Gay marriage persuasive essay
Gay Marriage in the United States
The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial
topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the
U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other
twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage
should be legal across the United States.
Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage,
then the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of
the United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content

I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his
post menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now
surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to
persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought.
Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an
interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their
marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are
all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by
these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the
advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising
children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own
from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that
the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as
those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant.
Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and
moisture out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep
your home cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down
rolling shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

Differences Between The Renaissance And Romantic Period...
British literature is constantly evolving. This became overwhelmingly apparent in the survey of
literature from the varying literary periods analyzed in English III. The reason for such is the ever
changing nation in which the authors lived. The stark differences in life during the Renaissance
and Romantic Era resulted in authors writing with the intention to convey different themes.
Specifically, one key theme of the Renaissance was the role of God in people s lives, which
manifests itself in John Donne s sermon Meditation 17 was well as John Miltons poem When I
Consider How My Light Is Spent. In the Romantic Era, one theme around which writers tended
to focus was the beauty and power of nature. This theme is overwhelmingly clear in William
Wordsworth s poem The World Is Too Much with Us and Percy Shelley s poem Ode to the West
Wind. A theme nearly omnipresent in the Renaissance was the role of God in people s lives.
One major work it appears in is John Milton s When I Consider How My Light Is Spent. In this
sonnet, Milton reflects on his blindness and its impact to his standing as a Christian. This is
evident when he fondly asks, Doth God exact day labor, light denied? In other words, he is
asking God whether he still demands good works that may not be possible to to his disability. The
answer to such question is a clear no, as God doth not need... man s work. Moreover, this murmur
elaborates its position, that whoever best accepts life s burdens ( His

Wonder Woman Analysis
Since their inception, comics have been a way to raise public awareness and introduce readers to
current events plaguing the nation, and to represent the struggle of minorities. Often, the characters
addressing such issues are superheroes who are both inspirations in their successes and relatable in
their struggles. As the first recognized female superhero, Wonder Womanfaces and overcomes
challenges as she opens a door for women into the world of comics. William Marston s goal for
Wonder Woman was to create an independent heroine with feminist undertones who could succeed
on the same level as the popular male heroes of the time. He wanted to set up a standard among
children and young people of strong, free, courageous womanhood; and to... Show more content on

Wonder Woman was a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure
of a good and beautiful woman, perfect for the face of the fight for women s rights and
recognition (187). The strong female superhero became the face of Ms. Magazine, a women s
rights publication, with the iconic cover staring the character and proclaiming Wonder Woman
for President, (centerfold, last page). She also appears in an underground comic book titled It
Ain t Me Babe that was published in July 1970 by the Women s Liberation Basement Press in
Berkeley, California, alongside other popular female comic characters who rebel against their
reliance on men: Veronica ditches Archie for Betty, Petunia Pig tells Porky to fix his own dinner,
and Supergirl tells Superman to get lost (centerfold, It Ain t Me Babe ). Wonder Woman s
participation in this feminist rebelling reinforced her role as an icon in the feminist movement. The
character has internal references that allude to feminist ideas directly and are integral in her
representing the movement. The way she is powerless when bound in chains by a man symbolizes
feminist propaganda and protests involving chains restricting women and women breaking free of
their bindings. On page 85 of The Secret History of Wonder Woman, the image of Lou Rogers
tearing off bonds representing the anti female sentiment in politics is situated

Guy Vanderhaeghe s The Last Crossing
Guy Vanderhaeghe s The Last Crossing is a Western of subtly crossed borders. Vanderhaeghe
elicits a sense of blurred lines between opposites, giving the illusion that boundaries are not so
statically fixed. The historical figure Jerry Potts illustrates that the division between Indigenous and
white is not so easily distinguished by ways of appearances, languages, and relations. The lines of
health and illness intertwine as the reader follows Addington s syphilis, Custis mystery ailment, and
the Indigenous peoplesstruggle with smallpox. Justice, punishment, and the law become subjective
in the novel with regards to Madge s death, Addington s military massacre, and Indigenous
resistance against unfair treatment. Distinctions between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His abilities with languages lead to his [making] a living as an interpreter and guide (105). In The
Last Crossing Potts is used as a guide primarily, but his gift with languages bridges the gap between
whites and Indigenous, as he is able to speak English to the Gaunt brothers. Without the
understanding of language, the relationship between the Metis man and the English brothers would
never have been established. PROOF COMMENT
Names create an identity, and Vanderhaeghe uses this convention to further confuse the division
between Indigenous and white. Jerry Potts is also referred to as Ky yo kosi and Bear Child
throughout the novel, mirroring his own inner conflict of being unsure of what he really is. He
wants to be a Blackfoot, a Real Person (Vanderhaeghe 106) but he is most commonly called by his
white name, reminding the reader of his positions on both sides. Another instance for confusion is
when a Metis brother is referred to with his white and Indigenous name together in a sentence.
Unborn Calf...McKay s pony (330).
Health and illness do not have concrete characteristics in The Last Crossing. Addington s battle
against syphilis, Custis near fatal ailment, and the Indigenouss constant fight with smallpox show
that appearances are deceiving. Addington is battling with syphilis throughout the book and his
health fluctuates between well and unwell. Addington s health picks up from being liverish and out
of sorts, complexion poor, teeth

Finding Forrester Is Not Kept For Long After
A black teenage boy living in the Bronx and a best selling novelist living in isolation. Sounds
like complete opposites right? Well they actually are quite similar but in fact these two s
differences do help them push each other to new understandings and ways of thinking. In the
movie Finding Forrester, two unforeseen individuals become companions and form a bond as
teacher and student. In the beginning both characters are closed off to the world in some way.

This observation describes Jamal looking past Forrester s skin color and the stereotypes that
come with it, to find a man who is inspirational and supportive. Just like he did Massie, Jamal
could have judged Forrester and ruined this influential relationship in his life. Jamals quick to
make assumptions attitude hinders him as it limits his connections with others. Evolving from
pompous behavior further represents when Forrester refuses to defend Jamal because he wants
to protect himself but after he reads the letter Jamal wrote him, he chooses to sacrifice his
privacy to protect his friend. Forrester then comes to the school s writing contest, that Jamal
was accused of committing plagiarism for, and reads Jamal s writing and proves that Jamal had
not stolen any work. It comes down to a moment of truth for both men: for Jamal, a choice
between following his dream or betraying a friend, and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed
off or to look at the world through new eyes. (Movielocity, 2001, p.3) Forrester, left with a
difficult choice, chooses to help his friend. This choice allows him to expose himself to the world
once again and then reverse the bitterness he once felt towards the human race. Self centered people
must alter themselves to be more welcoming and supportive to people. Through conflict with

