Scrum Transformation - 1 year after - our story - Agile by Example 2017pproductivity
15 minutes, three presenters, one story - 1 year of Agile transformation within Fru.pl told by Paweł Gawliczek (CTO) and Marta Borkowska-Bierć (People aspects) and Piotr Nabielec (Produktywni.pl, process aspects).
This presentation took place during Agile by Example 2017 conference in Warsaw.
Join Bob Mosher and Conrad Gottfredson as they discuss Agile development in this month's webinar!
Software development is shifting to Agile development practices due to the speed of change within organizations, and therefore creating the demand for such shifts. These same compelling reasons are pushing learning groups to challenge their current methodologies and become more adaptive. This can’t be accomplished without a Performance Support strategy, methodology, and technology.
Our charge is not only to keep up with Agile software development, but to keep up with the adaptive performance requirements of organizations to be “Agile": to grow, change, and innovate at or above the speed of their markets – in other words, the need to: “learn at the speed of change.”
Remaining Agile in a fast growing start-up by Alexander Bosma and Muhammad No...Agile ME
Alef Education is a fast growing start-up established only in 2017? and we are now delivering our blended learning platform to over 55K students in over 150 schools in the UAE and a few in the USA.
Starting small, with a handful of developers, working Agile was easy peasy. Nowadays, with over 70 developers in 13 teams things got a lot more complex and retaining agility a constant challenge. In this presentation, we will cover a few of the issues that we faced and how we dealt with it. We will cover the introduction of DevOps, applying scaling techniques, dynamic re-teaming, organize around microservices and the introduction of CoP's.
Don't expect a huge success story, however... we are still learning and experimenting and we certainly don't have all the answers yet (or ever will). But we know that what we have experienced is of value for many companies and we are not afraid to share our mistakes as well for the sake of learning.

Making agile work in a waterfall driven world.sc0ttruss
When two tectonic plates meet there will always be friction, so how do we address this continental divide and make work seamless?
Standing up an Agile team is hard. Not just in the sense of delivering value to the business, but in the sense of challenging existing pre-conceptions. Moreover most large enterprises have processes focused on the Waterfall methodology.
Changing the entire org structure to facilitate one agile team, would not make sense, but if agile is one of the “ways of the future”, then there has to be a path for the two to co-exist. This path should not involve extensive conflict internally, or create two warring factions. This is all about how to utilise existing structures and introduce change, more around the zombie apocalypse model and less around ITIL. This is about what works in the real world, how real people have implemented this interface, how it is working out, and what issues have been
addressed in two real world use cases. Finally a recap on actual
steps to help implement this in your own organisation.
This presentation was presented in Unicom World Business Summit Conference 2015. It talks about using Lean Startup method for situation where both the problem and solution is not clear. The One-Shot Product by Microsoft Product LeaderProduct School
Main takeaways:
- Minimize your unknowns: Test your hypotheses early, trust the experts, and know when to innovate and when to play it safe
- You’re only as good as your worst test case: Find creative ways to test and validate every part of your product
- Have a fallback plan for your fallback plan: Plan for failure and have a backup plan that works
Fifty shades of fail - redefining success and failure from a lean perspectiveFrancesco Degrassi
Innovation is necessarily risky, being based on the concept of novelty; we are either trying a new idea, an existing idea in a new market, or maybe trying to create a new market altogether.
Lean and agile principles help us deal with risks and unknowns, by focusing on validated learning, deferring decisions, responding to change, but even when we fail to apply them, we might sometimes achieve some level of “success” nonetheless.
But what does “success” mean?
Can we really appreciate the importance of an exploratory approach, of validating ideas as we go, without defining what success (and hence failure) does looks like?
Going from a personal experience developing an innovative service for a large european company, where we failed to apply lean and agile principles, I explore the idea of success and how a project can be completed on time, on scope and on budget and win the hearts of customers, and still be a (bad) failure when we consider what could have been.

Aligning Product Strategy with Customer Feature RequestsProductPlan
We’ve all been on customer calls where we’re asked for a feature that just does not align with our product strategy. It’s not a problem if one request is an outlier, but how should you handle recurring requests from your customers that do not align with your product strategy? In this webinar, product management veterans share real examples of feature requests that did not naturally fit with the company’s vision.
Vivek Prahlad shares his experiences on the differences and similarities between building software in the Product and Project contexts. At ThoughtWorks, he has spent approximately half of his career on the product side, and the other half on the consulting side. While the underlying principles are similar, there are often significant differences in terms of approaches that work for products and projects. Some of the differences we'll explore include: product vs. project inception, engineering considerations, testing approaches and strategies, course corrections, and more.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

6. Really?
One possible set of agility criteria:
1.
End users are a constant part of the development process
2.
The development team has power to make decisions
3.
Requirements strech, the schedule/budget doesn't
4.
The requirements are described on top level, lightly and visually
5.
6.
The development work is done in small increments that can be
developed further
Focus on regular delivery of working product parts
7.
Finishing each requirement before moving to next one
8.
80/20 rule: focus on search of 20 % solutions that can fulfill 80 % of the need

18. Solutions for pain points are simple
Projects that struggle with their agility can be made better by:
Waking up the Product Owner
Proritize, bridge development team with users and
stakeholders
Trusting the developers
Build the team’s technology vision ownership
Getting method help
Retros led by a pro scrum master, agile coaching for key
roles
Freshening up the Definiton of Done
The quality code needs to be agreed on and revisited
Deploying more often
If it’s hard, do it more
Adding artefact transparency for the Scrum team
Vision documents, release plans, budgets...
19. Afterword: Before starting a new
project, make sure agile is the way to
1. How known is the concrete project outcome?
go.
a) Blurry b) A bit unstructured c) Quite clear
2.
How code-oriented is the project?
a) It's all about new code
b) We are using a product/framework but customizing it
c) We are taking an out-of-package product and making it work for us, content
is the king
3.
Can the project be resourced with a full-time product owner?
a) No probs, we want to invest in this one
b) It will be a bit painful c) No way
4.
Are we ready to prioritize between requirements?
a) Of course b) Not so sure about everybody c) Come again?
20. The results for the agility test
3 points for each a-answer, 2 points for a
b, 1 points for each c
• 10-12 points: Clearly there is a case for an agile project. Still, remember to
plan and resource it well and ensure that main stakeholders share the agile
ideas.
• 7-9 points: Twilight zone. Do you have enough resources and buy-in for
agile? If you go for it, how about coaching or courses?
• 4-6 points: No question, your case is a clear one. Just take the vendor's
process as it is, launch the project and stay sharp.
