Legends Of Tomorrow Research Papers
If you haven t tuned in to DC s Legends of Tomorrow just yet, you ll be in for a surprise:
Firestorm is back in the form of Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax Jackson, who is played by
Attack the Block star Franz Drameh. The British actor is officially taking over half of Firestorm
after the death of Ronnie Raymond (Rob Amell), and he has just admitted that he initially
geeked out when he found out which character he was auditioning for! Drameh recently spoke to
Comic Book Resources about Legends of Tomorrow, where he admitted his love for comic books
and the secret name for the character he was reading for. I ve been a comic book fan my whole life,
so when I was auditioning, the character breakdown they gave me was Mystery Hero Michael.
So I was like, okay, Drameh shared, adding that the truth about the character dawned upon him
while reading the lines. So I had a bit of a read of it, and I was like: Stein this is Firestorm! But
there s already a Firestorm! How is this going to work? So I kind knew early on that s who I was
playing, he said.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drameh also admitted that the discovery made him wonder what could happen in the show. I
was just so excited, he said. I was like, Are they going to do this? Is he going to have
transmutation powers? Are we going to see Fury? I was like I was so excited, and so, so happy
to be a part of the whole DC Universe. DC s Legends of Tomorrow also stars Brandon Routh,
Caity Lotz, Arthur Darvill, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Ciara Renee, Falk Hentschel and
Casper Crump as the evil Vandal Savage. The show is currently airing on The CW every Thursday
nights, and already has one major

Comparing and Contrasting Ancient Greek Drinking Vessels...
There are a handful of differences and similarities from an Ancient Greek drinking vessel and a
Starbucks cup some people may not take into consideration. While comparing and contrasting a
Starbucks coffee cup and Ancient Greek drinking vessels I will take careful notation into the
differences and similarities of their form, function and decoration of the artifacts. I will go into
careful detail of what the ancient Greeks used to create their drinking vessels. Also, I will elaborate
the functions that the Ancient Greeks first had in mind and what uses they had during the different
time periods. Another important aspect of the ancient Greek drinking vessels and Starbucks cupare
the decorations and logos. This plays an important role in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is usually referred as a red figure style vase. This type of style vase painting started in
Athens, Greece. The red figure technique is essentially an inversion of the black figure
technique, for now the figures are left the color of the clay and the background is painted black.
Details within the contours of the figures are painted with a brush and are consequently more
fluid than when incised in the black figure technique. These paintings upon the vessels usually
depict some sort of scene from mythological life. Most of these Greek vessels served as more
than drinking vessels but as prizes, ways to illustrate stories and items used to place in tombs.
Today, people may use Starbucks cups, as a to go cup, conveniently for our society s busy lives.
The Starbucks cup is shaped like an open cylindrical container with a flat bottom and without
handles. Starbucks provides lids for the paper and plastic cups with a hole in it for either
sipping or to insert a straw for drinking. However, because they are made from paper and plastic
they are easier to dispose of after use. The Starbucks cup is made up of mostly paper and it also
contains a petro chemical based polyethylene plastic, which makes it impossible to recycle.
Starbucks has an optional sleeve for the cups to protect your hands from burning from the hot
temperatures of the beverages. The sleeves are made out

Lumumba Case Study
After traveling, exploring his country and learning different languages, Lumumba became a
postal service clerk during the mid 1940s in what is now Kinshasa. Later, he worked as an
accountant. During his time as a postal clerk, Lumumba rapidly became a community leader and
organized a postal workers labor union. His actions were encouraged by local members of the
Belgian Liberal political party, and soon they encouraged more people to join the union. In 1955
Lumumba became regional president of a purely Congolese trade union of government employees
that was not affiliated to either of the two Belgian trade union federations (socialist and Roman
Catholic). He also became active in the Belgian Liberal Party in the Congo. Although conservative

Lady With An Erine Analysis
Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s innovative detail to
composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence of a new style of portraiture.
In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp demonstrates his
knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and historical input. Shell and Sironi
presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the
identification of the painting. The authors of the article study physical and historical features of the
painting to create meaning. Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history,
the meaning of the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and
aristocratic value.
The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young lady known as
Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to the side and the line of her
eyes follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The positioning of her head and eyes create a
mysterious atmosphere around her. She seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from
the beholder. Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the
opposite direction. The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the beholder but her
her gaze indicates no interest. The distance between the beholder and her indicates that one can
only admire her from afar. The ermine sits gracefully in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts
away. The ermine tilts its head to his right, opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads
reflects the dynamics and movement of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but
rather lively.
Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the portrait look
realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia s skin against the dark
background. The light brightens the entire left side of Cecilia and the ermine, meanwhile creating
shadows on the right side of her body. The shadows, however, are soft like reflected light. The
reflected light has intensity on the bright parts of her body

Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman
Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s
Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The reason for this
complementarity is that Ban Zhao s writings are intentionally constructed to mirror the teachings of
the Analects with a focus on the roles of women in society rather than those of men. She very
specifically focuses on relationships between men and women, thus between the two texts a well
rounded picture of the proper marriage relationship in ancient Chinese culture can be formed. The
Analects are sayings and discussions attributed to Confucius himself (551 479 B.C.), but compiled
by his followers (Confucius, Analects, 1). Technically written as instructions... Show more content

In the Analects, the virtue of humanity centers around reverence, generosity, diligence, honesty, and
kindness towards others. In seeking to attain each of these virtues, the goal is to become a true
junzi, a gentleman (Confucius, Analects, 2). Men are thoroughly instructed upon how to deal with
other people. They are treat everyone with kindness and righteousness (Confucius, Analects, 1).
Reverence is to be shown to superiors, and harmony maintained with those not on his level . The
dignity of a gentleman s actions are what gain him respect (Confucius, Analects, 1 2). He is to

