built in the poorest sectors of Medellin (Brand, 2013).
The areas that these Metrocables are situated in have seen commercial changes, resulting in the
number of businesses multiplying and thus creating new job opportunities for those who are
unemployed and growing the economic sector of globalization in Medellin (Agudelo, et al. 2013).
Although Medellin as well as Colombia as a state may face big challenges in the development of the
city s internationalization

The Themes Of Man And Nature In Ruskin Bond s Novel
The theme is a phenomenon that transpires from the concealed idealogies which the writer provides.
In a broad sense, a theme may simply be a characteristic view of life that pervades a story . (Lynn and
Lewis : 78). Harry Shaw maintains that the theme tells Some truth about life or human behaviour .
(Shaw : 13). These concepts of theme in short fiction try to depict that short story, like any other
fictional forms, reveals the values of a writer and his phyche of the human condition. Thus, theme
involves the philosophical subject, which largely determines the selection and organization of the

Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting
1. Write a descriptive paragraph of the physical environment, describe the room, number of people

The Alcoholic Anonymous meeting I attended was organized by East Valley Intergroup of Alcoholics

Wednesday morning. The room, where the meeting occurred, consisted of a business meeting
atmosphere, with wooden walls, lack of windows, 12 metal chairs in a circular construction, with an
informal dress code. Twelve individuals attended the group 8 members, 2 family members, the leader

stated my purpose for being at the AA meeting. When questioned about my role, I stated that I am a
nursing student who wanted to experience an AA meeting, to learn more about addiction and how it
impacts individuals lives, and what role I can do, as a nurse, to provide care for a current and/or
recovering alcoholic. This response sparked an interest in many of the members, as they began to ask
about my schooling. I answered questions, such as where I want to school, what I liked about the
program, and how I viewed those with addiction. I kept it short and sweet, as I did not want to take too
much time out of the meeting to discuss myself. As the topic of discussion moved from my schooling
to the meeting, I quietly observed and actively listened to the various stories and advice. After the
meeting finished, I thanked both the leader and the members for sharing their personal stories with me

The Huns Dbq
The Huns, a nomadic people group, were first known to exist in the central Asian steppes. They were
also known as one of the greatest threats in the 5th century. The Huns were a significant part of the
start of the downfall of Rome. From a small group of barbaric warriors to one of the most powerful
kingdoms in the 5th century, the Huns devastated everything they attacked. But the question remains,
how did they do it? The Huns were so successful in conquering Europe and Asia because of their great
leader, unique fighting style, and the fear they struck into the hearts of their enemies.
Hunic tribes began their chapter in history with unorganized and separate attacks during the late 300s
in Central Asia and different parts of Europe such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This perception may be true at times, but the Huns new exactly what they were good at and used that
to their advantage. The Huns were raised to be great warriors and hunters. They would learn how to
ride horses and shoot a bow, a skill in which they exceeded. Their exceptional riding capabilities let
the Huns use mobility as one of their main assets in battle. Even though some Huns used other
weapons such as swords, whips, and spears, the Huns preferred weapon was the bow and arrow. Few
Huns wore armor because armor was something a higher ranked official would dress in. The
combination of the bow with a skilled rider led to the Huns being a fierce attack force. Their favorite
battle style was a battle fought far away from the enemy. They could be deadly with their bows from
afar and then use their horses to keep the distance while still shooting. Their hit and run style of
fighting was a way of battle that the Eastern Roman Empire was not used to dealing with. This way of

Major Events Of Babylonian Captivity
Research Paper 2: Major event This paper will discuss the Babylonian captivity, a major event from
the history of Israel from the creation of Israel to its Statehood in 1948. This event will be discussed,
from a historical as well as biblical perspective, what happened to the nation of Israel, how this event
impacted the surrounding nations, as well as God s hand in the event guiding the nation of Israel and
His ultimate purpose through the event. God warned Israel before they entered the Promised Land that
they will forsake Him and go after other gods. As a result of this, He will scatter them among the
nations. After the death of Solomon, the United Kingdom was split in two: The Northern ten tribes

