HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
Props used
• Acoustic guitar- More relaxed music, quite simple, only
1-2 elements in songs-They enjoy proper talent, and
people who can play instruments rather than just sing.
Costumes
• Patterns/red lips- can be quite rock
genred sometimes, and aren't always
about softer, gentler music.
• -Blouse/wavy hair- softer, happy,
relaxed, gentle, friendly. Not gender
specific- not sexist genre, more
respectful
• Face/leg paint shows that the
audience
don’t usually conform to what’s
acceptable in society- do what
makes them happy
Location
Forest- This shows they enjoy the outdoors,
has connotations of being quite relaxed,
happy, and chilled out.
Brick wall- This shows they can also get
rougher and have a
tougher personality sometimes
Lighting
• Natural lighting- quite relaxed, laid
back, not too planned.-Like nature
• Artificial lighting- not too harsh- softer people, friendly,
approachable, not scary or intimidating
Language use
• Not too posh and no jargon like in classical
• Not extremely laid back- no slang like in pop
• Anyone can read and understand it, so it's inclusive
• Inclusive audience- friendly, nice, genuine, equals.
Camera angle
• Mid-shot- equal, not superior/inferior to anyone,
especially the music artists, like to feel valued/important
• High-angled shot- Look down on each other.
• Over-the-shoulder- with friends, friendly, includes people
• Long-shot- Able to see guitar- Need proof of musical
talent, good music has high importance to the
audience.
Body language/Model position• Main model:
Leaning forwards and looking down camera lense- coming
towards the audience. Audience like to feel valued and
acknowledged by artist.
Serious face- Shows she takes music seriously and not like a joke
which shows that this is important to the audience linking to how
musical talent is important to the audience.
Leaning on tree/ sat on bench with guitar- casual, laid-back,
friendly, not too posed or vain, looks aren't important but musical
talent is.
• 'Naomi':
Smiling- friendly people- not scary or intimidating, happy.
• 'Festival people':
Sat talking- casual, not too uptight, laid back, relaxed, don't care
cameras are there.
Looking at phone- memories are valued, important.
Attitude portrayed by my product
• Images portray the attitude that the audience are
equals, and laid back and have quite a chilled out
attitude, like hippies, not too stressed out or worried
about life, and are quite happy and friendly.
Language used portrays the audience as friendly as it is
inclusive and portrays music as very important as it is
mainly focused around that topic.
Stereotype of my target audience
• Mainly teenagers/young adults, attend many music events, music has a high
importance to them, very few other things are important (laid back, not stressed "get a
job, hippie.")usually get along quite well with each other, drugs.
• I have conformed to this stereotype.
• A music magazine with a similar genre to my own magazine is NME.
The age of my audience has been targeted as there isn’t too much of a strict or plain and simple
layout, like there would be for an older audience e.g. a classical music magazine, but there is some
sort of layout and it isn’t too messy like it would be for a younger audience e.g. a pop magazine. The
gender of my audience has been targeted as none of the colours used are gender specific meaning
that it can appeal to a wider audience of all genders rather than just one in particular.