Comparing Practices Of Looking And The Innocent Eye Test
The division between realism and abstraction is not as clear as we might first believe. Within The
Practices of Looking, Sturken and Cartwright examine the relationship between perspective and
realism. In addition to explaining how perspective is important in replicating reality within art
and video games. The example given to illustrate this perspective in Practices of Looking is a
painting from Mark Tansey, called The Innocent Eye Test. The painting is a critique of the form of
realism and depicts a cow stood in front of men in lab coats, staring at an artists realist painting of a
cow. Tansey does this to show that the narratives never actually occurred. Realism within art
ultimately provides a difficult question to the audience, what

Green Sea Turtle Research Paper
A sea turtle is a large marine reptile with a bony or leathery shell and flippers, coming ashore
annually on sandy beaches to lay eggs. They are very ancient animals. The seven sea turtles you
find today have been around 110 years. The types of sea turtles are Green sea turtle, Leatherback
sea turtle, Loggerhead sea turtle, Hawksbill sea turtle, Kemp Ridley sea turtle, and Olive Ridley
sea turtle. The scientific superfamily classification for sea turtles is Chelonioidea. The scientific
name for the Green sea turtle is Chelonia mydas. The scientific name for the Leatherback sea turtle

They mate at sea then they return to land at night. The mother uses her hand flippers to dig a
circular hole 40 to 50 centimeters deep. When the nest is dug, she starts filling it with soft
shelled eggs until she has placed around 50 to 350 eggs. Some only lay 250 eggs depending on
the species. After she fills the hole with eggs she fills it with sand and makes sure it has a
smooth surface. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It
takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while
the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands
make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is
warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes
about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the
egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. All but one of the
sea turtles will hatch at night which is the Kemp sea turtle. It happens because they are most
endangered. Sea turtles that hatch during the day are more likely to be seen by predators. When
they reach the surface of the nest they go straight to the sea. The smaller the hatchling is the less
likely it will survive. This happens because smaller sea turtles are slower than bigger sea turtles (

The Main Assumptions Of Family Social Exchange Theory
Family Social Exchange theory is the idea that social change and stability represent a process of
cost and benefit between the two parties or individuals: how much effort is put into the relationship
versus how much effort our companion is contributing. This theory proposes that in order to
understand one another and the choices made by them, we must understand what that individuals
finds to be motivating or rewarding.
Main Assumptions As there are many assumptions on social exchange, one of the assumptions to
know is that people are motivated by self interest. Meaning that we seek things or relationships
that are beneficial to ourselves. Like weighing the cost and rewards of a relationship or product
that is bought for a purpose. Thus, we, as human being finds more pleasurable to engage in a
relationship or interactions that will be more beneficial and rewarding, while avoiding the least
cost or punishment. When people choose to help others, they do so because of personal gain
they expect to obtain from doing so. An example could be that someone might feel that their job
takes advantage of them and therefore, that person decides to quit the job and look for another
job if they think that they could get a better job for the same about of effort. An example of this
explanations is that my co worker, who worked with me at Taco Bell decides to quit her job at
Taco Bell because she felt that there was just too much work and the customers are mean. Instead
she found another job

The Alien Formation of Crop Circles Essay example
Since the 1600 s, crop circles have fascinated millions. Originally from the town of Hertfordshire,
UK, the first circle was claimed to be by the Mowing Devil , as found in an English newspaper
dated back to 1678. (Gail) The image in the center of the paper depicts a small, devilish creature
with a scythe, mowing two rectangular, offset circles. Modern circles form themselves in
anything that will take imprint, typically in fields of oats, barley, or corn. (Pringle 5) Since the
1600 s forward, crop circles have dramatically become more complex. Many people believe that
they are works of art, while some believe they are an act of vandalism. But who, or what, are

(Stewart 52 53) These triple with another abnormality, found in most genuine circles: small,
magnetized iron spheres. Some set in the soil, and some inside of the plant tissue itself. These
were first discovered in 1993 Cherhill, England, in which many of the plants of the formation were
coated with an iron glaze. (Talbott) Photomicrographs provided by the BLT Research Team closely
show such evidence of these iron spheres. Using these abnormalities, Nancy Talbott of The BLT
Research Team conducted a study with M.I.T. Undergraduates assigning them to create a crop circle
hoax that fit all three parameters. Although the resulting crop circle did not consist of any of the
abnormalities Talbott stated, the students did manage to accomplish a surprisingly geometrically
accurate formation modeled after the school s auditorium, Kresge Auditorium. (Talbott) Vandals
create hoaxes, but who creates the real ones? Some believe that the source of crop circles may be
from a species indigenous to earth, such as gnomes, trolls, or fairies, though absolutely no
evidence supports this. In a personal interview with Maja Z. of Croatia, Maja stated that she
believes crop formations are created by these beings, namely the gnomes and fairies, that she calls
elders . I think it s like fairytale, she says. She believes they are sending messages

The Buddha And Its Effect On Life
Dukkha is a Pali word, which in basic or ordinary terms may be translated to meaning suffering,
dissatisfaction, pain, sorrow or misery. However, as the first of the four noble truths, which
symbolizes the Buddha s take on life, it has additional deeper, philosophical meanings such as:
imperfection, impermanence, emptiness, and insubstantiality (What the Buddha taught, 17).
Since Buddhism represents a more realistic and objective take on life, the term suffering, does not
necessarily indicate a pessimistic or depressing view of life. Rather, the Buddha is teaching that in
life, at one point or the other, we are bound to experience suffering or dissatisfaction, whether we
choose to acknowledge it or not. The Buddha does not deny that ... Show more content on