Conflictism In Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist
In Franz Kafka s short story, A Hunger Artist the author introduces the Hunger Artist as the
protagonist. The protagonist is a professional faster; he fasts to prove he is the best. The conflict
of the story consists of Man versus society, in this case the Hunger Artist serves as Man and his
audience serves as society. The conflict starts because the audience does not understand the reason
why the Hunger Artists fasts. Eventually the audience loses interest because the Hunger Artist is no
longer in fashion. Due to the loss of interest, the Hunger Artist starts to struggle with his pride
trying to explain to his audience why he fasts, so he decides to set a fasting record, which
eventually leads to his death. Throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two realities, what is and what others think, created a mockery between the circus audience
and the Hunger Artist. He wanted his work to be legitimate, but still had to obey his manger and
audience s demands. According to Kafka, It was impossible to fight against this lack of
understanding, against this world of misunderstanding. This means that the more attention the
Hunger Artist received, the more difficult it was for society to understand the meaning behind his
actions. Consequently, he would never be able to achieve the goals he hoped for. During his stay
at the circus no one believed that the Hunger Artist could fast for a long time. The audience
eventually got tired of seeing someone just sit and fast for entertainment. The audience wanted to
witness something more exciting, which led to his replacement, a tiger. ...People got used to the
strange notion that in these times they would want to pay attention to a hunger artist, and with
this habitual awareness the judgment on him was pronounced. He might fast as well as he could
and he did but nothing could save him anymore. People went straight past him. (Kafka)
Eventually, his art was practically going to waste. It is not that the audience did not like him, his
art was amusing, and he was simply becoming a freak show. As stated by Jstor.org, During his
fasts, the hunger artist is observed by relays of watchers whose task is to see that he does

The Final Lines From Beowulf s Speech
Consider the final lines from Beowulf s speech when he asks Hrothgar for permission to fight
Grendel (ll. 440 455). In these final lines Beowulf envisions the scene of Grendel s victory. How
does our translation use alliteration, assonance, and compound words to make vivid the nature of
Grendel, the devastating effects of that possible victory, and the necessary acceptance of God s
will and the working of fate? S2 Answer #1 Beowulf:
Our translation almost seems to create key words in the lines that contain alliteration and assonance.
Examples such as fight with the fiend (440), frenzy fouling (449), or fear on that flower (444) add
a sense of drama and heightened awareness to the lines because of their bold, descriptive ... Show

2. Consider carefully the cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood. How does the cross s
narrative adhere to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism in its depiction of the crucifixion? How does
the cross s narrative deviate from Anglo Saxon notions of heroism in its depiction of the
crucifixion? In answering this question, please refer to the Anglo Saxon notions of heroism
discussed in class. I m not listing particular formal and stylistic devices because those of you with
the 8th edition have a different translation than those of you with the 9th edition, but you will need
to select key formal and stylistic devices in order to provide evidence for your claims.
Answer #2 The Dream of the Rood:
The cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood adhered to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism
because Jesus is depicted as a triumphant hero that defeats human sin which is startlingly unlike
the actual Biblical account. Essentially, poets in the Middle Ages put Jesus into the most popular
box of the time, the warrior box, in order to appeal to Pagans. Regardless, Anglo Saxon heroes
were aggressive, violent, and hypermasculine so Christ inherently subverts being a perfect Anglo
Saxon hero because of his

Backup And Recovery Essay
[h1] 5 Signs Your Backup and Recovery Solution Needs Help
Meta description: Companies need to assess their backup and recovery to ensure it doesn t lack
coherence, visibility, sufficient storage, and ability to recover current data.
How confident is your business in its backup and recovery solution? Many companies set up their
backup and recovery strategy and simply put faith in its ability to work in the event of an outage.
Most companies treat backup and recovery like an umbrella. They only think about it when it rains.
The 2016 State of Disaster Recovery report found that 40% of companies fail to test their backup
and recovery regularly, doing so only once a year.
If you haven t tested your backup and recovery in a while, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As data volumes increase, so do the capacity demands placed on your backup and recovery
resources. If your business hasn t planned for workload increases, you may not have enough room
to store all your backup data.
To prepare for future backup capacity needs, your business needs to be able to scale easily. Data
management tools also help to lessen the burden of backing up data. Compression and deduplication
make backing up and archiving information more efficient.
[h2] 4) Dependence on On site Infrastructure
The consequences of natural disasters and ransomware attacks are lessons in why backing up on
site is unwise. The same gale force winds or flood that takes out your primary storage will disable
your on site backup systems. Recent incarnations of ransomware automatically delete backup files.
In the current risk landscape, using a colocation site or cloud data center for backup makes more
sense. If your primary data center is compromised, your vital data will be safe at a secondary
location.
[h2] 5) Lack of Access to Current Data
Today s companies rely on real time analytics to make the right business decisions. Setting rapid
recovery time (RTOs) and point objectives (RPOs) is the key to accessing fresh data after an
outage. The faster your business can recover data without losing much information, the better.
If your company backs up infrequently, you may not be able to meet recovery point

Reflective Essay On Belief In God
I think the first clue that I would never be religious was when I started falling asleep during
Sunday school. I remember being seven and not understanding how you could pray to some
invisible dude in the sky. I was baptized Methodist, but my family stopped attending our church
after a change in reverends when I was 8. After that, my flimsy connection to Methodism
disappeared entirely. Our family had been pretty lax about religion, saying a brief grace at dinner
the only religious act we performed outside of attending church. I ve always viewed religion as
having a belief in Godor gods which have influence in the goings on of Earth and everything in
it. If I had to label my relation with religion nowadays, agnostic would be the most accurate term.
I can t bring myself to deny the existence of deities, as there is so much about the universe that
we know nothing about. That s how I deal with the fact that some people are religious we can t
prove that there are deities, but we also can t prove that they don t exist. It wouldn t be fair to
invalidate someone else s beliefs to justify mine when even my own could be proven wrong. I
can be correct and so can someone of another view because our beliefs are just our perceptions of
the world they don t actually govern how the world really works, at least those things outside of
human control. If I think that the universe formed from the Big Bang and my friend thinks that
God created the universe, we re both right because we have no

DISNEY S INFLUENCE ON YOUNG GIRLS GENDER ROLE AND SELF ESTEEM
Genevie M. Sauceda
Texas A M University San Antonio Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine if a relationship between gender role and self esteem exist
in girls who view Disney Princess movies. Twenty one elementary fifth grade girl s ages ten and
eleven were questioned on how Disney princess movies influence their perception of gender role
and self esteem. The results suggest there is a relationship between the two variables, however it is
a weak correlation. It also revealed gender stereotypical behavior roles (e.g. gentle, weak,
dependent, beautiful, and perform domestic duties) did not have a statistical significant in young
girls self esteem.

