Open Science initiatives like the Open Science Club Parakou in Benin can help improve digital literacy and use of tools in Africa. The club aims to improve students' knowledge of open science concepts, digital skills, and numeric literacy through training workshops and events. Activities of the Open Science Club help participants improve their use of digital resources and tools, discover new tools, facilitate research and publishing, and develop empowerment. Establishing open science clubs in every school is a good way to improve Africa's human resources by enhancing digital skills.

The current program aims to create and enrich 2400 resources for junior secondary and primary subjects by training 36 participants to use educational software and having them author content from February to December 2019, with progress monitored weekly and monthly reviews of the authored content.

Collaboration Webs & Mobile Tools

The evaluation of the Pathways to Learning project provides a great touchstone for reflecting on the kinds of agile, open collaboration that can build international capacity for OER projects and the communities that sustain them.

- 1. How can Open Science improve the level of digital use in Africa ? The aim of this presentation is to show how initiatives relatives to Open Science/Open Access (and particularly the Open Science Club Parakou) can help african people to improve their litteracy , their access and their use of digital tools (as open web, collaborative tools, etc…) Kumasi 13 – 15 April 2018 TOKO Kafid HECM Parakou
- 2. OPEN SCIENCE CLUB PARAKOU Created in Jun 2016 at University of Parakou in Benin, the OSC- Parakou is a club that aims to improve the general knowledge of students about digital use, open science concepts and numeric literacy. It focuses its activities on training, workshops, events to reach this goal.
- 3. Why an open science club in a university ? • The urgent need to have an open science movement in our universities • This kind of initiative encourage students to be involved in extra school activities, and then, is developing student and youth empowerment • It’s urgent for us students, to work more in team, and being motivated to undertake open research project, and to be more transdisciplinary
- 4. What we’re actually doing ? • Conference – debate • Opencon local hosts (OpenCon 2017 Parakou) • Workshops and training on: • Collaborative work tools( google docs, sheet, form etc..) • Design website with WordPress • Chatbot building and Facebook page management • Design of free software for university management in Africa
- 5. What participants of our activities get? • Open Science Club activities help participants to: • Improve every day their level in use of numerical resources or tools • to discover new numerical tools and resources • make easy their research work and papers publications • Develop empowerment
- 6. • Creation of OS club in every school is a good way to improve Africa human resource by improving people digital skills • Open science movement help to share knowledge and learn so much from someone else