This thirst is surrounded with passionate greed (nandiragasahagata), which comes in three forms:
namely: thirst for sense pleasures (kama tanha), which is a craving for things or objects that
provide us with pleasant feelings, thirst for existence and becoming (bhaa tanha), which is a
craving to be someone or something with a purpose or meaning that actually has an impact on
others, a craving to achieve ones goals, and lastly, thirst for non existence (self annihilation,
vibhavatanha), which is a craving to be detached or separated from things that cause pain or
suffering (What the Buddha taught, 29).
The origin of Dukkha also comprises of other forms of cravings. This thirst is not only limited to
desiring or attaching ourselves to worldly things such as riches and fame but also desiring and
attaching ourselves to notions, philosophies, views, sentiments, concepts, and beliefs (dhamma
tanha) (What the Buddha taught, 29).
According to the Buddha, all the bad and unjust issues going on in the world at large, ranging
from family matters to huge wars, which destroy countries, is as a result of greed and selfish
thirst. This claim is very true especially in our world today. For example, the Second World War
began because of Adolf Hitler s greed. Also, we see many families, especially in the western parts
of Africa divided as a result of land issues. Each family member wants the bigger portion

Comparing Marcus Aurelius And Benjamin Franklin
Marcus Aurelius and Benjamin Franklin are two men who during their time were dedicated to
improving themselves. Though these two men lived in different time periods it can be seen that
both men endeavored to cultivate virtues within themselves. The pair share many virtues, while
still having personal reasons for desiring to alter their habits and different methods for executing
these virtues. Overall, both Aurelius and Franklin knew that they were not perfect and could never
achieve perfection. However, they both offer a set of virtues that they lived by to try and better
themselves in order to live happier lives and what sets them apart is the way they implemented
their virtues. Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 and is commonly... Show

influenced by stoic philosophers, Aurelius believed this philosophy would bring him to harmony
with nature. Furthermore, he held himself to a standard he could never reach which made him

what kind of person one would become. In book one he lists qualities he admires from people in
his life, this is his way of reminding himself that there are still good people in the world and it
shows his gratitude towards them. Aurelius then goes on to describe nature, destiny and living life

Contribution Of Entrepreneurs And New Zealand Business...
Introduction
The Investopedia defines the entrepreneur as a person who starts his own business by taking lot of
risks. (Entrepreneur, 2014). Most of the large organisations around the world have been started by
entrepreneurs. The contribution of entrepreneurs to a country s business environment holds a high
value. EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award s Director, Jon Hooper stated that Successful
entrepreneurs have an extraordinary passion, self belief and that keeps them going when others
might give up. Because of this, they are able to make a significant contribution to New Zealand s
economy and to the community by creating jobs, driving productivity, fuelling growth and inspiring
others (EY, 2014). Entrepreneurs are contributing in various ways to the businessenvironment and
some of them will be by providing employment, growing economy, innovating new technologies,
creating market competitiveness and also by providing contributions to the society. Therefore, this
essay is a critical evaluation of the contribution of entrepreneurs to the New Zealand business
environment.
Contribution to the New Zealand Employment
According to the New Zealand treasury, nearly one out of 7 adults is an entrepreneur in New

Finding The Steady State Temperature Distribution Of A Beam
Introduction
The aim of the project is to find the steady state temperature distribution in a beam. Since it s
impossible to solve the model analytically due to the irregular geometry of the cross section, the
temperature distribution will be found using ANSYS Mechanical to model the problem and solve
using the finite element method.
The report will go through creating the beam using some pre set values and calculating the rest
using a student s ID number and applying specific boundary conditions.
The temperature distribution will be investigated by changing the boundary conditions of the front
surface and inside of the pipe to being fully insulated and later, the heat transfer coefficient will be
changed from 60 to 10W/m2 with the results being recorded between changes. The differences
between each changes on the model will be discussed in the results/discussion section. Model

Is Deviance And The Deviant Label That Is Put Upon Female...
Topic The topic that I have chosen for my research paper is deviance. More specifically the
deviant label that is put upon female athletes. Given that they are scrutinized for becoming their
own people and dismissing the traditional ways a female should behave, I would like to look at not
only how these athletes are treated, but how they respond to it. Also focusing on if this process has
changed over time.
Thesis Throughout the course of history, the consensus regarding traditional gender norms has
changed immensely. Just the thought of going against these morals was unthinkable and shamed.
However, as times have come to change, the challenging of these norms has become more accepted
along with the notion that there are no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I cannot exactly say what because I did not live there, but there is always that thought. It always

they influence how we define deviance. So yes and always.
Q2. If so, will these previously thought of deviant behaviors always have that label, even if it is
more accepted in today s society? Will they forever be known as deviant?
A2. No, that s not always the case. Certain labels can change. Even so far we ve seen cases
where one was deviant and we see radical change over time, there is nothing in a way that keeps it
deviant. However some things are harder to change over time.
Q3. Why, in today s age does more media coverage play a role? (it being easier to access, faster to

A3. Cleary media plays some role and accessing information plays a role. Social reactions always
plays a role, historically information would get passed and people would get stigmatized and

hear about all of this crazy stuff on how Russia closed fake information supporting Trump. They

they use their abilities such as speed to get away from the predator that is chasing them like the

A Tale Of Commodities And Relevance
A Tale of Commodities and Relevance In Margaret Atwood s book, The Handmaid s Tale, the
women in the book often find themselves at the mercy of men and being used for the purpose of
fulfilling man s needs. They are more seen as property, than as humans themselves. The women
are systemically ranked for amount of use in the household and women who can give birth are
often high ranked, but not given much freedom. Over they do everything and are allowed
nothing. The woman are not allowed to read, have their own money, or to normal jobs outside
of being maids or cooks. The woman are often ranked in terms of colors with wives wearing
blue, handmaids wear red, Maratha s wearing green and Ecowives wearing stripes. The women
are often seen as commodities and only relevant to the needs of man. The Ceremony is the act in

Reflection Paper In Counselling
Reflection Paper Throughout the 5 days practice of active listening and basic attending skills in
daily conversations, I found it easiest to. On the contrary, the most difficult experience was
practicing empathy which is one of the most essential skills in building rapport and trust with
others. Despite having the ability to show empathic rapport, in which I am able to accurately sense
and understand others feelings by perceiving the situation through their eyes and perspectives, I
struggled in the other component of empathy, which is communicative attunement. I had
difficulties verbally responding to the information about their concerns and feelings. For instance, I
had difficulty reflecting their emotions with appropriate terms. This could be due to my
upbringing where my family rarely express our emotions in conversations; we are more inclined to
express it through actions. Hence, I have difficulties coming up with words to accurately capture
the feelings and then verbally expressing it as a reflection of the... Show more content on