Since the mid twentieth century, researchers have studied the amount of television watched by
American children. They found children spend more time, almost 5,000 hours, watching television
than any other activity except sleep prior to entering into grade school (Liebert, Neale, Davidson,
1973). These results rank television as the main source of entertainment for young children between
the ages of three to fives years old.

Comp 2 Class Reflection
Writing is a skill that needs to be practiced. Before this class, I didn t care about the writing because
my high school teachers didn t care about my writing, as long as I turn a paper, I would be fine.
Now, at the end of my Comp 2 class, I can assure I have improved my skills. From simply using

another example is the class, instead of writing ENGL 1231 201 I wrote ENGL 1231, Section 201.

Analysis Of Covers The Ground By Gary Snyder
Title
To people foreign to California, the state is boxed into a set of stereotypical characteristics. The
Golden State has received labels such as surf nation, and liberal land. But to those who ve gotten a
chance to live within this great state appreciate the opportunities and ambitions that come with
living in California. Furthermore, what truly differentiates California from any other place in the
world is the consistent paradoxical environment. This notion is best epitomized by the city of
Sacramento and the cultural, economic and social change that the city has undergone. Gary Snyder
communicates this theme through building around John Muir s ideologies in his work of Covers
The Ground. Snyder s work exemplifies the contradiction between nature and innovation. It
presents the paradoxical state individuals around the world face on whether to accept the
innovation and accept the benefits that come with it, or stay true to the roots of nature and the
history that accompanies it. This dilemma boils down to whether we as a race embrace the
progression of time and the paradoxes that follow, or we find solace in our current state.
The inception of Covers The Ground, begins with establishing the setting of the city of
Sacramento. Understanding the natural beauty of the city is best conveyed by establish vivid
imagery and Snyder accomplishes this by describing the blossoming almond orchard acres. As the
image of nature sparks into the reader s head, Gary Snyder is

Mary Slessor exhibited determination like no other. While in Calabar, she felt the Lord leading her
to a nearby tribe, otherwise known as the Okoyong people, who was specially noted for its
lawless heathenism (Livingstone 46). The tribe consistently denied her request to come see
them and were adamant that they did not want any missionaries. Despite this discouragement,
she set out on her own in a canoe down the Calabar River, so that she could minister to the
people. When she decided she wanted to make a home among this tribe, the people of her
previous village told her she would surely be killed. However, she preserved knowing that Lord s
purpose for her involved the Okoyong people. It was in this village that she cared for the
children, began to teach them how to read and write, shared community with the women, and
planted the first ever Okoyong church. Beyond her determination, she maintained a courageous
attitude among this people group. During her time there, the son of the chief of the tribe had
died from an accident caused by a log. Because of this, the chief sentenced all the people who
were around to death. Instead of being fearful for her own life, Mary fought for the lives of these
people against the drunken mob. She devised a plan to help the prisoners escape and trusted in the
Lord to help her execute her plan without using force. After demonstrating such valor, she managed

hemoglobin. This slower rate of release leads to a lower amount of oxygen available to your
muscles, making contraction more difficult.

Essay On Mexico Drugs
When the words kidnappings, torture, and beheadings, places that come to mind are Syria, Iraq,
and Afghanistan. But there is a north american country, much closer, that is surging in the amount
of violent crimes like those aforementioned: Mexico. Despite being widely known as a place for
spring breakers to have parties or for families to enjoy the warm summer weather, in recent years,
Mexicos crime and violence has gotten worse, with 40,000 lives taken since 2006. Even
Acapulco, Mexico s most famous Pacific Port has been littered with tragic stories concerning
shootings and robberies. Cancun and Cozumel, two of the biggest tourist towns represent some
of the worst hazards. Cancun boasts a population of about 500,000. And like any city with that
many people, crime makes itself right at home. Tijuana, one of Mexico s biggest and busiest
cities, it s also one of the most crime ridden. It s a major border point for motorists entering the
country from the U.S. and therefore makes it a large target for gangs and drug empires to create...

A Study On Australian Indigenous Art
Another aspect of Australia is its art. There are many type of art present in Australia, but one in
particular is Australian Indigenous art, which is the oldest ongoing tradition of art in the world.
Initial forms of artistic Aboriginal expression were rock carvings, body painting and ground
designs, which date back more than 30,000 years. After Australiawas colonized the sale of artifacts
occurred between indigenous and non indigenous people on a widespread basis throughout south
eastern Australia. The quality and variety of Australian Indigenous art produced today reflects the
richness and diversity of Indigenous culture and the distinct differences between tribes, such as
languages, dialects and geographic landscapes. Art is an important part of Aboriginal life because it
connects past and present, the people and the land, and the supernatural and reality. Indigenous art
now ranges over different mediums, from works on paper and canvas to fibre and glass, because of
the introduction of these sources to the Aborigines in 1970 by a school teacher. The result was a
flourishing art movement throughout the Western Desert that stimulated an arts industry that now
generates around $200 million a year nationally. This benefits Australia s economy and is one way
they are involved globally.

Interpretation of the Balcony Scene by Baz Luhrmann and...
Interpretation of the Balcony Scene by Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli of William
Shakespreare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story written by William
Shakespeare. Two interpretations were made of this text into a film by the two directors, Baz
Luhrmann (1996) and Franco Zeffirelli (1968). The films use different types of media to portray
the characters and the overall context of Shakespeare s play. I will be focusing on Act two Scene

Luhrmann s interpretation of the film we are introduced to a modern scene which makes it easier

It triggers off when Romeo bumps into the statues and smashes them on the floor which makes
the dogs bark and there is an addition of rustling leaves, these are some of the sound effects that
have been used, which builds up tension and causes more of a scene. In action to this, Romeo
climbs up the wall that leads to Juliet s balcony in order to get to her. The camera shot used is a
close up of Romeo to show his emotional distress that he is feeling. The statues in this scene
represent Juliet as a goddess and that she is very important, this is a key fact to remember in
Romeo s eyes. This version is different to the text as Juliet does not say her famous lines from
the balcony, but comes down from her room to the pool outside, where she recites her lines with
passion thinking of her dear Romeo. In Zeffirelli s account of the film, Romeo is shown down
below in the bushes whereas Juliet is the higher and more powerful person out of the two of them,
and she is shown as the higher person sitting on the balcony. Once again this has been showing the
higher and lower and lower angle shots. It also shows a point of view camera shot throughout this
scene, meaning that the film would be played throughout the character s eyes, as if Romeo or Juliet
were filming it themselves. This is done a lot in