This is an important period in Israel s history because the captivity and the return and restoration of
the Jewish nation were fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies.
When Solomon died in 931 B.C., the United Kingdom of Israel was split in two: 10 tribes in the North
formed Israel and the 2 remaining tribes in the South continued under the name of Judah. God
punished the Northern Kingdom for their idolatry and in 722 B.C. it was conquered by the Assyrians.
The people were taken into captivity and they never returned to their homeland. The Southern
Kingdom survived until 586 B.C. when it fell to the Babylonians.
From historical perspective, the Babylonian captivity started after the Babylonian army defeats the
Pharaoh Necho s army at Carchemish in 605 B.C. The King Jehoiakim had to pay tribute to
Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon. At this time Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

Electromagnetic radiation covers a large spectrum of wavelengths, these waves of radiant energy have
different usage according to their energy, in example; the rays from the sun, sunlight is vital to life on
earth, radio waves allow us to communicate, microwaves allow us to cook our foods, infrared
radiation provides us with warmth/heat, visible light illuminate and is also used essentially for growth
of our trees, flowers, and the many foods we grow on earth, ultraviolet rays, which also comes from
the sun, provide us with Vitamin D which is vital for our bones, and x rays are used for medical
diagnostic such as diagnosing a fractured or broken bone or pathology, it is also used in airports to
check our luggage and help us be safe onboard to our paradise destinations. Gamma rays are used in
the medical field to sterilize surgical equipments, it is also used to sterilize baby nipples, and cosmetic
products, just to name a few; And for the past 60 years or so, the combination of Radiation, Cobalt 60,

The goal of the three Gunas is to create a bondage through desires. Understanding the three Gunas

My Future Goals

Analysis Of Common Sense By George Orwell
American history has been founded on various writings which help shape our evolving nation.
Common Sense, by Thomas Paine in particular has had a tremendous impact on the unification of
common people and leaders. Ultimately, unifying both parties of people would lead to the fight for
colonial independence. Although the pamphlet contributed well thought ideas and a new perspective
on winning the fight, it wasn t as well written as it could ve been. Paine is credited for the persuasive
writing style he used which in turn ended up changing the course of history. But, had he used and

Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity
How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For many

captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous to humans, and
they can get separated from their families. Killer whales captivity is a major issue because they could

stresses that lower their resistance and make them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in
captivity significantly lower than in the wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the
terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed,
they often begin gnawing on the edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild
are very rare. Also, whales like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the
most common reason why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also
died due to the disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that
the whales would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive.
Orca captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of
3 people as shown in Blackfish. First, he and 2 other whales drowned Keltie Byrne, who had slipped
into the pool. She was screaming and tried to escape, but the whales pulled her back and drowned her.

Biblical Flood Story Vs. Gilgamesh Flood
Biblical Flood Story versus Gilgamesh Flood Story The Biblical Flood story and the Gilgamesh Flood
story include similarities and differences. There are two versions we know of the flood story in
Babylonian literature, and both have different hero s in each, although the cause of each flood is
different. I will prove that I understand the task at hand by reading both of the stories, and taking it
apart piece by piece to understand it in a whole. By doing this, I am able to know what I am reading
and what the reading is trying to say. I will show how to sum up the ideology of the flood in the
different versions and understand how the biblical story has transformed the Gilgamesh myth in
meaningful ways. Stephanie Dalley enlightens that, The Epic of Gilgamesh is the longest and greatest
literary composition written in cuneiform Akkadian (39). It is an epic poem from ancient
Mesopotamia (2100 BC). Many scholars believe that the flood myth was added to the Tablet XI,
which was created in the 7th century BCE. This literary composition is considered an epic because of
the features that the heroic figure carries. The Epic is about a heroic quest for the fame and
immortality, pursued by a man who has an enormous capacity for friendship, for endurance and
adventure, for joy and sorrow, a man of strength, and weakness who loses a unique opportunity the
epic provides for tracing earlier, independent folk tales... (Dalley 39). It was not clear for awhile if the