Summary Of The Episode Remains To Be Seen
Goffman (1963) refers to stigma as being a disorder that an individual carries, it is a mark of
shame in which something unusual or bad about the person is exposed. When people express an
impression to the manner they want to present their self, they play a virtual identity to avoid
exposing their actual identity because it might be stigmatized. Goffman (1963) also mentions
when people are stigmatized they worry about how others see them, which is the similar to how
we feel when performing a certain role to keep what we consider normal people from finding out
the truth about our shame a characteristic of what we think is abnormal/weird to other people.
Glacalone Rosenfeld (1989) compare social situations to interviews, an approach where an
individual selects the perception and behavior to reflect their good qualities to the person they
are performing for. Despite trying to give a reasonable impersonation of one self, people run the
risk of being discreditable, which is a stigma that is not readily perceivable to others. Allan
(2014) also discusses that some people are already discredited, when normal people are readily
aware about a person s stigma as they try to pretend that they do not notice, or the person who is
already stigmatized plays it off to show or perceive their shame... Show more content on

information if discoverable in the public record. Matos v. Crimmins, 40 A.D.3d 1053 (N.Y. App.

The Disadvantages Of Homeschooling
Homeschooling is when the parent makes the decision to educate their child at home. This form of
homeschooling has increased over the past few years, but it is not new. According to Robert
Houston Jr and Eugenia Toma(2003), homeschooling has been around since the 17th and 18th
centuries. Homeschooling during those centuries were typically done by wealthy or family that
could afford the price of private tutors. There is a difference between homeschoolingthen and now.
In one of tge supplementary reading this week it state and our country s early history, home

homeschooling because it fits their family better than other alternatives.
There are a couple of disadvantages for the children being homeschooled. A child that has always
been homeschool might feel lonely. For the students that attended school before and started
homeschooling after attending school might miss their friends and that environment. Richard
Medlin (2000) add students that were in public school that were transitioned to homeschooling how
they felt about the transition. Many of the students that he acts said they miss their friends, so left
out of normal school activities(dances/sports), and felt they might lose touch with scenes normal
kids were interested in. There are also several advantages that parents believe

To identify a useful set of Air Traffic Controlcomplexity factors a research has been conducted

Why Should We Assess Children Essay
Why do we assess children? Upon looking for the meaning of Assessments on the NAEYC website,
I came across several different reasons to way it is important. Assessment is defined as the
measurement of what students are learning. Student achievement is defined as how well they ve
mastered certain target skills. Assessments provide educators with both objective and subjective
data in order to ascertain student progress and skill mastery. No matter what we are doing in the
classroom with our students around we are doing some type of assessment. Now NAEYC says.
Assessments help teachers plan appropriately challenging curriculum and tailor instruction that
responds to each child s strengths and needs. Assessments can also help teachers identify children
with disabilities and ensuring that they receive needed services. And also, Assessment methods are
appropriate for each child s age and level of development and encompass all areas of development,
including math, science, and other cognitive skills; language; social emotional; and physical.

Informal assessment has to do with the way that they play, the language that is being used, and
how they react to the environment that is around them. While doing this you are taking notes,
i.e. writing in down on a sticky tab, taking pictures and videos of how engaging the activity is for
the child or if they are some things that need o be changed. Formal assessment has to deal with
pulling the child out of their natural environment and asking the child questions that he or she
should be able to answer. It is a one on one assessment for them to take that is base on a grading
scale of some sort. For example, at the beginning of the year VPK must take a test to show the
teacher at what level they are on. That is not being done with they are playing nor is it done around

Billy Gibbons Research Paper
Legendary Beard Fact: In 1984 Gillette offered Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top bandmate Dusty Hill
$1,000,000 to shave their beards in a commercial. He turned them down cold, and wouldn t do it
today for even twice the price. The reason? He dreads the thought of seeing his naked face in a
mirror! He said he was afraid he looked to much like Vincent Price.
Billy Gibbons is perhaps as famous for his chest length beard as he is for his music. As the founding
member of iconic Texas blues rock band ZZ Top, Billy, along with bandmate Dusty Hill have two
of the most famous beards in rock and roll. The third member of the group, ironically, named Frank
Beard, is the only member sporting a naked chin.
Billy started life as William Frederick Gibbons in Houston, TX, in 1949, son of Lorraine and
Frederick Royal Gibbons. He was born into a musical family, as his father was an orchestra leader
and concert pianist. Frederick worked, along with his cousin, legendary set decorator Cedric
Gibbons, for Sam Goldwyn at MGM Studios in Hollywood. The first instrument to pique young
Billy s interest was the drum, and his father sent him off to New York City to study with Tito
Puente, the King of Latin Music. Around his thirteenth birthday, Billy was gifted with his first

Roman Funeral Eulogy
The upper class
The class in society a Roman held, played a huge role in how elaborate the funeral ceremony was,
and how well the body was preserved.
The wealthy would be guarentted an elaborate ceremony. The body of the deceased would be on
display for mourning for a lengthy period of time, and treated with extreme care, as explained
earlier. The body would never be left alone as it was belived this would be bad luck for the
deceaseds afterlife. After the mourning period, the funeral wpuld take place. It is a common
misperception that the funeral was a big parade, when in reality it was a quiet affair, and the
funeral procession was more of a celebration.
A Eulogy was usually only read for the very wealthy, differing from how funerals are conducted
today. However these were usually resrved only for the families with links to power. An example
of how a eulogy would go, is seen in Julius Caesars eulogy to his Aunt Julia, known as laudatio

