Introduction
 Career is
 An Identity in society as it indicates type of work you are involved
in
 Associated with social status with designation a person holds
and category of profession
 Is a choice made by a person which
 May be lifelong or
 Developed over a period through working experience over a period of time
or sector
 Career should help to be one to be economically
independent and socially self reliant
 There must be sense of pride and satisfaction in chosen Career
 Hence managing a career is like managing own self
 Some questions need to be answered are
 What is a perfect career?
 How can I choose a career ?
The Perfect Career
 A perfect career is one
 individual can get to do “What they love the most”
 Hence must have enthusiasm to do all activities related to work
 Must be good at “Skill” related to the work
 Skill is an inherent qualities imbibed in personality or which can be
acquired through orientation and training
 Must be able to pay well for economic consideration,
sustaining interest and motivation to chosen career
 Presence of all three in right proportion is an answer
to perfect career

 What are my interests in life?
 What I want to be?
 What are my skills?
 What type of career would be in alignment with my skills and interests?
 What I will be comfortable in doing as part of my work?

 Evaluate those interests and find what you liked
about those activities
 What challenges those activities offered?
 What skills you need to develop further to
continue in those activities?

 A launch pad to take you altitude in life
 Unique focus and chalked out path to travel without wandering
 Career goal can be

Introduction  Career is  An Identity in society as it indicates type of work you are involved in  Associated with social status with designation a person holds and category of profession  Is a choice made by a person which  May be lifelong or  Developed over a period through working experience over a period of time or sector  Career should help to be one to be economically independent and socially self reliant  There must be sense of pride and satisfaction in chosen Career  Hence managing a career is like managing own self  Some questions need to be answered are  What is a perfect career?  How can I choose a career ?

The Perfect Career  A perfect career is one  individual can get to do “What they love the most”  Hence must have enthusiasm to do all activities related to work  Must be good at “Skill” related to the work  Skill is an inherent qualities imbibed in personality or which can be acquired through orientation and training  Must be able to pay well for economic consideration, sustaining interest and motivation to chosen career  Presence of all three in right proportion is an answer to perfect career

Career planning  Career planning is essential because ones made must lead to Rewarding  Economically  Professionally and  Socially  Key elements of career planning are  self interest  Enthusiasm  Following questions must be answered for deeper understanding  What are my interests in life?  What I want to be?  What are my skills?  What type of career would be in alignment with my skills and interests?  What I will be comfortable in doing as part of my work?
  • 6. Career planning  TIPS for career planning  List 10 activities you enjoyed in last 4 years  Evaluate those interests and find what you liked about those activities  What challenges those activities offered?  What skills you need to develop further to continue in those activities?
  • 7. Determing a career goal  Career goal is  A launch pad to take you altitude in life  Unique focus and chalked out path to travel without wandering  Career goal can be  specific designation like  Executive  Administrator  Manager  Finance Manager  Entrepreneur etc  Or Sector  Government  Corporate Cos  MNC  Manufacturing  Scientific  Service Sector etc  Career Goal has to be based on individual aspiration and also have enriching aspects like  Help in finding possibilities unseen at present  Guide you in doing what you want in life rather than drifting in a job  Should be based on interest and skills ,career possibilities and trends  Think strategically to steps to accomplish your goal after choosing your career  Prepare a workable career plan

Career Decision making  A Career must be self rewarding experience with scope of self improvement  Based on systematic process of decision making  Positive attitude couple with objective self analysis acts as good foundation  Sound Decision making Process  Orient in areas like  Career information  Career prospects  Trend in industry in terms of employbility  Direction of public expenditure  Corporate culture and governance  Study of prospective Cos with regard to role and expectations  Updates through newspaper/magazines with particular ref to employment column for openings and skill required  Updates with career portals and social media may be added advantage
  • 9. Career Decision making  May also involve  Family expectations  Peer group pressure  Help from professional career counselors on one to one basis may be another option  Finally decision must be made on  Interest  Goal  Skills and  Potential