Essay on Bravery in The Tempest
The Theme of Bravery in The Tempest
Bravery performs a very important role in The Tempest. Different than a motif, the theme of
bravery actually takes form in Shakespeare s play and develops the play itself. However, like a
motif, bravery is used intermittently throughout the play in different form and context. It captures
different meanings and performs different capacities erratically.
A denotative definition from the 15th century, according to the Merriam Webster Collegiate
Dictionary (10 ed.), portrays brave as meaning, [from Old Italian and Spanish, meaning courageous,
wild; probably from Latin, meaning barbarous]. The dictionary then defines brave as a. having
courage: dauntless b. making fine show: colorful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example from the text of brave/bravery would be the presence of spirits and the brave
god [that] bears celestial liquor (II.ii.159). Caliban only knows spirit and charm. He has not yet
encountered what we would call a normal human relationship. The spirits of Stephano and Trinculo
are brave to the kneeling Caliban because they bear a fine show and heavenly charm that will
satisfy his need to be subject to something that is not earthly.
On and on throughout the text, the theme of bravery is evident. Brave and bravery demonstrate our
thematic process throughout the play through the Prosepero s realization of the benefits of
forgiveness over revenge. The thematic direction of Miranda s brave coming of age, and realizing of
her femininity and love of Ferdinand. The brave new world conqueror s Stephano and Trinculo
who are setting out to claim the island as their own and bravely breed a continent of issue from
the brave wonder of Miranda. Stephano bravely professes, Monster, I will kill this man: his
daughter and I will be king and queen save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself will be viceroys.
Dost thou the clouds methought would open and show riches Ready to drop upon me that, when I
waked, I cried to dream again.
Variations of the word bravery come in all different configurations. We have a brave monster
(II.ii.257), in Caliban. We have a brave lass (III.ii.153) that will bring

Maus Parent Child Relationship Essay
How do graphic novels allow for explorations of parent child relationships and/or the idea of
family?
This essay will look at the question of how graphic novels allow for the exploration of parent child
relationships and the idea of intergenerational family relations using primarily the works Maus by
Art Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjani Satrapi. The primary relations are key to exploring this
concept of family. In Maus the key relationship is between the characters Artie and Vladek, son
and father respectively and Marji and her unnamed parents and grandmother. The dynamics of the
family relationships are explored in relation to the missing ; in Maus this is formed by the loss of
Artie s mother to suicide in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the removing of Marji from the
family unit, primarily for education but also to protect her from the impact of the Iranian revolution

why they still behave in such a way when they are safe. His frustration at his father throwing out

buy as they are associated with him. For marketers this seems appropriate to their beliefs that
with the correct marketing mix a meaning can be put across to the target market that will
increase sales. This argument tries to get across that creative industries are not just restricted to
film industry, fashion or theatre. This approach does also have its critics though, Thompson et
al (2007) says that even if these products are sold through direct or indirect interpretations it fails
to recognize these products still need to be produced. Take for example the Adidas running shoe
that came back as a premium priced retro shoe that is now fashionable. However it does not
appreciate that the product still had to be made by real workers in real factories, they still need
traditional skill sets and employment structures. People at Adidas did have the creative freedom
to think of the new retro comeback but this is a very small part of the company. So yes creative
economies are expanding but not at a fast enough rate to be a leading economy in any way.
So it is clear that we do not have a significant cultural economy as a product needs to be

another was in. Cunning, crafty, subtle, and hot in the pursuit of her intended designs. This is just
one example of a few sections where I thought the information was difficult to understand not only

the executioner. After the Governor and Attorney General provide the okay, the inmate is escorted

Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge
The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to
which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict
it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power
against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject.
What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and
power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply
power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the
independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a
form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be
revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences
develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the
assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion.
According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge,
power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive
process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source
of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the

Parliamentary and presidential systems, the differences between responsible government and

The Effects Of Sharks On The World s Ocean Without Those...
Sympathy for JAWS Sharks are known as one of the deadliest creatures in the aquatic ecosystem,
but what would happen in the world s ocean without those sharks? The depopulation of sharks is
increasing dramatically due to human impacts. If this continues, it will negatively impact all
aspects of ocean life and environment (Ferretti et al, 2010). The depopulation of a creature so
high on the aquatic food chain can lead to the overpopulation of other organisms, which causes a
domino effect on all creatures in the ocean. This could either rapidly increase or decrease their
population, altering the food chain altogether (Ferretti et al, 2010). Focusing on how the
population decreases is the only way to prevent it. Elaborating on the over fishing of such
important creatures, as well as the negative effects that go along with depopulation, is the most
proficient way to relay the message of these processes being such an issue. It is remarkable how
important one sea creature can be to the entirety of the oceanic food chain as well as to the
aquatic ecosystem as a whole. When some people think of, they think of JAWS, not many people
take into consideration how important large sharks roles are in the ocean. For example, focusing
on the biology of sharks helps to further inform people about the basic background and
information of what some may perceive to be as monsters. It is known that sharks have a very
slow reproduction rate, taking around two years to birth very few pups, making

money because the president makes a lot less than what he does.
Some people such as Muslims, Mexicans, and Democrats might think that Donald Trump has had a
negative effect on the presidential election because they might think he says and does mean things
to people. But what he wants to do is fix America by, strengthening the army, shut down parts of
the internet where Isis can not us it to recruit American people. And provide more funding for
police training and a lot more. In my opinion he s saying what should be done to make America
better than what it is now.
In conclusion I think that Donald Trump has had a very positive effect on the presidential
campaign he speaks the truth and is not just doing it for the money. He has said everything he
wants to do to make America great again and I believe the that is what he will do if he becomes

The term Asian American refers to an extremely diverse group of people, with varying cultures,
histories, views of mental illness, and views of suicide. It has been estimated that almost 50 distinct
Asian American ethnic groups speaking 30 different languages reside in the United States alone,
(Hapa). Many Asian Americans are very traditional familys Asian Americans are more likely than
other Americans to value marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success (Saw) . The poem

A lot of children that come from an Asian culture background a prefer to die then to have a bad
grade in school. The thinking of suicide comes from The pressure to succeed and the shame that
results from the failure to do so, which are associated with psychological distress and suicide,
have been documented among youth in Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka, China and Japan
(Saw). Furth more this example shows us that many Asian American culture hate to seea family
member bring shame to their family and would rather them to not fail in life but to always
succeed. In the poem Suicide Note the main character explains in her Note that she is not smart
enough (Kirszner l.3) The main character feels that she is not smart in enough in school. In a
summary before the poem the author explains that Her suicide note contained an apology to her
parents for having received less than a perfect four point grade average (Kirszner 683). This
example shows that the main character had to have a great grade in school if not she would not
feel content with herself. Education is one of the most important goals in a life of an Asian
American citizen and if not accomplished very well could result in Depression or even Suicide.