God gave men the free will to elect their own salvation. There is no sin until it is actually
committed. Sin was now considered a voluntary act. It also consists of a change of heart, which
revived the concept of limited atonement. Christ did not die for only a select few predestined
elect, but for whosoever will accept God s offer of salvation. Personal commitment also involved
an active and useful Christian life in which individual action brings the kingdom closer. Revivals
were made possible by itinerant preachers. One of the most famous itinerant preachers was

Ergot Is The Main Cause Of The Salem Witch Trials
The poisonous fungus Ergot is the main cause of the Salem Witch Trials because in the 1500s,
Rye bread was found to be a main staple of people s diets, and the the spread of this fungus through

The first reason why Ergot is the main cause of the Salem Witch Trials is that the symptoms of

When comparing country musician Jimmi Rogers song to blues musician Bill Broonzy s song,
Broonzy s Starvation Blues is a more accurate representation of Richard Wright s memoir Black
Boy in many different ways. The first point of comparison is the intended audience and purpose.
The New South was a time of change for everyone: mainly pertaining to the Jim Crow laws
previously explained. While these laws were supposed to create separate yet equal conditions,
they unfortunately condemned African Americans to inferior facilities and heinous treatment.
The newly freed people of the South found themselves unemployed, drowning in poverty, unable
to pay rent, and unable to keep food on the table for their families. This was not what the African
Americans had in mind when they were told that they would be held separate yet equal in
society, and many of them wanted to voice their opinions about the false hope of equality
instilled in their minds. They wanted to share the degrading situations they faced every day. They
wanted all of America to hear of the struggles they were still antagonized by even though they
were supposed to be free and equal. Richard Wright s Black Boy and Bill Broonzy s Starvation
Blues both achieved this desire to be heard. Through written accounts and musical lyrics, Wright
and Broonzy shared their disheartening experiences to America showing everyone the reality of
separate but equal . The second point of comparison is

Essay On Persian Wars
Keri Ann Hutcherson
Western Civilization
Sept 12 2016
The Persian Wars, involving Persia and Greece, occurred in 480 and 490 BCE. Persia invaded
Greece as she tried to expand her land into their territory. King Darius had already led Persia to
gradually expand into Europe with Iona, Macedonia, and Thrace in her possession. The next place
on King Darius list was Athens and the remainder of Greece. King Darius, with his manners, sent
emissaries to demand the Greeks yielding to his rule. The Greeks, who refused to give up their
territory, killed these emissaries; which sent a strong message to King Darius. Sparta and Athens
united to protect Greece from Persian attack. Although Greece took a firm stand, King Darius
was not giving in. Persia s response was to take Greece by force. After Persia failed to take Greece,
ten years passed by before Persia started things back up again. In 480 BCE, King Xerxes attempted

The architect and Mr. Sellar applied for planning permission. Southwark Council was an important
supporter of the skyscraper, which had been administered planning permission at the end of
March 2002. Nevertheless, the works for the Shard almost ceased because of the fall of the Twin
World Trade Towers, in New York. According to Mr. Sellar the Shard will have refuges built into
its core . Furthermore, when plans for the Shard of Glass were first considered, environmentalists
labeled the Shard as a spike through the heart of the heritage of London.
Oppositions arose after the plans for the Shard passed through the Council and conservation groups
expressed their concerns about the changing skyline of London and that the skyscraper would
shadow over the Cathedral of St. Paul, the Tower of London. Renzo Piano stated that St. Paul
Cathedral is an extraordinary monument and an intrinsic part of London s heritage. I believe that
the new tower will not disturb its stateliness. They are breathing the same air, sharing the same
atmosphere; they are nurtured at the same source. . It should be mentioned that St Paul s Cathedral,
which for hundreds of year was the tallest structure, and even today is protected by laws which
protect the sight lines to the cathedral, is a monument to the glory of God, symbol of hope, strength
and resilience of the city of London.
In the light of the above, in July 2002, the then Deputy Prime Minister John Leslie

Life Is Worth Living Essay
Would You Plug In?
What kind of life is worth living? Robert Nozick poses the question of whether it is worth to live
life the way it was planned for you or by having the power to pick and choose the experiences
you go through by plugging into the experience machine. Before deciding to go into the
machine, a person must think about what kind of life is worth living. A life worth living is a life
with as little suffering and hardship as possible, where a person can be completely free to chase
their dreams. So many people look for a way to escape the pain that life brings and the experience
machine offers a way out. There are two main reasons to plug into the experience machine; a
person can escape the hardships of life and society s unrealistic expectations about how to live life.
Humans go through many hardships over their lifetime. They experience love, loss, heartbreak,
pain, work, happiness, sadness, and many more things. People have to struggle through school to
work their whole lives until they die. These aspects of human life are used to mark where in the
stages of life a person is. To many, these stages define life and what it stands for, but they are not
necessary. A person doesn t have to go through loss to have a complete life. They don t have to
struggle to make ends meet because that s what life is supposed to be like. they can sidetrack
these moments if desired. A person can have a life filled with happiness and no worry of having
to get somewhere in life by plugging into the experience machine. The experience machine has
the capability of getting rid of the hard things we go through. Instead of going through
heartbreak, a person can bypass that by programming the machine to only let them experience
love. Instead of working a grueling job that only pays minimum wage, a person can plug into the
experience machine to a life where they don t have to work to survive. They can live a life full
of happiness, instead of one filled with sadness and hardships. Society places unrealistic
expectations of human life. People are expected to live their life a certain way and when they fall
short of that, they are judged. One problem is that many never get close to the expectations,

Retention Essay
Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced
positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be
distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted
study duration would map into superior retention and learningoutcomes. The present paper critically
addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while
shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional
explanatory variables.