MLPA Essay
A few year ago, California began the process of establishing a system of MPAs along the north central
coast as a part of a statewide marine protected area system as a result of The Marine Life Protection
Act (MLPA), state legislation passed in 1999, that directs the state to redesign its system of MPAs to
increase cohesion and effectiveness of the network, improve ecosystem protection in state waters, and
improve recreational, educational and study opportunities provided by marine ecosystems subject to
minimal human disturbance (Gleason et al. 2010) The MLPA was response to public pressure for more

responsibilities for all involved in MPA planning and implementation involved defining stakeholder
groups and allows for the incorporation of traditional ecological knowledge. As a result, the North
Central Coast Regional Stakeholder Group (RSG) was established (Gleason et al. 2010). The North

commercial and recreational fishermen, non consumptive users, conservation organizations, resource

Relationship Between Humans And The Natural Environment
What are the characteristics that define the nature of the relationship between humans and the natural
environment? Explain. The characteristics of the relationship are: Dependency on the side of humans
on the natural environment s ecosystems to provide support for human social system. Differing
cultural or social values impact how much or how little humans use from nature. Population size
affects how much of a strain the humans will cause on the environment. Technology has an impact on
how efficient the humans use the Earth s resources. What is a definition of a resource? A substance in
the environment that is useful to people. Economically and technologically feasible to get. Socially
acceptable to use. Why are there resource shortages? Explain. The world s dwindling supplies of
arable land, fresh water, energy and minerals essential for the production of food and appliances such
as mobile phones, cars, televisions and washing machines cannot meet rising global demand. Dambisa
Moyo We have a global supply and demand balance that is out of equilibrium. As economies develop
and more citizens gain higher wages their discretionary incomes rise with it. With that rise brings
generational waves of new buyers to the world economy at a rates that have not been seen before.
When the India s or China s populations of over 1 billion have more urban middle income citizens
than rural low income citizens those people need more things to find a happy life. Define
overpopulation. Why do some people believe there are too many people on Earth? Overpopulation is
an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying
capacity of Earth. Some believe there are too many people on Earth because the more people we have
the more resources we need to use to support them, there will be less jobs to support an outsized
population for developing nations, and the need for limited or scarce resources will lead to more
conflicts with a greater possibility of those conflicts leading to war. What are the causes of
degradation of the environment? Explain. The causes of environmental degradation are: Land damage
caused by invasive species of plants. These plants can take advantage of disruptions

Components Of Integrated Project Delivery
What is Integrated Project Design?
There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using
today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called
Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all
aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all
participants, business coordination s, and business systems, and the way they interact with the
specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective final
product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub contractors,
consultants and suppliers.
Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building
structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an
open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens
the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from
owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves
everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained as
well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone s role in the process. Team building is another
major part of IPD. Under each main

Scurvy Is Not A Disease
Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was
prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not
generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about.
While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and
treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing.
Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different
ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many
of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors.
Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease
in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a
surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons
and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as
well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California,
and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. Scientists discovered an
antiscorbutic factor that citrus fruits and potatoes carried in 1931. This factor was

Transnational Corporation And What Impacts Do They Have On...
What is a Transnational Corporation and what impacts do they have on society? Before we can discuss
the impacts these types of corporations have on society, we must first have a basic knowledge of
exactly what a Transnational Corporation is and how they are formed. Then we can begin to
comprehend how these corporations impact things such as international trade and the effects they have
on cultures throughout the world. Let s begin by defining a Transnational Corporations. Most of
individuals draw there meaning of a term from how it is used in a sentence and from our own
background, but we all know that can change the meaning of the word. We also know that this can be
close or way of base as to the actual meaning. So, let s see what the definition is for Transnational
Corporation. According to West s Encyclopedia of American Law, A Transnational, or multinational,
corporation has its headquarters in one country and operates wholly or partially owned subsidiaries in
one or more other countries. (Lehman and Phelps, 2008) Here is another definition of the topic
Multinational corporations are corporations whose home offices are in one country but have
significant fixed investments in other countries. These investments might be in factories or
warehouses, transportation or telecommunications, mining or agriculture. (Burton, 2002) Now you
have two different version of what this type of corporation is. However, my interpretation is, this is a
company that