Mark Twain- American Author
Some of the most riveting books in not just American literature but in all of history, was written
by this famous author. Twain, an American writer, is one of the major authors of American
fiction. Also, he is considered the greatest humorist in American literature (Alan Gribben, np).
Mark Twain was influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of
much of it in his writing. Growing up in the 1870s, Twain s society was much different than
growing up now. He grew up during the outbreak of the civil war and he lived during the time of
major cynical political corruption that began in the late 1860s all the way to 1900. He was also
raised during a time where slave holding was acceptable, and encouraged. Under his father s
influence, he was told that slavery was justified through biblical principles. The majority of
people in Hannibal, where Twain grew up, thought this and was the reason why everyone was
proslavery. The local pulpit taught us that God approved it, that it was a holy thing and that the
doubter need only look in the Bible if he wished to settle his mind and then the texts were read
aloud to us to make the matter sure; if the slaves themselves had an aversion to slavery, they
were wise and said nothing... (Twain 212 ) This quote portrayed how the people Twain grew up
with encouraged slavery because it was accepted by God. However, even though Twain grew up in
this condition he was never a supporter of slavery or racism. This point

English II Period 5

Post Classical and Classical Chinese Religions China is a very influential world power and has
been for many years. The Classical and Post Classical years in China were a time of achievement
and advancement, especially in the religious movement. Post Classical and Classical China were
very important historical periods, and their religions, and the effect of them on the world around
them highlighted that importance. Classical China was a breeding ground for new ideas,
inventions, and most importantly, religions. Although Classical China was littered with different
religions and beliefs, Confucianism was the most prominent. Confucianism is based on the

This exception is the religion of Buddhism, which transformed the Post Classical era and the
history of China. Islam spread like wildfire, which was surprising due to the popularity of other
Chinese religions at this time, such as Confucianism and Daoism. Trade routes began and
facilitated the spread of it and were influential in spreading things other than just goods (Strayer).
The diffusion of Buddhism into China is extremely important to Chinese people and Chinese
history. Buddhist monasteries sprang up in cities and trade routes, and many people were
converted just by immersion in the religion and by just following the crowd. Buddhism was very
big for merchants and they had a big role in the spread of Buddhism to less populous villages and
towns. While China was leading a massive Buddhist revival, an effort to revive Confucian values
was also spreading. This effort was called Neo Confucianism, which means new Confucianism. This
new religious belief system combined Confucian values with Buddhist and Daoist influences. This
new way of thinking was popular, and even slowed the Buddhist movement, but Buddhism
eventually won, amassing hundreds of thousands of

Mental Illnesses In Canada
Over the past decades, mental health has become a prominent social issue. People around the
world suffer from mental illnesses. The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) reports
approximately 20% of Canadians will have a mental illness within their lifetime Fortunately,
society has become educated towards this dilemma. We now have clubs/ programs that inform
about the problem. We hear that more and more plans towards improving mental health are
already in the works (while some have been completed). Just like every social issue, mental
illnesses do carry some controversy. However, this controversy may be the reason that many do not
seek help for it. Apparently, around 50% of Canadian citizens who felt that they suffered from any...

From personal experience, I had a couple friends who have gone through various mental illnesses
like depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There may not been a
scientific or logical approach towards analysing one s mental health. It does not make it anymore
real. I have witnessed a bunch of people go through this. They were known to be pretty normal and
easy going to others. When it came to me, they did not have to put up their facade. After they
confided in me with the truth, it only became clearer just how upset and depressed they really were.
At times, they do not really need to say anything. You can sense the vibe of self hatred and
extremely thoughts just pulsing through their brain. Society does not need any scientific evidence
to prove that someone is feeling emotions of resentment, sadness, anger, or grief. We can see
through one s behaviour; Maybe that person may actually reveal their true thoughts to the world.
Nevertheless, mental illness is a real problem. Having the stigma that mental disorders might not
exist can only stop those suffering from getting the treatment that they need. Removing the thought
that mental illness is merely an illusion can go a long

Analyzing The Essay Black Beauty Pageants
Hammersmith, London, early 1970s, from the portfolio Black Beauty Pageants Courtesy of
Raphael Albert/Autograph ABP is the artifact I have chosen. Picture this if you will, a beautiful,
regal looking young black woman with an almost exotic pose. She is adorned by opulent
looking jewelry on her fingers and around her neck. There is also a mysterious man standing in
the background by a door. He seems oblivious to the beauty that is in his presence. The man
seems to be looking away, off into the distance. The visual elements of this artifact are the most
important, everything from the lighting to how the model is posed gives off elegance and power.

The Importance Of Issues In Special Education
Introduction
Special education creates opportunities for students, parents, teachers and related staff and
administrators to work together to improve educational results students with disabilities. IEPs and
504s are the plans that help educators to develop education for each student with disabilities. The
IEP is an important legal document that handles issues in special education properly. There are so
many rules that school personnel must follow. In this assignment, I will identify effective
procedures for documentation and remediation of the teacher, her behaviors and the allegations
about her regarding a special education student.
1) Detail all steps you would take relative to the complaint by Julia s parents. Identify any and all
steps and documentation necessary under your state s laws and district policies, as well as specify
what any documentation you should include and what you will do with it.
First, I would suggest the parent file to a formal complaint about the teachers if they feel the
teacher is treating Julia differently than every other student and singling her out. According to
Washoe County School District (WCSD) policy, student or parent must fill out the formal student
complaint based on allegations of discrimination. The WCSD board policy is specifically
connected student issues and parent complaints, not every concern or a complaint is covered under
the WCSD policy and procedures. Some complaint have their own policy and procedures to follow.