In other words, achieving a perfect score might either not be an option from the outset or would
alternatively take prohibitively long in terms of fixed duration (which exogenous time constraint
can still be varied at a higher level of analysis as warranted) or observation horizon (which is also
assumed away as if it were fixed and nearly instantaneous).
For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study
setups at a stretch could have some equivalents that are difficult to distinguish between while
possibly concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naГЇve
analysis.
In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly
homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some
crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in
enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. In other
words, this may cultivate a more holistic perception of the otherwise unfamiliar content (which
domain need not be treated in gestalt or similar terms), with overlaps as well as dissimilarities
being inferred and likely discerned or retrieved over the long haul. This mode of overlearning

Compare And Contrast Apple Is A Successful And A Less...
This report aimed to make comparison between a successful and a less successful brand
portfolio. I have chosen Apple as a successful brand and Nokia as a less successful brand. Apple
is a renowned brand name all over the world, and the products of Apple are so popular among the
electronics lovers. Consumers recognize the Apple brandas a symbol of trust as well as reliability.
Apple is a U.S based company, and now by revenue it is the largest information technology
company in the world which is approximately 233 billion. In 1976, the company was established
by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. On the other hand, the brand name of Nokia has
lost its credibility recently. Nokia is a Finnish multinational information technology company.
About ten years ago, the products of Nokia were so popular in Europe, Africa, and Asia. However,
in recent times Nokia has lost its market share significantly. People have less faith... Show more

of Apple branding. Through breakthrough products as well as skillful marketing, Apple has been

The American Dream in The Lost Beautifulness and The...
The American Dream in The Lost Beautifulness and The Gilded Six Bits The America Dream is
defined in general as a dream of a land that is better richer for everyone based on accomplishment
and opportunity. This dream is usually sought after by people who have been deprived of their
social and human values. People who have not been able to achieve this dream based on
restrictions of their situations that plague their lives. These situations can be different for
everyone, race, sex, handicap, etc. My question is this goal obtainable? To me there is one thing
that powers this dream a desire to be of higher class, socially and financially. The one thing that

This drive for her to feel like an American was drove from money. This ultimately put her on the
street after her landlord saw the good work that she did. Money the landlord knew he could
charge extra because the apartment was now in much better shape. In The Gilded Six Bits Joe,
sees himself in a similar situation which involved money. Joe had met a man by the name of
Otis D. Slemmons who had opened up an ice cream parlor down the street. Joe was quite
impressed of the heavy set man with hit gold teeth. Joe was talking about the man s big gut in
quote: All rich mens is got some belly on em. (Hurston 1521). Joe wanted the dream so bad that
he even wanted a gut because all rich men had them. This shows how money influences people
to do whatever they can to make themselves higher in society. The American dream is all about
money, money is opportunity and money is accomplishment. Joe was also later devastated by
this monster of a dream, when he caught Otis in bed with his wife. Is this what the dream is
about tearing down everything you worked hard for all your life? Did Hanneh really dream of
being thrown into the street? Did Joe really dream of a big fat rich man sleeping with his wife? In
the end the power that both drove these people to realize what the American dream is was money.
They both wanted money and they both dreamed of money, and in the end it got the best of Hanneh

It s Time To Stop Animal Testing And Killing Animals
Stop all testing and breeding of any animals of all kinds. Animal testing is not beneficial because
they cause animals pain. They breed animals for testing and for research for checking if an
experiment goes right. Most animals are killed during the testings. We shouldn t have testing
because of that. Giving animals pain isn t right. Scientists use needles and don t relieve the pain
they caused the animal. Animals that are given little to none to relieve the pain many animals may
still might experience the pain. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate the
developments of new medications to be used on animals that might be later used to help humans.
People breed animals for testing and that s not right. Scientists purchase the animals from breeders
to be used in research. Primates, dogs, cats, are less than 1% of the animals used in testings. Also,

The Good Soldier Analysis
Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Maddox Ford, narration serves as an imperative
framing mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation
necessary for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the
narrator John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing
the notion of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that
characterize his story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative
, but he also prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking
the former to rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing
several factors that distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion
in and knowledge of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective
standpoint, and his tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this
story, Ford employs narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story.
Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent,
adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American
who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims
that the adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom,
till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever,
proceeding to concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (13). That Ford notes
this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a
relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly identifying
cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even
traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their
cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies and Leonora s

James Monroe Research Paper
James Monroe was born in the quiet town of Westmoreland County, Virginia on April 28, 1758.
His father, Spencer Monroe, was married to Elizabeth Jones in 1752. Spencer Monroe was a
circuit judge and a farmer for the town (Kane 40). Monroe was the oldest of five. There were four
other children; Andrew, Joseph, and Elizabeth. His third brother had died in his early childhood. He
attended grammar school at a small academy for boys. This school had a reputation for serving the
best of men, like George Washington and John Marshall (Kane 40), which is unique because he
later followed George Washington as president. George Washington was a family friend of the
Monroes. He admired Washington and was influenced by him at a young age. At age 16... Show

He wanted to buy land in Kentucky and open a law office in Richmond with the money he was
saving. His first aspiration was not practicing law, but going to Europe and traveling the
different countries. Monroe was unsure of himself and needed advice. He turned to Jefferson,
but Jefferson had other plans for Monroe. He wanted Monroe to run for Virginia State
Legislature. Monroe accepted and was elected into the House of Delegates in April 1782
(Stefoff 23). After much preparation, Monroe became a member of the Congress of
Confederation. This event influenced him greatly. During 1786 Monroe found time to marry
the love of his life. Her name was Elizabeth Kortright Monroe. Elizabeth was 17 and James was
27 years old when they were married. They had two daughters and one son (Kane 40). After the
marriage and the children, Monroe quickly got back to his political views and doings. He was
bored of his law practice and wanted a challenge. James served on the 170 member Virginia
Ratifying Convention that decided the fate of the Constitution (Stefoff 35). In the fall of 1788,
Monroe ran for Congress, but his friend and foe, James Madison, defeated him. Monroe did not
give up, although he was disappointed about the loss, he later ran for U.S. Senate against an old
friend John Marshall in 1790 and came home with a victory (Stefoff 37). Monroe was divided by
politics. Now there were two political parties, the Federalist