Art Essay
The context, of which art is created, clearly reflects its history and where it is from. Society s values
are further highlighted by the piece and give us insight into what life was like. This is interestingly
interpreted by Juan Bautista de Espinosa s exuberant baroque style painting, with a heavily catholic
influence from Spain in the late 1500 s, as well as Margaret Olley s contrasting and simplistic
sensibility of the mid 20th century. Each artist s aesthetic, although significantly different; equally

The Spanish Empire, in an effort to increase its size and spread Catholicism, carried out many
conquests overseas. In Bautista s work Still Life with Grapes, Flowers, and Shells, 1628 reflects the
new delights that the new world had to offer . The arrangement of shells and exotic birds and flowers,
is a combination of old and new: with a traditional style of painting depicting exciting and unexplored
goods. This could possibly be a metaphor for the rather old and powerful Spanish empire, exploring
into the unknown. The subtle uses of bright bold colours of peach and chartreuse, as well as warm
earth tones are a clear reflection of the South American tropics, along with their exotic flora and fauna,
and humid climate. It also creates moods of excitement in anticipation of what else there is to explore.
The lusciousness of the brush strokes and use of highlights give the painting a new life, in the both
things harsh like the foliage of the plants and soft like plumage of the birds. The sombre background
and traditional table ground the contrasting arrangement and forms the basic structure of the piece. It
also competes with the display, just like Spain and its conquest against other nations.
Margaret Olley is possibly one of Australia s most famous still life painters. Born in 1923, Olley
enjoyed art from an early age and even died with paint still on her fingers. She was trained at the East

Origins of Criminal Behavior
Tara Olivarez
University of the Rockies
Abstract
We spend a large amount of time learning. It should be important to know something about it.
Everyone is a learner, and everyone is also a teacher. Even as small children will show another child
how to play a game. Most social process theories assume behavior (good or bad) is learned behavior
which means that even criminal behavior can be learned through social interactions.
Origins of Criminal Behavior
In all connections with learning, we find ourselves learning to like or dislike. The learning process is
very complex, when we consider the large variety of idea, viewpoints, values and bits of information
people have. A great deal of learning is a matter of association or conditioning. Criminal behavior has