Starch, Dextran, And Cellulose
Starch, dextran, and cellulose are all made up of glucose but differ in the arrangement the glucose
molecules. Starch is made of large polysaccharide chains that are arranged in a semi crystalline
form. The glucose in dextran is composed in a linear pattern, the chains are very straight. Lastly in
cellulose, glucoseis packed tightly together in a parallel formation.
Glycogen is a branched polymer consisting of multiple side chains. The glucose is linked together
using a (1 4) glyosidic bonds. The branches of the polysaccharide is linked via a (1 6) glyosidic
bonds between. In relation to Amylase, the enzyme can hydrolyze glucose from glycogen because it
can remove the a (1 4) glyosidic bonds.
Different parts of the human body are at different levels of the pH scale in relation to its
function. Specifically, the stomach is one of the most acidic parts of the body having a pH level
of 1.5 3.0. Because of its high acidity enzymes such as amylase would not be able to operate in
the stomach. According to the observations amylase has proven to work optimally at the pH level

Advantages Of Predictive Policing
Can Predictive Policing Benefit Society?
According to Times Magazine, President Donald Trump signed three executive orders that will
intensify the criminalization of communities of color, under the false premise the need to increase
law and order. Racism was bad before Trump, now it has worsened, is there anything else that
could make things worse? In Police Program Aims to Pinpoint Those Most Likely To Commit
Crimes by John Eligon and Timothy Williams it states that predictive policing is using math and
police awareness to stop or prevent crimes from happening. ...An experiment taking place in
dozens of police departments across the country, one in which authorities have turned to complex
computer algorithms to try to pinpoint people most likely to be involved in future crimes (Eligon
and Williams). This means that police use predictive policing as a way to stop crimes from
happening based on data. There are benefits and disadvantages that predictive policing contain.
When looking at the issue of predictive policing, many might argue that predictive policing is
beneficial because it can reduce crime rates and prevent deaths from happening through the use of
social media. However, predictive policing has more disadvantages because of being accused
guilty of whom you associate with and the use of inaccurate data leads to unfair policing.
It may be true that previous crimes have been stopped due to predictive policing, and that predictive
policing has prevented

Johnstown Quadrangle Essay
The Johnstown quadrangle is located in southwest central Pennsylvania, lying mostly in Cambria
County but also small parts of Somerset, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties. Most of the
quadrangle includes the valley of Conemaugh River and its tributaries, Little Conemaugh River and
Stony Creek, where they run together in the city of Johnstown and its suburbs. The surface rocks
of the Johnstown quadrangle are of sedimentary origin deposited in or by water and consist of
sandstone, shale, limestone, coal, iron ore, gravel, etc (Phalen 3). Altogether, the deposits have a
total thickness of 3100 to 3200 feet.

The quadrangle is considered to be a part of the Allegheny Plateau, so the rocks in this region are
mostly of Carboniferous age. Carboniferous rocks are subdivided into two series: the
Pennsylvanian and Mississippian. The rocks of both series mainly consist of alternating beds of
shale and sandstone, but Mississippian rocks on southern parts of the plateau include thick
limestones (Phalen 1). Both series are represented in the Johnstown quadrangle. The Pennsylvanian
series, however, covers most of the region, while Mississippian rocks appear only at the surface
along deeply eroded anticlines.
Below these Carboniferous rocks, Devonian rocks are also exposed. These rocks can be found
along the northern edge and southeastern margin of the plateau, where strata is nearly vertical.

KNOW WHAT WE LOVE
First of all, you have to know what you like as perfumes, because there are seven great olfactory
families: floral, citrus, woody, fern, chypre, amber or oriental and leather. Florals represent 80%
of the market, so we will very often move towards the floral, says Clarisse Monereau, expert in
perfumes, which quotes as an example Chanel N o 5 or L air du temps by Nina Ricci. The floral
scent is not too invasive, it will not interfere with colleagues and, above all, it is an excellent choice
timeless.
After the flowers, it is the hesperidia that are the most popular ( CK One Calvin Klein). These are
fragrances that go to everyone, it s fresh, it s like the morning juice. We can wear them... Show

FAITHFUL TO A FRAGRANCE?
Are women in Quebec faithful to their perfume? Historically, there is no perfumer here, so there is
no attachment or identification to a house. Women love novelty, and with the changes of the
season, we often have a fresher summer scent and a stronger winter fragrance, explains Clarisse