This is usually referred as a red figure style vase. This type of style vase painting started in Athens, Greece. The red figure technique is essentially an inversion of the black figure technique, for now the figures are left the color of the clay and the background is painted black. Details within the contours of the figures are painted with a brush and are consequently more fluid than when incised in the black figure technique. These paintings upon the vessels usually depict some sort of scene from mythological life. Most of these Greek vessels served as more than drinking vessels but as prizes, ways to illustrate stories and items used to place in tombs. Today, people may use Starbucks cups, as a to go cup, conveniently for our society s busy lives. The Starbucks cup is shaped like an open cylindrical container with a flat bottom and without handles. Starbucks provides lids for the paper and plastic cups with a hole in it for either sipping or to insert a straw for drinking. However, because they are made from paper and plastic they are easier to dispose of after use. • 6. Lady With An Erine Analysis Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s innovative detail to composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence of a new style of portraiture. In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp demonstrates his knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and historical input. Shell and Sironi presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the identification of the painting. The authors of the article study physical and historical features of the painting to create meaning. Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history, the meaning of the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and aristocratic value. The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young lady known as Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to the side and the line of her eyes follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The positioning of her head and eyes create a mysterious atmosphere around her. She seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from the beholder. Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the opposite direction. The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the beholder but her her gaze indicates no interest. The distance between the beholder and her indicates that one can only admire her from afar. The ermine sits gracefully in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts away. The ermine tilts its head to his right, opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads reflects the dynamics and movement of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but rather lively. Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the portrait look realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia s skin against the dark background. The light brightens the entire left side of Cecilia and the ermine, meanwhile creating shadows on the right side of her body. The shadows, however, are soft like reflected light. The reflected light has intensity on the bright parts of her body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ban Zhao s Lessons For A Woman Though authored possibly centuries apart, the Confucian Analects and court historian Ban Zhao s Lessons for a Woman have far more similarities than they do differences. The reason for this complementarity is that Ban Zhao s writings are intentionally constructed to mirror the teachings of the Analects with a focus on the roles of women in society rather than those of men. She very specifically focuses on relationships between men and women, thus between the two texts a well rounded picture of the proper marriage relationship in ancient Chinese culture can be formed. The example given to illustrate this perspective in Practices of Looking is a painting from Mark Tansey, called The Innocent Eye Test. The mother uses her hand flippers to dig a circular hole 40 to 50 centimeters deep. When the nest is dug, she starts filling it with soft shelled eggs until she has placed around 50 to 350 eggs. Some only lay 250 eggs depending on the species. After she fills the hole with eggs she fills it with sand and makes sure it has a smooth surface. She then camouflages the nest with grass so it s harder for predators to find. It takes her about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole process. The mother then returns to the ocean while the eggs are untended. The turtle gender depends on the temperature of the sand. Lighter sands make higher temperature so that decreases incubation which makes more female turtles. It is warmer in the middle of the nest so those sea turtles will most likely be females. Incubation takes about 50 to 60 days. The eggs hatch together over a short amount of time. The hatchlings tear the egg apart with their caruncle and an egg tooth. They then dig through the sand. All but one of the sea turtles will hatch at night which is the Kemp sea turtle. It happens because they are most endangered. Sea turtles that hatch during the day are more likely to be seen by predators. When they reach the surface of the nest they go straight to the sea. The smaller the hatchling is the less likely it will survive. This happens because smaller sea turtles are slower than bigger sea turtles ( Life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Main Assumptions Of Family Social Exchange Theory Family Social Exchange theory is the idea that social change and stability represent a process of cost and benefit between the two parties or individuals: how much effort is put into the relationship versus how much effort our companion is contributing. This theory proposes that in order to understand one another and the choices made by them, we must understand what that individuals finds to be motivating or rewarding. Main Assumptions As there are many assumptions on social exchange, one of the assumptions to know is that people are motivated by self interest. Meaning that we seek things or relationships that are beneficial to ourselves. Like weighing the cost and rewards of a relationship or product that is bought for a purpose. Thus, we, as human being finds more pleasurable to engage in a relationship or interactions that will be more beneficial and rewarding, while avoiding the least cost or punishment. When people choose to help others, they do so because of personal gain they expect to obtain from doing so. An example could be that someone might feel that their job takes advantage of them and therefore, that person decides to quit the job and look for another job if they think that they could get a better job for the same about of effort. An example of this explanations is that my co worker, who worked with me at Taco Bell decides to quit her job at Taco Bell because she felt that there was just too much work and the customers are mean. These were first discovered in 1993 Cherhill, England, in which many of the plants of the formation were coated with an iron glaze. (Talbott) Photomicrographs provided by the BLT Research Team closely show such evidence of these iron spheres. Using these abnormalities, Nancy Talbott of The BLT Research Team conducted a study with M.I.T. Undergraduates assigning them to create a crop circle hoax that fit all three parameters. • 13. The Buddha And Its Effect On Life Dukkha is a Pali word, which in basic or ordinary terms may be translated to meaning suffering, dissatisfaction, pain, sorrow or misery. However, as the first of the four noble truths, which symbolizes the Buddha s take on life, it has additional deeper, philosophical meanings such as: imperfection, impermanence, emptiness, and insubstantiality (What the Buddha taught, 17). Since Buddhism represents a more realistic and objective take on life, the term suffering, does not necessarily indicate a pessimistic or depressing view of life. Since it s impossible to solve the model analytically due to the irregular geometry of the cross section, the temperature distribution will be found using ANSYS Mechanical to model the problem and solve using the finite element method. The report will go through creating the beam using some pre set values and calculating the rest using a student s ID number and applying specific boundary conditions. The temperature distribution will be investigated by changing the boundary conditions of the front surface and inside of the pipe to being fully insulated and later, the heat transfer coefficient will be changed from 60 to 10W/m2 with the results being recorded between changes. The differences between each changes on the model will be discussed in the results/discussion section. A Tale Of