  • 2. How To Read Like A Writer By Mike Bunn When studying through a textbook, reading an online blog, or watching a YouTube video, most people simply absorb the raw information that is provided after all, that is what those sources are generally used for. However, behind all that information lies deeper knowledge of a vast ocean of context. This context sets the criteria for effectiveness, a topic discussed in the essay How to Read Like a Writer by Mike Bunn. Bunn states that every text or video publisher has an intended audience that it aims to please, and they achieve those goals through a specific choice of conversation, selected diction, and an understanding of the consequences that could happen after the audience reads or watches their content. The correct choices increases the effectiveness of hooking the attention of their audience. There were several articles that displayed efforts of effectiveness for their target audience, but this essay will discuss one YouTube video that stood out amongst the rest. In the YouTube video How Wolves Change Rivers published by Sustainable Human, the narrator argues that the introductions of wolves to Yellowstone National Park not only altered the ecology of animals, but that they also brought upon massive improvements to the luscious environment as well. The author brings upon the conversation by discussing a term used in the food chain called the trophic cascade , a term that describes how the introduction of an organism at that top of the food chain can ... • 4. The Case of Kelo v. City of New London Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar) Mellencamp s hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23, 2005. The ruling stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise eminent dominant rules to enable them acquire private property and utilize it for purposes of economic development. Eminent domain also referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking private property and making it public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal government (Bradley 65). The private property taken away is converted to public property for public use. With reference to the case of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the government should take private property through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise eminent domain for economic development. New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard economic times majorly due to the closure of the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which was the major employer in the region. This prompted a decrease in the tax base and population in general. This made the city leaders desperate for some development in the city s economy. Afterwards, a pharmaceutical giant Pfizer started to construct a facility used for research in the outskirts of New London. This was the only chance for the city to activate the ... • 5. How Boeing Changed the World After five years under wraps, the future of commercial aviation is about to make its worldwide debut. The global spotlight will be shining on The Boeing Co. July 8 (07 08 07) as it unveils its newest passenger jet in 13 years: the 787 Dreamliner. It hasn t even flown yet and already the 787 is making aviation history as the world s hottest selling and most technically advanced new commercial jet ever. Not since Boeing ushered in the jet age with its 707 in 1954 has there been such hoopla over a new passenger airplane. For the 787 the company s first all new jet since the 777 was unveiled in 1994 Boeing has rented an entire football field to simulcast the rollout, which will be emceed by broadcaster Tom Brokaw. While the Dreamliner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a far cry from how Boeing used to make airplanes, says Hamilton. The first few weeks of final assembly have not been smooth. Some of the jet s major structures were delivered incomplete and fuselage sections didn t fit together properly. In addition, temporary fasteners were being used to hold fuselage sections together because of an industry wide shortage of permanent fasteners. Boeing officials have acknowledged the problems and characterize them as hiccups in the production process that are being resolved as soon as they crop up. Company officials, however, are keeping a watchful eye on their international partners to ensure the aircraft sections are delivered on time. Any more missteps or delays could end up in a disastrous domino effect, forcing Boeing to postpone the 787 s first flight. Just last month, Vought Aircraft, one of Boeing s major partners on the 787, fired a top executive because of production snafus and delays on fuselage sections. Mike Bair, head of the 787 program, told reporters recently that the production snafus have been resolved and are typical for all new airplane programs. He denied a JP Morgan analyst s report that the 787 production schedule may slip four months, saying the program is still on schedule. We are where we need to be, he told reporters. • 7. Summary Of Bridget Bishop s Witch Trial In the document Words of the Bewitched, Bridget Bishop s witch trial takes place in Salem in the year of 1692. Bishop is accused of being an evil witch and having harmed others on several occasions. The document goes on to state that little evidence is needed of her being a witch for it is evident and notorious to all beholders. Witnesses and victims begin to testify, declaring Bishop guilty of threats and physical force to have them sign a book, the devil s book. As the trial is occurring, it becomes apparent that the victims present are extremely upset, and tortured by the mere presence of Bishop. It was noted that by simply casting her eyes on them they would strike down into fits and would only be calmed by her touch. To add to the drama of the trial, a confessed witch, testifies that Bishop tormented her after her confession. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adding to this evidence, a group of jury women testify having found a preternatural teat , or an abnormal extra nipple, but having checked again, it had disappeared. All this made this one of the most memorable witch trial that happened in Salem. Bishop was later convicted and hanged. Bridget Bishop was one of the 20 women killed and declared a witch by the Salem court. These were a direct consequence of the Puritan lifestyle occurring in the seventeenth century, and this influence in their justice system. Because industry practice was traditionally a 2/20 based fee, Mayfield had a competitive advantage against other VCs as the budget based fee was attractive because: * Transparency. Budget based fees encourage transparency by requiring Mayfield to produce an expense list, providing LPs greater information compared to the traditional management fee based on committed capital. * ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mayfield can differentiate itself from other VCs and market themselves as more aligned with the LPs, thus, allowing itself quick raising of funds and greater negotiating power when the fund is oversubscribed. * Because the terms of the fund are a product of the negotiations between the LP and GP, greater bargaining power is significantly favorable. * Greater Funds to Invest. Because fees are less, there is greater amount to invest, and, in the case that there are many attractive investments, Mayfield can capture more investments. However, there are potential costs to the budget based fees which should also be considered. * Talent Acquisition. Because the fees are budget based, there may be an incentive for high level talent to work for Mayfield, especially if salaries may be restricted by the budget based nature of the fees; thus, high level talent may move to firms with a 2/20 structure. * No Fixed Rate. The GP has the opportunity cost of not charging the fixed rate; because their costs are well below the 2.5% cap, Mayfield is has a trade off of the difference between the fixed rate and the budget based charges however, at the same time, they are compensated with higher carried interest. * The GP may be severely affected if the economy declines or there are no good deals to be found; the budget based approach was based on the concept of alignment of interest, however, the VC has less control over the industry ... • 11. The All Purpose Isotope Essay Terbium: The All purpose Isotope John Patrick Lopez Santa Fe College Abstract This paper will run through the potential and numerous clinical uses of terbium in nuclear medicine. Terbium is a rare metal and is still under clinical trials in Europe and is the only element in the periodic table with four clinically relevant radioisotopes with remarkable nuclear decay characteristics and could possibly be used in a vast array of nuclear medicine procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The four forms of terbium under clinical trials are 149Tb, 152Tb, 155Tb, and 161Tb. 149Tb is being clinically tested as an alpha particle emitting radionuclide for alpha immunotherapy. Due to it s relatively short half life of 4.1 hours and low energy emittance of alpha particles, make it principally well suited for application in unification with small molecular weight targeting agents, including peptides, which are quickly vacated from the body. 152Tb with a half like of 17.5 hours emits positrons perfect for postitron emission tomography imaging. 155Tb emits gamma rays and has a half life of 5.32 days with relatively low energies of 86.55 and 105.3 keV respectively, it is being tested for diagnostic purposes for positron emission tomography and single photon emission computed tomography cameras. 161Tb produces beta minus particles and is being tested for therapeutic purposes while showing great promise with tumor visualization and remission. • 12. Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This is not limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny the existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe, and we are to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument of faith and reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a Logical Bet or W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. In both we find strengths and weaknesses which defend their individual beliefs based on reasoning and logical thinking. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument. In The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical without having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely on faith but it demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in deciding whether a Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a story about a ship owner who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was old and not in the best shape as it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner that the ship was not seaworthy, the doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the ship owner make the decision to set aside all doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed, and the ship owner collected the insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking in, the ship owners decision to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical. As the owner it was his responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected situations, issues, and events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their lives, however, this was not the case. From the ... • 15. The Symbolism In The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Allen Poe Edgar Allen Poe is known for the various literary devices he uses in his works. One of the most famous devices he uses is symbolism. In many of his stories, including The Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell Tale Heart, and The Cask of Amontillado, Poe uses symbolism to further develop each story by the messages he writes between the lines. Symbolism is an important aspect of Poe s many works, seeing as how it allows the readers to make connections within the stories. In The Cask of Amontillado, Poe represents symbolism through the title of the short story, the outfit Fortunato wears, and the Montresor family motto and coat of arms. Many would not look to a title of a piece of literature for symbolism. In The Cask of Amontillado, Poe uses the key word cask as a huge symbol. The word cask refers to, a sturdy cylindrical container for storing liquids, such as Amontillado, a fine wine, in this case (Lorcher). Montresor introduces the topic of the wine to his former friend Fortunato by saying, My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking to day. But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts (Poe). Fortunato is extremely intoxicated from carnival festivities prior to his conversation with Montresor, so it is probable that his decision to go into the catacombs with Montresor is not for the benefit of anyone but himself. He sees this journey with Montresor as a way to acquire one of two possible outcomes free wine or a chance to further humiliate Montresor, especially after Montresor suggests that Fortunato is not capable of