  • 2. Gay marriage persuasive essay Gay Marriage in the United States The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal across the United States. Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage, then the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of the United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot, humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and moisture out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep your home cool without using lots of electricity. The Windows 1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from entering through your windows. 2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down rolling shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film. 3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours, especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping solar heat away from the interior rooms cool. 4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner. 5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler ... • 4. Differences Between The Renaissance And Romantic Period... British literature is constantly evolving. This became overwhelmingly apparent in the survey of literature from the varying literary periods analyzed in English III. The reason for such is the ever changing nation in which the authors lived. The stark differences in life during the Renaissance and Romantic Era resulted in authors writing with the intention to convey different themes. Specifically, one key theme of the Renaissance was the role of God in people s lives, which manifests itself in John Donne s sermon Meditation 17 was well as John Miltons poem When I Consider How My Light Is Spent. In the Romantic Era, one theme around which writers tended to focus was the beauty and power of nature. This theme is overwhelmingly clear in William Wordsworth s poem The World Is Too Much with Us and Percy Shelley s poem Ode to the West Wind. A theme nearly omnipresent in the Renaissance was the role of God in people s lives. One major work it appears in is John Milton s When I Consider How My Light Is Spent. In this sonnet, Milton reflects on his blindness and its impact to his standing as a Christian. This is evident when he fondly asks, Doth God exact day labor, light denied? In other words, he is asking God whether he still demands good works that may not be possible to to his disability. The answer to such question is a clear no, as God doth not need... man s work. Moreover, this murmur elaborates its position, that whoever best accepts life s burdens ( His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Wonder Woman Analysis Since their inception, comics have been a way to raise public awareness and introduce readers to current events plaguing the nation, and to represent the struggle of minorities. Often, the characters addressing such issues are superheroes who are both inspirations in their successes and relatable in their struggles. As the first recognized female superhero, Wonder Womanfaces and overcomes challenges as she opens a door for women into the world of comics. William Marston s goal for Wonder Woman was to create an independent heroine with feminist undertones who could succeed on the same level as the popular male heroes of the time. He wanted to set up a standard among children and young people of strong, free, courageous womanhood; and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wonder Woman was a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman, perfect for the face of the fight for women s rights and recognition (187). The strong female superhero became the face of Ms. Magazine, a women s rights publication, with the iconic cover staring the character and proclaiming Wonder Woman for President, (centerfold, last page). She also appears in an underground comic book titled It Ain t Me Babe that was published in July 1970 by the Women s Liberation Basement Press in Berkeley, California, alongside other popular female comic characters who rebel against their reliance on men: Veronica ditches Archie for Betty, Petunia Pig tells Porky to fix his own dinner, and Supergirl tells Superman to get lost (centerfold, It Ain t Me Babe ). Wonder Woman s participation in this feminist rebelling reinforced her role as an icon in the feminist movement. The character has internal references that allude to feminist ideas directly and are integral in her representing the movement. The way she is powerless when bound in chains by a man symbolizes feminist propaganda and protests involving chains restricting women and women breaking free of their bindings. On page 85 of The Secret History of Wonder Woman, the image of Lou Rogers tearing off bonds representing the anti female sentiment in politics is situated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Guy Vanderhaeghe s The Last Crossing Guy Vanderhaeghe s The Last Crossing is a Western of subtly crossed borders. Vanderhaeghe elicits a sense of blurred lines between opposites, giving the illusion that boundaries are not so statically fixed. The historical figure Jerry Potts illustrates that the division between Indigenous and white is not so easily distinguished by ways of appearances, languages, and relations. The lines of health and illness intertwine as the reader follows Addington s syphilis, Custis mystery ailment, and the Indigenous peoplesstruggle with smallpox. Justice, punishment, and the law become subjective in the novel with regards to Madge s death, Addington s military massacre, and Indigenous resistance against unfair treatment. Distinctions between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His abilities with languages lead to his [making] a living as an interpreter and guide (105). In The Last Crossing Potts is used as a guide primarily, but his gift with languages bridges the gap between whites and Indigenous, as he is able to speak English to the Gaunt brothers. Without the understanding of language, the relationship between the Metis man and the English brothers would never have been established. PROOF COMMENT Names create an identity, and Vanderhaeghe uses this convention to further confuse the division between Indigenous and white. Jerry Potts is also referred to as Ky yo kosi and Bear Child throughout the novel, mirroring his own inner conflict of being unsure of what he really is. He wants to be a Blackfoot, a Real Person (Vanderhaeghe 106) but he is most commonly called by his white name, reminding the reader of his positions on both sides. Another instance for confusion is when a Metis brother is referred to with his white and Indigenous name together in a sentence. Unborn Calf...McKay s pony (330). Health and illness do not have concrete characteristics in The Last Crossing. Addington s battle against syphilis, Custis near fatal ailment, and the Indigenouss constant fight with smallpox show that appearances are deceiving. • 7. Finding Forrester Is Not Kept For Long After A black teenage boy living in the Bronx and a best selling novelist living in isolation. Sounds like complete opposites right? Well they actually are quite similar but in fact these two s differences do help them push each other to new understandings and ways of thinking. In the movie Finding Forrester, two unforeseen individuals become companions and form a bond as teacher and student. In the beginning both characters are closed off to the world in some way. This observation describes Jamal looking past Forrester s skin color and the stereotypes that come with it, to find a man who is inspirational and supportive. Just like he did Massie, Jamal could have judged Forrester and ruined this influential relationship in his life. Jamals quick to make assumptions attitude hinders him as it limits his connections with others. Evolving from pompous behavior further represents when Forrester refuses to defend Jamal because he wants to protect himself but after he reads the letter Jamal wrote him, he chooses to sacrifice his privacy to protect his friend. Forrester then comes to the school s writing contest, that Jamal was accused of committing plagiarism for, and reads Jamal s writing and proves that Jamal had not stolen any work. It comes down to a moment of truth for both men: for Jamal, a choice between following his dream or betraying a friend, and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look at the world through new eyes. (Movielocity, 2001, p.3) Forrester, left with a difficult choice, chooses to help his friend. This choice allows him to expose himself to the world once again and then reverse the bitterness he once felt towards the human race. • 8. Conflictism In Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist In Franz Kafka s short story, A Hunger Artist the author introduces the Hunger Artist as the protagonist. The protagonist is a professional faster; he fasts to prove he is the best. The conflict of the story consists of Man versus society, in this case the Hunger Artist serves as Man and his audience serves as society. The conflict starts because the audience does not understand the reason why the Hunger Artists fasts. Eventually the audience loses interest because the Hunger Artist is no longer in fashion. Due to the loss of interest, the Hunger Artist starts to struggle with his pride trying to explain to his audience why he fasts, so he decides to set a fasting record, which eventually leads to his death. Throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two realities, what is and what others think, created a mockery between the circus audience and the Hunger Artist. He wanted his work to be legitimate, but still had to obey his manger and audience s demands. According to Kafka, It was impossible to fight against this lack of understanding, against this world of misunderstanding. This means that the more attention the Hunger Artist received, the more difficult it was for society to understand the meaning behind his actions. Consequently, he would never be able to achieve the goals he hoped for. During his stay at the circus no one believed that the Hunger Artist could fast for a long time. The audience eventually got tired of seeing someone just sit and fast for entertainment. The audience wanted to witness something more exciting, which led to his replacement, a tiger. ...People got used to the strange notion that in these times they would want to pay attention to a hunger artist, and with this habitual awareness the judgment on him was pronounced. He might fast as well as he could and he did but nothing could save him anymore. People went straight past him. (Kafka) Eventually, his art was practically going to waste. It is not that the audience did not like him, his art was amusing, and he was simply becoming a freak show. • 9. The Final Lines From Beowulf s Speech Consider the final lines from Beowulf s speech when he asks Hrothgar for permission to fight Grendel (ll. 440 455). In these final lines Beowulf envisions the scene of Grendel s victory. How does our translation use alliteration, assonance, and compound words to make vivid the nature of Grendel, the devastating effects of that possible victory, and the necessary acceptance of God s will and the working of fate? S2 Answer #1 Beowulf: Our translation almost seems to create key words in the lines that contain alliteration and assonance. Examples such as