Commodities And Relevance A Tale of Commodities and Relevance In Margaret Atwood s book, The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the book often find themselves at the mercy of men and being used for the purpose of fulfilling man s needs. They are more seen as property, than as humans themselves. The women are systemically ranked for amount of use in the household and women who can give birth are often high ranked, but not given much freedom. Over they do everything and are allowed nothing. The woman are not allowed to read, have their own money, or to normal jobs outside of being maids or cooks. The woman are often ranked in terms of colors with wives wearing blue, handmaids wear red, Maratha s wearing green and Ecowives wearing stripes. The women are often seen as commodities and only relevant to the needs of man. The Ceremony is the act in which the Commander, his wife(Serena Joy), and the Handmaid(Offred) attempt to make a baby. While the women are both needed to be present, nether are required to enjoy the act or to orgasm, the man s orgasm is the only important part of the act, seeing as he need s to orgasm to get Offred pregnant. When in turn the act for all three of them is simply a duty to be done. Offred see s the act as her duty, because she is a Handmaid and that is her single goal: To get pregnant, but she does recognize it is a goal and duty for the Commander also, This is not recreation, even for the Commander. Summary Of The Episode Remains To Be Seen Goffman (1963) refers to stigma as being a disorder that an individual carries, it is a mark of shame in which something unusual or bad about the person is exposed. When people express an impression to the manner they want to present their self, they play a virtual identity to avoid exposing their actual identity because it might be stigmatized. Goffman (1963) also mentions when people are stigmatized they worry about how others see them, which is the similar to how we feel when performing a certain role to keep what we consider normal people from finding out the truth about our shame a characteristic of what we think is abnormal/weird to other people. Glacalone Rosenfeld (1989) compare social situations to interviews, an approach where an individual selects the perception and behavior to reflect their good qualities to the person they are performing for. Despite trying to give a reasonable impersonation of one self, people run the risk of being discreditable, which is a stigma that is not readily perceivable to others. Allan (2014) also discusses that some people are already discredited, when normal people are readily aware about a person s stigma as they try to pretend that they do not notice, or the person who is already stigmatized plays it off to show or perceive their shame... While these laws were supposed to create separate yet equal conditions, they unfortunately condemned African Americans to inferior facilities and heinous treatment. The newly freed people of the South found themselves unemployed, drowning in poverty, unable to pay rent, and unable to keep food on the table for their families. This was not what the African Americans had in mind when they were told that they would be held separate yet equal in society, and many of them wanted to voice their opinions about the false hope of equality instilled in their minds. Renzo Piano is a well known architect, best known for his phantasmagoric architectural masterpiece, the Shard in London that constitutes a major landmark in О± big city like London. Designed in 2000, it is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, while being for a while Europe s tallest tower. It lost its title to the Mercury City Tower in Moscow in 2012 which is Europe s tallest building. As Renzo Piano said I don t believe it is possible to build a tall building in London by extruding the same shape from bottom to top. It would be too small at the bottom and too big at the top. Likewise, symbols are dangerous. Often tall buildings are aggressive and arrogant symbols of power and ego, selfish and hermetic. The tower is designed to be ... Southwark Council was an important supporter of the skyscraper, which had been administered planning permission at the end of March 2002. Nevertheless, the works for the Shard almost ceased because of the fall of the Twin World Trade Towers, in New York. According to Mr. Sellar the Shard will have refuges built into its core . Furthermore, when plans for the Shard of Glass were first considered, environmentalists labeled the Shard as a spike through the heart of the heritage of London. Oppositions arose after the plans for the Shard passed through the Council and conservation groups expressed their concerns about the changing skyline of London and that the skyscraper would shadow over the Cathedral of St. Paul, the Tower of London. Renzo Piano stated that St. Paul Cathedral is an extraordinary monument and an intrinsic part of London s heritage. I believe that the new tower will not disturb its stateliness. They are breathing the same air, sharing the same atmosphere; they are nurtured at the same source. . It should be mentioned that St Paul s Cathedral, which for hundreds of year was the tallest structure, and even today is protected by laws which protect the sight lines to the cathedral, is a monument to the glory of God, symbol of hope, strength and resilience of the city of London. • 42. Life Is Worth Living Essay Would You Plug In? What kind of life is worth living? Robert Nozick poses the question of whether it is worth to live life the way it was planned for you or by having the power to pick and choose the experiences you go through by plugging into the experience machine. Before deciding to go into the machine, a person must think about what kind of life is worth living. A life worth living is a life with as little suffering and hardship as possible, where a person can be completely free to chase their dreams. So many people look for a way to escape the pain that life brings and the experience machine offers a way out. There are two main reasons to plug into the experience machine; a person can escape the hardships of life and society s unrealistic expectations about how to live life. Humans go through many hardships over their lifetime. They experience love, loss, heartbreak, pain, work, happiness, sadness, and many more things. People have to struggle through school to work their whole lives until they die. These aspects of human life are used to mark where in the stages of life a person is. To many, these stages define life and what it stands for, but they are not necessary. A person doesn t have to go through loss to have a complete life. They don t have to struggle to make ends meet because that s what life is supposed to be like. they can sidetrack these moments if desired. A person can have a life filled with happiness and no worry of having to get somewhere in life by plugging into the experience machine. The experience machine has the capability of getting rid of the hard things we go through. Instead of going through heartbreak, a person can bypass that by programming the machine to only let them experience love. Instead of working a grueling job that only pays minimum wage, a person can plug into the experience machine to a life where they don t have to work to survive. They can live a life full of happiness, instead of one filled with sadness and hardships. Society places unrealistic expectations of human life. People are expected to live their life a certain way and when they fall short of that, they are judged. One problem is that many never get close to the expectations, ... Retention Essay Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted study duration would map into superior retention and learningoutcomes. The present paper critically addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional explanatory variables. For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study setups at a stretch could have some equivalents that are difficult to distinguish between while possibly concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naГЇve analysis. In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. • 48. The Good Soldier Analysis Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Maddox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative , but he also prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story. Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever, proceeding to concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (13). That Ford notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly identifying cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies and Leonora s ...