distinguishing the Amontillado and mentions the name of a rival, Luchresi (Lorcher). The symbolism in the key word of cask is that it has the same root as the word casket. Poe s use of symbolism in this regard is often overlooked and written off as mere coincidence, yet that is far from the truth. Fortunato s love of wine, and the ignorant and easily influenced state the wine puts him in, leads him to make some of his most destructive decisions to not only others, but also to himself. The Amontillado is a symbol of Fortunato s downfall, or in other words, the love he has for the cask ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. A Good Man Is Hard To Find Literary Analysis A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Conner shows the battle of society vs. class. The grandmother in A Good Man is hard to find gives great importance to being a lady, and her ideas about what that means reflect an old fashioned, Southern mindset. She uses the n word and longs for the good old days when kids were polite, people were trustworthy. All of this leads her to associate being good with coming from a respectable family and behaving like a member of her social class; those who don t are outsiders. All of this is put to the test when she meets The Misfit. Society vs. Class shows that everyone is truly equal and at the end of the day social class doesn t make a difference. O Conner shows this through her use of Tone and Characterization throughout the story. The grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity which O Connor apparently believed to be more prevalent in the 1950 s down south. the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. The black bird functions as the structural bond of Spade and Brigid s relationship because it represents their greed and desire for wealth. Hammet points out that the Brigid s greed for the bird causes her to utilize detective Spade as a tool: Help me, Mr. Spade. Help me because I need help so badly, and because if you don t where will I find anyone who can, no matter how willing? (Hammet 35). He treats women with the same petty attitude as he treats men: The hell it is, Miss O Shaughnessy, that a couple of murders... coming together like this get everybody stirred up, make police think they can go the limit, make everybody hard to handle and expensive (Hammett 33). This quotation shows his lack of respect for Brigid who recently lied to him. He is mean and relentless in his pursuit for the truth even when interrogating women. It is not until he falls in love with Brigid that his tough exterior is broken down: Spade combed [Brigid s] hair back from her face with his fingers and said: I m sorry, angel. I thought you d sleep through it (Hammett 92). Symbolically, this quotation signifies the breakdown of Spade s exterior to show his sincere personality. • 36. My Future Goals One of the most definite answers about my future goals, when I was young, was I want to be a doctor. I commonly caught myself fantasizing about treating patients and using the magnificent machines I see in movies to treat people. My ideas were not motivated by my experience. My ideas were based on movies and other nice stories that I had heard to construct my ideas about my ideal job and education potential. Currently, I wish it was as easy as I once thought. As I have matured and gotten older, I have realized that to accomplish any career; one has to work very hard and be passionate about it. I have also learned that my accomplishment of my educational goals is not solemnly based on my abilities, but also the input of the teachers. Through experience, I have learned that for one to achieve, they should not only be motivated to excel, but also be led by talented and motivated teachers. I learned from two separate experiences that the success of a student depends on their input as well as the input of their teachers and their hard work. I learned that the application of different techniques was important for students to understand and get interested in a subject. An example of a negative experience I have had in my educational life was when I was in my junior year of studies. I had an algebra class that I was supposed to pass to do the take an advanced class. The course had an excellent teacher. She was friendly in class, and her delivery was always excellent. However, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been many studies that have tried to prove otherwise, but in the end most of them show little proof of an actual effect. Most evidence that tries to prove that violent games cause someone to be violent has been debunked by other researchers. • 38. Analysis Of Common Sense By George Orwell American history has been founded on various writings which help shape our evolving nation. Common Sense, by Thomas Paine in particular has had a tremendous impact on the unification of common people and leaders. Ultimately, unifying both parties of people would lead to the fight for colonial independence. Although the pamphlet contributed well thought ideas and a new perspective on winning the fight, it wasn t as well written as it could ve been. Paine is credited for the persuasive writing style he used which in turn ended up changing the course of history. But, had he used and omitted George Orwell s principles of good writing, his pamphlet as a whole would express the the sophistication of the English language. As stated in Orwell s Politics and the English Language, ...are used to dress up simple statements and give an air of scientific impartiality to biased judgement (Orwell 131). Based on this quote one can realize in Paine s writing where he used what is known as pretentious diction. • 39. Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For many years people have argued if killer whales should be kept in captivity or not. Blackfish, a documentary on Seaworld and killer whales, had argued with Seaworld against whale captivity. Killer whale captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous to humans, and they can get separated from their families. Killer whales captivity is a major issue because they could become sick or injured there. According to Blackfish, orca whales in captivity tend to become hyper aggressive towards new whales. This results in whale on whale incidents where the whales can get severely injured, or can even die. Some examples of these incidents, as The Dodo has said, are a male whale named Nakai had his chin torn off in a fight. Additionally, a female whale named Kandu broke her own jaw and cut her artery in a fight, eventually bleeding to death. Her calf was circling around her during the event. In addition, the Huffington Post states, animals may suffer from captivity related stresses that lower their resistance and make them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in captivity significantly lower than in the wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed, they often begin gnawing on the edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild are very rare. Also, whales like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the most common reason why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also died due to the disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that the whales would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive. Orca captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of 3 people as shown in Blackfish. First, he and 2 other whales drowned Keltie Byrne, who had slipped into the pool. She was screaming and tried to escape, but the whales pulled her back and drowned her. Then, a ... • 40. Biblical Flood Story Vs. Gilgamesh Flood Biblical Flood Story versus Gilgamesh Flood Story The Biblical Flood story and the Gilgamesh Flood story include similarities and differences. There are two versions we know of the flood story in Babylonian literature, and both have different hero s in each, although the cause of each flood is different. I will prove that I understand the task at hand by reading both of the stories, and taking it apart piece by piece to understand it in a whole. By doing this, I am able to know what I am reading and what the reading is trying to say. I will show how to sum up the ideology of the flood in the different versions and understand how the biblical story has transformed the Gilgamesh myth in meaningful ways. Stephanie Dalley enlightens that, The Epic of Gilgamesh is the longest and greatest literary composition written in cuneiform Akkadian (39). It is an epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia (2100 BC). Many scholars believe that the flood myth was added to the Tablet XI, which was created in the 7th century BCE. This literary composition is considered an epic because of the features that the heroic figure carries. The Epic is about a heroic quest for the fame and immortality, pursued by a man who has an enormous capacity for friendship, for endurance and adventure, for joy and sorrow, a man of strength, and weakness who loses a unique opportunity the epic provides for tracing earlier, independent folk tales... • 42. Relationship Between Humans And The Natural Environment What are the characteristics that define the nature of the relationship between humans and the natural environment? Explain. The characteristics of the relationship are: Dependency on the side of humans on the natural environment s ecosystems to provide support for human social system. Differing cultural or social values impact how much or how little humans use from nature. Population size affects how much of a strain the humans will cause on the environment. Technology has an impact on how efficient the humans use the Earth s resources. What is a definition of a resource? A substance in the environment that is useful to people. Economically and technologically feasible to get. Socially acceptable to use. Why are there resource shortages? Explain. The world s dwindling supplies of arable land, fresh water, energy and minerals essential for the production of food and appliances such as mobile phones, cars, televisions and washing machines cannot meet rising global demand. Dambisa Moyo We have a global supply and demand balance that is out of equilibrium. As economies develop and more citizens gain higher wages their discretionary incomes rise with it. With that rise brings generational waves of new buyers to the world economy at a rates that have not been seen before. When the India s or China s populations of over 1 billion have more urban middle income citizens than rural low income citizens those people need more things to find a happy life. Define overpopulation. Why do some people believe there are too many people on Earth? Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. Some believe there are too many people on Earth because the more people we have the more resources we need to use to support them, there will be less jobs to support an outsized population for developing nations, and the need for limited or scarce resources will lead to more conflicts with a greater possibility of those conflicts leading to war. • 43. Components Of Integrated Project Delivery What is Integrated Project Design? There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all participants, business coordination s, and business systems, and the way they interact with the specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective final product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub contractors, consultants and suppliers. Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained as well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone s role in the process. Team building is another major part of IPD. Under each main ... • 44. Scurvy Is Not A Disease Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin C added to the diet to offset what has been missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California, and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. In Bautista s work Still Life with Grapes, Flowers, and Shells, 1628 reflects the new delights that the new world had to offer . The arrangement of shells and exotic birds and flowers, is a combination of old and new: with a traditional style of painting depicting exciting and unexplored goods. This could possibly be a metaphor for the rather old and powerful Spanish empire, exploring into the unknown. The subtle uses of bright bold colours of peach and chartreuse, as well as warm earth tones are a clear reflection of the South American tropics, along with their exotic flora and fauna, and humid climate. It also creates moods of excitement in anticipation of what else there is to explore. The lusciousness of the brush strokes and use of highlights give the painting a new life, in the both things harsh like the foliage of the plants and soft like plumage of the birds. The sombre background and traditional table ground the contrasting arrangement and forms the basic structure of the piece. It also competes with the display, just like Spain and its conquest against other nations. Margaret Olley is possibly one of Australia s most famous still life painters.