fight with the fiend (440), frenzy fouling (449), or fear on that flower (444) add a sense of drama and heightened awareness to the lines because of their bold, descriptive ... Consider carefully the cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood. How does the cross s narrative adhere to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism in its depiction of the crucifixion? How does the cross s narrative deviate from Anglo Saxon notions of heroism in its depiction of the crucifixion? In answering this question, please refer to the Anglo Saxon notions of heroism discussed in class. I m not listing particular formal and stylistic devices because those of you with the 8th edition have a different translation than those of you with the 9th edition, but you will need to select key formal and stylistic devices in order to provide evidence for your claims. Answer #2 The Dream of the Rood: The cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood adhered to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism because Jesus is depicted as a triumphant hero that defeats human sin which is startlingly unlike the actual Biblical account. Essentially, poets in the Middle Ages put Jesus into the most popular box of the time, the warrior box, in order to appeal to Pagans. Regardless, Anglo Saxon heroes were aggressive, violent, and hypermasculine so Christ inherently subverts being a perfect Anglo Saxon hero because of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Backup And Recovery Essay [h1] 5 Signs Your Backup and Recovery Solution Needs Help Meta description: Companies need to assess their backup and recovery to ensure it doesn t lack coherence, visibility, sufficient storage, and ability to recover current data. How confident is your business in its backup and recovery solution? Many companies set up their backup and recovery strategy and simply put faith in its ability to work in the event of an outage. Most companies treat backup and recovery like an umbrella. They only think about it when it rains. The 2016 State of Disaster Recovery report found that 40% of companies fail to test their backup and recovery regularly, doing so only once a year. If you haven t tested your backup and recovery in a while, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As data volumes increase, so do the capacity demands placed on your backup and recovery resources. If your business hasn t planned for workload increases, you may not have enough room to store all your backup data. To prepare for future backup capacity needs, your business needs to be able to scale easily. Data management tools also help to lessen the burden of backing up data. Compression and deduplication make backing up and archiving information more efficient. [h2] 4) Dependence on On site Infrastructure The consequences of natural disasters and ransomware attacks are lessons in why backing up on site is unwise. The same gale force winds or flood that takes out your primary storage will disable your on site backup systems. Recent incarnations of ransomware automatically delete backup files. In the current risk landscape, using a colocation site or cloud data center for backup makes more sense. If your primary data center is compromised, your vital data will be safe at a secondary location. [h2] 5) Lack of Access to Current Data Today s companies rely on real time analytics to make the right business decisions. Setting rapid recovery time (RTOs) and point objectives (RPOs) is the key to accessing fresh data after an outage. The faster your business can recover data without losing much information, the better. If your company backs up infrequently, you may not be able to meet recovery point ... • 11. Reflective Essay On Belief In God I think the first clue that I would never be religious was when I started falling asleep during Sunday school. I remember being seven and not understanding how you could pray to some invisible dude in the sky. I was baptized Methodist, but my family stopped attending our church after a change in reverends when I was 8. After that, my flimsy connection to Methodism disappeared entirely. Our family had been pretty lax about religion, saying a brief grace at dinner the only religious act we performed outside of attending church. I ve always viewed religion as having a belief in Godor gods which have influence in the goings on of Earth and everything in it. If I had to label my relation with religion nowadays, agnostic would be the most accurate term. I can t bring myself to deny the existence of deities, as there is so much about the universe that we know nothing about. That s how I deal with the fact that some people are religious we can t prove that there are deities, but we also can t prove that they don t exist. It wouldn t be fair to invalidate someone else s beliefs to justify mine when even my own could be proven wrong. Sauceda Texas A M University San Antonio Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine if a relationship between gender role and self esteem exist in girls who view Disney Princess movies. Twenty one elementary fifth grade girl s ages ten and eleven were questioned on how Disney princess movies influence their perception of gender role and self esteem. The results suggest there is a relationship between the two variables, however it is a weak correlation. It also revealed gender stereotypical behavior roles (e.g. gentle, weak, dependent, beautiful, and perform domestic duties) did not have a statistical significant in young girls self esteem. Keywords: Children; Disney; Gender; Gender role; Self esteem; Television INTRODUCTION Since the mid twentieth century, researchers have studied the amount of television watched by American children. They found children spend more time, almost 5,000 hours, watching television than any other activity except sleep prior to entering into grade school (Liebert, Neale, Davidson, 1973). These results rank television as the main source of entertainment for young children between the ages of three to fives years old. • 15. Analysis Of Covers The Ground By Gary Snyder Title To people foreign to California, the state is boxed into a set of stereotypical characteristics. The Golden State has received labels such as surf nation, and liberal land. But to those who ve gotten a chance to live within this great state appreciate the opportunities and ambitions that come with living in California. Furthermore, what truly differentiates California from any other place in the world is the consistent paradoxical environment. This notion is best epitomized by the city of Sacramento and the cultural, economic and social change that the city has undergone. Gary Snyder communicates this theme through building around John Muir s ideologies in his work of Covers The Ground. Snyder s work exemplifies the contradiction between nature and innovation. It presents the paradoxical state individuals around the world face on whether to accept the innovation and accept the benefits that come with it, or stay true to the roots of nature and the history that accompanies it. This dilemma boils down to whether we as a race embrace the progression of time and the paradoxes that follow, or we find solace in our current state. The inception of Covers The Ground, begins with establishing the setting of the city of Sacramento. Understanding the natural beauty of the city is best conveyed by establish vivid imagery and Snyder accomplishes this by describing the blossoming almond orchard acres. • 32. Death Penalty Sociology When discussing the death penalty, rarely do we acknowledge the impact executions have on the men and women who facilitate the process. Although this process is solely voluntary, the side effects are not. According to several executioners, the first experience is far from what they had anticipated. To bring to light the stories of these men and women, Jim Willet facilitates an audio recording which covers the process of executing an inmate and the aftermath which is often felt by the executioner. After the Governor and Attorney General provide the okay, the inmate is escorted to the death chamber where they are strapped to the gurney in roughly 30 seconds. Often the inmate will thank the tie down team, which has been said to leave the executioner with a weird feeling. Some inmates are calm, while others cry or appear to be physically anxious. • 33. Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the ... By comparing the two systems one could argue that the Canadian Parliamentary system is a more effective and democratic system. This paper will compare the functioning systems of both Parliamentary and presidential systems, the differences between responsible government and separation of powers, and finally the effectiveness of party discipline. • 35. The Effects Of Sharks On The World s Ocean Without Those... Sympathy for JAWS Sharks are known as one of the deadliest creatures in the aquatic ecosystem, but what would happen in the world s ocean without those sharks? The depopulation of sharks is increasing dramatically due to human impacts. If this continues, it will negatively impact all aspects of ocean life and environment (Ferretti et al, 2010). The depopulation of a creature so high on the aquatic food chain can lead to the overpopulation of other organisms, which causes a domino effect on all creatures in the ocean. This could either rapidly increase or decrease their population, altering the food chain altogether (Ferretti et al, 2010). Focusing on how the population decreases is the only way to prevent it. Elaborating on the over fishing of such important creatures, as well as the negative effects that go along with depopulation, is the most proficient way to relay the message of these processes being such an issue. It is remarkable how important one sea creature can be to the entirety of the oceanic food chain as well as to the aquatic ecosystem as a whole. When some people think of, they think of JAWS, not many people take into consideration how important large sharks roles are in the ocean. For example, focusing on the biology of sharks helps to further inform people about the basic background and information of what some may perceive to be as monsters. Twain, an American writer, is one of the major authors of American fiction. Also, he is considered the greatest humorist in American literature (Alan Gribben, np). Mark Twain was influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of much of it in his writing. Growing up in the 1870s, Twain s society was much different than growing up now. He grew up during the outbreak of the civil war and he lived during the time of major cynical political corruption that began in the late 1860s all the way to 1900. He was also raised during a time where slave holding was acceptable, and encouraged. Under his father s influence, he was told that slavery was justified through biblical principles. The majority of people in Hannibal, where Twain grew up, thought this and was the reason why everyone was proslavery. The local pulpit taught us that God approved it, that it was a holy thing and that the doubter need only look in the Bible if he wished to settle his mind and then the texts were read aloud to us to make the matter sure; if the slaves themselves had an aversion to slavery, they were wise and said nothing...
